Always love Hui Lau Shan's dessert and drinks. The taste is exactly the same has their Hong Kong stores. I highly recommend the Mango Romance set where you get a sample of all their best desserts like the Mango Mochi and Chewy Balls!

I took my family to Hui Lau Shan the other night as we were craving dessert after dinner, and this was the perfect spot!

We ordered a variety of different dishes to share, including:

Jumbo Mango Chewy Ball - this will always be my favourite option at HLS, and I love that it comes in jumbo size too! Definitely enough to feed 2-3 people. The mango flavour is so concentrated, and it pairs well with the chewy balls. The mango sorbet adds the perfect refreshing touch.

Jumbo Pomelo & Mango w Sago - this reminds me of the classic mango sago dessert, however it’s not as “coconut-y”. I like that it comes with pomelo which makes it a bit more unique.

Black Glutinous Rice & Taro Paste (warm) - great for cold days. This dessert is very filling and warming. Love the fragrant nuttiness of the black glutinous rice. It’s not overly sweet either.

Milk Custard w Mango (warm) - an interesting dish! The milk custard is very light, and not too sweet. Although we asked for warm, it was served cold-ish (?). Not my favourite.

Herbal Jelly with Honeycomb, Mango & Chewy Ball - love the herbal jelly, which is super light and refreshing. It goes well with the mango, and the addition of honeycomb is nice too.

Twin Icy w Mixed Fruits - another one of my favourites here. I really like the unique texture of the icy, as it’s not like ice nor is it like ice cream. It’s not like bingsu either, as it’s more solid. Really unique texture, and very refreshing too!

The only thing I would note is that there is no air con upstairs, so it might not be optimal to go up on really hot days!

Definitely try the mango jumbo pomelo sago dessert! It was so delicious, perfect amount of mango and coconut mix. Things are decently priced relative to other dessert places and it’s right next to the arcade too which is a plus! Staff were very polite also, would love to go back and try the other desserts

Loved these drink since my last visit to Hong kong and still love it now, thank god they got a shop in Melbourne.

The Mango drinks are the best, tried the peach one today it is just as good. They got fresh peaches inside, would definitely recommend if the price tag wasn't so high at $9.8 for a cup.

Only downfall was that the drinks are not cold at all, maybe because I got them on a hot day. But still, hope they can improve.

Not bad for something that came from overseas.
The photos above; one photo is from the Hong Kong store and the other is from Melbourne.

The mango is obviously canned mango. The Hong Kong stores have more food options. I hope they can bring that to Melbourne.

Herbal jelly with the fake honey... 3/10
Mango sago.... 5/10

All the ice desserts seem melted by the time they bring it to you.

And the toy grab machines next door should just accept gold coins

Hui Lau Shan is one of our favourite dessert parlours and our must go place when we are in Hong Kong. So happy they finally opened up a store in Melbourne and part of Zomato Gold (1+1). We ordered the Pomelo & Mango with Sago and the Black Glutinous Rice & Taro Paste. I really enjoyed the Pomelo & Mango combination, very sweet and refreshing. The rice porridge wasn't too sweet and had taro chunks and glutinous rice balls. The chewy balls would have been even perfect if the size was a tad bigger. Unfortunately we wanted to try the mango and durian pancakes, but they had ran out. Overall, we enjoyed our desserts and the venue was very spacious. We will definitely come back and hopefully get our hands on those pancakes.

I've always been obsessed with rice porridge and I've recently become obsessed with yoghurt drinks so I love the chance to get both at one spot. This spot specialises in mango desserts but it's the matcha yoghurt and purple rice with mochi that got me. The first is smooth and a bit fruity (probably from the sourness of the yoghurt) and doesn't have too bitter of a matcha taste, which is nice. Meanwhile, the purple rice is perfectly creamy and has a slightly toasted flavour. Pair the two dishes together for a real treat. The serves aren't as big as they look in the photos, FYI, but the prices are reasonable.

Chewy Balls! When Hong Kong meets melbourne with dessert. This cute cafe seems small from the front but there is an upstairs room with a spacious restaurant.

Our favourite was the chewy balls which are almost like mochi balls. They serve a range of desserts with fresh mango and even bubble tea which were refreshing!

Decided to give this place a go after seeing it on zomato gold. The mango crystal jelly was better than what I had initially anticipated. The mango unlike some other places tasted refreshing and authentic and all elements worked really well together. You could tell that the mango ice cream was not your cheap quality ice cream you get at other places.

A no frill dessert shop with plenty on the menu to cater to any sweet tooth. Went with the pomelo and mango with sago as per the staff’s recommendation and it was delicious. The sweetness of the mango ice cream was perfectly balanced by the fruit and puree.
Can’t say much about the durian chewy ball though. IThe missus loved it so it must have been good.

