Review Neelam Indian Restaurant - Parramatta

Scott McIntyre
Very disappointing! Food is not fresh. I had the Aloo Tikki which seemed to be a few days old. Crust was stale and tough and potato inside was dry without much flavour. It must have been heated in microwave as it was hot on the outside but stone cold in the middle. Half tandoori chicken and the chicken was not fresh either. Was dry, tough and stringy with an unpleasant taste I only ate a bit of the food and did not feel well after eating what I did. The manager asked me how was the food and I told him it was not good. He just said he will rectify this. Still charged me full price for bad food. Disappointing as I had eaten at Neelam a few years ago and that time the food was great

The restaurant provides great taste with great Indian masalas. Veg and non veg both the options are available. My fav is desi murgi, palak paneer, chicken kadahi masala and cheese garlic naan. They cook to the customization also like less or more spicy etc.

This place is never too busy and sometimes the service can be a little slow, but the food and cocktails here are great - Fresh, affordable, value for money, authentic and delicious. There is some room for improvement here and there.. like, they can work on their presentation and decor.. but by and large a great place for Indian food. This business can do so much better and has great potential to grow. Would recommend everyone who loves Indian food to check this place out.

Great food, good environment. There is a bit waiting time until you get you food , specially during the pick time. Staff are also very friendly. Definitely worth trying if you are in Parramatta.

Went to Neelam Restaurant on Sunday, it was really quiet so they took our order instantly. And service was quick. Food taste good. But I find menu little bit expensive. Payment: Both Cash and Card. Minimum card payment is $30 Location: Walking distance from Parramatta station Cleaning: Good Service:Good

Pros: Perfect location. Staffs are cordial & agile. The vegetarian food of garlic Naan, shahi paneer & dal fry was very tasty. The best Indian food I had in Sydney from a restaurant in the past 3 years. Quantity is very generous.Price is excellent for the quality.Fresh food & choice of being healthy as I did not see excess oil in the food. Will eat again 100%. Cons: Nothing.

Ordered takeaway and we enjoyed it. They customized our order (mild as possible) and have great friendly service. Definitely recommend the chicken biryani and chicken 65. We will be back!

This is one of the best Indian restaurants that I've tried in Parramatta. We came for dinner after getting a flyer given to us. I loved the food. The garlic naan was delicious. The cheese naan wasn't as good, but still nice. We also had the butter chicken and the prawn curry. The butter chicken was so creamy and tender. The prawns were spicy, but not too much so. The sauce was thick and rich for both dishes. I would definitely go back. I'd love to try a few more dishes. The service was quick. They seem to do good business, though we did not have to wait long for our food. They have a $30 minimum for EFTPOS, which is a bit annoying though. The setting and decor are nice too. It's set up in such a way, as to dampen some of the noise that you can get in a crowded restaurant. Despite the fact that the place was almost full, it wasn't loud or difficult to hear. Good prices too. I'll be back again.

The place has options suitable for both vegetarians and non vegetarians.Tried the chicken dish and mixed veg curry and prefer their vegetarian preparation more.

Give it a skip and walk across to Harris Park for better options.
The food was subpar the competition and the restaurant was clearly ill equipped to handle the lunch hour traffic.
There was just one server, and over worked is an understatement.
The location is the highlight of the joint.

The staff were inattentive and seemed to be making forced interaction and that too was minimal. The food took a long time to arrive and the naan was the last item to arrive, after the other items had already come, when it should've been the first. The lighting and ambience were dull and the prices were too high, especially compared to the serving sizes. The food itself tasted good enough, tasty on an empty stomach but quite standard and nothing to write home about.

Went there for lunch today, staff was very unwelcoming with no courtesy- owner was shouting at staff in front of us- definitely not the ideal environment
Food was alright- wouldn't recommend the sheekh kebab

A deadly combination of poor food and ignorant staff .The food is cheap but tasteless and poor in quality. The staff doesn't care about your concerns because they know you are going to pay the bill irrespective of the fact that you liked it or not.Worth a try if you like taking risk despite knowing the outcome !

We had a takeaway order for Chicken Tandoori, Chicken Chettinad and Garlic Naan. I was very disappointed with the quality of the food. Chicken Tandoori - No flavor, loads of color (red) and felt like it was reheated. Chicken Chettinad - Artificial taste (readymade curry paste available in the market), loads of oil with no real taste and chicken evidently looked to have been added to the curry post heating. Garlic Naan - As the name suggests, it should have had fresh garlic in it but to my surprise instead of actual garlic it had garlic powder (available in Woolworths, coles). To top it all, I couldn't understand how my order was delivered within 10 mins when the time for preparing chicken tandoori is a minimum of 20 mins. All in all it felt like a waste of my money. I would dearly like a refund. Hope you improve in the future.

Had dinner there last night, the staff was the worst and had absolutely no courtesy of serving. Especially a girl in spectacles, was rude and mannerless who had no training on how to behave with customers. Would never go back again and never recommend either.

