Review Manjok - Melbourne

Edwar Kartio
This new Korean restaurant specializes in pork hocks. You can order it in a meal with cold noodle or rice balls and we pick the latter one. You can also pick between level 1 - 3 for spiciness, level 2 was quite mild. The meat was tender and seasoned nicely. It also comes in bite sizes rather than the big chunk of hock which I normally find hard to eat. Apparently they open till 3 am too which is great if you looking for food and drinks till late. Food - 9 Service - 9 Vibe - 8 Price - $$

New favorite Korean in town. Specialised in pork knuckle and pork belly. Both juicy and yummy. Seaweed rice balls are very nice too. Personally cold noodle is not my favorite. But it can be swapped with rice balls.

The food was good. It went really well with peach soju. However, would be better if staff can be friendlier.

Good atmosphere. Friendly staff. Ordered soondubu jjigae.... a bit watery to be honest. Or maybe they are specialist of pork hock not tofu soup. Maybe would try pork hock next time, if I’m coming in with a group not alone.

My favourite spot to eat and drink late at night in the city. If it's busy and you want service make use of the service buttons located on the table and somebody will be with you promptly. They take EFTPOS which is a plus. No split bills. I love the pork cutlet (pictured).

Place is good. Watermelon soju was awesome. Budea soup was a bit salty but it's understandable Foods are generally good. But it's a bit costy Nice staffs Just one thing.. they don't open on lunch time Please change the trading hour on zomato.... We've been twice on Lunch time for nothing

The food was alright but the korean staff with blonde hair had a very rude attitude and bad customer service. It would have been perfect without her.

I was disappointed about Manager’s customer service. It was pretty rude when he explained how he took seats for our group. We could understand their situation but his attitude was rude we will not visit here again.

We ordered an original pork hock with cold wheat noodle set for 2 ppl and I liked it. The pork was very tasty, noodle had enough spice. Nice environment. If I could give 4.5, I would only because the place was a bit cold and the music was very loud.

Had chimaek set + flavour soju + steam egg + kimchi pancake + corn cheese for 4 people. Really filling! The egg is nice, kimchi pancake just okay. Definitely coming back for the bossam! :) *what this place famous for*

The ham hock is quite nice here but the other dishes are quite lacking flavour or substance. The boneless korean fried chicken was just KFC style popcorn chicken with dipping sauces. Service is very attentive and the waiters put a lot of effort into assisting customers.

Come here for pork jock and it is really nice! The large portion is really big. Even three people are hard to finish that. Next time I want to try rice ball, looks nice in the photo.

Great little discovery after CJ lunch bar had a waitlist. Our waitress was happy to suggest vegetarian options and offered to make the kimchi pancake meat free. It was unusual to see that it included meat in the first place, but that's besides the point. At $20 it was a bit pricy, but pretty big and filling- especially given its thick layer of cheese topping. We also ordered a bibimbap with small chunks of deep fried tofu. Luckily, the rest of the ingredients were very fresh, which balanced things out.

Manjok also has several other classic Korean dishes on offer (like seaweed rolls and steamed egg bomb) that aren't on offer at other restaurants I've been to, which boosts its appeal. For a hearty lunch or dinner, this is a great option.
The pork hock was just okay- quite standard in taste, and relatively small portion of food for what you are paying.
Also, the service is pretty slow- had to wait 10 minutes to be seated, despite the restaurant not being that busy and there being free tables available.

Terrible service, the dishes I had weren't great either. Not sure about other dishes but the spicy boneless fried chicken was not spicy nor flavourful, teokbokki was average only. They had great music and the dim lighting is probably suggesting that the place is highly suitable for drinks, not so much for the food as I couldn't even tell if the sauce on my fried chicken was red or brown.

Service wasn’t that great. Had their fried chicken and the tteokbokki, below average, not that great. Ambience was great tho. Not sure if their pork hocks/chowders are any better than this but I don’t think I’ll be coming back here.

YUM!!! Came in dinner time. Ordered garlic pork hock and steamed pork belly. The pork is juicy, delicious and flavoursome. Portion is huge. Definitely a place to be when u looking for pork hock and pork belly. Will come back soon.
这家店人不多 点的两种猪肉都很好吃. 菜也上得很快. 整体来说非常不错的

I was surprised that the jok bal were not warm. But I ate it deliciously. Bossam kimchi is too salty. Jok bal is more delicious than bossam. Not bad ~
Satisfy your oink cravings.

Ambience: The place is medium sized, not too dim with sunlight, and isnt crampy.

Service: Staffs were friendly, one speaks good English too. Food came out after a reasonable wait. You get a 10% disc if you pay cash!

