Ma's favourite place. Never dissatisfied. Family dinners are always done right here but sometimes you have hard time communicating with the waiting staff.
We have been to Rice on many occasions and have never been disappointed with the food. The Pepper Chicken and Soft Shell Crab are amazing. The take-away has also been very good. The only disappointment is they insist that you can't split the bill eg 1/3rd or one half each which is very frustrating considering that people want to use credit cards and generally don't carry cash. I would me more inclined to go to Chinatown in Gouger Street where I have never been knocked back from splitting the bill, which I don't think is a huge imposition for a Restaurant in this day and age.
Consistently great
Amazingly dependable for a great Chinese dinner. The prawn paste fried chicken house special is unique and absolutely fabulous.
The outside of Rice is quite unassuming. Right next to the famous Bar 9 on Glen Osmond Road, the place seems popular enough & I've had some great takeaway from there before.
We decided on this occasion to dine in & I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. The service was outstanding with a lovely waiter looking after us.
We got staples, to be honest. Chicken & black bean, fried rice & Duck breast. BB chicken was great. The Chicken was cut finely which means it was tender and the flavour had really penetrated. One of my favourite Chinese black bean dishes that I've ever had. The rice was wonderful as well.
My partner had the roast duck and he did complain that it was a little too fatty. I had a bit and i tended to agree. Won't stop me from coming back though! Value for money, super friendly and really great Chinese food.
Had a super great dinner last night. Soft shell crab was the fav dish. Ordered the steamed seafood tofu and roasted duck too. Although service is slightly slow, will definitely come back for more tasty food!!
Solid Performance. Dinner for a party of 3 adults, 4 teen or near teen kids and a restaurant none of us had been to before. Not only that but I've had more than my fair share of visits to Chinese restaurants all over the world and one of the kids considers himself quite a dab hand at Asian foods.
Rice did a great job. The food was very good, not quite the pizazz of a top flight Chinese restaurant but a very good selection of dishes was enjoyed by all. A reasonable wine list too. It was also a pleasant surprise to the hip pocket at $140 ish for 7 excluding drinks (and we are all big eaters). The serving sizes were good and to be honest given the generosity of the serves we over ordered!
Only negative was the service was a little slow probably due to them being very busy but the staff were polite, communicated when a dish was delayed and this in no way left us with any negative feelings.
Would we go again and do I recommend it? Yes, without a doubt.
Oh yes and there is a really narrow driveway immediately on the city side of the restaurant with a good bit of parking out back.
Had dinner here last night. Fantastic food and brilliant service. Bbq honey pork, salt pepper squid, duck, beef noodles and vegetarian fried rice were all perfect.
The taste for everything was spot on! The highlight for me is the crispy chicken with prawn paste!!! Will definitely be coming back.
Came for my Christmas party last year and loved it. Has some beautiful meat and vegetarian dishes. Highlight was the sizzling beef beautiful flavoured and delicious.
Without doubt, the best Peking duck in Adelaide. Authentic, great value and delicious. Really enjoy the meal. Love the Peking duck and salt pepper eggplant. Service is attentive. Will definitely come back
First time eating with the new owners (they took over for 2 years now) and I can see they are trying hard to win back old customers. Previous owners made great food with a few stand out signature dishes which is not the same for the current owners.
Food was good but nothing outstanding, though the service was really good and friendly. They were very accommodating and were happy to talk to customers which was nice to see. The serving size was good and the prices reasonable.
Only minor thing was Midway through dinner we could smell cigarette smoke, which we hoped it was not coming from the kitchen, it definitely went through the restaurant.
Rice Chinese Cuisine has changed the trading hours from now on, the restaurant is opening every night from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Authentic Shanghai style food and good service!
Very like the sweet crispy fish. But spicy chicken tasted like the meat was not fresh enough.
