Amazing place to relax and have a peaceful brunch. Usually crowded but they have got outdoor sitting provisions as well as a beautiful garden. Ambiance goes 10/10. Staff were super sweet and prompt with the order.
About the food:
Undoubtedly the best value for money, made with fresh ingredients especially the avocados and pomegranate on my Dukkah eggs. 😍
Would definitely recommend this place to someone who is looking for a peaceful evening spot with ideal Aussie cafe ambiance.
Loved it! ❤️ 🍴
Busy cafe. Fairly good food and coffee. The only thing is that you can feel rushed out, when they are a busy. I sort of get it....but also, when you've only been there a little over an hour with a bunch of other people, it can seem a bit pushy. Would return, but only on quieter days, wouldn't make it a catch up place with people on weekends.
I was after a coffee and in the area so I called in here.
The service was really friendly and welcoming. The strong almond latte was really tasty but expensive at $5.90 for a standard size coffee.
There were some yummy looking home made cakes, donuts and slices too.
Overall this place is still a good choice for a meal or a coffee as I've eaten here before, a couple of times, just not on this occasion.
Previous review- January 2016
Cool little place, been there twice now. They serve good wholesome food, reasonably priced. The cafe is in a reasonably quiet street, but the cafe is anything but. It always appears busy, and the staff are friendly. If you want some good food, without the traffic hassles of parking in high street Northcote, this is a good alternative.
We were shown to a nice seat in the courtyard near the heaters on a cold Melbourne morning. The wait staff were attentive and helpful while the food and coffee were amazing. Will definitely be making it back to try out some more dishes!
Pleasant surprise!
What a great little cafe tucked away in Northcote.
And it really does have a red door!
The cafe is filled with their own products to buy which I think is a great idea. Things like Jam, eggs and milk. It’s ace. It’s not a big cafe, very compact but the courtyard outside and front space adds two outside seating areas for extra space! I really like the atmosphere it was just cute.
I sat on a bench, to look out the front. I was given water and asked what drink I wanted straight away. Always big points for me there.
The staff were really friendly and polite, another thing I always look for when brunching.
I ordered the broccolini and sorghum salad. I have never had sorghum before but it was almost like a thicker quinoa. The portion size was fab! So many greens. It definitely wasn’t a poxy small salad. It was layered, well flavoured and tasty.
The only thing I felt missing was maybe some sort of a kick of chilli or even some garlic. I wasn’t a big fan of the herb oil and the mint which really came through on the sorghum. But that’s just my tastebuds. And me trying to find a little
Fault with such a tasty well presented dish!
BOTH EGGS PERFECTLY POACHED.
As I was paying I saw their wonderful baked goods cabinet. I got myself a salted caramel hazelnut cookie. Crunchy, chocolatey and oh so hazelnutty. Perfect.
I loved my brunch, tasty, relaxing and all good vibes.

Nice little store. Does get busy. Nice coffee and cosy local ljttle gem, have returned here a couple of times the staff is nice too Thankyou!
So this place used to be my favourite cafe in Melbourne but after a couple of just okay meals and menu changes it went down a little in my books. The staff however are brilliant and the food is still generally amazing although a little on the small side considering the price. I would definitely come back again and its still an awesome brunch spot in Northcote. There is limited seating though so expect a bit of a wait on the weekends.
Nice little convertered milk bar tucked away in the back streets of Northcote.
Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Lots of options including gluten free. Meals are rather small but tasty
Honest substantial all day breakfast options and hearty lunch offerings. Good selection of beverages. Friendly and accommodating service. Kid friendly and easy parking.
I realise I have been to Northcote several times in my ten years in Melbourne. Never do I feel unwelcome, but equally it feels outside of my comfort zone. That all ended at Red Door Corner Store.
Maybe it is the off-High Street aspect? More likely it is because there is nothing to be uncomfortable about in this area any longer. It has changed. No longer only for the hippest Melburnians, Northcote has slowly diversified, offering more, and suiting a wider range of tastes.
