Rating 4.0 A Little Trip through Italy indeed! A great 4 course plus antipasti to take you through some classic flavours of Italy. It’s pot luck on the antipasti with what you end up with. We had the Parmesan cracker & cold tomato soup. Not normally a fan of Parmesan nor cold soup, but the creamy foam soup were packed with flavours, sweet spicy tomatoes rather then tangy. My favourite of the night was the Tomato tagliolini – scarlet prawns – almond – chives, great bisque base to bring everything together. The charcoal wagyu and the veal tonnato were also great. We also got the added scanner crab risotto, although looking striking served in the crab shelf, the rice were not cooked enough, we could’ve done without it. Overall, a really great meal with lovely views.

My partner and I have here for my birthday and ordered the taste of Italy degustation. The food was incredibly unique, rich and aesthetic. My favourite was the truffle pasta which was decadent and a real treat. Great service as well.

Had the most gorgeous birthday dinner here last week. The food was exquisite, both in flavour and presentation. We had the 8 course degustation menu which is aptly called "A Trip through Italy". Each dish is from a different region in Italy and combines traditional flavours with modern twists. My absolute favourite was the Battuta di manzo - the flavours and texturs were outstanding. Also loved the Cavoietti di Bruxelle with the walnut hollandaise.
The ambience is very relaxing, warm and casual. It made me feel very relaxed and right at home. Not too fancy and too uptight.
The service was great, we loved the wine suggestions from the sommelier. Our seating(excluding coffee) took almost 4 hours - the portions are small but by the end we were completely full.
My only gripe was that despite making a reservation in advance and requesting a window seat, we were seated in the middle even though there were a couple of tables free by window.

Love the service and the truffle dishes.
Booked a late lunch here. Although we were not get the spot we want but lucky to move to the widow seat once it’s available. This didn’t happen to us in other bayview restaurant. Dish recommend from staff is helpful.
Will recommend this place to friends.

We tried the little trip to Italy tasting menu. High light of the night was the cod, I really liked that one, different layers of flavors. My husband liked the beef tartare, kingfish taco very much. Only thing I think that can be improved was that some of the dishes were a little bit too salty, eg. cappuccino soup and one stuffed pasta dish. Service was good too. Great fine dining experience.

One of the best choices for The Fork festival 2019, although they also do cheaper 5 course dinner on Sunday nights throughout the year. Very Italian take on fine dining, intense savoury flavours in every dish, if you don't like salty food this place probably isnt for you. Unlike your typical French-style fine dining which emphasises balance and textures, the food here is quite heavy with some really rich and dominant flavours.

They also offer a truffle menu throughout Winter, as well as the option to add shaved truffle onto every dish for $20. However the execution of the truffle menu is extremely lazy. There is no truffle infusion of any sort, which is a waste as there's a lot of creamy sauces and oils that could greatly benefit from the flavour. Last year they had an optional Tagliolini dish which had a truffle sauce, which was exceptional, but this year it is just their regular Bottoni stuffed with truffle and pecorino. Even with shaved truffle on top the pecorino flavour is too dominant and barely any truffle can be tasted. Also the menu doesnt seem to have changed much after 1 whole year, which is unusual for a restaurant like this and inhibits repeat visits.

Great experience and location but I feel this restaurant still has a lot of potential.

We had a wonderful and very long lunch at Ormeggio. Our seating took a full four hours without coffee, which is obviously on the slow side, but suited the relaxed vibe of the restaurant. The food was beautiful and creative, which you would expect of a restaurant at this price point. The risotto and lamb in particular were lovely.

If you are going on a very hot day, you may not want to be seated right on the water edge as it was quite warm but on any other day I would highly recommend the water edge as the view is beautiful.

The only negatives were the price (very expensive) and the speed of the service. Otherwise this is a perfect restaurant for a special occasion.

Bonus points for being very accommodating of a pregnant woman’s dietary requirements.

Came here for lunch and we were seated by the water. The view is amazing especially during summer however it was abit difficult finding parking since it was located on such a busy road.

We had the signature dishes, they chose their most popular dishes over the years and I can certainly see why. I enjoyed the veal tartare and lamb dish the most! The pasta was a really strong burst of flavour if you really enjoy Parmesan!!

