It is a comparatively new restaurant offering a fine dining experience with chic & modern interiors - and also having it’s own cellar.
They offer an extensive list of specialty wines hand-picked by globally renowned sommelier, Dan Sims. And the entire list is made up of Victorian producers, with a balance of regions, varietals and even a balance of male and female makers.
.
And it doesn’t just stop there, infact gets better. if we talk about their food offering, its just mind blowing.
So well presented and so delicious in taste.
Their menu is neat with dishes that balance well with their amazing wine 🍷 collection.
Starting with starters: • Duck liver éclair • Amazing parfait • So very delish Duck Terrine
Coming to mains: • Roasted pumpkin in buttermilk & curry leaves • Spring greens, fresh corn & brioche salad • Lamb saddle, soubisle & celery • Pasta of the day : Linguine with duck, mushroom & goat cheese
.
We would definitely recommend this place to go and celebrate any special occasion or just celebrate life!!
Had an amazing valentines dinner at Edwin. Staff were lovely and the venue is cosy but classy. We ordered:
Oysters - very fresh
Liver eclairs - these were amazing, such a beautiful combination of flavors and textures
Mussels - a little too acidic for my liking
Duck - perfectly cooked, great flavour, perfect portion
Beef - loved the flavours and cooked to perfection
Overall an amazing meal with nothing to fault!
I have nothing but good words for @edwinwinebar 😍😍😍 The stunning interior, marvellous food and the wine made our experience truly memorable ❤️💕 I must highlight that there’s nothing more impressive than the thought of all produce grown in Victoria 🤩🤩 Thanks for the amazing experience and I can’t wait to come back here... (it’s definitely the venue for the perfect date night and/or special occasion might I add 😘😘)
Edwin Wine Bar is a super elegant, classy bar/restaurant located on the ground floor of the stylish Shadow Play by Peppers hotel.
It was very quiet when we went in, however the ambience is very sophisticated and has relaxed lounge music playing in the background.
Our host provided us with extensive information about the wine and produce. I love that almost everything is sourced locally - they have such a strong focus on supporting regional Victoria.
Our favourite dishes were the Great Ocean Duck as it was cooked to perfection and the dish was full of flavour. The organic beef steak was absolutely mouth watering and I loved the onions on the side - very happy I chose this dish.
This restaurant is such a gem, definitely the perfect spot for a date night.
Found this little gem tucked behind the Crown complex in Southbank. This restaurant is spacious, intimate and very classy. The staff were very professional and very knowledgeable about the food and wine on the menu.
For starters we ordered half a dozen of the Oysters with cucumber, finger lime and Murray Valley olive oil. Very fresh and I loved the taste of the olive oil with it. We ordered the Portarlington Mussels Escabeche with smoked paprika. This complimented the oysters very well. Lastly, we had the hot Croatian style salami which was one of my favourite starter dishes. The portion was perfect, the flavours were rich and packs a punch. It was the perfect ending to the starters.
For mains, we ordered Hagen's organics beef. It was beautifully plated and very creamy. I find it a little salty but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. We also had the fruit-fed Great Ocean duck with daikon and rhubarb jus - this was by far my favourite dish. The duck was cooked to perfection, the jus was enough to compliment but not over power the meat and the portion was perfect - not too small. For sides, we ordered the heirloom carrots, they complimented the creamy beef the best. They have a nutty flavour to them and I love how they were presented on the plate, very rustic in flavours and looks.
We also had a couple of wine pairing - The 2018 Pennyweight Beechworth Gamay with the duck and the 2016 Fighting Gully Road Tempranillo with the beef. Both wines are from Beechworth as Edwin supports local winemakers. It was a really special place to dine. I thoroughly enjoyed wining and dining here.
Sophisticated and sleek, Edwin is the perfect spot for a date night or when you feel like something fancy. Beautiful food is paired with amazing drops of wine, and the sexy and moody vibe is bound to impress.
From the entrees all the way to the mains and finishing off with desserts, everything was faultless. The goat's curd with peas, mint and olive oil was a delicate dish with bright and clean flavours, and the white asparagus cooked in chicken broth, thyme and dukkah was just as light on the palate. On the other end of the spectrum was the lamb cutlets. Paired with kale, anchovy and shallots, it was bold and piquant, and the lamb was wonderfully tender and succulent.
The mains were just as impressive. The pasta cooked with mushrooms is a surefire hit. Earthy and bursting with umami flavours, we left nothing on the plate. Also cooked beautifully was the duck, and the daikon and rhubarb jus provided a backdrop of amazing flavours.
