Review Sushia Izakaya - Perth

James Allen
The chefs at Sushia Izakaya prepare modern Japanese cuisine to hungry patrons seated in their clean & well presented restaurant. The dishes we had were great; the chefs did well to accentuate the delicate flavours of the fresh produce we were served. The wait staff were attentive & knowledgeable, and overall it was an enjoyable experience. Price wise, this restaurant is on the more expensive side of the spectrum, and dinner and drinks for two cost just shy of $300. There is an option to do a set menu, however with our dietary restrictions we were unable to take advantage of it.

Great food! Well balanced with good combinations that bring out the natural flavours. We got the lunch course menu. It's a bit dark (leading to average photos) but it's not that bad in person. Sake variety is good and prices are reasonable for Australia.
Kevin Lee
Nice little restaurant, very friendly staff who were very accommodating to us; my girlfriend can't have prawns and they were happy to modify the omakase menu to suit her. Food was nice and fairly priced for the product.

Fantastic sushi rice and fresh fish. Service staff were prompt and courteous. Pricing is little hefty but well worth the price in my opinion especially for their lunch sets. The unagi rice set is simply fantastic and the tempura prawns were fried to a fluffy batter equivalent to many of the finer restaurants in Japan! I would certainly return if I have the chance to visit Perth again.

I've got invited by my friend to go try Sushia Izakaya restaurant in Brookfield Place. I would say that some of the dishes are good but some it's a bit too sweet for my liking. We ordered the Omasake 1 menu. The first course was the SHAKE SASHIMI Fresh salmon sashimi from Tasmania It's really and refreshing MISO SHIRU Japanese miso soup, tofu, wakame This is just your standard miso soup. GARDEN SALAD Assorted baby greens in Sushia dressing The salad selection is pretty good. I love this dish a lot. TEMPURA MORIAWASE Lightly battered prawn and vegetable tempura The tempura was just right and the dipping sauce is really good. SHAKE KUSHIYAKI Salmon skewer, Japanese mustard miso sauce TORI KARAAGE Japanese deep fried marinated chicken, spicy aioli PORK BELLY Twiced cook pork belly, hatcho miso, pear ginger salsa The pork belly should have the right consistency i.e meat, fat and skin should be proportioned. There is no crispy skin, the fat to meat proportion is a bit too much fat not a lot of meat. The pork felt like just boiled pork with ginger. It's This is my least favourite dish. EYE FILLET Kinoko teriyaki sauce The eye fillet was cooked just right. Unfortunately, the sauce in the dish is a bit too sweet for my liking. CHEF'S DESSERT It was a green tea dessert and it's really good. I will return but not try their degustation dishes.

No one ever answers the phone when you try to book but i guess because they rather you book online. Food was Ok, service however was great, very attentive and friendly waitstaff.

Such a nice place to go for a fancier date night. I have been looking for fresh sashimi all around Perth and this restaurant seems like the only place that has fresh juicy sake 👏🏻👏🏻 Will definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves sushi and has high expectations like I do.

The food here was pretty good. We went there for during lunch and they had the set lunches there. It was okay but I feel the service was not fantastic even though to it was empty, maybe they were closing as I went there at 215pm. Otherwise the place feels nice and cozy.

So glad we found out about this place. The food was absolutely amazing! And the staff were fantastic. I will tell everyone I know and we will be back to finish the menu Thankyou
Carly Elizabeth
We made a booking and table wasn't ready when we arrived, so they gave us both complimentary glass of wine, then we were seated about 10 mins later. Food was phenomenal - the cold dishes - beef & tuna takaki and the kingfish were amazing!! Highly recommend!

Third visit here and the food again was amazing. So fresh and delicious. The pickled ginger is so refreshing. Every plate was pleasing to the eye and the palette.

I absolutely love the staff here, they are just so amazing. And the food is to die for. We have always had such a wonderful time when we dine here so thank you once again for another memorable night 😀

Exceptional service and mouth watering food. Very accommodating to pregnant women , amazing atmosphere, can't be faulted. Best dish - Soft shell crab Salad

We had a really lovely meal, we chose the set menu "Omakase 1" and was really well worth it. Service was also great and all staff were always smiling. Well done :)

Management was great, and done whatever it took to keep his customers happy. Even if a few of them still remained awkward from the word go. Food was awesome. Would like to come experience what else you guys do. The only set back that I had was that my coke was flat. However, the bar staff were happy to fix that issue straight away. I took a star for the coke, but the other 4.....you all earned :) Thanks to all staff for a great night and to the chefs for awesome food.

My favourite Japanese restaurant in Perth. Sushia Izakaya has nice ambiance, good food, and impeccable service. 👍

Best sushi place in Perth. In fact, I can’t go anywhere else for Japanese now, they have set the bar very high.

Went with my wife and kids for our 15th Wedding anniversary, the staff and kitchen crew nailed it, we will be back.

Ridiculously delicious My favourite restaurant in Perth where food is literally art

Outstanding!! By far the best of its type in Perth!
Queen Of Food
Had dinner here the other night for one. Started with the salmon tacos - I thought while the salmon was fresh they were very plain. Not enough seasoning. The calamari I thought was nice, good touch of spice and soft. The sushi however thought was too thick. The flavour was good but if was messy to eat because they were a bit too large. Service I think needs the most improvement, when I asked for the bill it came 10 mins later and they didn’t bother to clean the table. then no one came up to me with the machine to process my payment. After waiting 15 minutes I decided to get up and walk to the register myself. Multiple staff members saw me but no one helped, finally after another 5 mins someone came. Poor service and ok food, don’t think I’ll return.

This was an excellent experience. Really enjoyed the Unagi Jyu set and the beer was cold & fresh. Best beer I've had in a while. Great atmosphere and vibe and super friendly staff.  Would definitely return.
April Lee
Had bad experience dining there 3 years ago . Sorry you will never have my business. Vivian pak I hope you didn’t work there anymore . You are the worst and rude waitress I had never seen in my life .

Came for dinner and it did not disappoint. Loved the design of this place and only complaint is it's a bit dark. Cant fault the food tho. Fresh sashimi and delicious beef takaki. Soft shell crab with watermelon was good too. Bit pricy but I think it's worth it.

Please don’t recommend your friends to go there. Extremely disappointed with their rib-eye steak. We’ve ordered a medium rare which it came out overcooked and dry. Instead of replacing the dish or offer us something else they said if we want a new piece we would need to pay half price. Their quality of customer care is poor. We will not be going back there again, we will go back to Nobu for better food and service.

Probably the best Japanese in Perth. Great chic setting in a basement. Good for a romantic dinner but also works for a business lunch. Food and sushi is superb. More expensive than others but probably worth it

My regular go to place for a quick lunch when I am in Perth for work. Heaps of variety to choose from and the turnover rate is good. Service is rapid so perfect to get in and out when you are in a hurry. The chicken karaage on brown rice is a winner.

My partner’s favorite place in Perth, and recently being introduced to Japanese food, I have now been pleasantly surprised and love it also! Dessert platter is great value, just everything you eat here is epic.

Dinners at Sushia are always amazing! I’ve been a number of times and it never disappoints.<br/>They even manage to make their Edamame stand out!
Rafira
Sushia was very impressive. The setting is gorgeous, hidden under Brookfield plaza and the restaurant is elegantly decorated. It was a quiet night and we felt like we were having a private dining experience. The staff are all very polite, highly knowledgeable and attentive. In terms of the food, the sashimi was the clear stand out, with each fish being fresh, high quality and delicious. We also loved the almond matcha cake, which surprisingly was frozen but gorgeously creamy and a delicate balance of matcha and sweet flavours. For me the pork belly was a letdown as it has a very mild, almost bland taste. The price was very reasonable. I would gladly return to try the rest of the menu.

Modern and stylish interior design. It’s located in Perth CBD . It’s a bit hard to find the place as it hide in downstairs. Food has good quality. Spiced crab is worth to try . Garlic fried rice is simple but tasty . Wide range of drink list and you can’t miss sake in here. In general , it’s a great place to dinning . Call them and get a table first :) enjoy !

Atmosphere is good but it is a bit noisy. Very hard to talk. Staff are friendly too. The food is delicious. Sushi is good. Pork gyoza are very juicy inside. I like the unagi fried rice. Dessert is a mixture of all different dessert. I like the black sesame (black color).

**NOT JUST A SUSHI JOINT** If you can find a better tasting more tender and juicy eye fillet than you get here you should go ahead and marry it. Seriously. Not sure if it always comes this way but they somehow knew I’d be sharing dish with dining companion so it came on a long platter with serves on either end with a salad between. All the usual Jap staples but everything done with flair, attention to detail and freshness. Very roomy interior, good ambience and a warm inviting feel all round. Service attentive tho it would be easier if all staff could take all orders instead of apparent demarcation if duties between bringers of drinks, food orders etc. Also some desserts were a little too sweet with tendency to a more Western palate, I’d have preferred sticking to traditional Japanese desserts which aren’t a sickly sweet and delicate in flavours. Overall tho it’s now on my list of go to places in the CBD.

Sashimi always very fresh. Seems to be busy even during the week. Odd that not all staff can take orders- not sure if that is due to staff in training
Eunice
Unexpectedly excellent food! Came in on a Friday night expecting it to be really busy but surprisingly there weren't as many people as we thought. Got attended quickly and decided to go with the omakasen menu. Every single dish that they served was to its finest, I can't find any fault. I love their salmon skewers, their pork belly, and the beef was cooked to its perfection as we ordered it medium rare. Food was served in a fast pace like what others have mentioned, but didnt hinder me from giving them a 5 star. Would love to come back again!
Michelle Maguire
It was exceptional. Every meal we had: scallops, fried chicken, beef and chicken skewers, gyoza and pork belly.... were just tender, flavoursome and the best Japanese I’ve had.... <br/>
Nicky Kain
When you order a prawn main course for $36 it is reasonable to expect more than 4 prawns that were also overlooked. What a ripoff! The adegashi tofu and salmon tacos were small but nice. Overall reasonable service ( entrees were quick but the mains took a long time given this was a Wednesday night and they were not busy) lovely decor but being ripped off does not make a good night!!
HonestGirlPerth
This is my favourite japanese restaurant in Perth. The sashimi is melt in your mouth and super fresh! The ambiance is good, and service efficient!

Have had the pleasure dining here quite a few times and every visit has been great! I’ve celebrated and anniversary and a birthday with the staff at Sushia and both times they have been amazing and so accommodating!! Best Japanese option for every occasion!! Treat yourself and drop by 😊👍🏻

Food was yum. Ambience was great. Manager/ owner was hospital. However, didn't like it when the waitress kept on hurrying/rushing us to finish our plates?! The place was not even full and there was no ppl queuing up to come in but why rush?! <br/>I am paying premium price in a Japanese restaurant, at least give me some time to savour my food and the ambience? Did not appreciate that the waitress asked us to hurry up and SCOOP up our food onto our plates so that she can take the plate away! Mind you, there was still half on the plate!<br/>So don't think i will be coming back anytime soon with a 'hurry up and finish your plate' kinda service...
SweetPoison
Amazing food. Amazing service. Great atmosphere. This place is a definite visit. Has never disappointed! Miso salmon and tuna sashimi were delicious.

Went for a work lunch in a party of five. We shared some edamame to start - the big salt crystals were nice and the serving size was good. We all had Bento sets. I had the saikyo miso salmon version. The Bento includes rice, miso soup, mixed tempura, salad and sashimi in addition to the main. I thought it was decently priced, and the rice was particularly nice. <br/>The only thing I didn't like was that the tempura was served with a spicy aioli or something rather than a traditional dipping sauce. It wasn't unpleasant, but I prefer the traditional version with tsuyu and daikon oroshi.