Back to Red Door Corner Store. Catherine found it through some research when we felt like something new to try in an area we hadn’t been to for a while. We encountered a nice, warm cafe, nestled in the suburb, with friendly staff, and happy customers.
great food, great service, a bit busy on weekends so might be a little wait. sometimes they have specials that serve unique food thats extra good
Always grab the semolina dish with a side of salmon and never fails to disappoint. Always bustling with customers and quick staff who remember you. Coffee is good, food is better!

Came here for brunch because we were on the way to Preston. There was quite a large crowd on a Saturday afternoon - clear indication that this is a preferred neighbourhood cafe! I ordered the shakshuka while the Husband had eggs ben. The shakshuka was a clear winner - yummy chorizo, good roti (wish it was warmer), balanced dish (not too salty) and generous amount of cheese sprinkled on it. I wasn’t so sure about the eggs ben - I found portions small, the pulled pork tasted average. Coffee was quite good here. Will return if I’m in the area!
Was excited to try this brunch place and I think it thoroughly deserves its high ratings. It's a great neighbourhood cafe, situated on the corner of a roundabout where I presume an old milk bar used to reside. The interior is cosy, not huge so I can understand the long queues at peak hour which we happily avoided. The soy chai latte comes with honey, which I think should be the gold standard at all cafes, and although the latte was a little mild, you can't go wrong when you add honey. We had the shakshuka which was an excellent dish. A little salty, but it's fine when combined with the baked egg, flatbread, tomato/eggplant/fetta and chorizo. Not sure the green chilli oil added too much, but a very satisfying dish overall. The eggs benedict was also nice, especially with the crumpet and pork crackling. Our side of bacon was initially forgotten, but this was quickly remedied. We finished with a portuguese tart which was also very good. Recommend.
Solid breakfast. Porridge was delicious even if a little too sweet. Poached eggs were cooked well and on quality bread (Cobb lane). Coffee was nice too. Will be back to try the house made crumpets. Added bonus is that you are able to reserve a table!
This place does one of the best brunches in Northcote!!! The mushrooms and polenta (maybe not on the menu anymore) is heaven.
The crumpets are amazing!!
Red Door is hands down the best place for brunch in Melbourne! Forget every other hipster cafe- there was no sight of chilli scrambled eggs or ricotta hot cake (a welcome relief after what feels like every where in Melbourne has the same menu)- this place is fantastic. The Shakshuka is phenomenal and truly the best breakfast dish around, followed closely by the corn fritters, also the homemade Portuguese tarts that sit on the counter are to die for! I can never fault my experience with these guys. The most delicious food and great service. Worth the wait every time, a cute little cafe in a residential area of Northcote is definitely a hidden gem.
Pros: the portuguese tart is a must! It was a delight, if only we had it fresh would have been amazing but still so good! Shakshuka baked eggs especially with the pesto oil on the side were top notch also. Patty of the beef burger was perfect and the spicy sauce given on the side with the chips were something else..unique and it gave that extra delicious kick to the chips! Ambience was cozy and service was very well.
Cons: the burger buns were a bit dry. Berry milkshake may have needed a bit more sweetness. Bread would have been more preferred with the baked eggs than the tortilla pieces (but that's just preference).

Amazing food and great customer service. I was there for a long lunch with friends and we felt welcomed and not at all rushed. Generous serving sizes all round, including breakfast sides. Coffee was delicious. Will definitely be back.
Lovely cafe tucked away in suburban Northcote. It’s a nice cosy cafe inside with an outdoor area out the back.
☕️ Coffee is tasty.
🍔 Food is tasty. Ordered the burger and zatar wrap. The burger was finger licking good. Also got the zatar wrap with was yummy too.
Such a lovely brunch spot! Friendly service and excellent coffee. They are using Dukes coffee bean. We tried cappuccino, magic, long black and filter coffee. All of them were great.
I found that the Wide-Caught Rockling was surprising me as the hazelnuts and rosemary matches perfectly. I finished this plate with satisfactory. My husband had the baked egg which was not bad. But I think mine was better ;)
Enjoyed the atmosphere too. Will come back and visit again! (They are kids-friendly as well)
Came here with Vinh on a Saturday around 12 and the place was packed so we had to sit outside which was cold but okay! We both ordered the shakshuka. The serving was generous and it was very flavoursome however a little bit too sweet for my liking! The dish is also served with four small pieces of flat bread which really isn’t enough but still tastes nice!
