Review Kun Yao Thai Restaurant - Patterson Lakes

This restaurant is almost an hours drive from me (meeting friends that live on that side of town), but my gosh it was worth each and every mile. The food here was beautiful. The decor is lovely and the service was good. There was six of us, and each of us enjoyed what we ordered. Everything went right (other than forgetting one side dish of coconut rice which came out promptly after reminding them), and otherwise it was a good experience. I got curry puffs and chew chee salmon, and both were scrumptious. I wouldn't hesitate to come back here again. You do need to search for it, as it's in a shopping complex and tucked in towards the back, but it's worth giving it a go. And once you're done eating, especially in summer, just take a minute stroll to the lake front where it's just beautiful and serene. Definitely come here if you're in the area ... or if you too have friends that live closer to it than you do, but it's a hike. It's truly worth it.

Absolutely authentic Thai food. The curry and stir fried food is like eating it on the streets of Pattaya. I have been to a few Thai places in VIC which claim to be authentic but this one beats them all.

The Kung pao yao is Very over rated and sadly i cant go through the whole meal as its too oily. The Chicken is too battered and you cant finish the food unless if you can tollerate it. The Satay Chicken was much better (first picture). The quality has dropped in the last couple of years. The Waiters are nice and polite.

Food was fantastic and our service was prompt and friendly. Many of the dishes are battered but it is a light batter and we really liked it. We had 6 different starters and 6 mains and all were good. Duck stir fry and fish were favourites. They also do take away.

The food i ordered was pretty good but the need to work a bit on their customer service. But other than that i would recommend this place

The food is amazing, restaurant is very clean and staff are nice ,however the lights are so bright would help with the ambiance it they could dim them, also when the plates come out they are freezing, I always ask the girl to heat them , other than a couple of things I would have given four and a half

Owner is absolutely horrible. Worst customer service experience I’ve had. I called back to advise items were missing from delivered order and she abused me and blocked my number for some unknown reason. Confused as we have supported this business weekly over the past 6 months without a complaint.

Good food. Nice ambiance. Very average service. No bill splitting, which is unacceptable in this age. I wouldn't return.

Food from this place is always good. Flavours are lovely.

Food was eatable. If you like real Thai cuisine, this isn't a good choice. Service was slow. Long line waiting for take away food. Unreasonable price!

love it. It's one of the few authentic thai restaurants in Melbourne. Service is good and food is very good quality. My favourite thai food around the area.

Probably the best thai food in the area , service not at the highest quality, but the food makes up for it ! I would recommend this restaurant !

Disappointed. For the area and competition you have, I would think your food would be out of this world for your prices. Food was average, I can name 5 other Thai places I would pick first in the general area, food was bland, average, over cooked and waaaay overpriced. Sorry.

Best Thai in the area! I've been a regular for 2 years now and when I have friends visit from outside the area they always request to go back there. Seriously delicious. Well worth a visit!

Probably the best Thai restaurant around the area. We ordered Chicken special and Beef Massaman curry. Both are absolutely delicious! When we go around the area for dinner, will definitely go back.

We always get our Thai food from Kun Yao as it is always beautiful and tasty. We use to go Brown Rice in Edithavle, however have switched as we believe the food is better here. Some of the waitresses are not friendly and welcoming, however the food is excellent so that will not stop us from returning!

Decided to try Kun Yao for the first time last night with a take away order. Small Thai restaurant hidden in the Patterson Lakes shopping precinct.
Chicken satay's o.k close to being under cooked but just scrapped in. Pad Thai not good, no taste, missing lime flavor, nuts, and that sweet Thai taste. Missed the mark by a mile. Red beef curry, if I was a betting man I would say the beef was boiled.... and then added to the water like broth. Not worth a second chance sorry.

Best Thai food in the area - few of the dishes we tried are with generous amount with lots of herbs. Especially love the deep fried fish fillets and curry were very delicious! Service was nice. Highly recommended.

Great restaurant!!! Food was fantastic loved the massaman beef!!!!! but sadly service was poor, me and my husband had trouble speaking to one of the Thai waiters due to a language barrier, never had this problem until very recent, many mistakes were made even the simple drink order. I hope something can be done to improve this.

We used to love the place and were regular customers but since the owner has changed a few months ago it's gone massively downhill. The food is not nearly as good as it used to be and we had take away orders stuffed up twice already. Not happy, we will look for a new Thai.

A friendly, delicious place to have Thai - probably Carrum's best Thai.
Their special dish, the Pad Gui Kun Yao is their signature dish.
The prices can be a bit high, but some of their items are tasty and fragrant.

So disappointing. Kun Yao used to be one of our favourite local restaurants but our experience tonight was terrible. The food was so far below par it was almost inedible. It has recently changed hands, I believe, and the new owners have a lot of work to do by tonight's standards. It would take a huge amount of convincing for me to go back.

The best Thai around. Always great service and the best tasting Thai food around is why we only come here. The food here always tastes that much fresher than the other places we've tried. Worth it.

Glenn Thompson. Best Thai food in the South East and probably the rest of Melbourne!! I've had other Thai food from around Patterson Lakes / Seaford / Frankston and this is by far the best!!!

Absolutely fantastic food. The thai cuisine here are very authentic. As an asian myself, it reminds me of my parents home cooking. My family actually enjoyed dining here and they rarely dine out as they feel nothing compares to their home cooking.
Other than the food here being fantastic, the staff here are very friendly as well.

Very friendly staff, nice big tables which is unusual for some Thai restaurants but is excellent makes it easy to share meals! Very good food quick service and reasonable price will be back for sure and recommending to friends

Yummy. Dined here last week and was pleasantly surprised. The meal was delicious. You have to try the Chicken Satays for entree. I then had the Kun Yao Chicken. Absolutely beautiful. My husband's omelette was to die for. We will definitely be back to this one - a real keeper. Also service was excellent, the waitress was every so helpful.

The food here is terrible. We ordered takeaway and we couldn't finish our meals. The rice was mushy, veggies not fresh and we were horrified to discover minced beef in the pad grapao. Yuck, never again!

This thai restaurant is my favourite, i love going there the waitress's are fantastic and friendly. Its decor is great and they have just renovated. The food and the atmosphere is great also, Favourite Dish is the number 26 Chicken special or duck. and the owners always go out of the way also to make you happy. Try it if you havent been there its my favourite restaurant and i have had many birthdays, christmas parties there also. Well done guys. Cathy O
I would eat there every night if i could as i love thai food and i have even been to thailand also.

Not good. Not a very good experience...waitresses were friendly, alcohol was cheap but these were the only good things i have to say...the food was disgusting....just thawed frozen meals probably bought in bulk from asia...three prawns in a prawn dish and the prawns were as soft as mash potatoes...the rice was also as soft as mash potato, i had chicken and cashew stir fry and the chicken was clearly some kind of bleached frozen off cut...the prawn spring rolls were actually "minced fish" spring rolls and by minced fish i mean heads tails and off cuts, there is no real meat or fillet dishes to be had here, only frozen meals and the cheapest of cheap off cuts...wont be going back.
