Review Mama Tran - Perth

Patrick
Great spot for lunch, plenty of seating from table for two or you can fit a large group in here. Place was clean and tidy, great customer service! Food was good, reasonable prices and a great choice of items. Love the complimentary tea from the area they have set up. Also great selection of condiments, fresh beans, chili, lemon and the like, help yourself. Well set up place for good value meal that is very welcoming.
Kai
Very tasty and authentic Vietnamese food. It gets chockers in here during lunchtime. Love the help yourself condiments and free tea! If you don't like coriander you will have to ask them to not put it in as it is in most of the dishes.

Super friendly and efficient service, really large servings. Got a bonus spring roll for waiting slightly longer for my food to come out, which was nice. Beef pho soup was really tasty - among the best in Perth! Slightly let down by the beef being slightly tougher than it should be and noodles a little too soft. Stuffed chicken wings were okay, but not the tastiest - definitely benefits from dipping in some Sriracha. Overall would recommend :)

Fresh Vietnamese food with plenty of vegan and vegetarian options. Features a large indoor eating area with shared long tables and some smaller tables, there is also a small amount of outdoor seating. Always tastes fresh and the servings are massive, don't know that I've ever finished a meal!

The broken rice wasn’t too bad but the Pho was a disappointment, basically they filled the bowl with mountain of noodle with not much meat in it and no character taste to it, just a fish sauce taste. It’s not bad if you’re in rush for a quick lunch but for the price, I would go to a proper Vietnamese Pho restaurants.

I’m looking forward to trying Mama Tran a second time. I had the Rare Beef Rice Noodle soup and it was good, but just missed the mark. The rare beef was not quite as rare as I expected, there was no red left in it. But it was not over cooked either. The broth base was very tasty and the best part about the soup. I just felt that it was missing the strong infusion of flavours it needed, especially for $13.5 This being said, this place is clearly an institution. It’s lunch time on a Wednesday and there is a steady stream of business professionals coming and going and enjoying their lunches. Long communal tables inside and a small selection of seating outside gives you at choices of seating wether it’s lunch for one, of Friday Funch Day with the whole office. So, I’ll be back to give them another shot. I’m keen to try the Vietnamese Rolls and one of their coffees to see if I can improve my rating.

Fast service even when very busy during the suit and tie workers lunch breaks. Food was tasty and portions seemed reasonable. Average price from $9-$13 for the bowls.

Not a bad place at all. Service was fast, and it’s obviously a popular spot for locals, it was bustling. I had a bowl of chicken pho, a meal I eat in America regularly as it’s one of my favorites. The bowl of pho was not bad, but I think I prefer a richer broth, as well as I never did find any Basil. And they did have a wide variety of common Vietnamese meals to choose from. I think I will venture to another shop to compare Perth’s Pho.. I wish I had time to hit every spot.

The beef pho was delicious, and the beef was perfectly cooked. The service was fantastic!
Karina
This place is always crowded. Like the pho here althoufh theres not much meat in it, but price is good so no complaint here. Communal table setting gives this place more authentic feelings.
Service could get slow in rush hour.

I had a beef pho with all the trimmings. I thought the broth was a bit too sweet and bland and I don't like how you have to self service topping i.e chilli, basil, mint. I also don't think they serve both basil and mint as a garnishing looks like there was only basil. The puerh in the self serve tea urn was terrible! Treated like it'd been there forever and was cold. My friend preferred a chicken banh mi which I had a try of and it was nice but not nice enough that I would personally return.

Regular lunch place. Amazing fresh Vietnamese food, served quickly and with a smile. Favourite haunt for many office folks down this side of CBD. Have amazing Asian treats and other supermarket items and a little cafe area too.
Mr Robot
A Vietnamese restaurant that's similarly styled to a dining hall. The pho I ordered tasted like it catered to a more western palette. Nevertheless it was still a decent bowl of pho. I would rate the place a 3.5/5 if Zomato allowed smaller incremental ratings..
Authenticity
Not so authentic and just a western fast food. It opened at 7.30am but only serve Banh Mi, no Pho for breakfast like how they do back in Vietnam. Adopted western taste: a sweeter, generous mayo, more meaty and less veggie approach to the Banh Mi, and bread roll is not freshly bake like how they advertised. Feel like I ate at Macca or KFC.

I could come here everyday! The food is fresh and tasty.
My Mum often asks if we can go here for lunch when she is in town, she loves Mama Tran so much.
Portion sizes appear to have been significantly reduced. Noodle salad barely half filled the container and had a minor scattering of vegetables. Not as good as it used to be.

Fresh and delicious food from here! I love the chicken salad. It's got coriander, nice shredded chicken, crushed peanuts and a yummy sweet chilli dressing. Even though it's salad it's a large serving and fulls me up. Their made to order food comes out quick they run well even if the line is long it moves super fast!