Super busy- recommend booking, but totally worth it! Best shashuka in Melbourne. Coffee was spot on and the cakes, doughnuts and pastries in the window looked amazing. Will be back!
Lovely neighborhood cafe. We had the baked eggs (shakshuka) and the Dukkah Eggs. Both were tasty. They even make their own donuts. Definitely worth a visit.
Best brunch place in Melbourne I have been to so far. Surprised to be seated straight away on a Saturday. Ordered two dishes from the specials - shakshuka and a chicken pie. Both exceeded expectations. The shakshuka was flavored and portioned perfectly.
Cute little joint tucked away on a corner. The interior of the place was very nice and quite hip. I had the barramundi with the lentils and it was yummm! Bf had the burger and he devoured it which is always a good sign. Also got some crumpets and loved the jar of jam that came with it
Love this hidden gem 💚 yummy food, vintage interior design and a little outdoor area making Red Door a perfect place for brunch or my lunch break since I work in Northcote. The Dukkah Eggs were lovely, served with grilled peach 🍑 Persian feta and salad, beautiful combination of fresh flavours. Coffee is always good but was a little on the cold side today.
Came here a couple of weeks ago, I ordered the burger whilst my husband ordered the quinoa and millet salad. The burger was delicious, juicy and full of flavour, my husband enjoyed his salad also. Highly recommend and will return next time we’re in the area.
Everything about our visit was the best here. The service was SO friendly & accommodating, in tending to our seating requests & even going to the effort to capture looming wasps. The food - barrumundi with ply lentils, as well as the semolina veggie dish were both awesome. Unique menu items for a cafe with complex & intricate flavours. Market Lane coffee also a win. I just wished this cafe was my local!! Gorgeous courtyard & interior.
We love the food & the ambience of the place. We choose to sit in the garden when the weather is really nice on easter break. The person who serve us is very kind and friendly. and the food was taste amazing too! We ordered espresso, chai latte, french toast and waffle for our brunch food (its a must recommended menu to try from us!). We’ll come back for sure. #BHAsFoodDiary
Another classic case of a milk bar from the 80s turning into a hot spot cafe in Northcote!
Thankfully we booked here on a Saturday for lunch as it was chock a block full of patrons. We ordered a mix of dishes, I ordered the Hommus Wrap a perfect dish for those vegans.
My other half ordered the Free range chicken sandwich, this had the perfect combination of house made pesto, rocket, mayonnaise and tomato.
Our friends ordered the pasture fed Angus brisket beef burger with the side of fries. The verdict? Delicious!
The only thing I found was overpriced were the side order of fries based on the quantity given. Nevertheless they were damn good fries! The Staff were amazing, they all seemed to enjoy what they did and gave a fantastic friendly vibe. Red Door Cafe in my opinion should be bigger though as it seemed to feel a little claustrophobic. Otherwise a great lunch had by all and smooth coffees. I will definitely come again!
Always super busy in this place and for good reason. Coffee is amazing, food is great. The Benedict is always a winner. Only issue is that the staff seem to always be in a huff or act like they cbf’d being there which has put a lot of friends I’ve gone there with off the place.
The waitress was super friendly, coffee and hot chocolate.were very tasty, so did the food. The decorations were nature and elegance. Food's presentation was also good for me.
This is a local for our our family and we eat here all the time. It's a great cafe! My most recent delicious meal was the cured ocean trout on potato waffle, but I often order the dukkah eggs, as they're so tasty. My only, minor issue is that the stools outside (at the front) are simply the wrong height for the tables. I find I'm always too high and have to hunch over to eat. Inside and out the back are more comfortable spots.

Food was on point. Service was great and extremely friendly. Definitely a family friendly cafe with slot of kids. So if looking for a quiet coffee not the spot. But that didn't worry us to overall, very good!
We paid this beautiful cafe a visit today , very popular in the area . Coffee was awesome , I had a tea plus a chai latte . Highly recommend the chili scrambled egg , it's delicious ! The house made crumpet was brilliant too .
Spanner crab omelette was nicely done and topped with a garnish of chili, spring onion and shallots. So simple yet perfectly matched the omelette and took it to the next level. Companion had the Barramundi and she said it was perfectly cooked. Coffee was good and well made.
