Review The Aviary - Perth

Good vibe and ambience to this place with lovely outdoor dining area especially if you are able to catch the sunset. Food was good and well presented.

The Aviary's bottomless brunch is not to be missed! The bubbles were delicious, as was the menu selection and food. It's the perfect morning out. Gather your friends and do yourself a favour! 🥂🍾

Had the rudest person deliver our food and drinks, not once but three times. Slamming food and drinks on the table and leaving without asking if we needed anything else. Cocktail jug was plain, no garnish, just a bunch of ice. Used to be a great place for drinks and pizza but the service we received was disgusting. Please do better!

Held our xmas work-do at The Aviary. About 25 people. We had a private area to the right of the bar sectioned off all to ourselves. Although a cool night and situated on a rooftop, this area is still undercover and therefore we weren't cold at all. For $50 a head we had 6 -8 large trays of hot finger food brought out to us in intervals. We bought our own drinks at the bar, despite there being a card on our tables to scan and order drinks and have them brought to us - but it didn't work, which was disappointing. Even when we told staff, they said it was switched off (why???). Beef sliders, zucchini sliders, mini aracinis, nori rolls, mini zucchini balls with Mayo, mini corn balls with avocado...the food was delicious and we couldn't eat it all there was so much. The service staff were friendly and smiling. My only complaint is the volume of the music in our function area and how hard it is to talk/hear with it so loud. In a function area you shouldn't have it as loud, so people can talk (I'm not saying have it soft.. I understand it's a pub and music is entertainment). Overall, very happy with our night - thankyou!

I've only been to the Aviary once before, the last night was genuinely such a good vibe. The songs were amazing, the transitions between them were even better! Drinks are A+, definitely recommend coming here especially for pres!

Beautiful place to spend a nice sunny day. This rooftop bar gives a great view and always has a nice breeze on a hot day. We recently had a function here and were very impressed with the whole team. All the staff (from the manager to the bar and wait staff) were absolutely amazing and made us feel so welcomed. We loved that they walked each plate of food around first before setting it down. Our guests loved the food - it was so delicious they made many compliments about it. Whether it is a casual day out or a function, we couldn't recommend The Aviary enough.

We came here for a work event and hired the function room. Great location in the CBD and conveniently nearby the train station. Service was outstanding and were great at keeping an eye on a couple of us who may have had a couple drinks too many after a long week. Also the canapes that came out during our time were consistently awesome and thoroughly enjoyed them. Thank you for a good night out.

The Aviary is an institution. You can't ask for a better staff, and the ambience is incredible. Special shoutout to Vish for the drinks and the great service!

Beautiful relaxed roof top setting, Lovely staff & Amazing food at great prices! Burgers are to die for! (and I’m fussy with my burgers) Definitely recommend this place! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My fav bar great atmosphere , the best cocktails but had pizza for the first time last night and absolutely no toppings on it It was like just eating sauce on top of pizza base
Steve Matulich
Before the Freo v Essendon match we ventured to the Aviary for lunch and a beer and to soak up the sun on a terrific Perth autumn afternoon. Burgers were delicious and the service was excellent with food being delivered within 10 minutes of being ordered which was quick considering the joint was full. Only gripe was the cost with burgers ordered being over $20 each which is a tad rich considering they're, well burgers. But overall our experience was a positive one on a sunny afternoon 🍻🍴👍

Great atmosphere and friendly staff! But need to bring back Canadian club dry back on tap

My wife and I are 57, probably the oldest people there. This is more a 20-30 something place. Beer selection was very good and the bar tender was very helpful in helping me select a beer.
Sam Howley
My favourite place atm , awesome music , but can have a conversation at the same time ,great feeling being outdoors way up high amongst the city sky scrapers ,mixed age group and fun atmosphere , friendly staff and mix good drinks !!! 😃😃
Rhett Walker
The beer prices are ridiculous, same price for a schooner is a pint In WA, even breakwater in Hillary’s is cheaper, but the food was good
Harriet Watson
Very unprofessional security staff, antagonising loyal patrons to find a reason to kick them out!
Kristie Swanson
Loved it! Went on a Saturday night. Wicked music, the DJ was awesome! Short wait at the bar, security/bouncers were sensible, good crowd, great vibe. I'll definitely be back!
Lisa Hall
Amazing place. Staff were all so friendly and helpful. We loved that we didn't have to get up to get drinks or food thankyou!!. Definitely be back. Cheeseburger pizza was delish!!

I love the Aviary, its a bit expensive but where in Perth isn't, my friends ordered some food and unfortunately the Lasagne Croquettes were tasteless, she did tell this to a couple of waitresses who said they would tell the chef but never heard anymore, I would have thought they would have done something about it, like the chips she then ordered she had to pay for, I think myself they should have been free, the only reason all the croquettes got eaten was because everyone had a bite and agreed they were tasteless.
Gill Paul
Met my partner here a few years ago so, we thought we’d pop in after a show to reminisce and he popped the question!! 💍 It’s definitely a much younger crowd now but still a good vibe & great service!
Susan Hodges
I loved the Lioness cocktail. The food was Ok. But great atmosphere and lovely staff.
Rodney McGregor
Nestled high above the hustle and bustle of Perth’s Underground train station, The Nest rooftop bar is an oasis between the surrounding skyscrapers. Friendly service, automated mist spray for hot days and good atmosphere. Bit on the pricey side but great experience.

Had a lovely relaxing night great staff good food drink service was excellent thank un

Highly recommended ❗️<br/><br/>We ordered the beef tacos 🌮, crispy calamari 🦑 & Smokey bbq pizza 🍕 <br/><br/>The beef taco was absolutely amazing and would definitely recommend to many! The jalapeños made the taco spicy 🌶 which is what gave it a really good taste with the sauce! Another taco would’ve been great 👍🏾 <br/><br/>The crispy calamari 🦑 was delicious too! It was crunch and tasted amazing with both sauces but my favourite sauce was the chilli jam ! It is a very nice starter and not too filling. <br/><br/>The Smokey BBQ pizza 🍕 was to die for though. The flavours were absolute amazing! Crust was done well ! Flavours were there and was cooked to perfection! Would love a little more meat on there however and this would have been perfect <br/><br/>Would definitely come back more and more u til everything off this menu has been ticked!

Nice place for a drink with friends, but very over priced, place starts to lose its buzz after a while service is good, but would say there are better places to drink in Perth.
Thegreeats
We went for the easter drink specials<br/>The pizza was suprisingly good but not overly amazing <br/>The chocolate egg martini was far too sweet and the egg was white chocolate; too sickening to finish<br/>But being a roof top bar loved the ambience!<br/>A good place to head out for drinks and nibbles not necessarily for the food<br/>The staff were all very friendly <br/>Would I come back? Probably!

Good to see a new menu at The Aviary - with some healthy options. I'm loving the Sangria served by the glass, which is delicious ! Drinks are on the pricy side but it's a nice spot to sit on hot days under the shade with the mist outlets cooling you down.

We came here for a drink after work for a colleague's birthday. I really enjoyed my cocktail, would've liked to try some of their others, next time. I thought the setting and atmosphere was nice. Staff were friendly too.
@Foodieguide_lily
While the bar staff were polite and helpful, the staff don't smile and the cocktails were awful. The happy hour is pretty good but they reserve pretty much every table on a Friday so if you want to come have a drink with friends there is nowhere to put your drinks, no matter how early you arrive. We found one table at 4pm but didn't realise it was only that a reserved sign had flown off with the wind. Two female staff rudely came over to get rid of us and weren't polite so we were made to feel like criminals. While they apparently had a reputation here previously for good espresso martinis, they have a keg version now which I can honestly say was the worst cocktail I've ever had. I finish everything I buy but I couldn't stomach this - it tasted like stale, old coffee with the ingredients separated. The table someone was nice enough to give us as they left was sticky from before them, and while we got some chips with a nice mayo it took quite a while. I won't be back.
MAD
It is located just at one of the busiest streets of Perth, had an over looking view of the street and the other buildings.<br/><br/>I visited this place during day time in a weekday to grab a bite and enjoy the open air roof top.<br/><br/>Staff were friendly and smiling.<br/><br/>You will enjoy it day and night time as long as it is a clear sky.<br/><br/>I had the DIRTY DUCE,THE DOUBLE BEEF,THE DOUBLE CHEESE WITH BACON AND FRIES.<br/>This burger was delicious and I recommend it for burger lovers.<br/><br/>Even though it was not cheap,it cost me 24$ just for the burger and fries.<br/><br/>I initially wanted to have the cheesesteak sub but it wasn't available.<br/><br/>It is a spacious place but they could do better with making a better use if the wasted space in the middle of it.<br/><br/>Music was playing and not really loud which makes it pleasant to enjoy a drink,a smoke and a conversation with your friends.
Lakmonsta
Something changed here in the past few months. It used to be almost a go-to for Fridays, now it's a last resort. The snacks are not bad, the music and the crowd are awful. Unless you like a bit of sleaze with your pork slider...

Came here for my birthday lunch with friends location and set out was great, service from the staff was good aswell. Ordered some burgers and wow that won us over very tasty soft seed bun with cooked fresh homemade pattys with little pink in the middle cooked perfectly with that american cheese and bacon to go with it it dressed with there own mac sauce it has truly blown me away butter milk fried chicken was also very good crispy with the dipping sauce it tasted great. There is some competition with east village and ribs and burgers downstairs i have tried both but the aviary wow <br/>I would have never thought that this place would do amercian style tucker dont stop will see you again thanks.
Steve Brewster
They charge $1 extra for tomato sauce if you order fries lol. There was a pubic hair in my burger (see photo) lol. The manager refused to give us discount lol. Get a grip.
Mick Harfield
Had a Great night with a terrific atmosphere and some Very Classy Talent within. Typical Perth process for drinks, great DJ mixed music to dance to. <br/>DEFINETLY worth a stop in your night out. 👍 👍 👍
Lady Marmalade
Visited midweek with a friend, $45 for two glasses of wine, fries and lasagna croquettes. Bar staff very dull, no smile. Venue was lovely. Fries were crispy, not so keen on the curry mayonnaise, and lasagna croquettes were very tasty. Will go there again. Had a function there after and canapés were blah. Tofu spring rolls, sweet and sour prawns (I think that's what they were) and black bean beef dumplings. Quite lacking in flavour but the beef dumplings were difficult to eat, the filling spilled out of the pastry and it was slippery to hold. Also dripped all over another persons outfit.<br/>

