Review Chiosco By Ormeggio - Mosman

Mark Garcia
I celebrated my birthday here and was pleased with everything. Given the numbers of my booking we were forced to do the Sharing Feast menu and no one left the venue hungry. The variety of food, portions and attentive staff was impeccable. Thanks to the team for making the special occasion that extra special. Highly recommended for a long casual lunch with loved ones over great food and drinks by the water.

The starters were nice! Oysters were fresh & the calamari was perfectly cooked and enjoyed the sourdough. For the mains, the Pumpkin ravioli and seafood spaghetti were great as well, however didn't find the swordfish or the veal to my liking.

My 3 stars goes only to Staffs who were very hardworking and also the fish which had a great taste. But unforunately the food’s quality was not good at all , except than the fish of the day we ordered. The roast potato was almost burnt. The pasta was low quality with the smell of sea water. We had the view of kitchen and not the bay, although we had a booked table and unfortunately there was no option in the website to choose the table. To be honest the money we paid was not worth it and in comparing with some other good restaurants it sits somewhere down the row!

The staff were really caring and hardworking and i really appreciate their efforts. Not much words about the food, it was very very normal, was not totally worth the price...

Not enough variety on menu. Steaks MP at $15 per kilo and only 1kg TBone steak available??!! What woman wants to eat that much, no other meat alternative. Paid $48 for about 100 grams of swordfish which was tender but tasteless. The whole experience is too expensive for what it was. For the prices the standards and options should have been a whole lot better. Unfortuanely can't recommend with so many other restaurants that are less expensive, with just as good views and staff that are more attentive... (just across the road).... sorry :( But the Espresso Martini was yum!)

Enjoy a most lovely evening dinner, food was absolutely delicious, service flawless and setting beyond beautiful. Took a stroll onto the jetty as the sunset was at its best. All of this was done celebrating 47 th wedding anniversary.

We had the Wednesday $20 pasta specials, very tasty and great value. Service was excellent and our waitress helped with wine selection including a brief tasting. It was a wintry raining night but the place was buzzing, the heating was good and a really positive experience all round.

We had lunch on Sunday at Chiosco. We had the grilled prawns which were a bit mushy and although it didn’t taste off, it didn’t taste entirely right either. We put it down to sometimes prawns can be a bit “fishy”. My partner had the oysters and the prawn risotto. He had an upset tummy all night and I felt nauseous all afternoon too. We have done our RAT tests and we don’t have Covid so we can only put it down to a lunch that wasn’t fresh especially pointing to the upset tummy incident. This is not the quality we know and expect of Chiosco. We have been there numerous times. Super disappointing.

I came here for a birthday, as they have a birthday offer available. We ordered one of the tasting menus and everything was absolutely delicious. The wine was matched very well to the meal, at the advice of the staff. The atmosphere was fun, feeling like we were sitting on a boat, without the bobbing. I really enjoyed my experience and will be back.

The entrees on the set menu were the very good - loved the bruschetta with stracciatella and fig. However the mains were very mediocre and we were served undercooked chicken. The female waitress was very so attentive and friendly, but the male waiter unfortunately had an attitude and had a condescending tone when speaking to us. The views and ambience were amazing.

Brought my friend here as a belated birthday treat. Got a table at 6pm and decided to order the Chef’s sharing feast for 65pp as it seemingly offered decent value for money. As we were the first customers of the night, we were promptly shown to our tables and our food and drinks arrived shortly after. We started our meal with the house made crusty sourdough dipped in olive oil, followed by bruschetta, slow cooked veal in tuna mayonnaise and crispy fried squid. The sourdough was unfortunately too hard to eat comfortably, but the bruschetta and squid were divine. As I wasn’t a huge fan of mayo, the veal course didn’t do too much for me but it was delicious when eaten sparingly with mayo. Next we had mains of a tomato pasta of wagyu beef, grilled king prawns and grilled chicken with corn. Unfortunately the pasta was a bit too salty and we didn’t finish it. The prawns were exquisite and the highlight of the meal for me. We finished off with a dessert platter of Nutella donuts and cannoli, which was good but nothing spectacular. Throughout the meal, table service was excellent and watching the sunset go down over the marina and the lights on the cliff houses go on was magical. While the food is nothing to shout about, it’s still all in all, a good experience and would recommend for special occasions.

Came here for lunch and it was very quiet so we had lovely service.Food was nice, I had a pasta and it was decent but the fries were amazing, very crisp. The restaurant is located in a lovely part of Mosman on the water and worth a visit for a nice walk afterwards.

