Review Balti - Perth

Yuvraj singh
One of the better Indian restaurants I have been to since coming to Perth. Very authentic dishes and cooked to perfection, took me back to my college days in Delhi. Will definitely be back and try other dishes. Good ambiance and friendly service kept topping up the water glasses too during our meal which is rare these days.

This restaurant is the real deal! We ordered both meat and vegetarian dishes with a variety of sides and I can honestly say it is one of the best Indian meals I have ever had. The naan breads are a must!! Thanks for the best experience!! We will definitely be coming back to this restaurant and will be spreading the word!!

Neat Indian restaurant. I was happy with their customer service. Food could have been a bit more spicier but tasted good overall. Food was delivered promptly and a good ambience overall.

Was looking for an authentic and highly rated indian restaurant to have my cravings for indian cuisine fixed and i chanced upon Balti on Google. Decided to come here based on the reviews and it did not disappoint! Their food is so flavourful, service staff was great, and the portions were generous. The garlic naan that we had was so fluffy even when its cold, appreciate that it was savoury instead of tasting bland with a hint of garlic. I look forward to coming back here again the next time I visit Perth :)

Best North Indian restaurant in Perth . Excellent location, if you're driving parking is a bit of a problem but after 6pm there's plenty of free street parking. We had the butter chicken, lamb korma, Mutton Biryani , garlic cheese naan and 3 indian sweets , butter chicken was rich cream and the grave was mouth watering , I'm still drulling

The most amazing restaurant ever visited and the most respectful owner of an Indian business ever met in Australia. Been to three different states and cities in Australia, this one was really special. For last few days we were missing our home and food a lot, but after visiting this place, we feel like we had a short trip to India! Food is awesome, owner is super respectful and sets up the bar high for other Indian restaurants in Perth. He gave us the perfect combo of Indian food and lovely warm reception, which lacks in other Indian restaurants and businesses! Being natural, true and not faking things (like other hospitality businesses) is probably getting him all the customers! All the best!

Dined at Balti tonight with some friends. Amazing authentic Indian food. The Samosa Chaat was delicious and the Balti special Paneer curry was to die for… unanimously it was the highlight of the meal. The service was good even though the restaurant was packed on a Tuesday night. We will be surely coming back. Visited Balti again tonight with family for another absolutely fantastic meal.

**This review is based on food only as takeaway is the only available option at this time with the pandemic**
Ordered the butter chicken (tasty), yellow lentils with spinach (very good), garlic naan (good) and saffron jeera rice. Dishes were all flavourful, good quality ingredients and reasonably priced. Complimentary pappadums were a nice touch. Would recommend if you’re looking for good Indian takeaway.

Beautiful food. Everything amazingly good and service great. Starters were both really large servings. We shared everything and only had 1 naan and 1 steamed rice between 2 and that was still more than we needed. In Entertainment Book so excellent value. Plenty of vegetarian options.

Food wasn’t cooked properly and rude staff😖😖

Entrée:

Paneer Tikka: Loved the paneer tikka but an odd number of pieces to serve

Aloo Tikki Chat: Average but overpriced
Chilli Chips: Right up our alley. Tasted really good

Mains:

Tarka Dhal: Our favourite curry served at this restaurant, one can never go wrong with this dish

Bindi Masala: Loved it! One of the best dishes served here
Baingan Bharta: Loved it!

Breads/ Rice:

Butter Naan: Loved it! One of the best Naans in Perth(B)
Steamed Basmati: Loved it! (M &B)

Pros:

- As it is an Indian restaurant, there are many vegetarian options to choose from.

- Some of the classic curries are made very well here like their Tarka Dhal, Baingan Bharta and Bhindi Masala and it is definitely one of the better restaurants we have been to.

Cons:

- It is in the city so parking is a problem. If you go here on weekdays you may not have as much trouble but, on the weekends, parking is a pain.

- The menu at the Indian restaurants gets boring as it is the same in every Indian restaurant so, there isn’t anything special served here that is not served elsewhere.

- The entrees are overpriced and the quantity is small.

My review comes in at a belated hour, however this place brings back some really good memories now that i think about it. Balti is a well known restaurant in Perth. Now i don't normally try a lot of Indian food outside India since it tends to be pretty bland but let me tell you that Indian food in Australia, atleast whatever I ate in Perth and Cairns was pretty much at par with what would you'd get here, back home in terms of the spices and flavors.

We started off with some apps being the Lahsooni Murg Tikka & Seekh Kebab coupled with Chicken Tikka Masala and Garlic Naans for the mains and a few Cocktails. Attentive staff and service ensured that the food was served hot and on time. The flavors simply made me smile. From the marination of the tikkas to the spices in the curry, everything was spot on and so were the breads. Thankfully there were no compromises of any sort.

A tad on the pricier side perhaps, but then again eating out in Australia does tend to get kind of pricey (maybe i was sub-consciously doing the whole conversion thing).