We had the omakase number 2 for dinner and I must say the food is very average. Omekase is suppose to be innovative and surprising, but we were served the average and usual Japanese dishes (prawn and sweet potato tempura, miso soup etc), which I could have easily gotten at any Japanese restaurant for a much cheaper price. <br/><br/>The only good thing about our night was the wagyu beef, cooked perfectly medium rare. Other wise pan fried fish was overpowered by too much miso sauce, the deep fried scallops tasted very oily and greasy, the sea weed salad was something you can get from the supermarket, the skewers were average, and the dessert wasn't even Japanese! We were served mango semifreddo which I think wasn't a good fit for the whole omakase course. <br/><br/>Each dish was served in a rush as well, and I thought for omakase they were supposed to serve one dish at a time? At some point we had like 3 dishes served at the same time. The waitress were very keen to clean up your plate even though we haven't really finish eating <br/><br/>The most disappointing bit was the way they served the sake. We ordered warm sake and it was serve just in a flask without a warm water bath or anything to keep it warm, so by 20 minutes later the sake was room temperature.<br/><br/>All in all, the omakase is very average and not worth the money we paid <br/>

Good value fresh delicious food at Sushia Izakaya. The assorted sashimi was as if someone had just gone to the sea and caught the fish for you.. so fresh and delightful. The fillet teppanyaki was so lush and just melt in the mouth. We also had soft shell crab sushi. Everything were just so yummy. Im still drooling thinking about the food there. Good selection of sake too.

Hidden away underground just off Adelaide terrace, this place is quite large and could easily cater for a large group or function. They have the option of omakase (chefs selection) or you can pick from the menu, we went with the latter on this occasion. The sashimi platter was generous and had good variety and all the dishes were really fresh and super tasty, the soft shell crab maki was probably the standout though, I could have 10! Reasonably priced considering the prices at most Japanese restaurants, it compares well. A must if you are a Japanese food fan in Perth.

Brilliant food, good service and nice environment. Our favourite are the tokoyaki balls and soft shell crab salad. Highly recommended sushia.

Ok so u cant order drinks at the bar mmm so had to sit for 25mins until a waiter took our order opps sorry only 2 people order ...what did u think the other four people didnt want to eat or drink had to wait another five minutes for our order to be taken..... meanwhile the two bar tenders are still cleaning the same wine glass over and over... <br/>At least ur food was fantastic and I be back for more yet not for the drink service

Great service & atmosphere, lots of room. Great wine selection, i luv that huge wine fridge. Food was hit & miss unfortunately. <br/>Entree - The Sashimi was fresh, soft shell crab sushi rolls were great.<br/>Mains - The lamb cutlets was divine, that egg plant & miso puree was to die for. I will be back just for that. Unfortunately the duck tepanyaki was a real let down- dry, tough & not much flavour to it, at $32 a dish, it was highly disappointing.<br/>Desserts - The Ivory Dome desert was nice, although the tempered choc was too thick, it was difficult to break or chew thru. Flavours were there though.
Food And People
I was wandering around some back alleys looking for somewhere for lunch and found this place. The inside and outside decor is quite different. It is very warm and elegant inside The service was lovely and the food outstanding

Snobbish staff and bad service, had a really unpleasant experience. They do not care if their customers are happy, does not apologise for their mistake or mishaps. Judging from their menu, most of their food are/were available at Nobu (same dish, different name) they should at least come up with their own dishes. Also, their food's quality is lower and inconsistent as compared to Nobu. <br/><br/>My advise is to save the money and opt for Nobu instead.

DEFINITELY NOT GOING BACK, EXTREMELY BAD SERVICE, FOOD WAS ALRIGHT, CUSTOMERS ARE AT FAULT WHEN CLEARLY THEIR EMPLOYEES MESSED UP, COULDNT UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY WERE SAYING AND THEY DID NOT BOTHER TRYING. WOULD MUCH RATHER GO TO NOBU. <br/><br/>Extremely bad experience! They served us rib eye when we ordered wagyu and told us it was wagyu when "explaining" the dish. They then brought the wagyu to our table only to explain that the rib eye was for the table behind us and brought the wagyu to them. We then have to call them over and ask "what's next? Are we still getting the wagyu or not" followed by going back and forth about the issue; first second it's free of charge next we have to pay a little and then they did not come back with a reply. Not long after, they served us the wagyu and that was it, no apology nothing. Worse came to worst was when we went to the counter to pay for our bill because the staff was hell cocky. He did not apologise for their mistake AT ALL, and instead, asked us in a really rude manner "did you get your wagyu?" as though he was sarcastically asking us "are you happy now?". <br/><br/>Yeah we're glad that we took the bullet on behalf of everybody else who haven't experience such a "pleasant" experience at yours, you're welcome :)

POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE <br/><br/>I booked a Private dining room for my mum's 50th birthday. The minimum spend was 1000 and above so we expect good service and good food since paying for this amount of money. <br/><br/>The food was good but the only thing that really made me angry was the customer service. I will need to walk out of the room to find a server for help. Despite spending this amount of money, I could of gotten a better service from somewhere else. Also when I made the booking I said I will require two high chairs for my two baby, but when I got there it was tatami style sitting. So the high chair wouldn't fit, so I was holding the baby for the whole time. <br/><br/>I just thought if I have to spend this amount of money, I should be getting some decent service and should at least let me know about the high chair issue. <br/><br/><br/>If you are prepared to pay 1000+ for good service and good food, I will probably choose NOBU next time!!!

Highly recommend Sushia! My sister and I were here a few weeks ago and had a wonderful experience. The service was friendly and very attentive. We ordered a few dishes to share, we loved all of them. Our highlights were the prawn and jamon yakitori, tori kara-age (didn't want this to end) and the pork gyoza. It took me straight back to my travels in Japan! Can't wait to return to this restaurant and try different dishes. Fantastic!

Excellent sprawling beast of a restaurant, have had numerous Japanese feasts here. Comprehensive menu covers all the main aspects of  Japanese cuisine, albeit no prefecture specialisation. Have always wanted to try Jingisukan from the Hokkaido prefecture, but have not been able to locate this in Perth.  Sashimi is a highlight, expensive and indulgent, beautifully presented and absolutely fresh, it's representative of the ethos Izakaya. <br/>Apparently staffed by chefs originally from Nobu, so standards are high.

Everything was fine (especially the salmon sashimi, which was so fresh and sweet! ) until the wagyu on hot stone came. Omg, the waitress carried the whole tray over and proceeded to just put it on top of all our dishes! The table was still full of unfinished dishes and she thought to just place it on top? I understand that the tray might be heavy, but first of all, they should have checked the table and perhaps inform us that the big tray was coming so she will need to rearrange the things on our table to make space. Secondly, even if she did not check beforehand, tell us so that we can do something about it (we'd be happy to rearrange the stuff for you), and not just force your way in! When we (guests!) scrambled to move the dishes away, the waitress did not care, and just rushed to dump the tray on the table, and then knocked over a friend's cup of sake! I really did not expect this to happen at a restaurant like this. Utterly disappointed!

The thing that strikes you first when walking through the doors of Sushia Izakaya is how beautiful everything looks. The room is dimly lit with candles accompanying each table and the atmosphere is one of a humble restaurant waiting to deliver a unique dining experience.<br/><br/>Highly recommend the Kara-age chicken and the Matcha Cake dessert. The sashimi is also particularly fresh.<br/><br/>Rating: 8/10<br/><br/>For full review:<br/><br/>yourfoodworld.com

For the full suite of sushi, sashimi and sake this place has both a well adorned a la carte menu and a couple of comprehensive looking set menus covering a wide variety of Japanese cuisine. <br/><br/>We opted for a la carte as we had a six year old with us, of slightly unadventurous disposition. <br/><br/>And the results were generally good, if not the absolutely amazing I was possibly expecting. <br/><br/>That being said the only real disappointment for the evening was the absence of tuna sashimi, run out, so replaced by, what would have to be said was a fairly anaemic spread of salmon. Elegantly presented but lacking the exquisite flavours that should be the fundamental prerequisite for sashimi. <br/><br/>The tempura prawns were tasty, but again not amazing. I have often had tempura with a number of dry spice/condiment options, chilli, matcha, salt that sort of thing. And this offering would have benefited from a bit of customer supported variety. <br/><br/>The gyoza were good.... and as someone who loves a good gyoza this is important. Well cooked and well flavoured - the highlight of the evening. <br/><br/>The salmon sushi was a hit with the mini-reviewer and the whole one that I snuck out from under her watchful nose conformed to the 'good not amazing' standard of the evening. <br/><br/>Dessert (not normally on my radar) offered up some interesting combinations. <br/><br/>The matcha cake and (our modification) vanilla ice cream was very tasty, when enjoyed in combination with all components as was the Japanese roll cake and white chocolate and matcha ice cream . But as disparate elements they were a bit lacking and as much as I like to mix and match, the fundamentals are important to me. <br/><br/>Overall it was an enjoyable meal and the service was prompt and friendly. The food was good, and would not be unhappy about retuning. But not sure I will be tripping over myself to do so.

I'm trying to think why I'm not giving this place 5/5. The minute we walked it is was like being back in Tokyo; a blend of the restaurants we enjoyed in Shinjuku. Without a reservation we were seated in front of the hot plate so we got dinner and a show! The saki menu was huge but we went with the hot sake and weren't disappointed. I guess hot saki isn't needed in Perth in spring but it was very reminiscent of Nesieko in the depths of winter.<br/>We ordered the lotus flower chips that are so pretty and a great nibble. Then a blend of duck (Teppanyaki), chicken (skewers) and beef (gyoza). With rice of course and all amazingly presented. My photos don't do any of it justice. <br/>The service was fabulous and everything was served quickly. Mostly the tastes were excellent but perhaps the condiments could have been a little tastier / zingier. Having said that they looked amazing. If I needed a reason to go back to Japan (and I don't) it would be for the food. <br/>www.thesoloavocado.com

We came here on a Monday night as most things were closed on Monday. We ordered the gyoza, salmon skewers, salmon aburi sushi, chicken teriyaki and rice. The gyoza was tasty and had a nice accompianing sauce. The salmon skewers were slighty overcooked but had a lovely unami flavour. The chicken teriyaki was nicely panfried and soaking in sauce. The salmon sushi was so delicious and fresh! <br/><br/>For dessert I ordered the white chocolate dome with miso caramel, banana jam and raspberry sorbet. The white chocolate dome was well tempered and snapped easily. The miso caramel was amazing with the banana jam. The raspberry sorbet was nice and homemade.

Delicious and fresh as always. Had soft shell crab salad, spiced edamame (both my go to's), miso soup, beef skewers, fish skewers. This place's best kept secret is the bar - never busy, always great service and yummy cocktails.

This restaurant is within Brookfield Place and was quite difficult to locate. Beautiful setting, nice ambiance and I especially liked the open kitchen concept. We went for the $100 omakase menu. Majority of the dishes were delicious. Towards the end of the degustation, when we were nearly stuffed to the brim, out came a plate of nigiri sushi. I thought they were just passable but that may just be the extremely full stomach talking. Wouldn't mind returning next time to try out their ala carte menu.

Wow. What fantastic Japanese food. Very helpful and attentive staff and nice decor. Highly recommend the wagyu gyoza and assorted sashimi!!!

A great restaurant! We had the set menu. Nearly every course was amazing! Dessert was the only let down - tasted alright but not as amazing as the other courses. The meat skewers and saké cocktails were to die for. Place is dim lit and has a nice romantic setting.

I booked lunch on a Monday for three of us. After initially having some difficulty finding this restaurant we were parched but service was swift and food was excellent.<br/><br/>Sashimi assortment- tuna/salmon/kingfish/snapper and scallops was soft, fresh, perfectly oily and expertly displayed.<br/><br/>Tempura assortment was light. A Decent serve. Not oily and very moorish. <br/><br/>Beef tataki was extremely well balanced with some shaved daikon. Mildly sweet and salty and perfectly rare in the middle. <br/><br/>The chicken teriyaki was ok, rice was lovely but I thought chicken being large breast slices was somewhat dry. But not terrible.<br/><br/>The service was swift and unobtrusive.<br/>It's a lovely dining room albeit a bit dark especially for daytime eating.<br/>Definitely will be back.

