Review Amano Restaurant - Perth

Sasha Boswell
My partner and I came here on a whim for dinner as it was close to our hotel and we are SO glad we did. We got the $180 tasting menu between us - the food was more and more amazing with each dish that came. The oysters were huge and the octopus was the best we’ve had yet! Customer service was fast and efficient, our waitress was attentive and came back regularly to check on us. Couldn’t more highly recommend the dinner we had 😍😍

If there was 6 stars, we would have given it. Didn't know what to expect, though we had friends who'd eaten here and enjoyed the food. We were not disappointed and from the warm greetings through the paying the bill, the experience was first class. Staff were super attentive and knowledgeable, our waiter was French and was the nicest guy ever. Food was the best part.. we're both vegetarian and there were so great options and the food was divine. You have to experience the desserts to understand what they are, but our mousse, topped with smokey eggplant, arrived at the table with a glass jar, which when removed, was a visual delight. We'll definitely be back.

Came here for dinner the other night and had a nice experience. Friendly staff, good view right over the river, and delicious food. Prices were reasonable given the location, especially in comparison to competitor venues such as those in the Ritz. We had an oyster each to start, then the Kingfish and fettuccine allo scoglio, and a glass of Prosecco. Really delicious, and would come back to this place.

Such a bummer. The reviews looked brilliant, but it didn't live up to the hype. The views were great, wine list was extensive, but unfortunately the food wasn't much to talk about. Everything was just a bit bland.

One of the best dining experiences I have had in a long time. While I could talk about the food (waygu carpaccio was amazing), the pitch perfect service from the knowledgeable and attentive staff was a highlight that truly differentiated this from many restaurants. They made our experience a true delight.

It was a perfect day to have lunch on the river at Amano. I had purchased a 3 course Groupon voucher with lots of choices for each course. The food was scrumptious and I ordered Pinot Grigio to accompany the food. Its a shame that the restaurant does not get sun on that side during lunch time, but still a fabulous view. Great service also with a friendly welcome on arrival. Thank you to all the staff.

The octopus was tough and very strongly fishy. Didn't finish it for $37. We shared the rib eye steak for $85 and either it was frozen meat or it was not rested once cooked. It was very tough as all the juices had run out. The potatoes that came with the meat were like baked potato with no spice or anything. Totally uninspired my air fryer does better potatoes. The salad had a very interesting nutty dressing, sadly the best part of the meal. All dishes were very expensive. Service was very casual for such a pricey place - we had 4 different waitresses. The wood deck floor outside vibrated my chair every time they walked past which distracted me several times from conversation. Thankfully we had a voucher, it wasn't worth the money. I would have had a better quality and value meal at Nando's.

Had the most wonderful dinner at Amano's. The food was beautiful to look at and delicious to eat. And it was such a pleasure to receive wonderful service - including a story about wine from the owner - love that! Of course it helped that I was in good company with friends. Highly recommend for a great meal right on the water that won't break the bank.

I had a great experience! Food is excellent and served with extreme passion from all the staff. New combinations of flavours that amased me and make me wanting to taste more and more of these specialties with finely selected wines. The menu offers a new concept of meal by bringing real Italian traditions to the table. The view is definitely a great plus to all of this! Enjoy!

Fantastic views to complement with delicious food! Love the flavours of the scallop entree, and the octopus entree is an art on a plate. Enjoyed our bottle of Pinot Noir. As for mains, thoroughly enjoyed the tasty lamb, mushroom ragù with pappardelle, to perfectly cooked chargrilled wagyu beef and lamb rack as well. We like their take on sticky date pudding, a lighter version than the usual ones with a crusty outer, complement wells with the crème anglaise-a good finish to an enjoyable night. Thumbs up to the friendly staff on a busy night as well! :)

Definitely a new gem in Perth! I had one of the most beautiful lunch in a long time! Started with an excellent octopus as entree and seafood fettuccine as main. OMG! You can really taste the love and passion for the food in both dishes! My friend had the market fish...A delicious baramundi pan fried with Australian Bush greens and squid ink... For sure a new concept of Italian cuisine that includes the classic Nonna rules and a touch of fresh and new delicious ideas! Love it love it love it! Ah, and last but not least, the location is just gorgeous! Best wishes guys!

We had an awesome time at Amano! Manuel was very kind, welcoming and passionate about the dining and sensory experience you can live at Amano. From the explaination of the restaurant's name, to the sourcing of quality raw ingredients, from the history of dishes to the selection and matching of flavours at the palate! We tried the signature entree dish Capesante mare e monti, which was delicious, to then move to our absolute favourite: Pappardelle with such a mouth watering sauce of slow cooked lamb and mashroom ragu...to a super tender kangaroo loin steak! A true mixture of traditional Italian flavours revisited from a modern Australian angle. All of this in a setting to die for: litterally less than two meters from the riverfront with the city skyline in the backdrop...ideal both in winter and summer. We will certainly come back!

