Review Hawker's Cuisine - Perth

Annie L
I have been a Hawkers customer for a long time. Started in my uni days and now 16 years later roughly. They are back to their old location, behind the old shanghai northbridge. The owner is very friendly. Always attentive. Atmosphere has always been great. Its the whole charm of the place, service and food. Came here for chinese new year yesterday. They had the lion dance and some of the old favourites were still great. Food came out quick. We had Fuzhou tofu, Hot and Spicy squid, Hot plate beef, Crispy Pork Belly, Fried spring chicken and Ice Kachang for dessert. They all were delicious. Thank you for a great night.

Not a bad place for a casual dinner. The food was overall good and priced reasonably.
George Loo
Nice place for a group dinner. The Marmite chicken was quite good and a group favourite. The fried squid was cooked nicely and retained the moisture while having a nice salty coating. The kailan was cooked with a healthy dose of garlic. The only thing I found was that the portions were smaller than expected but still a good place for a meal.

Always enjoy this restaurant. Fast, efficient. Food is always good

I found the food heavy on the salt and sauce even though they day no added msg. You should probably try it though, it was a packed house and we had to wait 15 minutes for a table at 7.30pm on a Friday so it had many customers. The serving size and price was about par for Northbridge and service was friendly and efficient so no fault there.
Jenny Vo
Really nice food. I got the chicken curry and roti and spicy squid tentacles. Just wish the portions were a bit bigger. I only got half a container of curry and 2 small pieces of chicken so - 1 star for that.

My family and I ordered: Jiang Bao Beef (beef in a dark sauce. I think it was stir fried) Pork Chop King Both tasted good. The beef was about 22 and the pork about 18. Pretty good value. Service was fast. Place was heated which was good since it was winter

Super lousy service. Not even at full capacity but they won’t take orders because apparently they won’t be able to carry all the plates out (in verbatim, according to the Chinese lady at the counter). Lots of Chinese restaurants along this street, better off trying them instead.
Ricky Lie
Big restaurant, nice place. The food very nice. I ordered sweet and sour chicken with extra chinese donut but they didn't give us any extra and asked us for extra money. So sad about this matter, I am your regular customer since you're located at the old place. I hope you can make improvement with your service!

Usually this place is good value and delicious food. But this evening we had to wait for 45 minutes before the first dish arrived. We ordered 7 dishes and no way it was as good as previously from our last visit. Either they had a new chef or he is on holiday? When we mentioned to the casher while paying for the bill, she didnt even apologize and just said 'Yes'. She probably doesnt even care if we come back or not. I will give it another try and see if its still the same.

THE best !! Great food, great service . Once you try their fresh tofu , made on the premises...you will be back and back !! The best laksa in town too...yummmm
Jacqui Hemi
Great restaraunt for kids and large groups. Food was delicious and service was excellent. Favorite dish had to be the fish curry!
Adrián Lee
Best Malaysian Hawkers food in town. Been a long time supporter and the value is still very good and cheap. The food is always yum and if I dare say it, probably the best Hainan chicken rice in Perth because its top quality and NO BONES! A win for lazy people like me!Try it out yourself if you don't believe me. Now.. TAKE MY MONEY

We had great fun, the food was good and the staff were lovely and friendly. When you go with the right people you have a very enjoyable and entertaining night.
Richard Renan J. Regalado
Great service, friendly staff, good price and excellent food! Will definitely come back for more.
Keith Yong
Went there twice during my visit last week! Spacious and the people there are very nice.. Good food too! A place to go for Chinese cuisine
Tracy Heywood
Food and wine were great, service was very fast. Good entertainment for Chinese New Year. Only negative was being hussled out so people sitting outside waiting to come in, could be seated.
Harsh But Fair
Man this place smash their food. They are always busy, can seat about as many people as Optus Stadium, and really know how to make a satay skewer. Do yourself a favour and roll on in with a big crew. Order everything you can. Leave. Return and repeat.
Lunarcry
Have frequented this establishment several times over ever since they had their restaurant in Chinatown. Definitely the go to place if you’re craving Chinese food late at night. Dishes were all delicious. Service prompt and friendly.

The staff at Hawkers are always bubbly, friendly and go to every effort to ensure you get the best experience from your dine in. The food is always amazing, particularly the marmite chicken and the portion sizes are fantastic as well. Great prices and great food. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for great Asian cuisine
@Foodieguide_lily
A great spot! It costs a touch more than you'd expect for a hawker type of food place and it was odd that so many menu its were crossed out rather than update the menu itself - but still not expensive and great service and food. The wait staff were all lovely and helpful, and gave good recommendations and explanations when required. My salted egg softshell crab was very generous and tasty, as were the mantou I added. The drinks - especially the iced coffees and teas - were huge and all great value. All of my friends' entrees and mains were well sized portions, fresh and tasty. We came here for dinner after an awful pub around the corner served everyone but us and we got frustrated, and were so pleased that we left and got treated so well here instead. I'd happily return!
Mr Robot
Open styled dining, with a hall like interior. Great variety of food with beer on tap. Food was heavily seasoned with salt, so much I had to take a sip of water after every bite.
GetinmyBelly
Extremely disappointed with our meal. Almost every dish that we ordered was below average. The asian style butter prawns had an extremely sweet taste- almost felt like we were eating dessert, the black pepper beef was dry and tasted stale!
Pathman
Excellent. Simple Chinese but quite a bit of variety. Always seems to be busy. Recommend. The tiger on tap is also great. Some good tofu dishes and great fried egg plant.
Navi Singh
This is a Malaysian style restaurant. Very popular. Food is authentic and delicious. Friendly and efficient staff, and there are plenty of them so you don't need to sit waiting for service. Licensed and wines are reasonably priced. Can BYO wine as well.
We loved our meal
Caturday
This is a favourite place for my family. Marmite chicken, Fuzhou tofu, pork belly with muichoy and hainanese steam chicken are must try dishes. Booking recommended on a Friday and Saturday night.
Ilovebeansprouts
It's a hit-and-miss dining at this spacious restaurant. Love the Marmite Pork, Western Butter Prawns , Fuzhou Tofu and Superior Clams/Spinach (the Superior broth has a nice herbal taste to it). Crispy assorted mushrooms and fried udon are pretty average. Oyster omelette was quite disappointing. We were expecting a lot more than just a really thin, simple omelette with some chopped veggies and few oysters on it, especially when we were paying a steep price for it. It is definitely no where close to the authentic hawker style of oyster omelette.
Overall, food is enjoyable, but nothing to shout about. Food portions are generally small and some dishes are a bit overpriced.
Leslie Yapi
My top 3 recommendation
Western butter chicken - they use vegimite spread but somehow it taste amazing
Fuzhou tofu - very soft tofu
Marmite pork/chicken - I prefer pork, its caramelized.

Thei Tea tarik is also nice

Ask for their chilli oil

Finally, I've found the best deep fried squid tentacles in town. It took me a while (see my earlier review of Canton Bay Chinese Restaurant) to find an adequate replacement for the old Red Teapot in Norhtbridge. But the tentacles here were juicy and perfectly cooked, with just the right amount of seasoning, garlic, onions and chilli. Perfect. The Malaysian chicken curry, meanwhile, was pretty good, with a great depth of flavour, but some variable quality chicken. The spring rolls were a bit of a disappointment. The sauce was way too sweet and the rolls were only average. Overall, a good dining experience, with friendly, fast service. In fact, the only issue with service was the occasional language barrier. I will be back.
Tony
We enjoyed a variety of dishes and all were up to scratch. A great place to eat, drink and you can certainly enjoy a conversation with your friends. Service was attentive and friendly.

Particularly liked the barbecue squid curry, lemon chicken and a beef stir fry.
Quality! It Shouldnt Be That Hard! Love A Wonderful Mouth Full Of Wholesome FOOD!
We ordered Uber eats.

When you don’t want to go anywhere and you order Uber eats. Awful food over priced. It was bland and no taste over priced for what it was
Lady X
Came here for a 10 course Chinese New Year dinner. While there was plenty of rich food, from fish to lobster, I still prefer the dishes from their usual menu like marmite chicken and sambal kang kong
JJ
One of the better Malaysian restaurants in Perth. Food was good but serving size was not generous. Very busy restaurant and I get the impression they were trying to turn tables over as the waitress kept hovering over our table after we had finished. We were there for only an hour so I thought it was kinda rude to try to get us to leave so they can accomodate other customers. Also quite pricey.
Foodie In Paradise
Came here for late dinner and this place still very busy . We need to wait for quite a while to get a table. Once we ordered, food arrived fairly quickly. We really like the food here, very authentic Malaysian food.
Delilah O'Donoghue
This place is my mothers favourite AND a family favourite! You all sit at a round table and they bring you out the most AMAZINNG food and put it on a spinning wheel so you can access the dishes easily! My personal favourite is the marmite chicken and prawns but they have SO many options I 100% recommend you go here!
Dylan
Marmite pork and Bakar fish were quite good, but the "superior" spinach was definitely a let down. $19 for some spinach and barely any century egg and salted fish.
Eric Mu
The only Malaysia restaurant still open in northbridge area except the expensive papa rich, The food was average, but I recommend you go SOR if you are looking for better taste.
Gourmandius
Good setting with adequate table space and separation between tables. Prompt and attentive service with English language skills that exceed expectations.Good attention to food allergy concerns.

