Review Richmond Oysters Oakleigh - Oakleigh

Frank S
First time here, special dinner for a birthday. On a Thursday night they were quite busy but we had reserved a table and were seated immediately by a friendly smiling waiter. The menu wasn't tremendously large but had enough for all of us to choose something easily. A Seafood platter for 2 for my 2 companions and a Rib Eye for me. Service was always just there without being intrusive or overbearing and all the staff we spoke to were very familiar with all the menu offerings. A good range of wines by the bottle and enough by the glass to choose from. The venue is not particularly elegant, fairly plain and Spartan, no tablecloths. Prices are on the high side and I would expect a bit more extravagance with the décor. The quality of the food though is superb and makes up for the lack of occasion in the venues presentation. Everything was of the highest quality, superbly prepared and very tasty. Definetly competition for the Lobster Cave!! The food here is better, although the atmosphere is not as "special".

When my friends told me that we were going to this restaurant, I'll admit that I was apprehensive. I've never been a seafood fan, but this has turned me in the right direction. I decided to take the plunge (pun not intended) and try something new, and I am so glad that I did. Their food was absolutely delicious, their service and staff amazing. And even though there was a family with small children, it still maintained a intimate, cosy vibe. Thanks for a fantastic experience guys, can't wait to come back.

This restaurant is so pretty inside. The food was just exquisite. It's a bit more costly so something we do for special occasions. The appetizers are all delicious and the selection of mains we tried were awesome: risotto, garlic prawns, tiger prawns with chili and the swordfish. Such well-sized, cosy and hearty meals. Service was lovely too.

Extremely good staff, very attentive. We were there on a Saturday morning and it wasn't too busy. The deluxe platter was a crowd pleaser. We ordered a few extra oysters and the chowder and it was more than enough. Recommended!

The food was great and staff are friendly and willing to provide detail on the menu. Oysters Kilpatrick are worth a try :) we also had the Saganaki, the Crab and Scallops. Will defiantly come back.

We ordered the seafood platter, everything came out fairly quickly and everything in the platter was delicious. Our favourite was the oysters, really fresh, and my husband who doesn’t like oysters I think is now converted! I think it was a great price for the decent size serving and quality of food. We also ordered some Bloody Mary and Japanese oyster shots, loved the Bloody Mary ones, but we thought the Japanese ones a bit sweet to our taste.

Lovely atmosphere and a great range of food. Unfortunately our food took a while to come out but the staff were very accommodating and made the wait more comfortable by offering complimentary drinks. The garlic bread was delicious! Fish and chips were also delightful. I will return!

Went here with work people for lunch. The place is modern and beautifully decorated. We had oysters to start which was fresh. Then we shared a few other entrees: saganaki and octopus. All were delicious. We all ordered the $15 lunch special which is reasonably priced. And the portion was quite generous. I had the seafood linguini with chilli & garlic sauce. The linguini was cooked perfectly. There was not enough chilli and the prawns were slightly overcooked but this didn't stopped me demolished my plate. The staffs were friendly and attentive. Top service. Really glad we went here for lunch. The rest of my work mates enjoyed their experience too. Definitely would recommend if you're in the area.

We visited Richmond Oysters in Oakleigh today for their Wednesday – Friday $15 lunch special. They offer a choice of six items on the menu which are tasty and great value. I couldn’t resist and ordered additional Pacific oysters mornay which were, as always, mouthwateringly delicious!

A real standout restaurant in the area for being slightly more up-market and it's a seafood-lovers dream. The menu selection is fantastic, everything from different fish to bugs, mussels and a few meat options, which was good to see.

My husband is a real oyster lover and had nothing but excellent things to say about these oysters. Simply fresh, they're hard to beat and good value.

We shared the platter and found everything was cooked well. The chefs were very accommodating with my husband's garlic allergy so our platter was a little different to the menu. But everything was great, especially the mussels and the scallops.

Would highly recommend if you're looking for a fancier night out but it's definitely not the cheapest meal you can find in the area.

😱Lizzie’s first impression: don’t be fooled by the name - this place is the second restaurant from the original Richmond oysters in Richmond.

🍩Lizzie enjoyed: I had the seafood platter and it had everything I ever wanted. Think Morton bay bugs, muscles with garlic and tomato sauce, calamari and oysters. It was delicious!!

🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: it is a little out of the way but if you’re in the area - by all means check this place out!

🥇Lizzie rates overall: I loved the food and think it was pretty reasonably priced for seafood. Cooked well and plenty of seating area.

Love the food, love the service! The freshness of the seafood, the special sauces, all made us very happy. The chef’s special tuna tartare was packed with Asian flavour, really yum

Been to tge richmond on before, to be frank this one is no where near as good as the richmond one, dont know what it is but the vibe is very different.