Actual rating: 3.5

Chiosco is the less formal branch of fine dining restaurant, Ormeggio at the Spit next door. We went for the set menu which was decent value at less than $80 for about 10 courses. My personal favourites: the gorgeous dark, crusty sourdough with a grassy olive oil; bruschetta with fresh cheese and anchovy; gnocchi with gorgonzola, pickled pear and walnuts; ricotta cannoli. Efficient service and food arrived quickly (could be slowed down, in fact). They were also very accommodating with dietary needs. It's a lovely setting overlooking the waters and is well protected from the elements, with excellent heating for winter dining.

Quite attentive service, however the ambiance was pretty loud and noisy given such a small place, with a large group table next to us. Food wise, all plates were consistently ok. The highlight of the night was the muscle and pasta to me, decent flavours.

Excellent service, friendly folks. Nice food but I hesitate to say spectacular, also visa-vie price which is a touch on high side for some menu elements & the casual setting. Would have been courteous to advise 15% holiday surcharge when I booked just so not surprise on the bill ($56 not unsubstantial).

The service here is woeful, we were pushed to leave from the moment we sat down. The food was not memorable.
I would never visit here again.

Nice Italian restaurant with great location by the water. During day time you can see the great view. Comfortable seating even though too close to each other and great food. Went for the Degustation menu and wasn't disappointed. Tasty and freshly cooked dishes, well decorated. Friendly service. Coffee wasn't that great though but probably personal.

Enjoyed the dinner in this small interesting Italian restaurant by the D'albora Marinas, at the Spit. We had air dried angus bresaola - rocket - parmesan as antipasti. We shared the mains; Charcoal spatchcock - peperonata sauce with smoked capsicum - rosemary and angus (marble 5), caramelised onions with rocket.... and tiramisus for dessert!... with my typical double espresso.. of course :)

Capriccio bresaola was fantastic! Spatchcock and steak prepared perfectly... simple flavours makes a perfect dish when ingredients are respected as should.

Tiramisu was a real honest tiramisu. Not any kind of new fancy version that is probably ruined with trying to be too fancy. Just loved it. Keep food real - and its good.

They also have nice wines.. ask from staff. Really good, fast, professional service. Knowing their food well.

---------

Revisited 1.6.2017

Had baby snapper, yellowfin tuna and squid for starters. All great, still keeping #4 as rating. Great place!

My husband and I went for breakfast and we were shocked by the unfriendly service. The staff seemed busy with serving customers so we waited politely and patiently for 10 minutes until my husband approached one of the staff and told her we were waiting for a table for breakfast. She told us to take one of the vacant tables. As we walked to the table another staff enquired what we were doing and told us that the breakfast service was closed and they were only serving take away.
There were two women already waiting for takeaway coffee who were also being completely ignored. I have never come across a more unfriendly place that made you feel so invisible. We walked away knowing we're never coming back.

Devouring freshly shucked oysters with a fantastic glass of white as we watch the sun setting beyond the boats at The Spit marina! I ask you .... on a balmy summer's evening in Sydney where would you rather be! Only booked 10mins before arriving so lucky to get the best table closest to the water! Full house btw. Baby snapper with olives, grapes and capers and Black Angus with caramelised onions and rocket salad. Tiramisu to top it all off. Who cares if the service is a little "Fiji time". I'm chilled and watching the sunset.

Came here for an early valentines dinner. Husband proposed after Dinner at Omeggio but it was closed so he booked Chiosco which is right next door. Beautiful location and good atmosphere. A much more relaxed boaty vibe. Food was well priced. The tasting menu looked appealing for $65pp but due to not eating red meat, there would be too many changes so we opted to order from the menu. Food was good in portion size. Everything was just ok, nothing amazingly special but just ok. Highlight for me was dessert. I'm a sweets lover and the tiramisu and Nutella Bombs were great!
Waitstaff need more training. The one bloke with the glasses and shaved head, probably head waiter was excellent, asked us about our meal and described the dishes. Other staff not so great; forgetting wine, share plates etc. if all staff were trained like this bloke the experience would hVe been a 4/5 not a 3.5/5.
Would like to see a few more specials added if I were to come back.
Took my boyfriend here for his bday. This is the sweetheart of the marina overlooking the luxurious boats on the wharf. The view at 6pm right through to the end of our meal n drinks by the water, was calm and picturesque. We ordered the calamari n prawns and that was yummy appetizing start to the dinner. The only draw back is that there was many more prawns and not much calamari. For the main we ordered the lamb shoulder. OH. This lamb shoulder was sooooo delicious tender; just sliding off the bone n the subtle roasted flavours of the lamb.
As a special treat I asked them to bring out a tiramisu with a candle in it for my boyfriend. They brought out the raspberry pannacotta instead. I let it go because the guy insisted that we not pay for it and he sent two glasses of champagne for us! So sweet!
We ordered two coffees and took in the beautiful sunset before going on a light walk along the marina.
Id definitely recommend this place for that special treat for a loved one or a special night out!😄
Casual little brother of Ormeggio next door... The food is great and deserves to be viewed in its own light and not that of the big brother... I loved the fresh bread, the smoked meats, the wagyu and mushrooms, and the mains were astounding... Save the chicken diavolo and beef for a finale!
The staff we responsive, albeit sometimes missing on a very busy Saturday night...
Overall, awesome, exceptional value, and we'll be back!!!
Such a fantastic dinner!
Food was a lot above my expectations.
Fritto misto was good,
but the spaghetti alla chitarra were absolutely sublime.
A good night, needs a good Italian wine.
Location quite and friendly.
Eating Out Sydney
Casual waterside dining at its best! Perfectly cooked snapper fillet garnished with fresh olives and cherry tomatoes. It takes some navigating to find this eatery but it's well worth the visit. Did I mention it's BYO and barefoot friendly too?!

