We happened to visit @chunkytown.au where we were super happy to taste some deliciousness and we ended up tasting most of it.
.
We tried:-
- different flavours of Korean Hot Dog
- with amazing thick shakes
- Korean balls with ice cream for dessert
.
.
When you are in the city, do try and drop by @chunkytown.au and grab some delicious bites.
.
And we tell you that you will definitely love it!! It is pocket friendly and a quick and easy grab and go street food.

No need to fly to Korea to have this high caloried snack anymore. Had me the squid ink mozarella hotdog, waffle fries and a drink via groupon but they werent very generous with the waffle fries. It was very good. Happy to eat here again.

It’s exactly what you expect, in a good way. I unflatteringly chomped my way through this massive stick of crunchy-crispy potato, fairly neutral sausage (I wouldn’t have minded more flavour) and cheddar cheese that I couldn’t taste at all (should’ve gotten mozzarella). Definitely, definitely get sugar coating. Either a light meal or a big snack, though either way this will leave you feeling quite heavy.

4.0 Very Good

I love street food and as I didn’t really get to try this last time I was in Korea, I feel blessed gems like this exist.

I got their potato, mozzarella and sausage chunky which was made to order and freshly deep fried. Once it pops out you’ve got a range of sauces to coat it in, I got what was recommended, a dusting of sugar and a combination of tomato sauce and mild mustard (it said honey mustard on the instructions). It was crusty and not overly oily, the first bite on top came with some stretchy mozzarella cheese and then you hit the standard Frankfurt sausage. The batter was a bit underdone and gave it a nice doughy texture, I really enjoyed it.

On the side I got some of their chunky chips (waffle fries), crispy and lightly dusted in some sort of paprika seasoning. Delicious.

I’m delighted that they’ve also opened up a newer and even larger shop in QV as well as having their sights in Melbourne Central. What that means is that a late night snack is always around the corner!

Finally got to try Chunky Town, and it seriously exceeded my expectations. I had the original Sausage Chunky - it was super crispy on the outside, and the batter was surprisingly very light and fluffy! I love how customisable it is with all the different types of sauces, and I’d definitely recommend trying it with sugar too! I also tried their Chunky Balls (Oreo flavour) which was served with a light and refreshing vanilla soft serve. The balls themselves were very light and chewy, almost a little bit like mochi. I had a Lychee Fruit Tea to wash it all down which was delightful. Definitely recommend checking them out! Plus, they’re opening a new store in QV soon!

chunky town is located right in front of flinders street station. Contrary to common perception, they are not hotdogs but rather sausage sticks!

I went for the maggi, cheddar and cheese sausage stick while my partner went for the potato one. You can also add as much sauce as you want to elevate your snack experience. Don’t think one should sprinkle sugar on the stick though. I enjoyed the crunchy noodle exterior (reminded me of a childhood snack called Mamee), but the sausage itself was quite standard. Slathering it with sauces also means that the meal could get messy. Wished there was a few seating spaces for us to enjoy the meal too - we had to eat while walking around town. Otherwise, it’s an ideal snack for train commuters!

So good! Love the combo of cheese and the sausage! Good selection from the menu and definitely reminds me of the fried cheese sausage hotdogs we had in Seoul.

The Korean street corndog experience comes to Melbourne.

They’re fried fresh, so be prepared to wait around 5-7 mins.

Sausage Chunky – the batter is crisp and you have the option of adding sauces or a sprinkle of sugar (it’s a Korean thing apparently). The sausage itself has a light flavour.

Squid Ink & Mozarella – I don’t get the seafoody taste from the squid ink but the colour is definitely there. The mozzarella is nice and stretchy.

Chunky Town gives this end of the CBD an alternative snack option, especially during those late nights.

My god these were such yummy corn dogs! Oooey gooey with cheese in the middle with your average hot dog centre. There’s a good range of sauces that you can eat with the corn dogs. There is no seating area which is a shame, but definitely can eat it on the go for a quick snack.

This place reminds me of Korea so much so was excited to try. I personally haven’t had it with sugar although i know its a Korean thing lol need to try that next time! But I love the potato with extra cheese and hotdog version. You can’t go wrong. I found it a little filling though so recommend sharing otherwise it can get a little sickening. Otherwise perfect for a quick snack!

Korean street food is fantastic. I shared some hot dogs with sausage and mozzarella, and a vegetarian mozzarella hot dog. They were great, crispy, crunchy hot doggies and they were filling!! The waffle fries were crunchy and crispy too and they disappeared in seconds haha. The spicy rice cakes (Tteokbokki) were full of chilli and they are always a treat. My matcha milkshake was the best, freezing cold milk and a great matcha flavour. When I was there this place was packed which is hardly surprising. Located on the ground floor of the QV Building off Swanston St its easy to find. Oh, and did you know you can buy take away well, frozen (hot) doggies to eat at home? They are available in food retail shops and they are definitely a treat. Cook 'em in a microwave, your oven or an air fryer! Too easy. I'm getting more for sure. Thanks for the invite.

A different twist on a classic. If you like Dagwood dogs when you go to carnivals l, you'll love Chunky Town. The one covered in potatoes is kind of like a hash brown casing, delicious! The oil was slightly fishy so if you're not a fan of fish, avoid. Otherwise really good!

I get food from chunky town often, and I enjoy it! It’s a very good comfort food and is very fillinf. I enjoy getting mine with peri peri sauce and sugar. I have tried the potato one and the one with the crushed noodles on the exterior, and I really enjoy them. I do wish that the cheese was more consistent and went down the entire corndog, but the way it is made is understandable why it isn’t like that.

A good place for Korean corndogs. They are yummy and made fresh per order. My favourites are sausage cheese potatoes and the squid ink. Price wise is good, but the service is always relatively slow.

Chunky Town is a Korean street food stall in the heart of QV shopping centre. They sell a range of hot dogs on a stick, as well as fried chicken, fried doughtnuts and Korean soft drinks. They have over 500 stores in Korean, but this is their first Melbourne location. I tried the sausage chunky for $5.50. The dough was warm and chewy on inside, and crispy on the outside. With a juicy sausage and generous slathering of both mustard and tomato sauce, this was a great snack. If you like hot dogs, I’d recommending giving Chunky Town a go.

Friendly service. They could have more staff than 2 people on for a Saturday night though, was a bit of a wait. The food was alright, but did seem to lack flavour honestly. All in all, it was alright to try.
