Good place to enjoy a big family dinner with close friends. Tasty soup and fantastic selection of seafood. Recommend to go in a big group to choose as many ingredients as possible. Service could be better though.
Nice experience. Really elegant place for meeting friends. Decent waiters. And the foods are above normal standard. Best to try their 油条 super delicious!!
Fantastic time. First time going to this hot pot place with some friends had never been to one before and we were not disappointed. It was fantastic. The food was fresh and it offered a vegetarian soup base. The staff were friendly, fast and helpful. I'd forgotten my Cardigan and they chased after us to return it. The food is pricy but well worth it, quality over quantity. I'm certainly going to be coming back and again and I can't stop raving about it to my friends.
Yummy food, but bad customer service. I love eating hot pot here, as it's so comfortable on the private booths with the couches and beautiful decorations. The food is great, with lots of variety and thankfully it's fresh too. There does become an issue when communicating with staff as they can not understand english very well, and might miss things or make mistakes. But other than that the food is still very lovely and just remember that to be patient while your cooking your food!
Absolutely amazing hotpot! Especially the pork bone soup base was just lovely!
Overall, if given the choice, I'd probably veer towards all you can eat hotpot's as they range from $25-$30 with pretty much the same selection. However, the quality and presentation of meats and vegetables did seem a lot cleaner at Flavour Town, but given its price tag - expect to pay $40-$45 pp, I would expect no less. Be careful with the order forms as its so easy to get carried away!
A different way to have an evening meal. One of the things that I love about going out to meals with friends is that they end up taking you to places where you normally would not go, and this certainly is one of those places. Mind you this place is not the type of restaurant that you would generally go by yourself simply because of the way they serve the food.
First you order a broth, which is put into a stove on the table and heated until it is simmering. You then order a number of uncooked dishes, namely meat and vegetables (and you can also have dumplings) and you put them into the broth. Once they have boiled quite nicely you remove them with your chopsticks (if that is a way you enjoy eating – which I do – otherwise you have other implements to enable you to get the food out of the boiling soup) and proceed to eat.
There is one warning that I should pass on though. If you like spicy food you better be prepared for some really, really, hot broth, because when they advise you that the spicy broth is mild, that means that it is the upper end of mild. If you go for the super heavy spicy then be prepared to for a broth that makes beef vindaloo seem mild in comparison.
Absolute my taste. This Hotpot place is so nice!! I went there with a group of 8, we're all very satisfied. From the environment to the foods and the service we are very impressed (because the tiny entrance I wouldn't expected too much but I was wrong). I'm a big fan of hotpot and I absolutely love this restaurant! Fresh veggies lean meats. Better than most other szechuan hotpot places in melbourne. Definitely will go back again.
Best hot pot in town!. First discovered this place through the purchase of a Scoopon. This was one of the best and most unique experiences!!! If you are new to hot pot, ask for help - they will explain it, don't know what these other reviews are talking about. For those with iron guts, must try the szechuan soup base for the hot pot, absolutely delicious!!!! Only negative is that when you order your plates of meat and vegies, they usually tend to forget to bring out things you have ordered, so double check.
Hot to trot pot. The place was starting to get a little busy as we sat down for our Saturday evening booking. The décor was great with booths and also round tables for large gatherings. The waitresses seemed attentive at first but we lost her attention as the place got busier. The Spicy Szechuan broth was oh so spicy (but I loved it!). The other members of our part found it a bit too hot until later in the game when it mellowed out a bit after some diluting and flavour mixing. As long as you do not mind crunching on the Sichuan peppercorns and numbing out your mouth you will be ok. The Pork Bone broth was in contrast very bland to begin with but as the flavours combined it became quite tasty and definitely recommended for all palettes. We had a variety of meats seafood and veg to add to the pot and these went down really well. Don’t let the razor thin meat slices boil for too long in the pot otherwise you’re in for some chewy fare. The dumplings (although suspiciously store bought) went down a treat once boiled in the different broths. The entire meal cost just over $100 and all appetites were well satisfied. The down side was the service. Definitely a lack in communication somewhere as we waited ages for rice and only when we asked about it we were told they had run out of rice for the night. We asked for forks but were told that they ran out of them too, a dessert fork had to suffice (miserably). The manager apologised for the lack of service and said they will work on it. Overall flavour town packs a good hotpot. If they step up their service then they are sure to be a winner.