BEST ASIAN DESERT IN MELB CBD!!!!
I love this place so so so much because I love mangos!!!! however i think there should be a bit more varieties such as strawberry/banana/kiwi deserts by themselves because not everyone is a huge fan of mangos, like my boyfriend prefers strawberries over mangos.

Food: 5/5

Service: 5/5 - very friendly even though they seem like international students working they try their best to take your order and what you want.

Drink: I haven’t tried but will next time and hope it’s good

Interior design: 4/5

Overall, this place is so nice because of their food and it would be equivalent to eating at DESERT KITCHEN.

This dessert place is very popular in Hong Kong and it's such a novelty to see it opening up in the heart of Melbourne.

It can get very busy at peak times so expect to queue up if you are there during those times. The shop front may appear small but there are seats upstairs if you choose to consume your desserts in store.

We had the Mango Delight Trio and the Matcha tea latte. The mango pieces were tiny but fresh and tasty. Loved the strong green tea flavour in the matcha latte. Service was pretty on point.

With another branch already opened in Clayton, here's hoping they do well and spread their mango wings all over Melbourne!

My girlfriend and I attended Hui Lau Shan last night and ordered Mango Sago and Milk Custard Mango (hot). Order taker was prompt and bilingual. Table service was prompt but unresponsive to our attempts to build rapport, very robotic. Both desserts were delicious but the Milk Custard Mango was luke warm/borderline cold. Hoping it was just the weather, giving this one the benefit of the doubt and appreciating that this is currently a zomato gold partner. 4 stars.

One of my favourite is the Jumbo Pomelo and Mango with Sago. Good for sharing for around 2-3 people, with generous amount of mango topped with sago and fresh pamelo. Yummm!

Second choice would be the Herbal Grass Jelly with Fresh Fruit & Crystal Jelly. Super live the crystal Jelly.

I had heard about Hui Lau Shan from friends who swear by bubble teas! Finally found time to visit this gem with a friend. Given their mango speciality both of us ordered Mango Cheese Tea & were left speechless (literally!). I felt like I was drinking out of a mango, so smooth & so creamy. The cream cheese layer on top was wow so yummy too. After a few hours we wanted to go back & have one more

We used the limited time BOGO offer so ended up paying $8 total but for full price of $8 for one it's a little expensive.

Love their black glutinous taro, very smooth and flavoursome, love the black purple glutinous rice, i always go with the hot option. Portion is quite small for its cost. I’ve tried the one with durian before, but personally dont think is worth the extra cost for the additional durian.

The mango black glutinous trio, great combination also, quite refreshing and the mango taste good.

I came here with a friend that had been talking highly of the sticky rice balls. We ordered the strawberry sticky rice balls, mango and herbal jelly sticky rice balls and crispy mango. The interior is so cute and loved the velvet chairs. It was quite busy for a Wednesday night and the food took a while to come out. I found the herbal jelly to be a little bitter and too herbal for my liking probably because I’m used to the sweet canned versions. The rice balls were so good and despite being cold they were still soft and chewy. The crispy mango was surprisingly good too, the inside is some kind of ice cream or frozen cream and covered in crisp flaky pieces. Will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu.

Hui Lau ShanHui Lau Shan is known to many as one of the popular international dessert chains. They focus mainly on fruit desserts and they have launched specialty desserts both served hot and cold. They have recently opened a branch in Melbourne cbd.There is a takeway counter on the ground floor and you can head upstairs for a seating aread. Had the privilege to try their new range of desserts and we were blown away. Could not even decide which one was a favourite as they were all yummy. We had the items below;
Herbal Jelly with Honeycomb, Mango & Chewy Balls
This was one of my favourite, the herbal jelly was diced up nicely and it was served with fresh mango and chewy balls topped with a scoop of honeycomb. Really liked the idea of the honeycomb as it gave it the extra sweetness and changes the flavour of the dish. The honeycomb went really well together and the chewy balls had such a nice texture. It was quite a refreshing dish, perfect after a heavy meal.
2. Purple Rice Yogurt
There has been quite a crazy lately with the purple rice yogurt in Australia, and this was presented nicely. I particularly liked how it wasn’t too sweet and it had a nice texture to it.
3. Durian & Pomelo with Sago
This dish is dedicated to all Durian lovers out there, if you love Durian you would love this dish. It had a big scoop of durian on top and it went really well with the pomelo and sago as it blends the flavours really well together.
4. Mango and coconut ice with mixed fruits
I find this dish special as the mango and coconut shave ice had such a silky smooth texture. The shave ice literally melts in your mouth and it the mixed fruits makes it a very refreshing dish.
We had such a lovely time at Hui Lau Shan and the service was really good. Just the perfect sweet ending after a meal.

