Review Matilda Bay Restaurant - Perth

Trent Pope
Came here for an engagement dinner and the food we all got was great with no complaints. The steak was cooked to perfection (rare) and we got broccolini which was also amazing. We did come here when there were two weddings on, we had to wait just over an hr for our food which was a bit of a let down. Not sure if it was a staffing issue or size of kitchen issue, but food more than made up for it hence the 5 stars. Will be back to eat different menu items.

We wanted somewhere special to celebrate my husbands 60th with our family and we were not disappointed. The meal was divine right down to the dessert. The night was lovely so the windows were open and as for the view, it was a beautiful and tranquil setting. Thanks everyone for the special wishes and memories đŸ˜ŒđŸ„°

Fantastic service, food and views. Matilda Bay Restaurant never fails to deliver consistent quality every time! One of my top five favourite places to have dinner in Perth! Spectacular views too. Cray on the Bay special is amazing and all the seafood and other dishes are always so fresh and unique!

The view of Matilda Bay is serene and beautiful. We came to celebrate our anniversary, the staff are friendly and nice. We ordered crispy pork belly which was very delicious and well, crispy. I got the angus beef which was alright, nothing too special about it, and my wife got the duck leg. We were surprised about the duck leg as they served two pcs, we were expecting only one, and it was savoury, just a little too salty with the sauce but the veggies balanced it out. Finally, we got the peach with caramel icecream for dessert which was a delight, the warm and cold combination was pleasant. We were very full at the end. Overall a very nice experience.

We had an amazing day here yesterday! We had birthday lunch and spend relaxing walking around the restaurant. Staffs were friendly and professional. The vibe was just stunning! Food was delicious! Drinks were great and cheap for all you can drink. We want to come back here for a special occasion again. Thank you so much for making our special day even more special.

Our wedding at Matilda Bay (Catalina room) was amazing. The river setting was beautiful for our ceremony and photos. The food and cocktails were delicious! Most importantly Sianne and the team were incredible - they were so fun, organised, patient and made sure everything ran smoothly on the night (including a last minute marquee due to rain) Thank you so much!

We had a fantastic night at Matilda Bay Restaurant; the staff is extremely professional and friendly, and the food is delicious; highly recommended👍

Went on a Sunday with my family of 4 to try Cray on the bay deal. Fantastic food, service, view and ambience. Been there few times and never disappoint. We’ll definitely go again. Keep up the good work guys👍

Matilda Bay Restaurant is right on the Swan River. It’s a popular area for families with many people jogging, walking dogs and picnicking in the vicinity. The view from the restaurant is lovely – yachts and ducks, with King’s Park and Mounts Bay Road as a backdrop. The thing that immediately struck me was that the service was haphazard. The waitress showed us to our table, only to decide that it wasn’t as expected, and ushered us to an alternative table. We then waited for 20 minutes before being offered a drink. I chose a mocktail (I chose the only one that was compatible with my food intolerances), and my companion chose a mocktail too, explaining that we would not be drinking alcohol. The drinks were nice and well-presented, but the waiter insisted on trying to sell us some wine despite our earlier conversation about not drinking alcohol.

If you want dine with a view, this could be your choice. Foods however could be better and more unique for such fancy place.

We just had our wedding at Matilda Bay and it was amazing. Impeccable friendly/accommodating service and delicious food and wine/champagne. The salmon entree was devine. Our guests also raved about how amazing the food and service was. Highly highly recommend Matilda Bay Restaurant.

With shiny new venues grabbing the Perth dining scene limelight, I want to show an old favourite some love. For me, Matilda Bay restaurant has been the setting of many a celebratory meal over the decades. Matilda Bay is one of just a handful of big name, dare I say “old school”, restaurants that remain in Perth. Here, fine dining is served up in a relaxed atmosphere. But premium food comes at a premium price.

A wonderful restaurant. I had the seafood pasta and it was absolutely delicious. Can't remember the name of the dessert but it was also very tasty. The wine list is extensive but I don't drink. The staff and the service they provided was good

We have been to the Matilda Bay Resturant many times and it just keeps getting better.<br/><br/>Went with a large group yet service was quick and all meals were of exceptional standard.<br/><br/>Featuring many local ingredients. Staff were very friendly and efficient.<br/><br/>Absolutely recommended, particularly if you have out of town guests as the view through the yachts is amazing.
Food Mania
Staff and service are good. We ordered scallop as entree. Main is ribeye. My hubby and I ordered same thing. But my ribeye is not medium rare. I asked waitress it is over cooked. the ribeye is medium. I cannot see any red color at all. The waitress told me ribeye is a bit white meat and it should be like that. Luckily, my hubby ribeye cooks medium rare. We shows the waitress. Then she said she will change for me. I thought waitress should know their foods well. When my replace ribeye came, it was burnt and black outside. It is not cooked at the meat near the bone area. We informed to waiter and he said he will told the kitchen. Then we ordered Creme brĂ»lĂ©e’s and coconut cheesecake. Dessert are nice. Overall, it is alright. It is very noisy when it gets into last night.

