Review Il Ciao Ristorante Pizzeria - Perth

Always a great family experience. Delicious

My favourite Italian restaurant. The Wood fired garlic bread is so good and the scotch fillet with pepper sauce is hands down the best I've ever had. I took some Italian friends there last night and they agreed with me the food and drinks are the best in town. The staff are always helpful and friendly. Every time I've been to il Ciao it's always full so you know it's always a good sign when you see that. I'll be back again next week. 😊

Excellent food and service. Will definitely be going there again soon!

Came here on a busy Saturday night and they found us a seat within 5 minutes of being there. Pizza was great! Not too oily and had good flavour. Staff were friendly and attentive throughout the night. Good experience and will come back again

Great friendly competent service. Well cooked authentic pasta and pizza. Very busy but worth the wait for a table if necessary. Bookings for 8 or more only.

I have gone past this place far too many times to have never been here. I'm disappointed in myself for not having tried this place sooner. Came here after a gym session with my mate and we both wanted a feast fit for a king. We both got the veal parmagiana with a side of spaghetti bolognaise. This meal was packed just right, the meat was tender and the cheese was perfectly melted over it all. The ham was a bit lost, maybe a thicker slice of ham would have helped it stand out a bit more. But the hero being the veal really came through. The pasta too was great paired with this. Next time I come here I will without a doubt be trying a pasta on the menu! Garlic bread was huge too, I was glad we only got two pieces! Would recommend!!

Our all time favourite restaurant which we have visited regularly for over 22 years. The hospitality makes it like visiting family and the food is great.

Literally our favourite restaurant. Visit weekly with family, friends and clients. the boys are always friendly and welcoming and food is always great. Can not recommend highly enough! Highly recommend getting the Adriatico minus Prawns add Chicken.

The spaghetti was overpowering with garlic. Pizza mediocre. Taste wise was a big let down. We didn’t even manage half the meal. On the plus side service was friendly.

Local restaurant haven’t been to in years.<br/>First ordered tasting platter it<br/>Was ok olives were cold and seafood needed garlic to<br/>Lift the platter otherwise nothing unpleasant <br/>Pasta was cooked to perfection but a tiny bit of salt and more<br/>Mushrooms wouldn’t hurt. Large servings which was very great considering price and staff were super pleasant and very helpful and happy staff which made it quite enjoyable. Very much a family restaurant<br/>And with that it is quite loud so if looking for a<br/>Quite evening meal<br/>Not<br/>The place to come but if you want to<br/>Have the full Italian experience then this is the<br/>Place for you

Amazing service and incredible food. Food was out within 20 minutes of ordering and they were extremely accommodating when we requested to adjust our large table to a slightly smaller one. A hidden gem in Applecross! Would highly recommend for any event from dinner date to family birthday!

Been here since my eldest son was just a baby, always had a pleasant service, very friendly and make us feel very welcome. I loooove their chicken caesar salad. I think it's the best I've ever had. The dressing is just really good. Their pasta is delicious and of course I would never miss their chilli mussel. Will always be our fav italian place ❀.

This place had been our go to italian for years for their generous, hearty, family style meals. However on our visit last Saturday night it was obvious portions have been scaled down. For example, the chicken parma must have used the smallest thigh fillet. The free range grilled chicken was also dry, and the side of vegies bland and overcooked. Disappointing given the long wait for a table and for our food to come out.
BigRon
We have been there a number of times over the years. This place is extremely popular and does not take reservations but generally a table opens up in 15mins or so. Firstly I have always had very friendly service here - every time. Food is good but can be a bit inconsistent - sometimes pasta can be fantastic- other times a bit bland. Pizzas are good, mains such as Parma and Steak good to. It's all good - sometimes great. For a casual Italian night out when you don't want to cook this is a go too. Licenced too with decent wines to go with your dinner.

Cosy Italian joint with traditional and tasty dishes. Nothing fancy about this place or the menu but it's all good cooking like Nonna used to make.<br/>We skipped the entrees and went straight for mains... ordered the gnocchi (entree size $19.50) + gluten-free spaghetti polpette (meatballs served with GF pasta, $26 + $2 for the pasta swap). The kid's menu is substantially different from your normal "nuggets and chips" fare (such a nice change) and our little one heartily enjoyed her serve of chicken schnitzel with a small bowl of pasta n sauce on the side.<br/>After such a nice meal it would've been nice to top it off with an Italian dessert but the dessert cabinet was a sad sight esp on a busy Saturday evening. Such a shame.<br/>Il Ciao is an Applecross institution. Yummy food. Friendly and fast service. The recent addition of gluten-free pasta options is a nice touch. Would be really nice to see them extend the GF offerings to the pizza menu and entrees so that coeliacs can enjoy more than just their yummy pasta.<br/>

Average suburban Italian food. Unfortunately the service was so dismissive and rude, it soured the whole evening. As an ex - hospitality worker from my university days, I understand it can be a high pressure and thankless job, but this is no reason to take it out on those who have come to enjoy a night out. Very unimpressed, certainly will not be back.
Magnum
Great little no fuss Italian joint. Must get early to get a table or you will wait. Nothing glamorous about il ciao, but it doesn't pretend to be. The food is fast, hearty and leaves you feeling full!!! The staff can be a bit ditzy but the owners are on point with there service
Noodle
Divine food! The pasta is out of this world đŸ‘ŒđŸŒ and the pizza just reminds me of Italy and the authenticity of real Italian pizza. Worth every penny

Had heard good things about this place so decided to grab some takeaway on our way past. Both got seafood marinara, which consisted on 3 mussels a couple of frozen shrimp and squid with a little fish, and we're pretty sure they actually forgot to add the sauce because it literally tasted like nothing. We ended up adding our own sauce when we got home, but it was definitely the most expensive and disappointing spaghetti we've ever had. Never again.