Periodically with friends went here. Now the kitchen has changed a lot, the portions are almost two times less steel, they throw greens and a few pieces are scattered on the greens very limitedly ... they increase the volume with greens, but in fact there is very little product ... It's a pity but we won't go over 100 $ per person you can have a better kitchen.

First time going to Richmond oysters. Was looking for a good spot to get a seafood platter and this was fabulous! It had a good mix of cold and hot and everything was really fresh, well seasoned and delicious! My favourites were the Moreton Bay bug, soft shell crab and the prawns. We would definitely go back.
Will
Fresh seafood and good service, much like its big sister in Richmond. Oysters are exceptional, would highly recommend for any seafood lover.

Had dinner here. Shared entree included soft shell crab, calamari, octopus & saganaki with figs. Very tasty and this came with salad. Mains included wild king prawns with fennel, grilled flat head tails, barramundi filet which came with salad and chips. I had garlic prawns with coconut rice and an Asian style salad, the garlic sauce was subtle and creamy. Very fresh and delicious food with quick service. The only complaint was the mojito contained too much ice and quite tasteless. However it was about $256 for 4 people which was quite good value overall.
JB
Have you ever had really good Paella? It’s a orgiastic feast for the senses... Friendly staff and proactive to boot. The seafood was fresh and tasty. Huge serves and not just the usual padding of chips and rice!
Viviana

Always wanted to try this place. Decided to go to this one as it’s close to home. Came here for the first time on a Saturday night.
Ambience : 4/5. Great location with ample parking space surrounding the area. The restaurant is spacious with cosy lit dining area.
Food : 4/5. Delicious and palatable. My favorites would be the grilled salmon, calamari, oysters, prawns and scallop. The cold dishes were fresh and pleasant. Mussels were average although the gravy was enjoyable.
Service : 4.5/5. We had a booking for 6.30pm. Called to let them know that we’re running late. They were kind enough to hold our table for 30 minutes. The waiter and the waitress who attended to us were very attentive. Every single details from the refilling up our water to getting us the bill.
Will definitely comeback for the fresh oysters and prawns.
Hello. Imnikki
Booked a table for 4 on a Saturday night but there were still a few empty tables throughout the night. Much less busy than the original Richmond Oysters in Richmond, and also somewhat lagging behind the original in quality and freshness of the seafood.

We ordered the Platinum Platter for 4 and I can safely say that our eyes were bigger than our tummies. It was a hit and miss with the platter.

The hits were the oysters, lobster (natural and Mornay), grilled fish fillets, grilled scallops, grilled prawns and Moreton Bay Bugs. Fresh, simple and good quality seafood. Surprisingly we enjoyed the fried fish wantons too - deep fried to a lovely crisped with delicious fillings.

Unfortunately the mussels tasted off. The staffs were apologetic when we made it known to them, and offered a replacement dish, which we declined as we wouldn't have been able to finish it! The soft shell crab and calamari were rather average in taste and texture, and the sashimi was sliced rather too thickly.

The service was in general courteous, but there was one waitress that stood out for her friendliness and down-to-earth nature. An overall pleasant meal that left us feeling very very full.

First time here. Great atmosphere.
Booked but quiet for a Friday night as plenty of empty seats available.
* Grilled octopus - had anticipated whole octopus (was so excited for grilled baby octopus) however it was actually just grilled tentacles. Super soft and tender but a bit oily
* Platinum Platter for 2 - HEAPS of food!!! Nothing really stood out. A bit disappointed with the mussel pot as it was a bit too salty. Everything else was ok but nothing stood out.
A definite must-go to try but probably will not come back heard. Have heard that the one in Richmond is better so that will be next destination.

This place is phenomenal! The food was absolutely delicious, props to the head chef. We've been to the one in Richmond but this is far superior. The seafood is so fresh and cooked to perfection. Amazing! Would recommend to everyone!

Nice Food! Good service! Had a platinum platter w extra half dozen oysters. The oysters were really fresh and it had a clear taste to the buds. The sauces gave the oysters extra tastes

I have finally tried out Richmond Oysters at Oakleigh, I had always wanted to try out the place everytime I am in Oakleigh.
Now that I finally did, I am giving Richmond Oysters 5 stars to the restaurant.
The restaurant has such appealing interior, so modern and the table seatings are spacious. They even have seafood tanks of live fish etc. So you know the seafood is fresh.
The service was impeccable, prompt and the waiter was kind.
We finally received our food, such a huge seafood platter and it was amazing. I wish I had more oysters, it tasted so good, so fresh and to combine with red vinegar, the flavour was on point.
I also enjoyed the mussels, it was one of my highlights of the meal. It had a lot of flavour and a great decent portion we had received. I enjoyed the red sauce, it went well with the mussels. The flavour was just amazing.
The fried calamari was however standard, you can never go wrong with fried calamari but if it had a nice seasoning, it would be perfect.
The octupus was great! It wasn’t chewy or hard, it had great flavour and I enjoyed it with a squeeze of lemon! It was some great octupus I had in a while!
I will be back again!