Beautiful local gem. Menu changes on the regular basis so you will never get bored. Tentative services and great coffee to start the day. Best of all, you can book this place on the weekend!
Lovely neighbourhood cafe with really good food and coffee. Ordered the mushroom semolina, and it tastes yum! Definitely will come back and try different things
We decided on having brunch at the ‘Red Door‘ today, as it is one of our favourite cafés in the Northcote area. Formerly a milkbar, it’s located on an average suburban street, making it an easily accessible place for the locals. For two filling breakfast dishes and one coffee, we paid $40.
This is an adorable little cafe - always pumping and a local favourite! Went here a few weeks ago and I had the scrambled eggs with avo and mushrooms - was delicious however the scrambled eggs were quite runny and I tend to like them cooked a little more. My partner got the acai bowl and it was really nice but could have used a little more granola and fruit. Coffee was lovely! Will continue to go back 😊
One of my favourite brunch places in Melbourne. Food, drinks and service never fail to impress. I love that you can book a table here too instead of having to navigate ridiculous wait times!
Not usually in Northcote, but the reviews for this cafe looked great so me and my friend tried it out! I got the grilled semolina which was nice but the goat’s curd was really overpowering the dish. The chicken pastry tart was really good and the coffee was lovely.
Check out the yummy pics!
Red door has become a regular for breakfast. Often busy but staff try to accommodate. Cute out back seating if you can get it. Food is interesting and has some twists to the menu not found elsewhere. Tasty and flavoursome - Dukkah eggs are a must! Coffee is good, but wouldn’t be their strongest sell.
Creative, delicious food, good coffee and a wonderful selection of jams and pastries which you can purchase and take home. 8 years on, still our fave brunch spot
A very quaint and pretty cafe in Northcote. I know this place gets very busy so I booked for lunch and I'm glad I did. Lovely staff friendly and attentive. Had their ocean trout bagel and it was one of the best bagels I've ever had it was delicious and the ingredients was so fresh. Also was enjoying their freshly squeezed juices, so fresh and delicious . They have a large selection of coffees and teas. Reasonably priced beautiful place to have breakfast and lunch. There is a outside area as well. Absolutely recommend.
Hadn't been here for a while .....why????? .... what were we thinking?????
Both dishes 10/10 and the coffee was so good, I ordered two.
It won't be long before we are back.
It's only 7 mins walk from northcote library or all nations park. The first time been there I ordered salmon waffle 👍👍👍👍👍. Second time I try baked egg with lamb mince n banana smoothie. It's a bit salty for me n smoothie just not too bad. But the staffs are very nice.
Fresh tasty food options and cute venue. Coffee is ok but food is great, especially the dukkah eggs. Nice to have a local with delicious healthy options
We had a great breakfast at this cafe. The popular choice seems to be the corn, zucchini and quinoa fritters, served with avocado, refried Ayocote beans, charred corn, tomato &
jalapeño salad, housemade salsa roja and a poached egg. Almost all the table had someone eating it. I ordered the same and thought it was great. I also had an iced coffee and thought the ice cream was really nice. Nice cafe, good coffee, will be back again sometime.
One Sunday a month I join a group for brunch and as organiser this time, chose this well situated, busy neighbourhood cafe in Northcote. Luckily Melbourne's weather was having a good day as we were seated outdoors in the south facing garden, which I imagine to be an outdoor refuge in summer as it had no sun at all. Never mind. Coffee (and a turmeric latte) orders were taken and we prepared to order mains.
The coffee was okay, lacked a little robustness, but fine. I ordered the corn, zucchini and quinoa fritters, served with avocado, refried Ayocote beans, charred corn, tomato &
jalapeño salad, housemade salsa roja and a poached egg.
Despite being colourful and well presented I was underwhelmed by my brunch. The fritters had an odd flavour, perhaps it was the salsa, perhaps the cottonseed oil they were deep fried in (I asked what oil they used - and I've never had a deep fried corn fritter either). The avocado lacked any seasoning at all, the corn and salad was flavourless and the beans were just black beans - nothing special.