Like Saul on his way to Damascus, I was converted by Mama Tran's stunning flavor combinations overlayed by a freshness that is quintessentially Vietnamese cuisine. This is well executed thoughtful street food served in a modern clean environment (bonus gluten free dishes....avoid the bloating). The Banh Mi Ga was delicious, a crispy rice roll filled with a dressed salad and chicken, the pièce de résistance was the Bun Bo Nuong a delicate noodle salad topped with beef strips. Two points of contention, the huge portion size, and the lack of JW Root beer, minor distractions in the culinary dance that is the Mama Tran. Congrats to the trustee's of Mama Tran CQ Trust.

Friendliest service I've experienced in a restaurant, the decor and staff give of a sincere family vibe that can't be beat (from the photos to the chain name)
Excellent and authentic food as well.

Compared to Sydney or melbourne, this supposedly best Vietnamese restaurants in town is mediocre at best. The worst part is they dont even have vietnamese chili oil??

The soup is just ok but not rich and deep, aromatic is very light
C
Pho was really delicious! Generous bowl of rice noodles and broth was very rich. Mint and coriander was very refreshing. The beef portion was on the small side. I would definitely come back to try other dishes.
Foodie In Paradise
A nice place for a quick meal. Free tea, sauces, extra lemon and mints are provided on self service.
I had the pho tai, which was quite nice. Friendly staffs and prompt service. Food was reasonable price too.
LittleGirlBigFood
I live for Mama Tran. It is simply delicious and wow such great prices. I go to the Claremont one more often but the city one is great for lunch breaks
The Dear Luncher
NEVER GONNA GIVE YOU UP, NEVER GONNA LET YOU DOWN, NEVER GONNA RUN AROUND AND DESERT YOU ....That song was written by Rick Astley ABOUT MAMA TRAN'S. Consistently good and always reliable, my one stop shop for Vietnamese when in Perth. Went again today and knew how busy they'd be so we left early. The line to order was already forming around the store before midday. That's when you know a place is a winner. Had the grilled beef noodle salad with chopped up spring roll in there, delish. Their spring rolls are world class.
Kudokun
Cheap, authentic, and big portion of Vietnamese pho and vermicelli rice make this place always so crowded especially during office lunch hour! That being said, once (and if) you get a seat, the waiting time is very minimal as they operate efficiently to serve your food.

I love their bun cha gio - rice vermicelli with spring rolls at only $11. You get a big bowl of vietnamese cuisine packed with flavour. Their spring roll is fat and crispy. Like many other vietnamese restaurant, they are pretty generous in providing the sauces (fish sauce, hoisin, etc). This place is ideal for a quick lunch despite being crowded, especially if you are a big fan of pho and rice vermicelli!
Jess Abbott
Love this place. The chicken middle soup is heaven. Only downfall is it's not open enough. The Claremont and Joondalup ones aren't as good. Claremont soup is very salty and Joondalup one has little flavour. This one is just right!
Foodie Fella
Good but not great - depends on what you get. The noodles in the mi kho were drenched in hoisin, but my girlfriends pho was nice. Inexpensive, but there are definitely better vietnamese places.
The Urban Bento
We love mama tran for a cheap lunch that's full of fresh ingredients and a flavour hit. It's fast, you get to add sauces to your heart's delight, tea is free from an urn... can't complain!
Serena Anderson
Love mama tran! When I worked in the city I'd come here, super delicious and never disappoints. Miss having lunch here :( lines are always long at lunch time so come early

Situated right in the middle of the CBD, it's an absolute gem for those working around the area for a quick Vietnamese fix.
A really spacious shop that not only does food, but also sells some Vietnamese/ Asian food, condiments, dried ingredients and ready-made chilled desserts. They even sell coffee for the morning/ lunch crowd.
Food was prepared at lightning speed, and there was a free flow of tea provided.
Good food, convenient location & affordable prices. The only pity is that they're only open on weekdays.
Happymuncher
My go-to place for cheap and delicious Vietnamese food. I don't know how they chuen our meals so quickly but props to the efficient service. The rice paper rolls are refreshing and great for a quick bite or eating on the go.