Not talking about the food or services because both are AMAZING . but talking about the BIG BOSS or the OWNER OF THE RESTAURANT not sure what his position but the way the he was dealing with us was not respectful it was disappointing ... the reason cause my baby cried so he asked us to take her OUT & he kept looking at us keep pointing on us .. I was on shocked it was my birthday night & he turns it to nightmares... not advice anyone to go there if you have kid cause he will kick you out from the restaurant ..<br/><br/>

Been here twice with family and friends. Loved it every time. The food and service is great. I love the atmosphere and the view. Will definitely be bringing my partner here.

Went to Matilda Bay to celebrate 4 years in our business venture. Best choice we ever made (besides going into business together) the food was fantastic and from arrival to departure the service was outstanding. Special thanks to Madeline and our other amazing waiter (I wish we got his name too) for being so friendly, welcoming and efficient. The little anniversary brownie was a sweet touch. We have decided this needs to be, at the very least, an annual event.

Have frequented this restaurant about 3 times now. This is a lovely place to dine at. Try to make a booking and ask for a window seat right next to Matilda Bay. Food is pretty good.

Food was average at best. I’ve always loved this place but our meals this time were very acidic and not tasty. Sad to say I will no longer be returning.

I had my sister’s wedding here, everything was lovely and food was amazing. But the second time I came here, the service is very disappointed!!! I’ve waited half an hour to let waiter came to clean the table when I finished entree. Entree, main, dessert took me like 3 hours! Btw the food here is average now. Never come back again

besides the view this place is shocking waitress there was very stand offish when askes to take a picture of us for a special occasions had to call and wait for service food came out cold never again

Great views, attentive service and good food. My friend and I both got the 3 course set meal but we ordered different dishes so we could taste a variety! Started off with some bread and butter, then we had the pork belly and mushroom tart with halloumi as entrees. The pork belly was absolutely delicious and fatty and the mushroom tart was so creamy. Mains were the barramundi fillet and beef fillet along with some salad. Both were really juicy and tender! Finishing off with some awesome desserts, we had the crepe brûlée and salted caramel and chocolate cake. Highly recommend this place for a special occasion

Went here for dinner, weather was nice so it was very pleasant with the open windows and the view was great next to the river<br/>Food came out decently paced, steak was alright, slightly overpriced i would say<br/>The salads we got were great, chips were average <br/>There was only one server on so we had to ask for a dessert menu 3 times and the bill twice... we didnt mind waiting as we were chatting but if it were just me and my partner id get annoyed
Zanno 61
Steak at $110 for two was terrible way too salty everything else ok.<br/>Service and view excellent what more can we say.<br/>This is all we want to say.<br/>
Greg
Great food, service and views! Every dish was cooked to perfection. The waitresses could not be more attentive...the pork belly was amazing...great day and atmosphere KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!

Came here for lunch with a massive group. They were soo accomodating to all our fussy orders. The waitress- Kim I think was just superb. Soo friendly and down to earth really made the lunch enjoyable. Shame I didn't get a snap of the mains- we just demolished it all. Soo great and in the entertainment book also. Def recommend.

Was really grateful to be taken out to Matilda Bay for a special family event. Overall enjoyed the restaurant however besides the view it doesn't really rock your socks off for the price you pay.<br/><br/>FOOD:<br/>The 4 of us each ordered off the set winter menu ($78 pp).<br/>I ordered the pork belly, steak & chocolate mousse on hedgehog slice.<br/>Entree:<br/>All entrees (pork belly, mushroom tart & salmon) were delicious and a pretty big portion for an entree.<br/>Main:<br/>Asked for my steak to be medium rare. It came out a bit more cooked than desired. Was quite tough and rubbery which was disappointing. The dish had nice flavours but I wouldn't recommend it.<br/>Dessert:<br/>We all ordered the same dessert, which was delicious! Really liked the chocolate mousse.<br/><br/>VIEW & SERVICE<br/>The view is wonderful. Highly recommend booking a table by a window in time for the sunset. Service was good. Staff were attentive and well mannered.
PerthfectBreakfast
Visited on a Friday night for the winter special: $65 for a 3 course meal with a glass of wine. $15 surcharge for grill items, $38 for the seafood platter. Entree I chose the panko crumbed prawns with paprika mayonnaise, chickpeas and pickled red onion. There was about 1000 calories worth of mayo sitting in the bowl and 6 big crumbed prawns. There was way too much crumb on the prawns. My other friends chose the gnocchi with braised lamb and peas and they seemed to enjoy it.<br/><br/>I opted for the 400g rib eye as my main with the $15 surcharge. It didn't come with anything but sauce so I got a side of hand cut chips for $10 too. I asked for medium rare but it was more like medium well on the outer edges, medium in the middle and medium rare close to the bone. The mushroom sauce didn't even taste like mushroom and the steak was soooo salty. My friend who got the duck tagine main enjoyed hers as did the other who chose barramundi.<br/><br/>Dessert 3 of us went for the banana salted caramel Mille fueille. AMAZING. Flakiest puff pastry! Would eat again/10 and the only component of my meal I enjoyed. <br/><br/>Overall I would give the food 2.5/3 but I'm kicking it up to a 3 for the amazing dessert, attentive service and my little birthday treat.