Yummy Satay skewers and sauce - could nt decide of fish or chicken was better. Amazing Penang style char kwae teow. Kerebu fish and soft shell crab were nice too. Chilli seasoned fried squid tentacles were also good.
Luka Neo
Good food and quick service! Large menu with heaps to choose from, if stuck can always ask the workers as they are very quick to notice someone which is a plus

Yaaaaaaaaaaaas 👏👏👏 the food we got from here was outstanding!
Ordered uber eats -
2 x pork spring rolls
2 x roti
2 x coconut rice
1 x lemon chicken 🍋
1 x marmite chicken

Couldn't even take a photo because was too busy inhaling the food 😇 the marmite chicken is the best, I'm getting it next time! It tastes like marmite and is absolutely worth it. The lemon chicken sauce is so moreish, the chicken is tender and boneless and the dish is very rich but extremely delicious. The coconut rice is some of the best rice I've ever had, it was perfect. The spring rolls are the BEST spring rolls I've ever had take away, the pork and flavours are so tasty and harmonised. The roti are delicious - like clearly who doesn't like roti 👅

110% recommend this place! Super fast uber eats too! Nice packaging, no spillage and came under 25 minutes :)
Vero
Best Chinese food I've ever had in Perth. Just love the tofu and prawn!!! Will definitely come to try out other foooood again !!!! Yeahhhhhhhh
Matthew Bouwman
Underwhelming. Lemon chicken is much nicer at the Bull Creek Hawker. Crispy salt chicken was not crunchy as you would expect more chewy. Salted yolk prawns were battered in golden yolk but no actual salted yolk sauce came with the dish and it really needs the sauce to accompany otherwise it just tastes oily. Drinks were milk tea (teh) were very under sweetened which is annoying because not many malay places in perth do milk tea in the first places. Disappointing and would not recommend.

I go to this place at least once a week with my boyfriend, its our favourite Chinese restaurant in Perth!

Our favourite dishes here are the Western Butter Chicken, Pork Ribs in Thai Sauce, Hainan Chicken, Marmite Chicken and Fuzhou Tofu!

They're always consistent with their food. Service is quick (most of the time) and the owner is super friendly!

Shadykiller_9
I have been a regular since my uni days at the old hawkers behind the old shanghai. The food can be described as "refined malaysian fare" that is decently priced too. Definitely recommend the marmite pork ribs, malaysian grilled chicken, hot and spicy squid (not really that spicy), and kerabu chicken. The only criticism I have is that some of the dishes do miss the mark, and the pricey drinks (avg $5.50). Aside from that, if you want affordable, tasty malaysian food that will leave you feeling satisfied, look no further!!
PerthfectBreakfast
This place is consistently good. Huge menu and they're now licensed with a cheap spirits, wine list (incl $70 Moët) and $20 jugs of beer.

We ordered my favourites as it was my birthday: chilli pepper squid, satay chicken sticks, combination egg sauce ho fun noodles, crispy pork belly and roti canai with curry chicken. Couldn't fault anything. Service was good. The crispy pork belly was the stand out dish... crispy lardons served with a herb salad with a spicy/sweet/sour dressing and pineapple - yum! The noodles were also delish.

I also really like their homemade tofu but couldn't fit it in our bellies on this occasion.

Highly recommend.
Renato
Hawker's is a great venue for a dinner with a bunch of friends. Connie, the Manager, is a gun and nothing is too hard for her. The crispy squid is delicious and the beef rendang is superb. Can't wait for another visit!
Ashlee Annette Nam
We regularly go here because the food is AMAZING! The menu is a novel and we choose something different each time and its always good. Also vegetarian friendly!
Benny Leong
Came here on the sunday. This place used to be jade palace. Now hawkers cuisine.

The food came out fast but the portions small and price is quite steep for what you get .

We ordered xo prawns , japanese tofu with no sizzling plate , seafood claypot and vegetables along with ice kachang and 2 drinks

All up it came to $98 at other restaurants itll be around the $70 mark and qith bigger portions
Food_Glorious_Food
Don't expect anything fancy, Hawkers Cuisine is a little like an open food hall. However, the food more than makes up for the lack of decor and atmosphere. I would come back here just for their delicious authentic Roti and salt and pepper squid tentacles. Their curry Laksa was quite tasty too. Food in general was consistently delicious, very well priced and efficient service - all big ticks in my dining book. The fact that they open until late is a plus too. Definitely worth checking out.
Nil
Food's really nice, price is good, quantity is generous and beer is $9ish for pint. Oh and good service. After much deliberation i had the curry noodles which was huge and he ate most of it. He had the three shredded noodles and 2 x roti which he had with my curry noodles. The curry soup was rich and delicious! They also make their own chilli sauce in house which was a really nice addition to the noodles!

This was the best Malaysian we have had in Perth! We had an amazing eggplant dish and drunken chicken. It is a huge hall and definitely channels the hawker hustle, but the menu and choices are diverse.
Joanneyl
Love eating here. Generally dishes taste very good. Authentic malaysian food. Prices are reasonable. No complaints at all! Nice restaurant. Always full, need to book
Sandhya1814
I have been to this place 3 times and have found the food decent. Food arrives and the staffs are understanding. I have dietary requirements whereby i cant consume beef and pork, they have always accommodated allowing me not to miss out in any of my options esp the Mabo tofu.
I have tried: belchan fried rice, fu yong omelette, fried tooth fish, golden prawns, mabo tofu, salted fish eggplants and iced lychee. Worth giving the place a try esp if you are hungry during late nights.
Akeera Dharmapala
Yum! The service was good, the food was amazing. In my opinion, it's probably one of the best Chinese restaurants in Perth. The chicken Satays were a bit anorexic ($1.80 each but you had to buy a minimum of 5) but the other meals we had were large portions. The spicy squid tentacles weren't too spicy even though they had 2* spicy eating (the highest), the chilli is powder they use. The Dry Ho Fun was definitely enough for two people. The chicken rice with chicken was also delicious!
Bowen L.
Food was fine however the service was CR*P. We got rolling eyeballs THREE times. The waitress kept asking if we have finished when there were obviously dishes in the plates. When I said we are almost done, the waitress rolled her eyeballs and said 'it's gonna be either finished or not'. Are you F**KING kidding me? It's not even a busy night, a third of the restaurant is empty. I don't understanding how can the restaurant survive with this kind of customer service. Never ever again.........

Went to hawkers and the food was horrible!! Chicken was too hard and tasteless, no juice in vegetables and too much vinegar in soup!! Just left food as it is on the table...told at the counter but they advised you must tell us when food was served... paid full amount but for sure not visiting next in lifetime!!
Andrewrd1970
Took the family to this gigantic restaurant and i advise you to do the same. Great food, reasonably priced and even though its a big space, its got a great atmosphere. Food was good, some amazing food being eaten as i walked around the room. Go there.

This place is a saviour when I spend long nights doing assignments in uni since it opens till midnight. Treesha and I usually head out here when we need breaks during our all nighter sessions and it usually is busy, but the crowd comes in and out quite fast that we usually wait 20 minutes tops if it's a hectic night.

We started off with what I always always order in every Asian restaurant that sells it, sambal kang kung ($15.80). I don't generally find kang kung very spicy in Australia so I asked them to kick it up a notch and double the chilli. This place makes delicious kang kung ♥

We order sizzling tofu ($13.80) as well which came out... not sizzling, but we got it exchanged pretty fast. It might be because they were extremely busy today but the sizzling tofu was not as I remembered it. It was super salty today. The service here is quick and all the staff had their own personal walkie-talkie which is rather cool.
Bottomlesspit
I was underwhelmed with Hawker's Cuisine unfortunately. Seems like a great place to go with large groups because it is a massive place and quick service but unfortunately the food is to match, and seems like it is cooked for the masses. The fried wontons were nice and crispy and the nasi goreng wasn't too bad, but it all lacked flavour and authenticity to me.
Reynaldo
Decent food, decent prize, fast service.

I think most of their food were decent and you can't go wrong with it. Their marmite chicken is the best though in my opinion.

EXTREMELY DISGUSTING SERVICE

I don’t usually write a review, in my opinion when I have not so good experience in a restaurant, I will not to make a big fuss and just don’t come back to the restaurant ever again as simple as that. But the experienced I had in Hawkers Cuisine force me to write a review because I never experienced extremely terrible service in my whole life. Anyway, this incident happened on Sunday 30th October 2016, we booked a table of 7 at 7pm to have a little celebration dinner for friend’s birthday. We arrived at the restaurant at 7.15 (15 minutes late), we went to the counter and spoke to the SHORT HAIR LADY that we have a booking at 7pm. Then the SHORT HAIR LADY replied us very rudely “I have only two hands, just wait your table is being cleaned and walk away. At that moment we are a little bit stunned and confused. Then She came back to us sarcastically said “your booking is for 7pm and now is already 7.15, we have to give away your table”. At that point we were offended not because of she giving away our table but because of the way she spoke to us and I said to the SHORT HAIR LADY “Do you have a table for us or not? If you don’t, its ok, we can go somewhere else. And the SHORT HAIR LADY seems just don’t give a damn about losing a potential customers. So I went to the manager (she was wearing different shirt) and tell her about what happened, she doesn’t seem to care either, so we left and had dinner elsewhere. If only the SHORT HAIR LADY inform us nicely with a good manner about we were late for our booking and she had to give away our table. We will understand the situation and we were more than happy to wait for another available table, as we are not in a rush. Bottom line, WILL NEVER COME BACK AGAIN and will make sure to tell family and friends about the experience we had.

Hawker’s has become our default go to Chinese restaurant, be it for intimate dining for 2, family gatherings or large groups of up to a dozen. The menu is extensive and might be overwhelming initially, but after a few dining experiences, it becomes crystal clear which are the favourites, and the dishes practically summons you to order them on repeated visits. Hainanese Steam Chicken and Fuzhou Tofu are the staples, don’t be surprised if they’re sold out if dining after 7.30pm. Bone free chicken with simple but tasty sauce and a generous slab of silky smooth egg tofu showered all over with mince meat and rich sauce. Marmite Chicken, Malaysian Rojak Chicken, Hawkers Tofu, Sambal Kang Kong or any other vegetables really, Golden Prawn, Salt Pepper Squid, Sweet Sour Pork, and we’ve got ourselves covered for the night.

Contrary to popular belief, you can book tables at Hawkers, provided you do it at least 24 hours prior and not 30 minutes before on your way in, to avoid the potentially long queues. Dining at Hawkers can be a noisy affair, the uneven flooring can be a bit off putting as the countless wait staff roams the floor, and picking a seat at the table is a bit like pot luck, half of it have that annoying bar from under that table that prevents you from being seated properly, and the other half doesn’t. It’s a no frills Chinese Malaysian cuisine experience where if you pick the right dishes, food quality would be the least of your worries.