I always liked this place but this time round not so impressed they changed the menu I recommend you try the fried rice , the wagyu on stone
PerthfectBreakfast
Pretty underwhelmed by the food for the price we paid. It most definitely wasn't anything special. Started with the salmon tacos which were pretty bland as was the salt and pepper squid. The teppanyaki duck was pretty average and was tender but needed more sauce with it. Wagyu gyoza were five for $25 and they tasted OK. House sushi roll was so mediocre too. Nothing bad about the food, but nothing amazing. Definitely wouldn't come back though.

We dine here every six months with a group of friends. Tonight was our 7th visit and I have to report that it never lets us down. I will note that the menu has changed 👍 and the prices have slightly increased 👎but the quality and freshness is at an all time high standard. Enjoy a dirty martini at the bar beforehand 😊

I was in Perth for work for the weekend and stumbled upon this this gem - what a fabulous restaurant. Such lovely fresh Japanese, presented beautifully and just delicious. Great ambience in the restaurant and nice to not feel pressured to order all at once but we were able to order dish by dish until we were full. Next time I'm in Perth I will be back!

SUSHIA IZAKAYA & BAR ... Is one of my Most Loved & Adored JAPANESE Restaurants in Perth CBD.. Located in Central Brookfield Place. The location Is perfect & the interior Design is amazing... Makes you feel like your dining out in another city overseas. BUT my favourite dish is always the MORIAWASE SASHIMI platter!! It's alway Fresh. Delicious... & Colourful... I highly recommend SUSHIA IZAKAYA & BAR... Missy_K

If you want to have fantastic Japanese you must go to 'Sushia' in Brookfield Place. Well priced (you don't want cheap Sushi!) and great quality and service. Duck, pork belly, beef, sushi, tempura - all fantastic. Arigatou gozaimasu ;-)

Love the food, love the service, love the ambience.. Great place to take your special someone for special occasion or just want to impress. Food a bit pricey. We ordered salmon sashimi, tuna aburi, pork belly and the 3 sauces rib eye. Pork belly was good, even though I'm not a fan of ginger, the ginger on top wasn't gingery at all and I ate with no problem at all. The rib eye was great especially the sauces but 2 of them was quite sweet: the spicy sauce -I think it made with Korean gochujang; and the pepper sauce; the last sauce was creamy jalapeño - I personally think it's the best of 3. It's spicy yet has the fresh feel to it. Over all we spent $100 but we weren't full at all. My advice would be order the omakase.. Is pricey but at least you'd get to try more dishes. If you go ala carte, maybe order rice to fill you up

Delicious!! Loved all the food, we came in a group and shared many small dishes. The price for Japanese in inner city was acceptable and the ambiance lent itself to a great night out. Would definitely return.

3.3 rating<br/>I have dined here previously and found the normal menu to be quite good. The steak on hot rock was memorable in the last visit.<br/><br/>This time we had the omakase menu. Everything that arrived was generally good though lacking the wow factor. I really liked the scallop in crispy casing and the miso fish. The cubed steak was slightly chewy and in larger pieces - when you only have chopsticks you cannot cut it smaller. <br/><br/>Service was good and with a smile. <br/><br/>I just felt that this ruined the experience : eg. share plates were brought out and a person had two scallops per serve. One plate could only hold 5 so the third person had to take another scallop from another person's share plate. It was also really awkward that some plates were put in front of you and the waitress has to explain every time how many pieces you can eat and from which plate. Some courses I shared plates with person in front of me and some I shared with person left and right and etc. Our table had odd numbers. After many courses, this weird plate system got tiring. <br/><br/>This omakase is $80-100 per person, so I find the lack of attention to detail a let down to what would have been a pleasant meal. Perhaps there could be more dishwashers installed so each person could have their own plates next time... <br/><br/>I'm going to stick to normal menu if I return

Eat drink Perth is always showcasing the best of the food and drink industry Perth has to offer with restaurants having specials and events during the 6 weeks. One special that caught my eye was the Sushia Izakaya $48 3 course special. We decided to go for Friday lunch (it saved us having to find a babysitter). As I had had a light breakfast and had been busy all morning by the time it was 11.15am I was good and hungry and ready for some Izakaya goodness.

Fantastic restaurant, best Japanese i have ever had (even when i was in Japan, nothing was as good as this). Great atmosphere, really cool vibes.Only thing is its a tad too dark, some cute hanging lights instead of table candles would be better
Queen Of Bad Timing
Eat Drink Perth is an exciting time of the year, with restaurants, cafes and food vendors in and around Perth all putting on special menus, events and celebrations of all things edible or drinkable. I always throw myself into experiencing everything the month long festival has to offer, and can think of nothing better than literally eating and drinking my way through our beautiful city.
PerthFoodieGirls
As part of EatDrinkPerth we were invited to the launch and to try the set menu.<br/><br/>The first dish that came out was the sashimi (not part of the set menu). Then the creamy jalapeño popcorn prawns, for mains Pork ribs and for dessert it was a black sesame surprise, which was delicious and probably our favourite meal of the night.

Went here on Thursday expecting good things as my friends recommended. However I was completely disappointed because the food was not only expensive but lacked taste, quantity and had odd flavours. We tried the unagi fried rice and usually the eel is placed on top of the rice with a decent size portion , but when our food was delivered we could only see see rice and chopped eel pieces which required a microscope to look at the eel prices. When I got home I had very bad stomach pains and had a rotting smell from my Mouth of the unagi which has never happened to me as I'm a local traveller in Japan . I believe that this is not traditional Japanese good , and I would highly recommend a alternative Japanese restruant called James Parker where you find real Japanese that will make your stomach satisfied for years to come .

I'll start with a couple of bad points. First, we asked for just tap water and they came with a glass bottle of still. We didn't make a fuss out of it so just accepted it. However, when the bill came, we then found out it was $9.50! For water!? Secondly, we finished dessert but also finished our glasses of water. Thinking they would refill the glasses or even ask if we wanted more water, we waited and just kept chatting. For well over half an hour, noone bothered to ask. We ended up asking for a refill of TAP water when we asked for the bill.<br/><br/>The bad aside, the food was delicious! It was a special menu so it was set and there were no choices. However, we loved every course! I for one, definitely wanted more. The pork ribs were extremely tender that it just fell off the bones! Loved the presentation of the dessert as well.<br/><br/>If it weren't for the couple of bad points, I would rate it 4. I'd be happy to go back for the food.

Yes, I am a food nerd. Sushia has been siting on my excel spreadsheet for a while… It is my never ending list of restaurants in Perth that I want to experience. My Perth food bucket list that I add to almost daily – it never gets shorter! I was delighted when an invite landed in my inbox to dine at Sushia, to preview the newly designed set menu available exclusively for the Eat Drink Perth food festival, which is on now.
Foodie Cravings
I’ve dined at Sushia before and had such an enjoyable time that I was interested to see if it still delivers the goods. I feel like I write this every time I talk about a cuisine and how it’s a favourite of mine but I really do love traditional Japanese food. My mum is Japanese so I’ve grown up with her home style cooking and travelled to Osaka where she originates from many times over the years. Japanese food is a popular option for people when dining out these days but I am pretty selective about where I like to go to enjoy it...

I was delighted to be invited to Sushia Izakaya to taste the newly designed set menu for Eat Drink Perth. As a food blogger, these are the nights you look forward to!. My first impression of the venue was amazing. I loved the layout and the intimacy of the bar and eating areas. The kitchen is open which is a beautiful feature as I love spying on the chefs as they are busy cooking.
Frenched
We had the $80 set menu a few weeks ago. We both left fairly happy and full but I didn't have a single 'wow' during the dinner. Each dish was lovely but with japanese food I feel like there are so many opportunities to create -wow- food. None in this case.
Mini
Very disappointing meal, over priced, oyster was not fresh and it seems like the chef tried to cover up by overloading it with ponzu sauce. Waitress appears to be in la-la land when my partner had to repeat a dish three times before she wrote it down.<br/><br/>Will never ever return again.

This place is a really nice place. The atmosphere and setting is really nice. It can cater from couples to large groups. Bookings are reccommended to ensure you get a table as it can get quite busy. <br/>I have been here a few times for dinner and the the food is just simply delicious. However I decided to try this place for lunch for the first time recently and was very dissapointed. Portions were small (but quite tasty) for it's price. Also when our last dish (bento bix) didn't come out, it took the 3rd waitress to go and check what had happened. The other two before said it was coming without going to check. By the time it did come, we had already finished our other dishes. The sashimi in the bento box was hard, like it has been frozen and left to defrost but didn't defrost. It wasn't pleasant. <br/>I wouln't come here for lunch but would come back for dinner.
Pondering Perth Girl
Japanese is one of my all time favourite cuisines – I crave the thought of picked octopus, chilled sashimi and especially love a gyoza or anything torodito. So when one of my girlfriends, Emma, suggested a double date with our hubbies at Sushia on a Saturday night, I jumped at the chance. Funnily enough, Emma and her hubby Brigg first introduced Dave and I to ‘non-sushi’ Japanese about seven years ago with a visit to Halu on Oxford Street so we were looking forward to a comparably delicious meal.

Great food and service<br/><br/>The meat served on hot stone was fantastic. The fish with miso sauce was a game changer, all in all just great across the board. Highly recommend.

Delicious food with very good service. Very romantic because has a lounge atmosphere with dim lights. I had the soup but not hot enough they apologise and no charge they really on to it in this industry. They really passionate. Well done!
Perth Foodaholic
Pretty sure I had heard that a chef from Nobu had decided to leave and open up this place (but I could be wrong). There are a lot of similar dishes such as the tacos (so yummy!) and the miso cod (amazing!). Quality of food here is exceptional – sashimi is very fresh, most of the dishes are executed well such as the tempura and soft shell crab with watermelon. I will admit that the chicken teriyaki was a super disappointment – it was a piece of chicken breast with flavourless sauce. Other than that, I loved all the other dishes we had. Lots of dishes to choose from and if you go in a group, you can try them all! Some may be disappointed over the serving sizes of some of the dishes but this is a place whereby it is a matter of quality of quantity. It’s a special occasion kind of place and is definitely not a place to eat at if you are on a budget. I would describe this place as refined Japanese dining.

Christmas dinner with Anthony Trovato was a special one. We had a booking for 7, it wasn't too busy, but I guess everyone had left for their Christmas holidays and we were the only suckers who were still in Perth. It was a hot night and what better way to enjoy nice and fresh seafood to cool down and to fill our bellies.<br/><br/>We order 5 dishes. 1. Miso Soup 2. Raw Salmon 3. Nigiri Sushi - Salmon & Tuna 4. Soft Shell Crab Sushi 5. Teriyaki Chicken & Prawn Skewers. <br/><br/>Miso soup is always the best to open up your taste buds and it's just so darn tasty, this one was just that! <br/><br/>The raw salmon was very nice fresh but if you're not satisfied and you need a little kick, dipping it in soy sauce is were you get it right. <br/><br/>My favourite was the Nigiri Signature Tuna & Salmon. Tuna was my favourite, I can't explain how fresh this food was until you come here an try. So raw, so fresh, so soft, melts in your mouth. Both the Salmon and Tuna were mouth watering as soon as it came out, we fairly enjoyed! <br/><br/>The Soft Shell Crab Sushi was another winner, better with soy sauce but also enjoyable without sauce. The crab was crunchy and it was very easy to eat and it didn't taste oily.<br/><br/>Lastly the teriyaki chicken skewers was my favourite out of the two, it had a lot of flavour and in combination with the spring onion and sauce. The prawns I didn't find that good. I liked the prawns but I didn't realise that it came with roasted tomato. I'm not a tomato fan but it was wrapped in prosciutto which was perfect, I didn't hate it. <br/><br/>We skipped dessert but enjoyed a nice beverage. <br/><br/>Recommended and the location is superb.

