Review El Nonno Restaurant - Newcastle

I ordered a pasta dish, was very tasty and good portions although my partner ordered the chicken schnitzel and was given a chicken marinara, and didn't enjoy it. We were discounted on meals for the misunderstanding at time of ordering.

The carbonara is the best I've ever eaten in my entire life. The creamy sauce is absolutely heavenly and executed perfectly. At first I wasn't sure if I could even finish such a large portion (which looked like it was served in a salad bowl), but after the first mouthful everything just disappeared into my stomach. I definitely recommend the carbonara, especially as it doesn't break the bank. Give it a try, once you start you can't stop.

Always great friendly service and amazing food never disappointed

Went for dinner here the other night with family and we were disappointed because it used to be really good here. The calamari was frozen, the chicken was chewy and didn’t taste good. The only good thing is the lasagna. Also they didn’t even have any ice that they could give you for your drink.

I'm in love with this place. Beautiful food and excellent service. No fancy pants frills. Just great food at reasonable prices. I generally avoid carbs, so when I order pasta I want it to be great. The pasta did not disappoint. My wife ordered the chicken schnitzel. I initially teased her for ordering chicken schnitzel at an Italian restaurant, but was then blown away at how good a chicken schnitzel could taste when I tried some of her plate. Definitely coming here again!

My partner and I went for dinner tonight, Amazing! Friendly professional staff and extremely accommodating as we had no booking.. The food was beautiful, fresh and so filling, fast and friendly service.. We will definitely be repeat customer's, very happy..

Great food and service. The owner didn't mind that one of our dinner party went to the other restaurant opposite and get a pizza from them it was his idea to keep everyone happy. Definitely worth going 😎

This place is horrible. Waited a lifetime for the food to come. Asked for chicken in my pasta that cost me $6 extra and I had three little pieces in it. Rude waitresses. Don't bring your misso here. Don't bring your fam. This place is washed.

This was our second visit to this restaurant both times it has been really packed with people waiting at the door. Although service was slow we didn't mind as the food was exceptional. The saltimbocca just melted in my mouth with a perfectly balanced lemon sauce. The pasta and meatballs were as Nonna makes. Love this place.

Haven't been to El Nonno for a while, won't be that long again till next visit! I like how you can have a conversation and even us old deaf folk can be a party to it especially outside. As always owner Alex and his team made dining a pleasure, food was great, service attentive and the atmosphere is really layed back. BYO is a winner also ensuring you can get your favourite wine or beer and saving a dollar also. El Nonno really is one of our favourite dining venues.

Best Italian food i have had in years & its was a fantastically priced.... I would recommend to anyone whom want a beautiful meal and be full and spend very little money. It is BYO but it is a plus to me as most other restaurants rip you off with wine etc Thanks you to all the crew & i hope to see ypu all again very soon.

My family alway go to El Nono for our family birthday celebrations but I was disappointed on Saturday night we were rushed out even though I had booked well in advance and I wasn’t told when booked that they were booking other people in for our table giving us only 1.5 hours wasn’t great

Honestly one of the best restaurants I've been to in the Newcastle area. El Nonno has the full package: great food, friendly staff and quick service! Will definitely be back again :)

A birthday dinner for our sone and wow what fantastic service, our waitress was brilliant, food was incredible- our first visit and we'll certainly be back again!

Ordered a chicken carbonara to take away. When we went to pick up, we were told there was no chicken left.. if we had of known there was no chicken at the time of ordering, we would have gone somewhere else. When we go home with the chickenless carbonara, we were left disappointed again as there was near to no cream in the pasta. Absolutely ruined my night

What's was ordered and what was served, vastly different, Several kids meals unavailable on a Sat. Night.. Bolognaise dishes had no sauce and very bland/dry. Complete.Disdappointment

Great food, Great Service. Disappointing to find a long hair in the pasta. They did provide a replacement for part of the meal but no other compensation

We must have come on one of their bad nights. We made a phone booking for two people at 8.00pm. When we arrived the place was full and there were no obvious tables to seat us. It was chaos! We were left standing without any attention until my wife asked for assistance. We were told a table would be ready soon and we were then directed to a table outside and informed to take a seat and as soon as a table was available we would be reseated. That didn't happen even though on no less than three occasions the waitress stated we would be reseated soon and twice again by whom I presume was the manager. Where we were seated was outside and with the direction of strong wind the rain was being blown across us. We watched other walk-ins get seated at the table were told was being prepared for us. Surely if someone phoned to reserve a table you would ask if they wanted in door or out door seating. Initially the waitress was nice but in my opinion on one instance was quite rude. She was pushy to take our order and as we were of the understanding we were going to be reseated we thought we would hold off ordering to allow time for our table to prepared, Her comment was "can I please just take your order?" The food was not impressive. My pasta was dry and the sauce was thin and watery and lacked taste. My wife's meal came with a dry salad (no salad dressing at all) and as she was informed "we're out of vegetables so are chips ok?" she had to have chips and a tasteless very small salad. A less than average meal that would make a small RSL club look bad. Oh and coke in a can, nice touch for what one would assume as a quality restaurant. We won't be back and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. My son whips a better 5 minute pasta courtesy of supplies from Woolworths.

Had mt doughters birthday lunch there she highly recomended the place but we were all disapointed in the service was quiet low grade but the food was great .i think we just got a bad day .We will try again
