Review Belgian Beer Cafe - Perth

This place hosted our social Halloween Party again, and they didn't disappoint! They decorated, they dressed up and they cooperated with us throughout the night. The staff were absolutely amazing and deserve a medal for their hard work!!

First time there nice relaxed venue a few different areas would go back

This place is an institution. It’s been around in the heart of Northbridge since I can remember and was around for years before I ever set foot in it. Live bands plying all the current hits and oldies you love every night. Great drinks and pub grub. If you’re looking for a fun uncomplicated night this is the spot. Ask for Jason he’d love to say hi.

IMO Universal is possibly the best live music late night bars in the city..30+ years on and still as popular as ever. Kudos to the management for hiring attentive, friendly and customer centric bar staff and security. The kicker was listening to quality live music - great band and range of covers. Keep up the great work!
Sebastian Zerniak
Beer is good and excellent service.

Great live venue, and amazing DJ on Saturday night. 🎶🎶

Great live band. Great atmosphere. Needs electric scooter lock racks. But awesome joint.
Matt Clarke
Nice fast service with good food specials each day. Good experience with friendly staff
Karina
Average bar foods and drinks. It's an old establishment that needs an uplift. The verandah <br/>and side street seatings were still very nice though

Came here on a Monday night, not full house but still a lot of people. The service and atmosphere was fantastic. We recommend the pork belly, pork ribs, crispy salmon and chicken parmy. Calamari was done very well but just a little too salty for my liking. The lamb cutlet was well marinated but a bit too charred. The 1kg hickory bbq sauce chicken wings were good.

Loved the fact that they had 2 different mussels pots on offer. Excitedly ordered the tomota and chili base one. The accidently brought out the cream based por but upon notification quickly remedied the situation which was greatly appreciated. Did find the risotto dish quite bland however the roo but cooked to perfection!

Dined here with a friend a few weeks back. Booked through the fork and received 50% off the food which was fantastic. I had the lamb shank which was one of the specials of the day. Enjoyed with a pint of hoegaarden.
Salmon Avocado
Very crowded when we called in for a casual meal after the movies. Despite the busy atmosphere the food came out super fast: s&p calamari, Belgian frites and the pasta of the day. All delicious. Lots of German beers on tap and specials like $15 steaks on Thursdays. The main front room was very hot, no air con only ceiling fans, but out the back and in the separate back bar it was cooler.
I.live.to.eat
came for the frites which is what they used to do best. we got whatever this was. and it was definitely NOT frites! they were thick-cut, soggy, stumpy, and cold. <br/><br/>what a waste of $9. won’t ever be back.

Attended the Belgium Beer Cafe in October 2018. I ordered the 250g Scotch fillet Steak with frites, side salads and a Hoegaarden Beer. The steak was cooked medium rare and the frites were nice and crispy. I will say that they gave me a bit too much salad but thats just my opinion. It is all an added welcome and adds to the fullness of the dish. The Hoegaarden Beer was great tasting and fresh. <br/><br/>Service is great and prices are average for any steak in the CBD. <br/>Added bonus is the ATM machine that sits inside the cafe.
The City Lane
The Belgian Beer Cafe has been a fixture on Perth’s pub scene since the early 2000s and has been a favourite haunt of ours since then. Walk inside and things are pretty much the same as they’ve ever been.

Good atmosphere for an after work bite to eat. Nice variety of beer- ranging from local craft to imports. Enjoyed the platters to share - excellent sausage and bread combos.

Surprisingly tasty food late on a Saturday evening. My friend had the steak sandwich and raved about it too. Service was quick and efficient.
Brad Hames
Well that deteriorated quickly<br/>Frites are gone. Now just bog standard chips<br/>Steak sandwich full of fat & looking grey<br/>Oily fish & chips<br/>& asked for Leffe blond & did not get<br/>What happened? New owners maybe

Worst burger ever. Completely tasteless, except for that taste of really cheap mince meat which has been burned and dried out. Burger included raw onion, some sort of pink relish and was encased in a stale bun. The only reason this review is getting 2.0 is because the staff were friendly and the beer was good.
@Foodieguide_lily
An excellent spot! Very friendly and helpful staff, good prices and cute little tables outside in the sun. My "chicken sandwich" exceeded expectations - loaded with bacon, cheese, salad on rye and a huge pile of hot fluffy chips and even a side dipping sauce. I used my entertainment book without issues at all. The serving was generous, arrived promptly and with a smile - my friend's steak sandwich was equally impressive. Very happy with this spot, definiteky great if you're hungry and a good range of drinks at reasonable prices. They also have some great specials on some days and I felt very welcomed here. I'll definitely be back!