Started out here on the later side of the evening and I must say it was the Best 3 hour meal ever!! We were never rushed even though it was close to midnight. The place, view and service was outstanding not to even mention the food!!

The food was unbelievable. Everything had a super kick and was so tasty and delicious. I would definitely recommend it as one of Sydney’s best dining experiences.

We booked on a Wednesday night via a monthly Dimmi 50% special. Arrived at the venue at 730. Was promptly shown our table by the waterside with a glimmering view of the Spit Bridge.

After we were seated, we were shown the drinks menu. The wait staff was very patient as we went over their listing but decided to stay with water in the end.

The maître d' then came over to present to us the menu for the night explaining to us all the various courses and specials that they had. He then presented us with a wooden box, within it was an enormous black truffle resting on a cream coloured cloth. It was the first time I had been this up close and personal with a truffle of this size. The aroma was captivating. He detailed the dishes in the truffle special (it is truffle season, after all). While we were extremely tempted by the truffles course we felt it would be too much truffle for us so we opted to add the handmade tagliolini with Australian black truffle to our six course dinner.

The highlight dishes of the night was most definitely the Handmade Tagliolini with truffle and pecorino sauce. The combination was amazing! The taste and smell of the truffle stayed with me throughout the night. The pecorino truffle sauce clung onto the tagliolini and every bite was so delicious. It was worth coming just for the dish alone. The charcoal Wagyu was a very nice and tender cut of beef cooked perfectly and the bottoni filled with parmigiano reggiano was a delightful surprise.

I enjoyed the two dessert dishes okay, the almond sorbet with date could have been a little sweeter and the pear sorbet with dark chocolate and crushed hazelnut could have been a little less bitter but it's more a matter of personal taste.

All in all, the service and food was excellent. The restaurant is had a warm, lovely and quiet atmosphere, decorated in a minimalist feel so there's nothing to distract you from the view, the food and the person next to you. They even gave us complimentary bites towards the end as we were about to leave. Was totally unexpected but was a very nice touch indeed.

Have dined at the gorgeous Ormeggio many times over the past ten years, and I must say this place never fails to please! On a whim, my partner decides to take me out to dinner and as we are driving past he announces “Let’s go there!” For most, it seems like careful planning has gone into the dining experience so luckily we called from the car park to find the last table still available!

Chose the 5 course menu which was just sheer perfection from start to finish. Parmigiano-reggiano chip, cold mussels and an escalivada taco to whet the appetite. A very moorish olive and rosemary bread straight out of the oven, yellowfin tuna crudo, bottoni filled with more Parmigiano-reggiano w roasted barley malt and then melt in the mouth charcoal wagyu w fermented black garlic.

What Alessandro Pavoni doesn't about fine food and wine quite frankly, is not worth knowing. Dessert was a very light dark chocolate with textures of pear and hazelnut. Delicious! For those wanting a little bit more...a signature cheese box with condiments for 2 is also on offer.

Ormeggio at the Spit is a two hatted restaurant located at the Spit in Mosman and serves up high quality Italian food with modern twists. They are most famous for their ‘trip through Italy’ degustation which takes diners on a flavour journey across Italy, sampling dishes influenced by different regions in Italy, and it was this degustation menu that we enjoyed one lunchtime to celebrate our anniversary.

Ormeggio At The Spit
13th December 2017

I thoroghly enjoyed everything tonight; it was one of those rare evenings when damn near everything came together perfectly!

1. Parmesan chip

2. Egg yolk alla carbonara
- amazing!

3. Veal tonnato

4. Olive and rosemary sourdough
- packing some flavour

5. Grilled asparagus with apple gel, sweet corn dip, pine nut puree and coffee crumbles
- at peak freshness, perfectly cooked, the sweet corn dip was intensely flavoured and the coffee crumbles were extraordinary
(served with cold-pressed apple, celery, cucumber, spinach)

6. Kingfish crudo with buttermilk, pumpkin, sumac, chive flower, bronze fennel
- clean, distinct flavours
(served with cold-pressed watermelon, strawberry, black garlic, black pepper)

