Review Ristorante Il Grifone - Newcastle

Absolutely fantastic every time. Never less than excellence. Delightful, professional staff always give good advice and take good care of you. Roberto cooks with love and great skill. Beautitul view and even when it's very busy it's not too noisy. Delicious food, lovely staff, beautiful atmosphere. Perfect every time.

Great food and service! Waiter was lovely. I had the Marinara pasta and it was absolutely amazing. The seafood was so fresh, particularly the mussels, some of the freshest I’ve ever had. The pasta could use some more sauce though. Overall, great place and would definitely recommend

Spectacular meal. The entrees were simple, mostly just charcuterie, cheese, olives, but the produce was high quality. The fried calamari was delicious, it had a very light batter and was very fresh. The mains were the star of the show, the lamb was perfectly cooked and expertly seasoned, and the gnocchi was light and fluffy with a beautiful sauce. The side dishes with the mains were pretty basic though, mostly steamed vegetables and roast potatoes. We were here as part of a function of around 50 and we had the whole place reserved, so of course the service is different to regular dining. The staff were very attentive and friendly, without hovering or being overbearing which is a tough balance to strike. Overall it was a bit pricy, but for the quality of the food I think it was well worth the money.

Well, after a 45 minute wait despite most of the restaurant empty, we finally got our order. (4 people in total). The Steak was over cooked , gravy was insipid and the potato mash smelled like it was left open in the refrigerator for too long. The Toscano should not be ordered - too little and flavourless. The quantity of the Spaghetti is also too little for the money. The Pesto Tortelini was a bit of a saving grace , but could have been served much warmer. The over all food price is not that great either, however one can pay $48 if the steak is really good. What's good? The harbour view is. Try at your own risk.

Service was good, food was pricey. Would probably go to the Italian place at Queens Wharf instead. 3 stars. Gnocchi was soft and fluffy. Not the most memorable gnocchi ever tasted. Flavour was really plain, but what else would you expect when you mix potatoes, mushroom and flour together? The taste of truffle was very subtle, almost non-existent. The chicken risotto was just sad. Chicken was over cooked and tough. Rice was over cooked. Dish was also cold. I should note, we originally wanted to order the wholemeal pasta with lamb and pea sauce but it had sold out. It sounded amazing.

With authentic Italian dishes, based around freshly made in-house pasta, Grifone is an amazing escape to Italy through traditional cuisine and friendly service. I had the pleasure of enjoying a three course meal with wines and it was amazing. The decor and atmosphere is wonderful and makes the experience very pleasurable, with a lovely view of the water and distant lights of industrial harbour. The Salmon main was hands down the best fish I have ever had and the pasta

A 50th birthday dinner could only have three things to accommodate themselves; one is the family that they have which supports his self-esteem and being a family man, two is of course money if you have to and taste food of your own choosing and three... coming to a beautiful restaurant like Il Grifone to give you the high quality of appreciation with Italian food. Unfortunately, people often sometimes leave bad reviews for the sake of spreading the word, but now I feel that once I visited and ate at Il Grifone, it changed my whole mindset! We ordered a delicious bunch of bruschettas and garlic breads which had the flavours (and oils) to make your mouth water, next we had the beautiful, light, soft pillow like bowl of Gnocchi which absolutely was beautiful with the tomato sauce, basil and mozzarella. We also had the Barramundi which was absolutely the best fish we ever dug our mouths into, the seafood spaghetti took the best approach when it comes to combining one Italian dish into one with a plethora of seafood to eat. The most delicious, most mouthwatering thing of it all... was the beautiful Tiramisu, it had everything that you would expect in a normal birthday cake and turnt it on its head into a beautiful cake. The last thing I want to say, is that Il Grifone is the best place to go on any occasion, Christmas, Easter, Bastille Day, Anzac Day and all of the holidays in the world can celebrate by visiting and filling up the tables and chairs in Il Grifone.

I absolutely love this restaurant, my first experience here was to die for!!! its beautiful food and lovely service. However i have to say on my last visit. The mushroom risotto wasn't as tasty as I feel it could have been. But I will be back in hopes to bring it back to 5 stars. 🥰

Nice food and a lovely waitress however the whole experience was ruined by a very rude manager who advised our group (very rudely) that we were too noisy despite us not displaying any unruly behaviour and no complaints from other diners. He did not comment to another noisy group sitting close by. We were then told we were being served shared platters rather than individual servings from a set menu as advised when booking. Very disappointing to go to a restaurant and not feel welcome to converse and laugh amongst friends. Would not recommend. The wait staff remained professional throughout; I do not envy them having to work for an unprofessional and rude manager.

We noticed this restaurant had a lot of bad reviews but it looked like it was from a disgruntled employee. So we went ahead and booked anyway giving them the benefit of the doubt. My wife and I were seated at 745pm we waited for a menu which was flicked onto the table as he walked past. The male waiter was so rude, and aggressive we have never been spoken to like that at a restaurant where we are paying for a service and food. Ordered a spaghetti marinara and a gnocchi. Both were terrible the spaghetti was so over cooked watery & the seafood was almost none existent. The gnocchi was tasteless resembling more of something prepackaged and heated up. Terrible that two classic Italian dishes were so poorly done in an Italian restaurant. The waiter asked if everything was ok as he passed by. Our response was no not really he said oh what why. We started to say it doesn’t taste very good. We hardly finished completing our sentence when he rudely snatched up the plates so fast it just about spilt all over us. He then said what you want. We didn’t want anything else the waiter then aggressively said get out.
So the food was terrible and the service absolutely appalling waste of time and money.

We visited here from Sydney last weekend.
The Portside location is pleasant and interesting, the only negative being the noise from revellers at the bar next door. We had the steak, the bolognese pasta, the salmon, polenta chips and pancakes for dessert. The food was delicious and the service friendly.

Awful. This place is disgusting, the food is horrific and the staff are rude. Don't even think about taking children there or dare to breastfeed, they will ask you to leave without even offering you a menu. Appalling!

Great food. The food here is great and the team is very accommodating. Limited vegetarian options but the chef did make me a vegetarian meal which wasn't on the menu to accommodate my dietary requirements and it was perfect.

$22 for veal scaloppine and a glass of wine. Absolutely fantastic.