Went there on a Friday eve and there were only 2 more couples in the entire place. The staff greeted us nicely upon welcome but soon were very cold on taking orders and serving. Cutlery was missing too. Ordered a mix of veg and non veg, food was just alright, not the best you can ask for. We asked a bowl for Daal (lentils) and they asked us ‘why’ ! Anyways, I guess they expected us to dig in from the serving bowl May be. Unhappy with staff service which spoilt my overall mood of being there. If management is reading this, pls train your staff to be courteous. An empty place on Friday eve near Church street, Parramatta says something.

Went to Neelam for lunch yesterday. Food was good however service staff could definitely have been friendlier and welcoming. Portions too were small.

I walked in this place around lunch time to try there food. Apparently it's one of those placing with dull lighting and soft music. As soon as I walked in someone acknowledged my entry with a smile and helped me through to a comfortable seat.

I ordered there lunch Non veg thali which I would say was nice. It came with butter chicken, lamb curry, dal and raita with rice and 1 naan. It costed me $11.90 and I think most of it was good. They took my feedback in the end if the food was good, which tells me that they care.

It seemed to me like that decent place type which has ok ambience, food is above average, staff is good and pricing is alrite.

Everyone at work kept going on about this place so I made my colleague bring me here. Had the non-vego thali and it was a bit underwhelming to be honest. Generally OK but everything just tasted kind of meh. The salad side was mostly onion pieces and I got one piece of pickle. Curries needed more flavor and spice. Water glasses were flecked with old food and jug was a little rusty. Oh, and service? Hope you like waiting for the one person there to take their sweet time coming out of the kitchen before you're seated only for them to disappear for long intervals between bringing water, menus, orders and food.

Ambience is pathetic.
Food is ok sort of , but the time thay take to serve it makes it worse.
More chilli is the definition of more spicy.
Would not recommend it

I've eaten here about 6 times now and have really enjoyed it. The naan is perfect - fluffy and crispy. The peshwari naan is the best I've had anywhere in Sydney. Good curries too, I'm trying different ones each time and haven't found anything to disappoint yet. The value is reasonable, usually around $20 per person, and they always use tender meat not horrible cuts.

I'm surprised others complained about service, I always found the staff pleasant and reasonably attentive.

Very bad service although food was good and the carpet was stinky , female staff was not even considering my wife's order. Very bad !! Better order take away from them.

Place has very nice decor for an Indian restaurant but it stops there. The service here is horrible, my family was one of two tables in here at the time and there were 4 staff members standing around the bar not paying attention and we had to get up and call them each time we needed them, not attentive at all. Either no music at all at times or they play a weird selection.
The food is average. We ordered the veg mixed platter for the entree and it was just meant for one person with not a variety in the selection and was so spicy that it was almost uneatable. Butter chicken for the main was so mild it was bland. The non veg thali was the only decent tasting thing to land on our table but you can't choose the curries it comes with so if like my mum you don't eat lamb you only end up with one non veg curry on your plate. We had to wave them down again to request to clear our table 20 mins after they could see we had finished. This place is a bit of a hit and miss.

India on a plate! That pretty much sums up what a thali is.

If you've never had a thali before, it is an Indian meal of saffron rice and naan with a little bit of various vegetable and meat curries, raita and salad. Each bite gives you different taste and texture. You literally have all the flavours of Indian cuisine on one single plate! If you haven't had Indian food before, this is the perfect meal for introduction. And oh, prepare to use your fingers if you want to go traditional. Hands are not just for high fiving but also for tearing down the naan and dipping it in the curries.

If you're keen in trying this out, Neelam in Parramatta offers both non-vegetarian and vegetarian thalis as a lunch special for only $12. That's a bargain! Non-vegetarian thali comes with two meat curries and one vegetable curry. While the vegetarian thali comes with the three vegetable curries.

On our visit, we ordered the non-vegetarian thali (of course!). The one we had came with butter chicken, lamb rogan and lentils curry. The chicken was flavourful and great with naan. I don't like lamb, but Neelam's lamb rogan was just so good I just can't stop myself from munching. It doesn't have the smell of lamb that turns me off. A spoonful of safron rice with lamb rogan is simply delightful. The lentils curry carry extra heat so best to chow down a couple of the salad to cool down your tongue after the lentils.

This is a no brainer for me. We will definitely come back to Neelam to try out their other dishes.

We tried makke di roti and sarso da sag here - it was delicious! It was served with lots of yummy butter - had very authentic Punjabi taste!

My first time being in Parramatta and it was definitely a good choice to have lunch here. I would say this place is a... Diamond in the rough!

The restaurant is pretty descent, interesting choice of music playing in the background and nice table setting covered with paper.

Ordered the lunch special- Vegetarian Thali
As seen in photos you'll get three types of curry, a little pickled salad, rice and nan.

Curries were good as expected and...

their Nan... is soo soft and DELICIOUS! I have to come back here to try other dishes!

We have had dinner quite a few times and also ordered from here. Each time the food has been good with handsome portions, and when delivered came within the time they said it would take. The ambience is also nice and service friendly. The lunch thali is quite good! Overall seems good value.
