Enjoyed every dish we chose for entree and main. Plan to go back!
Very nice! Definitely recommend the Nonay Beef it was supurb - we couldn't get enough. Staff friendly and attentive. Great choice for a quick, midweek dinner.
Tried Jacks Satay Bar with the family and it certainly didn’t disappoint.
From the delicious chicken Satay kebabs for starters to the sizzling beef which was tender and just spicy enough for me, all meals were met with smiles around the table.
The spicy pork was excellent and my wife’s Laska curry was full of fresh seafood that was well portioned.
Service was quick and friendly also.
Will be back again soon!
"Die Die Must Try!", a term so often used in South-East Asia when it comes to the pleasure of indulging in mouthwatering delights. Having been a household name in Melbourne for over 30 years, Jack's Satay Bar is an eatery that marries phenomenal service with mouthwatering treats emanating from neighbouring countries Singapore and Malaysia. The secret to the brand's longevity in Melbourne's hospitality scene can perhaps be attributed to its extensive array of food that is set to whet your appetite.
The signature Sizzling Beef is brought to you in a hotplate with a generous serving of assorted vegetables , succulent with every bite. Meat dishes aside, the brand also prides itself in offering the ocean's freshest catch, with their Ikan Kerisi, otherwise known as steamed perch. This is in addition to the tantalising Mango Scallops they offer, straight from the Hervey Bay in Queensland. To top it off, one cannot visit the eatery without feasting on the brand's signature Satay Skewers, served with peanut sauce - sensational in every sense of the word.
If you live right here in Melbourne, you might as well forget about flying out to Asia for fine-dining cuisine. Jack's Satay Bar brings the best of the East to your front door with their delivery service as well! This is convenience and simplicity at its finest.
Head down to 571 Mt Alexander Rd, Moonee Ponds VIC 3039, and let excellent delights excite your senses today!
Having been around for close to 20 years, Jack’s Satay Bar offers up patrons a modernised, Western take on famous Malaysian classics like their famous Satay Skewers.
With delicious cocktails and generously sized portions, coupled with incredible hospitality from owner John, it’s not hard to understand how they’ve succeeded for so long!
Our first visit to Jack’s Satay Bar was to catch up with an old friend from Perth after 10 years. The venue was perfect: very cosy and the ambiance perfect for a good “catch-up” conversation. We were welcomed at the door by Jack and then handed over to a friendly waiter. The food is very tasty and bursting with flavour. And the portions are generous! All in all it was an amazing dining experience with good friends at an amazing venue.

Will we return? YES!!!
Jack's Satay Bar has always been a hit with the locals and now we can see why!
We started off with a mixed platter of satay and some roti on the side. The satay was definitely the highlight of the night - full of flavour and super tender!
For the mains, we ordered Jack's Malaysian Curry and also the Nasi Lemak. For all those who love a Malaysian curry, you have to try this one! Don't forget to order some roti with it too!
The interior of the restaurant could do with a bit of modernisation, but the food makes up for it. Definitely a must if you're in the area!
Thanks again Jack for the invite!
There’s a reason why Jack’s Satay Bar has been open for over 28 years and that was evident when we came in for a meal last night. Attentive staff and friendly owners along with some good quality classic South East Asian dishes offer long term diners and sense of familiarity. Being so close
To Moonee Valley race course there is horse memorabilia on the wall as you enter but much of the venue is conservatively decorated.
It was a hot day so we started with some cool drinks, my dining buddy ordering white wine by the glass while I was swayed by the delicious cocktail special, the Gin Rickey. Gin, Mint, Lime and Soda they may as well said “Your favourite things” cocktail. This was delicious and seriously refreshing.
We started with curry puffs, spring rolls and pandan chicken parcels for entree. The curry puffs were the largest we have seen and came with a much needed satay sauce ... our first introduction to this home made Satay. My pandan parcels were so tender and flavoursome too ... but I still added before mentioned Satay to make it even more so.
For mains we ordered a sizzling beef plate and boy did it come out sizzling. A delicious and substantial hotplate with a tender beef (flavoured with a salty soy) and plenty of vegetables to. I originally had intended to eat this with roti but got rice on the side too.
My dining buddy wanted more Satay but being vegetarian didn’t have an option on the menu. Fortunately they were more than willing to create a vegetable Satay dish for her and it was very tasty.
Roti was exceptional and quite thick roti but still crispy and delicious and perfect for mopping up leftovers.
By the time we left the restaurant was teaming with locals who were maybe in early in the week rather than on the previous weekend, where racing meets has the place packed out to the max. It probably pays to book when Moonee Valley is open.
