With sheer luck on my side, I managed to stumble across this 'new to the area' restaurant and I am so glad I ventured a little further than my usual 'something on the way home from uni' dinner. The "Rice Paper Roll" and "Vegetarian Spring Roll" for entree were nothing short of AMAZING and the "Sweet and Sour Haw Sauce Chicken" with the "Special Fried Rice" (which didn't skimp on the prawns) was flavorsome and had my taste buds wanting more. If you live in the vicinity (or don't mind a little travel for good, well priced food) I can Highly recommend going to "The Flavours of Mekong".

Heard a lot about this place, so driving past one night just before closing thought I'd pop in.

Far from being putout by this late visitor I was made to feel welcome. Any restaurant that offers Bun Bo Hue and Bun Reiu impresses me already. Being a restaurant owner and Chef I was keen to eat something we didn't cook so I went for a Curry Laksa and a Vietnamese Coffee. I was seriously impressed.Had a chat with Francis and found him to be a friendly and informative host.

All in all I am very keen to grab the Wife and some friends one day and try out some of the more "fine dinning" menu items

Great Malaysian and Thai food and host owner Francis will sure to take care of you. One of best curry laksa in Melbourne. The Ox tail soup is fantastic and flavorsome and tender. The rendang is also tops with generous portions and tender meat. The that mango prawn salad is also great with healthy greens and juicy prawns. Highly recommend these dishes and pricing is great too. Great food and service from owner Francis and his team. The hog pork trotters was great and very tasty, the prawns was delicious and great size whole the chicken ribs in tamarind sauce was delightful and full of flavour too.The mochi dessert is to die for and a definite must try. Definitely a go to restaurant for reasonably priced Malaysian asian home-cooked food. Assam Barramundi is great dish, you will not be disappointed. So is it chicken ribs in Tamarind sauce.

If you are looking for a flavor filled authentic Vietnamese and southern Asian cuisine this is the place to be!
Every dish of their Chinese New Year banquets was packed full of flavor and spice. The meal started with a prosperity salad that we all tossed together as a group and was a delicious way to start our banquet. The seafood laksa was a crowd favorite with all the flavors you would expect and a nice amount of spice. The meals kept on coming with butter prawns, vegetarian rolls, poached chicken and barramundi fish which were all so falvoursome! Francis was very welcoming and passionate about his cuisine and heritage. The only downside would be the decor could use an update. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a casual quick meal that’s full of flavor. Thank you so much for the invite.

Flavour flavour flavour! Who ever had Malaysian food knows the flavour explosions you can expect of every dish. Stemming from the wide range of influences from Cantonese over traditional Malay and Indian cuisines, the Malaysian kitchen is one of the most exciting to come across.

For the launch of their new Chinese New Year Banquet menu we had the honour to sample a variety of dishes and man was the journey worth it!

Favourites: butter prawns, whole barramundi and the seafood laksa. The butter prawns were the most unexpected but also most exciting dish of the day with crispy Chinese broccoli and tangy butter crisps and soo juicy. Just thinking of it makes me salivate. The barramundi was super flaky, basically falling apart and bang-full of flavour. And the star: the laksa! Man that broth - with laksa you can go super wrong and get very oily overly spicy soup based but not with this one. A very rich but well balanced soup with the best fish cake I ever had and tasty seafood - not too much ingredients but just the right amount to be very satisfied.

Who knows my reviews knows that I’m not giving 5s and the only mini mini reason why this is not a 4.5 would be the vegetarian rolls which to me were slightly too sweet but that’s just my opinion from someone who is a very savoury person.

All together a very positive experience due to the friendly hospitality of Francis and his team!

Good bye Happy Cook and welcome the Flavours of Mekong.

A few flavours to try here as Mekong area/river does cover a few countries in the Indochina region and I think that's what this establishment is trying to showcase.

Seems like an experience operator with previous Thai establishment in the City that we get to know quite well, Sawasdee in Chinatown.

