Review Yaring Thai Street Food - Mitcham

Nam Tonthat
Not a bad spot to get some local Thai food. Stand out was the pad Thai and satay chicken skewers. Each meal comes with complimentary prawn crackers.

Small Thai restaurant, service was attentive and quick. Had pad thai which was ok, not the best pad thai I have had, it was a bit on the wetter side, and quite sweet but lack of that peanuty taste. Tried their soft shell crab stir fry and it was amazing! I love how much veggies & the variety in it, sauce was very nice. And soft shell was very yum! Overall very happy because of the soft shell dish.

Seriously good Thai food. Plus good prices. Best I've had in Melbourne, by a long way, and best since some street diners in country side Thailand.. Genuine flavours coming through . Demolished that Seafood dish, it was delicious !!

Wow, best Thai food I think I've had outside of Thailand. Great food, fantastic range and ridiculously good prices. Next time I'll take more pictures. 6/5 go there. Book in advance, not many seats available as its a small shop, so many people getting take away, I envy the locals. Will return very soon.

I have been lived around here for years but I never know Yaring Thai until my friend mention it. The restaurant is so busy during the meal time. Service is friendly, food is good and price is good too. What else you will ask more when you have the restaurant tick all the box.

Restaurant accommodated my dairy and soy allergy and I was able to enjoy Prawn Pad Thai and an amazing stirfry! So impressed with the effort:). Thank you so much for being allergy friendly!

Pad Thai was very yummy, one of better ones I had in Melbourne. Red duck curry could do with a bit more flavour - it was heavy on coconut cream but needed more spices. I forgot to say - they were also really generous with the amount of prawns in Pad Thai. Overall, a good place to satisfy you craving for Thai food.

This place is a favourite for takeaway. The food is always delicious, we love the Massaman Curry. Only problem we have is we always order too much!
Hayley
Have been ordering from here for years now. Very yummy food and friendly staff. My favourites are the veggie potato curry, red curry and pepper & garlic stir fry.

Such an amazing place. I feel lucky to love close by! Their food of very tasty and authentic. Ask most locals and they works agree. We definitely almost always order their duck curry but all are very good. Worth the wait if there was ever a long wait on orders (that’s because so many people order in!)

Yaring is a local hidden gem which has AMAZING Thai and excellent customer service. Yaring is an extremely understated eatery and more people should know about it. I have visited Yaring three times in the past 12 months and I this review is of my most recent visit last week.<br/><br/>🔆LOCATION🔆<br/><br/>Yaring Thai Street Food is situated along a small stripe of shops on Mitcham Road between Whitehorse Road and Canterbury Road, not far from Mitcham train station. There is car park at the front, and side street parking around the area.<br/><br/>The restaurant is REALLY small and can only seat up to 12 people (at most 14 people) and they are always very busy. I have seen a lot of customers come into pick up their take away orders.<br/><br/>🔆SERVICE🔆<br/><br/>You must make a table reservation if you wish to dine at Yaring. Reservations is by phone only. They don’t have online reservations system. A lot of time it goes through to voicemail and because they’re so busy may not be able to get back to you, so try to ring when they are open so you’re call will be answered.<br/><br/>Each time I dine at Yaring, I am greeted ever so warmly, it feels like you’ve entered into someone’s house to have a home cooked meal. The staff acknowledges you by name (that is soo rare!) and when a dish is delivered to the table, we are advised what dish it is. Service is very efficient, and we were so surprised how quick our food came out.<br/><br/>🔆MENU/PRICE🔆<br/><br/>Chicken Hor Bai Toey, $8.90<br/>(Deep fried marinated chicken thigh wrapped with pandan leaf and hand made black nahm jim sauce)<br/><br/>Beef Pad Thai, $13.90<br/>(Rice noodle, garlic, salted turnip, bean shoots, spring onions, egg, shredded carrot, ground peanuts)<br/><br/>Pad Pug Stiry Fry with Moo Krob (crispy twice cooked pork belly), $16.90<br/>(Garlic, onion, spring onions, red & green capsicum, broccoli, carrot, cauliflower, mushroom)<br/><br/>🔆VERDICT🔆<br/><br/>The Chicken Hor Bai Toey was extremely tasty. The chicken was very tender and moist with lovely marinated flavours from the soy, garlic and sesame oil. As the chicken was cooked with the pandan leaf you can taste the light aromatic pandan flavour as you bite into the chicken. I didn’t have the nahm jim sauce, but my sister said it was really good and had a good kick of spice and chilli in it.<br/><br/>The portions of the main meals were very generous in size. We weren’t able to finish everything and asked for container to take home.<br/><br/>The Beef Pad Thai was the best I’ve ever had in Melbourne. There was soo much flavour and you can taste the wok-tossed noodles that gives it that delicious taste. The beef was tender and all the ingredients mixed well with the flat rice noodles. <br/><br/>Our favourite has to be the Moo Krob (crispy twice cooked belly) with Pad Pug which has garlic, onion, spring onion, red & green capsicum, broccoli, carrot, cauliflower and mushrooms. The plate was bursting with colour from the mixture array of vegetables and the pork belly was delicious. <br/><br/>Yaring serves amazing quality Thai food. I’m definitely regular customer. Hopefully in future they will open a bigger premise.

