Recently I had beer and dinner with Footy Almanac writers. Good atmosphere and great place to talk about footy. I feel the pub as the home of socialising in Melbourne. Percy is friendly and a gentleman welcoming and talking to me. It was a good experience to talk to a former footballer as a Japanese visiting Melbourne. Plus good to see his milestone at Carlton Football Club with photos. I enjoyed having beer and dinner and will go back at the next visit to Melbourne. All the best folks!
A hidden gem, plenty of character to it, staff on duty very welcoming, a blend of different areas to explore including courtyard, menu looks great although we were outside dining hours and didn't eat!
Charming and Welcoming does not begin to describe this great pub in Fitzroy North: Encompassing all that is good and great about the area: acceptance, diversity and great food! We all arrived in our "Kate" costuming after the "Biggest Withering Heights Day" in Melbourne and were accepted by Percy and Georgia and all the gang! They could not be more helpful: The food and drinks are reasonably priced and there are daily specials! Don't wait! Just head there today and enjoy what is one of the few old fashioned, unashamedly olde world shamed pubs still in existence in the City! Thanks for the fun and relaxed atmosphere!
Charming little pub , friendly staff , good food , not expensive, great AFL memorabilia all throughout , nice open fires , good cross section of clientele and most importantly the publican is Percy jones . Be back there real soon 🍺
Great pub, great service and the best Gluten Free Chicken Parma in Melbourne. The pub is warming, welcoming and owner Percy Jones is a great man. The pub has lots of Fitzroy Lions and Carlton Blues Memorabilia which is fantastic. Go down with your partners and friends and have a beer and a meal. I'm definitely going back in the next week or too with my mrs. :)
I live locally and visit this pub probably 3 times a week. The locals that also visit are great to chat to and welcome my five year old.
When the staff know you by name it’s a good thing.
Food is fantastic.
Overall it’s a 10/10 from me.
absolutely love it. great place to relax, have a meal, have drinks in a friendly atmosphere, with very welcoming staff.. i highly recommend it to anyone for a great night!!!
Great little pub, amazing food and open fire place...
Plus I live around the corner ..lol
Friendly staff and the food was lovely :-)..................
Love this place !! The home of the Roy boys , perfect for an afternoon Brew and some pub grub.
Great atmosphere real pub ... visited from wa and had to go here to meet percy ... great bloke great staff and meet some great locals
What a wonderful little pub. Unpretensious and friendly. Cosy atmosphere and great food.
Well oh my it's our go to for lazy Sunday's ., great meals an very hospitable staff enjoying the beers longer....
Great pub, awesome service.
You know, I’ve always liked this pub. For a long time I’ve wished it was my local. It just has a good feel. On a beautiful warm quiet Melbourne day it was near to nirvana. A lovely spot for a quiet wine. The odd patron happy. The staff in a good mood. This place has never had the best food, beer, wine or atmosphere but it’s just always worked. I think I’ll always come back here.
Such a warm welcoming old fashioned suburban pub. Great food for very reasonable prices. An interesting selection of wines and beers on tap. Some superb collection of Carlton and Fitzroy Football club historic photos. The 2 open fire places in the main bar are a must on a cold winters night.
A rare find, a pub without pretensions. The food was for the most part was old style standard pub fare, but excellent in its range and presentation. All meals @ the table of 4 were uniformly delicious and generous in their portions. Wood heaters kept the atmosphere warm on cosy on a cold Melbourne day. Highly recommended for a long afternoon on a dreary Melbourne day.
As my odometer clicked over to the big “33” last week, we decided to push our Thursday parma review to Friday, Affording us the ability to kick back and enjoy a few pints in celebration without having to worry about being seedy for work the next day. Our target location for this salubrious event? The much recommended North Fitzroy Arms.
Solid little performer! This place has come leaps and bounds recently. It's not a gastro pub, but a solid traditional pub, draped in history and charm. Given it's off the main street, it's a local haunt. Prices are reasonable, food is great and the service is friendly. Great courtyard for dogs too!
FABULOUS VEG AND GF OPTIONS. Very good menu choices with many GF and veg options we had the vegetable stack, fabulous!
82 year old meat eater has now converted to vegetarian as a result.
