Will definitely come back again. My father and I came for Sunday lunch, and we both had only a hot and sour soup, which was delicious. The restaurant was busy and noisy, and it was clear that customers were here because they know the food is great.
We were there only non-Asiatic people there... And to us, that's a good sign! Lots of items on the menu that we want to try.
The only criticism is the cheap, flimsy napkins.
Celebrated my grandfathers birthday here for the first time, and was pleasantly surprised with the food. From the outside, you it is situated just off springvale road, hidden almost. The interior is quite a cosy layout. Food came out pretty fast, and I was very impressed with the roast duck. It was delicious. All the other dishes were also really good !
Located in a small strip of shops between commercial complexes and residential streets, we never would have known about this gem had it not come up in my Zomato stream. We have only eaten here for the first time but will definitely return. We liked the simple decor, friendly service, and short wait time for delicious food. The sweet and sour chicken in batter was perfectly cooked. Our other meals were also delicious and the ingredients were so fresh. We will try more of their seafood dishes on our next visit after seeing what other tables had ordered. Reservations are recommended as it filled up quickly on a Friday night and it’s not very big. We were lucky to get a table because we were planning to leave before the reserving party arrived.
Highly recommended.
The lunch special are great value and quite tasty. I've been here a couple of times now and highly recommend the spicy beef. It's not fancy but it tastes good.
Haven’t been to this place in a long while but it was definitely a staple restaurant for the family dinner.
Always had a sweet spot for the desserts here.
An unusual location in Mulgrave a hidden Chinese Restaurant. The food tastes fresh, is well made and full of flavour. The dishes are responsibly priced. Definitely a stand out among other Chinese restaurants
Hidden away, afar from sight, the traditional and humble, Chopstick Delight. Using traditional methods and recipe, Chopstick Delight focuses on fresh produce and allows each component to shine without over saturating the dish with flavours nor salt. Taking pride in their dishes, the staff explains the stories of each dish when we asked about them. With friendly staff and a wide variety of options, this humble restaurant will continue to delight.
Chopstick Delight is like your typical Chinese restaurants served by lots of Chinese aunties who will assumed you are also Chinese speaking Asian cause you looked like most Asians, but sadly I can only said “bu ke yi jiang hua yi” or Cannot Speak Chinese –. which kind of contradicting I must say.
Came to try chopstick delight for the first time last night with some friends and have to agree with most reviews here - it is a hidden gem. Needs some much needed reno outside - it looks like your average local takeaway joint and only about 10 tables inside BUT the food is really good! Staff could do with a little tweak in attitude - they seemed to be impatient with us when we asked them for recommendations.
We had the pipa duck, sweet n sour pork, sizzling Japanese tofu and stir fried Chinese broccoli with preserved meat and steamed rice. Everything was delish - and being how small the restaurant is I was surprised at the quality of the duck that was served - much better than many other bigger Chinese restaurants out there. They also provided complimentary hot sago as a dessert which was a perfect finish to the night. Overall, for 4 people it cost us $110 - very reasonable for the quality and serving size we received. Will definitely be coming back!
A little hidden gem. Food were excellent, the lobster dish is to die for, that buttery creamy garlic sauce were so great in favor, I can’t stop eating that sauce. And you can also order deep fry bun to dip in and finish off all that sauce. Portion wise - It is quite generous portion with that price tag. Service were great and prompt. However, it is a small place with very limited tables and it can be quite noisy if they are packed. And was told they will be close for 6 weeks holiday in December/ January.
Despite the tiny size and unassuming interior, this restaurant offers high quality authentic Cantonese cuisine. Pre-ordering the pipa duck is a must! The duck is bursting with flavour and the skin is so crispy. The snow crab with XO sauce was delicious too. Will definitely be back to this hidden gem.
Food is so delicious! Very good service all the time. Always the restaurant which we will recommend to all our friends. Duck & seafoods never go wrong!