A good roof-top bar where you can find some people in Perth. I could get a place to sit for about 40 mins. Ambiance is good. I just had a few drinks and it is an expensive place. I didn't order any  food, so cant comment on the food. I will come again.
Rachael
Yum! The baos here are nicer than What the bao in freo markets. And cheaper. But smaller. <br/>The service was great: the bar staff knew the menu well and could recommend anything. Perhaps it was a combination of central location, perfect weather, not too crowded, available seating, hot and prompt food, good customer service and company. But generally two thumbs up!
THE ILLUSIVE FEMME
Expensive, a bit pretentious and nothing too exciting. Been here on more than one occasion and they could do a lot with the place but it's just not amazing. Love the location (obviously). Half the bar staff have no idea what they are doing (don't ask for non standard cocktails)! The food is average. Pizza is pretty decent. A nice spot for a beer but that is about it.
Shaylee Hohapata
As a roof top bar this place is pretty good but everytime I go I find something that annoys me.<br/><br/>The fact they don't serve pints but will still charge $10 for a scooner is annoying. Their cocktail jugs are delicious but expensive, their "zombie" cocktail is $50.<br/><br/>I barely order food from here but this time I decided on the onion rings and popcorn shrimp. The onion rings weren't soft and the batter on both was too battery for my liking however, I have had the pumpkin pizza and the AFC chicken and before of those were delicious.<br/><br/>You use to be able to smoke on the wooden panels at the back but now it's only in the corner.<br/><br/>All in all I like this place for the view but I continuously have to keep reminding myself why I come back here....good company?
James Symonds
Drinks on tap are ok, nothing special, as is the food. The redeeming quality is the venue layout and location, making it a great place for a lunch time drink.
Scott Waylen
Food was great, atmosphere was great, even the 90's music was appreciated but after a few beers and pizzas with family, I came out of the gents and was told to leave. Escorted out without no provocation. Seems they target specific people to let in more young females. Same thing happened to my brother and my father not 20 minutes later. Will never tolerate that behaviour and vow to never go back as long as I breathe. Farcical is the word that comes to mind.
J Smith
I had an awesome time during their monthly music gigs, saw Lanks and Airling for free! If you're ordering a wine or beer then it's all good. Don't bother with the cocktails I ordered a gin martini which was on the menu and the bartender had to google how to make it. It was horrible, I drank it like a shot so it wasn't a waste of $16. Our group ordered a punch bowl and it was watery and not much fruity as promised.<br/><br/>The cider sangria punch was good.

There is a couple of Rooftop bars around the city these days (thanks Melbourne) and the Nest above The Aviary is a great example of Perth's new drinking culture. It's a perfect venue for a Sunday sesh with plenty of tables in the sun, and with cool places to hang with your mates. We ordered some bar snacks and enjoyed them all, especially the hot sauce that came with the chicken and the chorizo. The chips and onion rings all got a pass mark. I could drink here all day!

Wish I could give 0! Wouldn't let us wear our footy scarves in, umm what the?!?!?! Horrible attitude from the rude bouncers- will NEVER RETURN!
Lorraine Michelle
A good place to drink and eat a bit while enjoying the views of cbd. Although when we arrived at the rooftop, it was already packed and hard to find seats at 10:30pm. Maybe it's the time or day. But it would be lovely to put more seats and some more space.:)
S Anderson
The roof top bar is set out very nicely, a good layout with a good selection of different seats, tables and cosy daybeds. The bar looks cool, and the views are nice at night especially. <br/>The food was average, a little overpriced for the quality and quantity received. The cocktail I ordered was tiny! The smallest I've ever seen at a bar, for the same price. Beer prices seemed on par with other venues, but cocktails were overpriced. <br/>The staff were friendly, but stayed around the bar area and didn't notice a rowdy group behind us who broke glasses, kept swearing loudly and pushed each other.<br/>Very mixed crowd, mostly a nice atmosphere but security needs to be better.
LittleGirlBigFood
As opposed to the restaurant this roof top bar has it going on. Not quite my sort of crowd but the atmosphere is not lacking and the bar food menu is yummy.
Grendel
It is not good enough for the location and views to define what is on offer. The Aviary is such a great concept, in a fantastic location and with real potential but is let down by raised expectations and under delivery on the plate. I hope it improves as it is such a great spot.<br/><br/>I feel it lets the staff down somewhat in that regard as the service was good which meant I really wanted to like the joint, but alas...
Ang
Too loud - some tool smoking in an area clearly displaying no smoking sign !
Gary Sandford
Big mistake Big mistake....HUGE!<br/>Walking through the city looking for somewhere to eat on a public holiday.<br/><br/>This is all bad! <br/><br/>Food so average you'd be better going to Maccas! <br/>Prices so high you'd better take out a second loan.<br/><br/>Crap Crap Crap
Some Like It Hot
Rough as guts. Only went for a drink and couldn't believe how awful it was. Definately not a classy place.  Did not stay for longer than one drink.  Leaving venue and walking down steps in a nice dress, unfortunately encountered a member of staff walking up swinging a dirty bucket.  Horrid

Overall, the lack of atmosphere drove us away early and we will be unlikely to return, the higher prices are another incentive to try other small bars in Perth. There are plenty of small bars in Perth with good atmosphere and fair prices, the Aviary is not one in my opinion.

Give it a miss. Myself and a friend had lunch at the Rooftop Bar yesterday. Not an enjoyable experience.<br/>After sitting and waiting for 20 minutes we finally had to find someone to serve us. We ordered 3 plates of food to share and a bottle of wine for $48!!! This same bottle retails at Dan Murphy's for $9, a 500% markup! Outrageous !<br/>The food was nice albeit it expensive. I realise also that it is an outside area but I think there should be a designated smoking area as it stunk up there. Surely the experience of a roof top bar should be enjoyed by all.<br/>Once our plates were removed we did not see another wait person . No offer of more drinks, coffee, or anything at all.<br/>We both said we would not return to this bar, as it was so overpriced, stunk of cigarette smoke and the wait staff were none existent.
Dian Knipe
Was only there for pre-dinner drinks but found it relaxing and convenient. <br/>Service was good though they did try to charge for a bottle when only a glass had been ordered.

Could have been avoided. My manager is leaving our store so we all decided that the aviary bar would be a good place to have drinks. So we all travel down to the bar and notice that there's no bouncers to card ua at the door so I think cool there must be a non licenced area where I can go as I failed to bring my I.d with me. Its all cool we go in friendly atmosphere, I know a guy who works behind the bar and he was excited to see us all and I'm in good spirits. I go to order a drink at the bar and the girls like cool and starts making it. Then after making it she finally cards me. I say I don't have any I.d so she said she couldnt serve me alcohol but that I could still stay in the bar. That fine, thats cool, I'm the chode who forgot my I.d. I understand the law and all that hooey. So I get a drink of water and go and stand by my big group of friends. My managers there, we're chllin'. Then after like 20 mins the girl at the bar comes over with a manager or bouncer or whatever he was and she says that because the bar is fully licenced I must leave. And he asks if I have a passport and I say no (I work in the city and don't bring my passport with me like anywhere except the airport) so he also says I have to leave right infont of my manager and work colleagues. Not only have I been made a fool but now I cant even just stand with my group. This whole mess could have been avoided if they had just posted a bouncer at the door which I thought was the damn law. I never write bad reviews for places but this just really upset me.

Friday night Yuppie town. I'm not normally the kind of person who posts to these sites but Fri night really got my goat. <br/><br/>We went to go to the Aviary for a nice dinner and were told we could not enter the rooftop bar due to my Husbands enclosed shoes . The security officers and hostess were very polite about it but when I politely told them that was a bit rough and we would not be returning they really didn't seem to care. I know I am only one of thousands who visit and am of no particular importance but it would be nice to show some initiative to be polite to your guests when turning them away. <br/><br/>I have been to the Aviary three times now and been disappointed every time. Its loud, overpriced, the staff are rude and the food very average. I guess they are trying to create a trendy atmosphere but to be honest it was lost on myself and we will not be returning.
Samandnancy12
The most expensive beer in the World.. We bought a Peroni and a cider. ..and paid $20. After looking at the glass size. .300ml..i work this out to be approximately $18 a pint. What a rip off.

Fantastic !!. I can't believe the Aviary has a score of 39% ! A group of friends and myself, visiting from Melbourne, went to the Nest Rooftop Bar for New Years Eve. The package was $165 which included 4 hours of alcohol and canapes. It was an absolute BARGAIN ! The service was AMAZING. The place had a fantastic ambiance and feel to it. We are already thinking forward to NYE 2015 !! Thanks for a fabulous night out !

A group of friends and I (visiting Perth from Melbourne) visited The Aviary on NYE. The set up and decor on the roof top was great (loved the addition of jungle themed decorations for the night!). The staff all got into the spirit and wore jungle themed costumes and outfits too. The staff were all super friendly and attentive all night, the service was fantastic. Our $165 package included canapés and drinks. Being from Melbourne, we were half expecting to only be offered a couple of pieces of food and lengthy queues/long waits for drinks. That definitely wasn't the case though! There was so much food and it was all delicious - we regretted eating dinner at home beforehand! We didn't even have to get up from our table to get our drinks from the bar - the amazing staff were frequently coming around to our table to look after us. The music, atmosphere and crowd were all awesome too. It was a busy night, but not packed. Plenty of room to move (not that we left our table much!) and no queues in the toilets which was a bonus. The whole night was awesome and my only complaint would be that it went way too quickly because it was so much fun! Best New Years ever! We would recommend The Aviary to anybody and everybody. Thanks again to all of your awesome staff who made the night such a great success :)

No Point. I came here for lunch a while ago and was really disappointed with the service especially. The lady who took our order who seemed to be some sort of manager was not sure what was in the dishes and have the wrong advice about the contents. There was issues with food running out but we weren't informed till after ordering. So I ended up with a dish that had a large quantity of ingredients I wanted to avoid.