Sweet tooth will be delighted with the selection of desserts here. The salted caramel eclair, creme brulee and chocolate mousse were skilfully executed, with sensational flavours to boot.
The wine pairing by the knowledgeable sommelier matched the food perfectly, and the service was impeccable. An amazing meal that hit all the right spot. Thank you for a wonderful night.
Edwin Wine Bar & Cellar oozes sophistication, this along with the incredible food and wine gives you such an amazing dining experience.
I love that most of the items on the menu are locally sourced in Victoria, the produce is exceptional.
My sister and I had the wine pairing which is a great way to sample the wine. We started off with the white asparagus in chicken broth, eclair liver parfait and pomme paillasson which was so unique in every way and tasted perfect. What I tried was unlike anything I have every had and I loved it!
For mains, I ordered the organic beef and my sister ordered the Portland blue eye fish, both stand out dishes that looked and tasted outstanding.
For dessert we shared the chocolate mousse and creme brulee, again these were faultless.
If you are looking for a beautiful restaurant to visit with the most amazing menu then I highly recommend a visit here. Thank you for the invite, we had such a great time!
If you are looking for a place that has amazing food, great atmosphere and located at the heart of Southbank, this is it!
We were blown away by the selection of food and wine they have. All of our selection was explained thoroughly to ensure that we made the right choices for us, and we sure did!
We are particularly amazed by the delicious and interesting starters they had, two of our favourites being the pomme paillasson and the eclair liver parfait. They were divine!
We also has the mussels and trout tartare, which were definitely prepared beautifully.
For mains, we opted for the duck and beef brisket - they were both cooked nicely and we enjoyed every bite.
For desserts, we finally decided on the chocolate mousse, which is light and airy, and definitely perfect for chocolate lovers out there.
I had an amazing experience visiting this place for dinner last night. Service was fast, with each wait staff well versed with the menu and wines to match each meal.
Every meal was paired with an extensive selection of Victorian wines, hand picked by globally renowned sommelier Dan Sims.
Each dish was a delecetable delight. Each dish was intrinsically presented with well balanced flavours.
Favourite Dishes:
1) FRUIT-FED GREAT OCEAN DUCK, DAIKON, RHUBARB JUS
2) GOAT’S CURD, SPRING PEAS, MINT, LEMON OIL
3) PASTA BY EDWIN
This place is perfect for date night or a special ocassion. I highly recommend this place. Can't wait to try more scrumptious dishes from your menu.
This is the perfect fancy date night venue. The restaurant is extremely classy and the staff are very knowledgeable and friendly! There is an extensive wine selection and a lovely list of cocktails. The food was incredible and you could tell every dish was thought out and perfected. There was so much flavour in each dish and ever bite left you wanting more. The pommes were extremely crunchy and a must order when attending! If you love cheese the goats curd is for you! The peas and lime added extra spunk to the dish and created flavour I haven’t experienced before. The pumpkin was full of flavour and cooked perfectly. The pasta was amazing and the mushroom flavour was delicious. The wine pairing was amazing with each dish and enhanced the flavours. The caramel on the elclairs was perfect and took the dish to the next level. Every dish tried left a lasting incredible taste and would definitely be a place I would return to!
New hidden gem in southbank. Located in off city road is this relaxing new wine bar and restaurant. Definitely a bit hidden but a great spot to catch up with friends over wine or even a date night.
For starters we had the duck terrine and the trout tartare. Both were delicious, especially the tartare with pomelo, avocado and wild rice.
For mains we had the Gippsland lamb saddle and duck. It was perfectly accompanied by red wine.
Unfortunately our desserts were a bit disappointing as the creme brûlée was a bit too running and lacked the perfect crack. The eclair was average and nothing special.
Great Menu with a large selection of wine. Would love to see an improvement on dessert.
I'm still reminiscing over Saturdays date night, we had the most wonderful night at Edwin's wine bar.
The staff were attentive and made us feel very welcome.
The food and wine were absolutely incredible. Everything we ate was mouthwatering & Edwin's in-house sommelier, Yu Kurosawa paired each dish with each wine perfectly.
Their entire wine list is made up from Victorian producers, with a balance of regions, and a balance of male and female makers.
The ambience was relaxing and the setting quite beautiful. I highly recommended this place & look forward to my next visit!
Showcasing Victoria’s finest fresh produce and wine. Their wine list is extensive and carefully curated to highlight the local producers. We tried the Sangiovese and Tempranillo and they completed the mains really well.
