Review Ripples At Chowder Bay - Mosman

Great spot for a meal! We were serve today (13/2/2022) by a young Italian waiter name Sam. He made eating in Ripples a delightful experience. He was happy to serve as if he was serving someone important. The way he serves is an example of great customer service. Good one Sam. The spot had an amazing view of Clifton Garden Beach and the harbor. The food was delicious and the price wasn't too pricey considering this has an amazing view. Bet it would be great to watch sunrise and have breakfast here too.

The food was delicious!! Meat was cooked perfectly which is rare to find. The risotto was very flavourful, maybe a little salty. Service was really standout it with my water glass always full. The only thing that wasn’t great was the sides, the chips were really small and the veggies were small and ends of beans weren’t cut. They weren’t really that flavourful either.

Food is great, good serving portion and nice location. Only comment is we been wedged into a seat between another couple and a small group of six while the restaurant was 99% empty! I can understand the seating been allocated on the screen(PC), but it makes absolutely no sense to put a couple so close to another during COVID time. I can understand on arrival if the restaurant is jam packed, not when it is empty. A choice of seat would have been nice.

Lovely restaurant close to water. We ordered pastas which are delicious. The pork ragu pappardelle is superb! The burrata and arancini with black garlic sauce are very nice entrees. View is nice. They packed as many table as possible on the deck. But with the glass window and very open view, it is a lovely place for lunch for a beautiful day.

Dined here for the first time on Friday and everything was beautiful . The view , the service by our NZ waiter ( forgot his name ) and the food was delicious ! Would definitely recommend . The food did not take long and everything from entree , main and dessert was wonderful . Thank you !

We went for Mother's Day (our first as parents), the staff were great, the food was tasty (set menu for Mother's Day), and a great drink selection. The view was also amazing!

Set in the beautiful Chowder Bay, this beautiful restaurant has good food to go with the view, too. It's a restaurant that's worth a visit when you're in the neighbourhood. Booking is strongly recommended

gorgeous setting, i could never get sick of the view @rippleschowderbay we ordered the chorizo and mozzarella arancini with black garlic mayo. super punchy and delicious, the cheese inside was molten and smooth and the crust outside was as crisp as could be. perfect 🤌 we also ordered the bistecca fiorentina (a house specialty) and the truffle parmesan fries. did you read that right? yes, truffle!!! me!!! ordering truffle?!?!?!?! im slowly dipping my toes into liking truffle, so starting off small with a lightly infused aioli was what i really really enjoyed 🤤 i was completely hooked and couldn't stop eating these chippies 🍟 the steak was a bit average tbh, the seasoning was good but we asked for it to be medium rare and it came out rarer than i'd like 🥩 so for the high price i was a lil surprised at this haha Price: bistecca $120, fries $16, arancini $18 check out my food instagram @erinxeats for more!

$38.00 for tiny beef cheek and bit of Polenta. Size was very small for the money they charge and overcooked and dry out. Certainly not up to scratch. Have had better food else where. Wont be back - service staff were amazing.

This is a great restaurant to come to if you’re looking for fresh, delicious seafood and other Australian dishes. They use the best ingredients to offer you the best dishes. The king prawns are a must try.

Very enjoyable and relaxing dining environment. The food was absolutely delicious. The pate was smooth, balanced and the gherkins matched well with it. The burrata entre was very refreshing, a perfect summer dish.

The steak was cooked to perfection and very tender. The dessert, black sesame, has a light mouth feel, very smooth and delicate.

Extensive wine list and incredible views. Was a great experience.

Service was friendly but very disappointing food for the price. Glad we had a promotion discount on our meal, otherwise would not have been happy to pay $38 for a tiny steak and $26 for overcooked prawns

Lovely restaurant by the wharf with beautiful views. The service was great but the food was just average. The salmon crudo entree was super disappointing - just tasted like norma smoked salmon with olive oil. I liked the desserts more than mains to be honest. The black sesame pannacotta was rich in flavour and the creme brûlée was the perfect amount of sweetness. I would the love to go more often but location is a bit inconvenient unless you’re driving

The location is great, if a bit out of the way. Takes a while getting there but once you arrive and settle in, it's a perfect place for a long relaxing lunch with family, while taking in the amazing view. We came on a Sunday and the place was packed. Food was okay but the stars are given for that combination of location, service, and value-for money.