A great pub with local brews and European brews... Didn't try any of the food here, but the beers were good. The staff were okay. There's also outdoor seating in the front of the building, a perfect place to sip your beer on a hot day or a cool night.
Eric Sharp
Steak. Average at best. McDonald's chips. Came out on a wooden board which is fancy. The steak was cooked as well as a $2 piece of meat could be cooked. Decent atmosphere. Come for the beers, after having dinner somewhere else.
Little Aussie Epicurean
Yummy wholesome Belgian food and Belgian beer - have to try the Kriek Cherry Beer. Jb loves the muscles mule marinière (not pictured) and it's one of the few places where you can unashamedly have fries with any meal of the day & they are good! Other standout dishes were the baked Camembert and the croquettes.

I went there for a work function and will never go back. We were initially sitting outside and were asked to go inside to the garden. I was saying goodbye to one of my colleagues when one of the waiters came over and started hurling abuse at me for not yet going with the others. I told him I was only saying goodbye and will join the rest and he became more abusive so I told him off. I was ordered to leave and if I do not comply they will fine me $10,000 - really?     This is not how you treat your customers (who pay your wages). Not going there again!
Renato
This pub is close to being great but falls short. The atmosphere is meh despite the relatively interesting fit-out and the food was good but maybe a bit expensive for what you get. Was enjoyable and pleasant but nothing amazing.

I ordered a scotch fillet and it was only fat, no meat.<br/>I paid $38 and I could not eat. I told the manager and he offered a free drink. I am hungry, not thirsty.<br/>Bad place to eat.

We had lunch here today, unfortunately no cherry beer on tap 😓, but we still enjoyed some tasty wheat beers. I ordered the vege stack, which was very tasty but not healthy as a big part of it is a giant deep-fried potato pattie (flavours were fantastic though!). The service was really good and the outdoor area is lovely and light, but with sun/wind/rain Protection. Ideal really!

Arrived the CBD in a hot summer day ! Looking for something to drink and tapas to eat in the afternoon tea time. Attracted by this Belgian Beer Cafe as we wanted to try different beer for a long time. They also offer some snacks food on the menu (also regular menu food available but we didn't need a steak or full plate of fish and chips at that time !) Thus the beer wings were just right ! We sat outdoor along the street. Light breeze and the beer were just stunning ! Good service during ordering too.
J Smith
The outdoor area is an awesome spot to have a drink that's if you can grab a table. Inside is ok although the beer garden is a bit dingy and last time I went it had an off putting smell. Beer variety is good. Service is casual but efficient. Great place if you're sipping a drink outside, ideal for people watching.

Im sat in the restaurant currently as I write this review. We arrived at 6.20pm and were promptly seated. We ordered drinks and food at the same time and waited 30 minutes for our Stella and sav blanc to come out only to be greeted by a stella and a moscato. This was rectified with the drinks being taken of our bill and a sav blanc coming out. We have currently waited 50 minutes for a steak sandwich and a steak medium rare seriously how long does it take. I am ready to walk out with my wife and get to Dynamo and im sure that will be better than this piss poor effort.

Great music and atmosphere .We were attending a function on a Saturday evening, service was good, and staff were very helpful and shirt wait time. Finger foods were were tasty, and easy to eat.

