This spot really is a gem.. great atmosphere, run by an ex butcher who can choose cut and prepare a steak better than anyone I know, this has been the first point of call for us for most our celebrations .. always a great meal and the talking point of most of the locals, and the spot to go whilst in Mt Barker
Passing through on our way home to Perth late Sunday afternoon and we were craving steak. Found this gem and hoped the kitchen was still open. The owner (I assume), an ex-butcher, who was in the kitchen welcomed us and was really friendly. He understands good customer service and goes above and beyond. Steak cooked absolutely perfect to our liking, the chips were seasoned beautifully and crisp. Prawns for the surf and turf, reef and reef, were juicy and plump, which is rare. The porterhouse steak was seasoned well, medium rare cooked perfectly, thick and juicy, served with a wonderful peppercorn sauce, crispy seasoned chips and salad. Really hearty and tasty meals at an affordable price. Thank you for not rushing to close the kitchen, and making us feel so welcome. Will definitely be back.
Had squid and chips, great meal, came from albany when the power was out, most certainly worth the 30min drive, we will be back for sure
Top notch food. Ridiculously huge servings, best cooked chicken breast i have ever eaten (no exaggeration). They did forget our son's meal at first but it happens.
On our way from Albany to Bussilton and thought we would pop in for breaky. Well it was superb best breaky. Not only were the staff friendly but the owner made us feel so welcome and talked about the local area and other parts of WA. if anyone is travelling from Albany dont have breakfast there, hang on until you get to Mt Barker.
Good was magnificent - old style, adjusted to how we wanted it...I’m low carb, so no trouble to deconstruct my burger, SO good!!
My kids said they’d like to live here so they could come more often!!!

Delicious generous portions cooked perfectly!!! Sticky BBQ sauce on the ribs was to die for. Only just left and planning our next meal there. Super friendly staff and head chef is great and so welcoming :)

Travelling home from Albany this morning we called in not realising you didn't open until 8. It wasn't even 7.30 but we were made so welcome and had the most amazing bacon and egg sandwiches and coffee to die for! Thank you so much, we will definitely call in again :)
We don't get the chance to go out often, so this morning we decided to go to Happy's as an end of school holiday treat! What a good decision that was! The atmosphere was great, coffee delicious, food cooked to perfection, and last of all the service was exceptional! having two young children usually makes outings a little difficult but this morning was fantastically stress free! Thank you to all at Happy's <3
An absolute find while travelling on Sunday - great food, amazing service, friendly, great atmosphere, extremely clean (including the kitchen).
Only thing to watch is that's its hard to tell if it's open from the street. If unsure then try the door - you won't be sorry.
Great country service, big portion sizes for the food, drink size for the coffee i had was small for the price.

Fantastic meal yet again. We have never seen or tasted such an amazing chicken parmiagana. And huge serve!. Perfect chips, great porterhouse steak. Jason, Grace, young Riley and Michelle are doing such a fabulous job keeping customers happy in their popular MT Barker diner/cafe. Well worth the short and pretty drive from Albany or Denmark for brekky or lunch. All we can say is that you will be happy at Happy's!!

It is not that often that I will recommend to TripAdvisor to add a venue missing from their records, just so I can leave a review. I was on holiday from Sydney, and was travelling by car between Albany and Perth. Was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere as soon as you walk in, where the eponymous Happy welcomed us in and ushered us to next to the heater! We had Eggs Benedict and bacon and eggs, with a soy latte and a hot chocolate, and could not fault anything. I love it when you have preconceived notions about "middle of nowhere" diners due to unfortunate past experiences which are completely debunked by such a great experience as this was. It was on a Thursday morning that we visited, and the energy in the café was especially electric as they were preparing to open for dinner for the first time that night. I believe he used to be a butcher - which for some reason seemed right as every butcher I have ever known has been the most down to earth and friendly bloke. This is exactly what we got here. Well done guys, and hope the dinner service went well!
Awesome fresh food with big portions in reasonable prices. We were a group of 8 adults and everyone enjoyed our meals. Impressive customer service. Highly recommended
Loved it the decor and service. Watching the chef cut off a slab of steak the milkshakes yumm. Really enjoyed!!! glad we turned off the main drag and discovered a hidden gem. Thanks guys!!!
Awesome food, the burgers are amazing, fish n chips crispy, and nachos you'll be tasting through the next day they are so good.