Very disappointed to the food. We ordered Penang kuey tiaw, fu Yong omelette, garlic squid and crispy pork bell. First I want to say the crispy pork belly is ripped off, we didn't even see any pork belly in the dish, it was sliced super thinly but with so little meat. Overall as a Malaysian I have to say It doesn't taste like Malaysian cuisine at all, food was overrated, worst! sorry to say that.
Eatingismyhobby
Excellent place to go for quick service, very tasty food and big groups of people! It was just the two of us when we went on a Saturday night and although the place was packed, we were seated and served very quickly. The food is absolutely delicious and the menu is huge! I'd highly recommend the special Roti Canai with Beef Rendang. Scrumptious! This is my new go-to Chinese place in Northbridge. One word of caution....prepare for the MSG effects!
LittleAsianGirl
Hawker's cuisine is one of my favourite places to visit after a night out for sobering up goodness. I love their fried singapore rice noodles, wat tan hor, and their marmite chicken. Lots of big round tables for large groups. I also love their range if fresh made asian drinks.
SweetPoison
This is great for a large group of people. It's cheap, byo and they easily accommodated our group of 40. Good came out quick and servers were attentive. One of the spring rolls came out with a sticker on it but that was quickly whisked away - haha. Not really the type of food I'm into but I knew that going there. Good night.
Perth Critic
Always enjoyed meals here at Hawkers with family. Sometimes the serves on some dishes are quite small but not today's dishes...lol Food also comes out quite fast.
Ze Meddler
Probably the best Malaysian hawker food establishment in Perth. I don't think I can go past the Marmite chicken, Fuzhou tofu or the butter prawns when I go there. We pretty much order the same things everytime. You got consistency, you got deliciousness, you got variety (unless you stick to favourites), you got efficient service, you got a big ass place to fit lots of seats. What else do you need? Good eats!
Valeria Spirovski
I cannot rate this place highly enough. My partner and I are both vegans & the lady serving us immediately sussed this out when I mentioned we were 'strict vegetarian and can't eat egg'. She ran us through the menu, gave us examples of changes they could make and even things they could make off the menu incl. salt and pepper tofu and a peanut sauce dish (my partner loves these things.). Food came out and we dug in - all so delicious, fresh, and totally vegan. We had salt and pepper tofu, black and white tofu, fried rice, garlic kang kong and an eggplant dish. Again can't rate highly enough, such friendly service, and great food. Will definitely be coming back, Hawkers has made a place in our rotation!!

Hubby and I liked Hawkers. We just felt like Chinese and its supposed to be one of the best in Perth. On arrival I found it hard to communicate with one of the staff members but later along came what seemed to be the "maitre'd" who was super bubbly efficient and service driven so we felt a bit more reassurance... especially as we were concerned about having to wait a while for our table!

So the food was about the quality you'd expect for the price if a bit better. The food was fairly good, true to form and simple flavours but value for money for sure.

From a culinary perspective I'd rather spend a bit more and dine somewhere a bit more interesting really. But a cost-effective family Chinese outing, this really is the place, and it had that kind of atmosphere too. Not so much for Friday night couples date night. 😉
Melissa Loh
For one, the new digs are extremely spacious. No more large 10-seater round dining tables cramped between the two pokey levels of dining – the new Hawker’s Cuisine location is one expansive floor of dining with lots of space between to navigate a pram. No wonder it was still popular with extensive Asian family gatherings.
Julie
I dont know why this restaurant is so popular n good rating. They asked us to leave very rude way. "I GIVE YOU 10 MIN LEAVE THE TABLE. THERE ARE MANY PPL WAITING" WITH NO EXCUSE OR ANY SMILE. Bad customer experience. I didnt find any special for thier food too!!
Lauren Menagé
This is by far the best asain food ive had in Perth. The staff are very efficient and quick with orders. I highly recommend the Marmite Chicken.
Reggie
Had the malaysian grilled chicken, claypot tofu, hotplate beef and braised beef.

The chicken was so flavourful and the chilli that came with it was amazing. The braised beef was so tender and the hotplate beef is good as usual. The claypot tofu was homely and really yummy as well.
Evonne
You've got to pick the right dishes here to be impressed. Our favourites here are butter prawns, golden salted egg prawns and fuzhou tofu. The hot and sour soup is quite nice here, as is the kerabu fish, marmite chicken, and the crispy pork belly salad. Don't really like the Singapore Chilli crab from here.I find the setting a bit uncomfortable, with the mix of casual, hawker still seating but expansive ceilings and design. It might be because I still remember when this was Ocean Palace, Jade Dynasty, Xintiandi! lol.
E
It was quite empty when we came for an early dinner around 6pm. All the food served in less than 10 mins during dinner time. Their soft shell crab is highly recommended!! Other dishes that we ordered are just tasted average only.
T-M@c
I'm not sure what the fuss is all about, came here tonight with a party of 12. We ordered the salt and pepper squid, the first plate came well seasoned however the onion mixture on top was raw. The second plate of squid which arrived later on in the course of the evening came out semi raw and severely under seasoned. Most of the other dishes such as the marmite chicken, fried noodles, Kung Po chicken, chilli tofu were all under seasoned. They lacked salt and lacked flavour. Overall a measly effort. Won't be back anytime soon.
Queen Charlene
Marmite chicken is and always will be the trademark dish here for us! I would give a 5 but given the quick nature of 'hawker' food, we always get the impression we are expected to eat quickly and make room for the next customers. It would be nice to feel a bit more welcome. Other than that, always incredibly nice and fast food.
Princess Zelda
I love Hawkers , its a little gem ! The food is real fresh, not over the top spiced out just tasty. I am definitely a fan of their Marmite chicken and tofu...you know what almost everything goes here.
Remember to bring your own wine , they are open untill late and food is generally priced well.
Ive been here a couple of times, try and come with lots of friends so you can try more dishes.I'll be back forsure !
🍚🍲🍜🍲

There's nothing like a good Chinese food meal to end a weekend. When my former cell (youth group) leader suggested a catch up dinner, we all jumped at the idea. When he suggested Hawker's cuisine, we jumped even higher. Hawker's Cuisine has to be one of my favourite Asian restaurants, and judging by the constant crowd, it must be a lot of other people's favourite as well. We know we were going to have an awesome dinner here.
Nicholas Lim
One of the best Malaysian offerings in Australia let alone Perth. I ordered the butter chicken on recommendation, far from a horrible fake Asian dish catering to western tastes, this was a dish that would be the rage anywhere in modern Asia. Everything I've eaten there is top class. No added MSG is a bonus. Super-bonus points for having Tiger on tap. Service was efficient and nice enough. Great stuff.
ChrissyK
Sharing dishes is the main aim of this place. Not as good as I remember it at its old location. But these days its hard to find a generous main at around $20. Crispy chicken was the best dish. Service not the best but the food is good. BYO available.
Fat Bastard
Go to place for fried chicken and beer after a long week. Let's face it grease, chicken and beer is a recipe for good things. Don't fight the desire.
Kudokun
My favorite Chinese restaurant in Perth. I have never been disappointed everytime I visit this restaurant, even back when they were in the smaller old place in Chinatown (Northbridge). I love this place. Always bring my tourists-friends to come here and they all love it too.
The food are delicious, it always makes me want to eat more and more. The best menu would be the Western butter chicken followed by golden fry eggplant. They are amazing. Really. Here is the list of the usual menu we ordered (usually for 8-10 people, if you have more people, you can just order 2 of the butter chicken and 2 of the tofu): Western butter chicken, marmite chicken, golden fry eggplant, chilli squid, pork ribs ying thai sauce, crispy pork belly, superior spinach, and the sizzling tofu.

For smaller group (if you are looking for 2 mains and 1 veg): western butter chicken, crispy pork belly, tofu/spinach.

Staffs are friendly and the food comes in relatively quick too. Prices are decent, very good for money in fact, usually down to less than $20 per person. Knowing it is super good place, it can be crowded during dinner times especially Friday / Saturday night so you might want to call in and book a table in advance. I definitely recommend all of you to come here.
Anonymonster
Alright to go on any given night if you are looking for a chinese dinner. It has become a somewhat staple chinese restaurant to me, second only to another favourite in Vic Park (mainly because of the fact that parking in the city is both expensive and far).
George
Been here a few times after work
Dishes are amazing
It's classic and on point
Nothing crazy just good filling food that will leave you more than satisfied

Great Malaysian Chinese food that cooked consistently. Fuzhou tofu and marmite chicken is a must. Golden prawn or squid is great and tasty. Sambal kangkong can be classified as one of the best in Perth. For the cold dishes crispy pork belly salad is tasty and delightful. Overall dinning experience is great. Love to eat more often in this place.

Delicious food, prompt service, book in advance to avoid disappointment. Marmite chicken, kailan xo, beef and chicken satay skewers, vege spring rolls, honey mustard prawns, tofu pictured; all amazingly delicious and well priced amongst six people with drinks at $25pp.
Perth Foodaholic
Consistently good Chinese food. Great value. This place can get quite busy but the food comes out really quickly. Two words: BUTTER CHICKEN. Now this isn’t the Indian style butter chicken that most people know. It’s called western butter chicken and it is deep fried chicken pieces in an addictive, rich, creamy butter sauce. Highly recommended. Other dishes I enjoy include the marmite chicken. Great place if you’re craving Chinese/Malaysian food.

The bakar fish sambal chilli is sooo good! Everything is tasty and as authentic as you can get. Also the ice kumquat and sour plum drink is to die for!
LittleGirlBigFood
Great value! Really good food for the price and fresh when we went too. Can be busy but that's always a good sign I say!.