There were mixed reactions to the food around the table as well. A woman across the table had the Dukkah Eggs and she said the flavours didn't go together well. The turmeric lattes were oily. Not sure I'll rush to return to this cafe, but it was good to try and nice to know it can be booked for groups.
Very nice and friendly cafe with lovely out door seating area. We had a super tasty quiche, salad and latte. Will definitely return with friends.
Consistently great coffee, amazing mushroom and polenta dish but maybe my favourite thing to get here is the chicken pesto sandwich- sounds a bit 90's, I know but omg it's bloody delectable 💕
Oh yes, it is indeed a cafe post! But take note readers, this is no ordinary cafe. This ladies and gents, is a stalwart of sorts. A heavy hitter in the cafe scene based purely on how solid the food fare is. It is of course, the Red Door Corner Store. Situated within the intimate nooks of backstreet Northcote, this is the antithesis of a cool neighborhood cafe. Friendly service, good coffee, but oh the food! With Holly in tow, it was time to go go go!!
Went here with a few friends just before we left for the snow. It was a nice cosy atmosphere and the staff was nice too. I ordered a fish dish, which looked and tasted amazing :) all my other friends enjoyed their dishes too :)
Enjoyed a really lovely breakfast here this morning. The menu has a lot to offer and combines home style cooking with trendy cafe food.
The porridge with poached fruit and crumble was perfect for a cold morning. Despite the fact I had low level cravings for porridge this morning the choice was still difficult with the menu featuring lots of dishes that sounded very appealing.
I did opt for the coconut yogurt on the side but they were perfectly happy to accommodate and in fact most of their dishes can be altered to cater for dietary requirements.
The drinks menu was just as tantalising as the food menu. Despite being a regular coffee drinker I couldn't go past the turmeric latte and it did not disappoint. One of the best ones I've had.
I also really love the vibe if this cafe, it's super cozy and super homely. It's almost hard to believe you're eating at a cafe in an inner north suburb.
The service was also reasonable and the staff friendly.
I would definitely recommend trying out Red Door if you haven't and will definitely be returning. They do get busy as the cafe space is fairly small so plan when you're going to arrive and perhaps even expect a wait but it's certainly worth it.
The dukkah eggs are one of the most delectably attractive dishes to be found north side. Such a delicious and exotic take on the ever popular smashed avo and feta combo on bread. They are almost surpassed by the divine French toast with champagne poached strawberries and orange blossom custard. Such a fruity delight! My friend and I greedily shared this as a breakfast dessert after we both consumed a dukkah eggs. I love that they are committed to local and sustainable products (#northcote) and it's pleasing to see a proclamation of wanting to accomodate dietary requirements where possible, rather than the old 'sorry no changes to menu'. They proudly publish where they source their produce too which is refreshing. Situated on a residential street it has a real warm and homely atmosphere and the staff are absolutely lovely. The rest of the menu sounds amazing too
Delicious food!! The wagyu beef burger is probably one of the best burgers I've had. Good service! Easy to park around the area too. Keep up the good work.
With my friend having recently moved to Thornbury and raving about how he's taken family and friends here, I decided it was time I paid him a visit and had brunch there myself.
Located in a suburban street, it is easy to find parking. I drove past it twice thinking it was a milk bar and then it struck me - red door corner store aka milk bar facade - duh! I got there around 11.45am on a Sunday late morning and was told there was a 15 minutes wait. The lovely waitress came up to me just before 12pm and took me to a table of four. When I entered, I noticed tables were scarce and despite more room in the back, I didn't realise that the cafe actually has a beautiful heated covered courtyard. What a gorgeous way to spend a slightly sunny Melbourne July arvo.
We were promptly seated and handed menus with so so many options. I had been eyeing the corn zucchini quinoa fritters covered in salsa placed atop a bed of black beans, onions, tomatoes and topped with avocado and a delicious poached egg. So, I got this dish. My brunch companions got the day's special - chilli trout scrambled eggs, the dukkah eggs on toast and the acai bowl.
Each dish was substantial and priced around 16-18 dollars - so very reasonable. The coffees arrived quickly. Mine was quite milky but at least it was extra hot. Not strong or robust bodied but good for a Sunday afternoon. My quinoa corn zucchini fritters were quite filling and I only had half of the dish. I didn't taste much sweetness of the corn and thought they were quite bland despite the topping. The black beans seemed out of place but yet were satisfying.