Hmm, hankering for Japanese food and the Big Boss was insistent on trying this place as we had a voucher so who am I to argue. So off we troop to it. Actually we drove there but it's a figure of speech.<br/><br/>Hmm, initial impressions, the place is dark with minimal lighting. I jokingly told the wife that I might have to use a torch to navigate around. Got the GLARE! So immediately, oh wow, the menu is very interesting!<br/><br/>Hmm, as this review is written about a week after the dinner and post numerous gastronomical meals between Christmas and New Years, excuse me if there are a little sketchy.<br/><br/>Basically dinner consisted of loads of sides and a main which was shared. <br/>We ordered the renkon (lotus roots) chips which I had only 2 slices as the Little Boss commandeered it all to his side so it must be yummy. Tori and Gyu kyshhiyaki were nice and tasty, the rib eye was soft and almost melting in your mouth. The dips that come with the rib eye is wonderful. Vegetable tempura was nice and fluffy and not overpowering. <br/><br/>But the best dish in my opinion was the dessert platter. It basically consist of serves of everything on the dessert menu. The tofu cheesecake had me doubting as to how it would be presented but when it came out, it was absolutely delightful. I never thought that tofu can be made into a cheesecake but obviously it is possible.<br/><br/>Service is fast and effective. Server introduce each dish and what is it etc. The dessert platter was probably the most detailed. <br/><br/>I believe that this place is worth a return visit but I will probably will want to try the lunch menu the next time.

I've been to Sushia twice and have not been disappointed. It's a great place for a date night or share amongst a group of friends. The food is divine. The atmosphere is nice. And the staff are friendly. Definitely one of my favourite Japanese restaurants.
The Perth Brunch Blonde
I prefer Sushia for lunch over dinner as its bento boxes come with the most value for money ($35). My favourite is the grilled salmon bento box. Some may be disappointed by the tiny serving of salmon, but it is certainly packed with flavour and cooked to soft, melt-in-your-mouth perfection. Dinner options are much pricier but not entirely a waste of money as it's still refined Japenese dining. Their sashimi platter is an indulgence for sure! I didn't mind their sushi pieces also.
Nasilele Mubyana
The food at Sushia is excellent. There are a lot of Japanese dishes that you can select off of the menu and if you go in a group, you can hit them all! Dinning in here is no where near similar to dinning in at any other typical Japanese restaurant. The environment coupled with the authentic Japanese cuisine makes the experience unique in itself. We dined in on a Saturday night, so as you can imagine, the poor wait staff were run off their feet. Unfortunately, a few of our dishes never came out to the table, but still made it onto our bill that we had to argue away. Regardless, I love this restaurant.
Kudokun
Expensive Japanese restaurant offering authentic high quality of Japanese food. Staffs are great and professional – very attentive and helpful too – I never need to ask for refill as the staff automatically refill them. The design of the place is also suits the price you pay; offering classy / luxurious atmosphere.<br/><br/>Came here for a Christmas function with a couple of mates. We shared some of the meal thus allowing me to try quite a number of dishes.<br/><br/>$59 Wagyu Ishiyaki is the highlight of the day, coming in only 11 thin and small slices albeit cooked to perfection on top of hot stones. If you do the math, one tiny slice of this heaven is about $5.50. Is it worth it? Hell yes. Alternatively you can opt for the Rib Eye (500gm at $49) which are equally salivating. Both meats are soft and you can alternate between 3 choices of black peppered teriyaki sauce, creamy jalapeno or spicy sauce creating different feeling at each bite.<br/><br/>The duck teppanyaki is another one of my favourite here with its rich ingredient and soft meats while only set u back at $32. <br/><br/>For the dessert, we tried the dessert platter ($42 for 4 people) which are amazing – and highly recommended. On top of this we also ordered the maccha cake which is super good (but not part of the dessert platter – hence we order separately).<br/><br/>Overall while it’s expensive, I think it’s really worth it. Recommended for big event or big date!

Quite possibly one of the worst dining disappointments I've had in a while.<br/><br/>Sushia Izakaya was never high on my "to visit" list but I agreed to do so as I had been gifted a Best Restaurants gift card. The atmosphere aims for pretentiousness but neither the food nor service followed suit.<br/><br/>The menu boasted supposedly "authentic Japanese", however the food was anything but. Admittedly I didn't try as much as there weren't very many vegetarian options, but I managed to gather enough from the reactions of my friends to know that I wasn't missing out on much.<br/>The edamame tossed in spices just tasted of oil, the lamb was overcooked, the mixed vegetable tempura included capsicum (which just didn't work in a tempura batter), the sushi roll was a failure and some of the sashimi was so chewy that my friend was forced to spit it out before choking. How embarrassing!<br/><br/>Though the only thing more embarrassing than the food was the service. No greeting upon arrival, waiters nowhere in sight (took about half an hour to flag one down to take our order), and food took a very long time to come out (to the point where we were preparing to leave without our final dishes). The male waiter in particular was extremely rude, we tried to get his attention at one point and even though he spotted us, he proceeded to look in the other direction whilst walking directly past.<br/><br/>The total was $220 or so between three people, which I thought was exorbitant for the low level of food and service.<br/><br/>The only thing preventing me from giving this place the dismal rating of 1 is that we enjoyed the sake. They did have a half decent drinks menu, but that alone isn't nearly enough to redeem the rest of the evening's mishaps. Never again, even if one did pay me another $100 to dine there.

An amazing Japanese restaurant.  <br/>We booked a table of 6 (5Ad & 1Ch), and we ordered the 'Omakase 1' set menu...plus I just had to order the Gyoza as well.  There was not one thing we could fault about Sushia Izakaya and cannot wait to go there again.  <br/>It has a great ambience, staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious.  Even my 3yo son enjoyed the lot.
Isabella
Beautiful restaurant setting with great ambience. Service was attentive and we were well looked after all evening.<br/><br/>Ordered the gyoza for entree and hot soft shell crab for main, which were both beautiful. Soft shell crab serving was very small (even with rice as a side). My main came out and sat on the table for about 10 minutes while waiting for our friends dishes. I had to send it back to be warmed, and was told that this specific dish is cooked separately so would come out first. For the caliber of restaurant you would expect them to factor this in to their kitchen so all meals come out at once.<br/><br/>Great wine list to compliment a beautiful meal
Peanutbutt
Food was awesome! The sashimi was so Fresh and l the other dishes was amazing! You grilled the beef on a hot stone and eat it with sake (hot/cold) depends on your preferences its divine! Will definitely come back. Of course for the great food like this you gotta be willing to pay abit more :)
Kevin
Place is nice, food nice but seriously over priced and portions are very small. Need to address the idea of value for money, if you want your customers to keep coming back!
A Mac
Another top-notch Japanese restaurant here in Perth. The food came out quickly and everything was really tasty! Garlic fried rice had a bit too much oil (tasted like butter?) and the tempura wasn't the best I've had... However the sushi definitely made up for it! We ordered the salmon aburi and the salmon avo and both were exceptionally fresh and delicious. They were perfectly sized to eat in one bite too. Would definitely drop by again when we rack up enough points to redeem the $50 voucher!
Fiona Evans
The signature sushi nigiri dishes were to die for. Beef tataki melted in the mouth. Fish was the freshest. Possibly the best Japanese food I've eaten in Perth and with a fantastic wine list full of the perfect wines to drink with Japanese food. All the dishes were beautifully presented and with perfect timing. Very highly recommended!
Matthew Doyle
The food was glorious, the sea bass was particularly special, but the service was understaffed for the attempted quality of the venue, annoyingly so as it became the focus of the night for many periods of time where the focus should've been the cracking food the kitchen was punching out, its a shame really.<br/>
Kim Truong
Amazing Amazing Amazing..... Service was great, food was amazing and the food just melted in your mouth. We would definitely come back. It is a bit pricey however we had a $50 Voucher to use towards dinner but it was worth every penny

We are spoilt for choice when it comes to Japanese restaurants in Perth. There are really good ones and some really dodgy ones too! The good ones tend to be those that are helmed by a head/executive chef of Japanese origin. <br/><br/>What is awesome in my humble opinion is the high quality sashimi grade seafood we have access to! Granted we don't have the more exotic stuff like surf clam, ark shell, penn shell, abalone, fugu or the same fish varieties served in Japan. But we make up for it by how fresh the fish is here! <br/><br/>I love the sashimi served at Sushia! The sashimi moriawase is one of the prettiest and well presented platter I've ever come across. Certainly has a wow factor! Every other dish pales into insignificance once you've ordered the moriawase lol. I wish they had chirashi sushi on offer as not many places here have them. <br/><br/>The lotus chips are crispy and morish. The tempura dishes are very lightly battered and crispy. The barbecued yuzu duck is tasty and so is the wagyu gyoza. <br/><br/>Can't comment on the prawns or other Crustacea dishes as I'm allergic to them.
Cassie Tanadi
Small average tasting servings, expensive price. Best part of the night was the sashimi platter, the sashimi was really fresh! everything else was pretty average. Their gyozas tasted like ones out of the Chinese shop packets. We also found a long white hair in our fried rice which really put us off the food. Didn't have a great experience.
Lunchalicious
Fresh & delicious, everything I expected from a Japanese restaurant. Ambiance & atmosphere were amazing & the long wood tables were perfect for a large group. Service was attentive although the lunch crowd wasn't overly busy. Loved it & will be back
Evline_v
This place slowly becoming one of my favourite Japanese restaurants. Always have amazing food here! I love the beef tataki and soft shell crab watermelon salad! The rolls are also delicious and the sashimi is super fresh! A good variety of sake compliments the meal very well. Ask staff for recommendation.
Sybarite
Food is tasty enough but small and over priced. Chocolate dessert is very good but is $18 really necessary, especially if you're still hungry at the end of your meal. And a serving of rice is $12. Service was hit and miss. One lovely, helpful and very pleasant Japanese girl alongside a somber girl who thawed off slightly during the course of the evening. Overall, you spend $70 per person and leave still hungry.

To celebrate a close friend's birthday, I decided to bring her to Sushia for dinner. It was my first time after hearing lots of good things for a long time (yup - I'm definitely late in the game!). <br/><br/>Took me a while to find the entrance but thankfully I managed to locate it with the help of a group of Japanese businessmen - when in doubt, follow the crowd! <br/><br/>The menu reminds me of Nobu and the open style kitchen and understated decor was a good start. <br/><br/>The sashimi was divinely fresh - such sweet scallops! And the fried share of the scallops were my favourite of the night. I missed a photo of the unagi fried rice but boy that was packed full of flavour too (and very filling!). <br/><br/>Dessert was a special on the menu and the fondant was surprisingly light and the cotton candy a very nice touch. <br/><br/>Service was excellent during mealtime but somewhat dissolved into thin air after dessert. We waited more than 15 mins and flagging 2 waitstaff before we gave up on waiting for the bill and went to pay at the counter. <br/><br/>Nevertheless we left with a happy and satisfied tummy and memories of a great night of catching up!
TheBearReview
Meh. It was nice but for the price you expect better. Yes the restaurant is done very nicely, but there are no toilets?! The sashimi was fresh and beautifully presented, but expensive. The beef tataki was very good too, but lacks the wow factor and again, expensive. Nice place to bring people, but then I rather go to Nobu for a little bit more.
Nix
We had some trouble finding this place as the address is for the entire business complex it's in, but after exploring the outside laneways we successfully located it. <br/>Given its' location, it is suitably slick, modern and well suited to the business types that frequent it, and also a nice, classy place for dinner. <br/>There is an extensive beverage menu including a variety of enjoyable Japanese liqueurs, plum wines and sakes.<br/>We ordered the agedashi tofu and bento boxes, and were very pleased with the freshness and quality of the food. Out of curiousity, for dessert we tried the unusual tofu cheesecake - beautifully presented, and a refreshing take on a classic.

