Review Lowdown Espresso Bar - Perth

Jessica Barnett
Coffee is always delicious. The staff bring the coffees out to you sitting down in the busy, crowded common area so that you don’t have to stand around and wait. Their second fiddle toastie is amaaaazing 🤤
Anh Doan
Toastie isn’t as amazing as Eillo’s, but still yummy :-) Coffee was okay. Location is really nice as it’s next to a nice open seating area under glass ceiling.
Robba MD
Nice tasty coffee. Beautiful place to sit outside too!
Lance W
An amazing coffee shop, excellent tasting coffee and excellent staff! They greet you kindly and know exactly who's order is who's and it comes out in little too no time at all! Amazing for the amount of orders they have! An coffee spot that everyone should know about
Clifford R
The coffee was just ok. Considering the high ratings I expected better. Staff serving us was super friendly which is always welcome. Disappointed.
Josiah Bloemberg
Although small, this place has a great vibe. Came for some good coffee, stuck around for great music. Even their standard filter coffee has a great flavor.
David O'Donnell
Good coffee, friendly staff, nice venue with mood lighting ;)
Bradyn Myers
This coffee shop provides excellent service, they thank you politely by your name everytime and greet you with lovely smiles. My favourite coffee in the city! Thanks a lot LowDown
Hedley Davies
I came for the coffee but i stayed or the service and atmosphere. Absolutely top notch cafe with awesome and friendly staff. 5 stars is selling them short.
Sean Mulroney
Consistently good quality coffee at reasonable prices, and the staff go the extra mile to make you feel valued.
Cam Bowden
This place has it nailed. Great coffee. Off the hook toasties. My new go to place in CBD. Well played boys and girls.
Dianne Ellaine Magtuto
Absolute best customer service. Staff are always cheery and the coffee always impeccable! The energy is very 'Melbournian' and amazing :) Highly rate.
Jerome Tse
Great coffee and a chilled out sit down area with free wifi from Australia Post
Ben Pfeiffer
This place is a little gem amongst a lot of crap so to speak. Having lived in Melbourne it takes me back home. What makes it number 1 is the customer service. Friendly welcoming staff, nothing's a hassle or complicated like a lot of places. I was sitting in the food court next door and they even delivered my order to me with a smile. Not to mention the highest standard of coffee and beautiful assortment of tasty toasted sandwiches! Definitely one of my favourite spots! Highly recommend! Keep up the good work guys!
Peter Parker
Great coffee and one very cute guy that works there..😃😃❤️❤️
Sophia KB
Still the best coffee in Perth!
Anne Keenan
Best coffee in Perth. Fantastic light bites and great service!!
Marianne Darrigo
Gr8 coffee - here from adelaide & most important thing was to find good coffee place - excellent - the recommendation was spot on !!
KrisKate Armstrong
Best.......just simply the Best Always remember who you are and exactly want you want every time Best
Jo Christofides
Perfection in every way! Awesome coffee, best service
Sophie McFarlane
I don't get to go here often enough :) would visit every day if I could. Great guys, great coffee, awesome find :)
Brett Princen
Seriously one of the best coffees I’ve had in Perth!
Arnaud Michelin
The coffee was good.<br/>The food was even better! I ordered a chicken sandwich that was amazing.<br/>I wouldn’t go there if I wanted to have a date or a catch-up with a friend as it is way too noisy to have a conversation, but I would recommend it for on-the-go coffee/food.
E-Tastic Food
If you came here to get your coffee - great ! It’s the right spot. If you decide to order food (toastie, baked goods) don’t bother. After the food is freshly prepared, it is left sitting on the counter. This is not my first experience..it has occurred multiple times. The lady who does the coffee run will only hand you your food (which has been sitting on the counter for over 10-15mins) after her coffee run is done. Please do something about your process
Amira Harwood
One of the best coffees in Perth (from one coffee snob to another). And make the absolute best warm tasty muffins I’ve ever had - have to stay away for the sake of my waistline 😊
Shane Remedios
Best coffee in Perth, served with a smile. Absolutely lovely staff who take care to remember your name; and it's never a long wait for the coffee (no matter how long the line gets...).
Authenticity
Coffee is great and I think I spoiled it by having it in paper takeaway cup. It was consistently smooth while sipping, it didn’t go flat throughout. The service could do more with smiles, and having a pre-order app that jump queue would stop me every time.
Casey
Great coffee and great service! If you're in the area come here to get your fix. They even offer a second shot free at no cost! Decently priced too!
Eri L
Great coffee close to work, feels like a bar inside as they have dark lighting, service is fast, can't complain - good for an early morning coffee fix before work.
Eero
Very good coffee. They have 3 sizes, small, large and xl. For the large they give you the option of having a double shot for free. It ends up a tiny bit too strong but delicious still! Though if you get an xl with 2 shots I think it will be too weak.<br/>They're quite fast given the morning crowds and they also sell their own beans for a really good price ($10 for 250g or $35 for 1kg). I'll definitely be buying their beans for home consumption.
Kenneth Lee
Adam and Luke may have left Lowdown a couple of years ago but this place is still banging out some of the most consistent coffee in Perth. Try their revolving filter coffees - so clean, light and tasty 💯
I.live.to.eat
disappointed :( cup not filled anywhere near to the top, and taste was extremely weak. no wonder the lady asked if i wanted a double shot when i ordered! should've taken up the offer!
Mei Ch'ng
I was craving for a caffeine hit after a mediocre lunch so we ventured to Lowdown in Cloisters Arcade. . Back when I was still working in the city, I used to have a sneaky cuppa every now and then. It's been a couple of years since so I decided to walk down memory lane. Service is friendly as always!
Abhinav Sarna
No place like low down for coffee! Simply the best. They remember your order and consistency is always on the mark. Not like every other place where coffee is either burnt or too strong
Emily Kelly
Lovely staff (friendly and cheerful), fast and high quality service. Only had a coffee but was very happy with it. Nice selection of treats for breaky, snack or lunch. Good vibes all around.
Clifford
The coffee was just ok. Considering the high ratings I expected better. Staff serving us was super friendly which is always welcome. <br/><br/>Disappointed.
Michael Thompson
I've only just started getting into coffees and the lowdown has claimed the title of best coffee in the CBD. Their bean is  Fiori which is made locally in the swan valley. I found the service to be nice and quick and the coffee was reasonably priced and tasted good. I grabbed a bunch of takeaways for work so cant comment on the fancy art they do
Dough Nut
Good coffee, personal service, efficient staff make for regular customers. This is one of my preferred coffee outlets when I'm in the vicinity of Cloisters Arcade in the CBD. Toasties are consistently good too.
OnePointFive
Lowdown is number 1 coffee shop on Zomato. I finally get to try it the other day. My coffee came with pretty latte art. It's slightly bitter but nice. Their Smoked Chicken toastie was delicious. Chicken got strong smokey smell and taste. Crews were accommodating. Would go back again one day.
Lovefooood
Omg I love this place, amazing coffee n yummy muffins! My boy friend n I went their after a friend told me to go n try it out. This place offers it all- good old customer service, excellent coffee n the best muffins. oh n u r valued here, not just a number or like some cafes who just shout ur name out rudely to collect ur coffee n be off like Nourish cafe in West Perth, great prices too, definitely value for money. Will Most certainly be going back. :) Please support these guys as they are AMAZING!