The dukkah eggs just tasted quite strange. Dukkah coated eggs was new and I just didn't identify the flavour preferring panko fried eggs. My brunch companion however said that they tasted great with the poached bear and gf bread. So, perhaps the dish only tastes great if you eat it with everything served rather than on its own. Hmm..
My friend devoured his trout chilli scrambled eggs saying that he liked the flavours of the trout though it was not visible but wished it had more chilli in it.
The other friend enjoyed her acai bowl which had substantial pieces of fruits and other natural goodness.
Service was very quick. Staff attentive and lovely.
Split billing available.
Definitely keen to go and try more.
p.s. The waitress now remembers my friend's coffee order which is very nice.
Nice place. We went on a day where they had some large tables of people, so unfortunately had to sit in the garden area at the back. It's absolutely freezing there in winter and the staff forgot to move us inside when a table became available. It was fine though, she was as friendly and attentive most of the time and it was an oversight.
That aside, the coffee here is amazing. The food is also good, but there is a lot of use of fruit in everything and I'm not a huge fan of fruit in all my meals. I ordered a pulled pork roll, but they had run out (it was 1:30pm and it must be good!) and so I ordered a brisket bagel. It was toasted and quite tasty. I enjoyed the huge pickle that came with it!
Overall, a nice place to eat but maybe not outside in winter. Definitely worth the wait for a coffee.
Unassuming venue but always has high quality food that tastes delicious and looks amazing. Coffee is some of the best I have had in Melbourne and most definitely one of the best in Northcote. It can get very busy but service is very good, highly recommend if you're in the area.
I absolutely love this place. The ambience is great and service is warm and friendly. The mocha was strong, though the chocolate flavour was subtle. The cured ocean trout with waffle and egg was amazing, although a tad saltier than I would have preferred.
What a hidden surprise! Tucked away in the quiet streets of Northcote. The cafe was very crowded so luckily we made a booking. I have found a place that I can now visit every week. Tried the house cured smoked trout with potato waffle and it was sublime! The waffle was so good! The juices they had were also very fresh and refreshing. The only issue I had was that I could not eat more of the menu cause I was too full! I honestly can't fault this place and wish that I had found it earlier! Staff were very friendly and food was delicious. Lovely local crowd also. Will return again this week. Keep up the good work Red Door Corner Store!
Really cute and bustling cafe in a residential street in northcote. Great menu and a wonderful selection of sweets for all those sweet tooths out there. Given it was freezing this morning I had the winter warmer porridge, with apple and pear, coconut and granola. My friend had the breakfast roll with egg, bacon, avocado and rocket. Delicious! The service was great too! And outdoor seating available for your pooches. 👍🏻
5 star, this food was some of the best cafe food I've had. Actually, it may even take the top.
Innovative, well cooked, well portioned and the cutest out door area. Coffee was smooth (no sugar required!) and the staff were the perfect blend of attentive yet not pushy..considering the line up I was expecting to be pushed through quite quickly but I wasn't the case. If you come across a queue, put your name down and take a stroll around the gorgeous block as this place is a rarity and well worth the wait for what may be one of the most interesting cafe brunch menus in Melbourne.
P.S - those special blood sausage eggs need to be on the menu! Phenomenal!
Love this place ! So welcoming and super cute ! The food was excellent i had the semolina and wild mushrooms and it was awesome !! The juice of the day was perfect as well to start my day ! Staff was super nice and friendly
The best dining environment you will find in the neighbourhood, even in a cold day. Enjoy your food and turmeric drink with all the fallen leaves to warm up your day and your heart!!! The best thing is that they source their ingredients from local farmers, a big thumb up from a farmers' market fan!! Especially after being a public health promotion dietitian with a local council and local farmers!
We had a very satisfying brunch there. Food was good and the price was very reasonable compared to the portion of dish. Wagyu beef burger comes with chips, which was very crunchy and tasty. Chai latte was ok, but not one of the best one in town.
We will be back for sure.