I love sushia! Whether I want to grab a quick lunch, go down for a few drinks or have a nice dinner, Sushia never disappoint.<br/><br/>Starting with lunch, the bento box are fairly priced and the portion is quite generous. The sashimi are the best I have ever tried (and I am a bit of a sushiAholic), better than Nobu and better than a few fine dining Japanese restaurants I have eaten at in London. I woudl recommend to anyone who works in the city andneed to grab a quick but satisfying lunch!<br/><br/>Onto the drinks... The selection of sake, wine and sparkling is spot on! There is a lot of premium spirits to choose from, which I like and usually hard to get hold of in the bar scene in Perth. Have I mentioned that I am a huge fan of sushi? Well, I like cocktails even more.... If you are after fresh, flavoursome and well balanced drink, you must go there! The manager is always friendly and welcoming and knows his industry relly well!<br/><br/>Dinner is often busy so I would recommend booking to avoid disappointment. The quality of food is excellent, the soft shell crab and watermelon salad is a must, so refreshing andbeautifully paired with a yummy dressing. As previously mentioned, the sashimi are divine and surprisingly, the desserts are heavenly which is not always the case in Japanese restaurants...<br/><br/>Overall, Sushia is a great venue to try and really versatile! It's definitely up there with Nobu and I actually prefer some dishes at Sushia. The setting and atmosphere is really nice and the staff lovely although the service is not constant and can be up or down sometimes.<br/><br/>I think this is my venue crush in Perth so far! Thumbs up Sushia :)
JZ
Absolutely love this place!!! Main chef of Nobu, creating his own restaurant and I have to say, food is potentially better than Nobu, however in a slightly more casual atmosphere. Whilst still an upper class restaurant, with a fairly expensive price tag on the food, quality of the food is to die for, and have never walked out disappointed! Favourite Japanese restaurant in Perth by a mile!
Aburi Salmon Nigiri 5eva
Oh my god the salmon skewers are amazing. Absolutely to die for. Definitely do not skip trying them! They also have a good cocktail list. Nice ambience. Try any of their beef dishes, always perfectly cooked. Service can be slow at times though.
Emz
Heard it was started by ex nobu chefs. Tried their set course lunch and sashimi. Sashimi is fresh and melts in your mouth. Japan modern fusion. Not the typical Japanese food. Each dish present upon the finishing of the course you had. Nice ambience. Pricey since fine dining but worth the dining experience. So worth going ok special occasions. <br/><br/>Tried their dinner menu as well. I must say the karaage chicken was not that fantastic in my opinion.<br/><br/>So if you want a nice Japanese food dining experience - head there ! But be prepared for the cost. <br/><br/><br/>
GraceEmelia1
Beautiful tempura. And fantastic cocktails reasonable prices and good casual fine dining vibes ✌️would defo come again . Helpful staff and nice setting
Matt
Nice looking venue and good location. Food is not too bad, modern Japanese, but slightly over priced. Food presentation is amazing however. Would recommend for large groups.

I believe this is the premier Japanese cuisine restaurant in my books in Perth. I've eaten at some of the best of the best in Perth and this tops it all. More Details Photos further below. The Scientist and I celebrated the eight years that we’ve been tied to each other. We wanted to do something different and exciting. I said no to ‘a dinner and a movie’ because I didn’t want to waste 2 hours sitting silently next to the love of my life as we watch a movie that only one of us is into. Not on our wedding anniversary. Yes we complete each other but that also means we’re a lot alike and also a lot different! The one thing we both definitely would ditch our child with the in-laws for is Japanese food, preferably raw. Sushia Izakaya & Bar stood out on the Brookfield Place directory because of my love for Japanese food, highly likely because of the fish and because I’m originally from the tropics where we would eat fish every single day of the week. I can confirm that we had an amazing nigh

Food is pricey as suspected from the location. It is not bad, good atmosphere. Nothing really stood out from the place. First time I got the dego, definitely a no no, it was bland and unappealing. I could get something elsewhere for 10% the price

Poor Service... Nothing new for Perth. First time to the restaurant on a Friday night around 7pm and we were able to sit in bar area. Perfect. We ordered a glass of wine each and a bunch of plates to share. The table next to us left as we arrived and their table was not cleared for the rest of the evening...<br/> When we ordered a second round the drinks never came and we finished the last of our food..We waited for a while to ask the server for the bill but that never happened so we went to the cashier to pay. Upon receiving the bill, we had two bottles of wine erroneously added to our bill (an extra $170). Must have been from the table next to us.... We had to review the bill and advise the staff what we had ordered - they were clueless. The person charging our card didn't seem to care about the poor service we received (especially when we reiterated we did not receive our second round of drinks). There was a man behind the counter, Ray, whose excuse was "it's a Friday night" - pathetic. Sad to say he must have been the manager if not the owner. Poor service. Will not return.

Excellent green tea icecream. Sushia Izakaya is okay but a little noisy for my taste. The food generally is of good quality without being outstanding. It is almost value for money but for the money I'd rather eat Japanese or Japanese fusion elsewhere. The old Izakaya Sakura in Northbridge was superior. This review is more to give a special mention for the Korean lady who makes the desserts. Her matcha icecream was excellent. Fresh, bitter and creamy. I have eaten a lot of green tea products in Kyoto and Japan generally and she is good.
Kittyandbunnyadventures
The stand-out dish of the night was the Soft Shell Crab Salad – the one we were searching for! Combining the fried soft shell crab with watermelon created a great salty-sweet, textured combination that was adventurous...
Chris Degenaar
Pathetic service! Took 20 minutes to get a drinks order never mind food!

The food is fantastic and we would return for that. Service by the service staff was also superb and made our dinner an acceptable experience. We were very put off by the initial question when we arrived, posed by someone who seemed like the manager, which was whether we will leave the restaurant in 1.5 hours. It seemed that if we replied that we'd stay longer, they would not seat us for our 6:30 pm reservation. He said we needed to leave by then because they had another reservation at 8 pm and needed our table of two. This was ludicrous because when we left at 8 pm, there were 2 tables of two and 5 tables of four that were available, not to mention about six seats at their communal table. In any case, that was the low point of the evening. Again, we'd go back for the food.

Simply orgasmic!!!!! Staf.... Simply orgasmic!!!!!<br/><br/>Staff are always great and friendly ... Food always hits the mark

Wonderful food. Was very happy with the wonderful food and service on Saturday night. The watermelon and soft shell crab was amazing. <br/>Only downer was lack of information given with regard to seating. I booked on line and was called on Friday afternoon to confirm, at no time was I told we would have shared seating.... Didn't want to share my wedding anniversary dinner with strangers so took the "well you can sit outside" option.<br/>Watermelon martini is worthy of its price tag
N_M
We used to be regulars but the service and quality have changed for the worse. Booked dinner for 8.15 and were told to sit at the bar as they were full, got seated closer to 9pm. Waited 15mins and no menus, good luck trying to flag a waitstaff as none of them would make eye contact. We weren't offered water or drinks and finally ordered after about half an hour after being seated. Our meals came not in order, appetisers were served after mains, a few dishes did not get delivered at all, and all of the dishes that we used to order regularly had noticeably declined in size and quality. $18 for a tiny portion of garlic rice when previously it was a full bowl that could be shared, the steaks had significantly shrunk and the tempura which was once the best in Perth was floury and tasteless. Not impressed and we won't be back, which is a shame as this used to be a much loved regular amongst us.<br/><br/><br/>-----11 Jan, 2015-----<br/><br/>One of our favourites. Consistently delicious food, friendly service and amazing cocktails. The crab and watermelon salad is always a standout, and there quite a few options for vegetarians which is refreshing to have a choice! Will be returning again!
Cameron
Not a great experience tonite, food was good but the service let it down badly. Very disappointed and won't be returning.
Ralphy
Over Rated, they didn't even give us our change!. If you are in for ear bashing and shouting to your friends during dinner then this is the place for it!<br/>We went there friday night and the music choice and volume was similar to a nightclub. It was so loud and in your face. We had to shout at each other to be heard.<br/>The food is ok. There isn't really anything inspirational about the food, its the same old japanese fare nicely presented. The food is fresh but you do pay for it!<br/>If you are not into seafood then there isn't much choice too.<br/>The service however by the wait staff were exceptional.<br/>However the cashier staff were rude and ignored us. They didn't even give us our change after we paid the bill. Ok it was $4 but i thought it was rude not to even offer it.<br/>There are better choices to go to. We won't be back.
Kat_bg
Great food, appalling service. A group of friends and I went out for dinner at Sushia with the expectation of a great dining experience, particularly after having heard good reviews. The first of us to arrive were shown to our table and poured water. As we waited for the rest of our party to arrive, no one asked if we wanted to order any drinks. The rest of the group arrived about 10 mins later, however were not poured any water, and still no staff asked if we wanted to order anything. After another 40 mins passed and we still hadn't been attended to, even after trying to catch multiple staff members attention and making eye contact with a few who continued to walk past quickly, we tried to wave someone down. A few minutes later we finally managed to ask someone if we could order drinks, this however was answered by a response we could not even hear. Finally, after another 5 mins we managed to order drinks. Getting them however was another story. This took an additional 10 mins and ended up going to the table next to us who had to say "that's not ours, I thinks it's theirs" pointing over to us, however the barman didn't look over, instead taking the bottle of wine back to the bar and checking over the computer. Another 5 mins passed and we finally got them. We managed to ask if we could order some food. This was easier, although the waitress asked if we wanted the sashimi first followed by the rest so we said yes. This first two things to come out were not sashimi, not too much of an issue. The food was great, although small serves considering the price. It was going smoothly until it came to ordering sake. We asked for three different types of sake in the small cup serve, however were presented with three carafes instead...a bit more than we expected, but considering the length of time we had to wait for one bottle of wine we stuck with it, although they weren't finished. We also ordered some green tea, they were out of the jasmine, that was fine, but the pot of tea we were surprised to hear cannot be shared, it's only for one (although it doesn't specify this on the menu). So we just got the one, which turned up with a very large cup that we managed to fill about 2 1/2 times and was in fact enough to share. We didn't bother with dessert. Who knew five people could be so much trouble? We all expected a far higher standard, particularly given the restaurant was at 1/3 to 1/2 it's capacity. The quality of the food is great, but they need to match it with their service, particularly when charging quite steep prices for small serves. Really need to lift their game.<br/><br/><br/>-----13 Nov, 2014-----<br/><br/>Great food, appalling service. Appalling!!!. My husband and I dine out frequently and love Japanese food. We looked on Urbanspoon and decided to give this place a go. On Friday 3 October my husband made a reservation for two at 6pm through Dimmi and received a confirmation email. My husband then received a phone call midday from the Restaurant advising that they were fully booked at 6pm and if it was ok to push our reservation back to 7:45pm. Upon arriving at 7:45pm the lady was extremely rude and said your booking was at 6pm and you didn't show up. My husband tried to explain that we received a phone call regarding change in time and showed her the his phone log on his mobile. She proceeded to tell us that the phone call was only to confirm not to change. She also stated " we don't take 7:45pm bookings" umm that's the strangest thing I've heard especially since the online booking system allows you to choose various times. In any case it was the way the restaurant went about it. If it was a misunderstanding then that's fine but she kept arguing, why would we turn up at 7:45pm at 6pm as that would have been a better time for us anyway? I guess she thought my husband made the whole thing up?? Not sure but it was absolutely weird. I've never had an experience like this at any restaurant. The restaurant was half empty when we were there but she wasn't sure if she could accommodate us. This just made me more frustrated and we ended up walking out. We contacted one of our regular, fave restaurants - Midori and they told us to come down and we had a delicious dinner there. They never disappoint and what was a horrible start to the night ended up being great. Sushia Izakaya you need to learn what good service is from restaurants like Midori that have been around for years!!! I can't tell you how the food is but the other reviews regarding service seems legit after our very own experience. I will never set foot in this place again.

Dinner. Had a delicious dinner tonight - all food was presented exceptionally well. Great value for money. Fried eggplant not the best on the menu but ok- sashimi platter tasted very fresh. Spicey edamame could be spicier. The pancake was savoury delisious and very well presented. The garnishes took all dishes to another level.

Spicy Creamy Crab was amazing!. This was my second time around with some friends. The food was great espescially the special of the day; spicy creamy crab. It was all de-shelled so not messy to eat and sooo soo good! Service, I'll admit, was short. It appeared they were slightly understaffed for a relatively quiet Tuesday night.