Worst experience I've ever had in a restaurant in my entire life.
The service throughout the entire dinner was really poor.
When we had to pay, I kindly and politely asked a separate bill since I needed it for my work expense claim.
The manager told me that they could not do it because there was the queue (there was no one else waiting to pay at the time), when I explained I would have lost my money without a receipt she started screaming at me, telling me that I was STUPID, yes she repeatedly told me (screaming) that I was stupid just in front at the entire restaurant.
I just could not believe what it was happening and I left, loosing my money. I guess the manager was right I've been stupid in having spent my money in a place like that one.
You have not only lost 5 customers tonight, I'll make sure that all my friends and colleagues will know what type of people they could find in your "restaurant". Good luck with the future.

One of our favourite places to go for Chinese/Malay. The food is quick and packed full of flavour. Reasonable serving for its price. Definitely recommend
Thirdwill
Consistently great valued food. This is our go-to when we are craving Chinese/Malay food. Service is good but sometimes the place is too packed! Highly recommended.
Asian's Taste
We went there for lunch.the food and service are good. We ordered the prawn noodle soup;fried kwee tiau; chilli fried squid;marmite chicken and lobak
The most stand out food is chilli fried squid.....this dish is the best fried chilli squid that i ever tasted so far....the marmite chicken is crispy...and the rest are average
Hippo309
Tried the mee pok and the dry lou shu fen. Definitely love the lou shu fen much more. It was very fragrant, and not too oily. Oh and I love the sambal chilli.
TrueBlackMetalFan
I like how this place looks like a palatial Persian spare room inside. There's like 100 tables and there's much more room than the stacked apartment they occupied a few years ago.

The food is good. I really enjoy how you can taste the pan on some of the noodle dishes, in that they have that 'char' taste that lots of places miss. I think that's what really makes a good wok cooked dish.

I'd say the menu is fairly comprehensive, perhaps without the true firey chilli, oily, smokey, and acidic notes you get from true hawkers markets but I feel this gets pretty close. Veg side like the sambal kang kong are great. As is drunken chicken - plump, moist, and offering a nice springy resistance to my well formed canines.

The other thing is that this place is fully licensed. Pints of ok beer (they have a monteiths pale) are $9.50. That's cheaper than a lot of pubs. Especially in the raw canker that is Subiaco. Blergh.

Also, I would recommend not ordering any dish with egg sauce. Although tasting ok, it has the consistency and viscosity of semen.

Other than that- very good! Would recommend!

I do agree the quality has dropped since they've moved to Francis St, however sometimes when the Singaporean in you wakes up with an intense craving for Mee Pok (with extra chilli, extra vinegar), you just gotta do what you gotta do. I love the Mee Pok here and it's probably closest to what I used to get in Singapore growing up.
FoodBean
I think Hawker's Cuisine was better in its old location in Chinatown. The new premises don't have the same character. Possibly my imagination, but the food didn't seem as good this time as it used to be. The Spicy Mamak Mee Goreng, according to the menu, is two chillies hot but was in fact very, very mild. However, it's still a good place for a lunchtime get together. And it is very good value. The service is good. There was a stuff up with our order, which turned out to be my own fault, but they absorbed it without any fuss so top marks for that. BYO at $3 per person, which is quite steep. I prefer corkage to be per bottle - I think that is fairer.
FoodieQueen
Oh dear. Their portion size has reduced by so much! The food used to be better before they moved to the new location on Francis street. What I found delicious was the marmite chicken! The beef rendang was cold. Which was a bit sad. It made me feel like it was taken out of the freezer and not microwaved properly. Such a pity. It was one of my favourite chinese restaurants to go after a big night out. But tonight it was a miss. The fried squid and the asam fish was quite nice. But it used to better.
Russ
What a great little restaurant. Booked a table for 9 tonight and it was great food and a great 27th birthday celebration surrounded by family. I can see why this place carries a high plus 4 rating. The lemon chicken was absolutely superb
Hungry Hippo
First time back since they relocated to Francis street last year. 5pm first customers in but restaurant was filling up as we ate. Nothing has changed except location - ordered our usual golden garlic squid, sambal kang kong, marmite chicken etc etc and they were delicious. The owner still remembered us as regulars in the old restaurant and had a good chat with us while we were settling the bill - business is still good and much better now they actually have a foyer for people waiting for a table. I liked the old restaurant because it was cosy but at the end of the day it's all about the food for me. Anyway as per usual we ordered too much and took some home but that was polished off on the same night.

It always takes me by surprise when an asian place does gluten free and there were no tags on the app. Gluten free patrons- the beef rendang, the hainanese chicken and normal stir fried veges can be made gluten free! Cross contamination is probable so if you are allergic then it might not be fully safe. The food is always good here and knowing I can still eat something makes me happy.

Never disappoints. Ever. Homemade tofu is a must have all time fav!!! Great gathering for a bunch of friends to just 2 people having a simple meal...owners are on it with service and food standards as well!!!
Airwolf
Great place for Authentic Malaysian food and great feed, had the marmite chicken, golden prawns and homestyle to fu, beef tending. Not disappointed for busy Saturday night.
Azlea Reimy Khan
Just Great Malaysian Dishes and some of the dishes are specialty dishes. Though Connie and Monica have moved their famous Hawkers from Chinatown to Francis St. The place can now harbours more customers and the qualify of the food was not affected. But the portion went down a bit and the price went up a little. But who care it tastes great and we love it.
Lex.brickland
Group sensation. Went with a crew (8)from work ...great food and top service well done hawkers ....and considering perth prices ...actually good value

Gave it a second chance.. My wife is Malaysian and therefore lives her Malaysian food.
We went to this restaurant when it was still in Chinatown...it was disappointing for me! I was hesitant to come back but a happy wife, happy life:)
We had:
Marmite chicken: best dish of the nite
Roti canai: loved this dish.
Something tofu: it was one big peice of tofu and it was cooked very well but for me it needed more flavour. (I am Flavour Explorer :))
Sezichuan beef: very average. I expect this dish to pack punch and flavour. Beef was not tender.
Cereal prawn (or something close to it). I wouldn't order this again.
My wife ordered most of these dishes but on the whole it was pretty good. I'll come back to try different things.
I feel that is more expensive then when they were in Chinatown but food hasn't improved according to prices you pay.
Joseph
Food was great value and service was what I would expect for a Hawkers restaurant. Oh and tap water was free. I'll be back
Melissa Cardillo
Great customer service, wonderful food.. Not too sure on the italian table cloths but otherwise very good.
Matt Hsu
The quality of service is terrible. Especially shorthair waitress
Jomac12
Great night out!. We had a table for 8 on a Saturday night 4 weeks ago at their 8pm sitting and it was fantastic! None of us had been before and we were all wondering what the night had in store for us after reading some of the reviews about 'bad service' etc. but we were all pleasantly surprised and had a great night. The food was very tasty and the portion sizes were generous. The service was great, with advice on dishes and attentive with drink orders etc. The bonus was the price, at $50 a head and everyone with full stomachs and plenty of beers there were no complaints and we are all looking forward to going back again!

Manager's reply. It seems whenever customer writes a bad review the manager will attempt to 'shoot back' . This is unacceptable in my opinion. There was this review written by 'Chicken Connoiseur' regarding tap water not being served . Chicken Connoiseur was right to quote the Liquor Licensing Act. May I ask Hawker's Cuisine manager what do you mean by 'filling an incident report' ? You mean you will choose to fill in a report rather than just serve free tap water? Also by suggesting Chicken Connoisseur to reveal his/her true self sounds to me like a threat. What do you propose to do if he/she revealed the real name? This is a review page, everybody as a customer has the right to give either positive or negative comments. Do other viewers agree with me? I hope by writing this I will not be threatened by Hawkers Cuisine to reveal myself. hehe. ( And no I am not related to Chicken Connoiseur and I don't know who he/she is.)
Andrew I Love Food But It Makes Me Fat
Great Malaysian food. We just got back from Malaysia and the food here was just as good. Amazing curry and authentically spicy. I had the nasi lemak and a wonderful seafood tofo soup which was full of pieces of prawn. We did wait for a table but given some terrible food we've had in perth at more upmarket places I can say I'd wait on the comfy chair any time for this food.
JaelT
Amazing. I ordered "Three Treasures" -- snow peas, eggplant, & okra -- 3 of my favorite things, all on 1 plate, & cooked to perfection.
It. Was. Bliss.

Also awesome: spicy chicken appetizer, both our soups, & hubby's nasi lemak.
Chicken Connoisseur
Bad Service!. These guys refused to serve me tap water in breach of their liquor license. I had to purchase a bottle of their overprice Spring Water!

Section 115A of the Liquor Control Act 1988 (“the Act”) requires that the licensee must ensure that
water suitable for drinking is provided, free of charge, at all times when liquor is sold and supplied
for consumption on the licensed premises. The penalty for non-compliance: in the case of a
licensee - $10 000; and in the case of a manager - $4 000
Boris
Treat their guests like cheap skates. We ordered more dishes than we could eat and wanted to pack a couple of lunches for the next day. They gave us take away containers but took away the rice bucket so we couldn't pack any rice. Apparently it's house policy that you can't take home any rice unless you pay extra for 'take away rice'.

There are other restaurants that have a similar policy where you can't take away the rice if you have topped up the bucket. We hadn't though and thought they were being unreasonable.

The food is great - they're just being cheap
Eyes On Perth
Lovely meal last night. The place was buzzing, glad we got in early at the 6pm sitting. The yong chow fried rice was the best I've ever tasted - laden down with fresh al dente vegetables, juicy chunks of prawn and sweet char sui pork. The Thai lemongrass prawns were a winner. Looking forward to my next visit, so many more dishes I want to try.
Brownbeast
What a disaster. Well the tap water was ok though for the feed I'd give it a minus five out of 10 we started off with entrees my god l hope the mains are better mains arrived lm glad we didn't order desert this is a honest review a little tip don't serve milo in jars
Yonas Hindrarto
Delicious dishes horrendous service. It is a nice move from tight little place to spacey bigger room. We had reservation at 6pm,was already full. Dishes are still one of the best, very tasty and flavoursome. I ordered pork ribs with thainsauce, marmite chicken, and tofu with drinks. They were all fantastic. When I was eating what left, staff started asking us few times if we had finished with our meals to the point that a male staff came to our table saying that our table has another customer reservation and I was never told there was time limit how long we should stay there when making the reservation. Good dishes but I did not feel comfortable and welcomed being the customer. Nowadays surviving business ia about customer service. I will spend my money eating elsewhere and think twice going back.