************<br/><br/>Update!<br/><br/>Just to let you all know....this is still the best coffee in the CBD. Sybarite appeared bearing gifts of Lowdown coffee the other day....it was heavenly!!!!<br/><br/>5/5 still stands!<br/><br/>End update!!!<br/><br/>**********<br/><br/><br/>It was a happy happenstance which took me to Lowdown this morning on my wander to work....<br/><br/>My 'just passing' morning coffee turned into an accompanying raspberry and white choc muffin....both of which were excellent. Up there with CBD finest!<br/><br/>Also must make mention of service which can seek you out of the morning throng with your coffee and not stand blithely behind a counter calling your name. Made my morning.<br/><br/>Back soon Lowdown!
Jess Grady
Best coffee in Perth, hands down. Toasties and cakes are amazing as well. If you haven't been, you're drinking crap coffee! Drop it and get there now.
Dee Dee
Ordered flat white for 3.50 each and it was good coffee. Nice cafe at he inside of Cloisters near a few other eateries. I like the design of this shop. Will go back again.
Daphne Schilizzi
Loved the coffee and a great price too! Not exactly a place I'd go to sit down for a coffee but you can imagine its target audience is catering for the business folk and they have that down pat! The muffins look delish too - will be trying that tomorrow!
Fo0die
I dropped by here twice in two days last week as I had a seminar to attend nearby. I sought out this place because of it's high ratings and great reviews. But I must say the coffees I had were totally different from what was described in the comments. The two FWs I had were totally weak, I could barely taste coffee. The first cup I had was watery and sour, but I went there on the second day and confirmed that it was how their coffee tasted. Very disappointed.
HotChocolat
Great coffee, it is a coffee institution in CBD. They use special blend Fiori beans. Plenty of seating in the food court. Always busy.
Danny G
These guys are a well oiled machine. Smashing out coffees and always remembering your order. Muffins are very bloody good. Easy to find a seat close by to sit and sip....
Littlekat
The coffee here used to be amazing, and the service was great. However, it seems to have gone downhill since a change of owners/managers a couple of months ago. It used to be a regular haunt but now visits are rare and disappointing. Last 3 times the coffee has arrived cold and watery. It's sad that the bearded hipster waiters and baristas who were great at remembering the regulars and made fabulous coffee are no longer there.
Candy
Excellent coffee and service. Even when its really busy the coffee is quick. Its cheap for perth prices too at $3.50 for a small double shot. Absolutely love this place.
Veevee
Smoothest coffee in Perth city, perfect every time. Just $3.50 for a small flat white. Prompt and friendly service always. The only downside is that they are only open Monday to Friday, and only accept cash. They offer a small selection of quality sweet treats at the counter.
Tobby
After reading review on this website, I expect too much. Of course, it's very good coffee (I tried soy latte), but it's normal and its different from what I wanted to have. I will come back and try it again.
Oika
I had very nice flat white here. It was strong but mild. good balance! Staff are friendly and have warm smile. l was relaxed. l would like to be here again.
Sybarite
I used to come here regularly years ago for the best muffins in Perth. Revisited today. Firstly, think they've taken "hip" to the next level, and not in a good way. The Dude at the counter was so grim. Ugh. And the venue was so dark, but I like that. The dimmer the better ;| Secondly, their muffins are still $3.50! Incredible! And they still have the best flavours in Perth (1. Banana and dark chocolate, 2. Pear, raspberry and white chocolate). Taste wise not as amazing as I remember but still pretty good. I hear they do amazing coffee but can't vouch for that other than the ginormous queue. NO EFTPOS.
Steffen
Damn fine coffee :-)) The best place so far in Perth CBD for coffee nerds. Caution: the place is a bit hard to find, nearly missed it. Between the main alley and the large seating area.
Dizko
Nice urban place in cloisters arcade in the city. The service is nice and quick. Friendly staff, well worth a look. The coffee has a nice bold flavour. I will be back for sure.
Joelene
Just had a toastie – Ham and Swiss cheese. OMG, that’s the way toasties should be!!!<br/> <br/>Coupled with the coffee – its business grade heroin!!!<br/><br/>Love love love!
CiderCraze
Very impressed by the coffee there, oh and the pastries! Convenient location too, totally makes really easy to spend a few extra bucks after having lunch.
Johnny Mirco
So finally I got to Low Down to try there ever so popular coffee blend.<br/><br/>As a big coffee lover I was excited to see what all the hype was about.<br/><br/>First of all, I need to express that I think coffee shops have it tough, its hard to please fussy coffee drinkers! I'm one who likes my coffee strong and when drinking a coffee I prefer to taste the flavour of the bean rather than milk and this is where Low Down was a let down!<br/><br/>I ordered a skinny long mac and to me it lacked flavour & left an unpleasant milky after taste.<br/><br/>My final scored was negative 1 point for 'cash only.' In this day and age it’s just annoying,<br/><br/>and negative 0.5 point for lack of flavour.
Lt
Great coffee!<br/>Excellent service<br/>Quick efficient service<br/>Well located<br/>Lots of people in suits come here for their morning coffee so must be good!<br/>Smooth cappuccino<br/>Well priced
Tegan Serene Wakefield
This place gets the best reviews and was super excited to try their coffee. Wasnt really anything to write home about. Typical blasé hipster attitude made it quite underwhelming.
Yoga Z
Expert coffee shop. How I know it? I had a barista course in Perth baristas school n the teacher said this place is probably his best spot for coffee in Perth. N I was not disappointed.
Raul
Great coffee (probably best in the CBD), cool staff and very handy location.  I don't line up for anything but I will for their coffee (except during rush hour in the morning). Cash payment only a pain but probably helps keep service quick and efficient.  Haven't tried the food yet but will soon.  Good work hipster dudes.
TakeMyOrderPlease
The coffee shop that we go normally during office hour, the coffee is reasonably good and the price is a big plus, a small take away for $3 in Perth CBD is not too bad...
Grendel
One of the first things that I noticed was the presence of a very unique item in a Perth cafe - a Fetco CBS 2021, a temperature calibrated coffee brewer. In a city full of espresso machines this thing appears to be unique. Actually it seems as though some of the frenetic pace of perth coffee has altered of late and a number of cafes have expanded beyond espresso in their coffee offerings. This is great in my opinion as it allows other aspects of coffee to be explored and will actually contribute to improving espresso through a better understanding of coffee generally. Back to Lowdown though: Lowdown is a ne
Truth Inc.
Top notch coffee that's for sure! Every time I go busy or slow I'm never disappointed from espresso to filter or even a tea. Lowdown has you covered
Rikki Burns
The other day Lowdown guy remembered my name for my coffee order. It really made me feel like someone who buys coffee there a lot. 4.5 stars.
Freckles
Picked up a coffee from Lowdown today and it was great! I'll be back again when I'm on that side of the city
Lizzypia
First time and absolutely will be back. My title speaks all way through my review. It was only a cup of flat white and i'm in love!
Ringo
What happened to the muffins?. Love the coffee as always, but what happened to the muffins? They've slowly shrunk over time and don't taste as nice anymore! I never used to get a bad muffin, but these days it all seems to be hit and miss! :(
Rebecca Brown
Consistently awesome coffee, amazing toasted turkish breads. Flavour combination awesome! Can't venture anywhere else on my one day in the city!!
Tara
The Best!!. The coffee here is one of the best in Perth and their brownies are out of this world amazing. And the staff are super lovely :)
Cookiemonster671
Fantastic. Without question the best coffee in Perth. The food is also scrumptious, they have a fantastic instinct for flavour and only use the best produce.<br/>My favorite part of rare trips into town. Makes the drive and parking worth it.
Badboy_warwick
Have yet to be disappointed. Great bunch of guys (and gals) with what it takes to make a great cup of coffee; whatever your style.<br/>The pricing, even better.
Lani Loves...