Thanks so much to John & Karen for inviting us in.
Jack’s Satay Bar aims to satisfy Melbourne’s unquenchable thirst for South East Asian cuisine by offering flavour-laden food in Monee Ponds.
An absolute favourite among the locals, the menu features a variety of South East Asian favourites including hawker style food as well as main dishes to share with rice.

Jacks Satay bar is definitely once of the best Malaysian restaurants we have been to. The place is nice and clean, staff was lovely as well.
We were lucky enough to have been invited to dine here. We started our meal with beef/chicken satay skewers, which were divine. My boyfriend literally licked the peanut sauce clean. Next we had the lohkiang, which was fried mince pork and prawn wrapped in crispy bean curd skin. We also had the jacks oyster, which were fresh oyster in 3 different toppings. It was an interesting take on raw oyster, very yummy.
For main we had the chicken curry with roti and ducksi goreng. They were both delicious as well. Top notch Malaysian food!
Before I even arrived at this place I had spoken to both Karen and Jack and they were both a delight. Before i entered this place I had a good feeling the vibes were exploding. A beautifully styled place you had a warm feeling sitting inside. The staff were absolutely outstanding both Jack and the manager were just great! It wasn't about just dropping off the food they were up for a chat sharing the stories with a great knowledge on the menu. Everything we ordered from cocktails to food was just perfect. It was a hard menu to pick from because everything looked so good. All dishes well presented and full of traditional flavour. Its been a long time since I experienced a place like Jack's Satay Bar.
I absolutely love going to this restaurant, the food and service is sensational. I’ve been coming here for 20 years and have never had a bad meal. You must try the Roti rolls.
Been to jacks multiple times and is always a delicious meal! The food is just amazing and the service just as amazing. Would highly recommend
Recently took my family to Jacks and was very impressed Food was excellent, Service great and Staff were amazing couldn't do enough for us
We will certainly be returning very soon
Wish we had of had our photos taken there so we could share the atmosphere of Jacks with everyone
I was very lucky to be invited to visit Jacks Satay bar on the weekend. This restaurant on the main road is easy to find.
The owner Jack is such a gentleman and a great host, not only with us but I saw him buzzing around the restaurant talking to regulars all night.
Jack was happy to announce that his restaurant has been running for about 30 years now, and give the crowd we saw it’s likely to be running for another 30 years lol.
The food was great. My partner and I shared
2 entrees and 2 mains and we were so full we needed a doggie bag haha
Roti rolls which were delicious, and then another dish called Lohkaing , a family recipe from the owners mother which was full of minced prawn and pork wrapped in bean curd and this was a highlight.
For mains we had Chicken thighs sliced slightly grilled w veggies and satay sauce ... Yummo!
Then we had lamb rendang which was full of big pieces of tender meat, this was fantastic! We got there early and by the time we left this place was absolutely packed.
Definitely worth a visit if your in the area. Although this place is also popular w the racing crowd from
Moonee Valley.
We were invited to dinner at Jack’s satay bar tonight and were seriously impressed. This wasn’t surprising given they have been around for an absolute lifetime in the restaurant industry- 30 years! During this period they have forged strong bonds with the locals, a fact I saw firsthand as the owner greeted regulars by name and walked takeaway orders out to cars with complimentary bottles of wine in hand.
Owner John even writes letters and sends vouchers out to people who place large takeaway orders! It’s these little personal touches that really differentiate the place as a warm and friendly environment with genuine and authentic staff. Not to mention the food was fantastic!
We started with the prawn roti rolls. I thoroughly recommend this flavoursome dish. It was a fabulous way to begin the meal. We then shared a sizzling beef and satay prawn dish accompanied by rice and some roti with peanut sauce. I was beside myself over the deliciousness of the satay sauce. You can even buy tubs to take home and use with your cooking, apparently one lady buys six tubs a month! Bottle it and sell it I say.
The prawns were huge and perfectly cooked and the roti was sensationally flaky. Paired with a couple of stellar cocktails and we were thoroughly enjoying ourselves. We finished the meal with dessert as the traditional dish of lepat pisang appealed. This is a sweet roti dish with banana cooked in palm sugar caramel and was super yummy.
We also had to try the intriguing lychee and ginger ice cream. This sorbet like sensation is made exclusively for Jack’s by a Coburg based gelateria. It was co created after a customer request to combine her favourite flavours in a refreshing ice cream. Definitely a must try. There’s certainly a lot to love about this place
We went to Jacks over the weekend for dinner with a few friends. Had a awesome night great atmosphere and staff were terrific. I couldn’t recommend it any higher. Do yourself a favor!