I honestly don’t know what the fuss is with this place. Honestly, it’s a glorified cafe on the water. The food was less than average and the wait staff less than average. Frankly it’s a waste of time writing any reviews.

Took my friend here for her bday dinner after read blooming reviews. We ordered ocean trout, lamb ragu linguine, and white chocolate mousse to share. Pasta was tasty and flavorful however the trout was a bit dry and tasteless. We ordered a jug of sangria too which is nice. The dessert also ordinary and not so special. If not with the 50% off the fork offer, I think the quality doesn't match the price tag (except the pasta).

We celebrated dad’s birthday at Ripples Chowder Bay. From oysters to fish to mussels, we had a lovely seafood feast. The wait staff were friendly and the view was pretty.

Last time I booked here was on a raining day. I had to cancel because of the rather. Finally another family event came up and I had the chance to rebook this place. It was quite an adventure to get here~ like finding a treasure, this place was truly amazing. Had a quite brunch with family inside as the deck was busy and all booked out. However, the customer service was spectacular and food was simple but portion wise price friendly. Desert was even better!! The dark chocolate mouse was creamy and rich! I think this will be a truly meaningful for me...thanks to all the friendly staff who had to work on the long weekend here!

Beautiful location. We went for dinner, so cannot see much but we enjoyed before and after meal walk around for the view.

Food size is normal to big, depending on what you order. My fish (whole fish - which was trout on that night) was big, and I can see big pie on the other table too. However my husband steak was smaller for him.

Only downside for this venue is parking. This is not the restaurant fault, but due to the location, you need a car - and the parking is $6 per hour.
Jamin65
I almost rated this a 3 but you just have to love the location - it really is special. I took my wife on a private water taxi there and back for lunch - delightful day - Sydney is easily the most beautiful Harbour city in the world. But enough about the location, the building and fit-out is well done and sits comfortably with the scenery. The wine choice is ok - but limited and could surely survive a better selection of choice cellared wines. The food variety is similarly, ok, but limited and posses limited imagination. I had the sword fish - dry as...! Disappointing really - but the view saved the day. The service was good - not spectacular, but ok. Essentially, apart from the scenery and view, everything was just ok.
Kristen Chan
Beautiful food in a stunning location! The only complaint I have is portions being on the smaller side. The service was fantastic and wine selection was great.

Went for a birthday lunch with my family. Really great service and beautiful location. Food was nice, my favourite was dessert. I didn't take photos of the sides and the bread but they were good too.
April
View around is more than spectacular, however the beef was just too well done without asking if it needs to be done so we'll. Make sure drive your own car before set off.

Had dinner here on saturday, decided to book the earliest time at 6, thought we could catch the sunset. But oh well its winter, so its dark already 😅. The location of the venue is a bit remote but it is beautiful, will come back to try lunch here. Only tried few dishes, we started with the whitebait, then cured marlin with grapefruit and squid ink mayo, for main we ordered the chargrilled beef 😍 and pork cutlet, finished off with rice pannacota 😍.. sorry didnt take the picture for the dessert.. i recommend this place for romantic dinner or even bigger groups, only challenge is to get there if you are not driving.. and service there is very professional
Mick Dundee
Lovely location with the usual high standard of ripples group.

We have been here several times and have always enjoyed the meals.

Their lamb dishes are normally of a very high standard.

Wonderful atmosphere but a little over priced in consideration that I was still hungry after my main! That's the first time it's ever happened to me and I was a little surprised as there really wasn't much fish on the bone on the dish I ordered, yet it was the most expensive thing on the menu.

The staff are wonderful and very obliging, the view and atmosphere also similarly enjoyable. However I certainly wouldn't rush back here based on the menu as mentioned above. It also took a very long time for our mains to arrive so we were all very hungry by the time they arrived!

Great experience at this restaurant. Atmosphere was perfect and it's a great restaurant to go on a breezy sunny day for lunch or dinner during sunset times. Staff were very friendly and food was great too!