Perfectly organised and well executed event in a gorgeous room!<br/><br/>I recently organised my sons 21st birthday party to be held at The Belgian Beer Café in their Le Roi Function Room. <br/><br/>From my first enquiry my questions were answered quickly and accurately by Callum the assistant manager, then by Kelsey the bar manager and subsequently by all the other staff members that I spoke with through the organising and finalising of the event.<br/><br/>I am pleased to say that everything went ahead without any hitches and we had an amazing night. The room looked beautiful with the open fire roaring away, candles scattered throughout the room and dimmed lighting throughout which was absolutely perfect for our cocktail event. <br/>The furniture was arranged in such a way that there was seating if required and plenty of room for mingling and dancing too. The nice comfy chesterfield style couches and chair settings offer a stylish difference to most function rooms.<br/><br/>The thing to me that also added a great amount of value is the staff, each and everyone that we dealt with were nothing short of wonderful, they were extremely adaptable and helpful in every way from the managers, to the bar staff and the door men. The managers were happy to offer advice and made it clear that they were very flexible with everything from the room setup to food and they also made sure that the bar staff could make cocktails for anyone that wanted them (even though they are not generally on the menu) <br/>The two bar staff we had on the night (Jono and Alex) were brilliant, working away hard all night they didn’t keep anyone waiting and were also extremely helpful with the setup of projectors, microphones and sound equipment.<br/><br/>The food that we ordered was also lovely, unsure exactly what to order we took the advice of the team and ordered several food platters that came out staggered throughout the evening, we had good feedback from the party goers and was really happy with everything we ordered. <br/><br/>So all up I can highly recommend the Le Roi Function room for your party, incidentally there is no charge for the room hire but rather a requirement to order few platters, which in my opinion was amazing value.<br/><br/>Thanks again to all the team that made my sons 21st a fun and memorable one☺

The beer selection at this place was awesome. The guy at the bar was really nice and helped me decide which one I would enjoy the most. He also gave me a few tastings. The ambiance looks very european. I didnt order any food but will definitely visit the place again.

Walked into this place looking for a pint after a day's work and this did not disappoint. A very European looking place that seems to have strived to maintain its heritage look and serves a range of Belgian beers and wines. We pulled a couple of pints and had some sides. While the beers were perfect, the sides could've been better. Nice evening overall.
Emma
Love the beer selection! Was ecstatic to find one of my favourites (small ale) on tap. Staff are very friendly and know their stuff. After a few pints & a schooner of cheery flavoured beer (delicious), I opted for the steak sandwich and pork belly bites. Not too pricey, good standard pub food :) love the atmosphere will definitely be back.
Ines
Big place, very very very friendly staff members and knowledgeable about beers, brewed their own apparently down in freO. Food looked good but haven't tried it yet and not pricy. Was just really fond of the beers !
El
Meals are pretty big so it's pretty good value, particularly with the Entertainment Book voucher. Food isn't amazing but it's good pub food. The beer options are very interesting but read the prices carefully, I got caught out unfortunately and ended up paying $16.20 for a small bottle of peach flavoured beer :( it was delicious but still...<br/>The restaurant service is odd, a bit abrupt. But the bar staff are good.<br/>Unfortunately sitting out the back in the courtyard which looked really nice wasn't an option for us because the smoke smell was horrible.<br/>
Emma H
Really disappointed in this place, went there on a Wednesday night, wasnt expecting it to be a great atmosphere being Wednesday but as soon as you walked in there was an awful smell, to get served took 10 minutes even though there were only 2 people in front of me.  Place looked really dirty with a sticky floor.  Prices are about average for Perth.  Stayed for one drink then left, would not be going back, needs a good renovation.
Foody
Hard to find any positives for the food here.<br/><br/>Mostly deep fried, highly processed rubbish basically. The Lamb Kofta balls tasted about 2-3 days old, reheated & thrown in the dish, tough & devoid of any flavor. The potatoe salad much the same. The crumbed seafood looked & tasted like to "frozen imported" crap you get from vietnam. The Croquettes where made from highly processed meat also devoid of any flavor. The pocket dogs, was essentially a pencil thin bit of meat, or mutton, (of some sort) drowned in cream & sauce, which i couldnt finish !
The Swine
The Swine expected a lot more from the Belgian Beer Cafe. Looks like a mighty place on Murray St Perth but its delivery was 100% on the limp side - even for bad pub food. The Swine thinks the Parma here was diabolical. Small, tardy, unfresh looking.. and didn't taste great - chips weren't much better..and the salad was a waste of space on the plate. The Swine says come here for a beery beer but dont come here for foody food. Not even burp worthy. Beware!
SunnySideUp
We had lunch here today and unfortunately we were quite disappointed. I ordered the pork belly, my husband had the chicken parmigiana and our daughter had the chicken nuggets and chips. The parmy was just average, the chicken nuggets were rubbery, but the chips were good. My pork belly looked good when it came out, but it was so tough I could hardly cut through it. I had one bite and realised it was inedible. The potatoes on my plate were also undercooked. I returned the dish and ordered snapper. The snapper was great thankfully and it was the saving grace.
Finlay Furey
Food was everything you'd expect from a bar. Service was everything you'd expect from your high school canteen. Waitress coming to my table asking me to tip was refreshing? And after refusing to tip being called the "grinch of Christmas" was even better.
FatCat
On a very muggy mid week evening the courtyard at the back of the Belgian Beer Bar was a nice enough place to catch up with a group for a quiet  beer in a very large glass - just enough of a breeze to make it bearable.  I've never tried the food here (other than fries) so can't comment on the quality.  Bar service was cheerful and prompt.