Disappointing!

Two stars instead of one star because we had courteous service from our waiter.

We visited the restaurant on a Thursday night, having heard great things about the Richmond Oysters at Richmond, but were very disappointed at the quality of the food at the Oakleigh restaurant.

The Paella was mushy and tasted like it was heated up in the microwave. The mussels in the paella were bitter and there was 1 prawn in the dish. Shocking quality.

The poor quality also went for the entrees. We ordered Scallops, Tempura Softshell Crab and Octopus. Scallops were overcooked and served on some wilted rocket. The Tempura Softshell Crab did not have Tempura batter, it was flavourless and oily.

We expected a lot better quality food for $180! Don't waste your money on this place!

We popped in here for some fish and chips and enjoyed a lovely bowl of salad to go with it. The staff were all super attentive and really strived to ensure every customer in the restaurant had an enjoyable experience. The fish was well cooked and also tasted very fresh. The interior of the Oakleigh Richmond Oysters is very new and classy. Upon leaving, we purchased a selection of fresh seafood to enjoy at home throughout the week.

We dined here last Saturday night, had an early booking of 6.15pm luckily as the place was nearly full already. Prompt efficient service by the waitstaff, regularly replacing the water jug on the table. Throughly enjoyed a seafood platter consisting of marinated octopus ( very tender ) scallops served in the shell with garlic butter ( mmmmm ) charcoal crumbed king prawns ( wish I had 10 more ) smoked salmon on mini blini’s and saganaki. Couldn’t fault anything. For main we shared a whole lobster mornay served with rosemary buttery roast potato’s and a Greek salad. The lobster meat just peeled away from the shell, absolutely delicious. Dessert was a shared board of a golden gaytime inspired mini round ice cream cake, and a chocolate brownie cake. Next time we’ll try the oysters and calamari as diners on other tables were raving about the taste and quality. Highly recommend.

Caught it on a bad night
Carole and I visited recently and were disappointed after having read the very encouraging reviews on several review sites.
We believe it is a lot better then the standard and quality displayed during our meal.
The service was prompt and efficient, the decor was bright with cheerful open space - you are not "shoehorned" in by any means.
The kitchen staff simply let the rest of the team down.
Prices reasonable, and wine list was reasonable.

Buying trays of oysters from the Richmond store was a long time tradition. Loved it. Sadly our visit to the Oakleigh restaurant was not a great experience. No Sydney rock oysters so settled for Pacific oysters which were sensational eaten natural (which means just with lemon juice squeezed in and not any of the dressings). Three requests and one tray of oysters later came our drinks ( an uncomplicated beer and a glass of wine). Therefore needed another tray of the fab Pacific O's ! Dinner was simple - the chowder and Risotto Marinara. Both disappointed big time. Yes, did ask for the white wine and chilli risotto but didn't expect a watery risotto ! The arborio ( not sure if it was) seemed clearly precooked and frayed unlike the perfect plump oblong shape of arborio. Fortunately I have an ability not to waste food.

Coming to the chowder - plenty of fish but again thin as and boy was it salty ! Room for improvement again ! Looking around, the best looking plates seemed to be the battered and deep fried seafood. No surprise there as the process is hard to get wrong. Richmond Oysters have the pedigree and reputation for their fresh seafood. So what goes wrong with translating it into a good restaurant with well cooked fresh seafood is something I will ponder.
The service - the lady was nice but a bit inattentive and out f sync. The young guy in jeans (could've been the manager !) needs to get back to hospitality school for a crash course in his trade !! And soon !
This review may not impress many but somebody needs to tell the story honestly for RO to take their brand further and excel in the kitchen. It's not rocket science.

Great food and fantastic service! Definitely be back. Food was all delicious and well presented. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Great place for couples and groups
Mummy+Me Eats
A whole mixed bag of service which was the ultimate let down. Overall many other options nearby that will want our regular business. The oysters lived up to expectation but not enough for me to want to return.

SERVICE: 2.5/5
I was surprised how lacking the service was. We had a table for 10 of us for an early dinner so the restaurant was near empty upon arrival. As the night went on and more diners arrived, the service staff just seemed more and more underwhelming. It's annoying when you have to flag them down for attention and ask 2-3 times before you get anything.

FOOD: 2.5/5
The photos look much better than what it was. Many of the entree and platter items where only JUST warm when they came out. Flavour was also lacking with the exception of the oysters, scallops and the atlantic salmon. Their mash potatoes was faultless...so buttery, so creamy, I could eat the whole bowl! The serving sizes were generous however, our table left a lot behind as the meals weren't as enjoyable as they could've been.