I went with my wife on a thursday night. We ordered 2 pastas, salad and a bruscetta. Way too much food. My tortellini was very good. Loved the mushroom flavours going through it.<br/><br/>The salad was ok but the lettuce was a tad bitter. Bruscetta was a very large serving.<br/><br/>This is a good alternative to ciao italia.

Was quite impressed with this place, really enjoyed the pasta and service was great. Would definitely go again, although parking was quite difficult to find.

have been looking for a casual Italian restaurant for easy delicious meals, and have finally hit jackpot! the chicken parma is great and as is the pizzas, only downside is it gets very busy & loud!
Food Explorer
Very substandard Italian food and poor services. Ordered a garlic bread, gnocchi, pizza, pasta carbonara and spaghetti marinara. The gnocchi is too salty and the quality of the pizzas and garlic breads is not at all comparable to what you'd usually get in a decent italian restaurant.  The prawns on the spaghetti marinara were NOT cleaned properly.  Not only Its too rubbery & overcooked. They were not deveined and still got their poop sack / black intestine there.
Emily
Nice little Italian restaurant which seems to get very busy, I have noticed at times they have taken the phone off the hook when I have tried to order take away, so when I arrived there to order there was a long line to wait. I understand it must be difficult when it's busy but if you're offering a take away service, I don't think you should remove the phone from the hook as its a little frustrating. Anyway, the food here is OK. There are a couple of lovely dishes but nothing that was a complete stand out for me. Nevertheless, handy for a local Italian meal if you live in the area.
LittleAsianGirl
Great place and great food! Penne Vodka is my favourite here. Chilli mussels are delicious too! Always busy! Make a reservation if you go on a weekend! Definitely be back again for some pasta and chilli mussels.
El
Love this place! The outside area feels so "Italy" and is great when it's a warmish day, plus it's quieter (inside can get super noisy). The staff are lovely and still welcoming at 9pm on a Friday night which makes you feel great rather than rushed and like an inconvenience.<br/>The food comes out so quick and is fantastic! I literally licked my plate clean after scoffing the Scaloppine Ai Funghi! The size of the Veal Parmigiana was crazy!

Arrive 5.30pm on Sunday and walked straight in and was seated, we ordered garlic bread as an entrée with a wine and a Peroni which unfortunately was bottled in Australia rather than the imported version (Little disappointed this happen at an Italian Restaurant). We then ordered our mains from the specials which arrived in good time and all I can say is the food is absolutely fantastic. The disappointing items about the experience tonight was the service, the waitresses must be straight off the street with little to no experience and the fact our garlic bread never arrived.<br/><br/>Even with the poor waitressing, local bottled Peroni and our garlic bread never arriving I will definitely be back for the flavorsome food.

It was a long queue on early Sunday evening. Checked with the friendly staff and they just told us we should have a table soon. While waiting we also served with a small size of tasting pizza, how good is that ! Overall the dishes are quite home made feel and just love it. Just the salami is a bit simple presented and overpriced. The squid was very fresh and cooked very well !

I used to come to Il ciao years ago and jumped on the opportunity to visit again.<br/><br/>I'm sitting at home now with my fiancé wishing we hadn't. <br/><br/>We waited to be seated until a table came free. I always like to hear that! If you're this busy there's got to be some good food here!<br/><br/>Garlic bread was a little soggy but nice. Gnocchi was very average and the basil and tomato sauce is watery and bland. My partner had canaloni which came with the same bloody horrible sauce.<br/><br/>$65. At least the beer was cold. We left two plates full of food and no one batted an eyelid.<br/><br/>Just awful.
Chrissy
Hey what a great place .Its  popular so get there early . Food is great, had the squid , pizza , ravioli gnocchi ,salsiccia .the kids demolished the pasta in 5 sec. The atmosphere was buzzing - Yeh ,it gets  a bit loud as others have commented, but that's what you get  when there's a lot of people in one place having a laugh and a good time.I  wouldn't have it any other way . Have been back several times - this is the first time i'm writing a review. Congrats to the owners they do a great job - well done, keep doing the same thing your doin !!! The locals luv you !!!
Bite Into It
This place gets super busy and they take no reservations. So lucky we came here early and we were seated straight away which is a good thing. <br/>Ordered the chilli mussel and the calzone Abruzzese. Loved the chilli mussels as it is very hard to find a good place that serves this. But I'm disappointed with the calzone. Definately was fresh, bread was soft, super nice but the inside of the calzone was cold. Not hot or anything, cold! The cheese wasn't even melted yet!! If they had cooked this a little longer, would have been a lot better.