Surprisingly good!. This place is way better than before. Good tapas style dishes, fresh ingredients that are not overcooked, great drinks and very friendly staff. I'm pleasantly surprised by the change. Have to visit again soon.
Penny
Had a nice lunch here today with my mum and my nephew. We ordered pizza, chips and a round of drinks. Paid with a voucher which didn't cause any problems (as vouchers often tend to). Food was hot and prompt, drinks cold and prompt. Really good service from a waitress called Amy. Very friendly. <br/><br/>(Huge improvement from my experience at the attached Birds Nest restaurant).
Josh Watson-Kubat
Myself and a friend walked to the bottom of the steps, there were two bouncers at the top, one threw his hands in the air and screamed "WE ARE CLOSED!" So we thought that's weird, it's only 9:30pm.. We walked across to the Boheme and saw about 5 females walk up the stairs and enter. We went back and there was one bouncer, we ascended the stairs and the bouncer at the top interrogated us "how many drinks have you had? Is this your first stop? Where have you been?" We were sober, he was rude and aggressive. He finally let us through to the glorious aviary where about 50 people were relaxing even with its "closed" status. Absolutely terrible service. Bouncers need a review of their lives.
Cdm17
Terrible staff! Horrible Service!. Would never go back to this place - the service is terrible! Much better bars than this one in the area!
IMONGRY
No Pints?. Yet another bar in Perth selling schooners at pint prices... this is turning into an epidemic!
IEatFood
Ups and downs. I went here with some friends on Sunday for a light meal and some drinks and although the atmosphere is nice it doesn't match up to the amount you have to pay. I'll breakdown the points as we ordered various dishes and drinks.<br/>Kentucky Jug - $40 and well worth the money as you get roughly 6 drinks from it and also delicious. It mixes peach, orange, bulleit bourbon and lemonade.<br/>Cider of tap - Schooner is $9 which is the same price for a pint everywhere else so to me that is a major rip off.<br/>Jack's & Coke - Again on the expensive side, that came to $10.<br/>Onion rings - $8 tasty but they were extremely oily and there was a large pool of it at the bottom of the bowl<br/>Chips - $11 again I think that is a bit much to be charging for chips especially since they were a crinkle cut (maybe store bought?)<br/>Pizza - (Around $20) We all loved the BBQ chicken pizza, although the chicken pieces were a little too large to be placed on a pizza it was still enjoyable.<br/><br/>Overall I would go back to this place for jugs of cocktails only when it comes to drinks, as everything else is just way over priced. Maybe some of the shared snacks but because of the oil I would rather stay away from it. If this place didn't have the appeal of its location and atmosphere I don't think it would last.<br/>I don't think I would make the effort to go back, there are other rooftop bars in Perth now so make the effort to go somewhere else if that's why you are choosing the aviary.
Elissa
The only good thing about this $150 poor investment is the musician. Everything in batter is meant to taste delicious. Here it's close to snot

A Place Where You Always Feel That You Are Being Fleeced!. We have been here a few times for drinks as friends of ours like it here. However, on every occasion I have the feeling of being ripped off. The drink prices are highly inflated ($10 for tap beer that is not even a pint) and the food is very average. Went there last night as many other bars in the area such as The Generous Squire were packed and we could not get a table. As a last resort the longing for a beer got the better of me and we went to The Aviary, same sullen staff and same average feel to the place. <br/>Hats off to them for luring fools like us up over those stairs once again!
Sarah
Poor attitudes and ordinary food.... With only a schooner serve at pint prices I had hoped the meals would show some promise.<br/><br/>The rump special with bernaise sauce and salad sounded easy and, with a $20 price tag, exceptional value.<br/><br/>Turns out the Aviary should stick to their deep fryers. I asked for medium-rare, I got semi-burnt well done. The salad was 3 halves of cherry tomatoes and some rocket with some shoestring chips.<br/><br/>Told our waitress that this was pretty appalling since I asked for MR but I couldn't be bothered to wait for another steak and after showing her the steak she actually asked if it was too underdone for me!!<br/><br/>not impressed by the ditzy staff or food quality!!
Dalejdee
Daylight robbery!. This would have to be the greatest rip off I have ever experienced in 54 years...soda water and mint sprigs at a charge of $18. When I complained to the barman merely shrugged his shoulders..I will never return.
Peesserfamily
If you like salt this is the place!. Came up for a nice leisurely Sunday lunch before hitting the shops, great service, lovely location good choice of drinks but food soooo salty, very disappointing. Told the waiter and just got sorry new chef!
Brentlor
After Work Drinks tonight. What has happened to the price of the Aviary's drinks on the rooftop. Went there only a year or so ago and a bottle of wine was $38. Then a few months back $48. Tonight we couldn't find anything decent for under $70. Outrageous prices. Sorry Aviary Rooftop, we're gone. Won't come back, you've priced yourselves out of our market. Plus you had 2 functions sectioned off and there wasn't a seat in the place. Nup its lost us.
Rubilocks
Good food. Terrible service, but good bar food. Kitchen has gotten a lot better the last few months.<br/><br/>Shame about the bar staff....
Itravelspaceandtime
Really Average. Extraordinarily average in almost every way. A great location and concept unfortunately marred by ordinary service, ridiculous queues, seriously over-priced drinks (with Perth prices in mind), CuB crowd and average security on the door. <br/><br/>Also, it seems like The Aviary is trying to push down the negative reviews, with just about every sub section of their website independently listed. I wonder why? <br/><br/>This is a shame, because almost all of the criticism warranted. The Aviary would be an excellent venue if changes were put in place. <br/><br/>Bob's Bar or Stables at this point.
KnifeandFork
Expensive. $10 for 300ml of beer, that's just over 1/2 a pint for $10, enough said - wont fo back!!
Rob
As a first time visitor from Melbourne, I don't know how this place survives. Standing at the bar for 15 minutes on a quiet Monday night being ignored was terrible. The two barstaff didn't care who was waiting next and randomly served people. Other bar staff saw us, smiled several times but kept walking. Eventually we asked whether we were in a non service area and we're told we weren't, but she then proceeded to serve someone else. We were in the mood to spend money on several bottles, and we did. But at another bar. Never again. Don't waste your time.
Rainbowlorikeet
Bah!!! Don't bother. Better AND cheaper food elsewhere.
River Daisy
Service? What service? <br/><br/>Standing at the bar and waiting over 15 minutes is hardly "service", is it?
Cmoorerus
Over rated...... A lot of hype but not much substance.
Dave
The worst place in Perth I have ever been to. Separate lines for water to other drinks is disgusting. Had better service at hungry jack or maccas!!!!!!
Jay
Haven't had good service yet, one occurrence was asked if I wanted to start a tab but was then refused my debit card as it was not 'credit' and I had to order and pay at the counter. A debit is used in the same sense, if I do a runner you can still take payment from my card! Pizzas a yummy though and it's a great venue for an after work drink in the sunshine. It's a shame the service lets it down
Sherry
Don't understand "Hospitality". Went in with two friends for a drink before dinner. First, I really don't understand why bars in Perth don't have table service and then it took over 15 minutes to get 3 cocktails that cost $18 each and were mostly ice. Ok, so that over with the 3 of us are chatting and enjoying the drinks when one friend asked about why there was so much free food. Is it a special? Apparently we had accidently crashed a private function. Well, we figured we'd finish our drinks and be off. We hadnt partaken of any of the free food. Then a staff member comes over and advised us that we need to leave, that it was a private function. "We had planned to anyway, but the way she told us we found rude and made us out like we had intentionally crashed the function. Hey, we were allowed in and served. Anyway, we complained when we left to the acting mgr and then she offered to have us come back next week and she would get us a drink on the house. Yeah, right like any of us are coming back. You should have simply said, we are sorry that it wasn't clear it was a private function. May I please take you to the other bar and we'll get you a drink for your inconvenience. Nope, instead made us feel like we were sleps. No thanks, won't be back.

Lip service to dietary restrictions. Was looking forward to trying out The Aviary - Nest Rooftop Bar on a sunny Saturday afternoon. <br/><br/>When we finally got menus ("You'll have to grab them from someone else's table as we don't have enough" said the uninterested bartender), I was pleased to see a reference to special dietary requirements on the front page. But really, why bother with this statement when you don't mean it?<br/><br/>There was only one item on the entire menu - garden salad - with a 'gf' next to it to indicate gluten free. Finally managed to get the attention of one of the waitstaff who said she would see what else on the menu could be done gluten free. Lots of deliberation on the sidelines before I was told that the olives with feta were also gf! Nothing else on the menu was gf and as the kitchen was "very busy", there really wasn't anything they could do gluten free. So there ended the Aviary experience for us!<br/><br/>In this day and age, catering to people with food intolerances, allergies and medical conditions such as coeliac disease is second nature to most eating establishments. Will not be returning to the highly overrated Aviary for a meal of 'salad and olives'.

Good onion rings.

Happy. Great food - prawn pizza and chicken lemon salad, funky look, looking over the city. Gave me a free drink and my money back for a meal that accidently came 15 mins later than my friends meals. This showed integrity. Will be going back!
Sallygem
No atmosphere. Like an airport lounge! Stayed for one drink and left.

So-so. Went to the Aviary roof-top on Mother's Day and had NOT made a booking. Nonetheless, the helpful ladies who greeted us at the top of the stairs found us one of the large (and high) share tables, so the three of us grabbed it. We then waited for menus. And waited...I managed to eventually catch the eye of a waitress who was moving at warp-speed through the tables and she returned a minute later with ONE menu for the three of us.<br/>I went to the bar for a couple more menus and observed what I think is wrong with this place: everyone was busy (there were at least 7 people behind the bar) but not one of them was focussed on customers. They have a job to do and they do it, but it's all about process not hospitality.<br/>In fairness, when the food arrived I didn't think it was over-priced. This is Perth! We had some squid that was nicely done - chunky, tender and not overpowered by batter; some meatballs that came in a nice tomato sauce; some chicken wings/drumettes, that were a non-greasy cousin of KFC; and a large-ish Greek salad. It was pleasant small-plate food and was served by friendly, if shy, wait staff. I have been to better places and lots of worse places.
Sarah
Great Friday avo spot - Loved it. We were there on Friday afternoon and had a fabulous time.<br/><br/>The atmosphere was great, the view was lovely, the food was yummy and the cocktails were delicious (but maybe a little pricey) <br/><br/>Will return!
Sarah
Went there to have coffee/tea at 2pm. everything was fine before one lady came to Me and my friend and asked our ID-s. I had a passport but my friend had an international driving licence, and apparently it wasn't good enough to order coffee. besides that this lady was far away from being friendly, as I didn't even get a hello from her. although the place looked amazing
PerthGrrl
Nice place to drink but, eat elsewhere. Slow service and the food delivered to our table was cold.
Shopop
Wont be back. Somewhere that pretends its quite refined, but in actual fact caters to drunk bogans and young sluts. Gets messy, and is really not that nice a place to be after a certain time....Go to Bobs Bar instead<br/><br/>Service is rubbish, bar staff are gracing you with their presence...<br/><br/>Jugs of cocktails ARE pretty good though....
Harry
Not good enough. Last two time I've been in a 3 week period, the same gin and tonic jug has been unavailable. If you have something on the menu, at least be able to sell it.
Food Fanatic
Hmmmm. After disappointment at The Aviary- Birdcage, we thought we would try the Nest. What can go wrong with pub food, right? Well, forget about pub food prices- really overpriced, food ok, not all of it delivered hot. Quite hard to find a comfortable place to sit and eat a meal, snacks maybe better. Drinks really expensive and bar staff seem to expect tipping! This is not the US and you get paid much more than there, and award rates here are quite enough that we don't need to start tipping unless the service is really great. Should not be taken for granted.
KS
Over priced and bar tender will keep your change as their tips OR short change you and pocket the rest as their tips (without asking)... Shame Shane.<br/>Food was nice at rooftop but extremely overpriced and small portion.