Food: Obviously we had their pork hock, the original one. It was the set for two which came with the cold noodle salad. It was definitely enough to feed three, the amount of meat was generous. It was my first time havign pork hock but we enjoyed it, was flavored well, didn't smell much, texture was pretty tender, though maybe some parts could be more tender.

I loce the noodle salad though, chewy noodles and refreshing vegs especially the sweet sour and spicy sauce! YUM

Laslty, their sundubu jjigae with seafood was great. Taste was there, portion was good too.

Would love to try their spicy pork hock and pork belly next time!

(Delivery)
I had their spicy pork rice, which were put in a bowl, so the sauce was leaking all the way to the rice which was really annoying :( Yes I loved it, the taste was great (a bit tpo saucy tho), meat was tender, carrot and veg were crunchy and it was filling for a portion but I honestly was expecting more as usual korean meat dish has more. I also asked for side dishes and got some pickled radish and carrot, kimchi and edamames which were nice.

Price: $15 for just one bowl of rice with a serving of pork bulgogi is bit pricy.
Dine in however was definitely worth it foe the portion, also 10% disc was an awesome deal.

YUM: original jokbal (pork hock), noodle salad, {delivery} spicy pork if the rice is separated and portion is bigger

NAH: none

photos: spicy pork, side dishes

xx、 joelle

Cozy, lovely simple Korean joint which specializes in the authentically Korean signature dish of pork hock done exactly the way they do in Korea (including the service to boot) Pictured is most the Set C which although is for 3-4 pax, my wife and I normally polish off it ourselves with a couple of Sojus. The warm pork hock is cooked to perfection and the buckwheat noodles is tasty with all the condiments, only complaint being spoiled (yes I seriously mean it) in Australia with our expectations of service, this place is crazily understaffed although they do try very hard.

Great typical Korean restaurant, we tried the spicy pork hocks and the nagasaki jjamppong it zqs delicious. The restaurant is open till very late and never overcrowded. The service was very good and we could get extra side dishes for free.

Been here twice and by far its a good experience I like the spicy jokb and riceballs. The first time ordering this I didnt know that this is a big meal and I am the only one eating haha the server and I both laughing haha! This is a good place to hang out with friends or you love ones.
I will visit for more.

I had a really tasty lunch special. The entire menu looked good to me. Food was well prepared and the place itself is nicely set up for a casual lunch or dinner.

I was very disappointed with this joint. i heard this restaurant was good with their "jok-bal" so went there on 4th of feb, sunday night around 11.30 pm. i walked in with my mates and the waitress says oh sorry we are closing early tonight and i was like "why? isnt it meant to close at 3am?" and she says "yeh. but tonight is quiet so decided to close early." i look around and see 4 tables of customers inside..... like really...? what kind if restaurant refuses customer like that before 3 hours of closing time? very disappointed and i will never come back. i want to go to a restaurant where i feel welcomed. This restaurant is not MANJOK. Its BUL-MANJOK.

Great place that open till late for some midnight eats. Always seems to be busy despite the time with mostly Korean customers. Good place to hangout with friends for a drink and chat. Had the bossam and it was really nice.

Been here twice and taste better now. Had half of the spicy (level 2) and half of the original pork hock, it was pretty spicy even tho im used to spicy food. Their side dish was not good not bad, but overall was nice.

Opens really late, and the place is not overly crowded. Really love their spicy noodles salad (served cold). Goes beyond my expectation because I usually don't eat savory food that is served cold.

Staff were friendly and hospitable but the food was sub par. The sauce cold noodles tasted like plain ketchup. The signature hock was ok but was dry. The seafood tofu soup was bland. The lettuce provided to accompany the hock was gritty and sandy. The additional soup provided tasted predominantly of yeast extract or msg. All at a cost that could have paid for a Korean BBQ banquet elsewhere.

We ordered some korean food, expected them to taste very authentic as the vibe seemed v cool. But the taste wasnt so great and i dont think the food was worth the price. Dont think id wanna go back.

Excellent, authentic food in a relaxed, cozy atmosphere. So many great things to choose from on the menu if you're interested in (or are already well-acquainted with) Korean food. I will happily return to this place!

staff were standing in the bar. It was my friend's birthday we told them to bring out the cake with candles and few minutes later she was standing in the bar talking again and forgot about it, we got someone else to brought it out for us. They didn't give us any knife to cut the cake and they gave us bowl with a CHOPSTICK instead of the spoon to served with the cake.

Walked in, smiled, waited, 2 minutes past, whole floor staff walked and talked around avoiding eye contact. Heaps other places that does good korean pork feet/steamed pork, just pretend this small new establishment never existed..