Only found this place after not being able to eat at our first preference.<br/><br/>After calling to book a table for 2 was told only bookings for large groups taken we rocked up about 7.15pm (Sat night) and place was packed. Had a 10 minute wait for a table. Any later and the wait would would have been much longer.<br/><br/>The restaurant itself is quite plain, lots of Italian decor but the food was excellent and well worth the effort.<br/><br/>Entree of wood fired Italian sausage and garlic bread was a nice start. For mains we had Scalappine ai Funghi and Gamberi all'Arrabbiata (Chilli garlic prawns). Both dishes were superb.<br/><br/>Atmosphere was nice, staff were very friendly and considering how busy it was our meals were served quite quickly.<br/><br/>Highly recommend Il Ciao for great Italian food.

Pleasant night and felt very comfortable with the kids. Good casual Italian family dining. <br/>The pizza was very nice and the seafood marinara was not bad. <br/>Kids meals were a big hit.
JZ
Amazing pasta! Very very child and family friendly atmosphere. Portions are of good size and quality of food is always on point. Get here early because there is always a line out the door before 7:30 and they take the phone off the hook if you are trying to order take away at night

Worst service ever. Went on a Friday night with a group of friends. Overall the atmosphere was great, but after ordering our meals, the food had not arrived in 50 minutes. We then asked the waiter what the delay was, and he never got back to us. We proceeded to ask the manager, and her reply was that the order never went through...<br/>So, we asked if they could offer us a discount. She said that couldn't be done, and instead the food would be out in 20 minutes.<br/><br/>Overall, a disappointing experience, despite the positive reviews on here. In the end, we left without eating. Funnily enough, I had been to il Ciao a couple of times in previous years. Perhaps it has new management.

Always a hit. We eat at Il Ciao regularly and are never disappointed. We've never had trouble getting a table as we usually eat early having young children. We're always greeted with a smile and colouring activities for the children. The food is always served piping hot and is delicious. We've been to lots of Italian restaurants around the world and Il Ciao is among there with the best of them. The only criticism is that when trying to order takeaway, we often have to ring over and over again to get through. I guess this just shows how busy they are!
Molly Thelaptopassassin
Went for the first time this week despite living nearby, we were pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere, service and food. Everything arrived quickly and the staff were attentive but not pushy or annoying. We'll definitely be back again

Great food...A couple of mates over from Melbourne and 1 st time at this place rate it, a few wines even better

Il Caio is a family favourite of ours. We have been returning to il caio for 10 years and the food is just so consistently great. It’s a great value for money with BYO, huge serving sizes and I love the fact they don’t change the menu so you can count on your favourite dish being there. Simple food - cooked to perfection.<br/>I often have the chilli prawns with steamed rice, you get so many prawns I often can’t finish them! Another family favourite is the scaloppine alla funghi and chicken parmigiana with side of spaghetti. A must try!

I have been frequenting Il Ciao for about 8 years, and I have never had a bad experience there. Even when it was VERY busy, I have never waited longer than 15 minutes for a table of 4. The food is excellent, and the service is top-notch. I highly recommend the tasting plate as a starter, and the Trofie Il Ciao as a main. The owners are also very delightful and welcoming.
Rebecca Caceres
Food was good but cant say the same about the service. We sat down and was not spoken to till they ask for our order. When we got our order we were forgotten about. Didnt get the usual 'Hows everything?' But i did notice they pay attention to their regulars. Which is understable but felt like we were not welcome. The only nice / welcoming person was the lady at the front. Overall good food. But won't be back.

