We happened to visit @chunkytown.au where we were super happy to taste some deliciousness and we ended up tasting most of it.
.
We tried:-
- different flavours of Korean Hot Dog
- with amazing thick shakes
- Korean balls with ice cream for dessert
.
.
When you are in the city, do try and drop by @chunkytown.au and grab some delicious bites.
.
And we tell you that you will definitely love it!! It is pocket friendly and a quick and easy grab and go street food.
No need to fly to Korea to have this high caloried snack anymore. Had me the squid ink mozarella hotdog, waffle fries and a drink via groupon but they werent very generous with the waffle fries. It was very good. Happy to eat here again.
It’s exactly what you expect, in a good way. I unflatteringly chomped my way through this massive stick of crunchy-crispy potato, fairly neutral sausage (I wouldn’t have minded more flavour) and cheddar cheese that I couldn’t taste at all (should’ve gotten mozzarella). Definitely, definitely get sugar coating. Either a light meal or a big snack, though either way this will leave you feeling quite heavy.
4.0 Very Good
I love street food and as I didn’t really get to try this last time I was in Korea, I feel blessed gems like this exist.
I got their potato, mozzarella and sausage chunky which was made to order and freshly deep fried. Once it pops out you’ve got a range of sauces to coat it in, I got what was recommended, a dusting of sugar and a combination of tomato sauce and mild mustard (it said honey mustard on the instructions). It was crusty and not overly oily, the first bite on top came with some stretchy mozzarella cheese and then you hit the standard Frankfurt sausage. The batter was a bit underdone and gave it a nice doughy texture, I really enjoyed it.
On the side I got some of their chunky chips (waffle fries), crispy and lightly dusted in some sort of paprika seasoning. Delicious.
I’m delighted that they’ve also opened up a newer and even larger shop in QV as well as having their sights in Melbourne Central. What that means is that a late night snack is always around the corner!
Finally got to try Chunky Town, and it seriously exceeded my expectations. I had the original Sausage Chunky - it was super crispy on the outside, and the batter was surprisingly very light and fluffy! I love how customisable it is with all the different types of sauces, and I’d definitely recommend trying it with sugar too! I also tried their Chunky Balls (Oreo flavour) which was served with a light and refreshing vanilla soft serve. The balls themselves were very light and chewy, almost a little bit like mochi. I had a Lychee Fruit Tea to wash it all down which was delightful. Definitely recommend checking them out! Plus, they’re opening a new store in QV soon!

chunky town is located right in front of flinders street station. Contrary to common perception, they are not hotdogs but rather sausage sticks!
I went for the maggi, cheddar and cheese sausage stick while my partner went for the potato one. You can also add as much sauce as you want to elevate your snack experience. Don’t think one should sprinkle sugar on the stick though. I enjoyed the crunchy noodle exterior (reminded me of a childhood snack called Mamee), but the sausage itself was quite standard. Slathering it with sauces also means that the meal could get messy. Wished there was a few seating spaces for us to enjoy the meal too - we had to eat while walking around town. Otherwise, it’s an ideal snack for train commuters!

So good! Love the combo of cheese and the sausage! Good selection from the menu and definitely reminds me of the fried cheese sausage hotdogs we had in Seoul.
The Korean street corndog experience comes to Melbourne.
They’re fried fresh, so be prepared to wait around 5-7 mins.
Sausage Chunky – the batter is crisp and you have the option of adding sauces or a sprinkle of sugar (it’s a Korean thing apparently). The sausage itself has a light flavour.
Squid Ink & Mozarella – I don’t get the seafoody taste from the squid ink but the colour is definitely there. The mozzarella is nice and stretchy.
Chunky Town gives this end of the CBD an alternative snack option, especially during those late nights.
My god these were such yummy corn dogs! Oooey gooey with cheese in the middle with your average hot dog centre. There’s a good range of sauces that you can eat with the corn dogs. There is no seating area which is a shame, but definitely can eat it on the go for a quick snack.
This place reminds me of Korea so much so was excited to try. I personally haven’t had it with sugar although i know its a Korean thing lol need to try that next time! But I love the potato with extra cheese and hotdog version. You can’t go wrong. I found it a little filling though so recommend sharing otherwise it can get a little sickening. Otherwise perfect for a quick snack!
Whoever thought to put a hotdog and cheese on a stick and deep fry it is a genius. These calorific delights at Chunky Town are so naughty, but so good. Not your standard corn dog, pluto pup or dagwood dog; these are battered hot dogs on steroids. With several different crunchy coatings to choose from, and tasty or mozzarella cheese; I knew these would be fantastic.
