Don't believe the reviews. I'm not sure why other customers are bagging this place? Yes owner may have changed hands but all the staff cooking are the same as previously.
I have found no difference in the quality and serving sizes.
Calamari melt in your mouth with a crispy batter. Fish great quality and cooked to perfection. Chips if eaten straight away delicious.
I will definitely continue to recommend and come back here
Yum. On the rare occasion I get fish & chips, Fish Tales is the first place I head for. The chips are golden delicious and the pineapple fritters are sweet and crunchy. The place is clean and very tidy, with friendly staff and efficient service: they run a tight ship! PROTIP: buy your sauces and drinks from the IGA next door, as like all fish & chip places they charge way too much for drinks etc
Pretty good value for money given the location.
Great Chips. This is one of the local fish and chip places and is by far the best of the ones in my area. The staff are friendly and helpful and you are often served by the owner. The prices are very reasonable for the Nedlands area.
We usually get $5 of chips and then cook our own fish at home (to cut down on price and fat) and the chips are more than enough for 3 people. They are usually done to perfection - slightly crunchy without any being burnt or undercooked and don't seem as greasy as a lot of chips.
The serves of fish are generous and 2 serves of fish and chips usually gets you 4 pieces of fish which is enough to feed 3 people (women anyway) for $25.
Great! You must try it!. Tucked into our first family feast at this establishment after reading the reviews. Currently at number three (86%) on urbanspoon (226 votes), Fish Tales provided a great feed for the family on a Sunday evening at 6pm. Surprised there were only a few customers, so we ordered two pieces of crumbed shark ($11 ea), two cups of chips ($5) and two crab sticks ($3 ea). I like my crab sticks crumbed but they weren't able to manage it, so battered was fine. Friendly staff, small menu selection, which made it easier for first timers. You can always tell a good fish and chip shop by their fish tank on display and this one had a lot of interesting fish which the kids loved pointing at! There must have been about six staff members behind the counter and they were pumping through the orders like true professionals. Only took 8 minutes 34 seconds to cook and we were quickly back home. We could have dined out as they had a few chairs and tables out the front, maybe next time. The taste... great! Nice, fresh, succulent and juicy shark (five pieces made up a total of the two shark servings ordered), chips were great but maybe a little underdone but their chicken salt was nice and evenly spread (hate it when someone over does the salt) and the crab sticks were okay. Two scoops of chips was enough for a family of four (I even took two smaller pieces of shark with the remaining chips to work the next day for lunch, so portion sizes were outstanding). After trying a few fish and chip shops around Cottesloe and Floreat since the start of the year, this was on par with the rest with similar pricing ($33) and taste. Next time we might try the $22 pack with another piece of shark for the family of four (this will provide a few extra seafood treats like calamari etc and complement the slightly smaller fish portions featured in the pack). All round a good effort by Fish Tales and we'll be back for more after sampling a few other top rating establishments. Nice job and keep up the great service!
Great friendly service, really fresh fish and decent sized portions
Best Chips Ever - Crappest Opening Hours. The fact that their fish and chips is the most awesome I've found in Perth only makes their erratic opening hours even move or a disappointment!
Great fresh & locally sourced. The thing we love most about this shop is it's no bull sh!t - you get exactly what you pay for! Fresh local fish hand filleted in store and cooked to your liking. Although lots of people have complained about the price on here, it's like most things that are of a high quality: you have to account for the owner going to the markets each morning to bid, yes that's right it's an auction, on the freshest catch of the day. Being a small business you'd compete with all the larger restaurants and chains i.e.: kailis etc. Then returning to store, hand filleting each fish and working out the price per serve based on that weeks market price.
No frozen imported bleached catfish sold as snapper here *cough*ciccerellos*cough*
They advertise their produce for what it is local or not, and if you ask the owner he will be happy to tell you where it comes from. It's cooked in rice bran oil rather than fat which means it's lower cholesterol and doesn't leave you feeling ill late through the night like many other places do. They offer gluten free and their fish is cooked separate from the chips which makes them allergy friendly too!
You can buy just fresh fish and around christmas the best crays around!
It's our favourite family spot for picking up dinner on a sunday to take to the river.
Good Fish n Chips. We normally only eat fish and chips once a year. Good squid rings. Fish was alright. Generous serve of chips. But $22 per head is expensive. Break the piggy bank, will be back more often.
Happy Endings. Yeah TimTams new favourite Fish Shop. Great flavours and service. Not a hugh menu but there is a good choice of fish including the fish of the week on special offer. And what a way to serve your fish and chips - in a pizza box - great idea guys. TimTam will be diving back in soon.
Seriously good. More of a "special occasion" takeaway this one, pretty pricey for the humble Friday night meal. We took ours to watch sunset at Cottesloe. Generous serves too.
The new owner is so nice! And boy does he know how to cook fish. I go and get myself a piece of the pink snapper grilled with lemon herbs at least once a fortnight and I tell you, it's the only thing that keeps me going. It's cooked to perfection, flavoursome and reasonably priced. Would highly recommend! I've been to a fair few of the various fish and chip shops in the Nedlands area over the last few years and this one wins by a country mile! Give it a try next time you're in the area!
Staff was extremely welcoming and polite. Order was promptly made and was particlarly generous considering the price. Fish was served in a pizza box which helped keep it crunchy and light for the drive home. Only downside is that the chips were slightly undercooked (I prefer them really crunchy).
I get the Hawaiian box every time and it's really good value for around $12
(2 fish, chips, 2 pineapple fritters)
Good to share with a pal or lover etc
Perfect amount of salt+vinegar (if vinegar is requested)
My family has been getting fish and chips from this place for ages. It is the best Fish and Chips I have had, we went to Sydney once and had the alleged "best" fish and chips in the country... It wasn't as good as fishtails at home.
Same great fish and chips, new owner, first try with new owners only con was smaller fish portion not much but noticeable.
Average prices (for the Nedlands area), but the food is worth it. High quality food. And the fish and chips meals come in pizza boxes which keeps everything crisp. Very cool.