Hui Lau Shan is a popular dessert chain in Hong Kong and it’s easy to see why! They specialise in fresh mango flavoured desserts and put a lot of effort into sourcing the highest quality mangoes around. I was genuinely blown away by how good these were, and it’s definitely become my go to place for Asian desserts or specifically a mango fix in the CBD! Despite looking tiny from the street they actually have a beautiful seating area upstairs that is spacious and super elegant. A perfect place to relax with a group of friends or a date!

We tried some dishes from their winter specials including:
🥭 Non-Icy Pomelo & Mango with Sago
🍶 Milk Custard with Red Bean

I loved the fresh fruits, chewy balls, creamy sago and coconut ice cream. Every dish was just really fresh and you could taste the high quality ingredients. Definitely recommend for fans of Asian desserts and fruity flavours!

This place serves fresh fruit desserts and drinks. A must-try is Mango Romance, especially if you are here for the first time. It’s a platter that contains a bit of everything from their signature items. Mango purée with chewy balls are my favourite part! The texture of chewy ball is very different from other places, it’s like gummy bear but softer. And the mango ice cream is so refresh like sorbet. I really the mango and coconut milk with aloe jelly drink. It’s well balanced and remember to mix it you drink.

Hui Lau Shan is a popular dessert franchise in Hong Kong and I was excited to find this branch in Melbourne! When we arrived at 8.45pm on a weekday, it was so busy and had a long queue out the door - so you know it's gonna be good!

We got the new menu items not on the regular menu yet - they were amazing!

1. Milk custard with mango, which was my favourite and it was so smooth and creamy.

2. Grass jelly, chewy balls and mango - divided neatly into three piles. It was very nice and refreshing.

3. Durian with pomelo and coconut sago - If you love durian, you will love this. There's a whole heap of durian meat in it and the coconut sago dessert was just really nice.

For the drinks, we got the Mango and Coconut juice with aloe jelly, as well as the Aloe and Aloe Jelly in watermelon juice. It was very freshing and there were a lot of jelly inside that was like eating a dessert through a straw!

The only downside is that because the place was so popular, we wanted the Mango Romance and it was sold out :( It would be great if they have more supplies of the popular dishes, but never to fear, I will be back to try some other dishes too.

Thank you Hui Lau Shan for the invite.

As mango is the star of this dessert store, I decided to get a mango and coconut juice with aloe jelly. The juice is actually rather viscous but the fresh flavours of mango did shine through. Overall, quite a nice dessert drink but I probably would get it with mango jelly instead of aloe jelly next time as there wasn't much flavour to the aloe jelly. The downside of this store is the slow speed of service and the staff would ask you to show your receipt as well (which I lost!) before they would give you the drink.

Straight Outta Hong Kong. If you know, you know.
Hui Lau Shan is a massive dessert chain that has been in Hong Kong forever, but only just recently it has finally reached our shores.
The quality and consistency is pretty much on par with the Hong Kong branches, except they’re missing a few items on the menu, namely the “scarier” ones deemed unpopular for Australians.
However fresh fruit is king, and their signature mango desserts are absolutely refreshing – just how I remember.
Quality and consistency is important, as the Melb branch perform a quality assurance process with the HK team.
The shopfront has a takeaway counter, but there is seating upstairs, where it is spacious and bright.
The black sticky rice is cooked nicely – grains pop and is not gluggy.
Fresh mangoes are imported and the rice balls are nice and chewy.
The drinks are pretty much dessert in a cup – it’s huge and mostly has a combination of jelly, fruit and coconut milk.
Hui Lau Shan is a great dessert option if you’ve just finished dinner in one of the nearby Asian restaurants. It’s like a mini Hong Kong.

😱Lizzie’s first impression: coming all the way from Asia - this cute little dessert bar is literally everything you need after a heavy dinner. Something sweet, something not too unhealthy and quenches your thirst.

🍩Lizzie enjoyed: I loved all the options that they have here - especially for the mango fanatics. They have so many dessert options dedicated to mango and I got to try the mango dessert three way. They consisted with mochis in a mango nectar, a mango icecream with actual mango bits (delicious) and also a mango mochi.
I also tried the chewy mochi balls in mixed fruits in two juices - as simple as it sounds the dish actually worked and tasted so refreshing. It even came with a side bowl of fruits.

The drink that I tried was their signature mango and coconut juice with aloe jelly - it was light yet refreshing and everything I needed in a drink after a long day at work! My partner tried the grapefruit oolong tea and I actually preferred that - it was sooo yummy and you could really taste the oolong as well as the fruit.

🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: the mango mochi was my least favourite as it was a little tough on the outside in the trio mango platter, but I still enjoyed the mango romance dish altogether.