It's been a while since I was in the city so, I thought I'd pay a visit to an old fav. When I saw that the shop had vacated, I seriously entered a stage of grieving - which stage? I have no idea. I was all mixed up inside! Fortunately, I took a deep breath and started asking around ("for the love of all things sacred, where are they?!) and thank the heavens, I managed to locate them, a quick 180 degree turn from where I was standing. The new, and much larger, digs are great - moody yet calming! I never tire of the coffee. It's consistently good, the service is impeccable, and chances are, if you visit more than once, the boys will probably remember your name. They won't call you to collect your takeaway coffees, the owner will walk it out to you and personally thank you in the process. This is what is missing from the Perth hospitality scene!! I don't recall if the coffee prices have changed since the new shop move/fit out but for what you get, who really cares! From memory, I used to pay $3.50 for fiori coffee and bannister downs milks or bonsoy organic soy milk. Oh, and I always help myself to a muffin. I just can't resist. Winner!
Sarahgro
Best place in Perth for a coffee. This is the best place in the whole of Perth for a coffee they seriously make the best coffee here and the staff would have to be the friendliest ever I can't rate this place high enough 10/10 :)
Supa
Thought I'd finally check this place out, having tried so many other cafés in the CBD area, and I must say I don't see what all the hype is about.<br/><br/>For cost and sizing it is comparable, though the large seemed a little small. That may just have been my need for a caffeine hit though. However, what wasn't beyond doubt is the coffee was pretty much cold! Lukewarm if being generous. Very disappointing given all the positive reviews.<br/><br/>I won't be returning unfortunately.
Fran
1 coffee daily fix. Thanks for my daily coffee fix and morning good vibes. I've finished up work today in prep to pop bub. Fran.
Muzzafields
Perfectamundo. Guys keep up the great work. This place has a great vibe. They are pumping busy and deserve it. Great coffee cool people
PerthCoffeeSnob
Friendly baristas, mediocre coffee. I wanted to like to Lowdown. I've been several times and the service has always been friendly - it seems like it's run by a bunch of genuinely happy bearded hipsters. The coffee, unfortunately, was not great. Whether it was the beans, a poorly pulled espresso, or some combination of the two, I don't know. They also have a rather limited offering of single origins, which is disappointing.<br/><br/>If you're just looking for a flat-white on your way to the office, I'm sure Low Down will fit the bill (that seems to be the crowd they cater to); if you're serious about your coffee and are looking for an array of single origins and an espresso that's going to knock your socks off, there are much better options in the CBD.
Doyon.paul
World Class Coffee. This is probably the best coffee in Perth and as someone who has drunk coffee around the world, this was one of the best cups of Joe that I have ever had. The people at Lowdown have certainly got it down.
Joyce O.
Had a good, smooth flat white from Lowdown. Will be back!
CamSaya
Friendly staff and these guys really know how to make GREAT coffee! Bossman in Mt Lawley are run by the same crew and also do awesome coffee.
Chris Versteegen
Disappointing. I had heard much about the skill and quality of Low Down from people and reviews on the internet alike, however when I went there as the start of my Cafe Crawl, I was severely disappointed. <br/>The service was sub par, seemingly by a trio of guys too stoned to communicate more than a few words about their coffee when asked by an enthused customer.<br/>The coffee in question was an SO from Honduras by Fiori. Once again, Fiori brings to the table what it always has since their former head roaster Justin left - a bitter taste.<br/>Whether it was the coffee in question or the lack of skill for what had to have been an incorrectly pulled shot, the espresso I ordered was woeful. I won't be going back again, and I fail to see what all the good reviews are about.
Elainecfong
The Ultimate flat white in Perth. I would wait 20mins for coffee with these guys. They know your name and order by your second coffee. Have not tasted better coffee than from these guys!
Prestons Disciple
Delicious Gourmet toastie. Just had their French Lickum toasted turkish sandwich (smoked chicken, olive & mint relish, feta, peppers and spinach)... <br/>The guy smiled and took the order.<br/>sandwich tasted delicious and I am full.<br/>$8 lunch - not bad!<br/>will try their veggie toastie next time.
Niamh P Moloney
Love low down everytime...since I don't drink coffee that often and come in every now and again the fact that the cool cashier always remembers my name even though 100s of regulars come through a day just makes the experience so good. Thanks low down u are certainly the coffeeteers of the CBD
Grendel
My favourite. To those who wonder why some people walk in, get a coffee and walk out - ask for the filter brew! Pure black filtered goodness on tap for speedy deliciousness.
Nicole.aravidis
Delicious 100% of the time. I absolutely love Low Down - the coffee is always beautiful, the muffins, banana bread etc are delcious and the foccacia's for lunch are amazing!! <br/>The guys are friendly and always remember people's names and what they order. Love it!
AMayzing
Awesome muffins. I don't drink much coffee but all my friends who drink coffee love it. Be prepared to wait for 20 mins or so for your coffee. There's even a line outside before they open.<br/>I never used to like muffins that much but one day I was really hungry so I decided to buy one and now i'm hooked onto their muffins. The muffins are so moist and full of flavour. My personal favourites are banana with dark chocolate and pear with dark chocolate. Definitely the best muffins I have ever had. I have been bringing friends there to try their coffee and muffin and they think it's the best cafe they've been too.
Starks
Simply The Best. Plain and Simple, the lads make the best Coffee and Muffins in Perth and close to the best in the World, and I've had a lot around the globe.
TheVorkinator
Here's the Lowdown: They are the duck's nuts. Having frequented Lowdown on multiple occasions before, it was time to articulate my fondness for this mob in an Urbanspoon Review.<br/><br/>The dudes that work down there top blokes and second to none in the all-important category of customer service. They are seriously laid back, friendly and have a sense of humour. Exhibit A being the 50c 'douche tax' that sits on the menu gets a hearty chortle out of me everytime. Luckily I'm yet to be slapped with such a heinous penalty, but I'd imagine it would be tempting to enforce the fine one of the self-important, blue-tooth headset wearing, loud mouthed business people that swarm the area.<br/><br/>My weapon of choice was a double espresso and as per usual they did not disappoint. It was extracted near flawlessly and exhibited a full-bodied flavour that left me purring. <br/><br/>My colleague purchased a short-mac and provided the following insight.<br/>"The warm creamy texture of the milk in conjunction with the nigh-perfect coffee shot was incredibly satisfying", he said. "It was as though the God of Coffee grabbed me by the scruff of the neck, and dripped pure bliss down my gullet with his shiva-like lingum. If I were cleaning my ears with cotton buds at the same time as consuming this delight, I would have blacked out from the pure bliss overload". <br/><br/>18 out of 20. They are the business.
Elizzle
I have been going to Lowdown for the last 3 years and still love this place for my daily coffee fix.
Claire
Cant get any better!. Service - AWESOME!<br/>Price - Spot on!<br/>Coffee - AMAZEBALLS!<br/>Banana Bread - OMG DONT GET ME STARTED!<br/><br/>You guys are what all coffee shop owners should aspire to be!!!!
Kate Louise
The best..,.. ...coffee, food, prices & service!!! Seriously these guys know how to make a customer feel special, on a daily basis! Do yourself a favour, make Lowdown your regular.
ESP
Regular Daily Fix. My attempt to cut down on coffee has been thwarted given Lowdown is now on my route to work. <br/><br/>Every so often I briefly consider going elsewhere for variety, only to remember I will be paying more for less quality in taste and service. The upbeat and friendly nature radiates and then you're left with one of the best coffees in Perth to enjoy. <br/><br/>Castro was for me the only place nearby that could rival their coffee, however recent staff changes has resulted in a drop off in quality making Lowdown the clear standout. <br/><br/>Just a great way to the start the work day.
Mtan
One of my regular cafes!. Okay the coffee here is good. BUT far from being the best in perth. Probably the best Fiori coffee served in cafes. Also for the price, im sure a lot of people will be lining up for it. Since i work in the city i have tried a lot of coffees from here (since i drink 3-5 coffees a day!). The flat white had nice chocolate tones. However a bit milky for my taste. Had a long mac. It was slightly burnt so kinda disappointing. Drinkable but not that enjoyable. Ive also had many short macs from here. Very consistent throughout the many I have had. The flavours are there but it did have a bitter finish and slightly watery. Still better than a lot of the other cafes in the area though.