All in all a wonderful place!

Dear Balti, I loved your paneer curry and butter naan and if you did have mango lassi I would have taken it and I liked your paneer tikka. I also love the place you chose it is beautiful than the places I go for dinner with my mum and dad I wish I could stay here and eat all the paneer curry, butter naan, paneer tikka and mango lassi.
Your Dear friend
Aavani(I am 8 years old)

My wife and I decided to have an Indian Fix during our 4 day trip to Perth. After a bit of research we picked Balti.
We were not disappointed.
Fantastic onion bhaji and samosas starters followed by Red emporer steamed in banana leaf and lamb Rogan Josh.
We followed it up with a nice little ice cream.

All really nice fresh dishes and some welcome little differences from the norm.
Will definitely visit again next time we are in town

Had a very enjoyable meal at the Balti during a recent trip to Perth. It was quite busy and while my colleague and I were 'walk-ins', a table was quickly and efficiently found for us. The ambiance was good and the service impeccable. We'd been eating conference food all day so skipped entrees and just shared a couple of mains: the fish curry and the okra dish. They were both delicious - we thought the spice/chili levels just right. The place is a little more upmarket than your typical suburban Indian, so prices are perhaps a little dearer than usual but not by a significant amount. I would very happily return next time I'm in Perth.

Balti was highly recommended by our business associate and walked in there with a fair bit of expectation, we ordered the Tandoori Platter, Goat Curry & Chicken Chettinad. The tandoori salmon was excellent but the rest of the food did not live upto expectation.

Very well done up restaurant though

We tend to avoid Indian food on holiday travel, except for the one off meal when we are extremely homesick (home-food sick, rather). did some research and realized there was this gem within walking distance from our airbnb. we had a lovely evening. excellent mutton and lovely chaat. even the curries were very rich. close to the best indian food i've had outside india. we loved it so much that we went back for lunch the next day! i saw that it was quite popular with the locals too.

I went here a couple weeks ago and had a delicious Thali. We decided to return today and ended up ordering exactly the same meals. We were a tad disappointed, the food was alright but the staff made us feel like an inconvenience. Big filling portion but as expected for the price.

Yes, the smiling faces who welcome followed by optimum spiced food. What a wonderful experience. Love it. Would really recommend to visit. Well done. My order was vegetarian, Dal Makhani and Paneer Masala, both items rocked.
Treesaregreen
One of the best Indian restaurants in Perth! My favourite is the chicken meal that comes with butter chicken and tandoori chicken - it's so flavourful and tender - it's a real delight to eat. My colleagues love the Balti Thali lunch special which has a little bit of evrything to try. I also occasionally get the lamb kathi roll which has a nice spice to it.

Stumbled over this restaurant whilst walking and taking in Perth cbd, loved it food was sensational really glad we came in, if you like Indian food your in for a treat good and varied menu, with a large drinks menu as well

Definately a must try....every one serving was very polite. Loved the tandoori tasting plate. Salmon was cooked perfectly. The fish fry was super. Butter chicken tasted yum. Not to forget the piatachio kulfi and super gajar ka halwa that was not too sweet. Amazing place...a bit dark though as i love bright dining area....overall...a must try....

Without a doubt, my favourite Indian restaurant in Perth currently. Sensational malai kofta and palak paneer. The koftas in particular were perfectly cooked. Beautifully balanced flavours. I have had the Dahl many times, and though always good it is inconsistent- sometimes fiery, sometimes mild. This time had the perfect amount of spice but more beans than lentils which detracted from the flavour. The service was friendly and efficient as always. Highly recommended.

Ventured here on a Saturday night My partner rated this place however I was sceptical but was I wrong. Service from the beginning was exceptional the older man who may have been the manager was passionate about the food and the restaurant and catered to our love of spices by offering to add extra chilli to milder dishes . We ordered a range of dishes all of which were fresh and tasty . For entree we had the Onion Bahji which was nicely spiced not our favourite of night as it was a little doughy in inside and the Samosa Chaat which was unexpectedly tasty and well presented the combinations of yoghurt and crunchy samosa was sensational. For main we ordered the Goat curry which was a welcome change from the usual lamb or beef and a must has dish the aroma of spices although not as hot as we expected but tender meat melted in your mouth. The Chicken saffron/almond usual a mild dish however the chef catered for our love of spice did we get spicy this dish was a party in your mouth and the chicken was extremely tender
and succulent. The Chilli Naan was the best I've had they didn't hold back on the spices which mixed with the curries was Devine. We finished with the carrot pudding and pistachio ice cream I personally didn't enjoy the ice cream however my partner enjoyed the flavour and creamy texture.Although a little costly for Indian you defiantly get what you pay for and we will be back this is our new favourite Indian in Perth.
MD
Ordered veg curry - couldn't actually eat it as it was extremely spicy and didn't taste good either. I requested extra meat with it but the server said no (? Not sure why as I was willing to pay extra?) Maybe the restaurant should specify how spicy their curries are, lots of other Indian places do!
Food Lover
On a weekend morning wanted to try their chat specials. The papadums were stale, surely from the previous day. Harabara kebab was fried almost brownish black. Channa batura was horrible. The batura was so thick and stiff. Went to the place after hearing good reviews about weekend special but was terribly disappointed