🥇Lizzie rates overall: despite the small shop front, there’s plenty of seats upstairs and it’s actually perfect lighting up there. I love how they presented my dish on a round wooden board which created a very nice finishing touch to my desserts.

Hui Lau Shan is a chain of dessert restaurants based in Hong Kong, specializing in dessert soups called tong sui, snacks and desserts. We have recently been blessed to have Hui Las Shan come to Melbourne!

We were invited here the other night to sample some of their items on the menu. We had The Mango Romance, Chew Balls with Mixed Fruit in Mango And Watermelon Juice and Strawberry Chew Ball. For drinks, we had the Mango and Coconut Juice with Aloe Jelly and the Mango and Coconut Juice with Sago.

As you can tell, there was a lot of mango on the menu! I found the dishes to be extremely tasty and refreshing. We were informed that their mangos come from all over the world depending on harvesting time and you can tell that the mangos are extremely fresh and natural!

Our favourite dish were the Chew Balls with Mixed Fruit in Mango and Watermelon Juice. The chewy balls themselves had a very interesting texture and was very enjoyable to eat. The juice that accompanied the chewy balls was delightful and the flavours really came together! Both drinks came in take-away cups which were extremely convenient as we were both 'mango-ed out'!

The staff at Hui Lau Shan were really accomodating and made us feel very welcome. The food came out super quickly and we had no complaints with the presentation of the food.

We cannot wait to return soon!

Hui Lau Shan has been on my to go list since the day it opened! Even up till today, there is still a line usually during peak hour. 😭 We ordered the mango chewy ball & mango pancake which added up to 17ish. Do note that there is a minimum of $6 pp. 💵 They are basically known for their mango based desserts so we decided to go with that even though they do have non mango options. 🥭 I am a huge fan of the mango chewy ball which is super complimentary with the mango flavour! 🍨 The mango pancake was however pale in comparison and nothing fantastic. 👎🏻 We wanted to go with the mango pudding at first but it ran out, so perhaps that would have been a better option! 😥

Edit July 2019 Bumping from 3 to 5 stars because they may have listened to the feedback regarding freshness, everything we tried was outstanding. The new menu is also fantastic with new additions like herbal jellies, fruit teas and durian desserts. We tried the herbal jelly with fresh fruits, mango chewy balls, durian sago and a few drinks. The mango was fresh and so sweet, wifey and bub were very impressed. The durian sago was amazing, i thought it would be too heavy and creamy but it was light and refreshing 👌. Drink wise the purple yoghurt rice and peach fruit tea were great but the stand out was the Taiwan Greengage. It had fresh lemon, lime and kiwi pieces and the flavour was just amazing. -------------------------------------------------- Hui Lau Shan is a famous mango dessert joint from HK that recently opened in Melbourne CBD. We ordered the mango romance as it gives a little bit of everything. The mango flavour is nice, never really had Philippine mangos before but they are quite nice. Would love to see them use some Australian mangos when they come back in season. Unfortunately the mango used wasn't very fresh (observe pic), the flesh of the mango was mushy and bruised. The mochi was quite hard (leading me to believe it wasn't that fresh). Good potential however fresher consistent ingredients would really help this place.

The shave ice literally melts in your mouth and it the mixed fruits makes it a very refreshing dish. We had such a lovely time at Hui Lau Shan and the service was really good. Just the perfect sweet ending after a meal.

Best desserts here in Melbourne!! Tastes just like how they do it in HK! So excited and loved it we came back on the second night! Just be mindful that they do serve a lot of durian desserts and if you don’t like it you will be swamped by the smell.........

Open relatively late compared to other dining and dessert places around. A number of Asian (Hong Kong) desserts available, currently with a focus on mango. They also have herbal jelly and beancurd based desserts. The mango desserts we ordered were good, if a little on the sweet side. The different components (mango ice cream, mango sorbet, sago/tapioca pearls) gave it different textures. The serving size wasn't stingy. You order and pay downstairs, after which you find a table at the seating area upstairs, or wait for your takeaway. If dining in, they will bring your dessert and drinks to you. Not too packed as we were there quite late.

Had the mango jumbo thing which was delicious but quite expensive. The desert had mango ice cream, mango sorbet, mango pieces and chewy rice balls. The chewy balls were seriously chewy.

Serves aren't as big as they look in the photos, FYI, but the prices are reasonable.

This is a great new place to try some exciting new desserts and drinks. The store seems to specialise in Mango and durian ice creams and drinks. I had the mango with coconut milk and Crystal jelly drink it was delicious and the mango was extremely fresh and flavorful. We even got some free coins to play the claw games while waiting for our drinks. I definitely want to go back and try more things.