UNO = Loono. I have been going to Lowdown since day one and it is part of my daily routine. Everything about this place is brilliant .... right done to the fact that people are happy to wait extended periods for Perth's best coffee.<br/><br/>There are no favours for anyone in jumping up the queue.<br/><br/>When 50 people are waiting for a coffee then 17 minutes is a possibility. 50 people are happy to wait but not UNO.<br/><br/>I agree with Leroy - if you want your coffee quick then there are other options ..... UNO they were the places you used to go to before you realised how good Lowdown was.
Leroy Dude Has Game
Without a doubt the best coffee in town hands smacked down.<br/>The best bunch of bearded guys you will meet along with a girl out the back who knows how to cure my love for all things baked.<br/>UNO- I think your tastes would better suit a drive through where you can get a giant cup of crap in your ONE hand before you have even muttered the words "weak soy decaf FW"
Kiki
Hands down best coffee in Perth & service is always with a smile. Consistently great & totally worth the wait if you drop by during the morning coffee rush.
Fixie
Ratcheted Up. You can read 400 odd reviews below about the great coffee at the brothers Lowe cafe. It's all true the coffee is, and always has been, great, possibly the best in Perth. Easily better than the usual suspects you see in the top 10 best cafe/coffee articles (who are the coffee philestine's who write that stuff?). Ignore those articles unless Lowdown features prominently.<br/><br/>No one else in Perth is as dedicated to serving quality filter coffee. A different bean each week. Tasting notes on the counter. Best filter and best value to boot.<br/><br/>The espresso is first class. Not your usual chocolate bomb. Thoughtful, flavour filled espresso that the next shop isn't selling and has no chance of making as well.<br/><br/>The food has always been great, but it's gone to outstanding. <br/><br/>Their tiny kitchen pumps out all their food.<br/><br/>I often leave Lowdown feeling like I've been wasting money at restaurants. The team is spending the time to think through, test and taste their food and deliver great flavours.<br/><br/>The sandwiches are first class. No one is doing anything remotely as interesting in the city or putting anywhere near the effort. There's a good rotation of fillings and frequently new additions.<br/><br/>The muffins are Perth's best. They're not butter filled either so are healthier than most. Crunchy tops, soft inside and fresh fillings throughout.<br/><br/>The cupcakes are some of the best I've had, the banana with mocha frosting and salted peanuts was my all time favourite cupcake anywhere.<br/><br/>Fantastic. We're lucky to have them.
Saraxles
Radiohead. I decided to get a coffee this morning and a co-worker usually grabs her mid-morning coffee at Lowdown. Exceedingly busy, to be expected at 10am and completely understandable. The wait wasn't as long as I thought it would be. The coffee was surprisingly delightful, not burnt nor bitter considering the expected fluster of a busy environment. Unfortunately the person who served me, gave me the incorrect muffin however the mistakenly given dark chocolate with pear was nice. The chocolate was gooey though pear bites were firm. I am still somewhat undecided, will need to purchase again to explore more products and experience varied customer service.
LisaM
Awesome.. I have only been here a few times, and each time I have had a good coffee. The thing that impresses me the most is the way the owners remember your order regardless how often you visit. One of the very few coffee spots worth visiting within the Perth CBD.
Hungry Habibi
Love Low Down. Great coffee made by the charming beardy baristas. They remember you, your preference and are quite quick. There is often a long line of people waiting but these charming men whip through the orders pretty quickly and it is well worth the wait.
Otani
Consistently good!. LOVE THIS PLACE! Regardless of whether I drop in once a month, or visit three times a week, the boys always remember how I like my coffee. That and they always have a great smile for everyone. One of my favourite places in the CBD for great coffee.
Linda
The guys here are super friendly and the coffee is delicious!
Gurnard
Awesome filters, banged out super quick. hotter than the sun. super friendly cats behind the machine and till.
Barrymoves
LowDown does good, cheap coffee. But it's also consistently not hot, and often a little milky - cold by the time I get back to work, but at least it is never burnt :-/ wait times can be a killer, so lowdown is a victim of its prime location and reasonable price in many respects. Their cakes and muffins are tasty too
Coco Coffee Bean
BEST COFFEE in PERTH! Seriously the best coffee in perth, no joke! You won't be disappointed. Can I buy into the partnership guys? Xx
Jtaste
The guys here are always super friendly, there can be a 10-15 minute wait sometimes but the coffee is generally good, sometimes not very hot and milky but overall pretty nice!
Ashlee Ann
Get serve by the kings of Leon at low down. Consistent coffee and a 15 min wait... I can see why though. Amazing coffee
Andrew Smith
Excellent. Great value espresso bar serving smooth consistent coffee. Slightly milky but very nice flavours in the cup with a robust finish. Servced at drinkable temperature. Service with a smile. <br/>If i'm around the area it is definately the place of choice for me.
Trinh Nguyen
Best Muffins Ever!. And their coffees are delicious. Too bad that they're also super popular and hence the queues for the coffees. So I always grab a muffin instead to get my Lowdown fix. never disappoints :)
HungryKat
Love it. Love lowdown so much. This is my new favourite spot. Great, supercheap coffee served by some really friendly dudes. Haven't tried their sweet treats but they smell superb. Why can't other cafes follow suit and cut off a dollar from their prices?!
Chee Lai
Little gem. Tasty coffee (darker roast, so it's a more bitter) which is well priced and served with some friendly customer service. Sandwiches are tasty too.
Alana
Great coffee and really friendly staff. Worth the wait when it gets busy.
Flippy
Mmmm MUFFINS. I try not to buy my morning beverages too often, but Lowdown seems to have a horrible habit of luring me in with their mouthwatering muffins and delicious coffee. If that wasn't incentive enough, it's run by the possibly funkiest guys in town and I think I would hang out there for the music they play alone! I would love to know how they always manage to remember my name even though it can be weeks/months between my visits...