RE: Excellent Taste. As a street food affectionado this place has excellent food. My benchmark in many hawker food places is the quality of prawns that they use... it was good.
CC Loves FOOD
We got asked to leave?? REALLY???!!!. PRO's
The food is actually good, restaurant looks and feels clean, service is cordial and attentive, prices are fair, extensive menu

CON's
They filled up empty 'Aesop' and 'Sukin' branded handwash bottles and filled these with generic handwash. Their poor ability to deal with customers properly.

EXPERIENCE
Our table of 3 started our dinner at 6:30pm'ish and was finishing up our dinner which did consist of their pricey snow crab (only worth mentioning to highlight we weren't there to hog a table cover for a couple of bucks revenue) as we were approaching the 1.5 hr mark on a Wednesday evening. We ordered some dessert drinks from a waitress as our table was getting cleared of the main dinner wares. 5 minutes later the lady boss approached our table and informed us she had cancelled our drinks order and asked us to vacate our table and leave the restaurant. (REALLY??!!!?) We informed her we would like to enjoy a dessert each to cap off our meal and she merely pointed us towards the door quoting that our table was booked at 8pm. I explained that we weren't informed that we had a time limit and felt it wouldve been okay if only we were given the heads up before we commenced our sitting. She proceeded to quirk that even Nobu and Rockpool (at the Crown complex) had time limits on their table. I bit my tongue...

So 'HAWKERs' cuisine is comparing themselves to fine dining restaurants now? But thats not even the problem, they needed to communicate any foreseeable problems and time constraints we had AND there were actually other empty tables when we were pretty much forced to leave.

VERDICT
Based on the lack of empathy and care for their customer's points of view (and what is actually 'fair') I will not be returning. I hope those who bother to read these restaurant reviews take heed of this example scenario which clearly indicates their (lack of) consideration towards their customers, when deciding on Hawker's Cuisine as a possible dining venue.
Love A Good Eat
Standard has dropped since the move. NO FREE TAP WATER. Charge is ~$3 for 1.5L of bottled water.

The Marmite chicken quality has dropped substantially. Would not order again. Bland. Dry.

No kangkong on site when we ordered and it wasn't labeled on the menu.

Would not return.
Eatwithhendri
Favourite. Food cooked to perfection and authentic. generous serve too. pricing is reasonably cheap. service was okay. nothing to complain.
Karen Tan
Food was ok but service is bad as rudely ask to move on after an hour and a half because they wanted the table back .
Little Food Adventures
A Good Feed. The service here is not too shabby, food comes out quite fast and orders are done quickly. Dishes are a hit and miss. Some are amazing and some aren't. The fuzhou tofu is so good. It literally melts in your mouth. My other favourite is the sweet and sour pork, really hits the spot! The salt and pepper squid, on the other hand, is SO salty. The price to serving size ratio is decent. My table spent an average of 20 dollars per head.
Will come back when in need of a late night feed.
Peli Can
Bad service. The service was slow, after we were waiting for almost a hour then they told us one of the dish is not available, then we need to wait for around 20 min for another dish. When we pay, the cashier almost charged the dish that was not available. The foods was nice but we can get similar dishes from the nearby HK tea cafe, with a much faster & better service. So we are not going back again.
Bunny Lee
Hawker's Cuisine is awesome. I love everything about it down to the funky table cloths. Everything dish we've ordered has been super tasty. I find myself dreaming about their Western Butter Chicken when I lie in bed at night. Price is reasonable. Service is fast and efficient. Staff are friendly and the boss lady is a real character. Looking forward to my next visit there. Thumbs up all around!
See-Beck-Eat
Brilliantly brisk and attentive service, amazing food... always! Can't get enough of the butter chicken!
Shakytower
Enjoyed every dish. Butter chicken still rocks. Service was fast and efficient. Staff are friendly.

We went to this restaurant because of the very positive user feedback from urban spoon. But the food wasn't as good as we expected, marmite chicken was very disappointing because of the excessive salt used and we feel like everything was fried which is not that good for a healthy diet. The good in this restaurant clearly does not meet the standard of 90% positive feedback. Service was good though and we only waited for 10 min.
Thomashling
Everything deep fried. Been to this restaurant many years ago. I thought it was nice back then. Anyway, my family decided to celebrate mother's day here. A lot of deep frying of the food is a put off for me. Taste wise is some good some just so so. It's ok but not memorable enough for me to come back. The restaurant was busy though. Don't understand what the fuss is about maybe I am the odd one out.
Toorak
New premises. This is one of my fave cheap eats restaurants and we are fairly regular visitors.

We went for dinner last weekend in a group of 8 and I was interested to see how the move to new premises affected the usually laid back atmosphere. My first impression is that the large new cavernous hall restaurant has removed some of the chaotic charm of the old premises.

Whether or not the service was experiencing settling in issues I am not sure, but it was certainly nowhere near as prompt or efficient as it used to be.

Food as always was really good (although out of fuzhou tofu at 8 30pm!).

Will give it another go once teething problems have (hopefully) been sorted out.
Kimmyluvsfood
Food is as good 3 years later!. We live in Adelaide and was last here 3 years ago. The food is just as good as before. New premises means minimal waiting time for a table although we were there for a Tues night dinner at 6.45pm, after a long drive with 2 little kids from Albany. Ordered marmite chicken, fuzhou tofu and spinach dish to eat in and char kway teow & fried vermicelli for takeaway. All yummy!
Eberhard
Decent food but.... Food is alright but extremely poor customer service. Also expect to wait 20 minutes for a table and then another 45 or so minutes from when you order for the food to arrive.
Martin
Have no idea why so many ppl like it. For me never a huge fan of it, maybe didn't order the right dish. Also they charge everything take away container , sauce , etc. But the thing annoyed me a lot is they don't provide tap water . You only have to pay for the water . Really!? Am I still in Australia ?
Mini Manu
When the Chineese que up for food you know it's going to be good. Been going to Hawkers with family and friends for over 5yrs.
The food is fantastic.
Staff are friendly and always look after their customers.
The only problem is that the menu is so big and with everything so delicious how are you suppose to choose.
Ubergrunt
Best Marmite chicken in perth. Always go back for it. but other dishes are quite high on the MSG
Jessicacalver
Amazing little GEM. I have come here twice and if you love good tasty food you've hit the jackpot!. Marmite chicken is to die for and pages and pages of options to choose from. Place is usually packed so either go in and book or just pop you name down and head out for a walk and grab a bottle of wine because yes BYO. Staff are amazing if you have a bit of patience because you can see these guys are run off their feet alot of the time. Cute, good food, good atmosphere! winner winner!
Lillyslifestyle
Good Chinese food, a little pricey but the problem is the MSG. Good food with a hint of MSG added to it. I am not a fan of MSG so have not returned after my 3rd visit (I thought I was either imagining the MSG or could handle it but I guess after 3 visits proved to be too overwhelming on my senses). MSG makes food has a stronger flavour and more delicious, but there are other Chinese restaurant who do not use MSG with food as good as theirs. And with those Chinese restaurant, I dont go home feeling sick (due to the MSG in my stomach). A little info of MSG: they affect your hormones, they are ANTI-appetite suppressant, it plays with your neuro system. You can become too addicted to it. Damage to your eye. Damage to your heart. And so forth.
Carmen
Food is good but horrible customer service. The boss is rude.
FullStop Yum Yum
Great Kang Kong. Went here on Saturday night with family 6.30pm booking and the place was already packed. Service is prompt and friendly enough. Loved the atmosphere. Ordered salt and pepper squid which was the family favourite, the marmite chicken which we didnt think much of taste like burger rings. The beef hot plate which was simple but tasted very nice, Cha Sha Duck and the sambal kang kong which was my favourite. The rice was gluggy though. Overall very good meal and will return.
Damme1628
Really delicious. This place is awesome, pretty much my favorite Asian restaurant in Northbridge for good value food. Usually costs close to $20 a person for a main each to share plus rice for everyone. You definitely have to order the marmite chicken, fuzhou tofu and the mustard mayo prawns. Highly recommended
Shawn Gutteridge
Thank you urbanspoon for putting me on to this gem.. Great food, fed 7 of us (3 were kids) for just over $160 ( 4 entress and 7 mains with 3 bottles of water) and even the kids couldnt fault anything about the food. service was prompt. will be regulars even thou we live in Mandurah.

Another awesome meal last night - never disappointed!