7. Spanner crab with tagliolini, tomato, hazelnut shavings and chives
- oh my word the hazelnut shavings took this dish to another level
(served with orange and fennel kombucha)

8. Charcoal wagyu tri-tip, red onion puree, black garlic dip and pickled daikon
- packed full of real meat flavour while still being tender, the red onion dip was sweet and full of flavour, the black garlic deep was soothing and comforting, and the pickled daikon added crunchiness and sharpness to cut through the richness
(served with cold-pressed carrot, pumpkin, thyme)

9. Charcoal lamb rump with black garlic dip, goat cheese, pimento puree and crumbed olives
- I went through this past Spring having been unable to taste a perfect lamb dish, but here it is, at the start of summer! The crumbed olives were just WOW and everything on the dish danced Zorba The Greek together!
(served with pear and cinnamon kombucha)

10. Mandarin sorbet with citrus fruit salad
- a simple pre-dessert
(served with lemon barley)

11. Coconut pannacotta, sponge cake, ice cream
- an intensely impressive coconut- flavoured sponge cake!
(served with mango kombucha)

12. Mascarpone chip

13. Santiago tart (almond cake)
- delicious
(served with chamomile tea)

Had the ormeggio signature set menu, which was pretty average. My favorite among the food that we had was the last course which was the carrot cake because it was very well balanced, was not too sweet, had abit of crunch in it as well, and the fennel ice cream was superb.

Some of the food, such as the bottoni and cod was a bit too salty for me. Not a fan of tartared meat, so the veal was my least favorite. The wagyu beef was pretty good, love the cabbage though.

Even though the food was okay, the view was excellent.

We've been longing for an excuse to go back to Ormeggio, after an exceptional first visit (see bottom). This place had it all, the taste, creativity, plating, and atmosphere. On our second visit, we got the "Long trip through Italy', which is a 12 course degustation for $175 pp. Each course is inspired by a region in Italy.

We had lunch at Ormeggio a few months ago, so my recollection is somewhat hazy. What I do remember though is the mindblowing bottoni – tiny buttons of pasta exploding with a cheesy broth interior. The experience is almost like eating a xiao long bao. But instead it’s an umami-heavy parmigiano reggiano soup within the pasta. Oh lordy, it was one of the best things I ate in 2016. Plus that freaking incredible cheese box. The idea of matching cheese with a type of bread and different kinds of dried fruit or fruit paste makes so much sense to me. And did I mention it’s served in a custom-made box with tiny drawers? What a revelation. I need one.

We had the 7 course with wine matching and had a great night. Nicely plated dishes, great service, 5 out of 7 dishes were fantastic, 2 (suckling pig and the cold spaghetti) I could've passed on with the pork being slightly over cooked and extremely I mean extremely salty and the cold spaghetti was taken out a tad too early and wasn't quite al dente and was slightly undercooked however, the Buitoni was cooked al dente and was amazing. Both desserts were really nice and again the service was great. The view and location was also a plus :)

Why worry about Monday when you can have a Stressless Sunday? That's the premise at Ormeggio at the Spit, where you can have a six course dinner for $79. Amazing value for a two hatted restaurant. The beautiful view of Mosman Bay is not bad either. The menu changes each week, depending on what seasonal produce is on offer. We started with some Sourdough and whipped ricotta with a sprinkling of chives. It's good quality sourdough, served warm and the whipped ricotta was a great alternative to butter.

The word 'spit' is an unnecessary visualization accompanied with an air of disgust, so when I hear a restaurant's location ‘at the Spit’, the first thought that comes to mind isn't fine dining. . Low and behold, Ormeggio sits just there in one of the most inconvenient locations to a non-local, before the moving temperamental bridge with not a single turn off beforehand to save you if you miss the spot.