Great little find. I was in the city last week and call in for a light lunch and a coffee, the coffee, food and service were all excellent!<br/>The next weekday I am in the city and looking for coffee/lunch, this will be my first choice.
Eater Of Food
Brilliant!. This coffee shop is great. It probably has the cheapest coffee in Perth, the quality is great and the service is great too. The staff even remember people by name and are happy to have a chat with you. I would highly recommend Lowdown. It is in my top 3 favourite coffee shops in Western Australia.

Hey don't mean to rock the boat but each time I've bought a coffee here it's been quite average....not much depth or sweetness in the beans. Still reckon Howard St/Ristretto is the one.
Mameshiba
Awesome!. Great coffee (and price), all the guys (Mark, Adam and Craig) are absolutely lovely and good tunes. Coffee utopia!
Perth123
Superb Coffee and Service. These guys are superb....... really. I've been going there since they first opened. Each of the guys remember your name every time, the coffee is strong and creamy. Just how I like. The service is always top rate, the music is great. I get my coffee every day from here and they still manage to deliver great coffee every time! Better than Velvet, better than Castro! The guys are lovingly known as the "hairy boys" at our office. You may have to wait a while but its worth it. Its a winning combination - superb coffee, interesting conversation with Mark and Adam Low and Craig with smooth music. Keep up the good work boys!
Roxy_Morgan
Lovely coffee and very reasonably priced at $3.50 a cup, worth the little extra distance i have to walk! Only drawback is due to its popularity its quite busy so you have to wait a little while so if I'm in a rush I'll head elsewhere... Being able to preorder would be the only thing to improve on here!

