Review Shali's Cafe - Montville

Uthpala Jayaweera
Excellent restaurant with many reasonably priced food options, located in ideal location with an overview of Montville main street. They always welcome walk-in customers which will avoid the typical "do you have a booking?" phrase. Fast service and food is delicious. Have been there twice and definitely a restaurant worth trying in Montville.

Nice coffee and good meals. Big selection of burgers, sandwiches and curry dishes. Nice outside area to sit and enjoy the view of the village.

Waited nearly 40 minutes for 2 take away coffees when there was nobody in front of us. The bacon & egg rolls were good & well priced, staff were polite. Good location. The only thing letting them down was the wait time for the coffees.

Been eating lunch for couple of times, delicious food and friendly prices. Recommended

Went in as they advertised gluten free options. Ordered a burger and it was not as tasty as I was hoping, the patty was very fatty. We ordered a meal, drinks and a pastry and constantly had to remind staff of what was left to bring out to us.

A lot of great choices for vegans. Had the vegan lasagne and chips, big servings and really tasty. Have been here a few times and it never disappoints. Best value for money and lovely atmosphere

Excellent menu, bakery items, fish & chips, etc at very reasonable prices. Would highly recommend. Very popular as it represents good value and is delicious, especially the chips.

My frittata was amazing! It was such a fluke to run into this place with so many amazing gluten free options, where I could have it all with chips and salad and dessert and coffee! For a great price! I will definitely be back!

Store bought naan, not authentic Indian food, waited 45mins for horrible food

Pastry in the pies not cooked properly. Not much interest shown when told.

A nice little cafe in Montville with an extensive menu - mostly pies, sandwiches, burgers and Indian dishes. It’s one of the number of cafes along Montville’s Main Street, not quite as ‘pretty’ as some of the others but serves pretty good food.

My first visit to this cafe was in 2017, and I recently visited again in May 2019. I ordered the same thing as I did in 2017 - a steak burger (with extra avo on second visit). From my recollection both tasted pretty much the same, but they’ve added chips with the order of the steak burger.

On my recent visit the cafe was fairly busy and I noticed that a number of orders from surrounding tables were messed up by staff and orders had to be redone. Thankfully this did not happen to my table, especially as we had a large group.

Breakfast was very generous in serving and tasty. Pancakes were the favourite. Service was good, fast and friendly. Nice setting outside enjoying the scenery.

This cafe had a menu with lots of options and fairly good food. The wait time for two of the drinks was pretty poor but the staff were quick to fix their mistake. The desserts are great value and were delicious!!

Good food with cheap prices. Service was efficient too. We ordered the pies with peas and gravy. Fries were yum. The salad was not that big though. Satisfied us!

Small place. Very slow service. No friendly greeting for customers, did they forget it's a tourist spot. We ordered wraps, they were tasty but pretty empty. Didn't hit the back teeth. Sorry .
Unfortunately there are not many places to choose from to eat.

HUNGRY SUMMARY - good food, but plenty of other places that you can choose from in this quaint town on the Sunshine Coast hinterlands.

FOOD - ordered fish and chips with a drink (combo). The fish was the standout, the meat was soft and the batter didn't overpower the fish. The chips were ok but some of them were burnt.

PRICE - great price. $7.50 lunch special price.

SERVICE - poor service. Food took ages (waited 15 mins) and the quality did not match the time we waited for.

SETTING - good setting, had a buddhist theme (I think) and set in a very quaint and beautiful town. The lack of A/C on a hot day kind of turned me off though (it was really hot that day).

This place is quite small but accommodating. It's well presented and clean. It has an elevated view of the main street, surrounded by trees and shrubbery. The menu boards at the front are a little daunting but once inside grab the easy to read menu. Very diverse menu, great prices and lunch time daily specials. Staff are friendly and efficient. Service is prompt. Food and drinks arrived in a timely manner. Food was fresh, hot and presented well. Great portion sizes. Not pretentious, more an Aussie classic. Appears to be a family owned business. Would recommend to families and mature diners.

The butter chicken tasted very authentic, rice was nicely done, if you add $2 they will top up with garlic naan, nevertheless do not expect for traditional indian naan, its more like lebanese soft flat bread which tasted good. Do also try their fries! Yums.. avoid ordering coffee

Another place with poor service in Montville. My husband and I waited half an hour to get bacon and eggs and oily blueberry pancakes. The drinks didn't come until after the food is served (at least if they brought the drinks first it wouldn't seem so long). The people next to us who came in after us where given their meals first and even their drinks didn't come until much later. Complain to the staff about the slow service and asked to get my money back but I was told that the meals are ready. Looking forward to a nice breakfast in the mountain but came away extremely disappointed. We certainly won't be going back there again and do not recommend this cafe. I don't even think it's worth 1 star.

Fantastic little spot for lunch!! The food is way better than the rest of the snobby mediocre cafes around Montville !! So delish and really fresh!

Coffee. I just had a small coffee served black. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Could have a great view but they block it with plywood signs instead. Nobody seems to understand that tourists want to experience the views that perhaps the locals take for granted.

Economical cheap eats. Plain burger $8.50, $10.50 with bacon and cheese.