The old City Hotel of my youth was transformed many years ago into the Belgian Beer Café – serving up a host of Belgian beers – wheats, pales, ambers, saisons – with names such as Stella, Hoegaarden, Leffe, Duvel sitting alongside a small selection of Australian drops – Colonial, Eagle Bay, Stone and Wood.
Izzy Alyce
Alright place to come and drink with a group of friends, can get a bit loud and annoying sometimes though. Drinks are a bit more pricey and you can't dance here
Chihiro
Food was ok but nothing to write about , had chilli mussels and a burger , bit disappointed with the chips , same of the one You can get in mc Donald's and in a Belgian cafe i wanted to have nice chips !<br/>However the beer is amazing ! I love Belgian beer !

good value for money, great service, good food - all you want from a pub meal. it's not amazing food don't get me wrong - but it's good pub food in the middle of the city. Love the interior, the menu and the service. Went in last week to get a tea and they gave us free scones with cream and jam! the scones weren't amazing but it was nice to feel looked after. great service and very unexpected. they're mussels are delicious. keep it going guys (if you improve the food a bit you could be onto a real winner) :)
SKM
The place is great for a drink, but that's where it ends. Food took too long, then when it arrived the chips were cold and my steak was covered in a sauce that just seemed to be cream. To be fair to the cafe the steak was however cooked very well, but it wasn't enough to warrant a return visit for food.

We were very impressed great location and extensive selection of foreign beer, came in a large group everyone ate and was very happy. Next time we all catch up in the city it will definetly be here
West Aussie Chilli Appreciation
Went here on a Saturday night and the restaurant wasn't busy at all. Girl who served us was really lovely. The food choices are really broad general pub food which is always bad news because the haven't found one avenue and done it well. My husband ordered the ribs and said the sauce was yum but the ribs didn't actually seem cooked in it, just basted after boiling. I ordered the prawn linguini and it was in editable, so much olive oil, a pool of about four table spoons collected when I pushed the pasta to one side. Didn't eat it because I couldn't. We ordered the kids pasta for our daughter and that was the best of all three. Fennel tasting tomato purée with so yum German sausage, huge portion though so we shared between the two of us. Mentioned the pasta when the waitress came after the meal, she said it was noticeably oily and and back to tell us it had been removed from the bill. Good form Belgian.

Just ok. Food was nice, but not what we paid for; the portions were small and obviously using cheap ingredients.<br/>Staff were lovely, but we left hungry.<br/><br/>Just another example of Perth's low standards.

Stopped in for dinner with the missus, beer is expensive but it is everywhere . <br/>I had a steak sarnie which came with fries. It was ok, nice caramelised onions but I am sick of deep fried frozen chips.<br/>Wife's fish and chips was just about average.<br/>Overall, reasonable pub grub at a reasonable price but in no hurry to go back anytime soon

Trash. Would rather eat trash from a trashcan

Disappointing Food & Overpriced. Dined here with three other colleagues and I would not be returning again.<br/><br/>1 - It was difficult to grab a waiter's attention to order food. There was a girl cleaning tables and I knew she saw me wave to her multiple times but did not seem to want to come over.<br/><br/>2 - Hard to grab the staff to get the check.<br/><br/>Now onto the food - Scotch Fillet w/ Fries, Salad, Side of Prawns & Scallops<br/><br/>1 - Fries were almost cold, no better than McDonald fries in terms of quality<br/><br/>2 - Steak was ordered rare but came uneven. Badly seasoned. Parts of it was burnt and wasted bitter. Not enough red win jus, no other choice of sauces.<br/><br/>3 - The prawns and scallops were small and tasted frozen, especially the scallops.<br/><br/>Overall not worth it. Definitely would not recommend.
Foodiefrog
Rude. Yes the food is nice. And they have some lovely beers. It is quite expensive but you can calm yourself by saying its Perth prices. <br/><br/>However some of the staff are the rudest people I have ever encountered working in the service industry. It's almost like they go out of their way to treat you like crap. Last nights waiter had to be asked three times for a jug of water and pretty much threw it on the table. Didn't ask if we wanted desert, tea or coffee. Didn't bother getting the bill when we asked for it. The bar staff were audibly rude-snapping and making snide remarks. I have been a regular over the last three years but enough is enough. I will not be returning.
Becca
Expensive. Was going to have dinner here but ended up just ordering entrees, it was very expensive not only the food but also the beers. The food was very salty and oily, I am glad we moved on to a new place for our main meal.