Chef Allesandro Pavoni has consistently offered modern Italian culinary dishes which still echo the best of the northern regions of Italy.  His base of creativity and culinary delight is also iconic, near the Spit Bridge, in one of lower North Shore Sydney's most coveted spots, blessed by panoramic scenery, easy access from the city centre and yet offering diners a wonderful refuge from city life.I could see the vehicular traffic across the Spit Bridge from our table.    My group of three  was pretty looking forward to an evening of a surprise menu offering, willingly open to what the Chef had in mind, whim and seasonal produce  - instead of being subject to a regularly repeated menu.   It was a five course affair, a starter, two mains and closed by two dessert items - the Stressless Sunday Dinner! The greet staff set the engaging tone, and before very course dish, we were explained to in gusto and detail as to what we were about to discover, saviour and experience.   I must say it was not a degustation, with more than ample servings of each offering.  I absolutely loved the Prawn Tartare, garnished by parsley oil, presented in a white plate which displayed an exquisite placing of ingredients.  At the other end of the spectrum for us that evening was the Risotto flavoured with pumpkin, highlighted by Parmesan and graced with balsamic vinegar  - in this instance the Risotto itself had a harder texture than I appreciated.   Apart from that, we also had King George Whiting, Granita with Lemoncelli and a sweet dessert utilising Ricotta.    The organic sourdough was terrific as an opener - the Bagna Cauda - accompanied by an anchovy based dip.Lighting in the restaurant was heavily subdued which can contribute to the ambiance  - here we were, huddled around our sole table lamp, and the scene is repeated across the sizeable dining area.    I did not feel as if I am placed on planks above water (Ormeggio refers to moorings in Italiano ) - and the washrooms are a delight, with careful and thoughtful touches of luxury and accessory.  I must say it was not easy for first timers to find the way to the restaurant entrance, as currently there is much renovation work surrounding the Ormeggio,   Once inside, we are embraced by vistas of the marinas, Sydney Middle Harbour and Pearl Bay.    Tables are tastefully separated by a good measure of personal space and this is appreciated.   As the evening wore on to close the weekend, more and more diners turned up as we commenced our visit early on a winter's evening when sunset was just after 5pm,  but it had indeed been a relatively welcoming warm night.Sommelier Jeremy Croft directs the wine list at the Ormeggio, with choices that take a diner through the various wine growing regions of Italy, a rather unique experience. The Ormeggio visited is located at the D'Albora Marinas, The Spit, Mosman NSW, with paid parking available on the same side of the Marinas.   Opening hours are from 6pm to 10pm on Wednesdays; from 12 noon to 3pm and from 6pm to 10pm on Thursdays and Fridays; from 12 noon to 3pm and from 530pm to 10pm on Saturdays; and from 12 noon to 3pm and from 6pm to 10pm on Sundays.Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.Contact +61 2 9969 4088My impressions of the Ormeggio at the Spit Bridge, Mosman NSW:Ambiance:  4 out of 5

I picked the set menu for lunch and my experience was absolutely wonderful. The place looked very simple but warm and casual. It made me feel very relaxed and right at home. Not too fancy and too uptight. The ambience is very relaxing.

The food is very Italian, in a good way that is. One of my favorite is their squid ink pasta and the beef tartare. The beef tartare is placed on a sea shell like plate and the cutting is diced perfectly. The squid ink is one of the best squid ink I've ever had in Sydney. That one is a pasta to remember indeed. The service was lovely and I got an e-mail to become a VIP Birthday member. I am very satisfied with everything Ormeggio has to offer.

We came here a week after Mother's Day on Saturday for a large family lunch and enjoyed the 8 course "Trip Through Italy" degustation with matching wines ($195 per person). While this wasn't the best fine dining restaurant I've been to, and while the view wasn't spectacular and of the harbour bridge or the Opera House, it was quite good. I'd recommend coming here if you're looking for a fancy but relaxed atmosphere, with not too much noise and good, different tasting and interesting looking food. Be warned though, you always have to book probably at least 2 weeks in advance if you want to come here on a Sunday because it is always, always booked out.

The food is good, albeit not amazing. However, the effort and thought put into crafting these recipes makes them both unique and very, very beautiful. The courses were all light but by the end of it I was satisfied, not stuffed. My favourite part of the meal was this interesting looking green soup that I thought I'd hate, but was actually delicious - it's a shame there wasn't more of it haha.

The staff are also wonderful - they explain every course, what's in it, the story behind it and the town in Italy the inspiration originated from.