Nice restaurant, ruined experience. As a huge fan of Italian food, and someone who lives in the area, have been to Il Ciao before several times. Generally a nice atmosphere. Food is as good as the next Italian restaurant. Prices are acceptable for what you get. None of these points cause it to stand out, however if you feel like Italian food, it is a convenient place to go and a decent meal.<br/><br/>The service however I must say at my last experience of the place, ruined my night and made me fairly unwilling to return, despite thinking of the place positively prior to this. We arrived on an average weekday night, not particularly busy, a couple of people waiting for tables before us which is fairly expected at dinner time in the area. We were told by the waiter rather hurriedly that it should be around 10 minutes till a table is ready, seems reasonable, all good so far. 5 minutes in, a second waiter tells us that there is a table ready for us and shows us to our seats while he goes off to acquire the necessary to set the table. In this small window of time, the first waiter who had told us that it would be a 10 minute wait, comes over and rudely tells us "I said it would be 10 minutes" and accuses us of trying to cut queue, despite us never having even thought of the idea since we were happy with a 10 minute wait. We assured him we had been shown to our table by another waiter and proceeded to spot said waiter and when we were unable to find him in the immediate vicinity, were accused of lying by this waiter and told to go back and line up. We were eventually shown to a table and the misunderstanding cleared up however with a severe (in my opinion) lack of an apology given the circumstances. As an ex-hospitality worker, I understand the pressures and stressors of such an environment when it is busy. However, as aforementioned, this was a fairly quiet, weeknight and I would have expected better from a restaurant offering such a level of dining.<br/><br/>I do not wish to slight the reasonable prices, food and atmosphere that Il Ciao has by any means, however given I would not consider any of these aspects of the restaurant outstanding by any means, this incident has greatly marred my opinion on this place. Despite it's apparent success, Il Ciao would be well-served training it's staff in matters of polite service and not jumping to conclusions or aggressive behaviour. However all in all, not a bad restaurant. I just will not be returning in future unfortunately.
Parolopar
Disappointing. We got a table quickly and the service was very good from the staff. The gnocchi was very average, certainly not a well made Italian dish with it's gluggy texture and no where near what I have had elsewhere. My wife's cannelloni was too salty, but I think better than the very poor gnocchi. Desert was fine as was the coffee's and the garlic bread.<br/>May need to check other dishes and how they are made, but overall this one was disappointing on the night. only a 5 out of 10.
Tintin
Good honest food but please change the menu and specials!. We have had countless meals here since they opened and the food is always the same so you know exactly what you are getting. Service is good and friendly staff. The menu has been pretty much the same since it opened and even the specials don't change so that is one minus for this restaurant. I have asked the owners about this and the response was the patrons like these dishes...fine but at least change the specials otherwise they are no longer specials...just add ons to the menu. Pricing is now getting high for what you get, charge for bread and corkage (it is BYO)
FoodieKitten
Noisy but good classic Italian. Brought my family to dine at Ciao on a weeknight. They were ridiculously busy even though we went before 7pm. After seated down on an outside table (enclosed and well equipped with heaters), we saw the queues started to build up in minutes. We ordered a few pasta dishes, pizzas, chilli mussels and salads to share. All were honest and tasty foods. The only downside I would say comment on would be not using fresh pasta but the sauces were cooked perfectly without overly seasoned. Pizza crusts were thin just how we like it with right amount of toppings. We mopped up everything but still keeping some stomach spaces for desserts. We had the Baci chocolate cake (from the cake fridge), peach gelato and an Italian chilled cake. The chocolate cake was totally to die for. Rich and fluffy and rounded off our dinner with a perfect note. Il Ciao is a classic family-dining Italian place, loud and casual. Prices are in the moderate to high side but would recommend if you are looking for a place which does good in all pizza, pasta and mussels.
Cuex_aja_lagi
Service was bad!. Had to wait for 20 mins to order and we had to come to the counter to ask if we can order. Food was fairly average. Definitely will not return.
Kaitlen Selby
Poor service and the food was fairly average too!

Left hungry!. What a disappointing meal I've had last night at "il ciao"<br/>went in hungry and after a meal of some 8 or 10 grilled calamari rings with garden salad, I've left not satisfied and hungry! :(<br/>Minus $ 31 <br/><br/>will not repeat that experience in a hurry<br/>none of us will<br/>:(

Love it. My all time fav.. I have been coming for 20 years, same awesome food n service. Keep up the good work guys!

This place is really popular with the locals. The atmosphere is great and the staff are friendly. However we ordered the crab linguini special and there was way too much oil in it. It was like oil soup. The Caesar salad was fresh and very good.
Jackie
Been visiting regularly for 15 years. The brothers and their wives know how to make you feel welcome. However menu needs an update adding some healthy options as I have had to change my diet. Won't be visiting as often as can't justify the cost for the fish, which is now all that I can eat. OH not happy. If you can eat pasta and pizza and the best snitzel and garlic bread ever than don't delay.
Chris Booth
Generous portions. This is a hidden treasure and is probably my favourite Italian restaurant south of the river. They serve generous portions and all the meals I've tried have been very flavoursome. The wood-fired oven pizzas are delicious. I would suggest arriving early (5 - 6pm) to avoid waiting.
Liebee And Liebenette
A favourite Perth local. Have been going for years and never disappoints. Favourite is the Trofie Il Ciao, with chilli oil added. Garlic bread is a must. Service always fantastic. Sometimes a wait but worth it. Byo.
Chocco
Wow loved the food. Been going to il ciao for over ten years and the food is always amazing and the brothers always make you feel part if the family<br/><br/>Love the chilli mussels best in Perth <br/><br/>Well done guys

