Review Leaf And Bean - Mornington

Perfect place for brunch with friends on a warm day! All day brekkie was delicious. Atmosphere is great and staff are very friendly and kind. Can't wait to come back again!

Quiet day and still a 40 minute wait for a coffee come on! Only been in once and wouldn't bother again the service was slow. The register seems to take ages whilst items are typed in and after many mouse clicks success and it then prints out 1/2m of paper. Coffee wasn't to bad but after a 40 min wait not worth it.

Never have I experienced such disgusting service in my life! The grumpy rude man behind the coffee machine (judging by his arrogance, must have been the owner!) was so extremely innappropriate in the way he spoke to my wife and myself, over requesting my coffee to be extra hot! Then we waited nearly 25 minutes for a coffee in an empty cafe!!! Terrible decor, terrible owner, terrible service, terrible food! NEVER AGAIN.

Coffee was ok, food was very average and the cleanliness of the place was questionable. Overall a bit of a dodgy feeling. One person who does all ( lunch time), makes me wonder how fresh the food is?!?!?!

Great food. Lovely atmosphere and very welcoming. Will definitely be coming back to make our way through the milkshake list

Very disappointing visit over Easter weekend......coffee came and went, waited ages for the wedges then they came out partly frozen, took them back into cafe, they handled them to see if they were cold and then the senior lady told the young girl to reheat them. Seriously?? Reheat wedges after handling them. We got our money back and left and won't go back.

Food was good, but big table we sat at was sticky and hadn't been cleaned in while.

Loved the ambiance and the relaxing jazz music. The owner John had been a gracious host.

Leaf and bean resides in the centre of Mornington township, and is both a cafe and wine bar. Upon entering, I found the ambience layback and calming, with MOR /jazz standards tracks playing gently in the background. The decor is somewhat retro and eclectic, with funky printed image table tops, upholstered black wooden chairs and stools, mottled grey painted walls with dark timber features, and a huge exposed beam part way along the dining space. The counter is backed by a lime green feature wall. The menu is varied, with pizzas, focaccia, quesadillas, quiches wraps, and a range of breakfast items. I ordered a vegetarian focaccia and coffee, and both were good. I found the service friendly and chatty, fairly casual, and efficient, and it was a pleasant venue to enjoy my lunch.

just a lovely quirky place to sit and relax - it won't suit everybody but I like it. Staff are super friendly and helpful, the place is an odd shape but the comfy sofas at the back are great around the fireplace.m just like being at home. Free wifi is great too. I'll be back to eat real soon.

What a fantastic place this is. Had the best coffee I've had in a loooooong time. Has to be the best in Mornington by a mile. Food is great too, large serves and really inexpensively priced. I had the housemate Stew which was delicious and yummy, comfy sofas and some cool tunes on the hifi and free wifi - I'm moving in!

Ordered two focaccias and sat waiting for half an hour before being informed upon asking that they had forgotten our order. No apology from the manager who didn't seem at all concerned about the horrid service.<br/><br/>Mistakes like this can never be excusable when the staff show such apathy towards their customers.

We feared this was a bad move as it was the only place we could get in at 10am on a busy Mother's Day.<br/><br/>The chilli hot chocolate arrived and looked lovely, marshmallows and a chocolate on the side. Couldn't taste ANY chilli though.<br/><br/>My fellow diners said the coffee was 'not bad'<br/><br/>The food took an age to come out. Meanwhile we watched 2 other tables of people walk out as the menu obviously didn't appeal to them...<br/><br/>I had the 'herby' scrambled eggs with cheese. Tasted of nothing until I added heaps of salt and pepper. It was only $11 but I still thought it was overpriced for the portion size. The bacon, arvo and cottage cheese roll was tasty and a huge portion.<br/><br/>I wouldn't go back as there are so many more places around.<br/><br/>Steer clear if you're not a fan of jazz.

Curious decor, I guess they like green! Coffee bland, milkshakes were a hit with the little people. The chocolate mix on the counter clearly makes a difference! Hit and miss with the sweets, most were too sweet but that is probably more my palate. Nice to see gf options. Lots of space and probably really cosy with the fire going in winter. Not my type of place but certain to be a hit with many.