BIG THUMBS DOWN!!. Without going into the details.... this place is just wrong!! All of it. Not impressed with any of it. Walk on by!!
Tania Lambson
Work on that service!. Great venue and atmosphere, but all means nothing if customer service is rude.

We enjoyed it. Last Saturday we had lunch here. It was quiet when we arrived, but was busy by the time we left. The barman was very cheery and helpful. I loved the cherry beer. I have just read the other reviews but have to say that I really enjoyed my meal. I had the fish and chips and found the fish white and tender. The batter was light and lovely and the french fries were ....french fries! The salad was also very nice and fresh. I thought the portions were good, I ate every bit and have nothing but praise for it, which is lucky because if it lacked something I'd say so. The food arrived pretty quickly. Waitress and other staff all seemed friendly and efficient. My husband had the cajun chicken sandwich which he could not taste the spices, other than that we enjoyed our lunch and will return again.

Worst service ever.... If u are bored with nothing to do and dont mind waiting 45 minutes for a fish n chips and venisen sausages than come. If u need to eat and run...avoid it. Lack of care...lots of staff chatting. ..chefs everywhere..but the wait is just incredible.
Tegan Madson
Had dinner with a work colleague there this week, and have to say the service was terrible. We were seated in a "do what u want fashion" in the "restaurant" and handed menus. 30 minutes later after many eye-contacts made our order was still not taken. As hasn't been there before assumed had to order self and went to bar. The bar staff took 10min to put in 2 entrees and mains, after they hesitated when found out we weren't in the bar area. Entree was quick and serves were huge, could have just had that, but took ages for plates to be cleared. Mains followed shortly and was ok, but surf and turf only had 3 prawns. Best thing was the beer!
The Taste Bud
Great service, food and drinks! Every visit without fail ;)

All the staff are working on their own time so don't expect to be served in a hurry. Also don't want to eat dinner past 8pm because apparently the kitchen don't want your business and shut. So if you order close to this time, as we did, your food will be undercooked and cold because according to the waitress "they just wanna get out of here sorry dude". Don't bother complaining either because the sloppy waitresses do not care. They just want to push you out too so they can get home. Horrible.
Tanni8
Believe the bad reviews, it is terrible. To give you an idea of our experience - We made a booking for lunch at 2pm on a Friday afternoon for approx 20 people. We pre-ordered our meals that morning so as to not overwhelm the kitchen staff too much - majority of what was ordered were steaks cooked med-rare and chicken. We were offered table service for drinks and food. <br/><br/>All of the food came out cold, which made us think that the food was re-heated. We waited 30/40 minutes for the first round of wine to go on the table, and an additional half an hour for TWO beers. We were told to sit back down when we tried to make our orders at the bar, yet were made to wait a long time for drinks. We were sat with our dirty plates for an additional 40/50 minutes after eating, and only were cleared when one of us asked if there was still table service. <br/><br/>All could have been forgiven had the restaurant been busy - the restaurant/bar were practically empty, and the staff were standing around gas-bagging. To top is off, the staff were rude when we interrupted their "social time" to request SERVICE that was offered to us in the first place.<br/><br/>Its only saving grace was the seafood platter that we shared among the group. <br/><br/>Would not recommend.
Steve's A Big Foodie
Great Lunch. After some shopping with the wife we decided to have lunch here.<br/>We had 12 oysters natural and the seafood platter which comes with crusty bread and dip, calamari, crumbed fish, skewered king prawns salad and assorted dipping sauces.<br/>The wait time was about 25 minutes and the oysters were presented on a tray of salt with lemon wedges...very nice, and tasted fresh which was the main thing.<br/>The platter was once again presented nicely and all the food was delicious. We both ordered the Cape Howe Margaret River Chardonnay which matched perfectly with the seafood.<br/>I was very surprised when I saw the rating of this place and other reviews. All I can say is our experience here was a good one and we are likely to return again.