The team at Amano were amazing! We decided to host our work Christmas Party at their venue and although it was a 38 degree day and we were seated on the deck, everything else was perfect. The food was amazing! Services was amazing! The view was amazing! I had the pork belly for entree, wagyu beef for main and the pannacotta for dessert. All three were yum! We had almost 50 guests and everyone said the food, service and the view was great! Everyone got served in a timely manner and it was served hot and yummy. Thank you again, Manu, for all your help! I will definitely return.

By far the best pasta in Perth

On our visit from Melbourne, my husband and i had dinner here after a river cruise on the swan river. Not only was the service fantastic, but the food was amazing! We both had the gnocchi pomodoro and they were beautiful. Soft, light and melted in your mouth. We both thought the portion sizes could be a bit more for the price you pay. But apart from that a beautiful restaurant on the water, with friendly service, relaxing atmosphere and overall a great experience :)

Me and my partner used to come here all the time for dinner and loved it, we decided to come for lunch with our baby last week and when asking for a table for 2 they said no problem but as soon as we said we had a pram with our baby in it they said there wasn’t enough room for a pram and couldn’t accommodate us. Safe to say we will not be back and won’t be recommending this place. Very disappointed.

Went there for dinner with a group of 6. Had a variety of entrees, mains (consisted of predominantly pasta dishes) and desserts. Was really please with the meals- sizes were good and food tasted delicious. Only small complaint was Fremantle octopus which is part of the entree menu was slightly over cooked. Apart from it had a lovely meal there.

Great locatiob with swan river view. Fish and chips was my favourite. Also side dish broccolini was on point.🍴

This place kept coming up to visit. Finally dropped in for a Friday lunch. Great location, inside and outside seating. Food was really very good, portions are moderate. Drinks list was good but rich but it’s a restaurant of high quality.

Nice view and pleasant service. The food was quite enjoyable but didn’t impress. We used a Groupon so it was great value but we would have been disappointed if we had paid full price.

The scallops in our entree were perfectly cooked but the pea purée was watery and tasteless. Our arancini entree was quite nice but nothing special. My tortelloni main was interesting and tasty but overcooked so the mousse was chewy. The gnocchi was delicious with beautiful sugar snap peas. We were excited to try the bombe Alaska but it was a let-down and the least enjoyable dish of the day.

These guys really impressed us! We came here to celebrate my birthday and loved the food and the whole experience. Staff was friendly, service was quick and food delicious.

Amazing view by the water.
We had a table outside, it was beautiful.

A bit pricey for that service but you are also paying for the view.

The bread was freshly baked, tasted very good.
Kangaroo loin was ok, Pasta was very good.
I’d def be back to try more, the desert menu looked very good, sadly I couldnt order any as I was full.

Service was ok but not great.

Fantastic experience all-round. A beautiful setting overlooking the river, however still protected from the afternoon gusts. For entree, we shared the Arancini which were amazing. For mains, around the table we had the Squid Ink Tortelloni, Gnocci Giardino and Fettucine Allo Scoglio; all faultless. For dessert, Bombe Alaska, Chocolate Fondant and Affogato, again faultless.

Our delicious meals were complimented by the exceptionally friendly, professional and attentive service by our Waiter, Paul.

Highly recommend visiting this restaurant, every aspect of our evening was exceptional.

Amazing tortellini! Very good kangaroo which is one of the hardest proteins to get right. The Prosecco & passion fruit cocktail was yum too!
The staff were very friendly and nice.
Nice views.
My only negative is that it was windy but the heaters were off. We didn’t ask to turn them on either, so kind of our bad.

Have always loved this restaurant! This Tuesday I sent a special request via email, my email was responded promptly and everything was perfect when we were there. The food was awesome + great view, great service and we were always well looked after. Couldn't recommend more highly.

Near the water with great views. Pricey. Small portions. Fancy expensive wine list

Took waitstaff 30 minutes to come take our order and we were served within 5 minutes of making our order.

Ordered veggie gnocchi and squid ink tortelloni

Delicious stuffed seafood tortelloni. Very salty. Very buttery sauce. Strong seafood fishy flavors. Delicious. Must try it.

Gnocchi was in a tomato sauce. Was ok. Served with cheese of a whipped cream texture
Very cool

Split billing allowed.

Best for romantic dates or special occasions

Staff are too busy to come back to table once food has been served.

