Review The Lucky, Restaurant & Bar - Newcastle

We had the best little weekend getaway at the Lucky! The location is perfect to walk to the waterfront, cafes, restaurants, shops…anything. The courtyard is so pretty and a perfect spot to hang out for a few drinks and sample the very yummy food. And the rooms - wow! I did not expect pub accommodation to be of such high standard. Generous size rooms with ensuite, super clean, and comfortable bed. And the staff was so lovely. What more can you ask for? We’ll be back!

What a surprise package this place is. I met a friend who was staying in Newcastle the other night for a drink at The Lucky, not having really ever been beyond the front bar. Through the centre of this central icon is a super courtyard area which doubles as a beer garden and bistro. Its like an inner city oasis with green and light. We ended up grabbing a couple of plates to share as the menu sounded really good, and we were told that the new chef has taken things up a level. The dishes were substantial without being over done, and it was obvious that they'd used better than pub standard produce as everything was fresh and bright and super tasty. The menu catered for everyone but we liked the fact that there were really great salads and fish, and not only fried food like you find on so many pub menus. It has accommodation and all the rooms have ensuites, such a welcome departure to the usual pub standard accommodation, and they are spacious and super modern and so clean. Now when we have friends visiting us in Newcastle, I'll definitely know where to suggest they stay. This is a hidden gem.

Went on a quiet night. Food portions were on the smaller side but the quality made up for that. Most staff were reasonably friendly. Reason for the low review. I approached the bar while forgetting to wear my mask. I acknowledge my mistake and was then told I would have to eat outside. I respect and understand that these are the rules. However there was a group of 3 young white patrons, 2 of which had no masks on that were served before me and not corrected. Whilst I was outside looking in I saw several staff walking around with masks down their face. I can only presume the young bartender was racist as the other group weren’t kicked outside. Not to mention the every customer was sitting down without a mask on with some customers occasionally walking around without masks. It’s a shame that some people use these rules to discriminate. I was the only indigenous patron and the only one that was told to eat outside. If you are going to enforce rules then at least be consistent.

This is a great place to stay overnight and for food. We had the haloumi burger and the Superfood salad with chicken. Everything was delicious, the portions generous and they also have a good selection of drinks. The staff are lovely and the environment/vibe funky and welcoming. The room was clean and modern. Recommended.

Such a great spot to stay in Newcastle, 10/10! Very central location, Amber on the desk was a champion, rooms really nice and the pub was also great atmosphere. Will be back every time we’re in Newcastle

Popped in for lunch. Really great food. Awesome exposed brick outdoor type area was beautiful and warm. Unfortunately we walked in a bit lost and had to look for menus, where to order and staff. No biggy though. We will be back.

great atmosphere. DJ for music. Food was fantastic and staff very pleasant. Hard to get close parking. I recommend using the tram to get here as it is very close to tram station.

It has surprised me as before we were there many times and satisfied. But this time, the personal was unprofessional,..forgetting my order to put on the computer. Practically there wasn't any service. The new management ruins your reputation.

What an incredible venue. The process of organising a corporate event with 60+ guests is stressful, but the amazing staff at The Lucky were helping every step of the way making it all so easy, and it didn't stop once we arrived for our function. They were easy-going, delightful and so helpful the entire time. To top it off, the food was perfect. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

I'm not able to give you guys a higher rating because we weren't allowed in. My partner and I went there for dinner last night only to be turned away because he was wearing thongs. I get that a dress code is a dress code, but guys, you're a freaking pub. And you're not even a Sydney pub, you're a Newcastle pub so ease up.

Great reno on this old landmark pub with it’s restaurant in a great space with Americana menu. 1st class amenities (ie L’Occitane brand toiletries) although our room was a little on the small side but good enough for our one night stay. Loved our stay.

I just wanted to say, I was very grateful for Lucus's help this evening when it came to a request for vegan options. He was very respectful of my dietary requirements as were the staff when ordering. I was very impressed with the food I received and would highly recommend this venue for dinner, drinks and amazing atmosphere. Thank for a lovely evening �

I have just had one of those world changing and life altering meals. The brisket I just devoured endowed me with a new found love of life, a second wind to stave off the existential dread. This meal gave me hope, love and lust all in just few bites. My world forever rocked, like the way that beautiful women tell me it will be if I just let them take me home. I'm no sucker, I know when I'm getting played. Tonight I played Beethoven's 15th symphony (yes, it didn't exist till now) after eating this dream, this epiphany, quote that will respond through time. I have achieved perfection in the form of the Lucky's beef brisket. If you don't eat it, your life will never touch the sun.

Put A-League on with sound in the pub. Great beer, epic food. Cannot go wrong. Thanks guys ��

We came here after the movies as the other restaurants nearby were closing, no problem at the Lucky. Family friendly. Specials on most nights we tried the Wagyu beef cheeseburger with fries & a burrito bowl everything was promptly served & hot & tasty & fresh. Lovely courtyard area & friendly staff. Thanking you.

We ordered onion rings for starter-half cold. My brisket-extremely dry. Hubbys pork tibs were ok but very expensive. Mac an cheese side wat ro salty. Will not be back

Beautiful surroundings in the dinning area. The food was fabulous, and the staff were all very friendly and helpful.

First impressions were good, great eating area and very relaxed layout. Staff were friendly and welcoming, food service was prompt, the food was good and the beer was cold. What more do you need.

Very steep prices considering the chicken wings seemed to have been cooked with the heat of 1000 suns- truly charcoal chicken � Veggie burger had a very fragrant, overpowering sauce on it.

Great menu, great atmosphere. Can suit any group from a business crowd on Friday afternoon, to family dinners on Sunday. Showcasing live music from great local artists as well
