Retaurant Mason is an absolute experience and I cannot wait to return. My husband and I went in for a lunch that was gifted to us. The restaurant is gorgeous and has a really lovely relaxed and romantic feel on the inside. The decor is classic and seats super comfortable.
Firstly the service was sensational and very professional. The waiter knew everything about the food that was being served and told us where the food came from, how it was cooked which i absolutely loved hearing. He was so friendly and so lovely to talk to.
Secondly the food was sensational. The chefs at Mason are on point with every little detail. We enjoyed the scallops for entree (the garlic butter was to die for) and the Gnocchi which was a flavour sensation with the peas and fried onion. For mains we enjoyed the suckling pig which was so nicely done snd the housemade picalilli was such a nice touch. The 36 hour beef short rib was the highlight of the day.... i mean my life ! My husband and I have never has a steak as amazing as this one. It was pure joy and literally melted in our mouth. The black garlic foam with the steak was also an amazing touch which just made this dish to die for.
I now have found my favourite restaurant in Newcastle and I cannot wait to go again and again and again !
Great job Restaurant Mason your restaurant is amazing.
Next time I will be having dessert

My wife and I came here for our first anniversary. I have never had food as excellent as I had here. We had the 7 course tasting with matching premium wines and a cheese platter. Every dish just kept getting better than the last. Waiters/waitresses/sommeliers executed the meal delivery flawlessly. And to the chefs, just wow!! Words cannot describe the meal. Absolutely amazing!!!
I came here for dinner and really enjoyed my time. I ordered the 3 course which allows you to choose from 3 items on the menu of your choice for only $92. The dishes ordered were:
Entrees:
- Scallops
- Confit chicken wings
Mains:
- Sirloin
- Market fish (Jew Fish)
Desserts:
- Buttermilk Tart
- Malt
The highlights for me was the confit chicken wings, I loved the texture and taste of the jew fish and also the malt. At first the dessert was strange to my palate but I grew to enjoy it. I would recommend you book prior as the restaurant only opens for dinner on most nights. Must visit when in Newcastle.
I went here last Saturday for an anniversary dinner. We had the seven course degustation menu. The chefs obviously take great pride in their work. Everything was beautifully presented, and most of the dishes worked very well. There was no particular dish that completely blew me away, but I enjoyed all of it.
My dining companion had thought that he would be able to eat red meat, despite not having eaten any for seven years, but he couldn’t face trying his wagyu beef fillet. The chefs insisted on bringing him an extra chicken dish to replace the beef dish, which was extremely generous of them.
The service was very pleasant, and the pacing of the dishes was perfect. The ambience is quite nice, though it was a bit noisier than I would have liked. It was a busy Saturday night though, with every table full.
Time I got into some fine dining so a visit to @RestaurantMason for their 5 course degustation for dinner sounds like a plan. Excellent friendly service enjoyed in this warm inviting venue.
Dutch carrot, spiced labneh, cashews
A soft carrot held its shape but cutting easily, it pairs very well with the refreshing labneh and Middle Eastern spices. So yum.
Flame grilled snapper, Benito, chowder, crispy broccoli tops, lavosh oil
Very delicate flavours, touch of sweetness, warming flavour from the chowder, texture from the broccoli, a lovely start.
Also been enjoying the delicious maple sourdough bread, whipped butter with nasturtium salt and confit garlic. Amazing!
Pan fried snapper with fried wasabi leaf, wasabi and cashew pesto, sitting atop braised eggplant coated in potato flour, BBQ spring onion, served with a dashi broth
Wow, that dashi broth is amazing! Dashi with the softness of the earthy eggplant, snapper, and crunch from the leaf, excellent combination of flavours and textures.
Warm reypenaer cheese mousse, a variety of pickled mushrooms, brick pastry filled with tofu, Jerusalem artichoke, woodear mushrooms, and served with a barbecued onion consommé.
That cheese mousse is so rich! But with a bit of the onion consume, a slight sweetness and acidity cuts through the richness. Love the earthy mushrooms and crunch of the chips, but that brick pastry cigar of yum is absolutely amazing! Fantastic dish.