We have been here 3 or 4 times in the last year, most recently last weekend to celebrate an anniversary. The service is exceptional; staff are so friendly and welcoming. Food is delicious - everytime we come we always have the arancini and octopus... I could happily have a huge plate of just the arancini! For mains I had the gnocchi giardini which was so tasty and fluffy, and husband polished off the steak. Thanks for a great evening as always... We will inevitably be back again!

Great quality food. Great service. Has a relaxing and Italian atmosphere. Had the Wagyu steak and was completely worth my $42. Would come back.

Fantastic deal. As a Scoopon deal we weren’t expecting much but wow, what a deal! Great produce, adept cooking and amazing value. Get onto this quick while you can.

Simply delicious❤️ the food here showcases the atmosphere and stunning location. Between the 6 of us we could not find fault, and the service was exceptional- it’s under new management and if they keep up this level of excellence they shall fly. Lovingly presented dishes, fabulous wine, this venue ticks all the boxes. We shall be back soon to try the gin cured salmon amongst other things. It is rare for us to be presented with a menu that is so appealing it is difficult to know what not to choose! I lift my hat to Amano - we shall definitely be back for more 🥇

Came for a late week dinner for 4 and the restaurant was fairly empty. There is no denying this restaurant has one of the best locations in Perth being right on the water. However it can be a little on the noisy side if you are seated outside as it is right next door to a very busy & popular bar/pub. Service was polite and efficient, menu was fairly unexciting - the usual pasta and gnocchi offerings, steak, fish, lamb etc. Nothing really unique or standout (other than kangaroo). We ordered the lamb pappadelle which was the best dish of the night, the fish of the day (very ordinary), the steak which was pleasant and the lamb (nothing special). Expect to pay $40 a main which is pretty standard for Perth and considering the location of this restaurant, is fair and reasonable. Food wise this place doesn’t really shine in comparison with some of the great restaurants in Perth. If you’re looking for a nice location however, Amano would be worth checking out.

Wow. Just wow . I loved loved loved the gnocchi. The best gnocchi I have ever tasted . Staff were very friendly and accomodating . Thanks for such a great dining experience. I'll be back with my group of friends :)

Booked for a special occasion with the family and we were all very impressed. Great service, location and the food was delicious. We'll definitely be back! All dishes were amazing and the highlights were the Arancini, Gnocchi and Lemon Meringue pie.

Booked for a romantic date night and was certainly not disappointed! The knot bread and house made butter was fresh and delicious; we shared the brisket for entreé and the pairing with contemporary Australian vegetables was perfect, as was the pesto accompaniment; I had the seafood linguini and, as a fan of octopus and all things seafood, was impressed by the generosity of the ratio of seafood to pasta, as well as overall serve size; my partner had the gnocchi which she said was delicious, but they were a little softer than she'd have like, at a taste I had to agree, but if that's our one complaint for the night, you are doing well! The wine list offers a modest range of wines by the glass, but makes up for this in quality! I had a riesling which was full and aromatic, not over-tart, and had the richest full-bodied colour I have seen in any riesling I can remember ever having, if that was a more common example of the varietal, it woukd be far more popular! Staff were friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Would love to review their desserts, but was too full to order one (and at 6 foot 3 and 115kg, that's a review all of its own). I will be making this my venue of choice for business meetings. In short: Go here!

The view is undeniably good. What was starting to look like a nice night out for 2 was unfortunately ruined by a noisy big group. That's dining out for you though. Food was decent (and great portions!) but the maitre d or manager really wanted to sell the desserts, lmao.

Galileo still reigns supreme in Perth for me, but once again, nice to have a river view.

loved the bread and the house made butter, service was subpar as we came on a relatively quiet evening and still floor staff could've done better. had the seafood linguine, which i thought was just ok as most of the seafood was way overcooked and have hardened by the time i got to it. didn't mind it all until the owner decided to come over and blab about who he was what he had done on tv or something, really didn't like that. overall average night, average food...there are other better italian places around perth.

Made a reservation via Halo website..but was told of Amano.. ambience was nice but me and my wife thinks with their quality of food and service, the restaurant deserves white table linen!

Welcomed with warm house made bread to start the night.. simply fantastic food.. great friendly staff 👍👍 keep up the good work guys

Amano has replaced the restaurant Halo, but we were not in the least bit disappointed. Service was efficient and prompt, dishes were simple but tasty (although the Wagyu beef was almost certainly too tough to cruelly be Wagyu...). We had dinner in winter so they're wasn't really much of a view but I imagine the waterfront location would be stunning in the day or in summer at sunset. Highly recommend this restaurant!