I am well versed in Indian Cuisine. The owner has such pride in his food, it is outstanding. If you are looking for Westernized, dulled down Indian food, this isn't the place for you. The food is rich in flavour, spicy thrills of the palate! I have seen Celebrities dining in on occasion. It is one of the top Indian restaurants in Perth. The staff are attentive and it is reasonably priced.

Conveniently located at the heart of Perth CBD, Balti boasts of authentic North Indian cuisine at affordable prices. Make sure your ask for the spicy version if you are interested in real desi fare . Bollywood music being played in the background adds to the ambience. If you are looking to try out Indian dishes, the weekend lunch menu would be a good way to start.

Great place and great food. I will be back to try something new. I really wanted more drinks options, but I was fine with just water. Good staff as well!

Visited this restaurant just over a week ago (Friday night). Had the most amazing meal and best customer service. Staff were very friendly. We have tried many Indian restaurants in Perth and this is the best so far! The food was very flavoursome. There was a delay with one of our main dishes but was rectified within minutes of letting the waiter know. Staff were very attentive and as we were leaving they presented us with 2 free desserts to apologise for the slight delay! Will definitely be back for sure 😃

We came here for a late night curry after the cricket
The host was great. He new his stuff about curry. He was engaging
The currys although a little hot was really tasty.
I will go back
Anu
Horrible restaurant I have ever been to..v.rude service our food was taken away even before I could finish..looked like they were in a hurry to make us leave..food was made too salty the price paid for the food not worth.
Ami
Consistently fantastic Indian food. Had tandoori chicken recently, made to perfection, best tandoori in Perth, appropriately spicy and the mint chutney tasted homemade and was actually spicy, not creamy like so many places in Perth! I was instantly transported to India, tandoori would stand up well to many tandoori restaurants in India. Chicken chettinad also great.
Amarji
The food is tasty, but we did not feel welcome. First off, the waitress blurted "just tapwater for you?" and twirled off before asking what else we'd like to drink - giving the impression we're too young/poor to order any "real" drinks anyway (we spent $90, including two glasses of wine). The water jug is not even left at the table, we had to keep asking for refills. Not very attentive.

We had the coconut lamb, mint-coriander-fish (steamed in banana leaf), garlic naan and rice. It was a hassle to get the rice - the waitress pushed for us to buy more, because one cup is too small, even though we well knew there's always too much when you order two cups.

The food was delicious, but not that far above our local IGA's Indian deli, $11/enough to share between two. I'm not sure why pay ten times more to be treated like second class citizens? Sorry but not impressed.
Jackie
We had a really nice lamb curry here on a rainy night in Perth, not too spicy but authentic. Shame about the service. Staff didn't seem overly interested in serving us.
Rohan
Decent Indian food option in Perth Cbt... Malai kofta and okra was tasty and fresh... Paneer apetizer was hard and not catering to my taste buds... Onion bhaji were more like huge onion balls but very dry.. Again average... Courteous staff .. nice ambience ..

Last minute decision before a concert. Awesome service with time restraint in mind. Lovely food and friendly staff. A good range of dishes. Spicy means spicy and thats a good thing

Don't know the reason, but everytime I visit Perth I seem to seek out Indian food. Maybe the English appeal of the place (not to forget Indian food in blighty is number one!! even versus fish & chips) Anyway I loved this one & the fact they actually did an okra curry which is so hard to find in Brissy. It was beautifully prepared with just the perfect blend of spices & heat.
J-in-Perth
I would have liked to see a wider range of milder dishes, but the service was good & my spice-living friends enjoyed the hotter dishes. I liked the decor, too
Akanksha Baswant
I was welcomed to the restaurant with a wide smile. although the decor is pretty good, the food is not great compared to that. I was offered water and the lady suggested me some dish according to the appetite I was looking for.
the popadums served with compliments created an illusion of good service and good food but I was highly disappointed with the amount of spice added in the lamb. the chilly powder added on top which I could taste was not cooked properly and was barely edible. I had to ask for a raita on the side.
Naan was super buttery and not fresh as it was difficult to break or chew. alcohol cost you more than it is supposed to be. overall a disappointing standard of food.
Sybarite
Tasty food, good service, authentic modern Indian restaurant, clean, what more could you want. With only the location preventing me from coming back, enjoyed a selection of tasty mains, my usual garlic naan and a mango lassi. Not the best mango lassi I've had but not the worst.
Queen Charlene
Goat curry was really nice.
Kalpesh Naran
Food was average, staff not friendly and we ate food even after asking the Aircon to be turned down and it was switched back on high in under 10 mins.
Kamini Naran
Although the restaurant is beautiful decor wise the food and service were nothing amazing. Service sucked big time. After asking for them to turn the aircons down which they did for all of 10 minutes only to turn it back on. I ate cold food which was not great. Waiter was ok but manager looked like he had problems. We also did not get papadums the other tables did. Come to south Africa and see good service is my only advice.
LittleGirlBigFood
Good Indian food. Balti is well priced and the food is good. I will return for takeaway purposes.