A small booth on a very busy thoroughfare in the cbd, Funky Town had quite the line up when we arrived. However, we were served quickly and it was probably a ten minute wait. The fact that it was made in front of us made it worth the short wait. We chose four of these Korean style dogs... mozzarella, tasty cheese, crunchy noodle, and crunchy potato. We also had a serve of waffle fries and an iced tea. The serves were extremely generous, and easily fed four of us.
There is a complementary sauce bar, so you can add whatever toppings you like. The batter was delicious and crispy, and the other textures of the noodles and potato were really interesting. The cheese was perfectly melted and gooey, and we enjoyed these hot dogs so much. Thr waffle fries were crunchy and perfectly seasoned, and the iced tea was refreshing and not too sweet. Overall, this was a fun lunch and something a little different. Like a day at the Melbourne show without the rides and showbags, Chunky Town will have you nostalgic for the good old battered sausage on a stick.
Big fan of cheese, and now an even bigger fan of these cheese corn dogs! We ordered the Sausage, Potato & Cheese, and Sausage & Cheddar Cheese. These made for the perfect snack! Not only were they so delicious, but they were a lot of fun to eat! Love trying to get the most epic cheese pull. I finished mine and I really wanted to go back for more 🤤
❤️ sausage mozzarella and potato ($7.50)
👍 great size and value for money; made fresh; quick service and waiting time (5 minutes); fantastic sauce selection
👎 limited hotdog selection (they were just slight variations of each other); sauce bottles needs to be refilled (took a while to get the sauce out and it made a big mess)
🕓 not busy at 8pm Friday night
❗️they will ask if you would like to add some sugar; I didn’t know about this so I said no, but I have heard that it is a popular choice to say ‘yes’
We had high expectations before we came here. These battered corn dogs looked so great in pics so we had to grab them. It took a while to make them because there were a few people waiting. The first bite, it was very crunchy and oozing with cheese. If only the hot dog inside is bigger, it would be a lot yummier!
Wish I could rate them more than 5 stars.
Ordered the $14 meal combo, includes a sausage n Mozzarella chunky hotdog, a waffle fries, and bubble tea, sooo full!!!
Love the stretchy cheese hotdog. SO MUCH CHEESE!!!! Also love the sauce station, seven types of sauce, SEVEN!!!
Super funny and friendly staffs too! Will come back soon!
Had the mozzarella and squid ink and sausage mozzarella & potato chunky corndog! Personally not a fan of heavy fried food but this was an exception! Also I'm a fan of their bubble tea which IS on the sweet side but I love it like that! It's a great 'on-the-go' snack to pick up.
Amazing place for a quick snack! 😛 Had to go with the combo where you get any stick & drink for $10! 🤑 We ordered the sausage, mozerella and potato chunky and I absolutely adored that crisp batter! I loved the sauce options, you can really go crazy with your combinations! 😍 Their chipotle tomato is crazy good! 🔥
Ze best!!!! I love how accommodating the staff are. And also, Fast service! Will be back soon! And its affordable too! Its just plain awesome! More power!!!! Cheers xxx
I love street food and food on sticks in all its forms, so was excited to try ChunkyTown, bringing cheesy hotdogs and bubble tea to Melbourne!
We tried a variety of hotdogs and my favourites (in order) were the crispy noodles, sausage and mozzarella and squid ink. The potato was just a bit too carby/doughy for me. The texture is really cool with the super crunchy outside and almost elastic-like cheese inside. The sausage is quite yum as well.
I think they are well priced given that they are quite large and filling, and the combo deals are really good value. A good snack option and crowd pleaser, especially for kids!
Yassss to cheesy!!! 🧀
If you like cheese as much as I do than this is a MUST try!
I tried the sausage mozzarella and potato chunky which was awesome 👌
Will definitely be back to try more of the range 🌟🌟
DO: The sausage duh.
DON'T: Forget their bubble tea special.
TIP: The sauces were all pretty good but my fave was actually the sugar. Made it taste pretty alright. Great late night snack
Looking for that deep fried cheesy delight! This is that place! Everything about these are perfect, crunchy and full of delicious cheese! It’s located on the busy street of Elizabeth St near Flinders st! Make sure you check them out!