My Vietnamese Pho rare beef & brisket is above average, broth is on the sweet side, tasty but made me thirsty.

We'll come back for their Thai dishes, as that's what the Malaysian background proprietor said as his best cuisine.

Perhaps it's cause my food experiences of late have been mediocre at best that makes me overly eager but the curry Laksa I had here for lunch was amazing. Spicy, creamy and bang full of flavour. A shame it didn't have eggplant but they did include fresh prawns (which unfortunately I don't really care for). Being rather empty for a week day lunch, the owner came over for a chat and he was seemed very friendly and nice. Will definitely come back to try all the other dishes on their menu

Food here was nice, taste is aimed more to your westerners palette. Very simple and flavours wasn't like your typical Vietnamese/ Chinese restaurant. Even the 3 colours drink had grass jelly in it (not supposed to) but maybe it's their version of it. Dessert coconut pancake was yummy!

Nice little place for a quick meal. We stumbled across this local gem while shopping near by. Ordered the laksa and the soup noodles with crab paste and Viet meat rolls, both were delicious! The service was fast and friendly. Our lunch came to just under $20, what a bargain! Will come back again :)

Sometimes your little local is underappreciated.  It can sit there looking like just another shopfront, you can imagine it's a regular, average Asian restaurant.  Sometimes you'd be wrong though.  Replacing the well-loved 'Happy Cook' might have been a challenge for some, but Flavours of Mekong was up the the challenge.  There are plenty of regulars already, and Francis knows them all, probably also knows what their favourites are too.  If I tried to list our favourites, it'd take all day, narrowing it down, ummmm; Go for the Curry Laksa, Pho (any of them), the scallops with the whole chillies (no idea what it's called), Garlic Pepper Scotch Fillet, Beef Rendang or just ask Francis what's good, you'll not be disappointed.   The little dumplings are bursting with prawns, the broths are fragrant and deeply flavoured and the service is friendly, so welcoming and inviting.  Crunching into the Mekong Chilli Prawns is such a pleasure, and save some room for the Coconut Pancakes (tinted and scented by pandan).  Wash it all down with some oolong or jasmine tea, or maybe Francis's Virgin Mary.  If you're a local, you'll be a regular in no time.  Yeah, we love it here.
EDIT:  Try the Sticky Date Pudding, Creme Caramel (not eggy, gorgeous, smooth and silky) or the Sago - these are top desserts at bottom prices!

EDIT:  We enjoyed the Goat Hot Pot tonight.  A delightfully rich goat broth with lots of other little treasures such as little dates and water chestnuts swimming about.  We had a plate of vegetables and noodles to dunk in and fish out, which we enjoyed with a unique sauce (with or without fresh chilli).  If you need a reason to go out on a cold Melbourne weeknight, the Goat Hot Pot is excuse enough!

Recommended by a friend to try the signature Mekong prawns. OMG! It tastes soooo good!!!! I have never tasted anything that good for a long time. For entrees we tried the chicken in pandan leave, softshell crab (very yummy), sugarcane prawns and yum sum grob everything was so nice. For mains we also had assam curry with whole barramundi and the basil moonshell clams. Service was excellent with host Francis experience at front of house, dont think you can pick a fault to start with. With ambience that blends with their jazzy background music makes the so very cosy and relax when dining. Anyone coming, I m going back again next week.

Had a night out with a few of my mates. I suggested a new restaurant in the neighbourhood, 'Flavours Of Mekong'. I used to go to 'Happy Cook' for the Peking Duck and I think Mekong is a restaurant well deserved to replaced it. Had the Mekong Prawns as it's one of their signature dish and it's well above what we expected. Sensational is the only word. We ordered others dishes and I can only say, the menu at Mekong is totally different from any other restaurant around. I would highly recommend anyone to give it a try. The host is a exceptionally friendly and helpful.