Don't bother. Very over priced salad sandwich with two pieces of tomato and a stingy piece of lettuce with huge chunks of onion . Very dry and bland.

Garlic Galore. Worst pizza I've ever had, and I've had a lot of pizza. The 'zesty garlic pizza' was almost completely garlic, one mouthful of pizza contained enough garlic for the whole pizza. Didn't think it was possible to screw up a garlic pizza so badly, the 2cm layer of garlic was then topped with cheese and olives, still not sure why there were olives? I then proceeded to scrape all the topping off in an attempt to save the $17 I paid for garlic, but the base was hardly pizza worthy and was of course garlic infused. Don't eat here unless you like wasting money and time!

What a poor excuse for a coffee shop!!! Such rude staff that clearly don't want to be there!! Also if your going to run a coffee shop at least learnt how to make a decent frappe! It wasn't even drinkable, returned and asked to make again, only to be served the same crap.....

AVOID - waste of time - rude staff. Went for a couple of lunchtime coffees and focaccia sandwiches... the place was at most 20% full, plenty of staff - who seemed to be creeping around en masse like zombies from the Walking Dead...the owner was there throughout indifferent to the despicable customer service his business has the audacity to ask money for - coffee took 10 minutes and was very poor... the focaccias still weren't served after 45 minutes so we asked the staff at the counter about this to which the chef made ignorant remarks about how busy they were - we asked for a refund for the focaccia's that never turned up and escaped after having our lunchtime wasted by this time wasting hideous cafe.<br/><br/>Went across the road to another cafe and got two coffees and fococcias in 4 minutes.<br/><br/>Avoid the Leaf and Bean unless you want your time utterly and ignorantly wasted, read the other reviews this is obviously this business's standard disgraceful service.

Brian. I grew up in the hospitality industry, and know how hard it is, so am reluctant to be critical, but our experience here was very disappointing. Yes, it was Melbourne Cup day and there are difficulties getting staff to work on holidays, but if you know you're going to be short staffed, close off some tables, and only serve the numbers you can cope with. Morning ton Main St rents are exorbitant, but trying to cash in on a busy day with inadequate staff is not going to help your reputation. We waited an hour for our food, with no explanation and no apology. We then asked for a refund, at which point we were told our food was now ready. It wasn't. We still had to wait a further seven minutes, at which point the food was delivered with a perfunctory apology. The food itself was mediocre. The "Moroccan" focaccia had very little flavour. As I said, I don't like being critical, and I am used to slow and indifferent service in Melbourne, but the number of other critical reviews suggest that our experience is not unique, and this place really needs to up its game if it is to survive.

Incredibly disappointing both food and service; the waitress was extremely rude, when questioned if there was inside seating she abruptly told us to 'go look yourself'. The food was average and could have been made to a better standard by myself in my own kitchen. Don't waste your money!
Joshua
Very friendly staff! And a .... Very friendly staff! And a<br/>Nice imported beer. Nice to chill on the side walk and judge the locals

APPALING. The English gentleman who served us was a grumpy old man who shouldn't be in hospitality. The food was disgusting and took forever to get to our table. Terrible place and I wouldn't eat there again if it was the last place on earth.
Pixie
Disgusting, waste of good hard earned money. Don't bother going
Mindy
Disappointing. They forgot our order of one focaccia, after 45 mins of waiting.<br/>Three different staff members were aware of our order but didn't think to follow it up. All on a quiet afternoon. Staff need further training. Food was average & 'zesty leaf & bean salad' was a tiny pile of grated carrot with one olive.

Long wait times and terrible coffee. stick to Coffee Traders across the street.
Michael Gazdowicz
We sat down and ordered food and coffees and was told 25 min coffees came out at the 30 min mark and food 70 min later. Would not bother again.

Good coffee, good food, keep up the good work.<br/><br/>All this negativity from these beach bums should go get a job first before posting here, you live in beach bush, get some education first, you won't survive in the big world.
Agatha
Love it. Fantastic love the coffee and there gluten free fudge so goood

Leave & Scream. Should have consulted Urbanspoon first. The coffee, which arrived 20 minutes before the "food", was weak and warm. The "pate and turkish toast with antipasto" plate, at $18, arrived without a magnifying glass, which would have been helpful. The pate was a congealed, sloppy goo that looked inedible and didn't improve on the palate. Best left alone, which we did. The antipasto consisted of three olives, and a similar number of jalapeno slices and semi-dried tomatoes. We were too much in shock to complain and walked out.