My favourite selection from the menu will have to be the mi kho- dry egg noodles with braised pork, pork mince and prawns.
Pete Himself
Just had a Vietnamese pork roll from here for lunch, wasn't bad but wasn't great. I'd heard lots about this place but it hasn't lived up to the expectation. Coriander was fresh, I'll give it that. Might have to give the hot menu a go another time and update my review.
Fooodmachine
One of my favourite places for quick cheap eat in Perth. Not authentic Vietnamese but that's okay. Their vegetarian rice paper rolls are delicious and the salads are always tasty and fresh as well. Always quick service. Love the set up, allows you to grab as much sauce / condiments as you like. Prefer Milligan St over the other branches but parking is a hassle.
Sybarite
My dish was so dry :( I haven't been here for years but used to really enjoy their pre-made rice dishes. Very reasonably priced at $8. Fast, friendly and efficient service. I will be back to try again.
Littlekat
My happy place! I've never had a bad meal, and I eat here regularly. Particular favourites are the Pho Ga and Mi Kho. The pho is actually better than pho I had in Ho Chi Minh City. The black rice pudding with coconut is a great tasty and healthy dessert option. The service is always very friendly and quick. Big ups to Johnny and the crew!
Mic
Just awesome. Cheap, fast and oh so tasty. Beat the lunch crowds before 12 noon or enjoy a seat at the " communal tables". The hardest decision will be what to eat!!!
Michelle Brydon
Beef noodle salad is my go-to dish here. So filling. The beef is always great quality, I've never experienced a fatty or gristly bit, which I really appreciate. Topped with a good handful of crunchy peanuts I love the texture and flavours. It's a little too close to work so I have to ration myself to once a month! Otherwise I'd be there daily. Solid, reliable, friendly. Go there!
Kiwi FIFO Chef
A quiet pre-Aussie Day lunch at one of favorite regulars. Enjoyed the usual noodle salad with grilled chicken and spring roll, with a side of crispy chicken wings. Never fails to please! 😁
Uttara Merchant
The Chicken Salad is my favorite item. Fresh, crisp, large portion and well priced at $10. Can get busy during lunch from 12 to 1, but the que moves very quick.
Matt Dale
I am a huge Mama Tran's fan! Can't rate this place highly enough. Their soups, vermicelli and Bahn Mi's are all delicious. Highly recommended.
Veevee
Delicious, affordable place to eat when you're in the city and wanting a quick bite to eat. I went with the beef salad which was a very generous serve and the flavor of the dressing complimented the contents of the salad to a tee.
Yoga Z
So happy they have mama tran in ct. The raw beef noodles are quite good. It's very quick as it opens in a food court. I hope it's can open seven days haha
Angel Sentosa
Love the broken rice that has everything on it. The pork terrine was so good! But you might not like the soft boiled egg that comes with it.
LittleMiss
Absolutely love the concept and the food. Been here only twice and both times left as excited as I was walking in. I think the food is more fusion than authentic but still was delicious. Can't wait to plan my next trip there!!
Jordy123
This is such a good spot for lunch! The food is fresh and the meat used is delicious. The service is also very quick so a great spot for a quick lunch break while working.
Dough Nut
Used to love going here. The service is still fast and friendly but for $14.50 from a stall counter, I expect a lot more than clear soup, a pile of noodles, 2 prawns and some pieces of something processed ... was it pork ... gristle.. rubber? The meat used to look and taste like much better quality.
Christina
THE best place to get banh mi. Party in my mouth. Definitely add extra chilli or hot sauce. Doesn't get 5 as the tables are often dirty even when it's not busy.
JZ
Amazing place for lunch, especially during a working lunch break! Healthy, fresh and top quality food, filling and substantial, never disappoints!
Tae Paige
I can't say enough about Mama's! Food is sooooo good, cheap, fast, fresh and refreshing! Love everything about this restaurant and even when it's been jam packed, it is never a long wait. So authentic and I would eat here for lunch and dinner every single day if I could!
Grendel
Mama Tran is a Perth institution and with new branches opening I can get my noodle salad fix even more easily than ever. It is basic food in a basic setting, and while not completely authentic it is so completely satisfying and so very well executed that I just don't care. Delicious every time and my reliable lunch or quick late-week evening meal favourite.
Facebook User
Best ive ever had.. Spring rolls were fresh and crunchy.
Chicken vermicelli and broken pork rice with pork confit. Do yourself a favour and try it.
Coffeewithme
As a Viet, grew up in Vietnam and have been eating the real Viet food for 20+ years, I can guarantee this is nowhere close to authentic Viet food. Pho broth is too sweet, and not to mention we don't eat broken rice with slowed egg.
Cheryl Monica
Speedy, fresh, great service and flavor. My go to work for my mid week work lunch.
Heshe93
Speedy Service & Average Food. He: Super quick. Nice coffee. That's about it!

She: Unpretentious eatery in the Perth CBD. Great lunch spot but do not worry about driving all the way here to eat though. Nothing to rave about.

Rate: 6.5/10
Thisclockiswrong
Pho Ga. I visited the. Claremont branch and found the ambience great, the staff friendly and the presentation pleasing, however, I found the broth lacked flavour/depth. On the condiments table it's was great to see chopped chilli, but if your going to have chilli you should have the hot version, the chilli they had was about as hot as capsicum !
Occasional Foodie
Friday lunch. Had a nice noodle dish here with spring rolls on top instead of meat. They can vegetarianise some of the dishes if you ask. Just be clear you mean no meat as i found a prawn in my food but could have been an accident. Tasty food though and pretty popular with the lunch crowd.
TubbyGrub
Best Vietnamese in CBD. Always chockers and for good reason, it's awesome! The Pho is delicious, as good as your morning dose in Vietnam, just add your desired combination of soy, hoi sin, chilli, lemon and fresh herbs. Also highly recommend the dry noodle salads, particularly the grilled pork, which was a favourite in Ho Chi Minh. I try something new as often as possible when I force myself away from the Pho and am never disappointed! Could eat here every week! A firm CBD favourite, highly recommend for a delicious, filling, fresh and reasonably priced meal.
Killroy
Now open in Joondalup Laked. Still the BEST Vietnamese food in town. Love the Pho Tai.
Wes
Nice Chicken Chilli Rolls. They're no Hong Ha, but still worth the visit for a Banh Mi roll.
Jennyha1010
This is not real Vietnamese food. They re full of msg and over price.
Fantasticfoodie
Yess!. So fresh, so nice! Head there after work with friends or on a date for cheap and delicious food. The prawn and chicken salad is refreshing and delightful and the free mint leaves, chillies and lemon slices are such a nice touch! We recommend the place.
Adrian Cayley
Fresh, tasty and quick. Have eaten here several times and always enjoyed it. Kids love it, I always try and bring home a Bahn Mi for them if I am in the city. Not quite traditional Vietnamese but pretty good version. Everything is reasonably priced, healthy and delicious. This is fast food Vietnamese Style.
Stephanite
Best West End lunch spot. Easily the best spot to grab lunch in the West End! Consistent dishes, friendly staff, reasonable price.