It's always delicious here! Perfect sweet treats - making it very difficult to make a decision!!! Love the selection in cabinet and on menu topped with great service and very cool atmosphere:)
I recommend going there for morning or afternoon tea as it has great cakes and drinks. For lunch they could do with a few more options but it is decent. Although it can get very busy and take a while to
come. Staff are friendly and the cafe itself is really cute. It is also quite cheap and overall I had quite a good experience.
Tucked away from the main street in Northcote you'll find this lovely cafe with a red door.
Great coffee and great food.
Great selection of classic and inspired breakfast items are offered as well as a small interesting lunch menu.
We had the wagyu beer burger and barramundi. Both were delicious, with the only down side being the potato chips were a bit soggy.
Seatings available out the front, inside and in the courtyard. Friendly service.
We only waited about 20 minutes and the wait is certainly worth it. We were seated near the exit to the rear which wasn't ideal but the food made up for the slight door chill. I ordered the Wagyu burger (Bunless) now following a keto way of eating and they were more than accommodating. The highlight of my dish was the Vegemite mayo, to die for! Will be going back. Loved it
Awesome cafe. We travel to come here. The food is yummy and innovative, and the coffee is fantastic. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. I usually get the Benedict, which has a nice spin on it coming with cider-braised pulled pork, beautiful hollandaise, and on a homemade crumpet. Today I wanted something different and went for the Barramundi in chickpea puree with lentils. I also shared some chips with my wife. My only criticism is that today the chips were a little blonde/under but still ok.
Overall, this is one of Melbourne's finest cafe's
Really impressive food. A twist on some great ideas - the flavour combinations work really well. Loved the coffee.
The dukkah eggs and fritters were scrumptious.
Service was A+. The atmosphere inside is really welcoming and warm.
In an area flooded with cafes, this one really stands above the rest.
Super satisfying brunch I had the other day. Grilled Semolina: sautéed wild mushrooms, shaved asparagus & leek, brown butter, Goat’s curd, truffle oil, toasted pine nuts, poached duck egg + prosciutto enough said. Their dirty chai was very well made also.
I'm looking forward to going back to try their other dishes!
Cute place tucked away in residential area. Food was great and smoothie was amazing but couldn't say the same about some of the staff. Love to see more smiles on their faces. Initially when we didn't know what was happening after we were seated. Should we call out for menus and water? After a good 5-7min someone came. Other than that, the place is great, cool little things decorate the place, food was enough and well priced.
Red Door Corner Store is one of the best Milk Bar you will ever come across 😄😄😄
We came here on a busy Sunday noon for our usual brunch fix, luckily we had a booking considering how busy they were 😥😥😥
We ordered our drinks first, Cold Pressed OJ, Lattes and an Espresso. Just before ordering or food: Gin & Citrus House-cured Ocean Trout, Corn Zucchini Quinoa Fritters and their Wagyu Beef Burger 🍔🌽
The food arrived at the table and our jaws dropped 😲😲😲 In fact it looked fabulous 😍😍😍
The Trout was fresh, delicate but the flavours trapped in it were an explosion of pure deliciousness. The burger was juicy and had prime produce that made it top notch. The fritters...oh the best I have ever eaten, incredibly light considering how tasty they were 😄😄😄
If you are in Northcote come here. Period 😅😅😅
Thank you for having us 🙏
I love this local cafe, great food and friendly service on a quiet residential street. My favourite dish is the zucchini fritters they are sooo good! Decent serving size.. Add a side of bacon or ask for a piece of toast to come with it you're overly hungry. Coffee is good too as well as the homemade sweets have a look up at the counter.
It's quite busy which can mean a wait on weekends, but it's worth it (get there early if you can)..
note -it can be crowded so if you like distance from your fellow diners it may not be suitable for you. Or head for the courtyard!
Lovely neighborhood cafe in Northcote serving great food and coffee with warm hospitality. My baked semolina with mushrooms was superb. My friends loved their bircher and crab omelette. Our beautiful weekend started from this cafe.
Good food and good service. There is a good selection of food to choose from and the waitress was so upbeat. The place is quite a distance to walk from the tram stop on a hot day, but definitely worth it!