If your a looking for an amazing seafood platter and money isn't an issue then this is the place for you! So romantic for a date night also. Quite setting withy a great wine list.

I was lucky enough to be taken here for my birthday & it was just lovely!<br/>A prawn starter (delish), lamb (perfectly cooked) with royal blue mashed potato (don't often see that variety in WA & I'm a fan) & creme brûlée to finish (a-mazing!)<br/>The service was great, the view is so pretty. Really can't recommend it enough for a special night

My wife and I have been here many times and it never disappoints. The steaks are always cooked to perfection, portions are massive and the service is impeccable. A special thank you to our waitress Suzzanna for giving us the 'European style service' that we miss, something that is very rare in Perth! Would definitely go back!
Dan
Possibly the worst meal that I have ever had, I would have rated lower than 1 if I could. 5 years ago we got married here and came back for our 1 year anniversary, both of which were good experiences. But last weekend we came back for our 5 year wedding anniversary, and left severely disappointed. I ordered the steak which was cooked well, but couldn't eat it as I had to cut out 3 large scallop sized pieces of fat. I used to be a butcher and would NEVER have sold a piece of meat to a customer like this, especially for $55 per steak! Not only the steak, but I ordered the asparagus as a side and it was stringy and chewy. I left all of it on my plate. I hate to waste food but I left half a steak, all of the fat, and all of the sides on my plate. My wife had crab pasta which she also left half on her plate. We didn't complain as we were never even asked how our meal was. So here is our complaint. I probably could have had a better steak from Sizzler.

Lovely location/views, and very pleasant interior. In three or four visits, the food has been consistently solid, not brilliant or interesting. I've experienced good service in the past but most recently (last night), the service was at times kinda terrible, especially for a restaurant pitching itself at this level/price point. I cannot say it much better than Avalucanus did in their review below. Perhaps the manager is indeed the problem - often the culture of a team is defined from the top.
Avalucanus
Great view and average food. The service is appalling! The Manager and all staff (except one young lady Kim who was brilliant) were disinterested, insincere and condescending. For the prices they charge I was stunned with their attitudes. It could be improved greatly if the Manager is replaced by one who actually cares. A small issue was handled abominably and they've lost me for good. Some basic training in problem solving, customer care and empathy would go down well.
The Ponder Room
Matilda Bay has always been one of those go to restaurants for a special occasion. My most recent experience suggests this is still the case. To start with there’s the view, no wonder so many brides decide to get married on the lawn next to the restaurant. It also serves as an added bonus should your date turn out to be short on conversation. Day or night it is spectacular.
Billylamb
Prawn starter came with 4 prawns with crispy chickpeas. Nice contrasting textures. We both got steaks for mains. I really enjoyed the angus beef fillet which was nicely crusted on the outside and tender on the inside. The mushroom sauce wasn't your typical creamy sauce. It was mushrooms in a nice almost mushroom stock. Not the cheapest meal but a bit more affordable with the entertainment book 25% off. View is amazing of course!!

This is a post from my work Christmas dinner. Yes, a whole two months ago! I have no excuse of why I'm uploading this post so long after the actual dinner, but it was a memorable dinner so it felt like it was just yesterday! This year (I mean last year) the big boss was very generous and took us all to Matilda Bay Restaurant for our Christmas function. It was indeed memorable because of the food and more so because Santa Claus actually made an appearance! Good things happen in Matilda Bay!

Always one of my favourite places to take clients. Food never disappoints and the service is excellent.<br/>I usually get steak here as it is a great portion and always top quality. Desserts are amazing as well.<br/>Definitely worth a look.

We went to Matilda Bay Restaurant over the Christmas break and had a lovely meal there. The staff are professional and friendly. The food was delicious with excellent presentation.  I had a deliciously satisfying steak and the fish looked great too.  If you can get a table with a view of the river nearing dusk, I would say it is probably the best restaurant table view in Perth.  Great food, service and location. Excellent.

Again celebrating Madam Rabbit's birthday, Madam Rabbit, the Walking Inheritance and I fancy-pants it up at Matilda Bay Restaurant.  . I had the cured kingfish and found it to be a bit of a let down.  The grapefruit was too overwhelming and all of the other flavours were blown away.