Try the dry rice noodles with pork and prawns!

See you in an hour Mama!
Tommy84
Love You Mama Tran xoxo. The most delicious and consistent quality food in Perth.
Everything about this place is A+. Stand up and take notice Perth. These guys know customer service.
Dickfiddler
Overpriced and too commercialised. Nothing special and over priced for what u get. Mainly caters to the white office crowd that has no idea what real Pho should taste like. $8 for a BMT, give me a break. I can get 2 in mirrabooka or Richmond for that price.
Peter Pilot
Would eat here daily but would be the size of a house. Great lunch fresh made to order. This place is hard to beat.
BenD
Regular weekday lunch diner. I regularly eat at Mama Tran, the food is fresh, incredibly tasty and is reasonably cheap. The dry noodle salads are my favourite two dishes but all of the food I've had there has been great. I also like the communal approach to the dining area and the small goods you can buy can be handy too - when they're in stock the Khao Shong wasabi peas are the best you'll find.
Gourmandius
Clean lines. Modern simple decor. Food is average almost mass produced feeling.
Bootsy
Great food, super fast service. Winner!
Wantoeat
I think all the raving is done by their member of the family or people just don't what don't know what great Vietnamese food is all about.
Baristar
Delish. Went in for dinner last night. had the vermicelli and springrolls salad. fresh ingredients. good value for money. staff is very friendly and attentive too. definitely coming back
Paul Kim
Questionable. Obviously people haven't tried real good vietnamese foods
Mini Manu
Yum. Great place for a bowl of noodles or a viet roll at lunch time or in the evening.
They even allow our kids to take in food from next door so we can all dine together.
Joe
Meh... Not sure what people are raving about.. taste of their food is pretty average. bit too expensive
May Mich
Good banh mi. A good vietnamese place for delicious pho & banh mi. lunch hour is usually packed with ppl, it's like a battlefield. they've also got some asian groceries on the shelf available for purchase~

Mama Tran is the best Vietnamese in the CBD - great service, delicious food. Black sticky rice pudding is a must!!
Beserker
I Love Mama. This is the best. It is so good to find a place that is delicious and healthy and outstanding value. The decor is awesome and so are the peeps that work there. If I didn't live 40 minutes down the freeway, I'd go there every single day.
Amanda
Amazing. Cheap, fresh and healthy!! High recommended :)

Nice experience. Good tasty food, good size portions, great price, friendly staff , Thumbs Up !

A new favourite. Am so glad we went here for dinner Thursday night, my sister and I have found our new favourite Vietnamese place to eat Pho. The rating lives up to expectations and it's going to become a regular when dining out.

Located right near the stadium, street parking after 6pm wasn't a problem. It's a large, clean, simply decorated establishment with bench style seating towards the back.

A large offering of noodles in soup are on offer with a few choices of rolls, salad and additional options like spring rolls. It's all pretty much self service, help yourself to free condiments and tea and place your order at the counter. They call your number when your meal is good to go.

Ordered the Pho tai - rice noodles with beef, Mi kho - dry egg noodles with pork and prawn and two spring rolls. I ordered some extra takeaway for my husband, spring rolls and the combination Tam bi suon cha - three kinds of pork with rice.

The broth of the noodle soup was delicious. Lots of tender beef and a generous serve of noodles, we agreed that the flavour rivaled other Vietnamese restaurants we enjoy. The egg noodles were flavoursome and the pork was thinly sliced, tender and contained nice white pork meat minus any gristle. The spring rolls were the best I have eaten. The filling could be seen and were like homemade rolls. Shredded carrot, Chinese mushrooms, cabbage and chicken = outstanding.

The total cost for all this food (+one bottle of Mt Franklin water) came to $48.20. A bargain for three meals and we left feeling fully satisfied but not stuffed. We'll be back next week.

