Came in for a late lunch on a Thursday afternoon after reading some good reviews about Short Black. Ordered a skim flat white to start which was astoundingly good. The news got better with the burger. I'm not normally a fan of thin pattied burgers, but this one was fantastic. Made with love (properly built up with the meat patties separated by tomato, pickle, and sauce), this burger tasted the part. This was accompanied by spot-on shoe-string fries, crispy, seasoned perfectly, and accompanied by a small pot of spiced mayo. Only downside was the burger bun was a bit small for the outsize burger, making it rather messy to eat, but you can use the knife and fork provided if you really must. Will bring my wife next time!
Have been a regular here for years - the food and coffee are great and the owners and their staff are always friendly and obliging. They recently catered for my birthday party and everyone commented on how delicious and stylish the food was.

First visit here yesterday for lunch with ex work colleagues. Had the basic breakfast (Saturday - serve from breakfast menu all day ) & the best hot chocolate I have had in ages. Will definitely be coming back.

Had to wait about 5 minutes for a table because they had a full house and it wasn’t even 11am yet! Really shows how great their food and service is. The staff were efficient with getting us seated and promptly took our order. Our food and drinks came quite fast and everything was absolutely perfect. We ordered the sautéed mushrooms and the basic breakfast. Eggs were perfectly poached and scrambled the each bite of mushroom was bursting with flavour. Will absolutely be making this one of our regular cafes! If we can manage to get a seat.
I’ve been to this cafe a few times now. The staff are welcoming and attentive. They have a big range of food on the menu so there is something for everyone. The food has been consistently good and portions are quiet large. The place is usually pretty busy so you might not get a table straight away but service is quick so you don’t usually have to wait long.
The staff is always really lovely and welcoming! Food can be a bit bland/dry or too salty but is quite nice (although a little bit pricey). Really nice atmosphere to sit and chat!
I’ve been here with my wife and daughter a few times for breakfast and lunch and I’ve found the service is always great and the food there is beautiful. The staff were friendly and made us feel welcome, didn’t have to wait long for the food to arrive. Could easily go there again.

Great food, great drinks, and great coffee. We came here on a busy Saturday morning, waited for 5mins and got a table. Ordered buttermilk fried chicken burger and steak sandwich, absolutely delicious! Nice neighbourhood gem! Will definitely come back as we live very close!

Best cafe in the area although a little pricey for main meals. Have been coming here for as long as I can remember and the food never fails to impress. A bit pricey for lunch but worth it if you don't go very often

Being a local I get to enjoy this place quite often. With great food creations weekly and fast service this place is a local favorite of many a local.
If there is a down side to this place is it probably needs some updating internally to make it fee fresh and alive again

Our first time here, what a great place. Service was good, they just know when and what to offer at the right time. We had breakfast there and was impressed with the food and coffee as well.
Love coming here for breakfast/lunch. Serving sizes are very generous and prices are reasonable. Food is always of great quality with great options for both breakfast or lunch. Service is always great as well. Great little cafe, the only downside is that it gets super packed!
After trying every other Cafe in Penshurst finally went into Short Black yesterday.
My fiance and I were both greeted immediately, shown to a table and given water. Our coffee orders were then taken and within minutes arrived. Soy latte was apparently good and my double shot latte was excellent. Without a doubt it was instantly in my top 5 coffee list.
We went back in this morning and to my surprise the barista remembered our order. Will definitely be coming back.
A busy local cafe but surly the one you will remember. My friend tried once seven years ago before move interstate and still want come back because it is "very good".
Weekend special menu @sbpenshurst. The portion is big enough to skip dessert (sadly hahaha). The Italian baked eggs was very hearty and filling. The smoked salmon With poached egg dish is another highlight. Egg poached to perfect, look that yolk! Smoked salmon, grilled asparagus and avocado combine together to start a prefect Sunday. Taste refreshing, not too heavy and i like how they put source on the side not pour on the toast.

Love this place. Every weekend i pick up my take away coffees and a quick feed before i hit the road. Best bacon and eggs sandwich in the area. The guys make a mean cap and give you the personal service you look for these days. Only down side it is a little small and always busy so tables are hard to come by

Lovely cafe with great food to match. Affordable pricing for some delicious burgers and the milkshakes are equally as mouthwatering. Situated in a friendly neighbourhood with dog-walkers all day, there's a comforting vibe about the place.

There's something about Penshurst .... Expedition to the Penshurst strip near the railway station. Had the scrambled pesto eggs with a side of hash brown. It was served up on a board which I can forgive because the eggs were really tasty. Efficient, subtle service and quick turnaround when you need it. Did I mention the eggs had lots of bacon as well has haloumi thrown in. Good value local.

As our culture has become a cafe society most people have their favorite cafe where they are regulars and the barista remembers their coffee to their liking.. short black is that place for me. From the moment I enter short black someone has opened the door for me and the aroma of coffee is so evident. It's a smell that warms the soul. I can't wait to see what latte art they have come up with each time I visit.
The menu is fantastic but be sure to look at the specials board. I feel like short black has everything you could want. Sometimes you just want the simple things done well like bacon and eggs or you have the option of fancy quinoa porridge with preserved orange rind accompanied by a cold pressed juice. I believe you get what you pay for. The breakfast ranges from $10 -$20 and you get a very generous serving. Lunch is great too you have the option of barramundi with chick peas or avgolemono greek soup or moussaka from a Greek mum (maria) herself. Her 2 son's are there working too. I love seeing a family putting everything they've got into keeping their dream alive.
Above Average. The coffee is only average, the few times I've come here my short black has been a little burnt, but I've been told that their milk coffees and smoothies/shakes are better.
Their food is also very good and served in generous portions with the blackboard specials offering something different to the norm.
Their service and attentiveness however, is excellent and is a benchmark to other operators.

Short black is one of the best cafes in the St George area. The food is delicious, fresh and value for money. The service is impeccable and the staff are always accommodating and friendly. They strive to cater for any request. They make the best coffee.
Amazing service by far the best I have ever had. Scrambled eggs were silky, mushrooms full of flavour and great coffee. Strongly recommend and will come back even if it is 45min from home.
Penshurst gem!. My husband and I popped into Short Black for a second breakfast, this morning. We loved it!! My haloumi roll with chorizo, rocket & sun-dried tomatoes was delicious, my mocha was delectable and his chocolate milkshake was fabulous -- and THICK! Just the way a North American would want it. :=) The staff was very friendly, drinks & food came to us promptly and the café was tidy and tastefully decorated. Overall an excellent experience! We'll definitely go back -- gotta try the other menu items!

Had Brunch with my wife here. Kept it simple and had a bacon & egg roll. It was delicious, especially the Turkish Roll. The good Lady Wife had a hot Chocolate and I had a Latte. For a Cafe called Short Black you would think that they would have their coffee sorted. It was Judy the right side of passable. Had better had worse. The inside is welcoming and pleasant. The service on the money and overall a good experience. Maybe my coffee was a one off. Will try again.

Had a very good experience here. Staff friendly and helped out right away with seating, menus and orders. Food came quickly, as well as the coffee. Excellent presentation and serving size as well. The coffee was just the right strength with a nice aftertaste. I liked how the babyccino was served in a real cup too. Really good work!