New chef, good prices, quality feed. Will return - cheers cobbas
Thoroughly enjoyed my meal, we had eye fillet steak with a side of vegetables and wedges (we were starving). Steak was cooked perfectly! The Olivia Shiraz went down really well and I bought a bottle to take away. Service was amazing. The staff couldn't have been any better. I'll definitely be returning.
Sometimes you want a quiet beer and a good old yarn. Sometimes you want to feel the quiet atmosphere of an authentic pub with down to earth servers and no prevention. The Arms offers easy, relaxed service and an atmosphere of what Aussie pubs used to be.
Why would you come into a hotel with meals under 15 bucks and expect to be waited on hand and foot, in this old easy you put your hand up and get a beer instead of expecting to be served. In the arms you make the time that you want. It's old school, it's a memorabilia adorned memorable atmosphere, but you have to be a measured attendant to make the most of it. Don't expect what you don't pay for. Make it to the Arms to make it your own.
Getting there, slowly.. I keep cutting these guys some slack. We're locals and used to eat there regularly when Volka owned it. It was warm, welcoming and the food was good without being spectacular. They really went downhill FAST when the new operators took over. But they seem to be trying and clawing a little territory back (no doubt helped by the medium density housing explosion happening at Nicholson/Rae). But it all comes unstuck in small things. One of the last pubs with two open fires in the bar and they are, on a cold night, extremely stingy with the wood. Guys, it's frigging wood, not gold. Put some decent logs on both fireplaces and get a name as a great warm, snug place to go in winter and you are made - even with average-ish food.
Tuesday taco night is fun and cheap!
Still an inner city fitzroy icon. There is a fine line between glamming up a venue and paying homage to it's roots and the role it has within it's locality.
There has been a slight glamming up but fortunately the Arms is still a great inner city pub with inner city bar/lounge and dining meals, chalk board specials and nice items off the menu in the dining room. (with table cloths).
Anyway, the beer garden and lounge and public bar anre fantastic complete with open fire place and great beer on tap and no drama ordering a melbourne bitter either. The service is the friendliest i have ever had the pleasure of at an inner city pub, and is consistently excellent. We enjoyed the steaks, cooked to perfection both in the public bar(cheaper smaller cut) and the lounge/dining room, for the 300 g plus p\house with generous sides. We have had the burgers and the fish n chips and again, perfect, bountiful crispy, light and fluffy.
Value is good, though i feel the prices have the potential to rise above that for which the premises is known for. Service is excellent, the best! the ladies are always so cheerful, and food comes out on time, no fuss, and tables cleared. We had a problem with a "stale glass of champagne" but when i returned it, we had no questions no dramas, just a new bottle opened and fresh glass poured, excellent! And for the solo diner, it can be hard but if you can snag a table in the public bar or near the beer garden you can keep to yourself, read the paper in the light provided and have a top time...bring on winter for this pub is cosey
Perfect pub. This is one of three great pubs in North Fitzroy, and we've visited maybe 50 times over the years. Bar is warm and friendly. Dining room enjoyable, with an open fire in winter. Never disappointed with our food choices (OK, maybe once, long ago) As an old Fitzroy FC supporter, I appreciate the memorabilia on display. One of those pubs you just keep coming back to.
Went today for lunch, normally in the dining room or outside. Today first time sat in the bar area to be near the open fire and it was lovely. Service was absolutely fine, they where there when we needed them and gave us our space when needed as well. And as for the food, thought the various menus (bar and restaurant were available to us) tried to cater to various budgets. We shared the pork belly and scallop entree - yum! Followed by rack of lamb with a pumpkin rosti which was tasty and cooked to perfection from the restaurant menu. My co-diners went with the pub menu and found their meals fine if not as good as the lamb. Overall a lovely way to spend a wintry afternoon.
