Review Chingari - Nairne

Eriko Sugiyama
This place is the best gem hidden in Nairne. I have never been disappointed coming here. Their curries are absolutely delicious and their menu range from mild curries to scorching hot so there are plenty of options for everyone. Highly recommend this place to everyone :)

Dined in. Great service and delicious food. Beef cheek curry was outstanding. Everything was full of flavour. Loved it.
Adam Nettleton
Very nice curry, great to find a place that actually has a bit of heat to their curries.
David Cox
Vindaloo and Madras curiously underwhelming, the depth of flavour and texture. The garlic nan is a useful replacement as a sandal since it was so hard.

Really sad to get my Birthday takeaway tonight. Chingari used to be my favorite restaurant in the hills. Butter chicken was watery and chicken tough, lamb rogan josh I can’t finish. Naan bread tastes store bought with melted cheese on top. Not sure what’s happened here. But this happened a year ago and we were hoping it was just a fluke. I’ll be having toast now for dinner as I can’t finish this. ☹️

Opinion bajhi was great. The curries were average. Watery Sauce, lacked tang & salt compared to everywhere else. Lamb and beef was very lean lacked that slow cooked feel, chicken was huge pieces. Wasn’t cheap, did not feel we got value at all.

Tucked away in Nairne, this would have to be one of the best Indian restaurants in the Adelaide Hills. A wide range of dishes prepared with authentic Indian spices. If you have that one person in the family that doesn't like Indian food stopping you from going to have Indian, no problems there's a beautiful BBQ grill menu to feast on.

Absolutely loved it. Had the barramundi fish. It was cooked perfectly. I can't recall eating fish that good before, even from some of the most expensive restaurants around Adelaide. My partner loved her chicken too. Lovely service. Couldn't fault the place.

Fantastic service, friendly welcoming place and the food was to die for. Lamb Saag Gosht, chicken madras and cheesy garlic naan, not to mention a taste of home made salted caramel ice cream. This restaurant will become my local in Nairne having just moved here.

Food and service was amazing. The lobster, egg plant curry and the onion bahji's are a must. A true taste sensation and well worth the drive. Thank you

Just had our first meal (take-away) and it didn't disappoint! We've lived in the Hills 12 years & only just decided to try It! Great to find an Indian restaurant that is authentic & serves 'real' Indian food. We will definitely be back!

This is the real McCoy. If you are serious about Indian food, it's worth the trip.

My partner and i were really looking forward to having our dinner Saturday night untill we got home. butter chicken tasted watery compared the the tikka masala that was way to spicy to eat and not to mention the huge amount of oil in it plus the lamb rogan josh was very oily. we didn't even end up eatting it all as it wasn't edible. Very disappointed..and a waste of $75

Looking forward to getting back to our favorite Indian Restaurant Chingari in Nairne. Kamal and his team provide excellent food and service - wonderful Indian dishes - my favorite the duck or anything Tandoori, Neville all of the dishes, grandson anything HOT and Kate like her father loves it all. No imposition at all to travel from Strath to Nairne sooooooo worth it. Thanks Kamal for always looking after us and knowing just what we love.

Best Indian in SA by far! Even a simple butter chicken has incredible flavour. Don't forget to try the cheesy garlic naan!

I had heard a lot of great reviews for Chingaris so I decided to have a sus and see what the whole rave was about. I ordered my favourite curry saag gosht, however, I was highly disappointed as all I could taste when eating it was salt. The naan also had quite a rubbery texture.

Despite my first experience I decided to try it again taking into consideration the chef may have been having an off day. The second meal I had the naan was great but again I was disappointed by the dish of lamb Rogan josh that I had ordered being again quite salty. Not only did I have a repeat bad experience with my dish but the lady at the check out overcharged me $20 which I did not realise until I got home

It is well overpriced for the quality of what you are getting and it's fair to say that I will not be coming back here.

Chingari. This was THE go to Indian. The place we raved about, ordered from so many times. Visited as often as having no free baby sitting and living in the hills allowed. The place for amazing Indian food, even better than we could make it (and that's tall order).

Somewhere though, things have gone awry. A few dodgy take a ways in a row and we looked elsewhere, and found another relatively local place that trumped it.

However, another chance was offered. Friday night, busy, should mean things are better.

Sadly not. It wasn't bad, but just tasted and seemed rather more commercial. The sauces were clearly from the same base, the heat tasted rather artificially added than gently cooked into the spices, and the balance and depth of flavour just wasn't there. Chicken tikka masala was nothing like it should be. It wasn't unpleasant, just lacking. The malai kofta smelt great and looked the part, but again it came across as overly manufactured.

The naan bread was good, and the onion bhaji quite tasty, but really it all was just a few notches below what we have experienced going back a couple of years. Still a great place to visit, lovely chef and friendly staff but the food has come off the pedestal we had it on, and there are sadly some better options around.

Go back to basics. Really look at how this is being done and deliver the authentic, lovingly crafted curries you can make. Please!