Roast Berkshire pork and glazed neck, crispy kale, buttered Brussel sprouts, grilled morpeth cabbage, apple and cider puree, thyme, and jus
The apple cider puree has quite a fizz and goes very well with the pork. But it's the neck which is most delicious and flavoursome, along with that wonderful jus. Love the crispy kale, buttery cabbage, and Brussels sprouts. Mmm, perfect meal for a cool winter's day.
Miso and caramel mousse, fried brioche crumb, nashi pear and sesame
A savoury dessert, the mousse is very rich on it's own but when pairs with the crunchy brioche crumb and refreshing summery nashi pear, what a combination of flavours. Very very tasty. So satisfied. A big thanks to @RestaurantMason for a wonderful dining experience.
Fabulous experience and wonderful food. Loved the meringue dessert and the mushroom tart was to die for. Will definitely be going again xxxxxxxxxcxxxxxxx c
A lovely restaurant I visited whilst travelling through Newcastle for business. Attentive service and good food. Options can be limited here so if you want quality dining I would recommend. I had 5 courses for $100 and for the quality of food I think this price is justified. Perfect for special occasions too. Dessert was the highlight!
Quite decent food here. I ordered a beef burger which came with a few large onion rings and some dipping sauce. My partner had the standard breaky dish with haloumi, tomatoes, mushrooms, and eggs on toast. (Photos attached). I'd recommend coming to this restaurant.
Excellent service here. Food was also very good. We had the wagyu and barramundi for mains, were impressed with both. Sago dessert was great, and they have a good wine selection.
We were welcomed with a warm friendly smile, our waitress told us she was quite new, but was so beautifully honest & sweet throughout the night, she also displayed quite polished service skills for someone so green. Well done to the management team
Our food was out of this world.
After waiting a while for a taxi, the owner/chef very kindly arranged transport for us & a number of other waiting guests.
These guys went over & above in every possible way, I can't wait to go back!!!
Excellent meal. Had an excellent meal for dinner. Both food and service fantastic. The best meal we have had in Newcastle.
Head & shoulders above the rest. We've come two years in a row for anniversary dinner. Both times in a row we've had good wine, great service and stunning food. The best beef I've ever eaten, this place really gives you bang for your buck with their delicious food. so much better than pretender restaurants that have the price tag without the quality
Restaurant Mason is an exceptional culinary destination in Newcastle - so good in fact that I would make a one hour detour to enjoy lunch or dinner at Mason before visiting the Hunter Valley.
I’ve enjoyed more than half a dozen meals at Mason over the years. Staff are warm and welcoming and the food would rock the counter-tops of any Michelin-star restaurant in Europe. The in-house baked bread with black garlic is divine and the triple-cooked chips is always a must-order.
My only wish is that the restaurant would re-locate to the Sydney CBD so I could visit more often!
Absolutely amazing food, service, wine and atmosphere. The flavours are delicate, delicious and world class. The best vegan and vegetarian options ever. For once we don’t feel like an afterthought. At the same token I can see plenty of happy meat eaters around me.
CovidSafe wise I felt comfy too, they continue to wear masks and the tables are far apart, oh yes and plenty of fresh air too.
I’ll be back here whenever I’m in Newcastle
Mason has restored our faith in a fine dining experience in newcastle. From the low volume music in the background, the lighting, the positioning of the tables and to the amazing food. We visited Mason for our valentine celebration and we were wowed. Highly recommend. I really hope the quality stays like this as we would like to visit this place more
Great value degustation and high quality. The scallops were absolutely a must order and the steak was as expected (perfectly cooked). I would however give the baklava a miss though - a bit ordinary. On Friday they had a night market close by that played live music that we were able to capitalise off so that was lovely.
Amazing place, have been recommended by our Airbnb host and booked in advance before our trip. Small quiet dining, with friendly staff. Each dishes were delicious and flavoursome. Highly recommend this place!!
Lovely location, small, intimate but not crowded dining space. Attentive staff without being intrusive. Beautifully prepared and presented food. Scallops, fish, lamb and gnocchi all well received and tasty! Delicious food, wonderful wine list and a great experience!
Lovely birthday lunch with the family. Knowledgeable and efficient staff. Food was all to a very high standard. Coca Cola was crisp and delicious.
Magnificent degustation with matching wines.
Service was wonderful. Very knowledgeable.
While dinner was booked out, at lunch we had the place to ourselves.
Staff were very kind and allowed us to take our time.