Maybe just the regular mains would be better if I ever found myself back here.

DECOR & AMBIENCE: 3/5
It is a bright and open space with a great oyster bar upon entry. It would be a comfortable and suitable setting for a date night, dinner with friends or large groups. It can get a bit noisy when it's busy so take your romantic date elsewhere.

KID FRIENDLY: Not quite. Colouring paper and pens available but they're not too warm to children. They actually seemed annoyed that there were kids around

Ordered the signature seafood platter. The seafood was terrible. The fish and lobster taste like dead for long time. I had the same dish in Richmond outlet before and that was way better. Definitely Never come to this outlet again.

Pleasant interior, and good selection of fresh seafood, although don't be too surprised if they run out of certain seafood - on the night we were there, they ran out of all the fish for a sashimi entre, the soft shell crab, as well as fresh snapper, and we managed to get the "last" salmon fillet. Somewhat surprising seeing how when we arrived the restaurant wasn't even half full, but then again maybe they had a busy lunch crowd. We had prawns for entre which were ok. I tried the grilled tuna steak which was fine, but to be honest had no wow factor. It was nice only because it tasted fresh, but completely lacked in any other flavour or seasoning - same goes for the chips. I've had much better grilled tuna before and I was hoping this place would deliver the same way, but it didn't. Presentation of main meals was pretty plain, something the could work on improving. Staff are friendly and helpful, however the service is somewhat slow, you really have to try and get the staff attention instead of them approaching you and checking if you're ready to order or whether you require drinks etc. I would still go back just to try the shared seafood platters, I saw a few other tables ordering those and they did look impressive.

Thank you we had a great experience. The seafood platter was fantastic especially the muscles and the crayfish mornay, Our waiter was very attentive and thank you for the complimentary glass of sparkling for our 20th wedding anniversary. Highly recommended We'll be back.
Willtravelforfood17
Ordered the fresh oysters there. Much to our surprise there were worms crawling on the shells. We told the waiter there were worms and he said that’s how fresh the oysters are and that they were harmless. They may be harmless but they made our food totally unappetising. Food took a really long time to be served. Fish and chips and seafood plate were average given the price they charge. The service was also way too slow. I will not come back.
Annmarie
The food was good, seafood platter was ok. The service was poor. For a Sunday night was disappointed especially since it wasn't busy and it took someone 20 minutes from when we arrived to come & take our drink order. Then once we received our food we didn't see another waiter, couldn't even get anyone's attention to order more drinks.
Bugalugs
Didn't enjoy being told there is an option to provide a tip by the French sounding waiter. I wish he'd told me as soon as I walked in so I could walk straight back out.

We wanted to try a new local, Richmond Oysters opened not long ago in Oakleigh. We went here on one occasion for vino with some appetizers; we ordered: saganaki, tempura soft shell crab and sashimi. LOVED the saganaki and fresh sashimi - the tempura soft shell crab had a bit too much batter. We went back on another occasion with a scoopon voucher and I probably wouldn't recommend this as much, the seafood platter was underwhelming

Came with a group of 6 for dinner . We used to be a big fan of Richmond Oysters in Richmond , our favorite was the seafood chowder & seafood platter. Today we meet our relatives in Oakleigh so we booked a table here .The chowder definitely tasted very different than what we remember before, we prefer the old recipe though , and the serving time between the dishes is way too long . The seafood platter and the Rib eye we ordered is nice though .

I have to say that the oyster is fantastic but the service from the manager was terrible and make me to think maybe he does want customer to come in at all. Providing me the food without saying a single word. The seafood risotto was served without a spoon and the manager walked straight away. When I told the manager that the risotto rice is not creamy at all and no feel of al dente, he asked me if I wanna try anything else, I said then I would like to change to linguine instead. The next second I heard the manager was talking about my feedback and laughed with the chefs in the kitchen which made me feel terrible. Anyway the linguine was offered again with low quality. The flavor is fair but the ingredients tastes not good. In the future, I would avoid Oakleigh one but rather go to Glen Waverley Restuarant for better service and maybe better quality.

Has this place changed owners? We haven't been in a while but usually come a few times a year to dine here.

The food seems to be very average these days. Packet cheese in a salad and poor presentation all round. Such a shame.
Ozegg
The best restaurant in Oakleigh. Great seafood, the fish is always fresh and delicious, the mussels with tomato are amazing and the fresh oysters and scallops are the best. If you get a chance have a port Phillip Bay scallop raw, so good.
Clancy Phillips
Been there 3 times now, my food has always been okay but all three times my mum has gotten food poisoning from here we thought it was unlucky the first time and maybe she just got a bad muscle and then she got it again the second time and we thought it was the calamari as she had at that stage eaten that both times but she did not eat that the third time we went and still got food poisoning. I have also had a drink spilt over me here. My experiences have not been the best.
Pink.rhapsody
Risotto was crunchy and bland with not enough seafood. Steak was chewy. They ran out of most of the seafood. The only good thing about this place was the salted caramel sweet at the end.
Monkey
One of those places that you go for special occasions. Not cheap and a bit expensive but you're paying for premium seafood. The lobster was very big and very enjoyable.