I'm not sure why there are so many rave reviews. The owner is lovely, agreed. Ambiance is a bit 1980s but it's ok. The food is ok, but not "the best ever". We often get takeaway and have a shock at the price, and the servings are not large, naan is soggy and rice is extra ($5!!!) - for that reason alone we have stopped frequenting this restaurant. I'm all for supporting small business in the Hills, but this one is having us all on.

2016: my opinion is the same and if anything I'm even more disappointed. Paying for white rice may be an Adelaide thing, but not on the east coast. I wouldn't call those breads "naan" We've all forgotten what real naan should be (and without a tandoor they can't make it?). We all woke up at 2am needing water which suggests msg or heavy salt and additives. Sorry, we are done here.

Walking in the friendly owner Kamal will make you feel at home as you will enjoy one of the tastiest indian meals in the Adelaide Hills. My fiancée had the butter chicken and I had the Chicken Madras, both full of flavours and great servings. We also enjoyed a tasty garlic naan. We actually got engaged that day and were celebrating with a nice romantic dinner, Kamal gave us delicious home made Turkish delight and pistachio ice cream on the house which we did not want to end. Will definitely eat here again.

We have been living in the hills for just over a year and have had a chance to test out some restaurants in the area.
We weren't expecting to find an indian restaurant that rates higher than the ones we used to to go in the city. The food is so authentic. There are some curries that smack you in the face with so much flavour it's soo good.
The owner is a really nice guy and is always welcoming and never grumpy. Well done chingari we love you.

Best vegetarian Indian ever! Such a hidden gem in the Adelaide hills. Thank you chef for an awesome meal.

Not as good as other reviews would have you believe. The curries we had were nice enough and the staff were friendly and attentive, but there were a few things that we think could be changed to improve the restaurant.

First of all, the samosas were not exactly fresh. Dry, tough and lacking in spices/flavour.
Second, perhaps they could dim the lights just a bit? It is very bright inside.
We were hoping this could be our new favourite local Indian restaurant as Arya in North Adelaide is just a bit too far now.

Honestly I make a better dal myself at home and the curries at Chingari are on the pricier side, so we will probably not be back.

The best in the Hills. Without a doubt, Chingari is the best Indian restaurant in the Hills.

Excellent flavours and attention to detail, you can tell there is a lot of experience here. Love the fact that the chef and owner comes and talks with customers.

Try it - you will love it.

Beautiful Indian Food. This restaurant is an absolute jewel in the Adelaide Hills. The service is fast, outstanding and courteous, the food is beautifully prepared with WONDERFUL authentic, high quality traditional Indian flavours. This is a real treat for our small vegetarian family as it is often hard to find places to eat out. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this restaurant to anyone. You come away feeling well nurtured with wonderful Indian flavours lingering.

Great Indian in the Hills. After visiting India last year hubby and I have very high expectations of Indian food. We were pleasantly surprised by Chingari in Nairne. I had been once before quite a while ago and we decided to try it for takeaway on Saturday night. We had a mix- Saag Gosht (Spinach Curry with chicken), Aloo Gobhi (Cauliflower and Potato curry) plain naan and a serve of rice. It was delicious. Moist chicken, perfectly cooked potato, the curries couldnt be faulted. The naan had been raved about but I would have to try it in house to rate it properly, it was very soggy. We will definitely be going back soon.

Hidden in the Hills. We are fortunate to live very close to Chingari. Every time we have been it's been packed to the rafters but still the service is timely and the waiting staff are not intrusive. The meal just flows with lovely food and a menu sure to please even the fussiest eaters. It is the one night we shrug off our sensible eating and delight in such things as butter garlic naan bread and butter chicken! My favourites. For such a small town, Nairne packs a punch with this hidden gem. If you are looking for excellent food, fantastic service and a wonderful dining experience you can't go past Chingari. A true family owned and run business with a passion for giving you a memorable dining experience.

A real little find. Loved the food and the attentive service. These guys were flat out last night but the timing of our food service was perfect. We will be back.

I have never had Indian as good as this. It really is divine . Service is friendly and quick. I could eat this food for breakfast lunch and dinner for the rest of my life. Every dish is good although never been keen how Indians do seafood always a bit overcooked. Highly recommend you will not be dissappointed

Something different in the Hills. If there's one thing the Hills lack, it's good Indian restaurants.
thats why Chingari is a great alternative to the limited options available to the discerning diner in this corner of the Adelaide Hills! So, if you don't feel like a pizza or fish and chips, drop into Chingari for an affordable but authentic curry made by one of the friendliest chefs I have ever met.

The decor is not luxurious but is comfy, and the staff are friendly.

The Food: a range of fantastic meat curries including saag gosht (a delicious, rich spinach based curry) are available, but my personal favourites are the vego options. Mattar Mushroom is definately worth a try, as is the malai kofta, a creamy, nutty curry.

To sum it up- great place to eat, you will not be disappointed.