Great meals twice while I was there . Definetly would go back. These guys are the real deal, I had lamb and spinach and aloo chat in one sitting and then palak paneer and onion bhuajas another. They were beautiful.. The Lassi were to die for , lovely and thick and silky. Reminded me of home cooked stuff. Service was prompt and friendly I came with friends and as a lone diner and they were very attentive and chatty both times. Do try these guys out. They are well located across from the Duxton , if you want an authentic experience come to Balti.
Alius
Despite the lovely ambiance, including the colourful decor and soft music, this restaurant was a soreful disappointment. The papadums promised great delights to come, as they were tasty but not excessively oily as some papadums sometimes fall prey. I ordered the Lamb With Spinach and rice. The main dish was entirely too spicy, it was barely edible. I had to ask for a side of raita but this did nothing and the raita itself was not memorable. Aside from the excess heat, the flavours of the main were unbecoming. The dish smelled and tasted somewhat burned and the spices were overwhelming with no redeeming features. This is a pity as the lamb, what little I could stomach, was softly cooked.

The service left a lot to be desired. Two waiters looked right at me and walked past without greeting me at the entrance, where a sign asked me to wait to be seated. There was a lack of attention even after I noted that the meal was too spicy and difficult to eat.

The garlic naan was nice, but nothing special, though it was a very bright yellow colour which seemed strange. The rice was plain, as ordered, but again not especially appetising.

The entire affair was woefully over charged: $38 without drinks. This restaurant should be avoided by interstate travellers who are weary and simply need a good hearty meal.

We were staying the city and though we would give Balti a go. We booked and when we arrived the place was packed. We could see people were annoyed with the service. I recorded the time of everything that happened in anticipation of writing a painful review, but to my surprise the experience was excellent. Our orders and meals arrived in good order (15 minutes from order). The food was as expected. Tasty, fragrant and general what we expected. As it transpired, Balti was flooded by walking-ins wanting a meal right before an event at the concert hall, so perhaps a flood of people is not a good thing for them. We were the only booking they had.
MF
Enjoyable Indian meal with attentive service.
The entree specials were delicious. We had some different Indian food and the usual favorites.
Desserts were very sweet - even more so than usual Indian dessert.
Pooja Hoderkar
Pricey average Indian food.. Is what sums up my experience. We tried the onion bhaaji, which was ok (it had whole coriander seed, which i absolutely detest so might be a bit biased) for mains, we tried the garlic naan which was quite nice and crunchy along with papadum and paneer masala (cottage cheese masala) though the cottage cheese was soft the curry was like eating a can of tomato purée. The ambience had a 80s disco feel, service was prompt and friendly. Don't think I will be back though
Pierre
I'm contemplating how to begin.
The occasion was a thanksgiving dinner and the hosts were hospitable and generous and I'm very thankful. The environment was lively with a lot of background banter which reminded me of a typical food house in India. The food was exceedingly palatable but far from calling it delicious. The usual suspects Mr.Vindaloo & butter chicken were accompanied by Mrs.Lentil & okra which put a not so teary smile on our faces. The service could have been better but I guess it was busy and hence a compromise? In an austerity mode in Western Australia this place will be a punch rather than a pinch on your wallet.
Undecided, whether " I'll be back"
Mark Outram
Food was excellent both myself and my wife loved our food. Portions are good and prices are average.
Service needs some improvement but still definitely recommended.
Rockingdeep89
Ami. Very disappointed, seemed nice from the outside. Very poor service, no taste .uncook vegetable .ask for more food no chef .
Moon
Nothing special. I had a lamb vindaloo. The Vindaloo was way too salty and consequently overpowered any authentic flavour. It was also mild to medium in hotness. A vindaloo is meant to be firey hot!!! Overall I found my curry to lack that authentic Indian taste & quality and as such this place would probably only appeal to amateur Indian eaters. Admittedly I've only had the one dish, but next time I'm in Perth I'll be trying elsewhere.
Jarvo
This place is the overpriced McDonald's of indian. Shopping centre food court standard with a premium price tag. They have a captive city clientele with few alternatives which is why they can get away with it. Very small serves, and massive markups - rice for 2 people costing $8-9???, an absolute joke. A chicken vindaloo with 6 small pieces of chicken with about as much spice as a korma. Onion bhaji and samosa entrees were (after confirming with waiter) supposed to have four of each but conspicuously came out with three. I'd never eat here again and would certainly never recommend it. Could taste the Leggos or equivalent tomato paste in the cooking and the Keens curry powder. Head north of the river to ocean reef/currambine/clarkson of you want proper authentic made from scratch indian.