The service is great, BUT, the food is NOT FRESH!! The little fish tastes like they have been dead for a very long time...Not worth such high price!! Definitely not come back again......

This might be one of the only genuine reviews for Richmond Oysters. Note any patterns in the reviews below? This place is hopeless - We walked out, but not before they'd served us two glasses of wine (one deeply yellow and obviously oxidised and the other not what we ordered) and 12 oysters (5 of which were inedible (in an oyster bar???). Not surprising that There weren't many people there. Shame I forgot to get a photo of the chewed and rejected oysters. I'd rather have periwinkles on Elwood beach.

We are HUGE oyster fans and had a birthday lunch for my mother in law at Richmond Oysters in Oakleigh and we were all blown away by the wonderful quality and selection of the oysters, the fish and the wide selection of top quality beverages. It is such a joy to be able to try quality oysters from all over Australia on the one plate, especially those from Pambula Lake, NSW. The service provided by Alex was exceptional, his knowledge of the food and beverages was a credit to the restaurant. He was fun, witty, charming and made sure we all had a great time. We are big fans of the variety of oysters shots here, we especially enjoyed Alex's customised Japanese oyster shots.

We had such a great time my wife and I returned for our wedding anniversary. Once again we tried dozens of quality fresh oysters from all over Australia. We normally have them natural, however on Alex's recommendation we tried some cooked Japanese style oysters with Japanese panko, wasabi and soy which were fanatic.

Ryan the Bar Manager was also a real joy to deal with and he has invented a "Black Squid Ink" cocktail that was sublime and is only available at this restaurant. It's a wonderful cocktail that perfectly balances sweet, sour and salty flavours and one of the amazing features is that it has a fermented foam on top that is delectable.
The closest drink we could compare this cocktail to is a pisco sour, but Ryan's Black Squid Ink cocktail is totally unique and provides a wonderful drawcard for the diners at Richmond Oysters (Oakleigh). If you enjoy your cocktails and are willing to try something new, it is worth going just to try this drink. He allowed us to taste some black squid ink (a rare treat) and he was very generous in his explanation of how this wonderful cocktail was conceived and made. His service, knowledge of both oysters and beverages - and recommendations were exceptional.

We were so impressed with the Black Squid Ink cocktail, the food, the selection of quality wines and the service provided by both Alex and Ryan, we have been raving to all of our friends and can't wait to return to Richmond Oysters (Oakleigh). Thank you for such a memorable and wonderful dining experience, we highly recommend it.

Followed my seafood cravings to Richmond Seafood in Oakleigh. Brilliant service helped us choose the surf and turf option for 2. Loved everything on the huge platter.. especially the grilled prawns and tender rib eye! The dessert was equally as amazing. I might come back again just for dessert!! Thanks for a wonderful experience!!

Great staff, excellent service and quality decent sized portion seafood! Have been here a few times already and it's even better if you get it on a Cudo deal!! We had the 3 course lunch with a drink. Had one of the pino gris forgot the name. The sakanaki and olives n dip to start. As main we had the seafood paella and desert was this unbelievably yummy floss honey comb ice cream chocolate thing!! The paella was really good! Seafood fresh and if only we had more room in our stomachs to finish it. oh the sakanaki ... normally am not a fan as it's quite salty in most places. The ones from Richmond oysters had the right balance of saltiness and richness.

Popped in for dinner. The staff are friendly and those of you who enjoy seafood are on for a treat. The seafood platter is superb offering a wealth of tasty dishes to share.

Oops. I accidentally wrote a review for a cafe for Richmond Oysters before! Silly me. Anyway, I had the fish+chips+tap beer lunch special for $25 here which was exquisite. The waiter was prompt, friendly and informative, which are great qualities to have. The fish was so fresh it was almost leaping off the plate! The chips were very nice and crisp. And the beer was nice. Good kick to it. All in all this is definitely a good place to check out if you're in the area.

Friendly and helpful staff. Ordered seafood risotto takeaway and it was delicious, though a bit oily. Probably could get better takeaway containers though as it leaked.
Great food! Great people although service was lacking on a Saturday night. I counted three wait staff on the floor and severely understaffed. In saying that everyone at our table was happy, the mussels were the best although we wish we had more bread for the sauce. We asked for extra bread twice and were given a slice of bread each. Would have prefered for the bread basket to be refilled without having to ask as our bill was well over $500. The oysters were great and the snapper cooked to perfection! The bug was small but expected for the price , not a big fan of the sauce it came with. Batter on the fish and chips looked great (I didn't have it).