Sensational Meal ~~~. Four of us dropped into the restaurant last Saturday when we found out there were a long queue awaiting the tables. The decoration and the atomsphere are really impressing, and it has a full taste of Chinese culture elements. We waited for about 30 mins or so on the counter before our table became vacant. We shared a big pot on the table, and chose the food, dipping sauce and beers from the menu. Honestly, that was the best taste of Chinese hot pot in Chinatown district, and the quality of the meat, the vegetable and other staff were brilliantly fresh. The waitress were really helpful and there is a buzz on the table when we needed assistance, which is very convenient. We will definitely come back next week. By the way, I only realized there was a Scoopon deal on the hot pot at the end of meal. What a pity I missed that.
Really enjoyed this place. My friend & I shared a vegetarian broth (which was actually quite bland to start with but the staff brought us some spicy sauce to add to it & it was perfect). We struggled to get through all the veggies we had ordered to add to it as there was quite a bit for the 2 of us. All the veggies were crispy & fresh. The staff were nice, & very helpful for us hotpot first timers. The place itself has an excellent vibe, & I think would be a great venue to celebrate a special occasion. Possibly a tad on the pricey side had we not gone with a scoopon voucher, but a very enjoyable experience so maybe it's worth it anyway. Try the green pumpkin drink if you go. It's not what you would expect.
Great experience. Large choice of option to select from, fantastic concept of "do it yourself". Select the broth, veggies, meat, etc, put it all in one pot and eat it at your own pace. The atmosphere was brilliant, private little booths, individual service button allocated to each table. Value for money!
Dude. What a great concept, choose your own flavours, meats, vegies etc, and cook yourself. There were four of us on a voucher deal, and we weren't t really sure what we were in for.. A huge pot arrived with our selections,(split in two for each couple), and we cooked the food to our liking, . .food was plentiful, tasty, (but go for medium soup base, mild didn't quite have the kick we would have liked ), and the staff were helpful and attentive, all up a good dining experience, and one i would go to again.,.
Great Experience. What a great experience. First time steam boaters so made some bad choices but that was part of the fun. The seafood was amazing and the $2.00 corkage per person was a bargin. Four of us ate like kings and struggled to spend over $25 per person. Looking forward to next time and using the benefit of our experience.
Enjoyable. We treated the in-laws to Flavour Town Hot Pot earlier tonight with the aid of a Scoopon voucher. The staff were friendly but a little aloof - as is often typical at similar restaurants - after the food was served, they did not visit our table again. However, each table has a 'buzzer-button' to call for service anytime we wanted so, beer, water and stock-refills were easily arranged.
By booking early we were able to request individual hot-pots, which allowed a different stock for each person. Both people at our table who ordered the 'mild' Szechuan stock found it to be very hot and spicy, full of chilli and peppercorns, and hotter than was expected for a 'mild' stock. On the other hand, those who ordered the Chicken stock felt the need to to add most of the garlic-dipping-sauce to give it some more flavour.
The meat and vegetables were very fresh, and each serving contained an adequate quantity. Everyone in our party ate as much as they wanted and were very satisfied with the experience.
Hot pot party. Came here for a friends birthday using a Scoopon voucher. Can't say I was too impressed with the food here. The vegetable dishes were good but this cant be said for the meat (they had a slight smell to it even after soaking in the pot). Otherwise, the meal was pretty satisfying and filling considering how cheap it was for 4 people.
I cant fault the service here though. The waitresses were very helpful with our requests (not something that you would always expect with a lot of asian restaurants).
All in all, a pleasant experience. We all loved it. Will be back with another voucher but too expensive for what it is.
Blink, and you might miss the entrance to Flavour Town Hotpot. A tiny doorway at the bottom of a staircase leads you up to the restuarant on the first floor of 202 Bourke Street. (You could take the elevator if you feel so inclined, but be warned - its slow) You enter the pretty modern-esque looking restaurant with a bar up front, where you are greeted and taken to your seats - big groups up to twelve would need to book ahead for a large round table and there are plenty of booth seats for four to six people. As you are seated you are given the printed out order sheet that you make your selections from. Begin with your choice of broth base: choose from bases of spicy chicken broth partnered with a mushroom one or a spicy Sichuan on one side and pork bone broth on the other. For those less tolerant of chilli and spice, the standard non-spicy broth is recommended. The big wok is brought out first and the tabletop stove is lit and you anxiously wait for it to boil. A Yin Yang of delicious
Hot Pot is most ideal in Winter when the restaurants all have their windows fogged up from the steaming pots inside but I have been known to go even in the peak of Summer! Flavour Town Hot Pot offer a large variety of ingredients you can order for your Hot Pot, although it is not an all-you-can-eat restaurant like many others. The advantage is that you can order whichever ingredients you want and however many you'd like - the buffet restaurants tend to limit the varie