Lovely food

Solid Meal. Had dinner with the bride's family tonight. Food was great. Good value for money. Service just a bit too slow. Waited over an hour for meals which is not normally a big problem, but with 5 kids under 10 in the party of 12, it was getting a bit difficult appeasing the kids especially given they all ordered from the kids menu. Kids menu gave a good range of choice and avoided the horrible nuggets and processed fish options. Even my 10 year old boy food machine was content. It was a bit disappointing that the youngest at the table had to wait until last to get his kids gnocchi. At the end of the day, a lovely meal was had by all and we will undoubtedly be back again soon.
Marcus
Worst Italian Ever!. On my daughters 21st, what a disaster! Long wait for meal, rotten tiny chilli muscles, no bread available (WTF?) other meals served well below average except for one. Told staff and they didn't seem to care, don't go there!
Sales
Bad Italian food!. Don't know what the fuss is about this restaurant. So decided to try it. The serving size is small, compare to the price paid. The pasta all looked and tasted bland. Prawns were like shrimps, only a few small pieces in an expensive pasta. <br/>The veal scallopini was very salty, and small in size too. Very average dishes, overpriced compared to others. Never again.
Jess
Lack of decent vegetarian options. My dish (spinach and ricotta cannelloni) was so SO bland, overpriced and dry, that there is no way I'd be back. There were two vegetarian main-dish options (except for a few pizzas) on the menu which were basically the same tomato-based dish. Just because I'm vegetarian doesn't mean I don't like food! I think it would be good for Il Ciao to update their menu do include a couple of extra vegetarian selections (perhaps one with a creamy sauce, eggplant, blue cheese, sundried tomatoes or even haloumi?) Perhaps they could even consider making their own pasta?<br/><br/>The service was great and it is very family friendly. <br/><br/>This sort of restaurant will be good for some people, but it's just not for me.
Louise
Great family place. Awesome place for a family catch up. While it can get a little loud, the food is great and it has a warm friendly atmosphere. Love the pizza!
Whos Got Time To Cook
Hadnt been to Il Ciao in years, but nothing has changed. Friendly service, excellent food, highly recommend for a family night out.
Dark Angel
Food was ok though way overpriced for the quality offered. Have tried several dishes and nothing really stands out or worth mentioning. I can't complain about the service as it has always been great.
Jk27
Staggering so many people have given bad reviews. It makes me worry about the future of society. Best Italian in WA and at a reasonable price. It gets packed so you need to get there early...as long as you do you'll have a great time
Coco103
Love the owners and the food
Becca G
The food was lovely and the service was good.
Suzanna
My favourite Italian restaurant for over ten years, always serving great tasting food with friendly service!
Otani
Friendly service and rustic Italian meals. We thoroughly enjoyed dinner here recently. We were a party of six but didn’t have dinner reservations on what seemed like a super busy night. We thought to try our luck, and we’re so glad we did. The maütre d’ was incredibly accommodating and helpful. We were seated within 5 minutes. Service throughout the evening was attentive and friendly by various staff members. The food was delicious and hearty home-made Italian cuisine, at reasonable prices. We all loved our meals! Wonderful food, good service and lively ambiance – what a positive dining experience!
Martin
Fantastico. Il Ciao is a fantastic place. It is like part of our family. The staff are so friendly and enthusiastic. Amidst the busy-ness they find the time to make you feel special and welcome. The atmosphere is typically Italian and noisy in a wonderful way and the food is excellent. My favourite place.
Georgia Clay
YUM. Absolutely delicious! Love this place
Shankala
Why bother. Should get the wait/queue list sorted and communicated between staff as my group was ignored while the other late arrivals got a table first. When approached a staff re table priorities there was no apologies, just excuses and trying to defend their position. Well, then what is the point in putting our name down with the lady behind the counter if it is never checked! Average over priced Italian food with the ridiculous long wait. I will happily go elsewhere.
Lara
Busy place. Had to wait 25min for a table when told it would only take 5. Food average and expensive!
LAndo
Not bad. Not authentic italian cuisine - expect lots of cheese, sauce, etc to cater for the western palate... However, cosy albeit at times overcrowded and the warm, friendly service and hearty meals keeps me coming back...
Fiona
Delicious food, perfect portions and quick service. My friend and I visited Il Ciao two weeks back and had a lovely meal. The restaurant was packed and we were a bit worried as we had very limited time as we had an appointment in an hours time. We made the staff aware we were short on time and we would just have a main dish each. The staff were very good to take our order very quickly. Our meals were promptly served to us after only waiting 20 minutes. The young waiter was very mannerly and polite. Very reasonably priced meals - my friend had Penne Alla Vodka while I had Spaghetti Adriatico. Would definitely recommend and I will be back.
Lara
Had dinner last night at Il Ciao with some friends. have been going there for years. food is always good. service is no better or worse than anywhere else. had pizzas and pastas. large and tasty. busy restaurant, very noisy, had to wait to get a table but is worth it. go there if you just want some good pizza and pasta.
Flavorflav
Had high hopes for this place when I saw the queue but it was just a total letdown. Waited over an hour for food despite being one the first tables in, we saw people who had come in a while after us eating dessert before we had even received our mains. The coffee was burnt and just tasted awful, couldn't manage more than a couple of sips. Despite a huge wood fire pizza oven that looked like it was meant for some serious business, the pizza was very average. $37 for a small piece of fish, despite being tasty, is an absolute crime. Lasagna was also very average and quite bland. Service was mediocre at best and after asking twice if we could have the bill sent to the table or if we should go up to the counter to pay (which we were more than happy to do) we were initially told "yeah sure". When the bill eventually came 10 or so minutes later we got "umm could you actually go up to the counter to pay". Doesn't leave a good impression on leaving. Won't be in a hurry to return to this place again. The queue is inexplicable.
Eatwithhendri
Staffs were not attentive and not worth to wait for almost one hour!!! It is ridiculous!
MG77
The food makes the wait in line worthwhile. Yep, even if you know Sar and David, chances are you still have to line up, usually a 15 minute wait, to get seated, but it's well worth it, and the wait is long forgotten after the first bite.<br/><br/>Choose from spaghetti & meatballs, veal, or pizza, and you won't be left disappointed. The food, atmosphere and service are all top notch, and the prices are more than fair<br/><br/>We are regulars as are 75% of the people there, which attests to the quality!
Christine Nitsche
We have been buying our Pizza's here for years. The most authentic delicious pizzas ever, but lately the quality has gone down hill tremendously. I called them and they said that they have a new cook. Sadly we don't buy pizzas there anymore, they were burnt and very thin without much topping :(
Vic
My wife's family insist on eating here, but each time we go it gets worse.<br/>$37 for a piece of fish and a "garden salad" that consisted of a bowl of lettuce, 1/4 of tomato, 1 slice of cucumber and a few carrot shavings!.For a suburban restaurant , that is a rip off.
Endlessmastication
DELICIOUS. Always fresh. yummy pizza and pasta. Never disappointing.
Deepside
We have been here a few times in the past but never again. The service was very poor tonight. Arrived and was seated promptly - given water and menus. Once we had decided what we wanted, we were unable to get the attention of anyone to take the order for a good 10 minutes. Entree came out promptly - but from then on we were ignored. Waited 55 minutes before the mains came out, and they had totally forgot about our drinks which we had ordered from the beginning. Plates were removed from mains and no further menu for dessert or anything. Food was average at best and some of the worst service I've ever had. Very very disappointing.
Justin
. This place is packed every night, and there's a very good reason. The best traditional Italian in Perth. I used to live down the road. I now drive 35 mins for take away. It's more than worth it
Little Harry
Good old family favourite. Never disappoints, local favorite with great staff and owners who are passionate for what they do! The food is quality and great value! Yum can't wait to return
Naomi Ng
Great service! However the portions are way too big (even entree portions) and the food was pretty ordinary. <br/>The restaurant is always busy so it is quite difficult to converse.<br/>A lively restaurant, however not my style of dining.
Luvie Duvie
They are always busy. I went there a couple of times before opted to leave because of the long wait line. Third time lucky we got a table after 15mins wait. Great italian food. Price wise .. After seeing what Ciao Italia charges for a plate of pasta, I guess I am used to paying more to eat Italians in Perth.
Jason Tay
When we arrived, we were told 5mins to get a table. Ended up waiting half hour. That's ok, it was a busy night. Ended up waiting more than half hour for our food.. But thinking the hour long wait would make the food taste better.. Everyone on our table was severely disappointed. 4 pastas and a pizza later.. Everyone vowed never to come back again. No amount of salt or pepper could rescue the spaghetti, fettuccini or tortellini.. <br/><br/>Never coming back again.<br/>1) ciao Italia<br/>2) spaghi<br/>3) don't eat anything else ...