While I probably wouldn't come here again (I don't think that entire meal was worth the price), this was a good experience and I'll put it under the heading of: Nice Fine Dining Restaurants You Might Want To Experience Once.

Beautiful decor and fantastic food. It sure is a Hidden gem.
I've been to Ormeggio on a number of occasions and it rarely disappoints.
The restaurant is beautiful, the view and the boats have a calming affect as though you have all the time in the world to take in and submerse yourself in the experience.
I would recommend the 3+ courses so that you can try a selection from their gourmet menu.
We had the tuna & cheese and tuna tartare as the appetizer (apologies if I've done no justice for the names of the dishes), trout and lamb ravioli for our entree, slow cooked steak, sweet prawn & pea risotto for our mains and the raspberry sorbet and chocolate cake for dessert.
All dishes were quite spectacular, though I wasn't a huge fan of the pea risotto - might be due to the fact that I don't like peas but am in search for the perfect risotto.
Both desserts were delicious, the chocolate cake was pleasant and not overly sweet but I would have to say the tangy raspberry sorbet was my favourite.
I do wonder why Ormeggio is not mentioned more on review sites as it has a lot going for it, it is one hidden gem.
Would I go back? Yes most definitely!

Our experience at Ormeggio for their Stressless Sunday dinner was great. It was fun not knowing ahead of time what the menu was and we were impressed with most dishes (my photos really don't do them justice). The cod baccala was my personal favourite, I could've eaten two bowls of that. The rich, strong flavors were complemented by the jumble of textures from the creamy baccala to the crunchy croutons. Dessert was the other highlight. The yuzu sorbet provided a refreshing contrast to the chocolate crumbs and it was a perfect ending to a delicious meal. We also had a delicate pork terrine, a pressed brick of soft pulled lamb (a tad overseasoned for me) and a risotto which was the weakest of the series (it wasn't bad, just not memorable). Ormeggio clearly has a good handle on the food front but it was the service that elevated the experience. Our waiters were consummate professionals, blending the right amount of humour and conversation without being stuffy. With staff like them, it's easy see why Ormeggio draws the crowds.

Saturday arrives and after a delicious yet over indulgent Thursday dinner with the team from work it is with no small effort that Mookie drags me off to coffee at our favourite barista, Forsyths Coffee & Tea, in Naremburn, in the North Shore in Sydney, for a much needed “direct to vein” injection of caffeine. Well maybe not so direct, but I certainly feel a lot better after a cup of their award-winning coffee. I find myself frequently buying coffee at other places just to compare. Revitalised, we head off down Military Road to The Spit to partake again (the second time this year and fifth time all up) of the delights that are Ormeggio. Parking is easy and a short stroll along the bay is pleasant before finding the entrance to the restaurants (Ormeggio and al Fresco delight – Chiosco) temporarily moved due to a significant renovation. No matter, as it’s the view out from the restaurant that is special not the view walking in.

Ormeggios at the Spit breathes new life into traditional Italian dishes that your Nonna used to make. Sensational presentation and breathtaking marina views, Ormeggios did not disappoint in any way. The wait staff were highly trained and attentive, and took us through our 'trip through Italy' with finesse. Highly recommend the degustation 'trip through Italy'. Immaculate presentation of each meal and interesting takes on different meals including 'tomato and basil'. The 'Apple Strudel' was my favorite; a light, yet sweet arrangement playing on the ever popular apple strudel. A big mention to the oysters with lime granita- hands down best oysters I've had. Fine food and great wine matchings ensured a great night, and a definite return is on the cards.

We tried the Stressless Sunday 5 course meal which was good but not overly exceptional. For $70 per person, I expected more pazazz.

The portions were quite small, and some dishes as previously mentioned lacked the wow factor which was expected. The dishes were still however, quite tasty.

In addition to this, the service was absolutely wonderful, views were beautiful and the atmosphere was great. We came here for a family member's birthday celebration, and the waiters did a lovely job bringing out the dessert whilst joyfully singing happy birthday.

I may possibly come back here for a casual lunch during the day to bask in the beautiful ambiance and views.

Beautiful restaurant overlooking the waters. Best to come on a nice sunny day.

