Not as bad as other reviews suggest, just super busy and generally crowded so can be hard to get a table. Given that it's right at the entrance to the busiest chairlift on the mountain you can understand why.
First time visit to Mt Buller and the price tag to a lot of things is expensive, maybe because many of these businesses operate only operate during 3 months of the year of snowfall.
Up the stairs to the sale yards and ski lifts lies Cattleman's Cafe which I decided to check out what they serve there. They mainly serve toasties, pannini, bread rolls and the like.
I chose the special of the day, toastie with mayo, silverside, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, pickles, mustard. Order at the bar and take a table number and find a free spot. The staff are nice and there is a service element here which is nice to experience.
Within a jiffy the toastie is served. When you're hungry things can taste a lot better but this toastie is delicious, a lovely mix of ingredients to contrast against each other. Sauerkraut counteracts the meatiness of the silverside, slight acidity from the pickles against the Swiss cheese, American mustard for that tang, mayo for a bit of richness. Certainly hit the spot but like a lot of things at Mt Buller, also the hip pocket ($18).