Loved the share menu. My husband and I dined here over the weekend and were both really impressed with the food quality and service. We shared the sweet and sour pork belly which was delicious and loved the desserts as well.

Went for the first time with some friends on thursday afternoon, was very impressed. Loved the decor and the vibe, thought the wait staff did a great job!

A nice view of ... TARGET?<br/><br/>I have to say the idea always did interest me when I first heard about this place a while back now. I have been during the day for a few beers and a meal when it had just opened and have to admit it is a more laid back atmosphere and on a day with nice weather it is an enjoyable experience.<br/><br/>Having said that at night the place changes and all of a sudden there are huge lines to get in. The service is average for drinks. I haven't eaten here at night. I have to say there does seem to be a thick cloud of pretentiousness as you enter the deck area from the ramp entrance.<br/><br/>Just last night a male patron that had clearly had a bit too much to drink (should he have been cut off at the bar) dropped a tray full of drinks right onto the floor right behind where me and my friends we sitting on a table in the middle of the deck area. No apology. And then he was gone.<br/><br/>The bouncer that was nearby saw the whole incident and didn't really seem bothered that he had dropped drinks and broken glass all over the floor. When he did eventually come and clean up the mess he didn't even bother to ask if we were okay or if any glass had broken on/around us. This infact was the case too as a LOT of glass had broken and shattered all around where our feet were on the ground.<br/><br/>UNIMPRESSED<br/><br/>At this point the only thing left to do seemed to be to leave as some of my unfortunate friends' back were covered in whatever drinks the aforementioned drunk male patron had spilled beforehand. A bad end to what was initially a good night.<br/><br/>It seems to be a place that people are desperate to been seen/heard in but that isn't really that cool or even appealing. The idea in essence is great... if you had decent views. But realistically when you are sitting the only view you have is that of an enormous target sign or other rooftops. Not really THAT appealing.<br/><br/>Honestly if you want a good night out without drama/average service save yourself the time and go somewhere else. There are other bars/pubs out there with LOTS more to offer.

Looks Good...But. Yes I was late in the game but eventual made it up to the rooftop bar a year or so late. I was pleasently impressed with the fitout, there looked to be quite a good private function area on the side. The main bar was quite large which is good for these kind of venues and I liked the the big tap beer frozen pipes. Unfortunately these wasnt a great variety of drinks in the sense of being surprised at a wine or beer etc the same old fare. I like cocktails and couldnt seem to find anything on the menu except by the jug which we purchased, seemed rather thin with the alcohol content. My main gripe with this venue is the same as a lot of others..the staff, they seemed to be made up of back packers and newbies who didnt really know much and were quite slow. Worth a look for the view and decor but you probably wont go back.
Pattycakes Perth
Friday night hell. Seriously disappointed. First time there and the service was so slow at 4pm on a Friday evening. To top it off, my friend called to say the bouncer would not let her in at 4.30. When I went to ask why he told me 20 people had to leave before he would let one in. I told him is maths left a lot to be desired as 6 people had walked out in front of me & went back to get my bag to leave. Meantime, he allowed 5 people in but not my friend as he didn't like MY attitude ! <br/>I wont bother going again and most definitely do not recommend it.<br/>Poorly organised service, bad front door attitude!

Good food, great service. Great spot on a sunny day

What drink?. I was looking forward to trying this place and finally managed to get there on a Friday night. The setting is amazing and very cool, but wow the service is dreadful. I was stood at the bar 15 minutes trying to get served. Believe me it wasn't through lack of trying on my part but the bar staff were in a world of their own. It wasnt that busy for a town centre bar, but the attentive bar staff looked swamped and the others were just either being lazy or be cool with that attitude. The tall skinny guy with dark hair, you shouldn't be working in customer service. <br/>Only go here if you are happy to do it without a drink in your hand. Shame. Fix the service issues and it'll be a great place.<br/>Taxi to Subi and served at the Llama bar in less time than I stood at the Nest bar being ignored.

Never ever taking friends again!. I popped up to Aviary with friends after city to surf with 9 of my friends. It was my choice to go there to have a birthday celebratory drink with friends after C2S. We were in fancy dress, surprise surprise given the event. <br/><br/>When we went to order, we were told we can order food and one drink and then we had to leave.<br/><br/>I will never go there again. I will never suggest anyone go there, and I believe this place has no idea about hospitality. Dress code is one thing, but on the biggest event of the year, I think these people were rude. Obviously we chose to go elsewhere, and guess what! We were only having one drink. Pink tutus does not mean we are big drinkers dummy!

I had only heard bad things about this venue and I was pleasantly surprised. Went for an early drink Saturday night and the rooftop bar was packed ! Service was fast and friendly, bonus points for table service even just for drinks and they are the only venue I have been to that sell my favourite wine. Downstairs the decor was classy and sophisticated, not sure where the tacky label is coming from. They have just taken on a new general manager as well so maybe those who have been disappointed before should give this place another chance. Didn't eat there but the food we saw going out looked good !
Alice
Okay. Stopped in for Sunday afternoon lunch and drinks. Service was fairly prompt seeing as they were moderately busy. Food was pretty average tasting. Had Spiced chicken burger and turkish bread with dips. Both lacked flavour. But were hot and fresh. I don't like this new trend of food being served on chopping boards. WTF is with that? It was a little cold on the rooftop this afternoon. Probably really nice to go on a warmer day. Cocktail prices are steep for a single drink so we opted for a jug which was much better value. Had the Aviary Garden or something and it was delicious. Some of the chairs look like children's chairs and were awkwardly low.

Great location . Didn't order food , but had a wonderful coffee.... Unusual for me!!!! Perth needs more venues like this in order to catch up to the eastern states, let alone the rest of the world!!!!!

I don't know what all the negative reviews are about? I went on a Tuesday after work for some cocktails and dinner and I loved it! The staff at the bar was friendly and speedy with drink orders. I order a Mojito as for the $19 price tag I thought I had been robbed and until I tried it. It was the best mojito I've had anywhere!! My sister and I order the BBQ pizza to share and some chips and it was to die for! The pizza was crispy as perfect and the pizza came with a spicy aioli dipping sauce. I HIGHLY reccomend on a week night. It was perfect!

Booked a table for Friday night at the Birdcage restaurant after hearing good things. 8pm booking, we were on time but told at the door that since it had been a "late booking" we might have to wait at the bar til a table was free. 1 drink, 50 minutes later and starving, still no table on the horizon. Very disappointing. Might go back for a drink but couldn't be bothered with trying to eat there again. Woo KFC date night!

One Of My Favourites. I discovered The Aviary's Nest Bar a couple of months ago. It is a fantastic place to relax on any afternoon. There are fresh breezes, interesting films playing on a big screen, pleasant background music, and friendly, chilled out wait-staff. The service is prompt and the quality of food and drink is good. We've always found a nice atmosphere; there's something deliciously languid and mood-lifting about sitting on this rooftop, sipping a great drink, and watching the busy streets below.<br/><br/>The cocktails are delicious and different. We always get a jug of the "Swashbuckler" or "Ornithologist" to share - I'm pretty sure they are inventions of this bar - which are zesty, sweetly spiced, and refreshing. I would highly recommend the chips for a snack! They are very moreish, lightly salted and served with yummy paprika aoli. There is limited seating under shade, and a slight excess of ice in the drinks (but they still have plenty of quality liquor in them and get you happy in no time.) I advise you to order any food except the tapas plate, because it's a bit of a gamble - it changes from day to day, and we got a bad day.<br/><br/>Overall, I think The Nest Rooftop Bar is a stylish place to relax with friends and have a tasty bite to eat and a drink after work or university. Unwind and enjoy, don't take it too seriously!

Went here on a Tuesday night with a group and it was great - good food, drinks & service. Believe it's not so good on the busier nights
Nerissa Rowe
Terrible service. I have been here three times for drinks. Hoped that service issues were a one off but sadly they're not. The place is understaffed and those working seem to have little idea about what they're doing. Shame as it's a great location.
Young Dinner
The service is great, all the staff were smileing, and it had a great vibe about the place, I'll defenatly be back