COME ON GUYS HOW HARD IS IT REALLY. Come on guys how hard is it..<br/>Service = Poor as, girls not trained at all.. Kitchen staff useless<br/>Food = worst food I think i have had at any restaurant in Perth a 3 day old pie in a pie warmer would be better.<br/>Drinks = ok but 19 a pint ffs i nearly died when i saw the bill I had 3 and asked for the golden ale silly me should of looked<br/><br/>The 1 dollar oysters where all off.. the second batch they refunded but not the first really disappointing I know they dont make them but come one they stank like off seafood not hard to tell before plating up..<br/><br/>If I get sick tomorrow will be taking this further!!<br/><br/>Such alot of potential but such a let down... my 2.5 yr old girls meal got forgot about and it came out an hour after ours and OVER DONE!! bordering BURNT .. omg it was just bangers and mash and they stuffed it.. we had to feed her icecream so she wouldn't loose it.. everything was really poor this joint needs a new manager and new kitchen staff.. if I owned this place I would ream every one of the staff that seems to be taking the piss...<br/><br/>never again... <br/><br/>owner feel free to message me with an excuse<br/>btaylornz@hotmail.com
Cafe Junkie
Crap and overpriced food. Drinks on the expensive side too.. Was here with some people the other night and ordered the amaretto chicken breast for dinner. The menu description sounded good but when it arrived it was literally a baked chicken breast with skin on served with what appeared to be diced tomatoes from a can mixed with some undercooked onion and could not taste the amaretto at all. Not to mention that it cost about $30 too. I was hoping to have a good experience here but the previous reviews about the lack luster food experiences do seem to be a recurring theme. I would only recommend this place for drinks. But even on that front you can do better elsewhere on the same street.

Stick with the Beer.. I remember reading a newspaper review several years ago about the Belgian Beer Cafe (BBC) and the disappointing food served. Well, not much has changed. First of all, why does every waiter/waitress have a sour face. Did the South Winds sweep into this place and freeze their expressions. Thank God they don't rely on tips because they wouldn't make much. I was also surprised to learn that the "fresh" milk they used for coffees etc, was in fact long life. <br/>I know this place is known for its mussel pots but after eating these in abundance in the Sydney BBC, I decided to venture and try something else on offer. We decided to order a few entrees and sides to share- Spicy Chorizo, Calamari with pickled pumpkin salad and lime and chilli mayonnaise, Warm garlic bread with homemade olive tapenade and a side Roast Summer veg. Ok, the chorizo was so spicy it was inedible but this could of been overcome if it was actually grilled properly opposed to warming it up in the microwave. We left the whole plate, what a waste! Calamari was ok, it wasn't crispy just flaccid but still edible but if you seriously consider the three wafer thin matchstick size pieces of pumpkin a salad, you're kidding yourself! The lime and chilli mayo was inedible, the taste of chilli was overpowering and I doubt there was even lime in it- we left this as well. Warm garlic bread with the olive tapenade was also a disappointment. The olive tapenade was obviously made from Kalamata olives which are really salty so why serve this with a soft, limp piece of garlic bread? Oh, and the roast veg was simply warmed-up roast veg. A disappointing feed all in all and if you're wondering how many people were eating at this place, 3 others. Don't bother with ordering food at this place, stick with the beer.

Partner attended a work dinner here last night and the meat was so rare a good vet could've bought it back to life and the lobster was so overlook it was like eating plastic. Definitely not returning.

Food 2 Run
Mate and I went to the Melb years ago and caught up to have a beer and burger at this 1.. Not a fan $$$$ beer and food. Better to be had and the Melb one so so much better...
IEatFood
Not so great. My partner and I went here Friday night and it wasn't that busy in the restaurant/bar when we first arrived. We were seated and served by friendly staff but our drinks took a while to come out and had mixed feelings about the food.<br/>My partner was pretty unimpressed with his steak and chips, it was over cooked and wasn't worth the amount we paid, the chips looked like they were store bought shoe string fries and but the beef juice it had with it was really tasty though. I ordered the vegetarian ratatouille it was delicious minus the fact that the polenta tasted a bit 'sandy' I'm not sure if that is how the dish was meant to taste as the polenta I have had before has always been a bit smoother but other than that I thoroughly enjoyed it.<br/>Overall we were pretty disappointed considering the prices of the meals/drinks doubt we will be coming back here.