Service. Staff is very rude , no smile on face and was talking bit rude and pointing finger while serving...need to be bit friendly...

Good food, poor staff!. Recently visited here on a Sunday night for a birthday celebration. Good impressions at first and were swiftly seated to our table (stuck right at the back in the corner even though the restaurant was empty). We were settling in to read the menu when we were asked to place our order, I said we werent ready as we had just sat down. The waitress took off although didn't seem happy, approx. 30 seconds later another waiter appeared to take our order, again I advised we would like more time please. A third person approached us after 1 minute after that - again I asked for a few more minutes - it was obvious to me that we were in no rush and were happy to chit chat etc. Then when we were ready to order we had to flag the staff down.
Aside from the staff issues - they appear quite rude and abrupt and not really wanting to be there, the food we had (butter chicken and prawn spicy curry) was very nice. Prices are now cheap but for Perth CBD not too bad.
Personally I would be reluctant to return due to the poor attitude from staff but would consider take away as the food is tasty.

Good Indian. I've been here a few times without any major complaints. It is quite expensive - even when you order takeaway but it seems like a good quality and a clean place. I have only had the Butter Chicken and Garlic Naan a few times - it tastes like Indian should. One thing though, if the sauce was a little thicker and creamier it would be perfect.
Toastman
Good Indian. Been here a few times before. I like the Indian food cooked and served here. While it is expensive for this type of cuisine, the quality is great. We had Naan bread, buttered chicken and lamb vindaloo. All were excellent, but the servings were a little small.
Jfkfif
Amazing!. We have come to balti on several occasions, it just seems to get better. The waitstaff are polite and quick they have a really good knowledge of the menu, the atmosphere is even better with beautiful decor and lovely lighting. The best thing about this restaurant is the warm and deliciously generous servings of food especially great for those cold nights. Balti is definatly my favourite Indian restaurant in perth, I recommend to anyone in the area to try it out.

Finally! We've been waiting so long for this. Having found this place by accident (was looking for City Spices which was closed and this was nearby), I couldn't be more happy. As a pom, and from close to Birmingham, the supposed fabled home of the Balti, it's name boded well for the sort of Indian I knew and loved and I wasn't disappointed. Beautiful puffy poppadoms with lots of dip and chutney and the onion bhajis and potato cakes were beautiful, served with more delicious dip. The tikka and butter chicken were sooo good and the butter naan was even better. I was so impressed and delighted that I brought my husband back later the same week. I went butter chicken this time and my husband had the lamb rogan josh which he said was "melt in the mouth delicious with lots of favour and beautifully cooked". We are both eager to return especially as they are so generous with their mango chutney, not the usual thimble full that you tend to get served elsewhere in Perth.

Never coming back. Been there last week staff is rude service was very slow, few staff just ignore customers , over priced for the quality and quantity they serve.
will never come back here .
had to pay for what i cancelled staff dont care about customers at all.
very very very rude staff...

Pathetic service. I had really bad experience. . The staff was so disappointing.. not at all a good service.
This is for the attitude of the staff ..
Will never come back again ... !!!

Great curry - by far the best Indian resturant we have found since relocating to Perth in May 2013 - been on a couple of occasions and the good has been consistently excellent.

First and Last visit to Balti. It is unfortunate that my first visit to Balti restaurant was a very bitter experience with both service quality and food.
Service-
1. We've been asked to give food order at least 5 times by 5 different waiters . It was annoying especially when we had ordered on the very first time.:) I don't think Balti has a very large dining area but somehow all staff were not communicating with each other or probably Balti is missing a very basic system to allot a single waiter to few tables or a dining area in hall. It was so disturbing at one time that we were planning to walk out without even starting the meal. But somehow we avoided.
2. After dinner we requested a waitress to pack the box of curry and 2 butter naan which was leftover from dinner. She accepted the request with a smile and said not a problem to do that. A minute after another waitress came down to the table and took all the leftovers. We thought she is taking it inside the kitchen to give us back in take away containers. But after few minutes the first waitress came back with an apologetic words suggesting that the other waitress who took the food from table have threw all the food in bin. We were amazed again with the lack of basic communication within staff. It looked like they are so unhappy working there.