Another great place. Great food and great wines by the glass which were not too expensive. Wait staff extremely knowledgeable and not pushy. I originally thought the prices were expensive until I saw the serves. Fish and chips with gummy $49. BUT this could have easily fed 3 adults. Beautiful salad as well!! Highly recommend plus you can buy fresh fish to take away.

Went today to celebrate my partners birthday and had 3 courses, forgot to post a picture of the entree. Fantastic as usual. Actually used a voucher from Cudo and normally I am suspicious that if you use a voucher the quality and portions are not the same but I can tell you it was just the same if not better than our previous visit. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE FOR FRESHNESS, GREAT STAFF AND SERVICE!!!!!

Food was delicious but the staff are so amazingly friendly, especially two that we met last Sunday! Shout it to Jessica and Ryan ❤️️ they were so amazing to my 17 month old he was so happy and entertained! Jessica went above and beyond, my little one was so entranced by her ☺️ we will definitely be back x

Absolutely delighted with the fresh produce, the food presentation is great, fresh and tasty, staff are very attentive with smiles and enthusiasm

We stopped in for after dinner drinks (read: oyster shooters), and had a great experience. My personal favourite as the Bloody Mary oyster shooter. Japanese oyster shooter was good too of course!
Will be back to try some food sometime I'm sure...

Had a booking for this restaurant at Friday. Reached there about 6:30, the place still fairly quiet but it picked up fairly quickly. We had a seafood platter as well as a garden salad. The food was good quality; the oyster were pacific, so it has a slime taste to it. Though they do offer the oysters to be served in several manner which is good. The platter was a mixture of cold and hot, comprised of moreton bay bugs, oysters, 3 type of fish fillets, mussels in tomato & white wine, calamari, scallops. There was enough for 2 people with the right of servings. Dessert was also order - deconstructed Gaytime ice-cream and Creme Brulee. The Gaytime was good, though it lack something of a crunch so it felt like you are eating creamy ice cream. The honeycomb was a large piece which difficult to breakdown to add that crunchiness to the gaytime. The brulee was not too bad as well. Again, it just didn't live up to the price tag. The sugar was thin, so it lacked something to dessert. Still it was a pretty good night out and worth it to the something special night.

Locals to the area we are glad that there is now such a great seafood restaurant so close to home.
Service was great, food was delish and very well priced for what you get.

Had the Platinum Seafood platter for 2 with my wife to celebrate my birthday. Everything was so fresh and cooked to perfection and delicious. Service was great and friendly. Could not fault it. Will be going back again in one week to celebrate our anniversary 👍👍👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Richmond oysters provides a great atmosphere during the week or on the weekend. Oakleigh is famous for Its meat chains but not anymore now that richmonds oysters is here, the seafood here is Delicious & extremely fresh! Service was high quality especially if Alex serves you!
The virbrant atmosphere added to the experience. Thanks again for exciting our tastebuds with your delicious fresh seafood & scrumptious desserts. We will definitely come back again.

Just had dinner with family, we reached about 5.30 and the restaurant was still empty, our seafood platter came out not long after, overall was good, oysters was fresh, moreton bug was a bit soft but edible, mussel & scallop was good, fish was dry tho, salmon rilletes on baguette was so-so. Linguini was good but a bit too salty & the garden salad was a bit too overpowering as they used balsamic rather than normal italian dressing. Golden gaytime was good but the cream brulee was failed, it was not solid enough & maybe when they burn the sugar, it liquified it even more. Our server, Rosa was fast, friendly and very accomodating :)

Visited Richmond Oysters in Oakleigh for lunch on a $99 voucher and let me tell you, it does not dissapoint! The location is easy to find, the interior fitting is modern and spacious and the service was spot on. We had the cold+hot platter, a side salad, bottle of wine and two desserts. The seafood was fresh and amazing, there really is nothing to fault - we wanted more! and to top it off the golden gaytime dessert was a winner! Definitely coming back for more.

Came with two seafood platter vouchers with 2 friends. Heaps of food, the seafood was fresh and beautifully cooked. One platter was served before the other, the manager was sorry about that they were not served on the same time, so he gave us a bowl of chips after the first platter was served to apologize. Service was attentive, the bottle of white wine came with the voucher was nice too. Unlike a lot of the places, if alcohol comes for free, they tend to be not nice. We waited a tad too long for our paella, but overall was a pleasant dinning experience for a Saturday lunch.