Hooray for Astroturf!. After reading all of the catastrophic reviews for the Nest, I was filled with trepidation. But I wanted to make up my own mind, and some friends suggested going, so I took the plunge.<br/><br/>My friends and I went early on a Thursday evening, so the crowds and long waits weren't an issue, and as for the rude bouncers I didn't see bouncers at all, so that's a moot point.<br/><br/>The place itself was... disappointing. I'm assuming the design was done by the same people who did the Conservatory a couple of blocks down the street - the same slatted wooden benches, the same astroturf, even the same plants in the same planters! The furniture was uniformly uncomfortable, and the oh-so-ironic cartoons on the giant video screen were distracting and annoying. For a place that pitches itself to the smart set, it was bland and uninspired, especially given the prize location. It looked like a suburban tavern beer garden hoisted a few storeys above street level. <br/><br/>On the plus side, my martini was up to scratch, and no more expensive than it would be at any other small bar. The staff were friendly and prompt. And I quite liked the chandeliers over the bar.<br/><br/>So while I won't be going back, it's inoffensive enough. They've clearly whipped the staff into shape since their disastrous early reviews.<br/><br/>Speaking of staff and reviews, if you want a laugh, scroll down here to the reviews by "Donna Stefanovic" and "Procam", two of the few positive reviews for this place. Oddly enough, both of these ladies have singlemindedly devoted their urbanspoon presence to giving glowing reviews to the three Western Australian venues owned by The Publican Group. What an odd... coincidence.<br/><br/>Nice to know that the floor of the Nest isn't the only place where it has astroturfing!
Anthony
Good for Perth. I think this kind of bar and restaurant is good for Perth. It definitely has a nice gimmick of a open air rooftop which is perfect for the weather here. <br/><br/>Personally I don't think I'll be going back, unless its for a Cigar, Scotch or Wine night. <br/><br/>As many of the other reviews state that the service is slow during the busy times, which I understand, but I have been a couple of times during the middle of the week (FIFO worker) and its still just as slow. Its almost like the staff are nonplussed that you are standing at the bar waiting to order.<br/><br/>I also attended the NYE party and paid the extra for VIP which was totally not worth it. We still had a great time and the entertainment was terrific. However, we found that It was harder to get a drink at the VIP "bar" upstairs than it was at the bar below. Way to many people upstairs and barely anyone down stairs but this may have had something to do with the bouncers mathematics skills. Also of the canapés that were served, 75% was shellfish... something that my partner is allergic to.<br/><br/>I still think that the place is really good for the demographic it appears to be going for and I'm sure that a number of people like it, however if you are after a decent meal with an uninflated price tag and drinks that don't have any tricky stuff in them (like straws) I'd be looking elsewhere.
Pennae
Cold and miserable. And that's both the staff and the venue!
Believeinyourself
Terrible service and overpriced food. I asked for a cocktail to be made without the alcohol, the bar staff has to ask if it was possible first to do that, then came back to ask me if I was sure, then ordered the drink, my one drink was a 40min process! Their tapas food is awful, seems they went to store and bought a cheap antipasto plate and then charge you through the nose to throw it all onto a plate.
Gerald
Never again. Came in a few days ago at my wife's insistance that we try it atleast once. We tried it and never again will we go back. The cocktails where bland, the food was average at best and the staff seemed more preoccupied with chatting then serving customers.
Adelene Gumina
Yummy. I have to say I came here with my boyfriend and we really did enjoy our meals. We were seated in the restaurant area and the staff, who were obviously new and were still in training, were friendly none the less. I had the risotto which was delicious, however for 40 odd dollars I would really hope so. My boyfriend had the beef burgers which he enjoyed also. Dessert was delicious, I will be back.
Thenutfactory
Ok now I know where birds go to crap. Get your drinks at the bar. Never let them tell you they will bring it out. It never comes.
Paul Matthews
Poor service and average 'pub style' food. Interesting view and situation but badly signed and hard to find.
Yen Tau
Over-Rated. I don't get the hype over this place. We arrived to be told that they did not have our reservation even though we called the day before to confirm. They hastily put a table together for us, after telling us that they were sure we went there last night.<br/><br/>Service was atrocious. After we sat down, none of the wait staff came over to offer us any water. We had to call them over after they ignored us for about 10 minutes. Going to the restaurant bar to order a drink, we were greeted with an unpleasant smell and a rude bartender...who also made my friend a very ordinary martini. The ordinary martini may have been fine if she had actually ordered it. You would think that with a sit down dinner service that the wait staff should take our drink orders. <br/><br/>When it came to our meals, according to our waitress, all but a few of us ordered steaks and, I quote "yous must have ordered them" when in fact some of us ordered other dishes from the very ordinary menu.<br/>Maybe I should have taken the steak instead of my sad and dry chicken with the wimpy looking asparagus. There was also the rubbery pork belly with the burnt crackling (to call it crackling is misleading....try chewing gum)....the slimy scallops that I suspect is frozen but sold at premium price....<br/><br/>To have the prices that they have for the food, the ambience was all wrong. Not what I would call a fine-dining experience....but if you want to be ripped off, be dismissed by the wait staff and experience bad food, I would highly recommend this.
Eating In Hats
Had an amazing meal tonight and nice casual drinks. It was a beautiful night so we took to the rooftop. I recommend the terkish bread with dip, only 14 dollars for a large filling platter.
Foodphrodite
Atrocious food and rude bouncers. Food is oily, bland, lacking freshness and not worth the money paid. I have tried the canapé's that they serve during large functions and it is not worth having a celebration here unfortunately. A lot of the food was Asian based. They served raw scallops which was marinated in a ginger sauce but it was so slimy and warm, the chicken noodle salad was served in take-out paper boxes that were soggy and overridden with salty soy sauce, the burger's contained mince meat that was overcooked and tough. The service for drinks is very slow and the bouncers are extremely rude. The cocktails are just ordinary. Also, there is a long wait to get in as they only let people in as others leave and they take their sweet time to make it look busy. Don't bother wasting your time here.
Terrine De Lapin
Place looks a bit swish at the moment but has the potential to look worn & tacky in a couple of years. I could hardly sit straight on some odd shaped wobbly purple chair by the window. What's that cheap sort of painted garden lattice covering the ceiling?
Lee
Not so good, shame. Long lines, wanky, overcrowded and slow service.<br/><br/>Confusion of dress code, bouncers seem to decide on the night???
Procam
Went with my boyfriend for lunch was great. Food was very enjoyable. The girl serving us was very attentive and friendly.. Will be back
Les
Clearly others feel the same as me. Nice location. That's it. I thought the food was good though. Bad point (a). They don't "accept debit cards" but funnily enough had a cash machine nearby that charges $2.50 per withdrawal. Bad point (b). Half way through our meal, i actually had food on my fork on the way to my mouth. blonde waitress asks if she can have one of our tables (we were across two in the shade). Emm ok. Cardinal rule of waiting skill, never interrupt your customer to take away a table or seat. Never ever. It's just frickin rude! Let the new guys wait for a table!!!!! After we sacrificed a table, Then another pretentious blonde customer steals my fiances seat. Hadn't even finished her wine! "thought you were leaving". Emm ok at least ask rather than simply take. Bad point (c). Seriously it shouldnt take 15mins for a coke. Go to squires instead. Cheaper nicer people and waitresses that actually want to please you!

Had an amazing Sunday sesh here when visiting from Melbourne last weekend. The set-up is cool, the sun was out and the music was unbelievably good. Propped ourselves on a table for 3 and didn't move for about 6 hours. Bar staff took our orders from the table and were friendly and attentive. Ordered some food when we got a bit peckish and the chips and squid were yum. Would happily spend any Sunday that way. <br/>That being said, did pop by on the Friday night circa 6pm for some drinks to kick off the night and found the lounge bar incredibly stuffy and boring. The queue to go up to rooftop was far too long to wait so we quickly moved on. Luckily we visited on the Sunday as it redeemed itself!

Average, average, average.. Although The Aviary has always been surrounded by a lot of hype, the reality is unfortunately quite a different story. The Aviary is average at best- at worst it is quite bad. Having been there a fair few times now (trying to give the benefit of the doubt) I am finding that, unfortunately, first impressions were correct in this case. Despite the moderately high pricing, the meals lack taste, texture and freshness, making them unsatisfying. To add to this, the service gets progressively worse- from unprofessional, sulky waitresses to a rude manager, I won't be giving the Aviary another go. Save your money- there are better places for your cash. <br/><br/>The only positive in my experiences with this place is the location.
Shaneoss
Aviary. Went to the rooftop bar to order food, waitress said how about you sit down decide what you want and i will come over in a rude tone. we ordered chips and a chorizo pizza, waitress repeated order and all we got was chips and slices of chorizo, this place is a joke for food and the service is terrible! great venue and cool for after work drink on the rooftop but that's all.
FS
Frustrating night. My friends and I attended the Aviary to celebrate a special occasion. I initially requested a booking in the Lounge Bar, to be told there was nothing available and so I made a reservation for the Birdcage restaurant. When my friend and I arrived we were directed to the Lounge Bar to have a drink while we waited for my other friends to arrive and to my surprise there was plenty of space in the Lounge Bar. <br/><br/>When we moved into the restaurant we waited so long for any service and then we were refused service because we did not order enough from the menu. We were then told to move to the Lounge Bar where we waited a further 30 mins for service and by the time we actually got to eat anything it was two hours after we first arrived.<br/><br/>Although the food was nice, the service was terrible and it was all very disorganised which made it a very frustrating night. I don't think I will be returning any time soon.
PH
Did we go to a different the aviary?. After reading the other reviews on here I am wondering if we went to a different The Aviary? Firstly the staff were great. Friendly and efficient. We went for lunch and loved the look of the tapas plate (thanks to our waitress who pointed it out as it was coming out to the table near us). One item missing on the menu was a side salad to share - our waitress said she would see what can be done and well done to the kitchen who made a perfect pear, rocket, blue cheese and walnut salad. The food arrived very quickly and was really nice. Our only criticism was just how disorganised it came to paying he bill - with a load of registers at the bar you end up hanging around waiting for people to buy drinks - and yes the bar staff are slow. So maybe one area if your paying a bill. As for our experience in light of others commented on here - maybe we went on a good day - we'll have to go again to be sure.
Lauren Jane
Very Overpriced for portion size in restaurant, service a bit slow in restaurant, service very slow at the bar. Will not be rushing back anytime too soon if at all!!
Emma
Mediocre at best. My first Visit was for a corporate Melborne Cup function which was not great - vegetarian option was not at all edible. I gave it a second chance and have been a few times for a drink or to. However last night (Valentines night) i went for Tapas and drinks with my partner and the food was disgusting. Bland, no seasoning, no flavor and awful presentation. I complained to the manager and was offered no resolution. Do not go to the Aviary if you want a decent meal - the food is overpriced and flavourless. A new bar can only be the new in bar for so long before the decent downhill commences...
Paul Chamberlain
Shocking Service!`. I've been in the industry for 20 years and have never seen such terrible service, bartenders who don't have the first clue how to prepare drinks or even speak to customers, i got one guy who could barely understand English then returned with the drink incorrectly made 3 times, then over charged me, then when i told him he had overcharged me he huffed and walked away and served another customer without giving me the correct money back!! Unbelievable!! Had sooo much potential, won't be going back!!
Jothin11
Over rated. The place is nice but not the service. staff should take more attention for customer.
Mik
Awesome Aviary. Great venue, service and food. I had read the many negative prior reviews and my friends and I decided to go anyway. Guess what- excellent service- the waitress discounted our bill by 10% as she felt she hadn't given us her best service! The service was faultless, considering it was a Saturday night. and busy. Lovely food and a fantastic venue. Enough of the tall poppy syndrome Perth - give this place a go!!!
Alice Ryan
Not great service nice but inexperienced staff who didn't know their food. Way overpriced for what you get and looked like bar food! The bar don't serve coke ( just pepsi) !!!!!
Emmie
Best bar in Perth. So i've been to the aviary quite a few times since it opened and I love, love love it!!<br/>People it is a new bar, so it's going to be busy and yes you might have to wait 10 minutes for a drink - well worth it though. This is the best new bar to hit Perth!
Blanche
Staff are cocky in their nasty federra hats and the crowd is full of bogans yeah sure it's a rooftop bar but why wear the extravagant dresses while the only view you have is of target. Only good thing is the chips yummy but te drinks are weak. Where are the spirits? Is it just water and tonic ? I want a gin and tonic dammit!
Mark4food
We turned up for a drink after work and waited for 15 minutes before being seen. Bad bad service, and the pizzas terrible
Naomi
Crap staff. Ok, we had a night out on the town - 15 gals where we had dinner first then drink at the rooftop bar. Dinner was tasty and pretty good, couldnt fault it. But staff consistently give mixed and confusing information throughout the venue. For example, at the rooftop bar after spending HOURS buying three drinks (rounds for two other friends and I) suddenly I was told, you can only buy two drinks at a time. When I agreed to only buy two drinks for the three of us, suddenly I was charged extra for the drinks for the random guy next to me. This makes no sense! Why insist that I can only buy two drinks but then think its ok to charge me for the random's drinks??? You are selling me MORE THAN TWO DRINKS???!! That is just one example.. And they did refund me, but I would be reluctant to return to this venue.
KEL
Bah..... If you go here because its a rooftop bar with music then at least head to Connections.... at least theres a great atmosphere and the music is awesome.<br/><br/>Wont be back.<br/><br/>Rude and very blah.
Jay
Potential Lost. This venue has the potential to be something great, but the combination of a lack of service (upward of 25 mins wait for a drink), over-crowding and lack of seating & shade makes it almost impossible to enjoy drinking here. Format and layout needs work, as does their approach to cramming punters in to the limited space they have. I also braved the menu and sampled some of the tapas on offer. Not bad, but certainly not worth the price they're charging.<br/><br/>5/10 at best.<br/><br/>Jay