This place is a little gem inside the streets of Northcote. My brother and I went today even though it was bucketing with rain. Even in this dreadful weather this place is peaking with a 20 mins wait. We ordered the barramundi and crab omelette and they were both delightful to eat. The Mork hot chocolate that I ordered was just ok. Nothing extravagant, but my brother said his mocha was great. The chips we ordered with the aioli sauce was good I suppose, need a little more sauce with the amount of chips. All in all I would recommend! 😋
Start going somewhere else if you don't like waiting for a table. The food is decent so is the coffee. Service is pretty fast once you're seated. If you're a mum like me and ask for a little milk watch out for $2 additional charge on your bill. I thought that was poor given we've spent $130 on brunch and coffees.
Great place. Real local favourite. We find ourselves here every Sunday morning and it is consistently outstanding. Easily top 3 coffee joints in the Northcote / Thornbury area. We drink St David's Dairy milk and Red Door always have it in stock.
Love this cafe. Staff here are super friendly and very accommodating!! I made last min booking on Australia Day and was able to secure a table 1 hour before I showed up. The fact they take bookings is super convenient.
We did brunch here so their breakfast menu is filled with choices and amazing flavours.
The overall vibe and atmosphere is very warm and they also have outdoor seatings which is pet friendly.
I would also recommend trying out their chai latte!! Probably one of the best I have had.
A unique, groovy, hidden Northcote gem! We've wanted to come here for a while and finally got here on a Saturday afternoon! What a find 😍
Buttermilk Crispy Chicken Waffles (off the specials menu) was sensational. Jalapeño paste/hot sauce was a superb little kick, beetroot pickled egg was delicious, and strawberries added something different again. What a tasty dish!!! Nom nom!
Brioche French toast with rhubarb & custard filling: the filling in the french toast.. omg what a combination! It added sweetness & made the dish very dessert like. If you have a sweet tooth like me - you will love!
It is a really nice corner cafe, plenty of room inside, they also have a garden and the front. The food was INCREDIBLE! They have things that are a bit of the ordinary but really good!
I would definitely go back again to try more things on the menu!
On a short stay in Melbourne from Canberra we came here for brunch on a Sunday. There was a 20 minute wait for a four person table but it was definitely worth the wait. The food was delicious, filling and reasonably priced for a Melbourne cafe. Would come back here in a heartbeat.
Great little place with decent food and drink options. Recommend trying the monk's chai.
Dog friendly, you'll see people out the front having a bite to eat, a coffee with their dog nearby.
Give the crumpets a go, the scrambled eggs and toast are good and the breakfast tart is tasty.
Inside it's a bit small with the tables and chairs, but if you can find a spot, worth a visit.
A very popular little gem hidden in a back street.
It might have been a wait for a table but it was worth it, and even though it was a public holiday and it was an even longer wait than normal for the food to arrive from the kitchen that to was worth it.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. Extremely accommodating with pets and menu variations.
What more could you ask for from a gem 💎 like this. Especially when they are run of their feet.
You would think that the tension would be a little tight be not in the least. The just happily buzz along, seamlessly doing what they do best 👌
Totally awesome
Cozy neighbourhood cafe, away from the busyness of High street. Good coffee, tasty dishes and attentive staff. I like the layout and seating too with it's cozy corners and divided sections. Definitely one of my fav.
We arrived with a party of four and were promptly seated at a communal table. The staff were an absolute delight, they did not delay in taking our orders.
The chicken sandwich I ordered was thoroughly delicious. My wife enjoyed the sorghum and broccolini salad and apparently it made “her tummy sing”, which can only be a good sign.
There’s a great country cafe feel to Red Door - its founders have taken great care and poured a lot of love into it - this much is evident.
My only criticism, which turns to a matter of preference, is that the space is quite cramped, which may add to its appeal to some, however is a nuisance to those with access requirements.
My friend of 50+/- years L Fred and I have decided, after x years, that Red Door is our lunch joint of choice. It has quiet outside tables for discussing the events of the last three weeks. It has Covid-free eating, an interesting menu, extra-pleasant wait staff and great coffee.
L Fred has grilled salmon if it’s not Friday, I have the brilliant shakshuka (but without chorizo because my Israeli-cook mate says chorizo is not authentic) or we both have corn fritters (served with a poached egg) just to break with tradition.
If it’s quiet we might have the chance to explore the Masters thesis of the wait-person.
First class!