I have always known Richmond Oysters as a fish shop with a small shopfront along Church St Richmond. A few months back I was blown away by a swish looking restaurant with the same name in it's place. (Not sure how long the restaurant has been open as I don't go past often) We were very impressed with the overall food, wine and service at the original Richmond location. When I saw that there was a new branch in Oakleigh I was quite excited to try it as it is closer to home for us.

The fitout of this branch is very nice too. Modern and spacious with a massive oyster tank greeting each patron at the front door. The friendly guy working behind the oyster bar was very keen to show us how fresh the scallops where by proceeding to drizzle vinaigrette on the scallop causing it to twitch. The kids loved the pre-dinner show, but I think some folks would freak out at this, but it was a good marketing as we had scallops on our mind even before we sat down.

Our party of 6 shared a mixed platter, an additional order of freshly shucked oysters from the tank (the pre-shucked ones in the cabinet are cheaper), a marinara pasta and of course some fresh scallops. Overall the food was decent and as expected the oysters were nice and fresh with a good combination of condiments on offer. However there could have been improvements in the following areas

- The Rockefeller style cooked oysters was a let down. The crumbs on top were tasteless and it was like eating sawdust.

- The dressing and condiments that went with the scallop cerviche was too overpowering in both taste and texture for the scallop.

Finally for a restaurant that wasn't at capacity a 1hr wait for 6 freshly shucked oysters was way too long. To their credit, we received some complimentary oysters to compensate for the wait. A very nice and delicious gesture indeed!
The Oakleigh location might have been a surprise, but the biggest shock was when Zest 89 closed on Kingsway Glen Waverley and Richmond Oysters put up their signage. Wow! Bold move! Can't wait to try their Glen Waverley, Kingsway branch when it opens and report back.
DAMMIT JANET I LOVE FOOD
I was truly impressed with the newest branch of Richmond Oysters (which is unexpectedly located in Oakleigh). Spacious and modern, this place emanated a sophisticated yet comfortable feel, and I loved all the live seafood that was on display. Service was excellent (friendly and attentive), and the food was fresh and tasty. We came here with a $99 Cudo voucher which made this meal a bargain (a bottle of wine was also included!), and we left feeling extremely full and content.

Tried out the Oakleigh restaurant on an Ouffer tonight, and was extremely impressed! We've been to the Richmond one and enjoyed it, but have to say the Oakleigh one is getting EVERYTHING right - delicious meal, amazing service, lovely space to eat in. We'll definitely be back - couldn't fault the food or service, what more can you ask for! :) To the lovely waiter who asked at the end of the meal did we have a good time and was he doing his job right - yes, good sir, you certainly are!

First time at this new restaurant in Oakleigh. The decor and layout is great very light and rustic. We tried a few of the oysters cooked and raw very good excellent choices from around Australia .
The main lobster with lemon butter was delicious I got complimentary rocket salad. The clam chowder ok I was a bit disappointed I was expecting beautiful seafood stock and not much seafood in the chowder, the bread with it was yummy.
We tried the famous gay time dessert I did love it very rich good one to share.
Service was slow but the waiter kept coming by to see how we were and he really helped explain the menu and made great suggestions. They have only been opened 3 months it will get better I think as they settle in more.
We will be back to try the platters they looked amazing. It's great to have this type if restaurant in Oakleigh.
We've been to the Richmond branch a few times and loved it. Disappointed that it was booked out, we decided to try the oakliegh branch and it did not disappoint! The food was delicious and service was impeccable!! There's nothing I can fault, such a wonderful restaurant and looking forward to coming back!!
Burgerman
We went expecting that it would be as good as the mothership in Richmond, we were sadly disappointed by the soggy fish that was supposed to have a crispy skin, the prawns we were served were stale and inedible, to be fair the service was good and the oysters fresh. We so wanted to like this place being a point of difference in a sea of Greek restaurants all serving the same food. But unless they pick up their game we won't return

The best seafood restaurant in town! Highly recommended for foodie and seafood lover! Just love everything in the platter, especially the fresh oysters. Remember to get the Golden Gay time! Yummo!

We came to the new Oakleigh restaurant on a living social voucher and wow did they deliver! The staff were very friendly and just the right amount of attentive. And the food...so good.
The platter had a variety of fish, mussels, squid and more but my favourite was the Moreton bay bug. The quality of seafood was definitely fresh and well sourced.

I think we got lucky, as it was a Sunday and the bartender offered to experiment his squid ink cocktail on us which I hope they add to the menu for those who are a little adventurous!

We were so full but not full enough to put us off dessert. I had the creme brûlée and my partner got their golden gaytime - both being delicious.

Next time I must try the oyster shots....