We've been to Chowder Bay a few times. The Ripples outdoor dining area was buzzing, sunny and served wonderful seafood. It is quiet a walk away from parking and the historical venue has steep steps to dine. The service was excellent.

Well heard about Ripples' great food, so booked for Valentine's Day. My personal verdict is disappointing.
1. No special ambience for the occasion. Tables came with cheap thin white paper napkins.
2. Appetiser choice of mozzarella chesse or cured salmon or serrano ham - it's more like having cold cuts.
3. Beef tenderloin cuts were uneven and tiny.
4. Forgettable desserts, like panna cotta and a chocolate mousse with sorbet.
5. There was a Valentine's cocktail (served in a very small martini glass), if they could have served it in a shot glass I think they would have ... charged $16.
Anyway, the food for me was cheap dressed to be expensive, not impressed. Will not be back.
Coco
Stunning venue and great food. Had the eggs with hollondaise. Absolutely fantastic venue, only comment would be that the coffee is a little small.
Steve Allison
Great location and a pretty good view. Terrible service and average sounding food just overly complicated dishes like lipstick on a pig. Didn't bother to stick around after waiting 10-15 minutes after being seated. Pretty good wine list odd to charge for "unlimited water". That's standard at even crappy places.
Lyohl
Brilliant locations often require a long drive, and this place is no exception (for me at least). The view was nice and whilst the food was nothing special, it was still decent.
Cons: It took around 40 minutes for the food to be served despite booking in advance.
Warren
We were part of a corporate group of 11. We sat at noon and my main rolled out at 1.30. Any chance of the food and atmosphere being front and centre were gone. And dessert came at 2.25 causing us all to run for extended parking which cost me $14 all up.

It's a shame really as somewhere like this should be more snappy with the wait times.

Came here for a birthday on a Saturday night. It was a really windy night and we were seated outside. We were kept warm by the covers and heaters.

There was too many of us so we had the set menu. It was a good three course menu. I got the BBQ king prawns as my entree and loved the flavours, although the meat tasted a little mushy. My main was the steak, it was cooked well and delicious. The dessert was tasty.

The staff was attentive and friendly. I would go back for the al a carte menu and try other dishes on the menu.

Location was beautiful. Set by the water but not easy to get to if you don't drive or plan to drink and uber. Service staff were attentive but the food was average at best. There was no particularly outstanding dish but a not too bad wine list.

A great location and venue especially on a summer's day but not sure if I'd rush back again whatever the season. The service was conservative but polite & efficient. The food was just 'OK'. I'm guessing being winter that was the reason they had a 50% off special on all food. The oysters were nice enough, barramundi while pretty was fairly bland and fish & chips was, well....fish & chips. Dessert again was visually attractive but nothing special. There were four of us and had a great day but I certainly wouldn't want to pay full price.

A couple of months ago we came across this Ripples outlet whilst on a stroll from Burnt Orange. If I didn't know it was here, it would've taken me ages to find it.

It's located with several other F&B outlets on Chowder Bay. Other than an intermittent bus service, one needs a set of wheels to get here. Its remote location gives the journey to the restaurant an exotic and romantic off-the beaten track feel; the kind you get where you drive miles along winding roads in a national forest. OK, so we are only a couple of miles into Mosman and Clifton Gardens - we can still pretend. PS: Note the parking signs, as there is a park ranger walking around.

The Mother's Day menu was a set offering at $95 per head for adults. This includes an appetiser, a main and desert. We were greeted by the very friend front of house. The waiting staff was superb (one of the better teams I have been served by), they were friendly and available but not obtrusive. I was compelled to provide a decent tip for the quality of the waiting crew.

I chose an appetiser of prawns which was deveined and halved and grilled. The prawns were then treated to a roasted red pepper sauce. When you start with fresh ingredients, you can’t go wrong. The beef tenderloins were very good as well. It was moist and juicy and done just right.

Whilst it was an overcast day, the overall ambience was great and definitely a lunch to remember. The prices are on the high side but then again, this is a white table clothed dining experience.
Come at lunch for the gorgeous views and lovely food; especially when they have the mid-week lunch special, which is a 5-star dining bargain!