Good food; poor service. Had to ask for our ordered edamame four times (it ended up coming well after our other starters)<br/>Hard to get the attention of any staff<br/>There are clearly staff that only deliver food to the table and can not take orders<br/>Not enough information from staff when asking about dishes<br/>Sashimi was fresh and delicious<br/>Pork gyoza and beef gyoza - some of the best I have had<br/>$4 per 'taco' that was literally a bite size (as big as my little finger) was a total rip off<br/>Would go back - the food was nice, nice ambience - service needs an overhaul

Impressed!. We went for a Tuesday night dinner with four of us. I was very impressed with the sophisticated and trendy fit-out of the restaurant and loved the open view of the huge kitchen. Service was attentive and not over-bearing - the menu was explained well and our drinks were kept topped-up. The large menu is designed to share which is great as it allows you to try many dishes. We ordered the Sashimi Mariawase and the Gyu Tataki for entrees. The Sashimi was beautiful and came out looking like a work of art. Everything was exceedingly fresh and tasty and the tataki was also well presented and tasty with some interesting condiments. For mains we shared the soft shell crab salad which was a generous portion, and very tasty, the Agadashi tofu which was the best I've ever had, and from the Teppanyaki menu we had the Duck which was slightly tough but had a delicious marinade. The Gindara Faiikyo Yaki (cod) was easily the dish of the night - it fell apart and the miso marinate was beautiful, from the hot section we also enjoyed the Takoyaki. We tried two very interesting desserts, the tofu cheesecake and the banana and red bean dish - both were interesting and delicious and a nice way to end to meal. We enjoyed some hot sake and a bottle of Pikes Tradition Riesling as well. All in all it was a great experience and we enjoyed every dish - I am keen to try the rest of the menu and will definitely be back!

Great ambience, friendly service, food comes out quickly and it's top quality cuisine. The price is good too for the quality. The raw sashimi platter was fresh and full of flavour, the vegetarian dishes artfully served and well prepared. Very impressed with this place.

Good service, decent food- definitely a poor mans Nobu. Very polite host & friendly service... Empty water glasses a couple times but not bad at all. Delicious pork tacos.... Might go back for the tacos!

This restaurant is by far the best japanese restaurant in term of food quality! It's food is even better than the one star awarded restaurant like Nine Fine food, & Halu. However if you don't have sensitive taste bud, Sushia Izakaya is not for you because it will draw you back by its price. Must try dishes are Soft shell crab salad & Gyu Tataki.

Has atmosphere and the food to match. Love this place. Had a show at the Convention Centre, so wandered over into town beforehand to find somewhere for dinner. Would probably have walked right by if I hadn't seen some other people go in. You can't see the restaurant from outside, and the entry way isn't really inviting. But really glad we wandered in. We didn't have a booking, but they could seat us a table for two if we were out by a certain time, and we were happy with that. The waitress was really sweet. She explained the restaurant's concept of sharing plates, so we looked at the menu to find dishes that we would both like. We chose the Japanese style peppered squid, crispy lotus chips, deep fried marinated chicken, and seared beef with garlic chips. All delicious. The dishes came out separately, and quickly. But not too quickly. We had enough time to eat each dish with a small wait before the next dish came. The atmosphere is low light, stark lines and textures, very clean looking. There is a big communal table running down one side. The kitchen is open to the restaurant which gives the place a busy vibe. I'll definitely be back.

Fast and delicious. I just returned from a quick impromptu lunch at Sushia and walked away very impressed. My friend and I were pressed for time so felt limited for options, we decided to try Sushia. We started with the agadasho tofu and polenta chips, the agadashi tofu was just delicious and the polenta chips and crispy and tasy served with some sort of chilli mayonaise. We ordered the teriyaki salmon and fish bento for mains and both were very generous portions. The salmon was crispy on the outside and juicy in the middle, just fell apart on your fork. The whole meal was great and ill definitely be back.

DO NOT LISTEN TO BAD REVIEWS!!!! This was the best night I have had in Perth! Amazing food and amazing drinks and a reasonable price. Good service but could do with a couple more wait staff as you had to grab their attention, but it was a big deal since everything else was superb! WAY better than Nobu! Will be returning!!

OK japanese food, 7/10. I Love Japanese food who doesn't , The moment you walk into this place you know its going to be expensive<br/>thats Ok if its exceptional, the problem is "its just good", so no real complaints it just isn't any better food than other japanese restaurants just a bit prettier than most. We were sat at a communial bench <br/>The experience cost over 200 on food + a good bottle of wine which by the glass was nearly as cheap as the tea @ 5 per cup, my local japanese has no need to worry about losing my business, This venue just to pricey for a basement located restaurant with bench seats.<br/><br/>Venue 7/10<br/>Food 7/10<br/>service 7/10

Been previously and was great but apprehensive going again after recent reviews. Went again yesterday and was still fantastic food, drink and service all good. Took some friends and they loved it also. Highly recommended

Better check the reviews before trying ..... We should've checked the reviews here before we tried this restaurant instead of just checking the percentage of the likes (thought 81% was a good sign) as we did not really get what we paid for at Sushia.<br/>The restaurant was fancy but that was the only positive. The food was pretty average and very expensive for what it was. Crispy crab wasn't too bad but Scallops in spicy dashi ankake sauce(?) was a joke. The scallops were dipped in this overpowering sauce and we could barely taste them. We also ordered some rice & miso soup to go with our mains, which we had to remind our waiter a couple of time and did not arrive till we almost finished our meals. <br/>Well, it was a good lesson, I guess. We're gonna check actual reviews here before trying a restaurant from now on!
Iggy
Very cool .... And very yummy!!. Firstly I am surprised to see a string of bad reviews for this place?! We went as a group of four and we all agreed it was very cool, with a great vibe and atmosphere. The waitress who served us was fantastic and the food was amazing!!
Sssf
Fairly average. Had a meal before the Michael Buble concert with 10 others most meals were just ok two were well below average i ended up with soggy pepper squid and my partner didn't receive her meal till the whole table had finished [her meal had been given to another person] comments to wait staff fell on deaf ears with a smile. Pricey for below average meal and drinks very pricey<br/>Great atmosphere for a bar but would i go back again most probably not

Think twice!! Overpriced and poor service. Sushia has Nobu's price tag but the food quality is probably slightly better than Taka's in my humble opinion. We ordered soft shell crab sushi and it is so hard to grab the sushi using the chopsticks. The sushi crumbled on my plate and it is just really messy to eat. We did inform the waitress of this but were told that the sushi chef is on holiday. I don't think this is acceptable reason at all because we were only told after the event and a restaurant should maintain its food quality regardless of staffs absence. We also sampled pork gyoza which we could taste no flavours other than strong raw garlic taste. They should put a sign at their restaurant stating that nothing is free here! Our sushi doesn't come with wasabi so we asked for it. We were charged $1 for this. I am very very disappointed with the food quality and the service I received, I cannot recommend this place. I urge you all to think twice before going to Sushia. I personally think that Kanta, Hanami, Satsuki, Nobu and etc do a much much better job than Sushia.

Pretty Average. We're a big fan of Izakaya Den in Melbourne (if you ever go there, this is a must-try one!) where authentic Japanese food and a massive selection of Sake/Shochu is offered, and were expecting something similar from Sushia as the place also offers Izakaya-style food and drinks. <br/>To be frank, it was far from it. First off, there was little atmosphere at this restaurant. The open kitchen, that's about it. There was little excitement or vibe there. The food was ... average but the prices were pretty high for its quality and quantity. The drink list has some Sake/Shochu listed but it was a bit dull and could be improved. The service was good and the waiters were attentive but there was little engagement between us. <br/>Overall, it was nothing to write home about. Pretty disappointing, really. It was probably our least favourite Izakaya style restaurant so far.
Cristine
Worst Japanese restaurant in CBD. Food is not tasty and over pricy and Servce also slow <br/>Can't understand !!<br/>Wouldn't back again

Consistently fantastic and accommodating service from staff and management. Delicious and flavoursome meals. Highly recommend Sushia Izakaya for any special occasions, business lunches and dinners or simply a great fine dining experience.
Lex
Not bad, but bot up to the standard you would expect from the price tag. Trying too hard to be hip with some weird flavour combos.
Mondo
Not a big fan. We have tried several Izakaya style restaurants and were very excited to try Sushia Perth. However, it turned out to be a not-so-great dining experience.<br/><br/>For a Izakaya & Bar, we were very disappointed that their Sake & Shochu list was rather limited and uninspiring. <br/>Food was okay but quite pricey for what it was. <br/>The waitress who served our table was nice and friendly though we found it rather difficult to grab her attention as it was fairly busy and we eventually had to stand up and wave at her to ask for the bill.<br/><br/>Overall, it was pretty average and disappointing to say the least.<br/>Not looking forward to going back to this place too soon :(

Good CBD lunch. Dark and classy atmosphere in a cool, shady bar tucked away under Brookfield Plaza. Good food, not far off Nobu quality but a lot easier on the wallet. Had a business lunch with a friend, close to the office and all done within an hour.<br/><br/>We shared 5 small dishes and we left feeling full; vegetable and prawn tempura was good and the chicken yakitori was full of flavour. The gyu tataki was incredible, great sauce and melt in the mouth. The bento boxes on the table next to us looked very generous so might try that next time. Only $60 each with a glass of wine. Really friendly staff however it wasn't too busy.

My new favourite Japanese restaurant!. Awesome! Delicious! Great atmosphere!<br/><br/>Food is soooo good and beautifully presented. worth every dollar spent!<br/><br/>Will definitely be back!
Bree
So delicious! Sashimi was really fresh. The dishes are different to normal Japanese dishes. Will come back again for sure

Not worth it. This place comes with big reputation and prices to match but did not deliver on any level. Service was slow, I'm talking 25 minutes for drinks and the food that came out was super average. Do not get drawn into the myth that the restaurant is Nobu-esque, it is not even close.
Maggie Sun
Service was fast. But the food had nothing for compliment. They didn't even use JP rice for the sushi, the rice was dry n had no hint of vinigar in it. The mains were even worse. The scollops were STEWED with mixed vege, very weird n icky. The miso cod was too sweet, enough to make me feel like vomiting. And the cod was over cooked, instead of melting in the mouth, it's more like stuck in the teeth. Besides, the whole meal didn't give me the impression of JP food at all, so not authentic.
Michelle Anne
Not so great. Don't bother if you are wanting a quiet table and a conversation. This place has shocking accoustics and is incredibly noise. We needed a torch to read our menu. Food was ok - but over priced. it was possibly even beautifully presented but we couldn't see as it was so dark. Could have been a wonderful experience but too much is wrong with this place.
Cintakay
Wouldn't go back if I could help it. We got sat facing the kitchen away from the rest of the restaurant which we were not informed about upon confirming the booking and got bitten by bugs of some sort there. The service is terrible and waitresses are not freely available if you want to ask them anything extra, they definitely need improvement in my opinion and the food was average. Has potential to be such a great place to eat but does not fulfil it.
Maverick
It's ok.. It was an ok night. The food was nice. The service was night. I was a bit puzzled as to why we got seated facing the kitchen when we had booked a proper table. The cocktails were a bit disappointing given the high price. Wouldn't go back as it was just ok, but definitely not offensive and nothing hugely right or wrong about it.