Best to avoid Sunday lunch menu as its more expensive than any other day. Tasting menu increase by almost $30pp. I learnt it the hard way.

Otherwise, definitely a restaurant worth trying.

The waiters didn't clear the table of bread crumbs till the very end, we had to ask for sparkling water to be refilled, tap water was poured into our purchased sparkling water, and the waiter wiped the food dish with the food on it in front of the us. These really are nitpicks, and are only really being mentioned with the typical 'fine dining' expectations in mind. All this said, the waiters were genuinely welcoming and friendly blokes trying their best. Will be back for the full eight course degustation.

Went here last week and was blown away! Had the degustation and every course was more stunning than the next and the wine advice that came with it was excellent and unpretentious.

It's not cheap so don't expect much change out of $150 per head unless you skip the wine or only have one or two courses (but why would you?!). Would love to check out again during the day or in summer.

Amazing, must try. Degustation is always the highest standard and delights every-time. Freshest ingredients transformed into enchanting dishes while you gaze out over the water. Great spot with excellent food, what more could you want!

The new season menu is awesome... Can't go past the 8 course degustation and we loved being able to dine on a Wednesday! Amazing service with witty and knowledgeable staff, everything synced and worked well.

I went to Ormeggio over the weekend for an anniversary lunch with my boyfriend. We had the five course 'sapori' lunch.

Pluses included:

- The food was lovely and inventive. Out of the five courses we enjoyed everything. My boyfriend who doesn't eat pumpkin even enjoyed the pumpkin that came with the wagyu course.

- The extra dishes. Raw veal entree, bread, beginning snack (cicchetti), petit fours. By the end of the meal we were definitely full!

- The location, on the marina at Mosman. The restaurant is right on the water.

- The value. I think it was $85 for the five courses, which is great value for a fine dining restaurant.

However, there were a few minuses- in particular a service incident at the end of the meal which marred our whole experience.

The minuses

- The service incident. Generally the service was fine, not amazing but quite good. However, when our waitress served our petit fours one of the truffles rolled onto the table. She said "Opps" and then walked off. We waited, thinking she was coming back. We finished our other desserts- still nothing. We finally had to call over another waitress who immediately brought us a new truffle. I know this might seem small, but to me this is basic service that you would get at any cafe, let alone a fine dining restaurant.

The table next to us also seemed to have a small service incident when staff forgot to apply a $100 gift card to their bill- they seemed miffed when staff did not apologise for the mistake. We also got no apology.

When booking I also requested a window seat as it was our anniversary. This request unfortunately wasn't able to be fulfilled and no staff made any mention of our anniversary. At other fine dining restaurants such as Tetsuyas, we've been given an extra dessert course on our anniversary. It is those little touches that make the difference.

- The decor. I know this is personal, but to me the decor seemed like it was someone's lounge room rather than a fine dining restaurant. You also need to walk through a boat shop to get to the restaurant and the restaurant's toilets are the shared public toilets for the marina. In general, not a very polished atmosphere.

Overall, I would go back for the food and value. Its a venue for a nice lunch but I wouldn't really book it again for a special occasion.

Delicious food. Pros: Staff were very professional and the six course was delicious! Great views of the water.
Cons: toilet outside of the restaurant. They did ask for our credit card details to charge $50 for cancellation..but only if you cancel in the last minute.

Majolini Winery sits on the northeastern border of Franciacorta and is built upon the hilly area of Valle. The winery borrows from the vernacular of old farm houses and local building traditions and it is in the soil, climate of the region in which Majolini’s vineyards and grapes are grown. Simone Maoilini from Majolini is in town to showcase the wine range and we head up to the very scenic spit up in Mosman for a food and wine pairing at the hatted Ormeggio at the Spit. Alex Pavoni was also on hand to walk us through the menu Ormeggio had curated to pair with the Majolini wines. Its amazing food and delicious wines, you really can’t ask for more. Ormeggio is also currently the only restaurant in Sydney serving up Majolini although you are able to order these excellent Italian wines online Here Simone Maoilini’s a third generation winemaker and this was his first visit to Sydney. Amazing Autumn weather for wine and lunch. Majolini’s Brut is a nice dry bubbly with a crisp finish. Ormeggio bakery organic warm sourdough – homemade whipped ricotta.  We’ve had some amazing breads around Sydney. There’s Rockpool ‘s, Cafe Paci ‘s. And then there was this. Rice + paprika chip, sour cream  with the Majolini Brut