Food-
Food quality and taste was very ordinary to the price we have paid. The similar priced Nine Marry restaurant on Hay street have much better taste and quality. Coctails and Moctails were very plain and dull. The only good thing was the Corona beer. :)

I don;t think after this first impression I would ever want to come back or would recommend to any of my friends about this restaurant.
Devi
Just loved the Tandoori chicken..very authentic taste.
Biriyani was bit spicy but nice.
Wouldn't recommend the red onion drizzled with chilly powder served a side for spicy biriyani.Didn't like their Kashmiri naan which was very sweet almost tasted like halwa paratha. Overall good.
Dfdjfarmer
Dissappointed by lack of response. We enjoyed a nice meal at Balti prior to seeing a show at the concert hall. I paid the bill but didn't check the details, following the weekend I checked it and noticed we had been charged for an extra bottle of wine. I emailed the restaurant, requesting a refund on the basis that I thought it would have been a mistake, dissapointingly I have had no reply from the management to even discuss it.
Dawn
Dishes were pretty bland in terms of what one expects with indian food. Everything was just ok.

Found My Favourite Indian Restaurant. I was recommended this place by my friend, went there with my partner, had a great evening, Nice ambience, Food was absolutely divine. Must try their prawn cutlets and lamb with spinach yummm.

Not to forget the service was great.

I was there withr freinds for my birthday had amazing time from delicious mouth watering entres to the best
Butter chicken I ever had ,the service was great and the desserts were to die for must give it a go for your next
Indian dine out

Simply the best. Balti is one of my favourite restaurants in Perth and the food and service never fail to please.

I have been to Balti many times now and had the opportunity to dine there once again last night. As always it was an enjoyable experience. I love the ambiance of the place and the decor. The food is authentic, fresh and delicious and came out quickly even though they were busy. I always receive service with a smile and the waitstaff in particular the manager are very attentive and friendly, not to mention knowledgeable about the dishes.

I can't fault Balti in anyway and am yet to find another Indian restaurant in Perth of the same standard. Whenever I have a craving for Indian, it is my number one choice.
Alexandra
Wonderful!. This is a great place to dine. My partner and I were served by a lovely waitress and although it was a little expensive (what do you expect in Perth?) we really enjoyed our meals and will certainly return. Thank you Balti! xx.
Diana
Love the food.. Service was great... But be specific about what you want.. How spicy you want it... No one person is a mind reader.. :)

Off the list..... We used to love Balti-Not anymore.Of the 10+ times I have tried to order a delivery, they tell me it is not available-never is!! Food is (was) good, but it seems to have gone down hill in the service stakes.
Sue
The Balti is one of my favourite indian restaurants in Perth. The food is outstanding as is the service. The combination of spices and wonderful flavours are a joy. Try the spicy whitebait or the fantastic biriyani always a favourite. A great place to relax with family and friends. Try the fresh lunchtime Thalis a mini smorgasbord of favourite dishes avalable as lunchtime specials. The Balti is the best. Sue

Food ok but there are better in Perth. Waitstaff knew nothing about wine and provided warm reds, seemingly not upstanding that wine should be stored and served at 10-18C. Wieter poured it like a beer.

Worst Customer Service. This place is a bully bazaar. Worst customer service. This place is surviving only because of its prime location.
I went with other 6 friends for dinner on a weekend, we all ordered non-veg banquets. Due to religious reasons, we requested to replace the Beef dish with Lamb or similar. The person gave such a disgusting look, as if we are eating for free and rudely said "NO, we don't do that, if you want lamb you can order from the menu". I am a person who goes different cuisines and try different food, especially banquets & buffets. No one ever rejected to replace a beef dish with something else. Other thing, the guy in whit shirt [he is in that white shirt always], keeps on filling the water in the glasses only when you order a banquet. If you are ordering anything from the menu, he wont even bother to serve water even if you are choking to death. Just a dirty tactic to fill your stomach with water. I'm 100% sure about this, cause I have visited this place the second time, ordered food from the menu and I noticed the difference. Also, with banquet, when we order an extra serve, they will delay it as much as possible just make your carving die. If we order from menu, the order is straight on the table within no time.
Oh, the deserts...dear friends...plain water ice cubes tastes far better..believe me.
I wouldn't recommend this place to a friend...Go to a pub, and I bet you will be served better even in such rush.

WHAT ARE THEY THINKING!!. I dined with a friend for the first time at Balti and so sorry we did. Although well patronised the prices were OVER inflated!! I had Rogan Josh and at $20 odd dollars for a small dish I would of been lucky to have had 6 small pieces of meat. Only thing going for it was that it was "tender". Rice was luke warm. Service was mediocre by way of almost being nil (except to take your order to put money in their till); music far too loud for dining and drinks were way too pricey. The menu was soooo boring. Sorry guys "never to return".

Disappointed x 9. I had been before, it was just the two of us, it was very nice and so I decided to go with 9 friends for my birthday. We were bullied into having the buffet. We ordered the meat buffet, $55 each, 3 dishes of the same x 3. One of the nine dishes was a vegetarian dish x 3. One of my friends only likes butter chicken, he was told he could not have any of our buffet or rice or naan bread because he was ordering separately. This was pointed out several times. After eating our meals there was so much food leftover, so we asked for doggy bags and were told we could not have them! The wine is over-priced and the staff just plain rude. We spent nearly $700 and felt ripped off.