We came here for dinner on a special deal. The location was a bit remote and isolated at night, but it was a very nice romantic spot for dinner (and there were many couples around). I guess the view would be amazing in day time. Unfortunately, the lovely views are the best thing about the restaurant.

The food ranges from average to not so good. Some of the better dishes were the cured trout & grilled octopus for entree. The yamba prawns was a tad over, and the sauce on top looked like squiggles and just didn't gel with the prawns. For main, the best one we had was the beef tenderloin which was juicy and well seasoned. Both the fish dishes, whole baby trout and steamed barramundi were a little dry. The worst thing was that the barramundi was served with shiitake mushrooms, but the mushrooms were not rehydrated properly nor cooked enough, it was cardboard chewy and left a really unpleasant taste, not enjoyable at all. The desserts were a bit stronger, both passion fruit & banana cheesecake, and the green tea cake were light and pleasant, the raspberry sorbet was a refreshing way to finish the meal.

Overall, the staff were really friendly, and made the night enjoyable. Maybe I will come back for lunch to enjoy the view next time.

I've been spending some time in the northern Sydney suburbs lately, mainly lounging around the harbourside locations, doing coastal walks and enjoying the beaches they have on offer. On this occasion, we were in Clifton gardens for lunch at Ripples, Chowder Bay. A gorgeous sunny day meant that the place was packed. This meant the deck seating (which has an amazing view of the beach and water) was booked out and we had to sit inside, which isn't that bad. Service is attentive and quick, and if you have a certain Citibank credit card, this is a participating restaurant where you can get a free bottle of wine.

Amazing ocean view with a warm welcoming atmosphere. This restaurant is perfect for weekends when you want to escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Great food, though not as good as Rockpool's but the food platings are exceptionally pleasing.
A Lot At Steak
Just had the last Breakfast at Ripples, which was most enjoyer able. Large servings beautifully cooked. This lovely setting is well worth coming back for lunch or dinner.

Three points for the ocean view and impeccable service. This out of the way fine diner is a fav for advertising and corporate types for their LONG lunches.
Grilled yamba prawn gets you into the glorious location. Beef tenderloin is soft and tender, but sadly is also cold and limp. Sure, this is one of those corporate set menus but that's no excuse for the $$. Burnt onion crumble is interesting at first but turns annoying soon after.

Ripples is one of those Sydney institutions that is well renowned for providing quality food at reasonable prices, topped off with an amazing view. So needless to say I was happy to receive a Ripples gift voucher for Christmas last year!. Located at Middle Head at the end of Chowder Bay Road, Ripples Chowder Bay is one of two Ripples restaurants owned and run by the Sydney Restaurant Group, which boasts a strong portfolio of restaurants including Aqua Dining, Ormeggio at the Spit, LuMi Bar & Dining, and Ripples Milsons Point. As with many of its other venues, the Chowder Bay restaurant is right on the water and provides a stunning backdrop for your meal.

Delicious breakfast in a peaceful relaxing setting overlooking the harbour. The food is amazing and everything tastes fresh and full of flavour. You can't beat sitting on the verandah absorbing the cool morning air. If it's winter, or the morning is especially chilly - bring warm clothes or ask for a blanket. Will be back again!

Lovely view. Great service. The French toast here is to die for! Extremely busy on weekends, particularly breakfasts, so make sure to book early.

We went for lunch at Ripples, Chowder Bay. The restaurant has beautiful waterfront views of Clifton Gardens...

A great night out on a warm summer's evening. Had the sardines on brioche, barramundi with quinoa salad, and chocolate marquise. Decent wine list and friendly service. Go when it's warm and book an outside table - you'll have a great night.

Less than ordinary food. A group of us came here for mother's day lunch and had three course meal. I have to say, I did not enjoy the food one bit.
I am frankly quite shocked with the quality of food they served. I had BBQ king prawns for entree, which looked great but it was actually fishy. It is one of the worst BBQ king prawn I have ever tasted. For main I had vegetarian risotto which was - honestly not even that tasty.
I mean making delicious vegetarian risotto is not that hard, I couldn't believe they can't even get this simple dish right.
I ended up only eating 1/3 of risotto. My husband had stake for his main, he could only eat couple of bite from this dish, the meat was tough and quality of the meat was below average. Now the dessert came, I ordered carrot cake - again nothing special. We paid almost $500 for the meal of 6 people and it is absolutely disgraceful for the price we paid and quality of food they serve.
The restaurant is situated in a nice location, that is only positive thing with this restaurant. I don't believe they have chef working in their kitchen. No chef will cook the food they have served us today. I do not recommend anyone to this restaurant, if you appreciate a good food stay clear. I rated 1 for the location and it's view.

