As visitors from Sydney, my friends decided to take me out for a surprise birthday dinner. We were completely blown away by the fantastic food and warm, friendly and professional service by the entire team at Subo, including the very personable co-owner Suzie Vincent.....even ensuring my name was spelt correctly in chocolate letter on the dessert! The mushroom medley starter and Singapore crab dish were the stand out dishes, amongst the beautiful selection of food. Unfortunately there was no room for the cheese platter after our last dessert was finished.
Novocastrians are so lucky to have Subo in their neighbourhood. I can hardly wait to tell all my foodie friends from Sydney - to make their way to this gem of a restaurant.
Seldom do you find a restaurant that exudes both the kindest level of hospitality matched with daring, delicious food. Subo was a dining delight for my partner and I on a short visit to Newcastle to celebrate her birthday. Suzi and her elite service team welcome you into a warm & cosy dining room where you can smell the waft of crusty bread and culinary magic from the kitchen. The flavours of the food was genius and the wines to match made your cheeks blush. The service as mentioned above was simply the best - warm, attentive, humorous, and professional. I am already planning my next dining experience at Subo, hopefully in the not too distant future. �

My partner and I came here for our first date night after the most recent lockdown and the first fine dining experience in Newcastle since returning to our home town in late 2020.
Firstly, the service was some of the best we've ever had. The staff were exceedingly friendly and knowledgeable, taking the time to answer our questions and exquisitely describe each dish as it arrived.
Our location in the Glass House area at the rear of the restaurant was brilliant. In what I assume used to be the back yard, we found ourselves seated in a greenhouse surrounded by night; the glass reflecting the nearby candles and low interior light to create a delicate and warm atmosphere.
The food was not only immaculately presented, but also divine in taste as well. There were several combinations I was dubious about when contemplating and pleasantly surprised upon consuming. Sweet mixed with savoury on many occasions to produce unexpectedly pleasant flavours that absolutely blew me away.
I cannot speak more highly of Subo, its staff, and the Chef. We will definitely be returning several times in the coming years to treat ourselves to their ever-changing seasonal menus and I suggest you do the same as well.
Amazing service and great wine list. Food overall was fantastic. A big focus on local ingredients which I loved. I personally found the fish flavour in Torton overpowered the other ingredients in the dish, but other than that everything was amazing. Will definitely be back.
Every bite was a beautiful experience. A very talented and inspired kitchen that’s worth the visit! I was planning on taking more pictures (before I took a bite) but I got lost in the meal! Oops
A surprise experience for us. The taste of the food was interesting. The combination of various ingredients were well balanced, rich in taste and unforgettable.

My wife took me here for my 30th birthday. They had good service, unique food, exceptional taste and great portion sizes.
Deserves no less than 5/5 stars.