I love it. Despite the bad reviews, 1.5 hours wait in the line on a Saturday night, hot weather and crowds, Aviary totally blew me away! Service was reasonably acceptable since it was a busy night with hardly places to stand! Music was amazing, could hear the hype from the ground floor. Yet another gem!
Dame Edna
What a pretentious place. Hour to line up to get in. Half hour to pay $10 for half a pint. Crappy overpriced food and a view of a target sign whilst you're on top of a roof with posers who think they've got money. Avoid at all costs.
Smellykunt
First time was good. First time there last night was good got treated like a king
Lawl
What a joke.. Couldn't wear a singlet. Couldn't order a double shot, not sensible enough apparently. Didn't hear a single Katy Perry song the entire night.<br/><br/>Food was garbage; long live dominos.<br/><br/>Never coming back, rather take my money else where and spend 15 dollars on pints down the road at the belgium beer cafe or 8 at the Greenhouse for half a middy. GG Perth.
Taxi Steve
Not Worth It. Rude Door staff, overpriced drinks and rude bad service first time there last time there.Wont recomend it to anybody.

Server made unnecessary comment that offended. Not friendly. Slow to bring out drinks. Food tasted good but portion size was pathetic. Overpriced. When a complaint was made my friend was told oh ok'. They were very good at pouring water into glasses. Would not come back to eat

Identity crisis?. Well, unless you've been living under a rock, you'll know that for the past month or so the Aviary has been THE place to be seen in Perth. On the plus side, the location is great, the view from the rooftop bar is fabulous, the bar staff are friendly, the wine list is good (if not extensive) and the space is well-designed. On the other hand, this place has yet to figure out what it wants to be: it's like every clique in Perth is sending its reps to find out if they belong there. But the biggest failing of all is one that afflicts so many of our new bars: namely, a very Perth dress code designed to a) keep the CUBs out, and b) make the corporate bogans feel welcome. If you're going after dark, guys, make sure you wear a shirt with a collar. Hmm ... stuck in the 80s, much? Never mind, in 20 years Perth dress codes might finally catch up to Melbs or Sydney ...
Diner
Expensive, really bad service and full of bogans. 30 minutes to make a Mai tai ??????

NYE was a blast!. Aviary was absolutely packed to the brim the other night for NYE, however my girl and I still had a complete blast! They had reached capacity for upstairs so we had to enjoy the night downstairs but that was fine, the music was awesome and there was food being walked around. Pretty sure we all drank a bit much (free schooners, pints, whatever! It's better than a damn middy).<br/><br/>There were a few hooligans amongst the crowd who had a bit too much for anyones liking, but it seemed security and management were quick to sort them out. Bar service was swift, I understand they were busy and can only move so fast. So well done getting to me in like less than five minutes.<br/><br/>I wished the DJ spoke less during the music though, no need for that.<br/><br/>I also was under the impression that cider was included with the tickets, but this actually wasn't the case. Misses was a bit angry about that, but that's fine, mistakes happen. All up, not a bad night.<br/><br/>P.S - Strawberries with champagne makes the girls happy, lets see some next time?
Jake
Scooners at Pint prices. This is a crime and not worth paying for. $10 for 425ml beer, not a full pint which is 580ml.
Paul
We ate at the aviary last night and very nearly cancelled because of the reviews on this site. It was a busy night and the place full. The service was top notch, the food excellent and atmosphere great. I wonder if the swag of negative reviews have been created by one person with a grudge for some reason? It actually makes me wonder about the value of review sites. If you want a place that is modern and something a little different from the Perth normal give it a go!
Elliott
Got served a dirty glass would not replace it. Place has no air con downstairs. Cant see the sky only in certain areas.

Too Expensive. The Aviary sets the standard for beer prices in Boom town Perth, without being able to back it up with quality. Ten bucks for a 350ml glass of Fat Yak is just not good enough. I was there Thursday before Xmas and possibly not representative for a normal day in town, but Thursday was way too busy. I read a lot of review on the staff being rude, but can't share that experience - staff seemed to be okay. If anything they were annoyed too that it was so busy. Good to see what the fuss was all about, but don't think I'll be back soon.
Peter Punt
Worst Service Ever. Can't believe the time it takes to get a drink and service in this place.<br/><br/>Lots of potential but just ruined by the way they run the place.<br/><br/>Overpriced and overhyped.
Doug
Rooftop bar: nice concept, worst bar service seen in a very long time. All TEN waitstaff should be fired.
Hep Cat
Roughnuts welcome!. Overpriced, tacky interior, usual collection of muppets holding up the bar. The comforting thing is that the clientele won't be staining any of the CBD's (admittedly few) good drinking spots. That spot has such great potential! Disappointing it lacks any spark.
Nikki
AMAZING. The Aviary has to be one of the BEST places I have been for food and drinks in Perth. The roof top bar is amazing, whislt the food in the restaurant is just as good.<br/>Why is everyone complaining about the food and service? Waiting 5 minutes for a drink, boo hoo they are a new place in Perth during a busy season. I have had way worse food & service in Perth and paid more.<br/>People only complain nowadays, so here's a nice compliment for me. Well done to the Avairy, I will most definitely be back
Foodie_addictee
Rude Bouncer. Friday afternoon, was planning to go before we got stopped at the door because they are too busy, not even gonna bother to go back & try
Kat Novacsek
What would I like to say about the Avairy? ...overrated, overpriced and bouncers who perpetrate the worst in boucer stereotypes. I won't be going back plenty of better venues in the CBD.
John Dobson
Rubbish. I headed to the rooftop bar and after a lengthy wait finally got up there. To be greeted by my first drink from a disinterested barman. A middy at a fee of $8.50!<br/><br/>Asking the staff for anything at all was like we had asked them for a pint of their own blood (which I'm sure would have been cheaper than a pint of Stella.)<br/><br/>The staff were not friendly which was a shame because the venue is nice - although there is astroturf on the floor, which was odd.<br/><br/>I saw two huge bouncers eject a very small woman from the bar. She didn't seem drunk, but she may have been acting inappropriately, I don't know. What I do know was that the bouncers looked very happy and were loudly announcing that she was being removed to anyone who would listen. Must've been very embarrassing for her.<br/><br/>Food was OK and would have been passable if it was a reasonable price. However it was very expensive and my friends food came out cold. Sending it back was a big inconvenience for the staff.<br/><br/>Too expensive and very unprofessional and disinterested staff. In the end it's the service and the food that will get you back. They'll need big changes to stay in business....<br/><br/>Don't bother kids - cheaper and better food, much cheaper drinks and good service are available at at least 5 other bars within two minutes of there.
Geoff The Chef
Over rated. Very slowest service I have ever had. I had four courses. Entree was arancini. Was ok. My main was chicken and pancetta, a bit dry and way too much salt. It took twenty minutes to receive my martini which was terrible. No olive. So they bought me a small plate of them when I asked. Nothing to get them out with though. My dessert was panna cotta. That was nice but something I could make at home. I had coffee which was nearly warm and with no teaspoon or sugar. Nice froth and taste though. My butt was so sore from the hard chairs. Our meals took seriously two hours to get through. People at our table were falling asleep. The risotto was disgusting too. My friend didn't eat it. Staff were bordering on rude, maybe they were just stressed. It was also slightly too moody and dark. Then off to the bar which was better. Not enough ladies toilets. 3, are you kidding me? Had to line up for rooftop and never made it but thank goodness as it was freezing and windy. Don't wear a skirt unless its tight. All in all a nice looking place. Do go once! But as for me I know better eats with lovely staff and ambience for less.
Mint
We booked a table in the nest with a minimum bar tab of $600..Unimpressed with the venue on the whole it staff it took 20mins to bring us out 2 bottles of the wrong wine and then another 10 to bring us what we had ordered. Overpriced and overhyped!

I went to The Aviary for a Xmas party and was less than impressed. Several colleagues have been I'll due to eating their food. I was asked to leave because I had apparently too much to drink. I'm the first to admit I had a couple to drinks but was no means out of control or overly intoxicated. I was not the only one in the group that this happened to. One colleague had only had a couple of drinks & when people behind her smashed glasses she was asked to leave & the culprits were allowed to kick on. I found the bouncers to be rude & on some kind of power trip. I don't recommend The Aviary to anyone. There are far better places in Perth so don't waste your money on trying out The Aviary. I won't be going back in the life time!
Ashleigh
The place is terrible! Firstly, I have had an upset tummy all day from the food, as has 7 of my friends whom were with me. Secondly, the bouncers are extremely rude! My mate was escorted out on her 2nd drink because apparently she was paraletic? As did 4 of my other friends. The girls toilets were filthy and smelt discusting. I will never go back their EVER ... And save yourself the dollars, it's definitely not worth the hassle!
Paula Parker
Our first visit!. Spent lunch time there today. Saturday 10 dec. Staff were nice and helpful. Venue ~~ femail toilets were a bit smelly! At the top of the stairs as you come around the corner there is a smell of garbage?? Not sure where that was coming from. I think there should be a chewing gum ban too . New fake lawn ruined all ready. Did not eat but the food did look nice and lots of it. So I would go there again.
Tamsin De Knock
I went there with friends for a drink and a tasting plate. The tasteting plate was awesome and the cocktails were so good. I would definitely recommend going here to eat and drink!
Jodee Dale
Amazing! This bar is an absolute must-see haven't been to a bar this well designed in ages. There's something about the bird cages and book shelf wallpaper that turns your visit into an experience. Pork belly was the balls and drinks were a little exey but totally worth it - best cocktails!! We also tried a wagyu hamburger thingy which was omg so good. Will be back every chance we get!
Michelle
So I must admit after reading all the reviews on urban spoon I was very hesitant to go to the aviary... However my friends and I decided to give it a go. Well yes we did have to wait in a line to get in but c'mon people it's Perth!!! I mean you have to line up to get into Carnegies... The cocktails were amazing and the food was even better! As for the venue itself - stunning!!! I think that most of the people that write all these terrible reviews should seriously get over themselves and see the aviary for the awesome new venue that Perth has desperately needed for a long time... I'll definitely be back!! Thanks for all the hard work guys!!
Chris
Worst bar ever. I work as a bartender in a cbd bar. I went to the aviary last night. Worst. bar. ever! The staff don't get trained. The managers dont care. The cocktail guy obviously refuses to train any of the staff. I first asked the girl behind the bar if she had any spiced rum. The guy next to her said no we dont. She walked off and went looking, came back a minute later and said no. I saw four bottles of Belvedere. Is one of them black raspberry i asked. The bartender next to her said no. She walked off to the other end of the bar behind the cocktail guy and came back and said no. What a surprise. I asked for a Tanqueray 10 and tonic and then asked her if she had grapefruit for it. Yes, she replied. Came back with grapefruit juice...... ok i thought maybe she just got confused. Asked for actual grapefruit. she comes back with a slice of grapefruit that was taller than the rocks glass and a good 2cms thick. I gave up. I got a beer from a bottle. Such a disappointment. Decided to go to the toilet on the way out. A staff member is getting changed in there. I asked him why. No changerooms apparently

