4.5 forever one of my favourite fish and chip chains! The fish here is always grilled to perfection and I am just in love with the chips salad and grilled fish combo! My go to dressing is the Japanese one but lately I’ve been enjoying the African! The potato cakes here are also amazing, super crunchy!
Ordered Hunky Dory takeaway with my partner. We wanted something that would be delivered quickly and HD did not disappoint.
‘Fishless’ fish - my partner wanted to try these as he was curious. He stated that it tasted like fish but a low quality one kind of like the fish you’d find in a frozen fish finger.
Hunky bowl with grilled fish - nice and not too heavy for an evening meal. Would’ve liked more veg and less rice as more than half the bowl was rice.
Bright, open ambiance with plenty of seating, Hunky Dory Oakleigh is another branch for great fish and chips.
I always go for grilled - the barramundi is juicy, firm but still soft and the Mediterranean seasoning is zesty.
Paired with a super salad, the quinoa is healthy and filling at the same time, with little pops of juiciness from the dried cranberries.
Love the calamari strips as well, they are tender and have a great bite to them.
And can't go past classics like dim sims...this time I had them steamed because I'm trying to be a little healthy ... lol
Always enjoy eating here for fresh and smartly served fish and chips. I just love the seafood mix grill served with chunky chips and fab salad.. keep up the good work guys!
Fresh fish, fresh flavours... at a higher cost.
I understand this place is a franchise and franchises can tend to lose its “love” when it comes to preparing food.
Not this place! The fish was fresh as anything, the calamari were perfectly cooked with great flavour. Do you know when you get calamari and they can be stringy... not here! They were perfect!
The sizes of plates is very generous too; as I said above it’s at a higher cost but with the quality of food that’s not an issue!

This place isn't just your standard fish and chip shop, it's a great little restaurant offering a variety of seafood options.
Food is always cooked fresh and there are heaps of dishes to choose from. Prices are decent and portion sized are generous.

Exceptional. You cannot get any better if you like your fish. Whole fish, freshly grilled in the most authentic, flavoursome manner. You can choose it from an impressive display. An accompaniment of freshly cut coleslaw with its own unique dressing makes it even better, although you can choose from a range of salads you can actually see in the display. The menu has a diverse range of dishes for those wishing to have traditional fish and chips or those seeking a healthy option.
Beer and wine also available.
One could eat here every day. A casual, welcoming atmosphere with attentive staff who take pride in their food. A welcome addition to the fine selection of eateries in Oakleigh.
First time trying out the Oakleigh Hunky Dory after being a big fan of the Highett one. Great portion sizes , a variety of healthy alternatives and well priced food. Sweet potato cakes are the best and a must try !!

This has to be the best fish and chips that I've had.
Firstly, when walking into the store, there isn't a fishy or greasy smell. It smells clean. And it looks spotless even with customers inside enjoying their meals.
Secondly, the front of house staff were really lovely and tried to make space for my party of two (myself on crutches with a spinal injury, and my elderly father with a walking stick) when we got there shortly before they had a private function booking out the entire venue (it was a pleasant day so we sat under the umbrellas in the mall).
And then there's the food - we got a meal for two and a side of southern style cauliflower. The cauliflower was heavenly, the calamari was approximately half a squid (slight exaggeration, but it was huge) and cooked absolutely perfectly in a light batter that doesn't overpower the food and doesn't sit heavy in the stomach. The flake was high quality and again my, perfectly cooked. What we thought was going to be a small side of chips each was a mountain of chips that were nice and crisp outside and fluffy inside which we couldn't finish because their serving was so generous.
I can't leave out the dipping sauces. Absolutely divine is all I can say.
If the pricing seems a little higher than your average fish and chips, it's absolutely worth it for the quality and quantity of what you get. They really do cook everything to that moment of perfection, and the serving you get is not lacking but instead is generous - I don't remember the last time a meal for two people left two people full without being able to finish the meal.
HIGHLY recommend, and I'll be returning for sure!

Hunky Dory is always one of the best fish and chips.
But the surprise was the veg burger, to which I'd give 10/10.
They have a few new additions for the vegetarian and vegan people.
The food was incredible, full of flavor and very fresh.
I love the atmosphere and the stuff are lovely. Always attention to detail and happy to help.
I was also very impressed with the cleanliness of the store.
I will be coming back and bringing my family and friends.
I definitely recommend.
Tried there grilled fish plate with african sauce. Must say too good :) Will definatlg go again. But i wish if there will be more chips to eat . Haha
Enjoyed the food. The seafood was a bit salty but still enjoyable. Greek salad was nice. Good service too!
Reasonably fresh seafood, particularly love the wide selection of menus. I like the fact that they have fish with salad as a set when I don’t feel like eating carbs, it’s becoming my go-to set. Nice portions as well.