The decor inside is sleek and classy with a neon logo “Edwin” at the front. Love how the setting is cosy and is located in an amazing location in Southbank.
We got to try their amazing menu and started off with the eclairs, trout tartare, lamb cutlets. The trout tartare was an absolute favourite as it was a generous portion and i absolutely loved the acidity and balanced in the flavours which kept the dish fresh. The lamb cutlets were nicely marinated and the texture of the meats was tender and nice.
For mains we went with the lamb saddle and the Hagens Organic Beef and they were both absolutely amazing. The lamb was cooked really well and it was so soft. The celery and soubise complemented the dish really well. The beef on the other hand was cooked to perfection and the edamame beans was a brilliant addition to the dish.
We finished off with the creme brulee and chocolate mousse and malt which balances the flavour really well. The staff here was so attentive and friendly and they had an in depth knowledge of the menu and the background of their fresh produce.
Will definitely be back again thats for sure
I had the pleasure of dining at Edwin Wine Bar and it was a truly wonderful experience. Located just a short walk from the city, this stylish Southbank wine bar not only offers an extensive range of wines from local growers, but also showcases the diversity of the best seasonal ingredients from the Victorian region.
Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the staff and escorted to our seats. Yu, our waiter, went through the menu with us and helped us make a good selection of dishes and wines to try.
We started off with the Eclair - filled with liver pate and topped with a sticky glaze, this was a very unique combination of sweet and savoury. The choux was nice and crumbly, and paired well with the creaminess of the Pate. A delightful start.
The Pomme Paillasson has to be one of my favourite dishes of the night. It reminded me of a crispy potato hash, but a much fancier and more delicious version. I loved the horseradish and the Yarra Valley salmon roe which added a lovely pop of freshness. Absolutely delicious.
The Lamb Cutlet was cooked incredibly well - I’ve never had a lamb cutlet this tender! If you like lamb, this is definitely a must-try.
The Duck Terrine didn’t disappoint either. The terrine was a bit more chunky, so it was a little bit challenging to scoop onto the crackers, although it was still very good!
The White Asparagus was very refreshing and light, whilst still being packed full of flavour. I loved the texture of the asparagus and the broth was so delicious.
Moving onto the mains - we had to try the highly acclaimed Hagen’s Organics Beef, and we were truly impressed. The steak was cooked so well and it was incredibly tender, and the flavours of the dish paired so nicely together. Even though I’m not a big steak person, this was easily my favourite main.
We also had the Duck, which was also very delicious. I often find duck to be a bit too tough when cooked this way, but this was not the case at Edwin. It was still tender, with just the perfect bite to it. I loved the sweet and savoury rhubarb jus, and the addition of daikon.
We had the Heirloom Carrots and the Roast Pumpkin on the side. I loved the carrots - it had a really nice and deep roasted sweetness from the dates, plus some added crunch from the macadamia. Honestly amazing.
We couldn’t leave without dessert, and we decided to try a bit of each. The Salted Caramel Eclair was very nice and sweet, and the pastry was still crisp. The Creme Brulee was delicious, a classic you can’t go wrong with. But my favourite was the Chocolate Mousse with Malt - it may look big at first, but it’s incredibly light and airy. The malt complements the chocolate very well an gives it a very nice flavour.
Of course, what’s a visit to a wine bar without some wine? We also sampled a range of wines recommended by our sommelier. I’m no wine expert, but all the wines we tried were phenomenal. Yu did an amazing job at suiting to our palates.
Overall, we had an incredible night at Edwin. Thank you to Yu for being an amazing waiter, and the rest of the team for making it an experience to remember. I’d highly recommend giving this place a visit.
Thank you so much for having me.

Easily accessible from the CBD and a great alternative to the restaurants at Crown, Edwin is truely a hidden gem and a fabulous edition to the Melbourne dining scene.
Tucked away at the bottom of the new Peppers hotel, we were invited down on Friday night to find an elegant and intimate interior with delightfully welcoming staff.
The menu showcases our exception local produce and features and extensive wine list of hand picked, almost exclusively Victorian wines. They have made a point of celebrating the gender diversity of local growers with almost a 50/50 split. The Sommeliers really know their stuff so don't be afraid to ask for suggestions.
You'll find a mouth watering range of contemporary Australian dishes on the menu - warning, it's really hard to choose!
We asked our waiter to recommen some starters for us to share - exquisite fresh Tasmanian oysters 2 ways; juicy little lamb cutlet; white asparagus in chicken broth, lemon thyme with dukkah.