NB: The takeaway proved to be a hit. A large serve of rice, lots of meat (and a porkchop) and the same delicious spring rolls. All that remained at the end of the meal were a few missed grains of rice and a bone from the chop. My husband thoroughly enjoyed it. Thumbs up all round.
Timsee
Disappointing- Bugger!. Expected great things but we were very underwhelmed. Firstly we had to fend off a queue jumper and the girl on the register was no help stateing " I dont know who was next" which was surprising as we had to wait a while as she finished telling a story to the customer in front of us, thought she would have noticed us but apparently we were invisible.. anyway... We ordered fresh rice paper spring rolls, a Viet baguette and a beef noodle salad dish. The first 3 bites of my spring roll all had my teeth bouncing on Chicken gristle- nasty. How hard is it to remove the gristle from Chicken meat? We should have sent it back. The Baguette would have been good if it wasn't so sickly sweet and my beef noodle salad looked great but was also very sweet. Whats with all the sugar??? It ruined the flavour. We are big fans of Vietnamese cooking but have never tasted food so sweet. Either we were very unlucky or Perth peoples expectations have sunk very low whereby below average food now receives rave reviews, I dont know why. What I do know is we wont be going back, and we noticed posters up everywhere advertising a new store they were opening in the Carillion. One piece of advice, save the gristle for the bin, Chicken is not that expensive...
Mr And Mrs Blog
Mr and Mrs Blog. Free green tea! Brilliant. Yummy. Fast.Fresh. Very very impressed!

Best Spring Rolls in Perth. Best spring and baguette rolls in Perth.
Looking forward to the Carillion store opening so i dont have to walk so far :)

There are no words. I am actually addicted to Mama Tran. I feel that many others are too. We need to start a group. We could meet at Mama Tran....
I love the rice vermicelli with spring rolls. It's all I ever buy. The salad is so fresh and crunchy and cold, and tastes AMAZING with the warm spring rolls and tangy dressing.
I feel bad saying anything negative here, because I love Mama so much, but my only gripe would be that I wish the other dishes came in vegetarian options so I could try them too. I can only imagine that they are amazing too and I feel like I'm missing out...
Keep up the tasty work, Mama.
V
Wow! I love this place! So busy yet staff are friendly. Great spot for a cheap casual group dinner, if only it opened on other nights of the week and weekends!
MickyD
Great fresh flavours, generous portions and very well priced. What's not to like?
Southfreo
Good Fast Vietnamese. Had my first visit to Mama Trans today. Was chasing a Bahn Mi Which is one of my favourite sandwiches. Well it was delicious. I also had the Bo Kho (beef stew) which was its usual wonderful aromatic flavoured tomato based beef stew.

My son had the Pho and whilst many raved it's the best in Perth it isn't but it's still very good.

All in all the service is fast and the food is well made albeit a little expensive for a hawker styled wait in line to pay before you eat venue. Regardless, I would recommend Mama Tran to anyone looking for good Vietnamese food in Perth central.

Thinking I should have bought another Bahn Mi for later.
ComerAlgo
Great place to kick off Friday night!. I'd heard a lot about Mama Tran but never had the chance to pay it a visit. Finally convinced some mates to have dinner there Friday evening before going out and it definitely lived up to the hype! The food came quickly in generous servings and best of all there was no corkage so we could BYO drinks. I had the rice vermicelli with grilled pork and spring roll and it was definitely an indecisive person's ideal meal - noodles, meat and a side all in one. And it was absolutely delicious! Highly highly recommended.
Jezebelllll
Chicken baguette. I highly recommend! Quick and efficient setup.
Foodie85
I had the vermicelli noodles with bbq it was tasty... but for a reason. Its full of msg..as soon as I had finished the meal I was so thirsty and my mouth was dry. Make sure you take a bottle of water with you. Or 2
Janet
Love mama tran and judging by the rating, I'm obviously not the only one.

I eat there nearly every day and I love the speed of the service and the fresh and tasty food. My Viet friends love the Banh Mi in particular. Beat the rush and go at 11:30 or 1.

