Amazing place to relax and have a peaceful brunch. Usually crowded but they have got outdoor sitting provisions as well as a beautiful garden. Ambiance goes 10/10. Staff were super sweet and prompt with the order.
About the food:
Undoubtedly the best value for money, made with fresh ingredients especially the avocados and pomegranate on my Dukkah eggs. š
Would definitely recommend this place to someone who is looking for a peaceful evening spot with ideal Aussie cafe ambiance.
Loved it! ā¤ļø š“
Busy cafe. Fairly good food and coffee. The only thing is that you can feel rushed out, when they are a busy. I sort of get it....but also, when you've only been there a little over an hour with a bunch of other people, it can seem a bit pushy. Would return, but only on quieter days, wouldn't make it a catch up place with people on weekends.
I was after a coffee and in the area so I called in here.
The service was really friendly and welcoming. The strong almond latte was really tasty but expensive at $5.90 for a standard size coffee.
There were some yummy looking home made cakes, donuts and slices too.
Overall this place is still a good choice for a meal or a coffee as I've eaten here before, a couple of times, just not on this occasion.
Previous review- January 2016
Cool little place, been there twice now. They serve good wholesome food, reasonably priced. The cafe is in a reasonably quiet street, but the cafe is anything but. It always appears busy, and the staff are friendly. If you want some good food, without the traffic hassles of parking in high street Northcote, this is a good alternative.
We were shown to a nice seat in the courtyard near the heaters on a cold Melbourne morning. The wait staff were attentive and helpful while the food and coffee were amazing. Will definitely be making it back to try out some more dishes!
Pleasant surprise!
What a great little cafe tucked away in Northcote.
And it really does have a red door!
The cafe is filled with their own products to buy which I think is a great idea. Things like Jam, eggs and milk. Itās ace. Itās not a big cafe, very compact but the courtyard outside and front space adds two outside seating areas for extra space! I really like the atmosphere it was just cute.
I sat on a bench, to look out the front. I was given water and asked what drink I wanted straight away. Always big points for me there.
The staff were really friendly and polite, another thing I always look for when brunching.
I ordered the broccolini and sorghum salad. I have never had sorghum before but it was almost like a thicker quinoa. The portion size was fab! So many greens. It definitely wasnāt a poxy small salad. It was layered, well flavoured and tasty.
The only thing I felt missing was maybe some sort of a kick of chilli or even some garlic. I wasnāt a big fan of the herb oil and the mint which really came through on the sorghum. But thatās just my tastebuds. And me trying to find a little
Fault with such a tasty well presented dish!
BOTH EGGS PERFECTLY POACHED.
As I was paying I saw their wonderful baked goods cabinet. I got myself a salted caramel hazelnut cookie. Crunchy, chocolatey and oh so hazelnutty. Perfect.
I loved my brunch, tasty, relaxing and all good vibes.
9/10
Nice little store. Does get busy. Nice coffee and cosy local ljttle gem, have returned here a couple of times the staff is nice too Thankyou!
So this place used to be my favourite cafe in Melbourne but after a couple of just okay meals and menu changes it went down a little in my books. The staff however are brilliant and the food is still generally amazing although a little on the small side considering the price. I would definitely come back again and its still an awesome brunch spot in Northcote. There is limited seating though so expect a bit of a wait on the weekends.
Nice little convertered milk bar tucked away in the back streets of Northcote.
Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Lots of options including gluten free. Meals are rather small but tasty
Honest substantial all day breakfast options and hearty lunch offerings. Good selection of beverages. Friendly and accommodating service. Kid friendly and easy parking.
I realise I have been to Northcote several times in my ten years in Melbourne. Never do I feel unwelcome, but equally it feels outside of my comfort zone. That all ended at Red Door Corner Store.
Maybe it is the off-High Street aspect? More likely it is because there is nothing to be uncomfortable about in this area any longer. It has changed. No longer only for the hippest Melburnians, Northcote has slowly diversified, offering more, and suiting a wider range of tastes.
Back to Red Door Corner Store. Catherine found it through some research when we felt like something new to try in an area we hadnāt been to for a while. We encountered a nice, warm cafe, nestled in the suburb, with friendly staff, and happy customers.
It is a really nice corner cafe, plenty of room inside, they also have a garden and the front. The food was INCREDIBLE! They have things that are a bit of the ordinary but really good!
I would definitely go back again to try more things on the menu!
On a short stay in Melbourne from Canberra we came here for brunch on a Sunday. There was a 20 minute wait for a four person table but it was definitely worth the wait. The food was delicious, filling and reasonably priced for a Melbourne cafe. Would come back here in a heartbeat.
Great little place with decent food and drink options. Recommend trying the monk's chai.
Dog friendly, you'll see people out the front having a bite to eat, a coffee with their dog nearby.
Give the crumpets a go, the scrambled eggs and toast are good and the breakfast tart is tasty.
Inside it's a bit small with the tables and chairs, but if you can find a spot, worth a visit.
A very popular little gem hidden in a back street.
It might have been a wait for a table but it was worth it, and even though it was a public holiday and it was an even longer wait than normal for the food to arrive from the kitchen that to was worth it.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. Extremely accommodating with pets and menu variations.
What more could you ask for from a gem š like this. Especially when they are run of their feet.
You would think that the tension would be a little tight be not in the least. The just happily buzz along, seamlessly doing what they do best š
Totally awesome
Cozy neighbourhood cafe, away from the busyness of High street. Good coffee, tasty dishes and attentive staff. I like the layout and seating too with it's cozy corners and divided sections. Definitely one of my fav.
We arrived with a party of four and were promptly seated at a communal table. The staff were an absolute delight, they did not delay in taking our orders.
The chicken sandwich I ordered was thoroughly delicious. My wife enjoyed the sorghum and broccolini salad and apparently it made āher tummy singā, which can only be a good sign.
Thereās a great country cafe feel to Red Door - its founders have taken great care and poured a lot of love into it - this much is evident.
My only criticism, which turns to a matter of preference, is that the space is quite cramped, which may add to its appeal to some, however is a nuisance to those with access requirements.
My friend of 50+/- years L Fred and I have decided, after x years, that Red Door is our lunch joint of choice. It has quiet outside tables for discussing the events of the last three weeks. It has Covid-free eating, an interesting menu, extra-pleasant wait staff and great coffee.
L Fred has grilled salmon if itās not Friday, I have the brilliant shakshuka (but without chorizo because my Israeli-cook mate says chorizo is not authentic) or we both have corn fritters (served with a poached egg) just to break with tradition.
If itās quiet we might have the chance to explore the Masters thesis of the wait-person.