Went to The Aviary restaurant for work lunch. It's a nice restaurant with great interior design, nice curtains, bar, furniture & lights which gives you a posh atmosphere! Foods are delicious... Ordered the chicken pizza and it's totally to my liking with thin crust and neither greasy nor cheesy, can easily finished the whole plate without effort. My colleagues were pretty happy with their steak sandwich and fish & chips too. Service was not bad and we didn't wait too long for our meals. I will recommend to give this place a go as we don't have much of places like this in the CBD.
TheDedica TedOnanist
WTF?. How does a venue get away with charging $150 per person for a NYE event and then try and entice a further $100?! <br/>Anyone who wants to pay $250 to get stuck at one bar for the whole of NYE has more money than sense and I thought maunfacturing long queues was a bar's lowest act!
Whatever
Great Place, great atmosphere. Went there for drinks after work. Friendly relaxed atmosphere - prices are no more expensive than any other venue in Perth. Think most the people on this page need to wake up and realise that fact. <br/>Food menu caters for all kinds of dinning experiences from Tapas to 'pub' style food and then downstairs an al la carte menu. Couldn't book into the Restaurant because understandably everybody is booking in there. Will check back again next year - Waitress was very helpful explaining this all to me and giving me all the relevant information which can be found on their website. <br/>Ended up having a steak sandwich on the roof - thought it was very tasty and loved the wooden style plate it came out on - very original. <br/>Having spoken to many of the staff their it's safe to say that they are still trying to 'sus' the venue out like any new venue and their have been a few teething problems but they will get it right sooner rather than later. All in all a very enjoyable experience and i'll definitely be back. <br/>To the people who seem to just complain for the sake of complaining - your in Perth, were hardly swimming in great modern drinking/dinning venues - maybe offer some constructive feedback then you might actually end up with the venue Perth needs

After work drinks a must!. Friends and I have been here a few times and have found it to be a fantastic spot for drinks after work. Love the view and have stayed on to have a bite to eat. The chorizo & potato pizza was good and arrived promptly, the last time I was there. Staff were friendly too. Looking forward to heading back again.

Great venue!. I have come to the Aviary a few times since it opened and have enjoyed it every time. <br/>The food was great on the rooftop both times.. once we had a steak sandwich which seriously was the best steak sandwich ever and the other time we had a range of tapas. The arancini balls are great and the chorizo was tasty. <br/>The fit out of this venue is fantastic and well worth the few teething problems this new place is going through. Hang in there aviary team... you will get there!<br/>Everyone else, you need to experience the atmosphere and the food! <br/>Great range of beer on tap too.
Mel
Sardines in a can. You wait in line for half an hour to get in to the venue, only to find you need to line up a second time for 10-20 minutes to enter the roof top section. After finally getting up to the roof top, you instantly regret it, as it is such a let down. To make your way over to the bar you have to fight through a crowd of people who are shoulder to shoulder. When you finally manage to get your drink (but couldn't order any shots as they don't have a licence for it), it is instantly knocked out of your hand by some dancing bogan. For somewhere that is acting all pretentious you certainly need to be a bit more selective with the crowd you let in. I would loke to go back again once the hype has died down and you have your specific clientele.
Little Miss Cupcake
Really REALLY slow service, incompetent and inexperienced bar staff with ridiculous restrictions, 1 drink per person when the bar is packed and it takes 45mins to serve someone, serious?!?dont know how they will manage a new years party!and getting bugged by glassies-very annpying!nice venue but can't give any positives about the rest!!!
Scotty
Pretty good. Okay, the staff were a bit off, maybe because we were over 40 somethings, but the food and ambience were fun - tapas style grub, all very nice , especially the prawns, and the type of bar (we were at the Rooftop Bar) that gave you the "on holiday" feeling. Will be back, that's for sure, but hope the staff are a bit more friendly next time.
Wasted In Northbridge
Premium Prices, Bogan Service. Go there if you enjoy the feeling of paying premium prices at a wannabe exclusive venue hosted by obnoxious bogans.<br/>I wont be back.<br/>Enjoy
Marina Parkin
Sunday afternoon share plate (delicious), glass of wine and friendly service, good spot to kill an hour in the city. Don't understand all the negative comments, it's okay as far as bars go.

Waiting, waiting, waiting. Been in the "food line" at the nest for 20 mins now and not ONE ORDER has been taken. Asked a barman and he said someone would start "soon". WTF? Won't be coming back!
Petros
So over rated its ridiculous. We had to line up for 45 minutes and the line wasn't even that long - just wasn't moving! When waiting that long you just hope that its going to be really worth it when you get in, it wasn't. The lady on the door had so much attitude that it just was getting embarrassing listening to her. She was dressed very trashy which you would not expect from such a venue. First impressions- not good.<br/><br/>Yes the decor is nice but there are so many people packed into a tiny place you can't even really see it. <br/><br/>Waited 35 minutes to get served at the bar. The bar area is massive (which was absolutely packed) and only about 8 staff working. It's like they spent so much money on the decor of the place that they can't even afford it staff it! Wine list was unimpressive and over inflated prices. Definiately won't be going back here if I can help it.
Bruno Senna
Let's pitot this way,I will definetly not be going back for either the food or service, food was some of the worst we have eaten in Perth and service was non existent ,shame really because with some good chefs and management this could be a top venue
Lynn Ewen
If you want to que like you are Macs but wait 20 mins for a drink then this is the place for you and I was only behind 4 people in the que.

Disappointed. We were fortunate enough to have work organise an after hours function here on Friday last week. There was a queue approx an hour long outside as we arrived at 5.30pm...the bar on level on is beautifully decorated and the rooftop area surpassed my expectations..however, the service and employee attitudes there leave alot to be desired and will be the undoing of this establishment if some changes are not made urgently. Customers will not be able to justify paying such exorbitant prices for drink and food when they are getting such medicore service. My friends and I have booked in for the new years eve party here and have all paid $150pp for our tickets. We received an email yesterday informing us that should we wish to spend another $100 each we can upgrade our package to a VIP one where a table in the rooftop area and table service is guaranteed. Evidently management have decided to try and soak as much money out of this event as they can. What pans out on the night remains to be seen but i am more worried than excited about it given the feedback from other customers. I agree with the fellow reviewer who pointed out that the greenhouse is still the number one rooftop bar in Perth...staff and management of the Aviary need to pop in there and learn first hand how to run an establishment of this kind.
Mike
Was really excited about going to the aivary, huge dsappointment soon followed. Booked for lunch for 6 people, waitress didnt have any booking and didnt seem to be interested in trying to accomidate us, just said 'someones messed up' -ya dont say! So went up stairs for cocktails and tapas - the squid was about the only thing that was good - pork belly fatty and not crisp on top - cocktails after a 20 min wait were gross - staff clearly didnt have a clue what they were doing - v.disappointed!
Vic
Not even mildly impressed. Well we booked through this service for Sunday lunch and my partner and I was looking forward to it. We try somewhere new every Sunday and we usually spend up to $400 however upon arrival we were told that one they dont do Sunday lunch and two there is no way that we would have been able to make the booking by a very rude and arragant barman- Pretty much told me that I was wrong and an Idiot. Then I remebered that I had the conformation and showed him on my Iphone to which he was oh thats weird not i'm sorry showed his boss- who was actually very nice about it too little to late. We ended up going to the BOHEME restaurant for lunch which was ok- when we told them what happend there manager said that Aviary was sending them business left right and centre and he believed that they would only last 6 months. 1- piece of advice for this place first get your systems working correctly so that you dont waste peoples time. 2- tell your barstaff that customer is always right no matter what 3- Restaurant not open on Sunday?? WTF is not one of the busiest days of the week traditionally?
Miss Piggy
Lovely helpful staff<br/><br/><br/>-----23 Nov, 2011-----<br/><br/>New staff, lite on with wine servings but room to improve
Mmmm
Uncaged!. I decided to for go my lunch booking to enjoy the sun on the roof terrace and some wine and nibbles. The sunshine was amazing! The wine, when I finally got a bottle that was in stock from the incredibly tiny menu (this took three attempts!) was not really that chilled which was disappointing considering the heat. And the food was extremely lack luster, and tasted as though it had been sitting on the pass for a little to long. On the up side it was the first real chorizo I have had in Perth since returning after several years in Europe. My guests and I decided not to order a second bottle of wine but rather to order some cocktails. Bad decision. As another reviewer wrote, these did not seem to be made with any haste or knowledge behind them. It took 45 minutes to get 4 cocktails and they were nothing to write home about. In fact they took so long that one of my guests decided to return to the bar and order a beer and some mixers whilst we waited. By the time we received the cocktails we had managed to finish these drinks also.<br/>The staff on serving us the cocktails could not remember what they were and quite bluntly stated that there was only one person on cocktails, although there seemed to be about 5 behind the bar. The glassie was the only member of staff who was friendly and polite.<br/>Why open a venue when clearly you are not ready!!! Shut the doors and train some staff. <br/>Unfortunately I will not be recommending this new-comer to any one.