Quiet night out. Went here last Thursday and enjoyed it so much we took our friends on Sunday. The food is delicious, the staff really friendly and the atmosphere relaxed-a real local feel about the place that reminded me of a country pub in the UK
The Haskins is well n truly a cut above your run of the mill Fitzroy Pub. In summary the service was as good as you'll find anywhere and the food was worthy of its 80+% approval rating. The standout dish of the night was the Chicken Ballontine which was nothing less than outstanding. The only minor glitch would be the bread, which could have been fresher, but overall a brilliant evening and very much looking forward to an encore in the foreseeable future
It's all about the Goulash!. Great local pub, with a great local feel. Make sure you get the restaurant's goulash, served in the baked break cob. Washed down with a pint of draught - of course. Delicious!
The Pubs Changed Owners. I have recently moved to the North Fitzroy area in the past 10 months and was told to try a few of the local pubs. Have been to a few however the North Fitzroy Arms stands out for me.
Must admit I went there a few times with friends and although pleasant with reasonable meals the place lacked atmosphere. I have been there a few times over recent months and believe there are some new owners running the pub now. Much younger than the previous owners and seem to have more get up and go. The past few times I have been in the pub seems to be much busier, good background music, the fire places running, even a little group placing music in the courtyard on a Sunday afternoon for a few hours.
Menu seems to have changed a little with some winter dishes, however some of the standard items still there. Can recommend the large serving of lamb shanks, the pork belly or the duck. The service seems to be better and more efficient also with some new wait staff who are very friendly.
Overall would reccomend the Fitzroy Arms as a good local pub. Nice to go somewhere that hasn't been modernised and feels like you are in a little country pub. Definatly worth a visit.
A pleasant Thursday lunch!!. Just returned home from lunch at the Fitzroy Arms Hotel. We enjoyed a great meal served in a lovely old dining room with plenty of charm. The service was excellent, very friendly and welcoming. The food was of great quality and the menu offered plenty of choices. We could have also sampled the bar food but will have to go back another time to do this. We look forward to returning!!!
Solid and reliable, the Arms cranks out an almost unbelievable range of good meals. Have only ever had one or two disappointments here in dozens of meals.
Went to a 90th birthday celebration with around 40 guests.
Lovely atmosphere with log fires and live music
Food was great with ample servings.
Would recommend
One of the best pubs in North Fitzroy. classic old school with FFC lions memorabilia, typical traditional pub counter meals big, tasty and healthy. Pizza, porterhouse steak, fish and chips, chicken Parma, chicken schnitzel, vegan options. Like a country pub in the city, in a lovely old corner building with classic pub furnishings, fireplace and vibe. Plenty of specials everyday and the midweek lunch is amazing value from $10 with a pot 👍. Family friendly and a great pool table and beer garden. all pints $9 Monday to Friday, and plenty of other beers, wine, cider and single malt scotch whiskey on the menu. The menu changes frequently with a creative chef banging out some delicious food specials.
This is the type of pub you hope never leaves. Lots of history which is easily researched. The weekday lunch prices are insanely well priced. A Parma and a pizza with a side of gravy was only $26 and comes with 2 drinks.
The Parma was a massive portion, served hot and fresh, chips well seasoned and crispy and great to see a good quality salad with nice fresh vegetables. This was $15 +$1 for the gravy which was a little under filled but delicious !
They have a $10 pizza lunch also which rotates each week. I had a pizza that had roast pork, ricotta, apple..?, rocket leaves and balsamic vinegar. Must say, way too much going on here. But I appreciate the that the chef is under pressure!, and for $10 was great. There were only two options available. Would be great if they could provide a simple Margherita option too. The dough was quite soggy, maybe not cooked in a high temperature pizza oven. But individual elements were nice and quality.
Service really nice and unpretentious. Served in good time and a nice dining room. I would highly recommend this spot !
We stopped at to his pub for a snack before a show next door. Really liked the pub and our snack worked for us..so if you go to a show at 75 Reid st..go to the pub next door for a drink it's very old word who ch suits us

Exceptional, whopping sized porterhouse grilled on point! Amazing Sunday afternoon band and the happiest chilled vibe.
Wow what a treat. Atmosphere was fantastic. A big group of seemingly football enthusiast's seemed to there to enjoy and honor their football legend hero . Percy G.meal was a real big country meal check out the pic of my meal. An iconic old Melbourne Pub. Visit well.recomended. check out the real log fires
Proper pub, great staff, broad menu to suit everyone. Wish it was our local and we're weren't just visiting from Geelong!