I would highly recommend going here!
Great staff, great food ☺️

Lovely ambience and stylish decor, accompanied by immaculate service and decadent seafood, what can you pick on? We had the deluxe seafood platter with a bottle of house white and a dessert each. The food didn't take long to arrive and looked so mouthwatering that we were already drooling waiting to dig in while the waiter was introducing everything on the platter. Everything tasted amazing and the wine complemented our meal very well. We devoured the entire thing within 20 minutes! My favourites were the oysters and prawns (they were perfectly seasoned, sitting on top of the scallops). The only minor problem I found was that the mussels were a bit overcooked and have shrunken to small pieces. The napoli broth was absolutely delicious and I also dipped some of my food in it. We did find the amount of food slightly insufficient for our appetite (and we have fairly healthy appetites), but the desserts filled us up in the end. The golden gaytime was good but can be a tad sweet for some people's palate. I enjoyed my creme brulee, it was smooth and not overly sweet, and the salted caramel, chocolate mousse, raspberries and macaroons on the side contributed to a nice combination of flavours. Also ordered two long blacks and they were on the house! Thanks guys, you made it a great evening for us!

Saturday night out for dinner. We used a discount cudo voucher. Were treated very well by staff who explained what was included in the deal. Food was exceptional. Everything was fresh with unique little touches. Waiters were attentive but not intrusive. Definitely worth visiting. We'll be going back.

Had a lovely dinner at Richmond Oysters tonight. The decor at the Oakleigh venue is far nicer than the Richmond location- very spacious and comfortable. The service was impeccable too. Definitely couldn't tell that the restaurant is only brand new. I ordered the grilled swordfish with salsa verde, steamed broccoli and a rocket, parmesan and pear salad. The portion size was fantastic (two fillets of swordfish) and everything was very tasty and well cooked. I'll certainly be returning to try the rest of the menu very soon.

So good to have this change in food style In Oakleigh central !! Nothing against traditional Greek souvlaki, however , it's great to have other choices and a nicer room to have a more diverse dining experience ! Whilst service was a little lagging , which can always vary at restaurants, however I will over look it, as the food experience itself out shone the wait staff lacklustre performance.. The platter for two is A tad pricey , so not something you could do regularly . The menu is extensive and other fish meals seem on par with Current market value . And all fish is from Australia and the occasional NZ fish ! Oysters are freshly shucked which is a priority in my world if choosing oysters !

It's brilliant that I don't have to go all the way to Richmond to get my Richmond oysters fix its exactly what this area was screaming for the cocktail menu is the best yes I'm a bloke and yes I drink cocktails no shame in that ! The bar manager is an absolute guru he will make what ever you like as my missus and myself have asked him to do so ! And the food is awesome !!!

Pleasant evening with the platters, desserts and drinks.
Most of us have to agree to mention the Moreton Bay bugs (with hollandaise and roe), mussel claypot with its' delectable stock, Sydney oysters and the creme brulee - in which the macaron that comes with it isn't necessary.
Would love to try the paella next time.
Great place with a fantastic seafood focussed menu. Today I tried the mussels with cream, chilli and herbs for main and then the golden gaytime for dessert, both were delicious! Will definitely be back!

If you're comfortable with the pricing you're in for a treat at Richmond Oysters Oakleigh.

Great ambience in very modern surrounds, great service (really this was a highlight) from a very professional and attentive team and not to mention high quality seafood.

My wife and I had the seafood platter for two and golden gay time dessert which were both of tremendous quality, delicious with the seafood cooked to perfection and allowed to shine with simple seasoning and flavours.

The presentation as my photos will attest to was also superb.

High quality coffee topped off a super evening.

This is one of Oakleigh's differentiators (given the heavy focus on traditional Hellenic establishments) and great for a special occasion in the suburbs that's difficult to match.

Highly recommended.

Had a seafood platter that had both a cold and hot dishes. Soft shell crab, oysters and mussels were great but the restaurants version of a golden gaytime dessert was the best and greatly presented!

I must say the seafoods are awesome! Oysters are so fresh and the seafood platter is yum too. The staffs are nice and patient while serving us, explained clearly what is on the platter and given advice for drinks. This is the place that you must to visit place for seafood lover!

Had fish and chips here dine in and it was the best fish and chips I have ever had in my life! Jacob who served us was extremely helpful and friendly, they made us feel right at home and served us with the utmost respect.

I then returned a month later and had a hot and cold seafood platter, dozen natural oysters plus the Creme Brulee. I went with my inlaws, partner and brother and we all only had positive things to say about the experience. The Japanese style oysters in the platter were to die for. There was not one thing on the platter that wasn't devoured. Two experiences that were both 10/10 ... could not fault the service or the food.

What can I honestly say about a restaurant that delivers the freshest Seafood with a atmosphere unmatched.. Waiters were great at recommending a platter and making our bill cheaper and had great knowledge about the product. From the amazing staff and awesome cocktails and wine selection, I can honestly say I will be coming back to Oakleigh Oyster again and again..