Still loving this place after 2 years since last visit. We had Christmas dinner last night. Food was great. <br/>More than 10 of us, we were given the space in the corner where there's a sliding door to make our space like in the function room.<br/>Entree we had crispy pressed boneless pork hock, maple smoked bacon, 5 spice caramel, papaya. Very unique taste, well balance of savory, sweet and spicy. Hubby had grilled harissa prawns, Moroccan whipped sweet potato, chickpea, pickled onion salad. He said it was divine! <br/>Main I had grilled snapper fillet, cauliflower puree, roasted beets, smoked almonds, caper berries, chorizo. Not too bad though I was hoping the snapper portion can be a little bigger. Hubby had black Angus beef fillet, potato, kale gnocchi, caramelised red onion, harissa herb butter. It was alright to be honest, was actually expecting more gravy though. <br/>Dessert I had mango coconut semifreddo, macadamia toffee, lime infused syrup. Yumm the semifreddo! Love every element in it. Hubby had steamed treacle pudding, buttered rum sauce, fruit mince, spiced macaron. Again, very special blend of spiced pudding. But not really our preference.

just had dinner here tonight and fantastic experience! got 2x set menu for $85 each (entree+main+dessert, bread and salad included) so decent value. pork belly A++, squid B+, steak A+, chicken A+, chocolate parfait A, banana pavlova A+. food was so good! (but very rich) very generous servings. we got served by this quite petite young lady with blonde hair and glasses - if you're reading this thanks so much for making our night so enjoyable! possibly the nicest service i've had in Perth. i am happy now =D

Came here for a matched wine dinner one night. It wasn't great. The food struck me as something straight out of the late 80s/early 90s. Which is fine if you're 70, as most of the punters were. Perfect if you want a trip back to 30 years ago.

Came for a special dinner. Service was very good. Despite being a busy Friday night the chef was happy to make bernaise sauce for me (it was not an option on the menu). The steaks were also delicious and well cooked. Only thing I could fault was the entree squid was a bit average, the crumb overpowered any taste of the seafood. Would come back again for the steak.

friendly and attentive services. beautiful restaurant with view of the river and city.....delicious foods the steaks we ordered are tender, juicy and mouth watering

Myself and my husband and two friends had a great night on sat 13th August , the food , ambience and drinks was just beautiful and a special mention must go to our waitress Kim she was fantastic from start to finish and so pleasant and friendly , she asked if we where celebrating when we said we where she brought us out special deserts this was a fantastic touch! Well done and thank you Kim

You can always have a great meal here. You don't even know the staff are around. Plates just appear and disappear perfectly. A great night was had by all at our table of 6 petiole. Thanks Matilda Bay

It was end of hubby's teaching term and the start of our 3 month break from work. The celebration at the restaurant did not disappoint. We sat facing the tranquil water and looked at the beautiful sunset. We decided to go with the $85 set menu and thoroughly enjoyed the food.

Stopped for a snack and a cup of tea on Sunday afternoon. First thing we noticed is the queue. People lined up outside the door, waiting for the single person taking orders and payment at the single register. Ok. Waitress was fake and pretentious, telling us we needed a table number before we could order anything. What? We're sitting outside. Ok then. Disappointed to discover they no longer do wedges and opted for a basket of chips instead ($9) plus coffee and tea. Everything came out sporadically: first a single flat white, then chips. Then another tea. A while later, more coffee. The chips had that frozen, thawed out and frozen again cardboard texture , and for $9 the serving was small. It's as if in order to pay for the renovations they've reduced the serving sizes accordingly. Factor in the dogs barking and yapping under every table, the screeching crows ripping into rubbish left on tables and the haughty staff-we won't be returning anytime soon. Pity. This used to be a nice place before . Half a point for the view. It was the only good thing about this place.

The girls and I had our monthly catch up dinner here last week. We chose the set menu (entree, main and dessert) for $85 and with the entertainment book we got 25% off!! Service was great, food was delicious as usual.

The restaurant has multiple hats - it's a popular and sought after reception centre and of course there's the long rectangular dining room overlooking the bay and moorings, which seems to be caught in a time warp. Which in itself is not an entirely unsatisfactory thing. . .<br/><br/>Entrees clustered around $28 and mains around $45, though the bovine offerings from the grill are priced in the mid 50s. The food is well executed - reasonable servings, well (not over) seasoned and some well known and comforting asian fusion flavours. <br/><br/>I enjoyed the fried szechuan pepper squid and the fried King George whiting fillets and fries were excellent. The duck confit was less convincing, limp. The sweets were playful and well presented, though the flavours and textures of the fried brioche (plate 5) did not meet the promise made to the eye. <br/><br/>A reasonably long wine list, short on interesting bottles. WA is well represented, but for a wino - no challenging or exciting bottles. The Dom Perignon and Krug are well priced - the Dom $250 - which is about $50 more than retail. The Krug was a vintage bottle, from memory $450.
Whereyoudratherbe
Dis-appointing & overpriced<br/><br/>On arrival we were greeted by two staff, squatting and  eating their dinner outside the entry and progressed passed the smokers pit to unavoidably select the second hand cigarette smoke from several others.<br/><br/>I wished that the eating staff out the front had greeted us as the front of house certainly didn't. So we waited.  And waited.<br/><br/>At seating the offer of sparkling or tap water was complicated.  They offer bottomless sparkling water for everyone for a fee per person but only a few wanted sparkling and wanted just to purchase a bottle or two - which you can't.<br/><br/>We selected a wine and half way through the first glass took a closer look -  right grape variety, wrong bottle.......yes I should have a closer look, it was the right grape and the label was complicated - but really .....<br/><br/>The menu was inspiring.  Some of the group had problems finding anything motivating and put off by the reception by the staff.  The mains range from ~$35 to $65 and typically in the mid range.  The wine list has 2 levels ~$65 and ~$130.  The wine was ok but not good.  The kids menu was short but good value.<br/><br/>The table staff tried hard, I wished he got the wine right.<br/><br/>We had wanted to bring our own wine for what was a milestone birthday dinner. It was a very special wine - I would have paid a fee to compensate the loss and revenue from the $65 bottle of $15 wine and tipped handsomely.  They refused a sizable missed tip opportunity for the staff.<br/><br/>The restaurant wasn't empty, wasn't full and lacked a buzz.  The view of the river and yacht club is quite nice particularly as its beautifully peaceful part of the river.<br/><br/>The duck was nice - so overall 1.5.<br/><br/>Disappointed.