Just thought I'd chime in as a loyal regular, given the recent influx of negative reviews- all by people with new accounts and only 1 review (or few reviews)...suspicious and tacky. And btw, bean sprouts cost more than rice noodles... And if you're unhappy just say something or pay $0.50 for extra noodles...
Cost Saving
Officer Lunchers Beware!. A wonderful place on the West End of St Georges, I'm a returning customer to order the Pho Tai. What I got was nothing like my first experience. I thought I ordered Pho Tai instead I got Pho Bean Sprouts. Can tell the owners started earning some cash and believed the next way to make more money is by skimping on noodles, not returning here again. I thought maybe it was just my unluckyness, asked a stranger next to me who ordered the same dish and he too was unhappy he got bean sprouts with a sprinkling of noodles. What a joke of a joint.
Les
Large and very tasty fresh meals at good price. Faultless for a quick lunch. Been twice. Love it.
Teacup
Nothing great. Stay away from the salads. They are tasteless and overpriced.
Bonbon
Boring pho. Don't understand the hype. Much better places in china town. Ok If you're a 9-5 city worker, but if you want value for money and tasty pho go elsewhere
Supa
Had lunch here with the family. All enjoyed our noodle dishes. Chicken rice paper rolls were filling. Great service! Will definitely return.
Simone Spry
Tasty!. We stumbled across Mama Tran before a concert, as we just picked something nearby that was in the Entertainment Book. Very yummy! I have since discovered it wasn't such a "find" - my friends already all knew about it!! It's a lovely little place, cheap, clean decor, but the food is amazing and excellent prices ($10-$13 for dinner - can't go wrong!). Love that they have a little table with sauce, chilli, etc to help yourself. We will definitely be visiting again!
Vinelli
Best Pho in Town!. The place to head to if you have a hankering for some soul-warming pho. Hands down the best pho in town. Service is always friendly and the other dishes are just as good. And while you're there, you can pick up some asian groceries which they stock as well. How's that for convenience?!
Wei Ling Ooi
Amazing pho!. Definitely one of the best pho in town. The broth beautifully made and the noodles, just al dente. I have forsaken Northbridge Vietnamese restaurants for this joint. Shame it only opens on Thurs & Fri nights & weekday lunches.
Sue
Popped in before the theatre at his maj. Fast service. Tasty food. Relaxed. Great!! Hit the spot in quickest time.
Lunademiel
Love that place!!! Food is amazing, service is so friendly and quick. Addicted to the Mi Kho (dry egg noodles) and the prawn fritters! Can't wait to be tomorrow lunch time again
Darkcherry
Delicious, fresh and price is also reasonable. Worth the hype, I will be back for more :)
Indigestion Kid
Gold! Try this place,it's a winner. Tasty fresh, affordable and so quick. You won't be disappointed.
Dan
Love it!!! Best Vietnamese I have ever had, so fresh and so affordable for Perth. If it wasn't such a walk from work, I'd be eating it a lot more than 2 times a week!
Nerdy Gastronome
Hits the spot. Yum...$11 for a big bowl of Pho Tai, which I drowned in mint and lime juice. Tasty broth, and perfect for 'soup days'. I left pleasantly satisfied.
Savannah
Amazing. The food here is SO SO good!!!!!!!!!!! and BYO.. even better!

My place to go in Perth. Mamma trans is the place I eat at when I'm in Perth for work. A home away from home
Pris
I miss my mama. Great, affordable food. Love the rolls. Love the stews. Wish it was opened on weekends (thank goodness its opened Thursday-Friday nights) !
M
I love this place. Extremely fresh, clean authentic flavours consistently great every time. I am a regular and will continue to be so as long as this place exists. I wish they were open everyday for lunch and dinner. Bahn Mi Thit and Pho Tai are what I always get.
Bearded1
Go to Mama!. Alright then this is getting ridiculous, I actually find myself sucked into this restaurant every day, I am powerless to fight the hold this place has over me.
Fresh fast and delicious. It never seems to matter how many people are there, there is always a seat and the food flies out of the kitchen with truly remarkable consistency.
Best lunch spot in Perth.
Adam Linton
Service is great, staff friendly and the food is excellent. You wont find a better value, quality vietnamese meal in the city.
Wemblacross
So fresh. So yum. Place is usually packed at lunch but they still manage to get the meals out quite fast, just what you need during your lunch break. Service is friendly and always with a smile. Will continue to come back here for some time.
Cara
AMAZING. Best Friggin Chicken Roll I have ever eaten for $7.00 get on board people you don't want to miss out on this we get someone from our office in Osborne Park to drive in to collect them for us they sooooooooooo delicious.
Cactus
Had pho rare beef and my friend had pork chop. Was a great lunch for a very good price. No wonder it is so busy. Will be back to try more! =D
Wisatakuliner
Nothing special. Again with so many glowing reviews, we decided to try this restaurant. So we ordered Pho, which Vietnam's national dish to see if it's authentic or not, only to find it disappointing. The flavors are lacking and missing the usual fresh beansprouts, basil, mint, which you usually get on a separate plate in proper Vietnamese restaurants. If Vietnam's national dish is not that good what else can you say about it?
JasperZ
My Favourite Mama. Lunch plans?
Mama's is always my first suggestion when I'm meeting someone for lunch, it's amazingly quick, great servings & fantastically priced - your only letdown may be getting a seat as they fil up fast!
I've tried the following & all are superb:
- Pho Tai, Mi Kho & Bun Cha Gio (one of my favourites)
The takeaway salmon sashimi was also beyond my expectations (for a takeaway), like butter it was that soft.
So excited that they'll be openning for dinner so I can bring non-CBD working friends :)

Fresh, tasty and well priced. Great food, friendly staff, efficient production with lots of seating in a 'trendy' space. Take away well executed also, with separate little containers so your pho doesnt get all soggy whilst you hike back to the office.
Big TICK!

Come to mama!. Been here a couple of times and now and they seem to have hit the jackpot - always crowded. Good, fast, fresh and tasty. Reasonably priced and love the Come to Mama t-shirts on the staff.

Get In Early. The best way to enjoy Mama Tran is to arrive before the crowd, which usually means taking an early lunch. Prices are very reasonable around $10 and very filling.
Fave will always be Pho Tai, soup tastes almost as good as the one my parents make and is capable of rendering me with nostalgia. Food is relatively quick for how busy it gets. The hard part is getting seats.