This is definitely a hidden jewel in mitcham. Not a big space, and it's always full. A really good service is offered here and the lady at the counter knows the menu very well too.<br/><br/>The tom. Yum soup and the pad thai is the very best I've had anywhere. A must try if you're looking to try some quality Thai cuisine.

The service of this place was awesome! It's just a small place but willingly accepted our group of 11 people booking. The 1 girl who served us and the whole place was very friendly, efficient and always had a smile on her face even when my daughter accidentally spilled her water and dropped her fork. She even washed the fork because they ran out of forks for kids. The food was excellent and everyone was very full and happy. Value for money! Also the chefs at the back were very hard at work to get all the orders out quickly. Will definitely go back again. We usually order via uber eats but tried eating in the resto for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. We ended up leaving a tip. Highly recommended!
Good Food Good Mood
We picked up Thai take away from here the other night and it was actually pretty tasty (although I’ll never understand why some places put bean shoots on top of pad see ew, I promptly removed them). My noodles were quite flavoursome and it was pretty reasonably priced compared to other places we have ordered from. Hubs had his go to chicken cashew nut which he also enjoyed
Milena
The best Thai place in the area, so delicious! Authentic and full of flavour!! Very friendly staff.

That’s probably the best Thai food I’ve had in awhile without taking an 8 hr flight... very happy, I will be back 👍 the seafood curry was packed with seafood and the Tom Yum had great flavour
Mike Tzounis
The food is excellent, very aromatic and flavoursome. Very impressed with the roti too. Also excellent value for money. Will definitely be coming back for more.

Friendly staff. Great food. Waitress was able to give recommendations and we had a fantastic night. we has the Massaman beef, Tom yum soup and veggie with pork belly.

It’s a small unassuming place but really authentic Thai food and friendly service! I tried calling to book before their opening time but nobody picked up. However, to my surprise they gave me a call back the moment they open which is service you rarely get anywhere. Not too big portions which allows you to try a couple of dishes even with a small crowd! Only took the first dish then got too excited to eat!
Carissa Lee
Quite literally a hidden gem. The restaurant sits about 10 people, so you either have to book or come before the "crowd"<br/>Not only is their food cheap (by cheap, I mean compared to other Thai restaurants I've been to), their food is super tasty as well. <br/>The staff there are friendly and happy to refill your prawn crackers for free! <br/>About time I went back there..

My friend and I ordered the tofu salad. When our salads came, we were trying to convince ourselves that the fried potato must have been the tofu lol. More than halfway through my meal, my curiosity really triggered me to ask a staff as to where the tofu was. She went to the kitchen, and when she came back to us, apologised as the chef forgot to put them on the meals. I was utterly disappointed. Thankfully, they gave us complimentary desserts to compensate for the disappointment. I would have originally given 1 star, but their top-notch customer service deserves 2 extra stars

Small but it's big in taste! The dishes we ordered were so full of flavour, really Love them! The staff was very efficient. Will definitely visit again soon.

The best authentic Thai restaurant in Melbourne! This restaurant is a hidden gem. I’ve been to various Thai restaurants around CBD and Bangkok, the tasty quality dishes here is TOP of the charts. Reasonably priced for quality ingredients with good serving size. Keep up with the great work!! The quality dishes and customer service is 100/10. Highly recommend!!

I have now had the pleasure of both delivery and dining in and must say that the food her is nothing short of exceptional.  Wonderful flavours and incredibly fresh produce.  I look forward to making Yaring a weekly habit!