Great atmosphere, nice decorations, good service, very friendly owner.. lovely foods.. I love the prawn dish and clams.. (must try) but, the roti was too dry and hard.. I prefer a bit more juicy.. and  the pigeon was a bit burn and dry.. It was a great experience.. Surely will come back and try other dishes.. ^_^'

Both me and my friend had a wonderful dining experience here one night about a month or so ago. I enjoyed talking with the owner, Mr Francis Lim about the food and his business background. The food was delicious and reasonably priced with friendly staff. We did get a cold breeze on us on and off throughout the evening because the door wouldn't shut properly. I'd be happy to dine there again but would sit further away from the front door if it's still in the same condition.

We had been searching for a Southeast Asian restaurant in Melbourne for some time that served food with genuine spice (when requested). Went to Flavours of Mekong on the recommendation of a friend. Venue is pleasant, features nice decor with a very welcoming host, Francis.

Menu was quite varied with dishes from many Southeast Asian countries. We chose the Phat Kee Mao and the Chilli Prawns, a signature dish, requesting extra spice. Both were served promptly and presented well. The Phat Kee Mao was a little on the small side, but the flavours were genuine, spicy and just what we were after!

Very satisfying experience overall and next time we are in the area we will be sure to drop in again.

Had lunch ordered the soft shell crab and pho. The best soft shell crab in Melbourne. It taste like the soft shell crab I had in the famous town Tambun Malaysia

I have tried many in Australia and this is the best. The pho is as good as the best from Richmond.

The service is also very friendly.

Extensive menu with many good quality dishes...Ox Tail for example is well worth trying as is the quail as an entree or the sugar cane prawns...However, we have tried many varieties with great satisfaction.... Very congenial host and pleasant staff... The Restaurant speaks for its self as we have noticed many repeat customers...... Good location close to the Nunawading rail and Bus stops... Ample parking out the back.

We were very sad to see the Happy Cook close at this location
but recently decided to check out its successor as it was himself's birthday
and father's day.  On a quiet wintery Sunday
night we received prompt and very friendly attention from Francis and his
staff.  With his help we chose a number
of dishes to share with our friends & bratpack, all of which arrived
promptly but well spaced apart.  We had for
entrees the main course chef's special calamari, both flavours of rice paper
rolls, the soft shell crab and the Thai fish cakes.  Loved the calamari which had a good kick but
wasn't so hot that the slightly wussy son couldn't eat it.  For mains we chose chicken and lemongrass,
massaman curry, oxtail stew, prawns with curry leaf and pepper beef with
steamed rice and roti as sides.  All delicious
but for me the massaman curry was a standout, for some of the others it was the
oxtail stew that they loved.  The prawns
were generously sized and beautifully cooked.
At just over $200.00 for six hungry adults we felt we had received very
good value for our money.  Will
definitely be back Francis!

This place has unique selection of favourites and restaurant signature dishes from the many countries that sit along the Mekong River and delta. Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, and even Malaysia (who cares about geography) This means that there will be something here for everyone.

The owner, Francis, originally from Malaysia, is a very engaging and welcoming host, with 35 years of restaurant experience in Australia and it shows.

Our food was exceptionally good. The Chilli Prawns, Tamarind Chicken, Gang Keow Wan and Green Papaya Salad were standouts.

As Arnie would say "I'll be back"

I have been coming to this place for lunch take-out. I tried different Malaysian foods and was happy with the taste. Curry was quite thick for me to enjoy it and it wasn't that salty which was great. Basil in the fried rice needs some work to make it tastier. Overall it was such a good experience for me. The price is also competitive compared to other Malaysian restaurants. I would definitely come back again for other meals. The owner and staff are also friendly. The good thing is that we are able to customize to suit our taste 🙂. Requested chilli cut as well without any issues.

We had the best Vietnamese in a while here today. Spring rolls were cooked just right, and the Bun had the freshest pork (also perfectly cooked) I've tasted in ages in this frequent go-to dish. Fast friendly service and my LDC loved her seafood curry lahksa. We'll surely be back.
