This place is *awesome*. Old-school fish and chips done exactly right. Everything is laid out battered and crumbed, but clearly a busy place so nothing is sitting out for long. Friendly staff who I would guess are the owners. An example: when you order chips they don’t ask you to guess a serving size, they ask “how many people?” and figure it out themselves. Great calamari, perfect potato scallops, all the old favourites (seafood sticks and cocktails and so on), even pineapple fritters. These are great - two rings of pineapple in crispy batter, and you should get it dusted with cinnamon sugar. Ideally served back at home with ice cream. We ate too much for $10/head.
Also: very well set up for COVID-19, distancing properly and with plastic curtains to shield the staff. And they will do you a grilled fish (not crumbed or battered) if you ask ^_^
Shortland’s best kept secret! Whilst the prices are low, the food is still high quality with big portions - traditional takeaway style. One thing to note is that the menu is not online, but it is worth it to pop in to check it out, or alternatively I highly recommend the schnitzel, chips and gravy ($10) as well as the sweet potato scollops ($1).
Never had a bad experience so far ordering the traditional fish, chips, scallops and Pluto pup. Will venture to the burgers and calamari next time!
The chicken and gravy rolls are so yum, I highly recommend!!! And the fish and chips were cooked perfectly. Best fish and chip shop in Newcastle.
The food is cheap and goods af I always get food here
Cooked well and crispy chips
Lovely people
Good, slightly too heavy batter fish and fresh in house calamari. Nice fresh cut sandwich, and decent burger including works without default pineapple. Would go back! Good food, friendly owners and EFTPOS.
Love the fish and chips, always cooked to perfection I just wish they were open later in the day