Fabulous. Dined here awhile back before a concert and forgot to review! This place is excellent and comes highly recommended.<br/><br/>The front looks like a bar but hidden around the corner is bench style seating or traditional table and chairs.<br/><br/>Service is sublime and the girl who waited on us was very friendly yet professional and was happy to explain the menu and how it worked. <br/><br/>Ordered the Kaiso salad (4 different kinds of seaweed), pork gyoza, takoyaki balls, the eye fillet and the creamy trio of scallops. <br/><br/>The food was great and the traditional choices, the gyoza and takoyaki balls were very authentic. The gyoza was properly panfried and steamed and had a lovely juicy filling. The salad was fresh and interesting and we tried all four individually before mixing them up as suggested by our waitress. My husband and I both enjoyed the eye fillet, it was melt in your mouth meat. The only thing I wasn't so keen on was the scallops. Interesting flavours but a bit too fusion/creamy for my liking.<br/><br/>All up, a great place to dine in for Japanese food. Will definitely return and try some other dishes on the menu.
Everything_burrito
Oishii ne. Very delicious. Stumbled on this place when we were hoping to try the Apple Daily Eating Hall but it was closed. <br/>Service was friendly and fast. Food was exciting and delicious - not your regular Japanese dishes. <br/>Not overly expensive if you put some thought into what you order.<br/>Can't wait to come back and sample more dishes.
Lisa
Dinner. I love this place so much. The staff are so friendly and the food is to die for!!!! Going back again as soon as we have another special occasion. Thanks to the Teppanyaki and Sushi chef you guys are stars.
Demabu
A vegan thumbs up. A specially designed menu for my partner's office Christmas party meant I had due consideration in the spread that was laid out for us, and it didn't disappoint. The edamame (a vegan's mainstay in all Japanese dining) was fresh and well-salted, and the two tofu dishes (tofu caprese and agedashi tofu) supplied were beautifully executed. The caprese in particular was excellent, playing off the freshness of the ingredients. The cooked option, kushiyaki yasai (veg in a kinoko teriyaki sauce), was lipsmacking. The vegetable maki, wrapped in daikon, was a lovely twist on the usual insipid veg sushi options. The garlic fried rice was less spectacular, but then it didn't have a great deal riding on it anyway, coming at the end of the meal. Sadly, the desserts offered weren't vegan (on the very wrong presumption, perhaps, that vegans don't eat dessert), but the cocktails were delectable. There were a few slip-ups with alcohol orders, but the service was otherwise fantastic, and we were very well taken care of. So well, in fact, that a number of us struggled to extricate ourselves from the sunken table at the end of the night. All in all, highly recommended!
Danielle
Went here last night. Food had so much incredible flavour. Beef skewers were heavenly the meat was something so tender and flavoursome. Miso soup was delicious, rib eye was so tasty! I had the chicken teppinyaki which was also very tender and delicious. The vegetable skewer was my only criticize. For $5 i would have liked a little more vegetables. But the service was really good and i will be back for sure. Welldone to the chef here he knows his stuff! I will have dreams about this food again im sure!
Nis
Liked but not loved. Don't get me wrong the food was amazing but for the price I was probably expecting little bit more special. Service was good as was the setting and a pretty good wine list. But still rate Halu in Mount Hawthorn as the best Japanese food in town. Sushia definitely a close second though.
Sinead
Good food. Good fresh food. Nothing overly exciting happening with the sushimi (though still delicious). The rib eye was absolutely to die for and perfectly cooked. The fried lotus was delicious as well. Dessert was surprisingly good - tofu cheesecake? Not what I was expecting but yum! Would go again, but it isn't Nobu!
Gobbledok
I visited here for lunch. I like nobu but this is another great Japanese restaurant in the city. Food was delicate and flavoursome, good value for the money. <br/>Although Waiters were helpful and always smile, unfortunately, only the manager with blond hair might not know how to greet to their customer...
Ed
Fantastic service from the minute you walk in. Every dish has that slight twist that makes you want to ask for recipe. Magnificent.
MR T
Great (tad expensive). Really enjoyed the food here.... Been twice and has not disappointed
Snr24
Went there on a tuesday night with my boyfriend and it was honestly fantastic - loved every dish. we had 2 cold / raw dishes and the prawn tepinyaki and creamy trio, along with the seasame & green tea ice cream which was excellent! the waitsperson was so informative and lovely, girl at the front a little cold compared to the lovely japanese waitstaff. great setting and ambience, really good spot for a special occassion. my new favourite japanese restaurant. the individual items arn't expensive by perth standards but you do need several dishes as they are small, the staff do explain this. loved it!
MT198
Great food, poor service. We really can't fault the food, everything we ordered was very good, but the service was very poor, we waited 26 minutes before we placed our order & three dishes came out before our drinks, which we ordered first, which we found to be quite odd, anywhere else the drinks would usually come out before any food. Sake came after we asked twice where it was & wine after we asked for the third time what had happened to it. Could be a lot better.
Elizabeth Melendez
Amazing! The staff was super friendly and the food was excelent!

Wonderful atmosphere, very attentive wait staff & a great selection of food.<br/><br/>Sensational!

Yum. Great food and love the sashimi platter! nice twist on the nobu menu. A must try location
PerthFoodSnob
Love love love.. Service was very attentive and food was delicious. We had to wait for our table seeing as we didn't make a booking but they sat us down and gave us a cocktail and appetiser menu. We ordered our cocktails and before finishing we were seated at a communal table. The table was friendly and the atmosphere was buzzing on a Friday night. We ordered a few dishes to share and the watier continuously topped up our water and asked if we needed anything more. The share dishes came out quickly and upon finishing it was always cleared for the next dish to arrive. Menu is quite pricey but to be expected when dining in Brookfield. I would definitely go back for the Kingfish sashimi and top-notch service.

Went there for my bday with my other half. Abit on the expensive side with our bill over $200 but it was worth try and spoilt by the choices of variety of dishes. I was impressed especially with their dessert!
Fred
Ambience is great, service isn't good (got there 10 mins late and table not ready, went to bar, they forgot about us, waitresses standing around chatting oblivious to tables), menu hard to follow and very expensive for what it is. Didn't have at least 3 bottles of Sake on the menu which was frustrating.

Superb. First time ever visiting sushia for dinner after hearing a great deal about it, thoroughly enjoyed my experience. loved the location, decor and ambience. staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious. we had the couple of maki rolls to start, followed by the duck breast, teriyaki and toothfish, and then an ice cream desert, all of which we enjoyed very very much. sushia's definitely pricier than your average japanese restaurant but we thought it was well worth it. would definitely return..most probably soon.
Heeino
Been here twice before and enjoyed it. (Must be due to not having the young blonde front counter girl being so rude!) Came here tonight and must say service was appalling, especially the girl who was at the front counter. Asked for a seat to eat and said there was the bar in which was extremely uncomfortable due to low positioning so we asked to sit in front of the chefs as we did not want to sit in another table to be shared with another couple. Quite low class if you ask me. The seating in front of chef was not reserved and nobody sitting there. Work close by and will no longer recommend due to poor service!!!
Savannah
Overpriced. Had to pay 1.5% surcharge for using credit card despite spending a large amount for the bill. Sashimi was fresh and desert was good. Dumplings were terrible.
Apitchaya
Love the concept but not the price.. Braving the winter chill, my partner and I checked out Sushia at Brookfield Place recently. The decor is modern, simple and spacious. Love the long table! I totally agree that Perth is ready for long table dining concept. <br/><br/>The crowd is a good mix of couples, power brokers and groups of friends. The staff are all very pleasant and smiling. They also know their food and sake! Thumbs up!<br/><br/>The waitresses serving my table was really good. They were able to recommend me the sake and explain a little on the origin of the sake I chose. But after picking one of the fruity sake, I was told that due to shipping issue, the sake is not available. This is not a biggie for me as the sake list is quite extensive. I proceeded on the waitress' recommendation to go with the Bishonen.<br/><br/>Feeling like a little bit of this and that, we went on to order an array of cold and hot dishes. We ordered the Smoked Wagyu, Hamachi Carpaccio, Oyster Trio, Kushiyaki Tori and Salted Trout. Unfortunately, five minutes later, we were informed that both the Smoked Wagyu and Salted Trout are unavailable. We find this strange as given that Sushia aims to be an upmarket tapas and izakaya restaurant, surely everything on the menu must be available. We proceeded to order the Rib Eye and Duck. <br/><br/>Food wise, the Hamachi Carpaccio is very nice. The Duck was way too sweet with the yuzu sauce. The Rib Eye cooked nicely - medium rare - but the three sauces were simply mediocre. The oysters were disappointing in taste but presentation-wise, WOW, WOW, WOW! <br/><br/>Given that it was a rainy night, we were feeling a bit more peckish than usual As a result, we went on to order the Tori Karaage, Chicken Yakitori and Ebi Maki. They were ordinary. Nothing to rave about taste-wise except that the karaage came well presented in a masu box. <br/><br/>Wrapping up the evening meal, we shared a Yuzu Parfait that comes with a serve of green tea ice cream. The dessert was really good. Almost the highlight of the meal! <br/><br/>In summary, Sushia has the atmosphere and customer service down to a pat. But the food is the weakest link here. Damage for the evening including the carafe of sake was about $200 in total.<br/><br/>Would I go back? Maybe but not in a hurry. May head over to Shiro instead.
Hippokathy88
Okay food, great dessert. I came here for an early birthday celebration and the dishes were hit and miss. Our spider sushi roll was disappointing as the rice was bland and dry, the soft shell crab was soggy, and the roll just tasted nothing special. The beef tataki however was top notch. We were very happy with our desserts too, they helped us forgive a few bad other dishes. Loved that tofu cheese cake!

Average Jap Food with Extra Chrages. I went to Sushia with my friend after I’ve heard the review it was good. The service was good. We ordered the Sake Usuzukuri and the Bento Box that comes with Sushi and Sashimi, it was average just like any other Japanese restaurant but I have higher expectation since alot of my friends mentioned it was good. Unfortunatelly, I think they are just average.<br/><br/>When we requested for an extra wasabi we were charge an extra $1 for the small extra dish of wasabi – which I think in a Japanese restaurant when we request extra wasabi we shouldn’t be charged for it. When I went up to pay for the bill the lady at the counter told me that if I want to pay with my credit card, I will be charge an extra 1.5% I wasn’t please at all just for the reason, most restaurants that I’ve went to had never asked for extra charge. Normally, Amex they will charge extra. I wasn’t pleased to hear that just for the main reason that they shouldn’t charge that at all.

Nice food but wait staffs need to be better trained.

Amazing food. Went for lunch, walked in to a very dark room lit by spotlights and candles. Once you get used to it, the dark room is quite beautiful. Had the 45 dollar lunchtime degustation menu. The five courses of food were all delicious and fantastic value for money. The sashimi, pork belly and tofu cheesecake were standouts for me. Not surprised this restaurant was packed with very happy patrons.

Why bother with pretentious Nobu when you have this? Absolutely stunning food. The only negatives are the spot lights, we had to move to the central communal table as they were too bright. Also the wine list is shambles - most wines we wanted were not available and had to put up with the upswell gimmick but alas mysteriously the wine was located without us needing to dorms another $50 per bottle.

Excellent service and innovative cuisine. While some may find the variations on traditional Japanese fare a little challanging this restauraunt is fast becoming a firm favourite, not least because of the welcoming and gracious attention of all the staff from the front desk all the way through to the kitchen. Thank you for bringing the power of five to Perth and showing others what real service is all about

Food is ok but too pricey, especially for such poor service. They try hard but lack competence and attention to detail.

Awesome. Went there on a spur of the moment decision. Had the degustation menu. They substituted a couple of things for us with no hassle. Food was awesome - interesting flavours. The tooth-fish was to die for. Sashimi fresh - you could still smell the salt water on the fish. Although the deserts were your usual Japanese, done very well. Service was great - only criticism was that the degustation took a little longer than we hoped (especially on a weeknight)

Diner review - 22 June. A wonderful restaurant - great service with very knowledgable staff. The food was sensational - we had various items including pork dumplings, duck breast sushi, salt and pepper squid, chicken with teriyaki sauce, assorted tempura and Fremantle octopus with chilli su miso.

Great! pop in after work casually, impressed by atmosphere, foods and service! well decorated more likely western bar but not only just simple, but still very decent for fine dining. very liked softshell crab & minute steak plus mixed veggie~ finish up with tofu cheese cake & yuzu parfiat. will definitely visit again very soon!

Went to try the restaurant on a Monday night with three other friends who equally love Japanese food. Quite a hidden gem in the BHP complex. Good service as they really tries to up market the place. The decoration was rather Western with a Japanese name but the food is a fusion based on a traditional Japanese pub food with a twist. A generous selection of alcohol and sake selection. There are a few good dishes, such as the teppanyaki prawns, beef tataki and lotus root crisps but you might be surprised how they could also fail on some of the simple dishes, for example, the agedashi tofu and pork belly. Overall, a nice hang out place to add to the list of the new restaurants and bars at the complex.