Nice food and service at affordable price
There is not to much variety on menu but whatever available, taste is good.
Good option for lunch.
Never judge a book from the cover! This restaurant may not look appealing from the outside, but it offers the best authentic Canton dishes in the area!
Their homemade tofu is silken and delicious! Their seafood especially the fish, crab and the lobster are very fresh and well cooked. We tried the chicken as well but it was slightly too salty.
Like the complimentary dessert, it’s different everyday! Will try their slow cook soup next time, it looks and smells absolutely wonderful!
By the way, the small scale of the restaurant with very limited space and noisy atmosphere may turn you down, but isn’t it just the way it feels like in Hong Kong or most China Canton districts? LOL
Chopstick Delight doesn't look much from the outside - or inside to be honest - but the food is worth travelling for! Serving up an extensive range of Chinese/Cantonese dishes, it's a great place for bigger groups (more dishes to share). Flavours are awesome and prices are very reasonable. . Would be back for this!
Tucked away and almost hidden amongst a row of unassuming shops in a quiet residential area is the inconspicuous Chopstick Delight. One could certainly be forgiven for not realising its existence as this gem of your good old neighbourhood Chinese restaurant is almost unnoticeable unless known through word of mouth as it certainly deserves to be talked about.
Don’t be fazed by its decor as it’s a typical Chinese restaurant getup but come here if you want assurance of good tasting Chinese food. We came here as a group of 12, and all the dishes we ordered were spot on in flavour (very tasty), price (reasonable) and portion (very generous servings). Tonight’s dining experience consisted of mainly CD’s signature dishes - soup, snow crab with noodles, king crab with noodles, abalone, veggies in garlic, coral trout (cooked two ways as the fish was really big), pei pa duck and kampung (free range) chicken.
For such a simple, modest and unostentatious place, this suburban restaurant is definitely popular and booking ahead is highly recommended especially on weekends. Check out this place to understand why.
My wife, parents two of my young ones all went out for dinner to chopstick delight and was pleasantly surprised with the amazing food that they served. The ambience and decor is just like an ordinary old school Chinese restaurant but the food blew us away and the girl who looked after us was very hospitable and welcoming.. definitely going back there soon
Oh what a name… I chuckled when my work colleague recommended this place to me. I love it when Chinese restaurants put two random words together, and voilà! I couldn’t picture the location when my work colleague was describing it to me, and when I got there I soon realised why. It was nestled within a small strip of shops amongst residential housing. If no one tells you about this restaurant, then chances are you’ll never drive past it. Well I guess that’s what I’m here for, so let’s proceed shall we?
Booking is essential. We always preorder Pi Pa Duck while booking over the phone. The skin of the duck is very crispy, and the meat is soft. The crab with French goose liver paste and noodles is great, especially during the crab season, crab price is cheaper than other seasons and crab is tender and have a bit of sweet taste.
Chopstick Delight is a typical Asian place, really old furniture and decor and average Customer Service. But they excel where it matters, 'The Food''. Have tried number of things from here and i am yet to find something that i have not liked, That is a hard thing to achieve as they have such a wide menu. Have tried their Salted fish and chicken fried rice, deep fried fish with corn sauce on rice, Spicy salt chicken ribs, Chicken Omelette on fried rice, Salted fish and chicken vermicelli. During lunch time they have special deal where you can get any of the meals with a complimentary drink. The usual turnaround time after your order is pretty quick as well, which means you don't have to wait long to eat :).
27.07.18: They have had renovations completed recently and the interiors of the place look much better, I would have preferred if they had improved the outlook of the place from Outside as well but I am just nitpicking. The food is still as good, although the prices have gone up since the start of this year.