Soups could be a little hotter (it's not hot enough if the raw beef slices don't cook quickly enough in the soup).
Overall pretty good for a fast Vietnamese lunch with the husband on our lunch breaks.
Love the ability to add whatever condiments and sides needed eg. As many lemon wedges as I want.

Also have Banh Mi Thit, Bo Kho and other prepacked meals which I have yet to taste, it's hard to walk past the pho and ask for anything else though.

Awesome. Best lunch option in the west part of the CBD. Nice fresh tasty soups and noodles. Take-away is also very well done.

Nice. Love their sushi, rice paper rolls!

A quick lunch. I was intrduced by my freinds to visit this place for lunch. I enjoyed the food its fresh and fast. The best of all i enjoy the soy bean drink which is not so sweet and i reckon it's made fresh on the day.

Whoah!. The Perth CBD will never be the same again, I work in West Perth and my workmates and I regularly bus it to the City JUST so we can eat here, amazing! Staff are really friendly and the Pho is done just right, loove the Vermicelli with Chicken and Springs Rolls - there's heaps of Asian grocery stuff for sale too...CHECK IT :)

One of my new favourites. Friendly efficient service. Have had the beef pho and the grilled beef in noodles. Would definitely recommend Mama Trans.

I think I could actually live in a bowl of Mama's Pho Ga.... This place is so good, I ate there 3 times last week and I have every intention of doing it this week too... and the week after that... and so forth. The Pho Ga (chicken rice noodle soup) is the best i've had since I was in Vietnam. Fresh, tasty, packed full of flavour... Mama Tran's is officially my new number 1 lunch spot. Get takeaway if it's too packed out.

Love coming here for lunch. It's not exactly Viet Hoa but it's still very nice. Some of the food is precooked due to small kitchen (spring rolls & grilled meat). You need to be ready to dine in a communal fashion. Cheaper than Phi Yen Enex 100 but less variety.
Mameshiba
Best Vietnamese. Before Mama opened, I would go to Enex for Vietnamese, however this is the best!! Great food, especially the bbq pork noodles and the service is efficient. Get there just before 12 if you want to dine in.

Fresh chicken noodle soup on a cold Winters Day!. What a lovely vibrant place to eat an aromatic fresh vietnamese soup! Reasonable prices, good portions (I couldn't finish all mine) and the staff are oh so friendly. Definitely worth a try if your looking for fresh vietnamese food in a warm atmosphere.

Keep up the good work. I have visited Mama Tran a handfull of times, the food is good value, fresh, yummy and a welcome addition to the West End of overpriced offerings at ths end of town. Go early for lunch so you can grab a seat, otherwise the line was almost out the door today at 12.20pm!

Perfect. Popped in for a quick lunch and had the rice vermicelli with grilled pork and spring rolls - $10, was ready within minutes and was so full of fresh flavours my mouth buzzed for ages afterwards!
The place was packed after 12 o'clock but the turnaround is quick and the staff very friendly and efficient. There was also quite a selection of 'grab and go' options which were tempting - as were the port baguettes which I resisted but looked tasty.

...tasting the noodles with the dipping sauce tossed through was a strong positive for this bowl of Bun Cha. The sweetness I remembered of Bun Cha Dac Kim was there, and as such was better balanced than the slightly too salty version I had the first time I dined at Little Lang Nuong (though every other time I've been in to Little Lang Nuong, the balance has been spot on).

When you work in the CBD you are always on the hunt for good coffee and quick lunches. On the west end of town in particular there are less places to go, however this has been steadily improving in recent years. One of the newer venues is Mama Trans on Milligan st, and you’ll find Boss Mama as an inconspicuous little window with counter and coffee machine just inside their doors. For those familiar with Mount Lawley, this is another spinoff of Bossman, a little coffee and light eats venue in an arcade on Beaufort st. Boss Mama are quick building a reputation for their $12 Banh Mi and coffee deal, and there’s often disappointment in the mid day rush when they’ve already sold out their counters worth. If you’ve missed the memo, Banh Mi is one of the hotter food trends right now. It’s a French-Vietnamese fusion baguette filled with ingredients like pork, coriander, chilli, fish sauce, pickled veggies and pate. Banh Mi is a sandwich, but it’s not like any other sandwich you’ve tried before.
The Pavarotti
We thought we would see what the ever popular Mama Tran was offering....If the bánh mì were made to order with a nicely warmed bun, we might have a bánh mì to rival the others in town. Sadly, this is not the case. While the pork is worth coming back for, here at the Pavarotti...

I came back to Mama Tran on Milligan Street to try some of their other dishes. And I’m glad I did. The Mi Kho was delicious! The dry egg noodles were served with braised pork, pork mince and amazing fried prawns. I recommend visiting for lunch earlier in the week when it doesn’t seem as busy. And save up your pennies because my dish cost $13.50! 36-40 Milligan Street, Perth Share this: Twitter Facebook Google +1 Like this: Like Loading... I could not decide what to eat with so many choices, but decided on the crispy prawn and pork rice noodles. It was very yummy. Definitely one of my fave Vietnamese restaurants around in Perth now. Sadly, it only operates on weekdays and only during office hours mostly. Having to travel into the city for it will be worth it but I really do wish I work in the city so it is so much easier for me to grab lunch there! Just blogging about it now... I want to go grab a roll or something now! For sure, worth battling the traffic and crowd for.