Bad Experience. Forgotten by our waiter to order, had to find one, then waited 30+ minutes for a coke and a beer... (they forgot again)<br/><br/>then waited an hour for our food to arrive, not to mention it was pretty average, ive tasted better pub food, also apparently $38 gets you a piece of fish the size of a small wallet and then 3 cherry tomatoes... <br/><br/>and to top it off, charged $10 "accidentally" on our bill for "mains away"...<br/><br/>if you wanna wait hour + for poor food and poor service where you are forgotten. come to the aviary.
OP
Great modern bar and feel. Reminds me of the Ivy in Sydney. Rooftop bar is awesome. Service needs some improvement but that will happen as its new. Had dinner in restaurant understaffed. The chorizo pizza was tasty but needed a sauce in base and friends said steak sandwich was bland
Nicole
Beeest venue in the city!!!!. Fineally a Sunday session open in the city worth checking out. The Avairy's roof top garden is a gem. Enjoyed a couple of bottles of champayne with the gorgeouse little nibblies offered on the bar menu, was a great way of catching up and spending a lazy afternoon with freinds overlooking our very little skyscrappers our city has too offer.Lots of shady spots for the not so loving sun seekers.<br/>Great music, freindly staff......on to a good thing. Cant wait to come back! See you every Sunday Avairy.

Love,love,love.....this new venue!. Sadly was unable to make the opening to the Aviary, dedided to have dinner there Friday night.<br/>OMG what an amazing experience we had.Had a reservation for 6, we walked up to the first floor to be blown away by attention to detail put into this place , the circular bar is so sexy and seductive, we decided to have our pre dinner drinks waiting for our party to arrive, starting of on a dirty martini, perfection by the bartender, while my partner orederd a cocktail recomended by the bartender was not left dissapointed. we were escorted to our table once our party arrived. the music and lighting to this venue still feeling sexy, could not wait to read the menu.Started with the tasting plate, i had the cinnamon and cider pork belly wth green paw paw salad, envy was all on my dish when our mains were served, presentation was amazing and it tickled our taste buds too. Although all full, having a sweet tooth i always judge my deserts .will be going back for the dark choc pudding.....yuuuum!!!<br/>Than-you for a memorable night, we will definately make this place our second home!
Ollie
Perfection!. After much anticipation The Aviary has finally opened its doors! And it's quite amazing.<br/>The attention to detail should be commended, I can't imagine how much money went into the place.<br/>Drink menus are great, food looks and tastes fantastic and the variety of spaces available makes it a venue for any occassion. I'll definitely be back!
Lyra Olivia
OMG Amazing!. I am one of those lucky individuals who has already enjoyed The Aviary's rooftop bar. The venue is jaw droppingly stunning with more detail than the Palace of Versailles!<br/><br/>The wallpaper, carpet, REAL trees and light fixtures all deserve a second and third look. If you were to count the numbers of birds (pictures, statues or otherwise) you'd be there for at least 3 weeks!<br/><br/>I was at the media launch last Wednesday night and the canapes were amazing. Mini wagyu burgers, crispy squid, scallops and sliced beef ona tiny bed of salad just to name a few. Bite sized and delicious!<br/><br/>They laid on the drinks too with wine, champagne and beer being walked around on trays and the cocktail bartenders were nice and busy shaking up new bird-themed delights.<br/><br/>This venue has it all! a decadent dining room, casual but ornate loungebar and then of course the rooftop bar complete with lawn bowls!<br/><br/>I highly recommend a visit, or many!

Dont waste your cash. We visited for dinner on friday night, what a shamble. greeted by the obligatory door b*tch, and ushered through to a table the could accomodate 2 small children (for 4 adults). the table itself was tiny, and in the 'restaurant' which literally felt like i was inside a nightclub. it was loud, busy and very unpleasant. the wait service was ok, although our champagne took forever to arrive and the wine arrived after we had finished our meal. oh and the meal, was a disaster. the steak i could've cooked better myself, and the soggy fatty pork belly did not look at all like a fine dining experience. even paying for the below average experience took forever. we did consider a cocktail up on the roof top, however the 'priority' queue was about 20m long and not going anywhere. i realise these guys have only just opened, but come one, you need to lift your game. i wont be returning in a hurry.
Jen
A group of 8 of us went for dinner Friday night. The place had been open for 4 days and was undeniably having some teething issues. We started with pre dinner drinks in the lounge and could see the staff were clearly under pressure but trying to cope the best they could. It was hard to not be frustrated by the slow service and incomplete wine lists. After having an open and honest discussion with management we found that they really stepped up to the plate. They took the time to sit with us and listen to the feedback and constructive criticism and discuss areas of improvement. After chatting with them, they went above and beyond to make us feel like the most important people in the restaurant. The food was great - we all chose to share the tapas items. Arancini balls were the winner, squid was perfectly seasoned and the chorizo was among the best I've had - it was a shame the portion size didn't quite reflect the price though. The Aviary will improve, but it just needs time to settle in and find it's feet. It is an amazing location and has great potential, especially having venue manager Mike on their team. We will be back and hopefully the teething issues will have been fixed.
Courtney Brown
Rooftop - Disappointing. Went to have lunch on the Rooftop today with a bunch of girls from work. We turned up at 12pm to start our 1 hour lunch break to find that we couldn't order any food until 12.30pm, of which we could only order 5 things from the 'Peck' menu although there were at least a dozen to choose from. We then went to another venue which was packed and still able to deliver our food within 10 minutes of ordering and enabling us to get back to work still within the hour after only being their for half an hour! Very disappointing, staff didn't seem to know what was going on. Won't be rushing back for a meal.
Nathan Pleydell-Bouverie
Awful. It is such a shame that one of the best locations in Perth, with a huge amount of potential has been ruined by such a poorly run establishment. It may have only opened and need a few weeks to "find its feet" but clearly lots needed ironing out before this opened. <br/><br/>After ordering 2 cocktails from their meager list of 7, we were given a number and told to find a table and wait for them. After 30 minutes we started asking wait staff what was happening, they took no interest as "they didn't our order". When the cocktails did come out one of them had clearly been sitting getting warm while they forgot about the order. Poorly made drinks.
Gary Hon
So you enjoy a few drinks here all good ... Then you get told I'm sorry you are wearing thongs so please finish your drink and leave .. Hmm so after spending $300 plus on your table you are singled out .. But no one else is what do I think ? My money is not good enough for them .. Oh lucky the great service from the waitress made our experience enjoyable
John
The music is so loud we thought we were in a nightclub !! Sunday session is meant to be chilled laid back I thought ?? Would be better on a nicer day so windy .. But service was good girls very Kim to us

Don't bother. My partner and I visited the Aviary, thinking as we walked past it it might be nice to pop in for a drink and a meal on a lazy sunday afternoon<br/>the weather wasn't great, spitting with rain and windy, which isn't ideal for a rooftop bar, and there was little shelter.. but we managed to put up with it. We thought the menu was a little small but had nice options of simple burgers. I didn't realise however that it was BBQ type style of cooking, burgers served in tiny little IGA type soup buns...the small serving size of the burgers were so disappointing..and at $15 a serve, value for money suddenly didn't seem to be true. After getting a bit fed up with being rained on, we found a little nook with a few recliner chairs under cover, only to be moved on about 10 minutes later as there was a 'VIP' function starting in 5 minutes and they needed the space...could they have not told us that from the start?<br/>...lack of shelter from bad weather, very few table settings and no platers or cutlery served with the meal, only one flimsy napkin and then having the burger drip all over me was not pleasant ...so disappointing..on the upside the lady who served our drinks was informative of the menu and had a nice manner about her..<br/>unfortunately we will not be coming back here

Bestttttt in Australia. Why do u wanna go to melbourne and sydney where perth has got this beautiful place ... not just this but many others too coming ... overall, this is gorgeoussss love this placeeeee to the pieces .....

Nest - Good party food, nice for summer. I didn't dine at the Aviary but I had finger food at the rooftop bar (Nest) - I thought the food was quite good (I mean, marinated, cooked really well) and service was great. <br/><br/>They cater for parties and charge per head for the finger food and free flow of drinks , it's a bit pricey but in this case, you get what you pay. <br/><br/>I will NOT be wearing a skirt here unless its a still summer day.
Perth Pearl
I’ve been looking to visit a rooftop bar in Perth and the first one on my list, was the Aviary’s Nest Rooftop Bar. The Aviary itself is a sensational restaurant and it seems that the quirkiness and style has spread from the restaurant on the first floor, all the way to its rooftop bar that overlooks the bustling Williams St. Everything about this establishment has been carefully planned to ensure that you feel like you are literally walking into an Aviary. From the wallpaper covered in birds, to the proud peacock that overlooks the staircase, the design and decor is creative and fun and perfectly represents the ambience of this vibrant gem. With Perth’s Skyscrapers towering over you, and the echoes of laughter coming up from the street, time seems to stop at the Aviary Nest Rooftop Bar and you can enjoy one of the marvellous “Nest Pitchers” with friends (cocktails pitchers designed to share) or you can pick something else from their extensive wine and beer list. The food in the bar is

I am not usually a red wine fan but the moment I tasted their Mulled Wine, I was in ♥ Mulled Wine to me is like Sangria but instead of being a cold drink it is warm...

We both were after a casual pub style lunch, so we enjoyed our burger and pizza. While I wouldn’t absolutely rave about them, they were well cooked and good value for money ($18-$25ish). Its a top spot for a casual afternoon drink.

This place certainly made a splash when it opened in November last year (2011). Queues would be the norm most nights of the week. Artificial grass, big canvas umbrellas, high wooden tables, massive big screen (awesome on Melbourne Cup day!) and a killer view are the elements that set a über cool ambience at the Aviary. In the Bird Cage downstairs and indoors, you’ll find a restaurant that has had mixed reviews. Expect to pay Perth city prices for a drink here.<br/>

I wouldn't mind a revisit, at an hour where there is still enough light to make out what's around me and what I'm actually putting in my mouth. And despite the issues floating around about their service levels, The Aviary is flying high with all the socialites in town and on social media. I couldn't avoid all the little birdies around town tweeting and tooting about its existence.

Walking through the front door, you get a taste of the venue’s unique style. Aviaries and birdcages hang from the entrance, hummingbird carpet adorns the floors and the walls are wrapped in custom-made wallpaper.

The Aviary boasts two levels. The first, named 'The Birdcage' is a loungey bar and restaurant with fancy décor, and heaps of floor space. I went in last Wednesday after work and it was full of suits, looking to impress. The bar is round, so you would think that the staff would spread out in order to get as many orders filled as they could - but no, urgency didn't seem to be the vibe, and they all clumped into the same area, almost falling over each other to serve the same section. All in all, I didn't wait too long for my wine and the staff were polite, however it all looked a little disorganised. Upstairs to the Nest, you are greeted by a lot of Astroturf. The vibe is pretty good, and feels like a beer garden at a pub, which is odd, seeing as the bar décor is trying to tell me something very different, all modern minimal design. It would have be

Being a new venue, I would have liked the staff to be more attentive otherwise The Aviary will be building a rather bad reputation for themselves. It looks like a great after work place to hang out, lets hope they get their act together!

Overall it was an enjoyable dinner with great and friendly service. I love the recommendations by the staff! I’m glad I decided to try this place out even though I’d heard average reviews from friends. Would be back again!