We then shared the insanely good gnocci (pasta of the day) with carrots to die for in a blue cheese sauce; Hagen's organic Scotch fillet; the roasted pumpkin in buttermilk and curry leaf; and the Heirloom carrots with macadamia and dates.
Every dish was just perfectly balanced with amazing flavours. This was the best fine dining meal I've had in a while and in my opinion is competitive with some of the most highly reputed restaurants in Melbourne.
Dessert was also spectacular - a milky smooth creme brulee to make you drool; and a chocolate mousse with malt dust - indulgently rich and intense, just this side of a ganache.
I should also mention the freshly baked bread accompanied by a soft butter whipped with live yeast - it tastes like vegemite!
We recommend you book if coming during peak times, and maybe don't eat anything else on the day of your visit!
Thanks so much for having us.
I was invited to this great local restaurant and wine bar by my daughter and we had a fantastic early dinner matched to some superb wines by the glass. The quality of the food was first class - I enjoyed the white asparagus and the crispy skinned blue eye cod followed by a crispy topped creme brûlée.
The service by Kirsten was excellent and she had the meals served in JUST the right amount of time and with a great knowledge of the wines in offer.
The restaurant is really well placed being very close to the Crown complex and the city. The decor is calm and inviting. The cocktails delicious and relatively well priced.
I loved it and would love to come back soon - it’s a welcome alternative to some of the busy, noisy Crown restaurants - and better value.
I’ve added photos of the Asparagus, Cod and creme brûlée - they tasted better than they looked - congratulations Kirsten and your great team.
Gastrology is a leading Australian food, travel and lifestyle blog. Gastrology writers travel around Australia and the world passionately seeking out the greatest in food and wine. Dinner at Edwin Wine Bar. Located on the Ground Floor of Shadow Play by Peppers, Edwin Wine Bar and Cellar is the only venue in the world to offer guests the opportunity to drink from its exclusively Victorian focused wine list. Celebrating the diversity of our great Australian state, Edwin's wine list celebrates the diversity of region, style and approach to wine making in Victoria, taking it one step further to highlight the significant impact women in the local wine industry have, with an almost 50/50 balance of male and female winemakers represented on the wine list.
With the elegance of an European wine bar, Edwin is the latest classy offering at Southbank. This intimate venue has a gorgeous interior, with moody lighting, plush furnishings and a cool neon sign at the entrance. Welcomed by fantastic staff, we were lead to a great window side table, and started to peruse the epic wine menu.
Edwin specialises in local Victorian wines, and the menu denotes wines produced by women which is a lovely and modern touch. Inspired by this, we sampled some fantastic rosé and sauvignon blanc; and each of the wines was delicious. The food menu is created to complement the wines, and there are loads of appetisers, some mains and a few tasty desserts. You are welcome to stop in for drinks and nibbles, or a full lunch or dinner. We chose the latter, as we really wanted to sample the fabulous dishes on offer.
We had a delicious terrine which came with delicious chutney, pickles and flatbreads; and this was a fantastic way to start. So much flavour in every bite, it was definitely a winner in my eyes. Presented beautifully, and with the perfect balance of flavours, I could eat this terrine every day.
A fresh pea, mint and goats curd dish soothed the palette with it's fresh taste and zingy flavours; and stunning potato rostis were crispy, golden delights topped with creme freche and fish roe. For mains we had the amazing duck breast which was perfectly succulent with crispy skin and the most divine sauce; a roasted spiced pumpkin dish and wild rice with pomelo and trout tartare. So much amazing flavour and textures in these amazing dishes, and again the presentation was stunning.
Finishing up, we ended our delicious meal with a classic creme brulee with it's crunchy toffee topping, and creamy vanilla custard. It satisfied this dessert lovers sweet tooth with it's richness and creaminess.
Edwin Wine Bar is a fabulous place to meet up for after work drinks or an intimate date night, but would also be fun with a large group. The elegant ambience and amazing food are the perfect complement to such a great wine list; and the warm and friendly staff are more than capable of making you feel welcome and at home here. The top notch service will have you returning again, as will the fabulous wines on offer.

With so many places in Melbourne to check out we decided to venture a touch away from the city so explore and we made our way to Edwin Wine Bar and Cellar. Chic interior and cool vibe, Edwin is definitely where it’s at. The night started off with a selection of meats and cheese where each 40g will range from $10-$12 per type and yep, definitely worth it and you can get a huge variety.