Dismal. Opted to try il ciao last night as Spaghi was closed. The place was busy and had a cosy vibe - service was promt but the two wait staff who served us didn't speak very good english. <br/><br/>My friend ordered gluten free gnocchi in napoli sauce. She was told they only had gf penne so she said would have regular gnocchi. What she got was gf penne in a plain tomato sauce with little flavour. I had the penne alla vodka which was really mediocre too. Just pasta coated in a tasteless cream sauce with a few bits of bacon - nothing special at all. Simplicity is definitely the key here - no herbs, no garlic, no onion, NO FLAVOUR.<br/>Even the garlic bread lacked flavour.<br/><br/>We tried to speak to the waitstaff and manager to rectify the order but the waiter got agressive and insisted he did not make a mistake. Flagged down another waitress, explained the problem but she didnt speak very good english either. When we went to pay our bill we explained the mistake to the manager and the manager had the audacity to try to charge us extra for the gluten free pasta even though they stuffed up our order in the first place. in the end she took off $2. WOAH. So we were charged $20.50 for gf penne in tomato sauce which was more like an overpriced boring kids meal.<br/><br/>Wont return, even Pasta Cup is better.<br/>Not sure why they're so busy and get away serving such mediocre food<br/>Less is not more, in this case.

Disappointing. We rang ahead and asked if my dietary requirement could be catered for (vegan), as if not I planned to eat beforehand so I could still attend my partner's family dinner. The woman on the phone said absolutely, without any hesitation.<br/><br/>When I arrived, I was asked if I could eat pasta. I said well yes, provided there's no egg in it, which I assumed was standard in house-made pasta. The waitress assured me there was no egg in their gnocchi, and I asked her repeatedly if she was sure, because it usually contains egg, and she said it had no egg. I said that sounded great then.<br/><br/>Waitress came rushing back a few minutes later to tell me the gnocchi had egg in it. No kidding... it's gnocchi.<br/><br/>She suggested for my dinner I have... wait for it.... pizza bread with a bit of tomato sliced on top.<br/>I told her not to worry about it. If I'm dining out and paying a reasonable sum, I'm sure as hell not getting pizza bread for dinner.<br/><br/>They eventually found me a small bowl of minestrone. It was better than nothing, because at least I wasn't the odd one out at the table not eating, but I still had to go and get something else from the supermarket when we left the restaurant.<br/><br/>I don't mind if a restaurant can't do vegan. I really don't. I honestly didn't expect them to be able to based on their menu, but the woman on the phone seemed to confident that they could accommodate me, so I trusted her and arrived rather excited to see what they had in mind.<br/><br/>If you can't accommodate a dietary requirement, don't say you can. I would have just eaten before going. <br/>So disappointing. Would not go again.

