Food is so nice. The staff are really friendly and it has nice decor. Pricing and menu options are very decent! Will go here again for sure!

I went here on a Wednesday noon for lunch. I didn't see any of the salad options that are talked about in the reviews. Though the cafe has both outdoor and indoor seating with a lot of space, the glass display with options is quite limited. I didn't see a range of salads or soups or hot food options. Their menu has a couple of items but no mention of salads which I found disappointing. They do serve wine but that is not what I was going for on a Wednesday afternoon.

Amongst us, we ordered the salmon poke bowl, the prawn pasta and the burger. The salmon poke bowl comes with fresh/raw salmon, some edamame, some japanese green mayo and lots of rice. It's quite bland unless you mix all the mayo in which is not very healthy. At around 16-18 for that portion size, I found it quite expensive.

Their coffee is quite strong and bitter and could be made slightly smoother.
Service is friendly and quick.

In close proximity to Fiona Stanley Hospital.

Really remarkable service. I was considering the menu and one of the staff members came out from behind the counter to informally chat with me about what was on offer. They were happy to substitute the chips that came with my pulled pork burger for a gourmet side salad at no additional cost and they have student artists on display, which the same friendly staff member chatted with me about. The decor is rather cool and they have comfortable booth seats that seat small groups (up to 8 people).
Also they have these brownie-biscuit-buttercream-frosting-things that are just to die for. Glad I found this great place during my lunch break!

An amazing cafe right in the middle of the hospitals. Forget about the franchise cafes. Check out The General Sherman with is the only cafe in the area that serves really good coffee and excellent food.

The General Sherman
3 Barry Marshall Pde

A small business needs to be unique to exist and survive in this highly competitive world. The owners of The General Sherman obviously had thought long and hard about the statement above and they managed to be extremely unique with the location of their establishment: in a hospital complex.

Now, you might say, "There are plenty of cafes in hospitals." Yes, but not at this standard.

You will find The General Sherman cafe on Barry Marshall Pde, the main street that divides St John of God Murdoch hospital and the recently opened Fiona Stanley hospital. There are plenty of paid parking around.

As you walk into the restaurant, the funky interior decor and the smell of freshly brewed coffee will make you think that you're in a funky and hip cafe somewhere in Leedy, Subi, or Freo. Guess what? You're not. You're in a hospital.

It took me a while to process it in my brain.

Today was our second visit for brunch. It was sunny outside and there was plenty of natural light in the dining area. We ordered the pulled pork benedict, truffled mushrooms with spinach & balsamic glaze, a cap, a latte, and 2 babycinos.

We thought the pulled pork benedict was on point. Eggs were cooked perfectly and the hollandaise sauce was delicious. The owner, Charlie, told us that the pork is marinated and slowly cooked overnight and freshly pulled every morning. The result is tender, juicy, and melt-in-your-mouth pulled pork that makes you wanting more.

I was also impressed by the generosity of the truffled mushrooms dish. The combination of the mushrooms, the beautifully cooked spinach and that amazing balsamic glaze on a couple of sourdough toasts was definitely a winner for me.

The coffee is so good. Subtle but substantial at the same time. It's not the kind of coffee you would expect to find in a hospital. I'll return just for the coffee. And they have the Pay-It-Forward scheme, where you can pay for a coffee in advance for other people who can't afford it.

The kids were happily entertained by the colouring pages and coloured pencils provided and their babycinos.

If you check out their instagram page @the_general_sherman, you will also see that they do cronuts, donuts, croissants, and other bakery items. However, they're so popular, they normally run out by mid morning.

Overall, a fantastic little cafe in the most unusual place.

We go to the General Sherman a lot these days. Cute hot chocolate teddy art, pulled pork Benedicts (a little pricey but I guess a lot of work goes into it), berry Belgian waffles and breakfast wraps! I love their breakfast wrap - made fresh and yummy, with bacon, egg, spinach and a lovely relish that ties it all together really well. That's my pick at the General Sherman!

They only serve breakfast from 8am but fortunately they have some prepared bagels and wraps for dine in or take away.

Had the salmon rocket and mayo/cream cheese bagel which is so filling and delicious. It would have been better toasted or warm perhaps but there was a perfect balance of flavours...

Another morning; breakfast wrap was huge and full of crispy bacon, soft perfect omelette, spinach and a preserve. For the amount, it was really good value.

Pulled pork wasn't dry, hollandaise was absolutely superb, poached eggs to perfection!

Soy Long Mac; love the coffee patterns and great pick me up.

General Sherman on point. Perfect start for a working Monday week.

The summer bagel was really refreshing especially with the caramelised apple slice inside it. I would love more of those apple slices! This bagel was made from pumpernickel bread and consists of shaved Melosi Ham, caramelised apple rings, refreshing berry relish, cream cheese and spinach. The dense pumpernickel bread is quite similar in taste to rye but it has a tiny bit less calories and will marry well with thinly sliced smoked salmon.

Jeremy and David enjoyed their pulled pork burger while Caroline really loved her roast vegetables. The lunch meal definitely had a good generous portion as you can see from the amount of pulled pork inside the burger.

Back again and bought take away. The Salmon Sensation bagel was sensational! I love the pumpernickel bagel they use instead of normal bagel and they put heaps of cream cheese, yummy.. I already want to go back for this. Moreover, I bought 1 meat 2 sides from servery too: Chicken Maryland (tasty & juicy), Honeyed Carrots (soft and sweet, loved it) and Creamy Potato Salad (don't like this one, dressing wasn't good). To help me survive hot weather, I had Ice Coffee without ice cream, it's a good one. Last but not least, I also bought their awesome muffin for dessert, blueberry again, really niceeee.. I will come back soon TGS.

TGS is located inside Wexford Medical Centre building, close to SJoG & FS Hospitals. You can either have a made to order dish from their menu or just quickly grab something from bain marie section. They have many meat dishes and different type of salads to choose.

Me and my friend shared a large combo, consists of 2 meats and 2 sides. These are what we had:
~ Spicy Pulled Pork: Ok but not spicy.
~ Beef Stroganoff Meatballs: Really dry. I wouldnt order this one again.
~ Quinoa Salad: Good
~ Sweet Potato Chips: Good
VERDICT: Descent portions, flavours were there but not "punchy" enough, service was quick and efficient.

My mocha was good. It looks so pretty with latte art done. This is what all cafes should do :)

TAKE AWAY:
~ Blueberry & Apple Cinammon Muffins: Nice & moist.
~ My cronut lover friend said the cronut was good and not oily.
~ She also said that the Matcha Latte was good. I am looking forward to try this one.

NOTES: TGS have a nice decorated venue, perfect for catching up with friends. Just be aware that you also need to pay for parking (if you are driving) on top of your meal cost -> I paid $6 for about 2 hours-ish(?). My friend said first 30mins is free parking. So alternatively you can just buy your meal and drink for take away and have it somewhere else to save some money.
