Review Mr Roboto's - Newtown

We said Domo Arigato to Mr Roboto and found it to be a very pleasant experience. Located within walking distance to the Newtown station, this is a fun little Japanese restaurant. While not breaking any records, the food is tasty and about on par with many others offering this cuisine type. They offer dumplings, sushi and tempura veg among others, with plenty of vegan options. The staff were warm and friendly, and the food was fresh and quick. Perhaps the best part is the decor, with hanging orange lights and some interesting specials on the board. It's suitable for dining alone, dates, small groups and other casual dining occasions.

What a wonderful evening full of delightful tastes and scintillating conversation. Within minutes of entering, winter halted. My first bite of soulful Japanese food, mixed with the calming miso soup fixated my cravings. I felt the regeneration of life tasting the chill of authentic Japanese beer. The mood was artistic, the space brimming with lanterns bobbing from the ceiling. House beats symphonic in the air. The staff cheerful and welcoming. I found a new local. A perfect place before or after a show. Whatever the occasion, I'll be back for more.

Fitout looked nice, food was not the greatest. Overpriced food. House special was pork and chive dumplings $10 for 6 pieces. Reasonably priced. But they just came out with microwaved dumplings. Skin was thick and unsavoury on the dumplings. Rice falls apart when you try to pick up the nigiri. Salmon nigiri well over cooked. Curry rice was decent.

While the food was nice, the service was a bit hit and miss and the waiter was often distracted on his phone. Two key menu items were also not available and we were early in the evening, so that was a bit disappointing. We did however get a complimentary nip of sake which was cool. It's a shame this place isn't busier given its location near the Enmore Theatre.

Like most yakitoriya in Sydney, it's ridiculously expensive for some reason which kind of defeats the purpose of yakitori. The music was too loud and repetitive, the same track played 3 times in a row before we left. The curry was though and the place looks good. Probably wouldn't go again, but hopefully it will improve.

The food was not nice at all and made my friend sick. The plates and glasses were dirty, I would highly recommend going elsewhere. They only had one wine from the list available (Although it was delicious) Worst meal I’ve had in enmore.

Turned up at 7pm on a Wednesday and it was closed! Someone needs to update their Google page...

Nice looking place but unfortunately the food was just average.
Pricing is a bit expensive for the amount of food that you get.
I've been on the lookout for good Japanese food for close to a year now from having returned from holidaying in the US and have not found anywhere good apart from Mikazuki in Parramatta.
You can walk to this place from Newtown station but might take you a bit of time so you're better off to drive and try and find parking somewhere.
Sake was good.

Some of the best sushi and sake I have had. Cool, cosy, and friendly, and the staff always make sure you are taken care of. I even saw David Gallop here once.

Place... very ordinary... Not airconned... And kids aren't allowed even tho It's no fine dining. Food... is ok... bit pricey for that kind of venue. Drinks. Decent selection of beers and sake... also overpriced for a non air conditioned cranky space.

Great food and sake selection
Sushi sashimi and tempura were delicius
Will definitely go back for more .
The staff is great and the service is professional but at the same time very relaxed and friendly
I would highly recommend this venue especially for a pre show drink and bite if going to the Enmore theatre or a quite date

Tori Bar is the reinvention of Enmore Road's old Bar Racuda, situated rght across from the theatre. Changing the theme significantly, Tori Bar offers predominantly Yakitori alongside some other Japanese options which is a sharp change from the old Italian. The place is decked out with red lanterns and countless sake bottles leaving it colorfully dim-lit.

Outside of the milder options, Tori Bar delightfully also offers a few of the more traditional offerings like chicken soft bone and hearts. The chicken tsukune is essentially a chicken kofta, blended with some gentle seasonings and served with a cooked yolk at room temp. Its tender but a slight bit crumbly, however the overall texture is relatively fine. The chicken cartilage is palatable. It is seasoned in a light dressing and still contains some meat and is simply grilled with no other accompaniments.

King oyster mushroom is flavourful and meaty as expected, however, the flavours tend to diminish once it cools, so tuck into this one once it arrives. The chicken hearts are firm but tender, with a relatively mild flavour that's easily enjoyable to those new to other edible parts of animals. I also really recommend dipping the hearts into yolk if you also order the tsukune. The chicken wing is a little sticky and sadly uncrisp. Chicken skin is the real winner and easily deserves a full fledged place on the regular menu. Some parts are crispy and some chewy, and as expected - there is solid flavour.

As Tori Bar uses an electric grill, it does miss out on the smoky element you get from charcoal grill yakitori. The place has got all the bones for a decent vibe, but during the weekend, the play list is a little off, low in volume from speakers only at the front of bar, as such, leave it feeling a little hollow. Its got a very decent but basic wine list, and rightly so, as its focus here is sake and beer. Dining with two - expect $80 plus for your average meal.