Coffee made with the love of 3 bearded men. I love this place. Those guys always remember your name. I don't know how they do it. I suspect they take little candid instagram mugshots and paste it on a giant wall in their house - assuming they live together, it would have to be a 4 bedroom place, as one dedicated room would contain all these mugshots.<br/><br/>This would be the only context by which a police officer walks in and wouldn't consider it "creepy" or "dangerous", but rather "amazing customer relationship management". <br/><br/>It is always so packed out, I actually laugh that there is a shopkeeper in front of this place who has a coffee machine. That's some serious commitment to a lost cause. In fact, she is terribly rude when you stand remotely close to her shop while you wait for your coffee to be made by the guys at Lowdown.<br/><br/>The coffee is made with love. They even use that fancy milk you see in the shops that you know only rich people would buy. The beans, exquisite. <br/><br/>I especially enjoy coming here during a stressful morning of work having to deal the commercial issues of the mining sector which films such as Avatar tend to address in a very dramatic, thematic response. <br/><br/>They also do muffins. Fresh ones. All good. By far the best coffee.<br/><br/>There are only 2 issues to face there:<br/><br/>a) Expect to wait at least 10 minutes for your coffee<br/>b) Do not lean on the bench of the coffee shop in front of Lowdown - she will get very mad. <br/><br/>Other than that. I wish the bearded gentleman all the best success as they continue to grow their beards and hire other bearded baristas to make the best coffee around Perth
Prasad
Lowdown espresso- simply the BEST.<br/>Never dissapointed so far. Service is top and coffee is... So good I can't express...
Phoodie
Still the best..... Sadly, I haven't dropped in for a while, but these boys still rock and make the best coffee. Eva! In the whole wide world!!!!! <br/>A few other establishments around town could take a leaf out of their books and learn a thing or two about consistency.<br/>Please - consider a move down the terrace?
S32
Simply great. Great coffee, great price, great service.<br/>Pretty simple really!
Sawylie
The Best in CBD?. Has to be this place or Castro in my view....better music than Castro....better muffins than Castro. Good value...$3 for double espresso, $3.50 for freshly baked (still piping hot in the middle) muffins...smaller and not as nice an outlook as Castro, but still gets my vote every morning. Please stop making those muffins.

BEST COFFEE IN PERTH!. Love love love this place!! great coffee great muffins great service! Amust for coffee lovers
Yapd01
Finest in Perth. Lowdown is one of the very few coffee places in Perth that is capable of delivering quality coffee and customer service consistently. These guys would also take the effort to learn your name and orders, which explains their loyal customer base. Also give their freshly baked muffins a try, while lots of other cafes outsource theirs, Lowdown bakes them fresh each day with different flavours. And for me, nothing beats a combination of excellent and a tasty, freshly baked muffin in the morning.

