From the quality of the food to the hospitality of the hosts, its all 5 star
Easily the best Japanese food I've had out of Japan. Reminded me of my host mother's cooking in the Japanese countryside. Can't wait to go back!
Absolutely fantastic. Without a doubt this is one of the best Japanese restaurants in Australia. Every time I eat their food, I feel uplifted and happy. The value is absolutely insane when you consider the quality of their food. Impeccable seafood. Brilliant chirashi and hako sushi (the mackerel is a stand out). The eel don is wonderful as well; the best eel I’ve ever had outside of Osaka. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere a delight. I can’t think of a bad thing to say about Komaru. Truly perfect.
Authentic Japanese food, simple and lovingly made. Every dish counts.

Went to this place a couple times already and never disappointed. This place serves honest, simple and hearty Japanese meal. The presentation is beautiful and appetizing. Service is also very friendly.
Will definitely come back!!
Just authentic food, done humble and honest. Easily a new casual favourite of ours when we wanna have Japanese but not exactly “sushi”.
Highly recommend the Ara Daikon. It’s a super homey dish and will leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy inside :)
The sea urchin and mega sushi roll is definitely a draw but once you dive into the menu, there’s a lot more here on offer.
Wonderful! Don’t expect there are great service, but the food are very fresh! Believe me this is one of the best in neutral bay👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
A cute little Japanese restaurant which serves home styled cooking. I order from here often and really enjoy ordering their ara daikon (fish with radish), tako sato (octopus and taro balls) and carpaccio. The prices are reasonable for entree styled dishes (approx $6-$10 per dish). I rarely find any Japanese restaurants that offer this homey type of menu so it’s definitely worth a try!
The server was very friendly, and sushi was so fresh. The restaurant is quite small and squashy, so a reservation is recommended. I had the special sashimi rice bowl, and I want to have it again. I am not sure what I had was on the regular menu or not. :| The omakase is fully booked and never succeeded to book a spot.
This place has probably the best chirashi in Sydney. The sashimi is quite fresh and the soy sauce goes so well with the chirashi. The Osaka style sushi is quite interesting too.
Hidden Gem!
Absolutely amazing value for money food.
The place is small and my Japanese friend introduced me to this place. We went there for lunch and they had set menu options to choose from for just $15.
Had nigiri sushi (first time the wasabi was inside the sushi that proves it is authentic). Option of 5 sushi with kingfish, salmon and tuna as well as 5 rolled sushi too.
Next was teriyaki chicken which was absolutely amazing.
I am not a miso fan but theirs was tasty. There was a canapé of fried mackerel, which was nice too.
All this for $15.
The staff was really nice. The place was neat and clean. Will definitely visit again.
Simple traditional and tasty Japanese. Went on weekend lunch so it seems I missed the full array of sushis that I've been told about. What they did have was fresh and flavoursome
Was very luck to try the the weekly special. Cost indoor setting, but food is packed full of flavours. Freshly made. Good pricing. I was told there is always something new to try here! Will definitely be back!
Recommended by my Japanese friends, Komaru definitely left quite an impression on me. I came here with the family and was able to sample a number of lunch sets. I found the seafood here to be very fresh, with sashimi and sushi being the highlights. I also enjoyed the grilled mackerel that was cooked perfectly while all the food was beautifully presented. Prices were also reasonable with most sets under the $20 mark.
An authentic Japanese restaurant without the high price tag of fine dining in the city. Very cozy small restaurant and have friendly customer service. Might be abit of waiting time for lunch. Chirashi rice bento is the best and amazed by the arrangement by the chef.
Finally got a chance to try Komaru after reading the positive reviews.
The restaurant is very small so expect to wait if dining at lunch as they don't take bookings.
The food is very fresh and reasonably priced, the specialised in Osaka sushi so definitely worth a try. The standout is the yellowtail katsu set. The Fish Katsu is very light and non greasy.
I'll give your traditional Fish and Chips a run for their money.
Simply amazing, think Azuma or yoshii level freshness. So good the table next to us made a booking the following night when paying! Better than any meal I had in Osaka (and right up there with the rest of Japan). Whitebait karage was not oily and very fresh, the sesame spinach was similar to what you expect at any top restaurant. I was blown away by the kaizen chirashi and planning our next meal here.
It's BYO, so bring your favourite Japanese sake or beers.
Went back for lunch a few days later. Amazing value and the quality is just as good as dinner.
The salmon negishio at lunch is great. The wakame (seaweed) udon is large and very affordable, for one large full bowl being only $12. I highly recommend this shop and it’s food.
A small Japanese restaurant with great food and friendly service! Clam soup with sake and butter is 🤤 and the Kaisen Chirashi was on point👌🏾. Menu is authentic and unpretentious and the prices are reasonable. Highly recommended!
It’s places like this that make you regret going to an over priced japanese place… *cough* Sake *cough*… This place is so good it has me reconsidering what a great japanese meal in Australia is like, as it raises the benchmark by a lot. It’s small and cute inside. You will be greeted with inviting hospitality. You can expect some of the best japanese food in Australia and you will pay a reasonable price for the high standard of food they deliver. 2 People, Two bento style boxes, a super tasty aburi salmon, 2 drinks = $60 and a tremendously happy customer who will tell a lot of people about this place.