Hot n Spicy Pork Belly - 5/5
Garlic green veg - 3.5/5
Crispy lemon chicken - 4.5/5
Marmite chicken - 5/5
Sha cha beef - 3.5/5

Can't wait til next time
A
Fussy Diner
Ordered takeaway from here. Very ordinary ended up putting it in the bin. Avoid it.
DG
The food is nice but the restaurant itself is highly overrated. Service is the worst in China Town, worse than Utopia to put things in perspective. Good food but bad service makes for an overall bad experience.
John Lee
It has been a year since i last had my meal here. Oh boy! It still tasted as good as heaven! Love love loved this place!
Wardy
Nice food, but don't ask for a glass of Water. I've been here a few times now. The food is quite tasty but I find the service a little pushy and they are always trying to hurry you up to finish so they can re use your table for the next people. Also I have one thing that really bugs me. My wife asked for a glass of water and they said we don't have any, so she ordered a lemon drink with ice but it was too sweet and she asked them if they could top it up with water. Yes they can do that, then I asked if I could just have a glass of water and they said sorry we don't have any you have to buy it. But you just topped my wifes glass up with water, how can you not have water. I have never been to a restaurant that doesn't have water. It just goes to show here in Perth there is no customer service and they want to make money out of everything. If anybody want's to experience good service I would recommend going to the USA, they really know how to treat customers well and nothing is too much to ask for.
I may eat here again but I won't expect too much from the customer service.
Trini
Will be back.. This place is always busy so decided to go on a Wednesday night early, around 7pm. Was told we'd have to wait 15 mins but were seated in 5. Had the Pineapple duck and crispy pork belly. Both delicious. I'll be back with more people so that I can try more dishes. Staff did seem in a bit of a hurry to take orders which is not good for someone who hasn't been there before and trying to go through the menu.
Pamela Sullivan
Pam. We went here on a Saturday night. There were 15 of us and we booked late so they squeezed us in between another party. The place was busting with people. We got our meals quickly, staff were friendly and we had the best meal - soooo yummy!!!!! I would reccommend this restaraunt in a heartbeat. right up the back alley of a small Chinatown on Rowe Street but an excellent night.
Table80
Consistenly Delivers.... Time and time again. Generally service is fast and efficient, these guys know how to cope under pressure! I always come here when I get that Chinese/Malaysian food craving, and they continually meet my expectations. I don't think I can fault any of the many dishes I've had from this place. My most recent visit saw me feasting on the "Hawker's Tofu", which was silky, delicate, perfect! Their iced red tea and iced lemon drink are awesome, just writing this review is giving me Hawker's cravings again!!!
Pig And Monkey
Great food, large portions and reasonable prices! Highly recommend the Marmite Chicken.
Hawker's Cuisine
We would be quite surprise if you order shark fin soup and we were able to serve it to you... But we do serve a damn good Hot & Sour soup

-----01 Sep, 2013-----

Hawker's Cuisine has been shark fin FREE since the beginning of the year. Menu is not updated because diners might think we are putting up prices by printing new menus. Can't win.
Xander
Love this place, shame I found out shark fin soup is on the menu?? :(
Gloria W
Tasty treats and lovely staff
Whizz
Good food, poor service. They make a lovely tofu "Hawkers tofu" and the food is by and large up to par. Prices have gone up over the years though. Probably one of the better places for chinese food especially late at night. Still the best restaurant out of the cluster of chinese restaurants in Chinatown. Their teh tarik is also decent.

The only letdown - the service is very average. Don't expect too much.
Bree
Shark Fin Soup??! No thanks!. Was excited to eat at this place due to the high reviews, but will veto this place because of the Shark Fin Soup!
World123
Love the food. What can I say....the food was lovely, service was alright and we had enjoyable time. will be coming back again and again.
Timsee
Average Food. Tried the famous Beef Rendang...... it was just Ok nothing to rave about and the Squid Tentacles were juicy but were coated in MSG. I think the problem is that poor quality food is so prevalent now that when something is cooked which is mediocre it is elevated to BRILLIANT and DELICIOUS by many diners simply because its better than most of the garbage served up by many of Perths wannabe cooks. Won't bother coming here again, been here twice, both times were a disappointment.
Donna Of Doubleview
Stays Open Late. THE BEST. Don't want any more people to know about it as already so popular with waiting times at busy periods.. but squid dishes, Marmite chicken, all scrumptious. Also love that the kitchen is still firing well in to the night for late eaters like me.
Simple
Not shy with flavours. Probably the best Malaysian food available in WA.
Sue Brown
Disgusting service!!!!. After placing a phone order for a fillet of fish with sambal sauce, I get home and find that it's STING RAY. So I call the restaurant to advise them n to see if I can get a replacement or a credit and was shocked by the way they talked to me. The lady on phone didn't want to hear about it and hung up as I was talking! Never ever am I going there again!
Food Junkie
Awesome food. Always love the food but too bad they closes pretty early and the thing is we always have late night cravings!! haha But when i think of malaysian food Hawkers always comes to my mind.
Chantelle Collins
While the food was fantastic, the service was average. I went with a group of work friends (professionals) and were told to be quiet then rushed out, given the bill and looked up and down. Won't be going again!
MissS
Most of the time we don't even need to look at the menu. Just order marmite chicken, sambal kang kong, steam rice and three layer teh penh. Always happy!!trust me :)
Dcglobe
We snuck in for a quick bite before a show at the Perth arena. Having spent some time in Malaysia and Indonesia, i was interested to see what would pop up on the list of chef specials. We tried the marmite chicken, the salt and pepper beef and the roti with chicken curry. I thought all dishes were excellent but we probably ordered too much!
Janelle Bett
Amazing marmite chicken and beautifully cooked prawns. Service abrupt but efficient if you stay on the right side of them! No tap water my main annoyance. Worth the wait to get in.
Tom83
Always delicious food and service with a smile. Recommended.
Arthur Dermawan
The best malay chinese food in town. Gotta admit, this is my favourite restaurant in town. Always bustling busy with patrons and I can totally see why. It is amazing. The food always top notch. The service is magnificent. Altho they do not take bookings after 6:30 pm which is ashame, but I will and still will go there.
Rossco Gee
Went here for the first time last night
great food
excellent variety
quick service
will visit again soon
HorseOnToast
I Dream of Tofu. This is the kind of place I wish had a hotel attached so I could gorge myself on the delicious food and then roll into a comfy bed. The house made tofu is unrivalled anywhere in Perth and the marmite chicken is so delicious its worth the sodium-induced coronary. It really is.
Reality
Superb. Wow! Excellent food with a smile and excellent service. The restaurant doesn't look like much but it is definitely worth a visit. I thought I'd try something different - I had Western Butter Chicken and a tofu dish. Bloody brilliant chef. Yum. Will happily go back again.
MtLovely
Hawker gem. We enjoyed our first meal at HC last night. When we arrived it was heaving - a good sign, along with about 4-5 groups waiting for a table outside and the restaurant predominantly full of asians chowing down. We also noticed that the shop owner from our awesome local Mt Lawley asian supermarket was eating there so we thought 'brill!' While we waited for our table the bubbley front of service lady said we had a 15-20 min wait so she grabbed us a few stools, and few wine glasses and we sipped our BYO wine in the alley outside which was really pleasant on such a beautiful autumn perth evening. Food was tasty but a bit yellow for us... however the crispy pork belly was a lovely suprise... yummy jammy crispy pork folded into a fresh well dressed cucumber, coriander, pineapple type salad - yum! The marmite chicken is a strange one. It was tasty enough it but I dont know if it will call me back, there are alot more other dishes I'd like to try there next time. The tofu dishes for my vege friend looked outstanding. All in all yummy food, the staff were like a well oiled machine, happy and efficient, and $1 corkage per wineglass! Ripper!

Awesome food. Great staff! Best restaurant in northbridge.

One of the best restaurants in Northbridge!. My wife and myself have been visiting this joint for nearly 4 years. Not once we have been ever disappointed! Every meal here is great one. We are amazed with their consistency of good quality food. Great and quick service too!

Highly recommended!
My Thoughts
Amazing food!! Got to try the beef rendang the beef is so tender.. and the marmite chicken don't judge it until you try it! Will be going again for sure!! :)

Hot and sour soup!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BEST soup in Perth!

Tasty food. I don't usually believe when I see many glowing reviews so we had an opportunity to try this restaurant on the eve of Lunar New Year. From the time our order was taken, we waited about half an hour for the food to come out, but we don't complain because the food was so tasty and friendly service, they even apologize that the food took a bit longer. We will be returning to this restaurant to try their other menus.
Marcus
Been there for couple of times , food was delicious. Serial prawn is my favorite . Only complaint is waiting Time is 30min...

Great First Impression. I've always walked past this place and its always been packed. On the weekend, after seeing a Fringe show on the nearby car park rooftop my friends and I thought we'd try our luck at getting a table here.

Luck was on our side and we managed to get a table upstairs. Having never been here before, I didn't know what to order so was guided by my fellow diners. All the dishes seemed similar to the standard Asian cuisine that's common around Northbridge...that is, except the marmite chicken.

Yes, that's right. Marmite chicken. Trust me when I say this but I was extremely skeptical of such a dish BUT I went ahead with it (call it peer pressure) and wow. Words cannot begin to describe how great this dish is. I could have happily eaten the entire dish on my own. It was so good!!!

Aside from the food, which came out in a very short time frame considering that it was peak hour on a Saturday night, service was very good. The waitresses all had a great sense of humour and added to the laughs we had at the table with well timed appearances.

The price, overall...for seven of us came to about $150 (about $20ish per person) which is about the average price you'd expect to pay for dinner. I thought the price was very reasonable.

All up: great fast service, REALLY good food which topped off a great night out. I will definitely be back again for the marmite chicken!
Jocothefoodie
It's the best Rendang I have ever tasted. It's not as dried as a classic one but the balance of spices is perfect. Highly recomended. Eat with plain roti

This place is always packed, so be there early. the homemade tofu dishes are nice. not a lot of variety in flavors - mostly fried stuff with similar sauces. service can be a bit up & down - depending on how long the waiting line is outside...
Magsinoz
I have been here several times and have not been disappointed. The eggplant dish is amazing! Service is prompt and the food comes out together which is sometimes a challenge at other Asian places. Prices are just right for the big portions served.

Go Now. This place has fantastic food. Everything we ordered was tasty and well-flavoured. Chicken, squid, tofu and the Three Treasures all were spectacular.

Hawkers is the best eat in chinatown, northbridge. The food is excellent and will leave u full no doubt. Best dishes must be the western butter chicken, golden king prawns and the hot and spicy squid tubes. 8/10
Crazy Cat Lady
The prices are fairly reasonable here on busy nights there can be abit of a wait to get a table but I think its worth the wait. I really like the fried chicken wings here, probably the best I can find in Perth. the curry laksa and fried udon is a must try. I would consider hawkers one of my regular places.
Amanda Lee Sibosado
Couldn't stop eating!. Myself and 6 other women went early on a Wednesday night and we were sooooo impressed. The food was all so delicious that even when we were all full we just kept on eating. Price was great, quality of food brilliant.
I ordered take away from there the next week though and was disappointed. Just not the same quality as dining in.
Roelien Van Biljon
Amazing!. Booked for 6.30 on a friday night. Had read good things about hawker's and was not disappointed! Had the marmite chicken, beef randang and some garlic greens. Everything was delicious and the marmite chicken is a must! The portion were very generous and the price cheap in my opinion, will definately visit this place again and very soon!