Simple Italian meals at an Four star price, could have done better but ok. Service excellent, a bit noisy but nice.

Very busy, a little pricey, but great service, friendly atmosphere and the food came out timely, large and very tasty. Nothing super special, but would definitely eat again. Thanks.

Food ok, but a little pricey. This was a very last minute (but early) drop in for us on a Sunday night. Our two girls were quite tired so we had to be in and out very quick. The girls shared the kid's gnocchi, the man of the house had the calzone (very big) and I had the calamari. The gnocchi was good (but a small serve for $13). The bread was stale, but maybe this is how it is meant to be? My calamari was good but they gave me the wrong calamari dish (gave me the more expensive one). Good atmosphere for kids and families but a touch pricey.

Great food and great service. Rob and Libby have arrived at the correct formula with this popular Italian trattoria style establishment. The food is honest and just like Mamma would cook and the staff all attentive and friendly. <br/><br/>A favorite.
LittleMiss
Bit overrated and overpriced. The night I went there was a crazy long line outside but the pastas I had was very average and creamy sauce was not rich enough. Ciao Italia is so much tastier and value for money.

Just the same time after time. Keep on going back and see lots of others who do the same. Good value fast service and it's just good Italian tucker. If you want to be amongst a happy crew who seem to do what they are good at give them a shot.

Wog boy likes his pasta. Been there once for lunch and twice for dinner, I thought the food was excellent for what was charged, pastas, meat dishes and pizzas are what i tried and all were good enough to want me to go back there again. <br/><br/>Service was poor by one individual, but this shouldnt be a reflection on the rest of the staff as they are very kind and helpful

Homestyle Italian, ok. I ordered the veal scallopine while out with friends. Absolutely loved my meal. Did not realise the restaurant was byo only and not licensed at all, which was disappointing, but then again, I should have done my research beforehand. I don't think this restaurant has great atmosphere and probably needs a bit of a reno inside. If I went back I would like to dine alfresco. My friend ordered the gnocchi napoletana, because she prefers not to eat meat, but when it came out it had a bolognese sauce. She queried the young waiter who assured her it was not meat, but tomato-based sauce, when we could all clearly see the mince! She asked him again (very politely) if he could check, and he left and never came back, avoided our table like the plague!!! The front of house waitress apologized profusely at the end of the night and refunded her meal, and we all had a bit of a laugh about it. Everyone else enjoyed their meals - spaghetti marinara, steak and tortellini. The food is very tasty and homestyle Italian, but I have a few other favourite restaurants that have food that equals Il Ciao, but with better atmosphere, so I probably wouldn't go back here.

My husband and I had our first il ciao experience after much recommendation ...one word impressed. ! Great staff great food :)
Honest Opinions
We come to Il Ciao often and love the fact that every dish we order is always the same and as tasty as our previous visit. The feel of this place is buzzy, friendly, welcoming but loud. The owners are excellent in customer service and if you are waiting a bit longer than normal for a table out comes free pizza slices to enjoy! Best to get there at 6 for early dinner or wait until 7.45.

Happy to go back. Second time we have gone here, good food and lovely staff. Make sure you have dessert!! The only negative is it is really loud in there!!

Very good spaghetti and pizza. The service just ok. Don't forget to order their spaghetti if you visit here. One of the best!!!

Parma (veal) was excellent, tender++, tasty and a good size. Def recommend. The pizza was gd too. Very busy restaurant.

Worth the wait.. Il Ciao gets busy quickly on a Saturday night. But don't despair as the queue moves just as quickly! You can hear the bustle from this restaurant from the carpark and you are greeted by an unpretentious decor as you slide through the entrance. <br/>After a short wait we were shown our table. Unfortunately after several minutes we were asked to move tables for a larger group. For the trouble of moving to the next table we were given a free tasting plate for starters! The tasting plate was quite good and the mains of pasta marinara and lasagna were fantastic. Just remember the premises are BYO only so don't forget the red!! These guys are big on friendliness and customer satisfaction. What can I say but the classic cliche of "great food, great atmosphere and great food!!
Rider
Perfect combination of great food, great service and reasonable prices. Can be busy but friendly staff make your wait worth it. I'd love to sample more of the menu but can't get enough of my favorite pasta and gnocchi dishes.

Takeaway just as great. We've dined in a few times but a sick child meant we had to get takeaway on this occasion. The place was jam packed! Still got our meals, beautifully packed within 25 minutes. Service with a friendly smile, great food and value for money.