FINALLY made it to Matilda Bay Restaurant. It's great to see a place with such amazing views not take advantage of customers with high prices and bad food. That's not to say prices weren't high. Very rarely is a dessert worth $18 and it wasn't here. They were both yummy (the trifle refreshing and the creme bruleé light) but by Perth prices worth $14 max. I won't knock the $39 cray fish though, absolutely divine though tougher than I expected. Service wise, these guys must have been under the pump. We had to ask for more water and we had to call (not hail - couldn't get anyone's attention even waving arms) someone down to take our dessert order after waiting a good 20 mins. Service when we did revive it was polite, friendly and helpful. Lastly we received out dessert wines after we had finished our desserts. We were happy to see crunchy chips, although they more resembled dregs. The aioli they came with was really nice, you could taste the lemon. The cauliflower gratin was ok. I'd come back for the view and a special occasion but not in a great hurry.
THE ILLUSIVE FEMME
Attended a wedding here over the weekend. Firstly, what a gorgeous location. Such stunning views of the Swan River! We had a set menu but what a set menu it was. Entree was a Gnocci with tomato sauce and a mountain of cheese. The Gnocci was fresh and airy as it should be - the sauce was a little bland though. Almost tasted like canned tomato soup, ha! Mains was a Steak with Field Mushroom, Garlic Butter and a Potato Croquette. Steak was cooked beautifully, the garlic butter worked so well with the dish and the croquette was crisp and tasty. Really nice! Dessert was a Lemon Tart with berry and cream - quite standard but looked pretty. Some of the staff were extremely rude and off putting but others were nice. Good place for a function although the staff seemed a little disorganised at times.

Just had a 50th birthday party.... Food was amazing .... Staff very friendly and the location is to die for. loved it<br/>Prices are s little on the high side but overall I would highly recommend <br/>

Went here on New Year's Eve, Service is very friendly and welcoming however, it is a bit pricy for what you get. The choice of food is so limited and quantity of the food is so small. Did not walk out with a happy full stomach and I kept getting bitten by mosquitoes. Don't think I would go back.

Another favorite of mine delicious food, great service, a lovely view and friendly good service this is one of my top 5 in Perth never fails

Great view.....swan river and beautiful yachts! Good set lunch with reasonable price. Amazing service. Very peaceful place to come here for a good lunch + view = distress. Love it.

What an amazing experience. Food was outstanding and service was friendly. Went for the tasting night and the pork belly was the stand out dish for me. The views of perth made it a wonderful evening

Had my birthday dinner here on the 25th of January and it was spectacular.<br/>The venue was very well established. The staff was very friendly and understood what you need. The place itself was very beautiful and not very noisy which was great within a fine dining environment. <br/>For the entree, I had the seafood wontons which were amazing. Although the wontons looked a bit burnt, the filling inside was very tasty. The fried prawns were also delicious with the mayo sauce. <br/>For the main course, I had a go with the Barramundi fillet. It was beautifully cooked, with crispy skin and tender, soft fillet. However, the salad that came with it had a weird taste to me. I didn't enjoy the salad at all. <br/>For the dessert, I had the chocolate parfait. Very delicious and special. There's a lot texture within this dessert and everything just like melted in your mouth.<br/>I would like to thanks the whole Matilda Bay Restaurant team for making my birthday dinner so special. Thanks for the birthday dessert that was very lovely. I would recommend this restaurant to my friends and family. Definitely coming again soon.
Natasha
Lucky enough to have a working lunch at the gorgeous Matilda Bay. It would be hard to imagine one not enjoying a meal here when the view is so superb. <br/><br/>Obviously a well established venue, the staff are charming and know exactly what they're talking about. <br/><br/>Literally every mouthful is a delight to the tastebuds. Expensive yes, worth it definitely. Perfect for a special occasion dinner or lunch.
Cake Face
After searching for god knows how long for a nice menu that Creme Brûlée for dessert Matilda Bay was the destination for a 30th dinner.<br/><br/>There were great elements and not so good.<br/><br/>Ordered cocktails and bread to start and it took so long to come it came at same time as entrees. I kept having to chase things up and follow-up.<br/><br/>Mains were perfect and sides were tasty.<br/><br/>Dessert was disappointing though. Brûlée was awful and parfait was missing something extra. <br/><br/>Given the bill came to over $300 for 2 people while we enjoyed it I wouldn't rush back.