Don't go here....so I can get a table immediately!!! Always amazing!!!!
Josh Donohoe
The marmite chicken is a definite must try!

Epic. Can never go past the Marmite chicken and the hot and spicy squid tubes!!!!

Hawkers. Limited space and we were pretty much kicked out after an hour! Maybe not the best place for a big group of people. However the food is yummy enough to make up to that !!

Absolutely great taste and fantastic value!the best place for a dinner with friends!

Yumm. Enjoyed delicious food here always.
Make sure you book and don't mind the somewhat cold service

Thinking about it makes me hungry. It is becoming harder and harder to get a table at Hawkers.
It is just amazing. Marmite chicken delicious, crispy pork belly salad scrumptious and salt and pepper beef my favorite.
Super tasty food and the owners are super friendly.
Highly recommended to everyone!
Love it.

Rude owner but not the worst. They cook things that perth's restaurants are lacking. Most Asian restaurant here r cooking hong kong (wanna be) inspired cuisine. Theirs are different. A few of their dishes are very good. Try their homemade Fuzhou tofu and soya duck. Don't mind the boss ... Coz u can't find anything else similar to them here :(
DJT
Good food; but substandard service. The owner came and told my table not to order any more food as the kitchen was full.
Dj
Food was good but service is bad! The owner was quite rude.. telling us not to order anymore food because the kitchen is busy?! What kind of restaurant does that. First and last time here.

Delivers again. Another great feed at one of my Perth favourites. There were seven of us and this time we went large on the salt n pepper squid tentacles for entree - highly recommended. Huge serve in just one entree size. One size would do four people. Curries, noodles and dry dishes all great and at a reasonable price. Wednesday night and a full house. Look forward to returning.

Always a favourite with us as the food is amazing and the place easily caters for large groups. Large round tables, menu that caters to all tastes (spicy and non-spicy). Love almost everything on the menu but our alltime favourites are marmite chicken and pork ribs, salted pork eggplant, red chili beef, squid tentacles.

Im Lovin It. Booked ahead by a few days so there was no issue of wait time for me. I was promptly ushered in by a friendly staff who in turn was equally prompt with our wine glasses.
We had some spring rolls (super fresh, tasty, crunchy) and a shredded chicken and jellyfish salad. Wow the salad was amazing. If it was available I could have even had that as a main.
For main we had the famous Marmite chicken which was super juicy and tender. The taste left an amazing symphony of tastes just dancing in my mouth....woah that was good. We had a rendang beef.....which hands down had to be the best curry I have had (besides my own :) It was plentiful, right amount of heat for me and was soooooo tender!! You just gotta taste it.
All mains could be shared between three perhaps four people.......great servings!
Thanks must go to the very friendly, efficient staff........they were attentntive without being overbearing!

Dont miss this gem..........stuck in a sweet corner of Chinatown :)

A long delay. I went to have a family dinner on Wednesday , not so busy on that day. We ordered a tooth fish, pork rib, tofu and a deep fried king prawn dishes, it took 35 mins to start cooking out the dishes, the fish and tofu are nice, but the pork spareribs and king prawn are over cook, too burn and hard. Question on my head is what take so long to cook 4 dishes when it wasn't busy?

Will go back there again give them one more chance
Perth Foody
Great flavour and value for money. Value for money, big on flavour and a great quick eat. We had the marmite chicken and the spicy szechuan beef with two side serves of coconut rice. All dishes were yum.
Josie
Subtle, moreish food. My husband and I stopped in at Hawker's for a quick dinner before a show in Northbridge. We were happy to be seated straight away and served quickly.

We ordered their famous marmite chicken and the homestyle stewed beef. We were planning to order a vegetable dish as well, but couldn't justify the $16 it would have cost.

Neither of the dishes were as strongly flavoured as we expected, particularly the marmite chicken. But as we ate more, the subtle flavours and aromas came through and I just couldn't get enough!

The marmite chicken serve was hot, crispy and huge, but we still polished it off, as well as all of the tender stewed beef in its rich spiced gravy.

This joint can be difficult to get into, but if you do, make sure to bring your appetite because you won't want to stop. I'm looking forward to returning and trying some of their other dishes soon.

Yum. I love this place! There are so many dishes to choose from and most of them are really good. Price is quite cheap and each dish is filling for one person!
Dont Believe The Hype
Surprised at how many likes.... Last few times ive been here the food has been below par. Not impressed. I have had much better experiences in the complex. I dont find that a lot of the dishes are authentic. We have been there with large groups and most werent impressed. I wont be back.

A goodie. Have eaten here on several occasions. This place is a little hidden in the middle of the food hall in Northbridge. It gets really busy and it's worth booking. A good sign is a lot of Asians go there and adds to the authentic atmosphere of the restaurant.

Looked on Urbanspoon to get some tips on what to order. Have eaten the fried rice, tofu and pork, garlic prawns, and kung po beef. Have tried take away from here but the food is best eaten in.

Overall a good Asian place which is able to cater for big groups. One to try however with so many in the area, it's just another to tick off the list.
Wino
Particularly loved the Tom yam clams with the fresh lemongrass and chilli. :-)
Peter
Now not good. Will never go back again. The food use to be very nice. Now it is just ok.
Pork salt pepper spareribs use to be spareribs cut, now they use pork belly with fat.
But most of all they will double book you with out telling you, and give you only 2 hours to do you things whit family and friends.
Talk a bit. Order food. Enjoy you food. Talk a bit more with family and friends.
Think of having dessert. And the go.
i think it is ok if they tell you upfront. We booked 4 weeks ahead. They didn't event call to tell you.
And please give more time.

This place is quick food tasty and cheap. It is what it is no pretence.

The best South East Asian cruisines in Northbridge. Been there too many times n still going.

Decent malaysian food. Went to this place twice ... only good for just causal dinner... nth fancy... decent yummy food.. not big servings tho.. ok for the price. it's always busy during late night.. so be prepared to have to wait for a table.. 1 of the best options in Chinatown
Isabelle
Food isn't bad, but I manage to fill my monthly sodium quota just by walking into the restaurant.
Annatasha
Yummy malaysian food. They offer the best malaysian food and price is very reasonable. been there few times and will go again.

A Family Favourite. This is a family favourite. We take the kids here at least once a month. The quality of food is great. You must try the salt and chilli squid and marmite chicken! I would recommend booking though. We always find a line up out the front when we leave.

Hawkers obsession. Love love LOVE this place! Go quite regularly either with a bunch of friends or just a few of us. Food is AMAZING! Popular choices are butter chicken, marmite chicken, golden garlic squid, golden prawn without shell, garlic kai lan, sizzling Japanese tofu. My mouth just watered even thinking about it!

Really Really likes it. This is the best chinese food in perth i think. This restaurant present the different style of chinese food which is great. You must try restraurant

A Real Eating Pleasure. With the unnanounced arrival of 2 relatives last night, Dragonlady, Ned and I found ourselves taking them to Northbridge for our first foray to Hawkers. I received an education and Dragonlady some more fire.

We were lucky to arrive early and were immediately seated inside at a table for 5. The place seemed quite empty and I was beginning to wonder, but when we left, it was packed and patrons queued outside. A lesson there.

We were welcomed with a large pot of Jasmine Tea, which was so good, Stepmum who is Indonesian, sent for another when we emptied it. While enjoying this, the 5 of us made our decisions.

Marmite chicken was a must, Stepmum's partner is english and he hasn't had Marmite for years, and after reading the reviews on Urbanspoon I was hanging out for this. The dish was a real treat, the chicken lovely and moist in a crunchy batter. The marmite flavour goes so well in this dish, you wonder how the hell it can taste so good.

I ordered the Sichuan Red Hot Beef. Dragonlady got a suprise here, she loves spicy food, but when this arrived one of the first pieces she grabbed out of the dish was a large piece of fresh stir fried ginger. It had that "bite" that good ginger gets, so she grabbed a piece of "capsicum" to offset it only to find she had one of the many fiery hot chillies that are a signature of this dish. Diners were treated to the elegant sight of Dragonlady , choking and spitting into her napkin, and skulling my Teh Peng. (Which was delicious by the way or so I am told).
The Sichuan Red Hot Beef lives up to it's name with tender good size pieces of thin beef fried in a hot chili mix and was a big favourite.

Ned (my daughter) ordered Beef Pho Phun as she is not into spice. This was a beautiful combination noodle dish where the noodles were not gluggy and stuck together, but seperated as you ate them, yet carried the flavours magnificently. Ned had to fight to score seconds on this dish.

Dragonlady ordered the Drunken Prawns, these were not inspiring. I haven't had food cooked in the "drunken" style before, this dish was served hot at the table over a flame. The prawns were large and good quality and cooked to perfection, but the flavour just seemed to be missing something to us. We could taste the wine, but the dish lacked a real signature to me. This may be how it is meant to be, but the dish is one we wouldn't order again.

A Hawkers Fried Rice joined the table, full of lovely chunks of pork, prawns, chicken, vegies, egg and all the other good stuff it was a lovely support for the mains if just a little bit oily.

The shock of the night and an education for me was the Hawkers Tofu which Stepmum ordered. Tofu to me in the past has been bland, tasteless and firm rubbery.
This dish was a revelation. The Tofu was crumbed and so creamy I initially paused after my first bite, just to savour the texture variety between the crunchy crumbs and the creamy tofu. The oyster sauce generously coated the dish and was outstanding. This will be a must order next time we visit.

Ned and I annoyed the staff by ordering an Iced Lychee and an Iced Lemon and Honey before leaving, because this meant we just took up a table for 10 minutes while we waited for the drinks. The Iced Lemon and Honey was nice and cleared my palate, which is what I wanted. The Iced Lychee was brilliant, and I am betting a return to Hawkers will see us ordering this at the start of the meal.

All in all, a great night out. (I checked the fresh fish on the way out too, and they looked fantastic, clear eyes good colour and no smell). Next time maybe.