AWESOME FOOD. Best quality food!!! Its a great place to eat and drink out with friends! Service is great with good staff and food is served in a timely manner...<br/>The seafood platter is simply divine...
Kavithewolf
Awesome. Just seeing it, makes your mouth water and makes you wana grab a bite! The food is excellent. Service is top notch! Compared to Jamie Oliver, i prefer Belgian Beer Cafe! These people are humble, simple but great in their job, their food preparation!<br/>Highly recommended people!

Awesome Food. Only a glance on the food at Belgian Beer Cafe make you want to have a bite. The food attracts you instantly and needless to say that the food is completely delicious. I've never eat calamari rings tasting so good. The food there never disappoint me. It is awesome and delicious. And what made is more interesting is that the staff greeted me and my friends with smiles as warm as the food they serve there. I know certainly i'll be returning soon.
Cycloneedilson
AWESOME!. This place is really special. I love the variety and the service. I had a wonderful time. The food taste excellent...much much better than Jamie Oliver resto. (sorry Jamie Oliver)

Don't waste your hard earned money.. Lunch today - $28 dollars of the poorest quality mussels I've seen. With bread or chips. Chose the bread and was served half a turkish bread cut into three. Whoever runs the kitchens has no idea. European food (questionable) at Perth ripoff prices ($10 for half a pint). No wonder the place was empty, and should stay that way. Service was less than average. He forgot the bread but probably couldn't see it on the plate. $5 dollar kids lunch offer, you still wont get any change out of a $120 for a family of four.<br/>One to miss completely, wouldn't recommend it to people I don't like. Any positive reviews about this place will be fake and written by the owners.

We just had lunch and it was very disappointing. My partner had the fish and chips. There was one price of medium sized fish on some unseasoned chips that were cold. I had the $1 oysters. I love oysters and actually couldn't finish them all as they tasted weird like they weren't fresh or something. Overall it was overpriced and poor quality.
Cibo Semplice
Daylight Robbery. Went for a drink with a family friend from overseas. Paid $68 for 4 pints of beer. Will never return at those prices. No justificaiton for this sorry. You'd expect this next to the Galleria in Milano, Arc of Triomph in Paris or Times Square in NY, not in sleepy Perth.
Leslie Lampley
The only have small chilli mussels so they gave me only 2/3 pot of mussels!!!<br/><br/>Come on guys lift your game

DISSAPOINTING - GIVE IT A MISS UNTIL THEY LIFT THEIR ACT. After visiting, and being wowed by, the beer cafe's in Adelaide and Bondi I found Perth's offering overpriced and disappointing. First off the décor is tired, shabby, dated, and in disrepair. The tables and floor were sticky. If you are going to charge top dollar then maintain your establishment in keeping with the clientele that can afford your prices. As we were sitting there a large volume of tourists poked their heads in, took one look and moved on.<br/>The beer was good but why no prices on the beer menu? I soon found out. I had a midi of Stella and a midi of Leffe Blonde - The Leffe Blonde was tasty and went well with the meal but getting charged $16 for two midi's is a bit much.<br/>I ordered the Pork belly ($28) and 'she who must be obeyed' had the steak sandwich ($21.90).<br/>A good chunk of pork belly sitting on top of some mash amid a pool of jus was delivered. The pork belly was overcooked and the crackling was barely crispy. The jus had some flavour and the chilly relish was lost somewhere on the plate - The saving grace was the beer.<br/>The bosses steak sandwich came with fries from a bag. The steak was gristly. Not as bad as the pork belly. Neither were value for money.<br/>After recently visiting 'The Moon & Sixpence', 'The Boheme', 'Jamie's' and 'Bread in Common'; this place has a lot to improve on to bring it up to speed and make it a competitive and attractive venue.<br/>On a good note the staff were helpful and attentive - Mind you there were only about 5 customers dining.

Great food. I had the best mussels in WA. It was a tintin mussels with coconut and lemongrass. LOved it!!!!