Best coffee in Perth. Best customer service in Perth.
Dizey
Best coffee in perth - everytime!. Always great coffee and cheapest in CBD! and the dudes always remember my name!
Hip_e6
The best little coffeeshop in town!. What can I say? Great coffee, great tunes, great service and a happy vibe! The toasties are delish and so are the simple yet yummy assortment of tea cakes/muffins/biscuits... It makes getting to work or getting 're-inspired' to work so much easier when you get a pick-me-up from these guys!
Hep Cat
Dude ranch. Great, cheap coffee, lovely guys and girls working there and...finally...a place that has some decent music!
Bottomless Pit
Takes ages. Really good coffee and food if you don't mind waiting around for it.
Agapejon
Bearded Great Coffees. These 4 bearded men make consistently great coffees. I also go here because it's $3 a shot ... the best value for money coffee in the CBD.

Amazing. Excellent coffee. Excellent toasted sanga. Excellent service. A fantastic example of what a cafe should be. So glad to have another little slice of Melbourne greatness in the wild west.
Chris Bell
Best coffee in Perth. Excellent service. <br/>Any time I am looking for coffee in the city I head straight for Low Down. Coffees are cheap as well ($3.00). <br/>Give it a go. Highly recommend.
Fats Waller
Solid coffee under intense pressure. Good temperature and always consistent. Staff have ridiculously good memories. Cheers.
Emily
Best coffee in Perth without a doubt, friendly staff and cute boys making coffee! Gets extremely busy in the mornings but well worth the wait. Some really nice snacks and cakes. Had the pear and ginger cake the other day which was divine!
Rip Cantrell
Really slow due to being really busy. Loads of people standing around so lived up to expectations. Coffee cheap at $3 but nothing special. Staff and brothers running the place create a great vibe and really friendly. Great place to go if you're not in a hurry.

Get Down to Lowdown. I have been going to Lowdown on a semi-regular basis for about six months now (I would be there every day if it wasn't for work and meetings getting in the way and forcing me to run to a cafe closer to work for my caffeine hit... Stoopid work). <br/><br/>Big thumbs up from me. The guys do a brilliant soy flat white - not as easy as one might think, I have had many bad soy coffees that have made me sad - but not from Lowdown!! The coffee is smooth, the guys are always friendly, make a point of remembering and using you're name, the counter staff remember your coffee order once you've been there a few times and its just good. Seriously.<br/><br/>I would also recommend the breakfast bars and the muesli. Yum. Not to mention a brilliant cup of coffee is brought to you for the lowdown price (har, har) of $3.50 (well, ok, its $4 for us soy lovers - still a bargain!!). <br/><br/>This place rocks. Do yourself a favour and head down to Lowdown for a fabulous coffee made with love and care by some hirsute barristas. Tops.
Ellie Knapp
Can every one PLEASE stop going here so I don't have to get an earlier train to get my coffee. Thanks.

Lots of love for Lowdown!. Love the coffee at Lowdown, it's just like in Sydney or Melbourne's top coffee spots. These guys know what they're doing.<br/>Their muffins are amazing and their toasted sandwiches are even better!<br/>Prices are fantastic here, just the way it should be. Not sure how other cafes in Perth get away with charging their ridiculous prices, but these boys have got it sussed.<br/>I'll keep coming back!!
Vegocentric
Love it. I have to agree with just about everyone else here :-) The coffee is excellent, the toasted sangas are really, really very good (especially for the price), the muffins are delicious, the service is genuinely friendly and efficient. These guys know their lattes from their macchiatos, which is a bit of a relief in itself, because I know I'm actually going to get what I order (and it didn't take them long to remember my regular order, anyway). Word is out, because it gets insanely busy, but the guys never lose their cool or friendliness.
Z.
Nice nice. I do really like this place. <br/>I like that it's in the arcade, you don't have to be down a hard to find laneway to have a great espresso bar with wonderful coffee, service (lovely staff) and music, unpretentious and for everyone, most importantly it has a lovely vibe and is a place I like to be!
Coffeesnob
Best cofffee in Perth CBD. New to Perth in the past two weeks and after trying 20+ cafes we finally found a great coffee with excellent service at the prices we are used to. $3 for a creamy and smooth latte had us stay for a second one. The service was excellent, with water delivered to us while we waited for our coffee and topped up while we waited for our chaser. Decent coffee in Perth. Phew! We can breathe again.
FeedmeSeymour
Not low down on my list!. This place is great. Coffee that makes you happy. Flat white: smooth, not bitter, good temperature, full flavour but not too overpowering. Friendly staff that look like they good join Grizzly Bear if their bass player was to retire. Plus you got a little chococlate.
NOMA
This place's sensational. Consistently, great cofffee, great food (try the black pig, the smoked chicken or the roast lamb), great service and music to go with the greatness. I'm a fan.
Food101
Fab. Great coffee, great staff, only been there twice and both times greeted with a big grin and a 'Hi' as if they knew me.<br/>This time came specifically to try the muffins, at suggestion of staff had the blueberry and orange, very nice, light yet not in the 'cakey' category. Orange flavour didn't stand out but the huge amount of berries certainly made up for it.<br/>Also a fan of Cafe vinyl muffins but these are only $3.50 <br/><br/>Good job guys - Will be returning !!