As expected, the service is excellent. Our waiter is quick to refill our cup, unassuming and appropriately frequent in his visits, enquiring as to the reason for our visit this evening – for many patrons a visit to Ormeggio is a celebration. The courses are served by different waitresses, who take turns verbally deconstructing the plates presented to us. This is actually a good thing – Ormeggio is the kind of place where menu items are listed as ingredients only, with the actual form and texture of the dish left as a dazzling surprise for its recipients.

To me there’s something about fine dining with spontaneity that makes the occasion more memorable than if you book weeks out. On a recent sunny Sunday, to my surprise, I reserved a table for two at Ormeggio with only three hours of notice. And what an unplanned treat it turned out to be. We arrived at Ormeggio a little early and were offered drinks at the bar during the short wait for our table. This gave me an opportunity to take a walk around the marina and soak in the stunning setting. Ormeggio at The Spit is, not surprisingly, located at The Spit in Mosman. There’s plenty of parking just outside or take one of the many buses that head in that direction.  Once inside most tables offer views of the harbour, Seaforth mansions and boats of all shapes and sizes. On a sunny day you can’t beat feasting alongside Sydney’s sparkling blue harbour at a spot like Ormeggio. Ormeggio’s Executive Chef Alessandro Pavoni started his career in the north of Italy and went on to work in a Michelin sta

The charcoal wagyu beef with pickled beetroot and smoked potato is on the cards and it really looks splendid. The wagyu is encased with the smokiness of the charcoaled outer coating which adds to the intensity of the dish and provides some crisp texture to a succulent dish. The wagyu is soft and tears easily and gives a rich oily ooze of flavours and juices on the tongue. This is paired with sweet and mild tartness of the pickled beetroot, the soft creamy beetroot puree and the potato cream which has a light hint of garlic. It’s such a beautiful dish and an exquisite example of culinary brilliance.

Lunch was a lovely slow and scenic journey through a range of flavours and cooking styles, with some leaning towards classic Italian and others more a fusion of Modern Australian. There was octopus cooked sous vide at 85C for 4 hours, a Flinders Island wallaby buttata (or tartare), and tortelli filled with wonderfully smokey burnt eggplant.

Wasn’t it a lucky day for the Northside when the lovely Alessandro and Anna Pavoni decided they’d set up camp there? This tranquil, modern Italian fine diner is, literally, on the water, and a very pleasant spot to have a long lazy lunch or an intimate dinner.

How incredible does that sound? This dish is a spin on traditional veal tonnato, which is cooked veal served with that heavenly sauce. Ormeggio’s spin is to serve it raw, as tartare. The results are as incredible as the dish is beautiful. Due to the tonnato, there’s no pretenses with the sauce’s powerful, tuna-based flavour. It’s almost like eating tuna but with the raw goodness and texture of veal. It’s godly, it’s delicious. To boot, there’s also a bit of crunchiness brought in with the horseradish and toasted pine nuts.

Somewhere romantic, still, with good food and a nice view to linger over. Ormeggio at The Spit ticked all the boxes. Ormeggio is a two hated contemporary Italian restaurant with a stunning waterside setting in Mosman. It is said that the Italian chef and owner, Alessandro Pavoni, with his team of chefs boast 39 Michelin stars between them. That is certainly reflected in their offering of exciting dishes. We started with a warm rye sourdough that has the crunchiest crust and we knew we are in good hands.

One of the most beautiful risottos I’ve ever eaten. Cooked to perfection, the rice had a wonderful texture and bite to it. There was a huge hit of tomato from the tomato consomme followed by aromatic basil and creamy mozzarella. Quite the opposite of my dish with its big punchy flavours but I loved them both in their own right.

On Sunday it's degustation only and it also means that you don't really know what you're going to get. No menu, you see. Once the kitchen is informed of any aversions or allergies that may apply to you, they choose from their current pool of dishes and tailor it to each table.