Amazing! The set menu is the way to go. The service is smooth, easy going and very knowledgeable. Great little location amongst the boats.

Being whisked over to Mosman for a team Christmas lunch is always welcomed and most definitely appreciated. It is a glorious sunny December day (amid some bad weather days) to dine alfresco on the jetty overlooking the marina and Middle Harbour at Chiosco by Ormeggio, the more casual dining restaurant sister to Ormeggio (just on the other side of the jetty). The concept is Italian Trattoria and it's modern, fresh and judging by other diners good portion sizes!
Thefoodantiblog
Sister restaurant of Ormeggio and it follows Ormeggio in providing quality food that is generally well cooked but doesn't have the same excellence. Still very tasty and we may be being a bit harsh in the following...

Corn and cheese was a bit unexciting. Kingfish was not as exciting. Gnocchi was good, nice and fluffy. Spaghetti was better, house made, simple but really tasty.

Tiramisu was pretty good, bombolone was too sweet. Not as good as one we had from a cart in a car park in Hawaii.

Setting lovely. Service pleasant. Tried bread, grilled baby octopus, fritto misto, gnocchi with pea and bacon, and trout with tomato and olives.
Quality of ingredients, length of cooking, & presentation all good. A juicy and generous slice of lemon with the seafood antipasti was a nice touch.
Portion size was plentiful for price, especially given the location. However, I do resent paying 8$ for two slices of bread.
Unfortunately, everything was oversalted. Dramatically oversalted. This essentially ruined the experience. Hopefully the kitchen can sort this out - you can always add salt at the table, but you can never take it away.
Money: >60$ per person for bread, a starter, a main, and a dessert

Fantastic that this is a BYO venue on yeh water. Rare in sydney

Great for a casual lazy day in the sun, space is limited and can get busy so make sure you call ahead

Bianca: A casual sister restaurant to Alessandro Pavoni’s chef hatted ‘Ormeggio’ and with stunning views right up Middle Harbour. ‘Chiosco by Ormeggio’ makes for a casual yet upmarket space for a leisurely lunch, special occasion or any old regular meal. To ease Alex back into the Sydney world after his European adventure, mum and I decided to treat him to a relaxed Friday lunch. Construction is currently taking place around the marina, so it is looking a little worse for wear. The restaurant is perched just at the end of the marina and adjacent to the more fine dining Ormeggio. Whilst it was sunny, all the plastic side panels were still in place and it quickly became a little furnace. I could see it being a pleasant spot for drinks as the sun sets on a beautiful summer’s eve.

We went to Chiosco after dining at Ormeggio where we had a great dinner. Chiosco is the more laid back little sister of Ormeggio with share plates and a more casual atmosphere.

The service was friendly and the food was delicious and well presented. The puttanesca was rich and deep in flavour and the daily fish crudo was fresh and zesty. I thought that the fritti misto was a little oily and couldn't finish my serving.

The star of the evening was the nutella filled bombolone that still hold the title of best dessert of 2015 (imo). These little spongey balles of fried donut ooooze nutella and reaffirm that all is well with the world. Run, don't walk people.