It's been a while since I've been to a Chinese restaurant so I went here today. I ordered the sliced beef with stir fried noodles, while my boyfriend ordered the salted fish and minced chicken fried rice. Both were quite delicious and I really enjoyed the food here :)
One of the best and authentic Chinese restaurants in Melbourne! We've been coming for dinner many years, always happy to see Cantonese dishes I grew up with. Parents felt like having crab noodles tonight so off we went.
The staff recommended Foie Gras Snow Crab, it's one of their signature dishes there apparently. I've always had mine with ginger and green onion so this sounded really exciting. The flavour was intense, crab was well cooked the noodles omg, we should have ordered 2 noodles instead, it was soaked in the heavenly sauce!
We also ordered a Greenlip Abalone which was slightly stir fried with vegetables. It was also served with shrimp sauce, just perfect!
We were talking to the staff about different types of crab, she also mentioned that they don't charge extra for different sauce base which is such a bonus.
If you are after amazing and reasonably priced Chinese food, give Chopstick Delight a try!
Who knew that nestled in the quiet suburb of Mulgrave would be this gem of a Chinese food place? All the food we tried was delicious and reasonably priced. We love the mud crab with ginger and spring onion noodles here but you have to call them to order in advance if you want to have it.
Came here for dinner with extended family; loved the tofu, fish paste veg and entries(pork neck, pictured). Service was pretty fast as well, docked a point for the imperfect pipa duck.
Pretty nice place to eat in a suburb, especially to get away from the high paced in most places. Meals are top-notch and great for family dinners!
***I cheated on the rating as the food is so good***
This is my favourite lunch spot for the tasty dishes and value for money! Regularly have both take away and eat in as it's very close to the office. It can get quite busy for lunch so best to book or go when they open at 11:30am.
$10.50 lunch specials offer generous servings and a free can of drink...you really can't go wrong. And their chilli oil has a great kick!
SERVICE: 3/5
Used to be quite bad with grumpy waitresses and a little slow but I found they've improved over the last year as long as you don't expect the red carpet rollout. They always get the order right, dishes come out in reasonable time and always piping hot.
Large take away orders have always been correct as well.
FOOD: 4.5/5
Great food for a casual eatery so I've rated it as such. I often find myself adding extra sauces or salt at many other places but here, all I need is that chilli oil and then TAKE MY MONEY PLEASE!
Favourites of mine are chicken ribs with peking sauce, duck and lettuce fried rice, sweet & sour chicken or honey chicken when that craving hits. Fried rice noodles with the egg gravy sauce is also nice.
DECOR & AMBIENCE: 2.5/5
That 2.5 rating is probably generous. Decor is honestly pretty terrible. Absolutely stuck in the early 90s complete with hand written fluro signs on the wall, a murky fishtank and sticky everything (carpet, furniture..you name it) BUT I will forgive because the food makes up for it.
KID FRIENDLY: Yes - spacious enough, I think high-chairs available
I hardly have the opportunity to venture out to surrounding suburbs but due to the recent, unpredictable Melbourne showers, I think its only wise to not get too adventurous - imagine walking in the heavy downpour, let alone walking in it. Service here is efficient and friendly, something uncommon in Chinese restaurants, unfortunately. It is located on a quiet street and while you may think there's not a lot happening at night, I reckon most of the neighbourhood is in here. While cash in the preferred transaction mode, they do accept card payments which does attract a small fee.
I put great stock into the restaurant recommendations by retirees. Why? Because they usually have more time to explore and quite often than not, their finds are along the lines of cheap and cheerful, which is right up my alley. Chopstick Delight is one of those recommendations from my mother-in-law and partner. This was a case of not judging a book by its cover. It looks straight out of a 1970s movie set of what Hollywood thinks a Chinese restaurant should look like. You get my drift? (scroll down for last pic to see how the image you have conjured in your mind's eye stack up). With a facade like that, I was half expecting the place to exist on a slow trade of Chop Suey.