Went to dine at Edwin on a normal weeknight for dinner. The venue is within walking from Flinders street station otherwise there are trams that takes you to the restaurant. On the night we had:
- Portland kingfish
- Victorian beef tartare
- Pasta by Edwin
- Hagen’s organics beef
- Raspberry & cream eclair
- Chestnut cake
- Earl grey beignet
Everything came out prettily and tasted beautiful just as it look. The highlight of the night would have to be the Steak, that was perfectly cooked to our liking (Medium Rare). As for entree, the kingfish with passionfruit might seems like an interesting combo but it worked, we actually would preferred it to have a more zesty kick against the sweetness and the beef tartare has a nice flavour and texture to it. The earl grey beignet was our favourite dessert out of the three, the eclair we got that night has a crunchier texture compared to all the others that I’ve had.
Our waiter was super helpful and all the dishes he suggested were just amazing. Would highly recommend to anyone who want fine-dining like experience at reasonable price!
Will come back for:
+ Zucchini flower
+ Beef tartare
+ Procuitto on the bone
+ Hagen’s organic beef
A fine diner on a quiet part of South bank. This wine bar serves delicious and well presented dishes that highlights their locally sourced fresh ingredients really well. We were here for a special occasion, and I really couldn’t fault the service or the quality of the food. The dishes I particularly loved are listed above, but across the board, the dishes were well seasoned and flavourful. Prices are fine dining, but expected for in this case. Good spot for that special occasion.
I had a really enjoyable dinner experience here the other night 😍 the interior of the restaurant is really nice, the deco is really modern and gives the restaurant a really nice vibe.
We tried the
- pate - I thought the combination with the orange skin worked quite well and biting into the eclair was yum
-florets - loves the cheese combination
-scotch fillet - it was cooked perfectly !!!
- slow cooked lamb- so tender but would’ve loved some extra veggies on the dish as it was quite heavy with just the labneh
- broccolini would’ve been nicer with some sauce but still really fresh
- beignet was still warm when it came out and it was so yum!
I will definitely be back

Top notch quality food, all sourced from Victoria. Amazing atmosphere, fresh delicious food and great wine, what more can you ask for? Some of our favourite dishes are slow cooked Gibbsland lamb, roasted cauliflower and pasta by edwin (pesto,m ussels and chilli).
Amazing.
We has a fabulous evening on the 24/7. The 2 gents on duty did a fabulous job of making us feel very special, even though they where understaffed due to sickness. The service was amazing and the food even better, we could not fault it. Thank you, we will be back.
We had a lovely evening at this lovely restaurant being served some of the best wine in Victoria.
Our starter was a charcuterie board with locally sourced ingredients paired with a gorgeous Chardonnay. Portland Kingfish & Terrine for entree which each dish was delicious. The Kingfish was my favourite, and loved the passionfruit sauce it was served in.
We enjoyed mains with red wine from Central Vic and Beechworth. Our mains were the Victorian Barramundi, it was a very overly fishy dish so wasn’t too my taste but I can tell that all the flavours worked well.
The slow cooked lamb was absolutely cooked to perfection, couldn’t fault or cook it better myself. Overall we had a wonderful evening, our waiter was attentive and happily chatted with us about their wine cellar that boasts an equal amount of female wine makers & male wine makers.
Would recommend booking a table for a culinary and wine tasting experience!
Stylish and jazzy atmosphere with great food! Had the barramundi and the beef which were cooked perfectly. Great selection of wines and other alcohol.
Went there with a party of six. Walked down from Crown. Great look to the room with tables arranged around the windows. Had entrees of sharing plates. Food was of very high standard and locally sourced. Then main dishes for everyone with wines matched by the sommelier. The wine is only from Victoria. I was sceptical that Victoria could produce a good Sav B but I was wrong! Just goes to show. Well priced with good service and atmosphere. Caught taxi home from nearby Crown rank. Will go again. Good for a special occasion.
Delicious food with huge variety of wines!!! Greatness and congrats to the Kitchen team. The staff is just simple the best, they will look after your tables and makes the dinner unfortunately experience! The environment is nice, just to black to me... but has that good bar vibe which is fare well. Highly recommended to visit it at least ones.
Delicious food, always classy and ambient. Been here a few times on the fork discount booking. Love it.
The photo I uploaded is just a takeaway coffee, but everyone might be aware, here's good wine bar!
They offer happy hour drink, it's reasonable and taste good!
Wow!! Incredible place to dinner and have a couple of wine glasses!!
The service was amazing! And the food too 🤩🤩🤩
