Rating 4.0 A Little Trip through Italy indeed! A great 4 course plus antipasti to take you through some classic flavours of Italy. It’s pot luck on the antipasti with what you end up with. We had the Parmesan cracker & cold tomato soup. Not normally a fan of Parmesan nor cold soup, but the creamy foam soup were packed with flavours, sweet spicy tomatoes rather then tangy. My favourite of the night was the Tomato tagliolini – scarlet prawns – almond – chives, great bisque base to bring everything together. The charcoal wagyu and the veal tonnato were also great. We also got the added scanner crab risotto, although looking striking served in the crab shelf, the rice were not cooked enough, we could’ve done without it. Overall, a really great meal with lovely views.
My partner and I have here for my birthday and ordered the taste of Italy degustation. The food was incredibly unique, rich and aesthetic. My favourite was the truffle pasta which was decadent and a real treat. Great service as well.
Had the most gorgeous birthday dinner here last week. The food was exquisite, both in flavour and presentation. We had the 8 course degustation menu which is aptly called "A Trip through Italy". Each dish is from a different region in Italy and combines traditional flavours with modern twists. My absolute favourite was the Battuta di manzo - the flavours and texturs were outstanding. Also loved the Cavoietti di Bruxelle with the walnut hollandaise.
The ambience is very relaxing, warm and casual. It made me feel very relaxed and right at home. Not too fancy and too uptight.
The service was great, we loved the wine suggestions from the sommelier. Our seating(excluding coffee) took almost 4 hours - the portions are small but by the end we were completely full.
My only gripe was that despite making a reservation in advance and requesting a window seat, we were seated in the middle even though there were a couple of tables free by window.
Love the service and the truffle dishes.
Booked a late lunch here. Although we were not get the spot we want but lucky to move to the widow seat once it’s available. This didn’t happen to us in other bayview restaurant. Dish recommend from staff is helpful.
Will recommend this place to friends.
We tried the little trip to Italy tasting menu. High light of the night was the cod, I really liked that one, different layers of flavors. My husband liked the beef tartare, kingfish taco very much. Only thing I think that can be improved was that some of the dishes were a little bit too salty, eg. cappuccino soup and one stuffed pasta dish. Service was good too. Great fine dining experience.
One of the best choices for The Fork festival 2019, although they also do cheaper 5 course dinner on Sunday nights throughout the year. Very Italian take on fine dining, intense savoury flavours in every dish, if you don't like salty food this place probably isnt for you. Unlike your typical French-style fine dining which emphasises balance and textures, the food here is quite heavy with some really rich and dominant flavours.
They also offer a truffle menu throughout Winter, as well as the option to add shaved truffle onto every dish for $20. However the execution of the truffle menu is extremely lazy. There is no truffle infusion of any sort, which is a waste as there's a lot of creamy sauces and oils that could greatly benefit from the flavour. Last year they had an optional Tagliolini dish which had a truffle sauce, which was exceptional, but this year it is just their regular Bottoni stuffed with truffle and pecorino. Even with shaved truffle on top the pecorino flavour is too dominant and barely any truffle can be tasted. Also the menu doesnt seem to have changed much after 1 whole year, which is unusual for a restaurant like this and inhibits repeat visits.
Great experience and location but I feel this restaurant still has a lot of potential.
What a fabulous experience we had there last night! Everything from the exceptional service to the beverage list and the food was outstanding! We absolutely loooved the red scarlet prawns, Parmesan bottoni and the fish. Thank you, Ormeggio! We can’t wait to be back!
We had a wonderful and very long lunch at Ormeggio. Our seating took a full four hours without coffee, which is obviously on the slow side, but suited the relaxed vibe of the restaurant. The food was beautiful and creative, which you would expect of a restaurant at this price point. The risotto and lamb in particular were lovely.
If you are going on a very hot day, you may not want to be seated right on the water edge as it was quite warm but on any other day I would highly recommend the water edge as the view is beautiful.
The only negatives were the price (very expensive) and the speed of the service. Otherwise this is a perfect restaurant for a special occasion.
Bonus points for being very accommodating of a pregnant woman’s dietary requirements.
Came here for lunch and we were seated by the water. The view is amazing especially during summer however it was abit difficult finding parking since it was located on such a busy road.
We had the signature dishes, they chose their most popular dishes over the years and I can certainly see why. I enjoyed the veal tartare and lamb dish the most! The pasta was a really strong burst of flavour if you really enjoy Parmesan!!
Started out here on the later side of the evening and I must say it was the Best 3 hour meal ever!! We were never rushed even though it was close to midnight. The place, view and service was outstanding not to even mention the food!!
The food was unbelievable. Everything had a super kick and was so tasty and delicious. I would definitely recommend it as one of Sydney’s best dining experiences.