We pre-ordered a dozen of steam oysters topped with garlic and black bean sauce. They were quite meaty and fresh. We also ordered a lamb pot, steam black bean sauce eel, a homemade seafood tofu, a black peppered soft shell crab. All of them taste good. Their signature is crab on glutinous rice, but need to preorder the crab so didn't get to try.
One of my favourite restaurant to go to. Tasty food with the ability to modify to diet restriction. Dinner can be expensive be but lunch is value for money.
Just tried it out for the first time. Service was slow, food took a while to get to us, but the duck was amazing (and huge)! Definitely recommend. The other dishes, fairly standard. You definitely have to book for a spot, especially on the weekend, it gets packed and waiting like gets long!
AMAZING FOOD!. Really hard to find a traditional Chinese restaurant in Melbourne. Famous for their live seafood, cooked fresh and so tasty! Really recommend their lobster tossed in garlic sauce and whole Pei Pa Duck, crispy skin and succulent duck. But have to pre order the duck few days in advance. Reasonable price and cheap lunches. My weekly place for chinese food!
Fab place for a cheap lunch. Food always good, espcially the Deep fried calamari with spicy salt and Spicy salt chicken ribs.
The best Chinese food in this area!
Very pleasing. One of my usual dinner places! it's cheap, fast, yummy and have never disappointed!! It's exactly what every area needs - 8/10 happy eater
A Hidden Delight - 7/10. Tucked in the outskirts of Melbourne is this delightful Chinese retaurant. Great food.
Saturday night delivery took 1.5hrs however food arrived hot, fresh and delicious. $4 delivery fee regardless of spend is disappointing. Lucky the food is good as it is pricey.
This place is goldmine. Small Chinese restaurant tucked away. Food was fresh, and full of flavor. Have been back many times since. Friendly service. An very reasonably price...
Food is authentic Cantonese flavor, recommend their roasted duck (around $69 each), melon soup and ginger & shallot fish head.
Truffle fried rice not bad, but a bit over-value ($35.8).
PS. Roasted duck and melon soup need call to book at least one day prior to arrival.
A local gem. Only know this restaurant through word-of-mouth. I recommend to book table prior visiting especially on a weekend. One of my favourite dine in restaurants. Recommended dishes: steam fish, duck(pre-order), winter melon soup (pre-order). So far, the dishes we ordered, have never disappointed us. Thumbs up!
Came for dinner tonight to try their whole duck, tofu and kale, winter melon soup, and claypot veggies.
I thought the duck, winter melon soup, and tofu dishes were worth coming back for.
Please note that you have to preorder the duck and winter melon soup
Good food, tasty dishes and fast service
Dishes are a little bit expensive
Highly recommended
This restaurant is located in Mulgrave, in one of the suburbs in Melbourne, not far from Dandenong. From the outside, it looks simple, and ordinary. But once inside, the space is bigger and there are lots of people and tables. For a Chinese restaurant, it had lots of Asian people, which is a good sign. I always look at who is eating and what they are eating when I go to a restaurant eg are there many Japanese in a Japanese restaurant, how many Italians (or who I can hear speaking Italian) in an Italian restaurant, say in Lygon Street Carlton. We had tom yum soup, braised fish, ma po tofu, seasonal vegetables, stir fried mushrooms, sweet and sour pork, eye fillet steak with black pepper sauce, seafood with beancurd and of course served with rice. The food came within a reasonable time, was hot and tasted good. Service was also good and staff, although busy, were attentive and responded to our requests quickly, such as refilling of tea pots with hot water, etc. When we finished our meal, we did not feel pressured to leave (like some other restaurants). Overall, good food coupled with pleasant surrounds, making for a good night out with family and friends. Happy to recommend it and come back.
Chopstick is a place of great food with consistency. Their food has always been amazing. The chilly sauce is just a perfect add on to the food and they provide a great tea as a complementary. You also get to choose a free soft drink during lunch. They have a wide variety of menu to cater for everybody's taste buds and their hospitality is equally amazing. A must visit place!!