Jack's is a great restaurant. We have eaten here three times in the last three months and the food is consistently of a high standard. Service is outstanding. We tried the Nonya Beef and it was delicious. Would highly recommend this restaurant!
Really good food, and super informative staff which is great for some one with dietary requirements. Been here many times and will be many more!
Jacks has all your sweet tooth cravings answered! What a delicious Asian dessert to end the night! Banana cooked in palm sugar, wrapped in roti bread and topped with vanilla icecream and palm sugar! An epic combination to end an epic meal! Such friendly staff, delicious food, and generous portions! Next time you're craving something sweet - head here!
My wife's favourite restaurant, our particular favourites roti rolls and ducksi goring, staff and atmosphere are always fantastic. As always my highest recommendation
Staff is very friendly. Food was nice although mums nasi goreng was barely warm. Beef noodles were nice but had hardly any vegies. Spring rolls and satay stick were wonderful. Was $70 for 2 entrees and 2 mains.
Must have come here about seven or eight years ago and decided that it was well over due for another visit. It was all good but the satay chicken was the best bit.
Food is fantastic
Great quality always served quick
Delicious roti rolls satay s sizzling prawns
Yum yum we love it eat in or takeaway
Been going there for 15 years SPOT ON✔️✔️
Jack's Satay Bar has been around for as long as I can remember with good reason - it's delicious! Great Laksa amount other favorites and nice service. Good for a cheeky delivery or a local nicht out
Stepped in for lunch today - delicious satay chicken and prawns! The peanut sauce was great - the chicken Roti rolls, amazing!!!! Considering today's heat - air conditioning would've made it more pleasant. Overall yummy lunch!!
Haven't been to Jack's Satay Bar for awhile, so we were really looking forward to tonight..... And we weren't disappointed! Everything was just superb.....all three courses! I think it's safe to say we rolled out of Jack's looking like roti rolls......
I been coming here for the past 3 years. Never been disappointed. The service is great, the food is good, it comes out quick
Top Malaysian place in Melbourne.
Always a good time. Very friendly owners. Good ambience and menu. Food always tastes great and comes out in a timely manner. Never had a disappointing meal here.
Amazing. Have been coming here for many years and it never ceases to satisfy! so many appealing items on the menu, prompt service, highly reccommended
Family Favourite. Family dinner nights we can't go past Jacks. Friendly service, yummy food, great atmosphere!
Amazing! Rory rolls for entree .. Ayum masuri is sensational.
Never disappoints!!. Being a local I've been coming here for years. Admittedly lots of restaurants come and go but this is the real deal stayer. Can't go by the roti rolls for entre. Flaky soft roti bread filled with chicken, satay sauce, tomato and cucumber. Quite filling so if you're planning to order a few items share. We then shared a char keow tow, still one of my favourites, and beef rendang with steamed rice. Of course more roti bread to dip into the curry sauce was essential. You might find its a little pricier than other Malaysian restaurants but the serving sizes are generous.

Great food, great ambiance. My partner and I have fallen in love with the delicious roti rolls and sizzling beef at Jacks Satay. Highly recommend the banana roti for dessert as well. Its a cosy place to chill out for the night especially with this dreary weather. Will definitely go there again!
Amazing food.. Omg....love at first bite. Food is amazing and great staff and to end it off have a coconut icecream with lychee. Definitely will be back for more.
Delicious! Staff are friendly and attentive. Food is amazing and full of flavor. Love coming to Jacks for a yummy meal
Been coming here on and off for over 10 years and never been disappointed. Recently they have a new list of specials and all I can say is delicious! Love the calamari! Glad to see this local still going strong and will definitely come back!
We recently had Jacks Satay Bar cater for a private function at home. The level of service, quality of food, and overall experience was 10/10. All 40 guests were very satisfied with all courses and it was a real conversation point throughout the night. Jacks made two separate visits throughout the evening, the first to deliver the entrees and the second to deliver mains so the quality and standard of food was not compromised. I take this opportunity to thanks the team at Jacks and all their efforts throughout the evening. If anyone is planning a cocktail reception, large gathering or just dinner for 2, i highly recommend the experience of Jacks Satay Bar.
Went to jacks on weekend for Xmas dinner with friends. Fantastic service, great atmosphere, yummy food and not too badly priced. On my list to go to again. Great to have a local restaurant that's so good, and easy to get a taxi home from.