Dined at Matilda Bay on Saturday. The food was great. The Red Snapper was nice and fresh and the service was great. As is the location and view! Will definitely come again.
Annie
Fantastic venue fabulous food nice ambience with a fantastic view complimented with very attentive staff.<br/>Whole evening was faultless .....will certainly come back here again.

Came here for my sisters and boyfriends birthdays. In the reservation I stated it was 2 x people's birthdays and requested that "happy birthday" be written on the dessert plates for them. Also during our meal we were asked if it was a special occasion and we stated the reason we were there. When the dessert came out, no message on the plate. Also, the desserts were $18 each and not amazing or big servings. My boyfriends steak was medium and not medium rare as requested. My lamb was medium in some parts and medium well in others. Nice dinner, but nothing great.
PerthFoodieGirls
Earlier this year we had lunch here and it was amazing! From the service to the food and the view! Really recommend this place and everything that was put in front of us looked and tasted amazing!

One word. Faultless. <br/>Now I'm no food critic, so I'm sure the "professionals" would find something to pick on. I found nothing negative. <br/>Warm, friendly greeting on arrival for lunch. Immediate drink order and swift service on the first much needed beer. <br/>The menu was simple yet exciting. <br/>My entree of Green Rice Flake crusted tiger prawns was amazing. 4 large prawns seasoned perfectly. The green rice flake crust was pleasing to the eye and the crunch factor was certainly there. The prawns were large and cooked to perfection. <br/>It was possibly my most enjoyed entree ever. <br/>For the main dish I went for meat mate. The 28 day dry aged 300g sirloin sourced from Mardie station in the Pilbara was ordered medium well. It was excellent however I would have preferred the medium option. <br/>Again, perfectly seasoned and the red and green pepper sauce was the perfect partner. <br/>Our garden salads and the mash were better than the average standard side dish. <br/>I tasted my fellow diners beef cheeks with red wine jus and I must say, I will be ordering them next visit. <br/>We finished with a Noble One desert wine and the Creme Brûlée. <br/>Now one thing I am an expert in is brûlée. It. Was. Faultless. <br/>A perfect pairing with the noble one. <br/>All in all, Matilda Bay restaurant was a perfect dining experience in a beautiful setting on the bay. <br/>Will return. Sooner rather than later.

I attended on a Thursday night for a corporate event held upstairs. Firstly the views were amazing and location is idealic.<br/><br/>The food was fabulous and table setting was great however the reason for my 5 star was the service. I honestly have not had service at such a high level in Perth for a long long time! <br/><br/>Drinks were never empty, staff remembered exactly what you were drinking and never had to ask and were so friendly! Thank you Matilda Bay staff. for making the evening so memorable
PPFood
Been there for my girlfriend's birthday and I have to admit that everything was beautiful. The view, the food, the wine, the service.<br/><br/>Maybe the dessert portions could be little bigger but my girlfriend and I have left the restaurant happy and satisfied!

Beautiful food beautiful scenery. My partner and i celebrated our first anniversary tonight. being in the industry myself for over 12 years, im quick to find faults. It was an absolute pleasurable experience from start to finish. The wait staff are very knowlegable and attentive with out being anoying. Our table was overlooking the moonlite river and were lucky enough to see one dolphin at the end of our evening which we took as a good omen celebrating our first anniversary seeing as though dolphins usually travel in pods. A special end to a special night. The food was delightful and again being in the industry i am quick to fault but can not do so here. The prawn dish was the clear winner for me. Congradulations matilda bay on your well oiled machine

Been here several times and it is consistently good.  I had a steak and it was cooked to perfection.  The staff were polite and attentive as ever and all at our table were happy.  Matilda Bay has something for everyone on the menu and that something is usually a safe bet.

Modern cruisine, not a great selection but great quality and very flavoursome. Lovely location, and friendly service. The only downfall would be the food and drinks are incredibly expensive, and the servings are very small for what you pay. Walked out hungry.... happy.... but hungry. Would go back for a special occasion.

Been here a few times. Cuisine is modern, nothing delightful about the decor but the service scores a few brownies. The location is fantastic and its all about that? Your penny wise spent. "I'll be back"

Went to Matilda Bay Restaurant for lunch on Mother's Day and I've got to say the $95 pp 3 course set menu was amazing and divine. My parents and I just couldn't find any fault with the entrees and mains and the dessert buffet table was super heavenly. So many cakes, French pastries, biscuits, cheese platters to choose from and the best part was it was continuously being refilled. The red velvet and chocolate mudcake was a clear winner as it was really decadent, super moist and rich. In addition to the set menu, free flow drinks were offered for the entire 4 hours of the lunch sitting which was a positive bonus for those who simply like to drink and have a jolly of a good time on a special occasion. Overall, Mother's Day was spent my really well and the experience was enjoyable with mum loving every minute of being pampered with a wonderful lunch.

