Review Subo - Newcastle

My partner and I came here for our first date night after the most recent lockdown and the first fine dining experience in Newcastle since returning to our home town in late 2020. Firstly, the service was some of the best we've ever had. The staff were exceedingly friendly and knowledgeable, taking the time to answer our questions and exquisitely describe each dish as it arrived. Our location in the Glass House area at the rear of the restaurant was brilliant. In what I assume used to be the back yard, we found ourselves seated in a greenhouse surrounded by night; the glass reflecting the nearby candles and low interior light to create a delicate and warm atmosphere. The food was not only immaculately presented, but also divine in taste as well. There were several combinations I was dubious about when contemplating and pleasantly surprised upon consuming. Sweet mixed with savoury on many occasions to produce unexpectedly pleasant flavours that absolutely blew me away. I cannot speak more highly of Subo, its staff, and the Chef. We will definitely be returning several times in the coming years to treat ourselves to their ever-changing seasonal menus and I suggest you do the same as well.

Amazing service and great wine list. Food overall was fantastic. A big focus on local ingredients which I loved. I personally found the fish flavour in Torton overpowered the other ingredients in the dish, but other than that everything was amazing. Will definitely be back.

Every bite was a beautiful experience. A very talented and inspired kitchen that’s worth the visit! I was planning on taking more pictures (before I took a bite) but I got lost in the meal! Oops

A surprise experience for us. The taste of the food was interesting. The combination of various ingredients were well balanced, rich in taste and unforgettable.

Food was good but not sure if worth the hype. Service was not reflective of a fine dining establishment. Waiter spilled water and wine multiple times (once the wine even went into my husband’s food lol) and continually reached across us to replace cutlery, serve beverages, etc.

We had a wonderful dinner at Subo, to celebrate our anniversary. Great fine dining, good service and all things considered, good value. We will be coming again. Thank you for a wonderful evening!

My wife took me here for my 30th birthday. They had good service, unique food, exceptional taste and great portion sizes. Deserves no less than 5/5 stars. We will definitely come again.

As visitors from Sydney, my friends decided to take me out for a surprise birthday dinner. We were completely blown away by the fantastic food and warm, friendly and professional service by the entire team at Subo, including the very personable co-owner Suzie Vincent.....even ensuring my name was spelt correctly in chocolate letter on the dessert! The mushroom medley starter and Singapore crab dish were the stand out dishes, amongst the beautiful selection of food. Unfortunately there was no room for the cheese platter after our last dessert was finished. Novocastrians are so lucky to have Subo in their neighbourhood. I can hardly wait to tell all my foodie friends from Sydney - to make their way to this gem of a restaurant.

Seldom do you find a restaurant that exudes both the kindest level of hospitality matched with daring, delicious food. Subo was a dining delight for my partner and I on a short visit to Newcastle to celebrate her birthday. Suzi and her elite service team welcome you into a warm & cosy dining room where you can smell the waft of crusty bread and culinary magic from the kitchen. The flavours of the food was genius and the wines to match made your cheeks blush. The service as mentioned above was simply the best - warm, attentive, humorous, and professional. I am already planning my next dining experience at Subo, hopefully in the not too distant future. �

This was a wedding gift 🎁We enjoyed our evening so much from the minute we all walked through the front door. The food was absolutely delicious, the wait staff were well versed with each course and their explanation added to the delicious anticipation, they are all impeccably trained and service was superb, all adding to the theatre of the evening. The matched wines were top notch and nit having to make any decisions was delectable. All in all it was a fantastic evening and well worth the 3 hour drive to get there! Thank you Peter and Julie. The Team at Subo never cease to impress! Chef Beau Vincent is epic w’the presentation & flavours that he puts on the plate! It is quiet simply stunning! The floor Team ably lead by Curtis are polished, professional but always have time for their customers. Hats off to you all. Throughly recommend

Highly HIGHLY recommend Subo on Hunter Street if you're looking for AMAZING food and a special treat. Our 5 course degustation was just beautiful the whole way through and service was fab not pretentious for a 5 star place �

My second time at Subo was just as (if not more) spectacular than the first. You can not fault the food, nor do you want too. The service i have received is the best i have received in any establishment and the waiter my boyfriend and i were served by most of the night was lovely enough to remember my complicated name and write a happy birthday on the plate of our last dessert, it was such a lovely thought, which will be remembered. I will always highly recommend Subo.

Was the perfect place to share an amazing wining and dining experience. We were celebrating some great achievements, a birthday, an engagement, graduation x3, overseas travel and new adventures. Staff were great and Curtis was outstanding. Defs want to do this again and can highly recommend subo as a must do, over and over again. Thanks heaps for a memorable experience.

Had a double date night on Saturday night. Has to be one off the best nights out, the food was outstanding along with the wine. Our waitress Hope was just beautiful and made our night just perfect. Definitely be back.

We have been searching for a brilliant restaurant for so long and have found it! The minute we walked in we were blown away. The service was second to none and the food extraordinary. I can't wait to go back in a few weeks to try the second Summer menu. Absolutely fantastic restaurant.

My wife and i have not been out in a while and wanted something intimate and different with good food. Subo exceeded all expectations, what a team!!! Not to mention the amazing 5 course meal.