Great - Regular Customer. Always busy (for good reason), but you never have to wait for long. Great pizza, pasta, and seafood. Delish! BYO.
Urbaneaters
One of our favorite haunts, this welcoming and bustling little restaurant never fails to deliver. BYO is a bonus, the food is always fantastic, the staff always on top of their game, only shame is that you can't book, so get there early, especially on Fridays.
Jake
Great place. This is one of my favorite Italian restaurants; the service is prompt and friendly. As for the food I never get sick of it, the standards are always high and the atmosphere is great. All in all very satisfied.
Uncle Jesse
Not what it used to be. I used to dine here 1-2 times a week 5-6 years ago when the food was good but sadly the standard have been dropping and dropping. Now the food is very ordinary and not even worth going to unless youre desperate.

Girlsnightsout. Love love love this place. The owners need to teach every other restaurant in Perth how to treat customers(especially Spaghi's - Il Ciao give you free water and a smile!) . We feel like part of the family going here - great friendly service, yummy italian food with big servings and not expensive at all. Always have fun going here and will keep going back every few weeks. We love to sit in outside area and they don't care if we keep table all night.
Bianchi Boy
Been going here for 12+ years, this is the best Italian hands down, always welcomed like old friends and the food is what we benchmark everyone else by.

Nom nom nom. Having lived in the area for around three years, finding a decent Italian restaurant for a decent price can be hard, especially if your like me and don't have time for cooking a lot of the time. So here is my regular Friday night pasta and pizza place. The lil lady and i roll through here and are never disappointed.

Sydneysider who loves Il Ciao. Excellent food, excellent service & excellent ambience run by a great italian family!<br/>What more does one want when they go to an italian restaurant!

Perfect Again. I love this place for so many resons. First it does not pretend to be anything other than what it is. Simple honest Italian food that is done very well. <br/>The value for money is hard to beat in Perth.<br/>Service is there if when need something but they are much to busy to loiter.<br/>The food is conistanly good using the freshes products available and there is nothing on the normal menu over $30 which hard to beat.<br/>Mkae sure you come early as they don't take reservation unless it is a large group, yet even when at peak time the longest I've waited is 20min. Yes it is worth the wait.<br/>As hospitality pro this is one of the few places I am happy to take people and without fear.

Disappointed. I've been to Il Ciao a few times and was initially impressed with their home cooked style food. The last two times were disappointing, the meals came out at different times (there was only three of us), the previously good minestrone tasted like boiled vegetables with no flavouring added and the lasagne a little rubbery. Pick up your game people - I know you can do better!
Amy
Very Disappointed. Went to Il Ciao on Friday for dinner as my partner had gone a few years ago and said it was the best Italian he had had in Perth. <br/>We couldnt book so knew we were in for a bit of a wait which we were fine with. Unfortunately, although the staff are very friendly and well dressed they couldnt seat people on the order they came with another couple who arrived after us being seated before us, we weren't too worried though as the food was supposed to be worth the wait.<br/>The stone baked garlic bread for starters was a amazing but the main meal was a complete let down. The pasta wasn't fresh it was overly chewy and the sauce, although it tasted fine was runny. The calzone base was burnt and was no better, probably worse than the pizza we get at our local pub.<br/>My partner was very disappointed and I don't think we will be going back
Deb
Great food, friendly staff, great value. 1st time to Il Ciao tonight. Very busy, full of happy cutomers but we were seated promptly. Staff very friendly and attentive. Good knowledge of menu and made good recommendations. Food was fantastic. Best Italian I've had in quite a while. Husband;s steak cooked perfectly, my spiral chicken pasta full of tasty chicken, mushrooms, snowpeas and cream sause. Save room for dessert, worth it. We had lemon cheesecake and strawberry gelato - big serves not just decorations on a plate. Good value $70 for 2 and we left full, happy and smiling. Will be going back soon

We really on go for the House Speciality, Trofi Il Ciao, it's fantastic. Other items are just as good. Be prepared to line up for a while, no bookings taken.

A family favourite! Noisy and bustling in the evening with good honest food at a fair price. Staff are particularly helpful.

Cheerful venue. Very cheerful venue, friendly service and a popular place for locals (especially families). Can get noisy. Love the scaloppini. Please put back home made tiramisu on the menu!

Welcome Back for 2010. Just opened again for 2010 and just as tasty as ever.<br/>Very busy but still got our food quickly.<br/>Love the friendly staff who make us feel welcome every time.<br/>Will be back regularly.

Just like mamma makes. The full restaraunt every night speaks for itself!! Try the gnocci with bolognaise sauce ... Your waste line will love it!

Doesn't even rate close in terms of service, food and atmosphere. First of all staff aren't all Italian, food is okay but not on par with other Italian restaurants and thirdly the place is empty, when we went anyway for lunch. It's back to ciao italia for me.
Eatlikeme
Yum!. I havent been to Il Ciao since early this year. They served fast Italian similar to Ciao Italia. They are always busy and food is great.
Sam
Probably the best known Italian restaurant south of Perth and without doubt the best for service and cusine.
Violet Evans
Il Ciao has gone down in standard since last year. I use to enjoy eating here, but it's too over rated for what it is.

While the grilled chicken was not a tender boast, the flavoursome marinade on the grilled chicken skin was deliciously spiced with chilli flakes and with the additional acidity from the lemon, gawd
