Oustandingly unique! I visited the Eatery in January 2016 with my brother while on a visit from England. We were greeted by Dennis and his wife and subsequently "entertained" by Dennis. Inside, it's like a cross between a restaurant (with beautifully-set tables, chairs, cutlery, napkins, etc) and a museum. Dennis and his wife really make this place what it is, and they have as much character as anyone I've ever met. I found them very polite, charming and different, albeit a bit direct, and delightful. Don't be put off by all the negative comments here - they don't deserve them. Next time I'm in Oz, I will go back for a proper nosh, instead of just a pot of tea (which was excellent).
This was an incredibly strange place and the owner does indeed appear to be the reincarnation of Henry VIII in all his debaucherous glory. The conversations you'll share are odd bordering on creepy, and the decor seems to all be for sale (even lamp shades currently in use within the bathroom).
Made for a solid pit stop on a country trip. Five stars, would definitely recommend.
PS - bathroom is for paying customers only, flaunt the rule and you'll end up like Anne Boyeln.
Ask for Dennis' world famous scones aka dev and tea/coffee. Prepare to be joyfully entertained by dennis, it's just like going to your grandparents but better! If you're traveling the region looking for an experience that isn't just your standard coffee/breakfast joint you could find anywhere else head to this eatery!