With a name like Mama Tran’s it was inevitable that I would be visiting this establishment. Mama Tran’s is a Vietnamese restaurant that caters for the working lunch crowd in the city. I went with S and J fairly early to avoid the lunch rush. As expected we turned up to a fairly empty shop. We proceeded to the counter to look at the menu and noticed that the workers had shirts that said “Come to Mama” on them which I thought was pretty cool.
Until two weeks ago, there was a pho-shaped hole in the CBD’s lunchtime dining scene. Who had the time or energy to make the trek over to Northbridge for a proper bowl of Vietnamese soup? Instead, the lunch-break foragers settled with subpar fast food from dodgy takeaway joints – all the while, unable to quell the unmistakable aching for pho. Even if there weren’t a void to be filled, newbie Mama Tran was destined for success for the simple reason that it’s owned by the Tran family. That’s right – the same Trans who own the iconic Asian groceries in Northbridge, Leederville and Mt Lawley. In fact, the Trans’ Newcastle street warehouse alone receives 10 containers a month from overseas, making it one of Perth’s largest Asian food specialists. Like the grocery stores, Mama Tran is a family affair. Grandma can be seen scooping noodles into bowls, aunts and uncles sweat in the kitchen and grandson Jonny – who’s in charge, by the looks of it – greets the bevy of lunchtime customers as if th

Likes: large portions, cheap prices, super speedy service. Value for money: great. Overall: one of my favourite lunch spots near QV1

Thanks to my friend Neha for the introduction to Mama Tran. She works nearby in the Woodside building so this is a two minute walk for lunch and thankfully has great vegetarian options for her. This was a perfect option for my fragile post-wisdom teeth surgery state. Okay I know I have dragged this out, I promise this is the last time I mention it. Neha recommended I get a soup to avoid the crunchy vegetables so I ordered the Pho Ga – rice noodle soup with chicken. It was quite a simple dish with generous amounts of chicken and rice noodles. In between preparing the apartment for arriving guests we stopped in at the Vietnamese eatery, Mama Tran on Milligan Street in Perth’s CBD. Thirty minutes before closing time on a Friday evening Mama Tran was full. We walked up to the counter, left our orders and took a seat at the window. Mama Tran started out as a small store on Palmerston Street in Perth by Khuu Thi Gioi. The story behind Mrs Tran and her journey from home land Vietnam is worth a read on the Mama Tran website . The vietnamese baguette was beautifully crisp on the outside and soft inside, it also had been warmed up. The fillings consisted of sliced pork, carrot, chilli, cucumber and chopped coriander. Banh Mi Thit ($8.00) The Bun Cha Gio Bo Nuong was a bowl of rice noodles, beef and a couple of very tasty spring rolls. Bun Cha Gio Bo Nuong ($13.50) I’ll be honest I do not know a great deal about vietnamese cuisine however both of our meals at Mama Tran was deliciously satisfying. We will definitely be returning and perhaps with a bit more time to spare. I love looking at the shiny bikes in the Specialized store on Milligan Street but on this occasion I was distracted by the buzz inside the newly opened Vietnamese kitchen, Mama Tran. Mama Tran is a vibrant place, busy with city suits clutching steaming bowls of Vietnamese Pho. I’m a huge fan of Pho, so I joined the lunch queue stretching half the length of the store. Don’t be put off by the queue at Mama Tran because this place serves their noodles doubly quick! After a brief wait I collected my own bowl of steaming Pho Tai, a rice noodle soup with rare beef. I like my Pho Tai garnished with lots of fresh mint and a squeeze of lemon. Plentiful proportions of popular side garnishes are available in the restaurant’s self service areas to add to your dish. Pho is a popular street food in Vietnam and is associated with the city of Hanoi. I tried my first bowl of Pho at a street stall in Hanoi and ate it obsessively during my trip to Vietnam. The Pho at Mama Tran meets my Hanoi benchmark. T

This is a place that i have been pretty excited about for a while. It all started when i was on my holiday in Singapore, I was checking out my twitter to see what was going on in Perth while i was overseas and i saw a lot of people talking about a particular place in Perth called mama trans. So i asked google for advice and it mentioned that it was a new noodle place that has opened up less than a 5 minute walk from my work! This could be interesting. This is actually my second time to mama tran, the first time i went i was so impressed that i called my noodle partner in crime P and mentioned that we have to try out this new noodle place. As we enter the cafe we are greeted with a sea of people. Word of mouth has definitely gotten around as this cafe was packed! I stand there for a moment as the smell of garlic, lemongrass and fish sauce wafts over the cafe as i hear lots of people talking loudly and having a great time. This was another indicator that i was going to enjoy a fantastic

Mama Tran’s décor is ultra modern and it’s a combination of a Vietnamese restaurant and Asian grocer. I was tempted to buy grapes & coconut juice to take home but had to keep moving with the lunch line – it had looked like everyone in the city had caught onto the Mama Tran.