Very average, pricey Indian food! Chicken Zafrani with almond gravy was a disaster! Mango lassi had diluted flavour. Service & ambience was good.

Just had dinner here.. Food didn't have a spicy scale and everything I had was overly spicy..Service was very poor as well. It took them more time to process my credit card than the time it took for me to create a urban spoon account and write this review.

Elegant and tasty. We went to Balti on a Friday night. It was my boyfriend's birthday and he was wearing a "Birthday Boy" badge (that I had given him as a joke, but not expected him to wear out ;-). We were immediately given a table (and the waitress wished my boyfriend a happy birthday :). We ordered two watermelon mojitos and asked for them to be brought out before dinner was served. This did not happen; instead our food was brought out and we had to ask what happened with our drinks. The waitress went to find out and came back to tell us that they were out of watermelon and asked if we wanted regular mojitos instead. We declined and ordered two beers (that would go better with the food; unlike the mojitos that would have been nice on their own). The waitress apologized and told us the beers were complimentary.

My boyfriend ordered the chicken vindaloo and because I wasn't very hungry I ordered the potato cakes (after asking the waitress to recommend one of the starters). He likes spicy food and often finds vindaloos not to be spicy enough. This one was very spicy, but got the thumbs up as one of the best ones he has had. The potato cakes were fine, but probably not something I would have ordered myself (but my fault for agreeing and not ordering something else).

We were asked if we wanted deserts, but said no and were finishing our drinks when they brought over deserts for us (my boyfriend’s one with a candle :).
This is a nice place and unlike most other Indian restaurants it feels elegant. The food was very good, the service a little bit messy, but they certainly went out of their way to compensate for the mistake with the drinks. When we paid the manager apologized again for the misunderstanding with the drinks and was very friendly .

Popped in to this restaurant after a WASO concert so was 9,30ish. Food was ok , not as good as some Indian I have had. Still quite ok. Although have to say the Tandoori Prawns were a bit scant. However we ordered Chicken Tikka and were given Tandoori Chicken which was disappointing especially when it was specifically pointed out on menu to wait staff person. No real apology for error but it is a minor point. Overall meal was ok but rushed at end and slightly overpriced for what it was.

The customer service was poor especially towards Indian. It Being a Indian restaurant hurt me the most. It reminded me of discrimination during the British Raj. Staff needs to be trained on people skills and given teachings on equality irrespective of race, religion or sect. when you are in service industry this matters the most.

Food was sensational! Definitely be back next time in Perth.

Great food and service! :). I ate at this restaurant with some friends last week and was served by a waitress, Sarah, who gave wonderful service and great food recommendations as the food was impeccable. I definitely recommend the butter chicken! The relaxing ambience added to the experience. will definitely be back!

Winner. After being being highly regarded by nearly everyone I spoke to... I don't know what all of these people below are on about, I went there earlier this week as a group of 5, not only was the food amazing, but the it all came out quicker than I could eat what was on my plate, and it seemed like the place was booked out!

Lovely staff, very attentive!
I plan to go back very soon definately a winner.
Good Food
Well, we never got to try the food! We were offered a table for two in an alley leading to the toilets. We requested that there were many other tables available. Every table had "reserved" marked. The staff were so scared to offer another table. They had to get an approval from the manager that identified himself as the owner. An absolute rude and worse mannered person! We were told to take the table on offer or leave. We chose to leave! There are plenty of other options. Also do not try Curry Tree in Nedlands. I would recommend Dhaba which is nearby and has the best authentic Indian food on offer.

Lack is the word. Went to eat at Balti on Saturday. it was my birthday treat by the hubby woohooo!! Food is Great, i ll have to say.well done to the chef or Chefs. Unfortunately service is CRAP!! Forgive my lack of a better word! but for the price i paid, i would want to be given a better service than what i got! i noticed that everybody wore some kind of a black attire or uniform which i presume would be the waiters but there was one dude that had a diffferent colour shirt that just tend to hang around and was chatting away! i tried to signal him as he was closer to me for some water when i sat down but apparently he did not notice as his conversation with the other dude seemed more interesting and i had to wait for a while until a busy waiter from the other corner to come and serve me. i dont know who he is, even though he might have been the owner, i would imagine giving service to his customers is crucial if he wants us to return. but apparently noT! and Guess what Apparently I WILL NOT RETURN!! its a pity though cause i really did enjoy the food, but service is too much of a let down for me!

Nope is the Answer. Agree with everybody.. went there yesterday just to check it out after reading the reviews.. uhhuh uhuh uhhuh..i recommend CURRY TREE IN Nedlands instead.. its miles apart!