If this is the type of Italian street food I can look forward to when I go to Italy, I will be very pleased! A couple of friends and I had lunch here one sunny Saturday. The restaurant is light, relaxed and warm - their "high tech awning and heating system" certainly protected us from the elements as we were comfortable without our winter coats.
House In Tillford
By House in Tillford 1:20 PM food , review Stepping into Chiosco by Ormeggio, the more street style sister restaurant to the two hatted Ormeggio restaurant, felt like stepping onto a boat (minus the sickness inducing rocking!). The restaurant sits on the wharf in Mosman and is nestled amongst a number of docked boats. The small dining area gives the restaurant a more personal and welcoming feel and the friendly staff, many of whom boast a thick Italian accent, add to that feel. Despite the chilly winter outside, the restaurant is unusually warm so we all immediately take off all our winter layers before sitting. Our waiter patiently waits while we do, before telling us the specials of the day and leaving us with the menu. No need for that, after a week of very clean eating I had already downloaded the menu on my phone and planned my indulgent weekend meal. The menu isn't too elaborate, a range of entrées designed to share, a small number of pasta dishes, a larger selection of mains and then a few dessert and drink options. Having craved pasta all week I ordered the Gnocchi with basil pesto and ricotta salata ($20). I also ordered a watermelon virgin mojito ($9.50) just because it sounded delicious. The drinks arrived quickly, the mojito was a tasty and refreshing treat, that helped cool us down a little in the warm restaurant. Plus it wasn't very sweet, which meant it wouldn't alter the tastes of our mains. My gnocchi arrived not too long after our drinks, and smelled delicious. Being used to gnocchi served with a tomato based sauce the pesto flavours were a nice change. The sauce was nice and not too heavy and you could taste the fresh basil. The gnocchi was soft and fluffy and cooked perfectly. The portion, although may look small, was exactly right. Filled me up but left me with room for dessert, which I was eagerly anticipating.

Great view & service but $10 corkage - really?. That s it
the antipasti are particularly nice the view and the setting is awesome as all all the staff but its daylight robbery to charge so much for BYO

9/4/2015 0 Comments Chiosco by Ormeggio is the casual offshoot of the two hatted Ormeggio at Spit Bridge. After a morning kayaking, we were in need of sustenance. Perched on the jetty with a nautical theme, metres away from the luxury boats and the glistening waters, it makes for a very relaxing setting. The menu at Chiosco (Italian for kiosk) contains a selection of Italian street food as well as three pasta dishes. We opted for the burrata with basil oil, beetroot and sourdough crumbs first-up. Burrata is a fresh cheese made from mozzarella and cream, and is one of my favourite cheeses. Cutting into the burrata, the cream oozes out and we had fun mixing it with the other ingredients on the plate. The flavours were spot on and the sourdough crumbs gave great texture to the dish. Burrata with basil oil, beetroot and organic sourdough crumbs $19 The lamb skewers were perfectly cooked and the yoghurt and mint oil gave the dish a refreshing hit. Arrosticini - Lamb skewers, yoghurt and mint oil - 3 for $18 The Fregola with prawns and cherry tomatoes was a simple but tasty dish. The Fregola, which is similar to Israeli cous cous was very well cooked, moist without being gluggy. Though at $22, I was expecting a bigger serve. Fregola with prawns, cherry tomato and parsley $22 Top quality food and friendly service, my only wish were that the servings were a little bigger. It's a great place for a long, relaxing lunch.

...I was excited by Chiosco before it even opened, and not just because of its ‘Italian street food’ menu. Chiosco also boasts 200-300 degree views of Sydney’s Middle Harbour, BYO wine and a casual feel that’s so relaxed they call it ‘bare-foot dining’.
Life Of A Travel Czar
So here’s the deal the desserts here are simple Italian pastries which all sound divine. I order these Italian doughnuts filled with Nutella (Do not lick the screen!). It’s such a sensuous experience…the crispness of the outer pastry, the grainy sweetness of the sugar dusting, the fluffy “oh you know doughnut batter taste like” ‎pastry beneath the crust which leads into the rich, thick, chocolatey, oily hazelnut filling. Words can’t describe… the sensation of the Nutella filling which mixes with the pastry and sugar in one’s mouth! It’s a such treat.
The Napoli Alert
A compact but open space, Chiosco is appropriately nautically themed and with a casual vibe. Kids are always welcome in any Pavoni establishment (which I love), and in this case, so are boats, as boat catering is available, and you can rock up in your boardies with a bit of sand if you so desire. They do breakfast too.

Fab experience!. Had dinner here last night and it was great, we will be back! Jon Marco our waiter was above and beyond, not only did he know the menu back to front which resulted in us ordering his recommendations, amazing, but he also let me wear his sunglasses for the glare of the sun. Now, where do you get this sort of service in a friendly, barefoot, BYO restaurant? Keep it up guys, you were all amazing, as we got our booking mixed up and they fitted us in with no dramas at all.

Fabulous location in amongst the boats and a very impressive breakfast is morning. Initially looked a little disorganised but quality of food and friendly service was excellent

Best menu with perfect views. Managed to nab a table for their pre-opening!
Best location, with views from all areas of the restaurant out onto the harbour. Amazingly fresh Italian street food, best when sharing a few dishes with friends. Brought along a few bottles of wine and a quick bite turned into a sunny, relaxed lunch over the water. Favourite dish was the fried squid, almost forgot to get a photo of it before finishing!

Definitely coming back whenever I possibly can.