Great entrees, esp the Panna chicken. Great selection on menu. Sizzling dishes were delicious.
Racing back. Came here during the Spring Racing Carnival and what a buzz! The place was packed full of racing people- jockeys, trainers and winners. A night I will never forget as I got to meet a few Melbourne Cup winning jockeys, while small they ate heaps and told me how much they love Jacks. It's going to be a regular place me as everything was impeccable!
Satayriffic. Enjoyed every bit of dining at Jack's, satay second to none, friendly staff and great service, will definitely be going back, in fact i have now made it 'MY' restauarant
Amazing Malaysian!!!!. My partner and I stumbled across this amazing restaurant not long after moving into the area and it has fast become one of our absolute faves and regular dining spot. The food is to die for, traditional Malaysian with a modern twist. MUST try the Roti Rolls!!! Extensive good quality wine list (at reasonable prices), friendly staff and amazing food, makes this place an absolute winner! Would not have a problem recommending to anyone! Go and enjoy!!!!
Absolutely loved it!!!. I've heard a lot about this restaurant in Moonee Ponds. Apparently it has been operating for over 24 years so thought we'd better give it a go.
WOW!!!!! we now know why they've been there for soooo long!
Can't wait to go back!!!
Been coming here for awhile now and they never fail to impress. A modern twist on Malaysian classics in a lovely environment. You may get cheaper meals elsewhere but the quality here is always top notch. The cocktails are a bargain as well. So do yourself a favour and have a fantastic dining experience!
I have no idea what Filly is talking about, my first time here as a surprise party for my birthday and everything was delicious!
I'm not a fan of food that's too spicy and the staff were very helpful, we did end up having the banquet ($45 per person) and my concern was with the Chilli Prawns. The waiter (an Aussie guy) assured me that they can lower the chilli amount, which was perfect!
We brought a few bottles of wine in ( a corkage of $7 per bottle drank) but they disappeared quickly so the girls and I moved to cocktails, I wish we started with them as the were fantastic!
The food was absolutely lovely and the staff very helpful. Will recommend to anyone wanting a great dinner, especially a birthday as no one bought a cake and the staff brought a sticky date pudding with candles and sparklers in it to make me feel special ( and embarrassed!)
Will return as soon as I can!
THANKS JACKS!!!!
Memories.... Jacks Satay Bar used to be a regular for my friends and I a few years back, and we decided to re-visit this old favourite last weekend. To our delight, not much had changed. Still the most fabulous food and staff! Let's just say I won't be waiting another few years for that Satay or the roti bread again!!!! Highly recommend this place.
Yum yum place. Had dinner with my wife. Food is awesome. Friendly services. Excellent bar person, you can order some great cocktails.
Yaaaaaaaaarm!. Loved my dinner @Jack's Satay Bar with my family. The staff were attentative and helpful and very patient with my dyslexic husband who misordered but it was no problem to rectify things. The wine list found me a new chardonnay to love (normally wine lists let me down not in this case). The Wagyu beef was to die for!!!!! And dessert I cant remember the name of but it was cooked caramel bananas in roti with icecream! Needless to say I am planning my staff dinner there soon!
Dined at Jacks Satay Bar on Saturday night. We started with the Roti Rolls, Satay Sticks, Chicken was so moist and just the right amount of zing in the sauces. Followed by with Some Oysters wow Mango sauce awesome.
Basic Goreng was a favorite anoungst the table.
Sambal Spinach was also a hit, fresh Spinach with a great chillie taste.
Last up was Beef Rendang nice bite and rich flavor. Rice & Roti bread, washed down with quite a few beers.
Great company, great food, great service. We will be back soon.
Best satay and roti ever. Roti rolls are AMAZING!
Slightly expensive though
Jack's Institution!. Have been coming to Jack's virtually since day one. Where have those 23 years gone? We dine there on a regular basis and and just love it! By far one of the best restraunts in the Mt Road strip.Staff are always first class, efficient and friendly. The food is always great. Never had any complaints. Always a pleasure to dine here. Well done John.
Amazing. We lived in Moonee Ponds for 5 years and Jacks Satay Bar was a weekly pilgrimage. Any special occasion was celebrated with family and friends at this amazing restaurant, including the night before our wedding. We have moved to Queensland and miss Jacks so much! John Ho and his staff always made us feel like royalty... Fantastic food and great service at this long standing restaurant that has passed the test of time. Our favorites were scallops bumbu, nasi goreng, Ayam Masuri, sambal spinach and on and on and on. We miss you Jacks ! Milt and Mary