Went for a late lunch with a few colleagues. Initially told as we hasn't booked that no lunch was available. Only light food. Anyway we only wanted normal items and were pleasantly surprised everything we wanted was on including the excellent bento, sushi and others. Degustation, fancy wagyu smoked and other items like black cod were off, but we are here for lunch not a fancy dinner! So glad we stuck and not dissuaded as every dish was brilliant. The cheffing was the best . Beautiful rice, light tempura, desserts and sake. The wait staff were all very friendly and professional and the recommended hot sake just as described. Tap water was offered and nothing taken away early. Really happy. Downsides, the black sesame icecream was in fact white chocolate, I could see that the kitchen was involved with a number of icecream makers and one italian model was being brought back. The fondant just slightly over and thick, not like Nobu. But apart from that, really enjoyable and delish. Beautiful fish, rice and drinks and service, lovely decorations, lots of bookings tonight and tomorrow. Very popular but I think it's deserved. I will be going back for dinner and to try the cocktails, can't wait for another try of some top food.

Impressed but needs improvement. The food and service was great.<br/>We tried pork belly, duck breast and rib eye steak... for dessert we had the chocolate duo.. the food was really good and portion sizes reasonable with immaculate presentation.<br/><br/>One complaint I have is about a particular blonde waitress.. She took away a dish before we were finished with it. It had food left on the plate and she took it away, but she ignored the empty dish that was sitting right next to it... WHY? Also the same waitress took away our water bottle that had enough for 1 glass and replaced it with a new bottle. usually that's ok... but these bottles are worth $10 each... not cool...<br/>Please give customers the option of tap water... because the water they have is more expensive than some of the dishes!

SushiaOWWW!. This new addition to Brookfield place is located in the lower level opposite from the Small Print Bakery. It only just opened last Tuesday night and having gotten the chance me and Susan managed to get a booking to check it out.<br/><br/>Sushia boasts that it has poached three of Nobu Perth's top chefs John Hizola, David Jung and Ardy Sulaiman. This being the case our tastebuds were trembling in anticipation at what potential offerings were on offer having been to Nobu on several occasions in the past with friends and family.<br/><br/>What we ended up experiencing was something disappointingly different.<br/><br/>What started out great ended up going downhill from there. Upon entering we were greeted by a friendly waitress who showed us to our table. Hunger had gotten the best of us and we had come a bit early but they were more than accommodating. At this point the place was still empty, us being the first customers of the night.<br/><br/>The water was brought straight out and menus were supplied. There is a fair bit of choice in these. We chose to order from the al e carte menu but there was 2 options of Degustation also on offer. We decided to get a bit of a mix opting for both cold and hot dishes.<br/><br/>We opted for a few cocktails to start. The Shiro Watermelon Martini was pretty impressive and actually tasted like watermelon. The Shinsen Crush had a very distinctive flavour but was also quite interesting. To start we ordered Spider Maki (Softshell crab sushi) and Smoked Wagyu. Upon presenting the wagyu dish the lid was removed and an aromatic waft of smoke was released. The wagyu had a very distinctive flavour and the Spider Maki was average for soft shell crab sushi.<br/><br/>We continued on with Pork Belly and Gindara Saikyo Yaki (caramalised toothfish). The toothfish was the highlight of the night. The pork belly seemed like something was missing. For fans of crispy pork belly I suppose that would be the crackling aspect of the dish. That is not intended here so don't be mistaken if you order this dish.<br/><br/>At this point as we hadn't ordered any rice we were still hungry so we decided to share a serving (you get 2 skewers) of Kushiyaki Tako (Marinated Octopus). The was very flavoursome but also quite salty.<br/><br/>On to dessert! We settled on Banana Harumaki which is basically banana in spring rolls accompanied with black sesame ice cream. Up until this point service was exceptional and was even as we walked out the door. What changed was the food. The dessert arrived and we dug in not thinking anything of the fact that the scoop of icecream was a very distinct pink colour (it tasted like raspberry sorbet) instead of something you would normally associate with black sesame.<br/><br/>Once we confirmed our suspicions we called over the waitress who informed us that as the kitchen had deemed the black sesame ice cream wasn't ready to serve a substitute was put in place and that they did apologise on their behalf. What annoyed us both was that at no point were we asked if this was okay until we brought up the difference in what we paid for and what we received.<br/><br/>The service came through and the waitress ended up bringing us a replacement dessert dish with the required black sesame icecream. In my opinion worth waiting for too.<br/><br/>All in all a nice place, with a nice atmosphere. The staff were very approachable and professional. Ambiance was good too except for one point halfway through our meal when more people starting arriving to have dinner and they turned up the music a little bit too loud.<br/><br/>I know its a new restaurant and there will be little mistakes and errors but you'd think when 3 top chefs from one of the best Japanese restaurants in town leave there and set up shop here you would be very impressed. Honestly ... we weren't.
Miss Eat A Lot
From the In-House Sushi Menu, I chose the Kamo ($22), a Duck breast sushi with Yuzu miso dressing. This was one of my favourite choices that night as it was a change from the raw salmon sushi I normally order when going out. The duck breast was tender, served on small pillows of rice, just the right size for one bite.

Sushia is located in the Perth CBD in the Brookfield Plaza complex on the underground level, and opened to quite a lot of fanfare about a year ago. The 220 seat venue prides itself on a top class bar and an open kitchen which includes a sushi bar, robata grill and a teppanyaki grill designed to bring the theatre of Japanese Izakaya to life. We had an 8pm reservation and after a couple of pre dinner drinks at Bobeche just around the corner, we made our way to the restaurant in time for our booking. The restaurant was not full, probably only about one third full, but considering that it seats over 200 people, and Friday nights after work are probably their hot night, this was fine. There was a lovely ambiance and the fiery red ornamental tree in the centre of the room set a lovely mood against the darker tones of the decor.
Bake You Smile
I wanted to like Sushia I really did!! I’ve been dying to trying it since the day it has opened up shop and I finally got the opportunity to try it out last week for my birthday. I am a huge sashimi fan but it has to be fresh sashimi (not the frozen takeaway shop kind). It is actually really hard to find truly fresh sashimi in Perth. I have traveled a bit and the best I’ve had so far was from MF Sushi in Houston (only the main chef is allowed to touch the raw fish. He imported the fish every week from Tokyo fish market and he had sooo many varieties!!). Well…I haven’t been to Japan yet and I’m sure it is probably 1/10000 of Japan quality. Anyways back to reviewing Sushia…I actually heard that this place stole all the Nobu chefs and since I quite like Nobu I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Sashimi: Fresh and tasty! The sauces were light and flavours were delicious. You don’t eat this kind of sashimi with soy sauce. It is supposed to be enjoyed ‘as is’. We actually kept ordering more and more sashimi dishes one after another. The hamachi has a nice yuzu jelly on top which gave it a unique flavour. Both the beef and tuna tataki were really nice and cooked to perfection. So many times I’ve been served overcooked tataki in other restaurants. Sushi: Not so good. I didn’t like the rolls that had raw vegies wrapped around it. I loveeee vegies but not raw and wrapped around sushi. It just gives it a funky taste. Hot dishes: Kudo for coming up with unagi fried rice. I’ve never seen it on the menu anywhere else and I thought it was quite intriguing. But man..the other hot dishes are TERRIBLE! The flavours were so salty and too saucy for my liking. Not traditional Japanese flavours. I like authentic Japanese and this place just does not cut it for me. Value: Prices are ‘ok’ for the style of dishes. This is what I would expect to pay normally in similar restaurants. I just wish the hot dishes tasted what it was priced. Service: The waitress’ English was very shaky. I
Food Fan
As a whole, it was a striking dish, with fanned pieces of apple, slices of orange, bundles of pickled daikon, a soup spoon containing wasabi and green spring onion, and was even decorated with bright yellow dandelions. Soya sauce came alongside it, but I relished in the clean finish of both types of fish, without the condiment.

The prawn tempura was 'get up in the night for' delicious. The light tempura batter covered the plump king prawns and was seasoned perfectly. It came with a spicy mayo dipping sauce. I could have eaten three of these serves. It was so good and my mouth is watering just thinking about it!
Eat Scout
We had a lovely salty bowl of edamame, the light and fresh Trout Zuke (cured ocean trout, pickles, melon and Japanese relish), salt and peppered Japanese squid with loads of chilli, wonderful tori karaage and one of the specials on the night – an amazing crab dish topped with a spicy mayo based sauce with a layer of popping salmon roe. It was a real highlight.

One of the most recent additions to the CBD is Sushia Izakaya & Bar, located in Brookfield place at the foot of the BHP Billiton tower. An Izakaya is the Japanese answer to the pub–a laid back locale where people can go to enjoy food and drink. And enjoy we did!

Lovely food, attentive wait staff, pricey but ohhhhhh so worth it.

Sushia has an open kitchen, dim lighting and trendy music with good food, fantastic service and incredible cocktails. It's the perfect location for a date because of the romantic ambiance. The food was good but there wasn't anything that set it miles above other Japanese restaurants. From what I heard, three of the chefs came across from Nobu, making it somewhat prestigious. I did find some dishes to be a tad bit too salty, especially the skewers but I still enjoyed it all.
Take Me To Foodie Heaven
Sushia Izakaya and Bar was the latest installment at Brookfield Place this year and was new to the Perth dining scene. From hearing good reviews on Urbanspoon and through word of mouth, I have always wanted to give this place a try. So, I’ve organised a dinner to catch up with two of my friends who I have not seen in a while at Sushia. To start off, we had some edamame ($7) to share. The edamame was cooked perfectly with a hint of salt giving it a fresh, salty flavour. You can’t go wrong with ordering edamame as your starter. It also makes a good snack too! Yes, edamame can be addictive in which Giuliana and I agreed. Edamame I had the Gindara Saikyo Yaki ($38) which is the cod in saikyo miso marinate. The cod was seared beautifully and was full of flavour. The miso marinate blended well with the cod and it was just perfect as I could also taste the miso flavours from the cod. I loved it! I can say that the cod is probably one of Sushia’s best! Gindara Saikyo Yaki Here is Wanda’s revie
Queen Of Bad Timing
Sushia's entree at Eat Drink Perth's the First Feast was delicate and showcased the skill that this Japanese kitchen has. My seared beef was raw in the middle and completely melted in my mouth.

Taste Test - Food.Life
The food at Sushia was fantastic and if you haven't already noticed I don't give praise very often. The flavours of each dish were balanced and danced on your taste buds; you can differentiate the different flavours of each dish unlike some other places where the dishes are flavoursome but taste so similar it all becomes a blur. So why didn't I give Sushia 5/5 you ask? There are two reasons, the first one being that the flavours were not anything I haven't really tasted before, although amazing it was nothing new, and secondly the mochi icecream was a bit of a let down, the mochi to icecream ratio wasn't quite right, more mochi would've made the dish better and maybe better ice cream. My stand out dishes were the hamachi carpaccio, the gindaa saikyo yaki, the minute steak and the tofu cheesecake.

You are here: Home » Events » The First Feast – Eat Drink Perth’s Launch Party My gluten free option of pork belly was served cold and each cube of meat had a near gelatinous texture that melted on contact with my tongue. It was topped with a ginger salsa and came with a mound of pickled daikon. I love my Japanese pickles and was overjoyed at the size of my heap on the plate.
Perth Munchkin
The entrée came first from Sushia Izakaya and Bar, a Hamachi Carpaccio Kingfish Sashimi in Asian Style Pesto with Yuzu Soy and Wafu Gelee along with a Vasse Felix Sauvignon Blanc Semillon. Can’t go wrong with Vasse Felix wines – ever delightful. The first course was light with melt in your mouth kingfish and an interesting citrusy dressing. It was my first taste of Sushia Izakaya’s cooking and it reminded me that I needed to book in for a meal there soon.

Sushia offers high quality Japanese fine dining in a lovely setting with excellent service. I really enjoyed the quality and flavour of the food, but felt that the serving size was not commensurate with the price for several dishes. Recommend