Good food, good coffee, open late.<br/>Great place.

I am not one to write reviews about places, but the Leaf and Bean is an exception! And not a good exception! I have never received such terrible service as I did there, rude, arrogant, abrupt service from what appeared to be a grumpy sour owner. Burnt milk coffee, watery, not worth the 25 min wait!!! Will never be back, and I will be sure to spread the word!

My wife and I ordered breakfast and mine came promptly but before my coffee and my wife's banana bread came but no yoghurt about 20 minutes later my wife went back to complain and was told by the wait staff who were making sandwiches they forgot and would get it straight away another 15 minutes later it came. Basically a bowl of yoghurt with frozen berries that spent a minute in the microwave. The waitress said sorry but they had a crazy morning. The place was dead when we arrived and had one more table arrive while we were there. Food was average at best. The service was appalling. Do the owners of businesses like this not care about their good name.

Could be so much better. We decided to try this cafe. I have never seen Devonshire teas served with runny, single cream Devonshire cream is thick and it stays on the scone. The tea was so weak in spite of the silly "egg timers" to time the brewing. What gave you that idea.? I would say with confidence you and your staff have never run a food out let before. Ready made packaged sandwiches in a display fridge do not make a Cafe. not sure what image you are trying to create . will not return.

As it's name suggests, Leaf and Bean doesn't lack a thing.. Mornington has a very strong cafe culture, it's the kind of town that can support so many little local coffe shops (and a Gloria Jeans) all along the one street and last Summer I spent my free time trying them all out, putting them to the test. Today there is only one that I venture to come rain, hail or shine ( and in Melbourne it's mostly the former) and that is Leaf and Bean (barring Mondays of course when I'm forced to venture elsewhere or die of thirst, but no more, the store staying open seven days from now on).<br/><br/>This will mark the fixing of the one flaw that I have found in the place, for otherwise it has everything that I could want: great tasting, prompt and well prepared coffee that the owner will more than happily chat to you about in depth if prompted, happy smiling service with a 'hello' and 'goodbye' every time and plenty of space to relax, read, chat or soak the atmosphere in from. It's the complete cafe experience consistently whereas the competition can only offer two out of three at best.<br/><br/>Leaf & Bean isn't just a place that brings me back again and again on different days, it's one that gets me going up to the counter to order another ( thankfully then it's also affordable) so that I can sit a little longer and stretch out my stay.

Learn first. Before opening a cafe one should know how to make a good coffee. Puh lease. Take some lessons man. <br/>Sorry to be so nasty but the truth should be known.
Roy
Avoid. Very, very ordinary to say the least. With so many good eateries in Mornington there is no need to eat there.

Keep Walking. Unfortunately, I ate at Leaf & Bean today. Flat pre-made focaccia with no lettuce or tomato added. A beige focaccia on a white plate with white napkins and not even a bit of parsley for colour.<br/>Garlic bread was a roll with four-five slits on top with bottled garlic shoved down the slits with butter. The waitress did not even know they sold garlic bread let alone make it.<br/>Food was nice but lacked substance and the coffee was coffee, go to Gloria Jeanes up the road instead diner's.
Craig Cole
Having to wait nearly 15 minutes just to get a black coffee really is a poor show !!!
Bryan
Great staff chic venue the food needs abit more of a step up instead of Chiken pieces in focaccia use of chicken breast schintzel Would have been better. All round great venue with again Awesome staff

DISCUSTING. My Son and I thought we'd try their " World famous" Toasted Foccacia's. Big Mistake!!!! The BLT was pre made I'm guessing a month ago. The lettuce was a slimy greeny brown mess, which I scraped off . I managed to eat half but left feeling hungry and needed to eat something else to get the taste out of my mouth.

No good. May as well go to Gloria jeans, because the coffee here is the generic rubbish they sell down at the supermarket.