Excellent food, location and service was outstanding.. 10 out of 10
Love Fooding Around
This was the perfect setting to spend an evening with Mum celebrating her birthday after a long, stressful day at work. I was immediately relaxed...Cured Ocean Trout with Avocado mousse, fried shallots, black sesame, lemon, chilli & parsley dressing, $20.00 To our surprise the entree comes out very quickly. The ocean trout is cured with lemon and is sprinkled with fried shallots , black sesame , lemon , chilli and parsley . The chilli doesn't have much of a kick as the seeds have been removed, so it's all more for texture and colour than actual extra seasoning. The fish is light and fresh but I would have preferred if there were a few more pieces.
All You Do Is Eat
All in all, it’s a fairy reasonably priced breakfast restaurant considering the service was great, the food delicious and the view always a pleasure.
Charn Tangson
Accompanied with pumpkin puree, it was sweet and left slightly raw so that it remained soft in the inside. The colours makes the dish a lot more appetising and give it a little bit of flair which is rare in scallop dishes. The only downside is that it was served cold – I personally enjoy my scallops much more hot.
OMOTG
Ripples Chowder Bay was recommended to me as a good combination of great food and harbour views. It is the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion, entertain visitors or wile away a sunny afternoon. The décor inside the restaurant is clean, white and crisp. The odd splash of black fabric, and beautiful Australian artwork brighten the space and don’t detract from the outstanding views outside.

The view is stupendous and the food isn't too shabby either!

Worst meal I've had in Sydney. Celebrating in the most beautiful location. Pity the food doesn't match. The $22 Yamba prawn entree consisting of three prawns and sprinkling of calamari ....? was pretty tasteless and they were not the freshest. The sardine entree ......my friend needed to put his glasses on to find it on the plate. A $10 corkage per person.......seriously. Pretty ordinary beer battered fish and chips. there are so many lovely spots in Sydney with great food to match and decent portions veggies included. This is not one of them. Next time I'll take my fresh prawns and wine to the beach and have a great picnic. Providing a chocolate brownie with a crummy candle and rushing us off the table because of another sitting....we just spent a huge amount of money....come on guys it's just not good enough but then so many people visit I doubt they will care.

Wow what a beautiful experience. I happened to find this restaurant on urbanspoon and booked lunch with my 82 year old Dad for our Christmas get together before I head back interstate. Wow I couldn't fault anything. Just superb.

Classy friendly service + Amazing food!!

Must go!!

Went here for partners bday and had a beautiful time. The ocean views and sunset make such a gorgeous ambience. Highly recommend the squid ink pasta! Waiters are so kind and generous shouted us a drink and flawlessly provided an incredible dining experience.

Thank you!!!

Impressive. Lived in Sydney my whole life and only just discovered Chowder bay and Ripples. And what a pleasant surprise it was. Excellent friendly service and great food. Really enjoyed our evening and the view is beautiful. I usually avoid places with views as they can tend to cater to tourists and so don't have the quality of food to match the view but this is not the case with Ripples. I was very impressed. The only negative I have to say was the table of very loud people. What is it with people shouting in restaurants??? Do people feel they need to scream across the table to be heard. So annoying and inconsiderate of those around them. The French maître d was very nice as were the waiters.
Fortheloveoffood
Had lunch here yesterday with a couple of friends and it was fantastic. The setting is beautiful, wait staff were friendly and helpful and the food was delicious. We shared scallops and prawns for entree which were fresh and cooked perfectly (although portion size was a bit small - only 3 of each). Ocean trout was tender and flavorful and balanced nicely with the pea purée - highly recommend it. The beef was also very nice - juicy and cooked perfectly. Good sized mains - enough to satisfy but not to feel too full (leaving room for dessert!). Would recommend the apple and rhubarb crumble - delish. The chocolate dessert was also lovely but very rich! Would definitely go back.