Absolutely never again.. Waited 50 minutes. No food is worth this amount of waiting time. Further, no apologies made about the delay. I'm absolutely furious at the service. Would not return. Ever.

I had the Fish Masala, Aloo Paratha, Garlic Naan, and a Mango Lassi, only one word can describe it all- Beutiful! Great service, ambience, and all very reasonably priced.

Lovely evening. Yummy lamb skewers it had some great balance of flavors, nicely presented. The lamb rogan josh is one of the best i ever had, meat was tender sauce was just enough with beautifully cooked roti! We had great service... Being in the industry myself and being very choosy and particular as to where I dine I am please that Balti met my expectations.

Over-rated in all respects. Vietnamese in Riverside Drive much better food & value. Cheers

Recently i blessed this place with my presence, along with my dardy lil lady. It was buzzing with peeps and the things were happenin, i would imagine a bit like india. We started with a double starters plate, decent size and different flavours. More hit than miss. We played it safe with the lamb rogan josh and the butter chicken which were delightful. The balti (buckets in hindi) were charming - im not indian i just read a review while i was waiting. I thought the staff were kind even the manager. One thing was the glasses were quite dirty.. I still drank from it though. 3 smiles out of 5 smiles. YoUr tHOugHts marGareT?

What a pile of Balti!!!!. My partner and I have wanted to go here for ages- it is beautifully decorated and looked very trendy........ that is where the compliments stop!
We went there on a Friday evening but the place wasnt busy. For some reason we were shown to a table right by the bar where the waitors had to push past every time they served the other customers.
We decided to go for a few plates to share which were fine but far too expensive for the portion size when they finally arrived.
It was the service that ruined it for us especially though; we were ignored, slow service, our drinks were taken to another table but worst of all we over heard the waitors slagging off the other customers!!!!!
The bill was then thrown onto our table, never asking if we would like another drink or something else and then we left with no goodbye or thanks...... WHAT A PILE OF BALTI!!

Awesome Food- very friendly staff. I went there this sunday with my family.. ordered a few dishes, butter chicken, fish curry, biryani and few naans . it was lovely.. to be honest at first i was very apprehensive, since its bit on the high side in regards to the price but after eating the food, i found it worth it. Apparently i was told by my collegues, there has been a change of management over the past few months, and surely it shows. great new staffs and a very friendly and caring manager on the counter! love his attitude and funny remarks.
would be coming back again for sure (4 out of 5)

Excellent Indian. This food was fabulous!! the service and the ambience was good and the restaurant was a little bit noisy (like all good restaurants are)....but the food was phenomenal....! ive eaten indian all around london and this by far was up there with the best of them....

Worst Indian I have ever had!. Went here for some take away when staying in the city. For starters it was $83 for two people for take away. We had the butter chicken (bland) and the goat curry. The flavour of the goat curry wasn't bad but it was mostly bone and very little meat. We ordered a serve of plain rice each, 2 garlic naan and some condiments. The nann was the worst naan i have EVER had and neither of us could eat it! It was cold, stale and rock hard. Obviously been sittting there for awhile. We were told it would be ready in 15 mins and we were there on time. Really disappointing all round, will never go back! Back to 9 Mary's for me!

What the?. This place is a little strange. When you walk in, it feels as if you are at a 60's disco and then you have to wait about half hour for your meal. I wasn't satisfied on two occassions. Don't bother.

7/10 - Had take out but a little dissapointed. Chicken vindaloo was way too hot for partner & child with no option for heat level. Ordered for 2 pax but too much rice & for $9.00 received 2 paratha...what a crock! Will not recommend

Mostly dissapointing. We booked for 5 as we had seen good reviews and noted Balti had won Indian restaurant of the year for WA or some such award.
We were given the drinks menu and attempted to order 5 Mohitos to get the evening started. After 5 mins we were advised that they didn't have the ingredients for a Mohito - they had no rum nor lime as their supplier had not delivered apparently.
So we tried to order some spirits but again had a very restricted set of options. A couple maanged to piece together something and the rest of us ordered beers only to be advised that half the beers were not avialable either!
Anyhow 4 of us opted for the grand banquet at $50 a head which looked great on paper.
After a fairly lengthy wait (onto second beer already) 2 plates arrived which looked pretty huge - I enquired if each of these was for 2 diners to share and was told no one each the other 2 wouild be out shortly. We told 2 of our diners to start and after 10 mins I asked where the other 2 plates were, the waiter returned only to advise I was right and they were to share. Little late as our diners had eaten most of the entree by now - anyhow we expresssed our dismay and ate what was left.
Mains arrived pretty quickly thereafter and were actually quite nice - not great but pretty good and a marked improvement on the entree.
I got talking to one of the waiters (not the one who had no idea) and asked if the restaurant was perhaps under new management as it seemed a bit of a shambles and you guessed it yes it was he had worked for 3 different managers now and apologised for the experience.
So in all not the best experience and won't be going back.