An awesome new spot for a quick Korean-style hot dog on the go! It’s super close to Flinders Street Station! 🌭
I tried their sausage, mozzarella & potato hotdog and their sausage & cheddar hotdog and the passionfruit & strawberry pearl tea. The hotdogs were really crispy and were delicious – they also weren’t as oily as I was expecting for a deep fried food. The teas were delicious and not overly sweet.🙌🏼
It was also great to see them prepare the food, they were freshly battered and cooked fresh to order. The staff were really helpful and friendly and they were more than patient while we tried to decide what we wanted!!😊😊
I always pass by this shop whenever I go back home from Flinders station.. I have previously had a similar type of hot dog in japan.. These kind of snacks are quite popular in Japan & korea.. I ordered the combo set which gets you any hot dog with any drinks for $10.. so I went for sausage mozzarella & potato chunky with roasted corn tea.. when it’s ready staff offered to put some sugar on the hotdog.. the sugar coating did surprised me in a good way.. the sweet & saltiness was interesting.. the batter was good and the sausage inside also very delicious..
I went on a rainy cold day & wanted a hot or warm drink but they do not have any hot drinks on menu.. the staff there were nice & heated up my drink too so it was warm and without any sugar.. will definitely recommend this place..
A small korean stall offered deep fried hotdogs.
Ordered a sausage, mozzarella and potato chunky. Freshly made and crispy batter. Inside is a battered sausage with strechy mozzarella cheese. The potato bits are crisp.
This place is absolutely INCREDIBLE!!! It's one of those places that can really hit the spot for your inner sausage, cheese and fried goodness cravings! I had the Cheddar cheese sausage noodle chunky and a citron passionfruit tea with pearls and it was to die for! The tea and hotdog combo was an awesome $10 and totally worth it! Customer service was great and on the ball. The only downside was that there was no seating place. I would absolutely come back!
These guys are insane! Located in Elizabeth Street, Chunky Town Australia offers hot dogs and milk tea!
We had the Sausage Mozzarella & Potato Chunky, Sausage & Cheddar Chunky and the Sausage Cheddar and Noodle Chunky. We had the Matcha Latte and the Lychee Fruit Tea. Our favourite was definitely the Potato Chunky, it was so so yum! It was hard to resist not buying another! Both drinks were great, they went extremely well with the sausages!
Highly recommend coming here, although there is no seating area, it’s definitely a great snack for on-the-go!
“Won’t you take me to CHUNKY TOWN!!” @chunkytown.au is here in Melbourne serving up flavoursome Korean style Chunky Hotdogs and traditional fruit and milk teas 👌we definitely liked the chunky potato and mozzarella cheese covered option they also provide sauce to top it off. Milk tea was a nice addition except they didn’t have pearls. Great snack while on the move conveniently located next to flinders street station. We will definitely be back 😋🙌😍

Hot dog...Gangnam style!
Talk about crispy deliciousness, South Korean cuisine seems to have nailed it. The latest snack addiction in Melbourne comes from the small town of Gangnam; the Chunky Town AU hot dog on a stick with loads of melted cheese and a crispy crunchy multi grain batter deep fried to perfection. Drizzle with your favourite sauce (or sauces) to complete the deliciousness.
Seven different varieties available, featured here is the Sausage, Mozzarella and Potato chunky. Situated on Elizabeth Street, so a must experience when you are out and about in the city.
😱Lizzie’s first impression: having tried the real deal in Korea, I was so excited when Chunky Town came about.
🍩Lizzie enjoyed: I really enjoyed the snag with the potatoes - it tasted even better with all the hot sauce and mayo on top! They were freshly made which was a plus as I saw them cover the hotdog in he batter. Also love that they have yummy refreshing drinks - the strawberry crush is absolutely amazing and so is the passion fruit tea with pearls.
🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: each to their own but I heard it’s recommended for these hot dogs to be sprinkled with sugar, but I was indifferent to be honest!
🥇Lizzie rates overall: a great spot for a quick snack - it’s definitely on the heavy side but once in a while you’ll just have to treat yourself!
An awesome new spot to get your Korean-style hot dog fill in the city - located opposite flinders station!
I tried their:
sausage & cheddar
sausage, mozarella & potato
sausage, cheddar & noodles
sausage, mozarella & squid ink
I love that they wrap the sausage with the cheese and batter on the spot after you order. The batter had a light batter which did not taste oily. The chipotle ketchup went so well with each k-dog! Don’t be shy to put lots of sauce, it helps to keep if from feeling to rich.
Pro tip: get it with sugar!
I had a couple of their signature purr & fruit teas with an added topping of their jelly. It is a bit on the sweeter side - try asking them if they can make it less sweet! The roasted corn tea sounds really good - will have to try that next time!