Absolutely love it! Favourite restaurant in Perth by far! Service, quality of food, extensive wine list and friendly, yet romantic atmosphere are exceptional

Went to Matilda Bay last night. Considering there location I was very disappointed. Service was very slow as including over 30 minutes to get simple flat white coffee which arrived cold. <br/><br/>All in all a let down

We had delicious stakes there. I was a bit disappointed that the rib which was the first dish on the menu wasn't available. The lady who served us was attentive and lovely. They played Nora Jones on loop but for some reason her vocal track wasn't audible within the dining section, so it sounded like a karaoke version for you to sing along. I just thought it was hilarious.

A Great New Start. Having very recently relocated my entire family from Melbourne to Perth for business, it's not been an easy task. As we are slowly but surely settling we finally found time to go out for our first family dining experience courtesy of my lovely work colleagues I left behind. <br/>The kids were excited and already chose what boat I was going to buy them when the manager told them if they were lucky they might see some dolphins! <br/>An incredible setting right on the river with incredible views of our new city. The meals were excellent, beef cheeks i'd never really tried before were mouth watering and a whole fish ( red emperor I think) was cooked just right. The kids were happy with the colouring packs they received and just about lost it when the waitress pointed out two dolphins cruising by close to shore.<br/>Not too familiar with WA wines we thoroughly enjoyed the Pierro Chardonnay from Margaret river and a couple of glasses of St Hallet Barossa Shiraz. If all our dining experiences in Perth are like this we will live happily ever after! We look forward to returning with the numerous family and friends that will visit us before long‹<br/>Raj

A Great End To Our Trip.... Whilst winding down with only a few days left in the beautiful city of Perth we chose Matilda Bay Restaurant to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary. Only a short Uber ride from our city hotel we fell in love with the location. After a short stroll along the reserve we arrived at the restaurant to welcoming smiles who suggested we enjoy a pre dinner drink in the lovely bar area. This was stunning as we captured perfect twilight and witnessed an array of colours in the sky as the city skyline lit up and we sipped champagne.<br/>On moving into the restaurant we had a beautiful table with magnificent river views and a European waitress who was friendly, knowledgeable and allowed us to enjoy our evening with great service. The set menu was great value for money with fillet steak cooked to perfection and my wife enjoyed the duck. Desserts were tasty and was made extra special by an additional plate with a chocolate Happy Anniversary message and little cake for us to share...a lovely touch.<br/>We were flying out late the following night but as the sun shone we decided to go back for a walk along the Matilda Bay reserve. The windows were open and it looked so perfect we couldn't help ourselves and decide to go and have a quick bite to eat!! Again excellent service and excellent value for money. We enjoyed a 2 course lunch special including a glass of house wine for only $48 per person.<br/>If we make it back to Australia we will definitely visit Matilda Bay again. <br/>Thank you<br/>Paul & Margaret

Flat and disappointing. Service was poor leaving us to pour our own wine all night , no interaction apart from here's your meal. Limited understanding of what made up the menu. Overpriced mains ($10 for a very small side dish of steamed beans broccollini and asparagus ) very ordinary steak<br/><br/>No plans for return visit this century

My family and I wanted to celebrate Chinese New Year somewhere but we weren't in the mood for Chinese food, so I suggested going to Matilda Bay Restaurant. This place has some nice views and ambience but definitely needs some mosquito repellent of some sort. The service was great but the food was pretty average. My favourite dish was the banana parfait .

Very nice. Went there for dinner last night and was extremely happy with the meal & service. We had the oysters and prawns for entree, the duck and barramundi for main and then had to try the desserts as everything was so good so had the brulee and cheesecake. Couldnt fault anything!<br/>Also came across the 'tipping' sequence with the eftpos machine as detailed by the last reviewer....... not a fan either!!!

Always good, never great. We treat ourselves to Sunday lunch at Matilda Bay Restaurant every 6 months or so,mainly for the ambience, which is like no other in Perth;the spectacular view of the river and the boats is a great way to relax and unwind after a busy week. The decor of the room is a bit dated now,but still works well enough, and manages to maintain an intimate atmosphere even when it's fully booked (as it usually seems to be).<br/>The food is good too,but never really more than good:you certainly wouldn't complain, but you wouldn't say"wow" either.Service varies from friendly to a bit brusque, but the staff are always professional, and certainly know their business.<br/>One jarring note on our recent visit: as I paid the bill and was handed the eftpos machine,I was told that an (unspecified) gratuity charge had been added automatically, and if I didn't wish to pay it,"please press the green button now"!.<br/>I don't know who's bright idea this is (we eat out regularly, and I've never encountered it before ),but it needs to be binned pronto.<br/>If I choose to tip the staff I will do so of my own choice, either by leaving cash or by VOLUNTEERING to have an amount added to my bill.I certainly won't authorise an unspecified additional charge, especially in such an offensive manner that seems to be trying to make me feel guilty or mean if I don't pay it.<br/>Not a good look guys..

Terrible Experience. Went there today with my partner and had a terrible time, got charged for two deserts when we only ordered one, and we were rushed out of the restaurant. After paying $140, I think i would rather eat absolutely anywhere else.<br/><br/>The view was nice, and the food was pretty good (although the portions were small) but being over charged and the quality of service will have me telling anyone who will listen not to go to this restaurant.