Great coffee in the city. Great coffee, small selection of food however toasted sandwiches were delicious and they use quality ingredients
RJH
The best coffee in Perth, great service and they make great homemade muffins and soup!! I'm addicted!!
Cafe Addict
Excellent coffee and service. Had a great coffee from here. It was pretty busy when I got there around 7:30am, but they seemed to manage quite well, with only a short wait for my coffee and food. It's a small place, and the few seats fill up quickly, so it can be a little crowded during the morning rush.<br/><br/>Had my standard skinny cap and muesli with yoghurt (total was $7.50). Coffee was really good, very smooth. Muesli wasn't anything out of the ordinary (just muesli with yoghurt on top in a large cup), but I was happy to discover some chocolate buttons in the mix. You can have milk or yoghurt added or both, although they use plain yoghurt, which may not be to some people's liking. <br/><br/>The staff have a way of making you feel like a regular even when you're not, which I thought was great. And despite the number of people, the atmosphere seemed really relaxed. Would definitely return for the coffee and fantastic service.

Best Hungarian Sandwich ever, so good it has made my week. And they do one kickass latte

HO DOWN AT LOW DOWN. Most people are going to argue when it comes to who the better bean roaster in Perth, heck in Australia, but for now lets start in Perth. Five Senses this, Tobys that. The guys at Lowdown and Fiori have created a beaudacious blend here. An espresso leaves a lovely licorice after taste. The aroma of licorice remains in the espresso cup when you have knocked it back. The Long Mac was stunning too. A smooth robust cup of something special. Bean roasters need good Baristi to wrangle something like this, and the gregarious, well mannered and clever lads at Lowdown. Make one hell of a coffee. I hope they get their 3 group La Marzocco. Because they have quite a loyal following, Do yourself a favour, become a regular they will even remember your name. Top marks to some Top blokes.

A Rose In Any Other Location. They are great at their job but the surrounds and environment which you have to go through to get to them is their biggest let down. <br/><br/>I work on the Terrace so my ability to get to my favored Zekka at the end of King Street is sometimes limited due to a lack of time... When these situations arise - Low Down makes a good substitute. Melbourne-esq in it's fitout and it's service, the coffee shop has become an instant hit amongst a lot of my friends.<br/><br/>The problem is locale. If you are rushed - Low Down is great. However, when I want to sit and relax and discuss the days events over a great coffee (Coffee which Low Down provides consistently) I don't generally like to sit down in a place packed full of people, I don't generally like to sit down in a place opposite a cheap Asian deli flogging $2 pies and I don't generally like to relax in a shop placed within an old 80s-era mall.<br/><br/>How I wish the owners of Low Down would change their location. Move out on the street in some fresh air - then I bet my beloved Zekka would have a rival.

The slick new Lowdown Espresso in Cloisters Square opened recently & already has a loyal following of regulars indulging in their amazing coffee.
The Pavarotti
One more thing: their muffins are truly delicious. I highly recommend the Chock Norris. Come to think of it, Lowdown is kicking goals with pretty much everything they do! So much so that they are opening up a second store in Mt Lawley called Bossman Coffee. Their first day of trading is today (7/11) and they will no doubt be serving coffee 'like a boss'.
Eat Scout
Located at the back of Cloisters Arcade, this little coffee shop is always buzzing. Catering to the Monday-Friday crowd, seats are limited and most people line up for their takeaway brews. The coffee was strong and smooth. Small bites are available for lunch. The boys behind the counter are really friendly. Felt like a regular on my first visit. The dudes that work down there are the toppest of blokes and second to none in the all-important category of customer service. They are seriously laid back, friendly and have a sense of humour. Exhibit A being the 50c 'douche tax' that sits on the menu that gets a hearty chortle out of me everytime I see it. Luckily I'm yet to be slapped with such a heinous penalty, but I'd imagine it would be tempting to enforce the fine one of the self-important, blue-tooth headset wearing, loud mouthed business people that swarm the area.

If you’re ever in Perth CBD, this is the place to go. Your loyalties may lie elsewhere, like it did for me once upon a time, but Low Down’s great coffees will eventually win your heart. And as much as you try to hide it, deep down inside, you’ll find that you love those boys that make the coffees too.

Nobody does it like they do - every Lowdown coffee I've had is of that same distinct standard that only they seem capable of producing.
OneDayofLife
They used my my fav Fiori beans. The coffee was lovely I’m pretty happy with it.

I asked Mark, one of the baristas, what filter coffee is and he said "a glorified drip system". Basically, filter paper, grind, water drips through and voila! Or at least, I'm pretty sure that's the gist of it. Of course, for good filter coffee there'd be a whole load of finnicky things that need to be taken care of, but I don't think anyone's going to read this and rush out to make one for themselves, so I won't bother with the research.
Foodie Cravings
lowdown's coffee is really good. It's where I go when I need a caffeine boost, usually Monday mornings and during the week in the arvo.

Took a walk down to Cloisters Arcade this morning, for a shot at Lowdown Espresso Bar. It is small cafe at an end of Cloister Arcade if you entered from Hay Street. You can also enter from St. Georges Tce. When I got there, there was a long queue of peopl

As you all know, I am a lover of coffee. I am no expert, and never will be. Attending coffee sessions like these helps to give me an understanding of what I am drinking. Appreciating coffee is like appreciating wine. You have a slight interest in finding

Just last week, there has been a dispute (it might just be overly strong, let's just say an article in The West) over expensive coffee price in Perth as compared to Melbourne. I may have to agree, a regular cup of flat white in Perth might be $0.10 or $0.
Matt
They've recently captured my "Must visit cafe's when in the CBD" vote, and I think the coffee they are making is some of the best in the city.

Mild coffee flavor. I like it!