If you’ve already been to Chunkytown you will know what to expect, a cheap eat and a deep-fried treat and maybe a bubble tea to wash it down. These tasty dogs will remind you of Moomba and have you strolling down Elizabeth street with a bounce in your step singing ‘won’t you take me to, Chunkytown’.
These battered hot dogs are soooooo delicious !!
When I took a bite it was filled with the most delicious mozzarella and sausage 🙌🏼 plus the actual batter itself was so yummy especially with the aoili sauce.
these are only around $6 for one and they have a super good deal at the moment where milk teas are only $2. I had the matcha latte and it had the best matcha flavour 🙌🏼
Will defs get another one next time I’m in the city
A new place for k-hotdog in town. (3.8)
I am no fan of hotdog, but i happen to have a voucher so i got myself a cheesedog with mozarella. The staff was really nice and it took a reasonable time to cook. There were no seats however, so it's take out only.
I really like the dough, it's chewy and stringy and crispy on the outside! The cheese melted really well though it was a bit weird to have in only on top and not together with the sausage.
Had ther passion fruit greentea as well and it was good, well balanced flavor.
Overall a pretty great snack joint to check out which could definitely have improvements!
( follow for more!✨)
xx,joelle.
Tried this place just for fun and it was worth it! Had the $10 deal and the hot dog was delicious with the addition of sugar and the lychee green tea could not get enough of! Going back to try the noodle topping
Won't you take me to.... Chunky Town!
More Korean street food is infiltrating Melbourne's food scene. Take a hot dog, batter it, fill it with cheese, crumb it in ramen noodles, deep fry it, dust sugar on it and put whatever sauce you want on it. That's the basic gist of Chunky Town. If you don't want ramen noodles, you can have it with potato chunks, or go naked.
Price point - it's fair. The bubble tea prices seem to be very competitively priced which would offset any feelings you may have for the potato hot dog. Service was friendly, but slow, but it is early days so teething problems are inevitable.
Would I have it again? I'm not sure, it was a lot of fun though - and I'm keen to try the bubble teas. If you're the kind of person that likes trying different things - then take yourself to Chunky Town.
4 stars with an asterisk.
Korean street food is fantastic. I shared some hot dogs with sausage and mozzarella, and a vegetarian mozzarella hot dog. They were great, crispy, crunchy hot doggies and they were filling!!
The waffle fries were crunchy and crispy too and they disappeared in seconds haha.
The spicy rice cakes (Tteokbokki) were full of chilli and they are always a treat.
My matcha milkshake was the best, freezing cold milk and a great matcha flavour.
When I was there this place was packed which is hardly surprising. Located on the ground floor of the QV Building off Swanston St its easy to find.
Oh, and did you know you can buy take away well, frozen (hot) doggies to eat at home? They are available in food retail shops and they are definitely a treat. Cook 'em in a microwave, your oven or an air fryer! Too easy.
I'm getting more for sure. Thanks for the invite.
A different twist on a classic. If you like Dagwood dogs when you go to carnivals l, you'll love Chunky Town.
The one covered in potatoes is kind of like a hash brown casing, delicious!
The oil was slightly fishy so if you're not a fan of fish, avoid. Otherwise really good!
I get food from chunky town often, and I enjoy it! It’s a very good comfort food and is very fillinf. I enjoy getting mine with peri peri sauce and sugar. I have tried the potato one and the one with the crushed noodles on the exterior, and I really enjoy them. I do wish that the cheese was more consistent and went down the entire corndog, but the way it is made is understandable why it isn’t like that.
have you guys tried this famous korean hot dog on a stick? 🌭

A good place for Korean corndogs. They are yummy and made fresh per order. My favourites are sausage cheese potatoes and the squid ink. Price wise is good, but the service is always relatively slow.
Chunky Town is a Korean street food stall in the heart of QV shopping centre.
They sell a range of hot dogs on a stick, as well as fried chicken, fried doughtnuts and Korean soft drinks.
They have over 500 stores in Korean, but this is their first Melbourne location.
I tried the sausage chunky for $5.50.
The dough was warm and chewy on inside, and crispy on the outside. With a juicy sausage and generous slathering of both mustard and tomato sauce, this was a great snack.
If you like hot dogs, I’d recommending giving Chunky Town a go.
Friendly service. They could have more staff than 2 people on for a Saturday night though, was a bit of a wait.
The food was alright, but did seem to lack flavour honestly. All in all, it was alright to try.