Beautiful view of the bay. Like The Bathers Pavilion, Ripples Chowder Bay is a winning combination of beautiful historical building and positioning that catches the beauty of the nearby beach and bay. While the food and wine is very good, it isn't a cheap meal, and you will probably have to deal with dining next to well-to-dos and their offspring.
Obsidian Sister
Classic Australian. Wonderful surrounds and classic harbour location.
Very attentive staff and consistantly good courses.
Could have been more generous portions.
Luxurious but relaxed feel.
Mark Hewlett
Had an excellent evening meal Saturday night. Food and service top class with a location to beat any. BYO corkage on the high side at $8 but an excellent house wine list instead. Great for kids with special kids portions and options plus colouring! Would definitely return and soon.

A really great experience.. I was taken here for a surprise catch up with some friends for my Birthday recently. Being an 'out of towner', I had no idea what to expect and given I usually look at places on Urbanspoon and other such sites before deciding whether to eat at restaurants, I was totally in the dark on this place. Even though the weather was very ordinary (rainy and windy at times), we sat on the enclosed deck with the plastic flaps down and the heaters on and this was fantastic. We ordered bread and dips to start, the duck and barramundi between the four of us with a side salad for mains and cheese platter and some sorbets for desert. We had some excellent Hunter Valley Verdelho as well. All of the food was really very, very good. The breads and dips to start were warm and fresh. All the main dishes were cooked perfectly and very tasty without being too over powering or having too many flavours to them. The salad was lightly dressed with a fruity olive oil and topped with shaved parmasen and tasted great. Finally the cheese and the sorbets were a very good way to finish. Besides the food, I could not fault the service. Friendly, attentive and very efficient, but not in your face. We didn't have to wait long for anything. Overall, it was a great experiences and one that I'll remember for quite some time. I would definately go back if I'm in town again, and I suspect this place would be a little quieter than most given it's location and seclusion from most of the main restaurant areas.
Madam Wu
Perfectly pleasing and pleasant. We had dinner here on a weeknight (Wednesday) which was cosy and quiet. The mod Aus menu includes a wide selection of seafood and meat options. We shared an appetizer platter of toasted Turkish with dips and juicy olives. As an entree, the seared scallops were plump but not complemented well by the beetroot disks and goats' cheese, the latter of which overwhelmed it. For my main, the swordfish corteccio with prawns, mussels and cherry tomatoes was flavoursome with a white wine dressing. Ripples delivered a polished and solid experience. A safe bet for a lovely night out.
Richard Brock
Great view but below average food. The pancakes were the worst I have ever had, I needed to change my order.
Ilurvedesserts
Good food with nice ambience. Recommended for a perfect casual dinner, we arrived without reservation on Friday evening. it was a great seating arrangement where we can see the sunset overlooking the water. staff are respectful and the food is good too. overall nice experience.
Ains
Very average. We were very disappointed, which is a shame after having high expectations and shelling out $350.

The food was bland and not one of us said this is delicious. We all commented that it could have been a lot better. We won't be going back!!!

Such a shame, what a great location.
Rodney - Villa D'Este
Prefect lunch with good friends. It was Sydney's hottest day in four years, topping at 41 degrees and we were sitting outside under shade. I had the char-grilled beef tenderloins w confit potato, cherry vine tomatoes, port jus which made me forget the sweat running down by back. It was as they say "to die for". The ladies had veal saltimbocca, w sage & prosciutto, white wine, parsley and they were impressed (both in the food game). Mark was planned to have the Fish (dorry) and Chips but there was no VB so went up market with a boutique beer and grilled lamb loin on caponata, salsa verde, red wine jus. The staff were cool cats on such a hot day constantly attentive. The strong southeasterly arrived to the applaud of the diners. Great views across the harbour. Impressive food and operation.
Simon Pope
Great location and great food. The wine list is more than adequate with a good range of affordable, quality wines. My only complaint was that the service was slow, and the wait staff inexperienced but friendly. I thoroughly recommend this place. One final note, the gate to Chowder Bay closes at 11:30 pm, so don't expect to be there much after 11pm!