Go-to place for Thai in the Eastern Suburbs. Can't believe this place doesn't have a better rating, it's definitely 5 star food and they deliver. Best Massaman I've had in years.
Ebanful
The entree chicken in bamboo is delightful recommend you give that a go. The red curry is really nice a bit too much palm sugar for my liking but not too spicy and nice flavours come through, the vegetables make it better too. The pad see eew was spicy and full of flavour you can't instantly taste really fresh flavours. Will try again for sure.

Amazing!! The food was awesome and the service was fantastic!! It's only small, so bookings are recommended, but you won't be disappointed!!

Food is very good a tad salty on a few dishes but that's my opinion other then that best Thai food I have had outside of Thailand. Great value for money they will need an extra 10 tables soon when the word gets around.  My new go to Thai food local.
Jayde Mary
Great food and fast deliveries for online orders. However the menu isn’t overly accomodating or customisable. Overall it was one of the better Thai places.
Lemrac
What a little gem this place is! Ok so the seating area is tiny but don’t let that put you off. The food is absolutely the best Thai food in the area. We have been back 3 times since our first visit with different friends each time. Every one of them had loved it as well. Our go to for Thai from now on. Terrific staff as well. Glad to see they now have champagne & wine glasses for the BYO

Food was delicious and came out very quickly. I’m not a huge fan of Thai food but this place has actually changed my mind. The pepper and garlic pork belly was to die for. We will be back!

Went here on a Monday night and were surprised at the amount of customers coming in after us. Rightfully so because the food was absolutely incredible in both taste and presentation. The three of us got several dishes including; Prawn Roll, Roasted Duck Pancake, Fish Cakes, Red Duck Curry, Beef Green Curry and Pork Pepper & Garlic Stir Fry. All were great and would fully recommend. Will be coming back for more!

A very unassuming place on Mitchem Road. But hands down best Thai food on the eastern suburbs. Very authentic and very flavorful. But if you can't handle your chili ask for a little less

I haven't dined in-house but have ordered delivery from this restaurant on several occasions.  Each time we have been blown away with the quality of the food, the tremendous flavours and how quickly it arrives at our door!  Smaller dishes like the calamari arrive piping hot and still crispy, which is rare for a delivery order.  Vegetables in the dishes are also crisp and fresh.  The only problem I have with Yaring Thai is that when we place an order I overeat.  This is our new go-to Thai restaurant in the local area and I would encourage you to try it.  Tonight was our 5th order and all have been equally exceptional.

What a great little surprise! The food was amazing and staff including the chef were very friendly. We had tom kha soup, prawn pad thai, beef red curry with jasmine rice and finished off with dessert. Oh my the banana roti with ice cream tasted amazing! The pandan cream brulee could have done with more of the pandan flavour but the coconut ice cream with toasted coconut shreds that came with it was divine. Overall a great night out!

We decided to try a new thai place this time and it took us to Yaring. Its a very small place but it's got its own cute charm. We were seated directly. They give a fried chips to nible until the order is ready. we ordered a vegetarian pad thai and Chicken Red Curry with Jasmine Rice. The quality of the food was really good. Presentation was great. The only concern I had was, that it all tasted too sweet. I added extra chilli sauce but still the after taste was sweet. But a good place for a good quality food. I may not visit again, just because I did not like too sweet pad thai.

This little restaurant is an amazing, bright and friendly place to eat some top notch Thai food. The staff are lovely and take dietary requirements very seriously with the chef coming out to confirm it himself. It's small but the atmosphere is great and I'd much rather eat in than take away.

New owners and name change to Yaring Thai. This has to be the best Thai food I have ever eaten and I have eaten a lot. The staff are super friendly and being a small restaurant the service is very fast. I love this place and it's my new favourite.

Have tried a few Thai places in Mitcham and have eaten here twice- once at the restaurant which as mentioned by another reviewer is small and once for home delivery and both times have not been disappointed. This is easily the best Thai food I have eaten in Melbourne. For those who have been disappointed here before I would highly recommend trying it again. Will be back for sure
#alwayshungry
DO NOT EAT HERE. Ordered delivery and was given the expected time of 1 hour, received the COLD food 2 hours later. Called to complain and was told to microwave it. Absolutely ridiculous service. Waste of money. Try piyada Thai instead.
Pete
very authentic thai food. our usual go to dishes are seafood pad thai , jungle curry, pad kra pow and the fragrant coconut rice. All are full of flavours and a great hint of spice

We purchased take out from this restaurant last weekend. We ordered curry puffs, chicken satay sticks, spring rolls for entree and pad see ewe and another noodle dish (forgot the name!) for main. The puffs and spring rolls were uber oily. Wouldn't get these again. The satay chicken sticks were bland and the sauce lacking any body. The noodle dishes were terrific and would definitely get these again. Wouldn't bother with the appetisers though.