Best of the best. We went around Perth looking for a good restaurant for 2 years. As we have been working in Hospitality for ten years, we have never been satisfied.<br/>Now, we found the Best restaurant ever!<br/>The food was just amazing: the bresaola tasted as real Italian bresaola (nothing similar around), the wagyu steaks were tender as butter and cooked perfectly, the mash potatoes was not tasting just as butter plus potatoes as usual but as true natural mash potatoes and... God, the service was perfect. Our waitress, Natasha, has been so kind and nice as professional, she knew exactly how to serve, how to look after us and how to be nice without being "too much".<br/>Definitely to recommend and we will come back for sure.<br/>We paid the bill with a smile on the face and our engagement dinner won't be forgotten.<br/><br/>Thanks Natasha and thanks to the Chefs: amazing job.

...agreed to give the Matilda Bay Restaurant and Bar in Crawley a try. ...We were shown to a table looking out an open window to the river. The view was beautifu.... The oysters were fresh, plump and luscious...I chose the besaola. The thinly sliced air-dried beef was served with lemon dressed rocket, truffled honey hazelnuts and shaved pepper pecorino... I couldn't believe how much flavour this produced for what was relatively a simple dish. The combination of all the elements was stunning.

Valentines Day 2015 - Great Experience. Having booked Matilda Bay for Valentine's Day 2015, it was safe to say I expected a fair bit for the $185 per head set menu. However, what my partner and I received was exactly that. With a glowing review from the partner "best date night ever" what more could i ask for. Matilda Bay quite simply did everything right. The value was spot on, the service impeccable and the ambiance was terrific. In short, could not fault a thing. Great experience.

Amazing view, great food but..... <br/><br/>There's no doubt this restaurant offers one of the best views in Perth. <br/>And the quality of the food is outstanding. <br/>But I'm a bit over paying more than $40 for a main meal that's not very substantial in size. In fact, I'm over paying those prices - regardless of size. <br/>When there are so many new restaurants opening in Perth offering amazing tapas-style food, I think these older stalwarts need to be more competitive in what they're offering. Sure, they've got the million-dollar view but at the end of the day it's about the food. <br/>And to top it off, we found the wait staff to be pretty unfriendly (read snooty!). Again, if I'm paying those prices, I want to feel comfortable and welcome at the venue. Yes, they're working in a top-tier restaurant but that doesn't mean the patrons don't want <br/>a relaxed and happy vibe while eating and drinking. Or maybe it's just us?? <br/>Anyway, can't fault the quality of food, the location or wine at all but I do take exception to those prices and the attitude of the staff, which is enough to make me think twice about returning.

All class!. My favourite restaurant. Never disappoints. Exceptional wine and cocktail list. Beautiful food, and the service impeccable. Seafood incredible and cooked to perfection. Fell in love with the Banana churros - a must have.

No thanks. Ate here a few times first time was great in 2o12!! Ate here again and in my opnion hogs breath is much better. Potato mash was salty like crazy on a weekday after work n considering from what I recall 9.00 couldn't eat more then 4 spoons from a full entree. Waiter didn't even ask how our meal was to give us a chance to complain. Sorry but never again

Perth Diner. Superb food, great wine by the glass, beautiful view, what's not to love.<br/>It's worth paying a little more to get this sort of quality.

View is amazing. I don't mind paying for good food but the food was a little disappointing. For what you pay i excepted a lot more flavor and wow factor. Shame because I thought it would better.

Foodie. We had a lovely lunch here. Food ,wine and staff all fantastic.

Avoid At All Costs. My friends and I had a very disappointing lunch experience. The menu prices suggested the food was going to be excellent. It wasn’t. The best way I can describe it is “five-star prices, cafe quality”. I had the falafel starter (dry falafel, flavourless sauce) followed by the schnapper special (completely overcooked). The general consensus of the table was that the food was quite poor. “One note flavours,” observed one of my friends, “with no highlights.” I agreed. There was nothing that warranted sending back, but none of it was very good – certainly not what I’d call enjoyable, and certainly not of a standard I’d expect in the price range. We chose not to make a big deal about this. We are old university friends; we all live in different parts of Australia and generally only meet up a couple of times a year. We want those times to be fun, not unpleasant, not tainted by having to complain about food. We definitely won't be going back or recommending it to anyone.

Disappointing for visitors. I have never written a review before but feel compelled to write because after visiting this restaurant three times over three years it is disappointing that they haven't changed. As a 'special' venue with high prices it is the sort of place you take visitors for a chance to show off Perth. But despite the venue and the very good food the service is poor. There is an arrogance that they don't have to try. I have had to ask for menus each time we have visited and then ask for someone to take our order. Had to ask to remind them to bring things to the table and then today to bring the coffees we ordered half an hour ago. They clearly don't staff the place for the numbers they book, but then there always seem to people doing nothing when you go looking for them. I won't try again and hope there is somewhere better I can take international guests, so as to not be embarrassed again. (please advise?)