Would definitely go back. I had a girls dinner a Hawkers about 3 weeks ago and the food we ordered to share was amazing. The marmite chicken was delicious and I can't wait to go back for some more. We were about 5/10 mins late for our dinner booking and they had given our table away but as soon as we showed up they went out of their way to get us another one and we were seated within 5 minutes. Absolutely recommend it.

OMG the marmite chicken!. This place does fantastic authentic hawker share dishes at a reasonable price. You can't go past their marmite chicken, the salt and pepper tofu was also a hit amongst our vegetarian and meat loving friends. I look forward to trying their highly talked-about butter prawns and western butter chicken on my next visit.

Oh and p.s. mixed vegetables = Asian greens only, so don't expect a cabbage, carrot and beans stir fry that our western friends were hoping for!
The Fatioralist
Authentic and Best. Long time favourite, best malaysian food around. Their "Bakar Fish" is the best version I have ever tasted, period.. a testament to their authenticity... however, it is essential that you choose Skate/Stingray as the fish and not Cod or Emperor. Not the most popular choice by usual standards but for this dish, it is 200% better when you choose the correct fish.

Other gems include: oyster omelette (must try! - Singaporean favourite), Marmite Chicken.. the list goes on.

Gotta love BYO as well. This place does no wrong.
Tannic Teeth
Stellar example. Another rock-solid example of a business doing its thing and as a result, having a queue of 10 deep out the front of the store.
Arrived at about 6pm friday (only 3 tables outside free at that time). Service efficent and no-frills Asian.
We had salt and pepper squid, and beef rendang.
The salt and pepper squid had good seasoning (with evident 5spice mix in the batter) with seared garlic, onion and chilli tossed over it. Superb.
The beef rendang also solidly good, star anise chunks still present in the gravy. A gut-bustingly good meal for $33 -- just the kind of quality you expect. Thumbs up.

Best cantonese wa dan hor and marmite chicken!

Our regular stop. Right in the back corner of chinatown sits a cramped, noisy little joint known as Hawker's.
Here, you'll find the BEST, authentic Malaysian and other asian cuisine. It is known to please even the toughest and pickiest of older Asian people. That already says quite a lot.
The decor is kept quite simple like a lot of non pretentious asian restaurants that make a living off purely good, honest food. The food is not only delicious but is made with that extra touch of love that reminds you of your asian grandmother's cooking.

Recommendations: Golden Snow Crab. Baked snow crab covered in a thin coating of soft yet somehow crispy salted egg yolk. Probably the best I've had in Perth.
Their Hainanese Chicken is steamed perfectly and the chicken is so tender.
Their steamed fish in soy with ginger is good too.
There is a version of Malaysian curry (chicken or beef) which is served with a crepe-like bread to dip, called Roti Canai. It definitely is a people pleaser - the curry very fragrant and the dipping bread incredibly moorish.

Please please make a booking before going, as I will guarantee you there will be a long line on all nights. But if you do wait, you won't regret it.
Thanks Connie and Monica for all the lovely food we have consumed over the years!!
Starsammy
Best Hokkien Noodles in Perth. The search for authentic kuala lumpur hokkien mee stops here - they are the closest to the original back home.

Other dishes are quite good too, and have often come here when we're in Northbridge and have never been disappointed with their food. Service can sometimes be abrupt but this can been overlooked because of their awesome food
Jack
The BEST and most authentic Malaysian cuisine in town! Friendly service and late hours! Amazing A+++ my partner and I go atleast twice a week.
Mr Fussy
I agree with the other reviews. The only reason you'd come to what has become a depressingly seedy part of Northbridge.
Trust Me
Only place I would dine in China Town. I love this restaurant. It's value for money, authentic and it's the only best Chinese/Malaysian restaurant in China Town and North Bridge (besides HK BBQ). Uncle Billy was the best by far until he sold his restaurant.

I suggest calling up and booking a table as it's always packed.

ps: the other chinese restaurants in China Town are extremely dirty and greasy. "Trust Me"! They aren't as good as the previous owners were back in the early 2000.
Butabara
Delicious, but.... When you're heading to a restaurant everyone raves about, it often pays to remember specific dishes that are the house specialities- Hawker is no exception. With a loooooong, yet very enticing menu, it's easy to be distracted from the classic dishes.
Some of the dishes most people go mad for at Hawker are the butter prawns and marmite chicken and I would not argue the toss- these morsels are delicious. However, ask the advice of your very friendly waitress and you may get lumbered with some less than satisfying 'chinese Australian' dishes.
And if you're an MSG phobe stay away from the Salt n Pepper tofu (or I imagine, Salt n Pepper anything)- I'm still having hallucinations...
Js0n1
Really tasty. I love coming here for the marmite pork or chicken, but pretty much everything I've ever ordered here has been delicious. My international student mate from Malaysia took his parents here when they came to visit and they said it tastes just as good as a restaurant back home.
Eight Seconds Of Food
One of the best in Northbridge!. Have been coming here regularly with friends over the past few years. I would say it's my favourite out of all the ones in the Chinatown area (and probably the same for many other ppl given that there always seems to be a queue outside this restaurant!).

Food is consistently good and they have a great selection of local Malaysian drinks (eg. Teh, Teh O, Teh C Peng, Milo Peng...)

They do a great Fried Mee Suah!
Eve Lin
Cheap yummy food after clubbing is gd!. I'm not a chicken or eggplant lover (read: they rank the lowest on my list of meats and veg) but I actually enjoy the marmite chicken and chilli eggplant here.
Poached Perth
Yum!. We came with 9 people and can't believe that all that phenomenally good food that we all shared (on the waitress' advice) cost less than $18 per head, well worth the 1/2 hour wait! Our favourite was the prawns with coconut, or as we named it: "dessert prawns!" But all the dishes were winners :)

Recommended. Cheap and good, I like it here, food tasty

Eat and run. The food is good, only problem is the feeling of being rushed to finish your meal, so be prepared to dine and dash.

There is a rule of thumb - that an Asian restaurant full of Asian patrons must be good. Hawker's Cuisine has Asian patrons lining up for a table, for good reason - the food is seriously good and well priced. Well worth going to - enjoy!
Eat Scout
We let the crowds decide where to eat and joined the short line at Hawker’s Cuisine. The two level restaurant boasts an outdoor area, loud atmosphere and is BYO (grab your beers from the food court behind the restaurant!). We ordered the Singapore chilli prawns, the Shaoxing drunken chicken and our favourite of the night, the hot spicy squid tentacles. Whilst we really enjoyed the chilli prawns (the chicken dish was a little bland in flavour), give us a huge bowl of the squid tentacles and a few Singha beers and we’d be more than happy. Our server was really friendly and despite the busy night, the wait for a table is short. Since visiting, I have heard good things about the marmite chicken. Next time we’re keen for Chinese food, we’ll be back to try it! 17/68 Roe Street, Northbridge

Hawker’s Cuisine is considered by many in Perth to serve some of the best Malaysian food in Perth (and some say Australia). I’ve been several times and have never had a bad meal – in my opinion the food served here is just as good as anything I’ve had in Malaysia.
Shiau Cheng
We loved what we had and were very pleased with the serving size. The Satay is not as good compared to those I had in Malaysia but it is definitely good enough for the crave. Would love to go again for some noodles next time.
Huge mistake – can’t remember the name of this very delicious tofu dish!!!
I didn’t know what to order because the menu didn’t include any pictures. So I asked one of the waiters what this dish’s name was as a couple was having this dish on the other table next to us.

How to eat?

Scoop some soft tofu from the block and the sauce which contains minced pork and then mix with steamed rice.
Hungryagainperth
They offer a really good selection of homestyle dishes and I don't think I've come across a bad dish here. It does get annoyingly busy though (but good on them!) and it takes ages to wait for a table, especially during peak eating hours. Everyone sorta hangs around outside or stands at the doorway or stands next to the fish tank staring at the mundane creatures inside, which stare straight back at ya. Seafood always seem to be full of hate and angry facial features, but you would be too, if you knew you were being bred to be fed to others

Hawker’s Cuisine is a Malaysian restaurant located in an alley among a cluster of other Asian eateries within Perth’s Chinatown. From what I could tell the suburb of Northbridge is somewhat like our Footscray; in other words, slightly dodgy but with plenty of good-quality Asian dining options.
Neysavaleria.lcbmeta
To be honest, I am sure I should make another visit next time with empty tummy and more dishes variety. Overall I enjoyed the dining experience, for the foods, viscous Chinese atmosphere and prompt yet friendly service.

That gives me an idea…watch this space for a treat off between Hawkers Inn and Singapore China. I’m hungry just thinking about it!

From drinks to mains, there’s plenty of things on the menu to satisfy the purists and Malaysian food newbies alike.

I really enjoyed my meal at hawkers cuisine. I found that the staff are really friendly there, I had the menu chosen for me as i was with hawkers cuisine veterans but I imagine that if it was your first time there the friendly staff would guide you through the menu. I recommend that everyone should go and try this place.

Vanilla sponge soaked with Grand Marnier, filled with custard, white chocolate mousse and fresh strawberries decorated with roasted almonds, strawberries and chocolate hearts which was a valentines day touch. The cake was very moist inside and the cream was amazing as always. The Cake Factory makes the best cupcakes I’ve had in Perth yet.

Hawker’s Cuisine is fantastic value for money, they’ve recently renovated the restaurant and the Malaysian food is quality (and they make their own roti). Even better than the infamous Mamak in Sydney! :) Service is a bit slow took half an hour for our meals to come out but you don’t go there for the service!

Skirting around the faux pas food-wine matching, Shiraz and Asian is an unlikely combination. But it's a folly well played. I know food and wine matching goose-steppers would resound crisp Riesling or Sem Savvy Blancs with Asian food, so it was with stubb

...I thoroughly recommend Hawker’s Cuisine for a fairly cheap and casual night out. I certainly will be a regular, and with their enormous menu, there is no danger of ordering the same thing twice. Bonus marks for the lack of MSG and ability to BYO.