Had lunch here the other day, very nice authentic food with lovely owners. Unlike other Thai restaurants not a lot of sugar was added to the peanut sauce. Tom yum soup was great and good value for money.

Okay, I've been there a few times now.<br/><br/>Very small, basic dining area, apparently they do Catering, could that be their focus?<br/><br/>The guy Jack is a super friendly owner, takes the order and serves while the wife Tracey cooks in the kitchen, what a great combo.<br/><br/>Jack claims that his home-made Curry paste made from scratch is the best in town. I must admit that I do enjoy them, but I would work on it more to claim the title.<br/><br/>For what they are charging for lunch, it is worth the visit, you'll be happy that you did, just make sure Jack got your orders right.

One of our favs. My wife and I seem to end up here everytime we have the night off. The Chef/Owner always makes an effort to come out of the kitchen for a chat as well.<br/>

We absolutely love this restaurant!  Their food is always fresh and aromatic, with the most amazing flavours.  Just delicious!  Jack and Tracy are friendly, gracious hosts and there's such a lovely vibe about them and their little restaurant.  We are systematically making our way through the menu and yet to have something we didn't love.  A total stand out has been their Massaman curry, perfect balance of flavours and melt in the mouth beef, but everything we've had so far has been special and delicious.

Great food. Highly recommend. Shame I live in Sydney & won't be able to eat here again for a while
Yummopenguin
Quality Thai. Good food with more veggies than you usually get from most Thai places, which I appreciate. Good menu and reasonable prices. If you like things spicy, make sure you ask for chilli (or extra chilli) as most of their dishes are rather mild. But they're always happy to accommodate that request.

Eva. What a gem of a restaurant!<br/>Jack is an artist with food aswell as a superb chef, who will cater to our individual tastes. The scope of Jack's knowledge of ingredients aswell as his use of the freshest produce make for a memorable dining experience.<br/>All that, and it's cheap aswell.<br/>Thank you Jack.
Nick
Awesome. Gourmet delight. As a frequent traveller to Thailand and a foodie, have found no better thai restaurant anywhere. Great menu and Jack the owner and chef obliges with suggestions and will improvise to your taste. Best quality and value in town.

A pleasant suprise. I did not even realise this restaurant existed till I walked passed. Glad I did. Firstly, coldwater.Hard to find nowadays but always a good sign. I had the vegetarian curry puffs which were easily the best I have tasted and the vegetarian fried rice was absolutely yummo. My wife had the golden pouches and king prawn stir fry and was equally impressed. The chef even came out to instruct us on the best way to eat the meal ( what to add etc). Very attentive service, great food, wellpriced. Could not have asked for much more. Very tiny though so make a booking. You will be glad you did.

Not worth it, the other Thai in the same group of shops beats it hands down. Bad quality and watery curry

Very tasty food and well priced, staff are friendly will definitely be coming back again

A++ Food and friendly service. Have been going to J&T Thai for a while now, and quite often several times a week. The food here is extremely delicious, amazingly full flavored and keeps drawing us back again and again. We've tried many things and are never disappointed. The owners are friendly and passionate about their cooking and that shows through. Highly recommended!

Mitcham just got a new great Thai eatery!. When I discovered this place, I had my doubts. Its a small place owned by a husband and wife team which boast quite some local thai street food delights.<br/><br/>After first encounter, I must say that both owners are not only really passionate about cooking but their food certainly shows authencity and taste. Two thumbs up for this unique menu which reminds me of bangkok street food but best of all my kids and wife could enjoy the food without the usual heady msg problem associated with most thai places.<br/><br/>Been back several times and have been trying all the different dishes.... very homestyle cooking and vibrant flavours. Even their home made desserts are nostalgically delicious! <br/><br/>This is a true gem for Mitcham!
Eileen
Yum. Greatt food at an affordable price and great service!! would definitely go back.