Mrs.. We went last night for dinner at Belgian cafe ...! if you fancy a nice beer ...is the best place to go and remarkable service...<br/>BUT .. food was catastrophe. 80% of mussels were empty even not in the pot and so over cooked ,they looked horrible for top price !! the potatoes fries were uneatable, my friends meat were chewy and cold !!!! This place was one of the place for mussels and chips in Perth .Sorry ....will not go back for food any more .

One of the worst group lunch experiences ever. There were around 10 of us and it took 1.5 hours for the first of our food to come out. By the time the last of the meals came out some people had already finished their meals.
Shane Tighe
I would like to say that iv never met such a rude person before in my life as the door man at the Belgian beer cafe . He stoped us as we crossed the road towards the door . He informed us of how he was the senior security supervisor and how he was going to be watching us all night . Talking down to us like children . He also had a lot the say about the Irish in general . I could understand if we were 18 year olds but we are all in our late 20s and were dressed respectable . When we got inside there was about 25 people in there . And this was saturday night . It's a wonder how the place is still open .

What just happened here?. Erm so I go here for a pint of Hoegaarden and as I'm reaching for a $10 note I hear the words "$16.50". As tasty as it is, this is a beer from Belgium, not another galaxy. Is this really what Perth has become? I think I'll hang on to my $20 note next time and walk right past this place.
Liz
The absolute worst dining experience I have ever had in Perth. Service was appalling. Very, very rude staff. Sent out the wrong oysters. I sent them back. Then they sent out the wrong ones again, twice! And at no point did anyone apologize. We also got our food long before we got our drinks. Which isn't to say that the food was quick, just that the drinks took even longer. My ms soup was served so hot that she scalded her whole mouth badly and couldn't eat any of it because of that and her salad was supposed to be vegetarian but actually had bacon in it. Never, ever going here again.
KGS
Not worth it. The "crispy" pork belly was less than average, there was certainly no crispy crackling. My friend's piece was more than half a solid layer of fat.<br/>The beer is good, but pretentiously overpriced - $17 for a pint is ridiculous (and a nasty surprise when the price isn't on the menu...)

For Beer lovers. You don't come here to eat...you come here to drink! Beer, Beer, Beer. Great spot for after work drinks!
David Pille
Great Beer venue. The Belgian beer Café has a great range of beer bottles, the beers on tap are great too, not cheap, but I guess it's what happen when you live In one of the most expensive city in the world, They have Chimay White on Tap!!!<br/>Great list of specials, the food is much better than it used to be! way to go!

Avoid the restaurant ... Slow service. Lamb cutlets severely overlooked.
Amber Murphy
Wow I expected this place to be good. I ordered the surf and turf. My lobster was tiny and looked like it had been cooked 3 times chewy like rubber and tastless. The "scotch" fillet looked like a rump and was so chewy I had to cut it into tiny pieces. Had to ask for a beverage menu. Sat with empty classes for 40mins before we just left.
Greg
Nice beer and great food. Great place to chill on Sunday.
Candice Burden
Beautiful food. I had a crispy skinned salmon which was covered in a sesame crisp coating, served with asparagus, lemon butter sauce, and soft crispy potatoes. It was a good size, actually, I couldn't fit the potatoes in! The drinks originally got lost somewhere on the way to the table but when I told them we had been waiting a while the drinks turned up promptly. Waiters very friendly and accommodating, especially the host that was on on Wednesday night.
Vanessa Collars
Decided to try out this place after being told that there would be a 2 hour wait for Jamie's. My partner and I ordered the garlic bread for starters, followed by steak topped off with belgian waffles. It was accompanied by 2 massive pints of hoegaardens. The food is a little overpriced but the quality isn't too bad. Definitely worth visiting for the drinks :) I recommend sitting in the garden, very quaint indeed!

Company dinner. Organised a dinner for 22 volunteers who work for us. Booked at the Belgian Beer Cafe. Asked for a private room as I wanted the team to enjoy themselves without affecting other patrons. Was assured we would have a private room. In fact we changed the date of the dinner to ensure we could get the room. Confirmed the booking four days prior. On arrival the private room was not. It was just a section of one of the bar areas. <br/><br/>Ordered drinks we were told no orange juice as they had run out. Ordered entrees but had run out of gravlax. Eight of us ordered the waffles for desert but the kitchen only had two serves. <br/><br/>The front of house staff were very apologetic and did their best. They didn't charge for desert. You can often tell a lot about an organisation when they respond to problems. The staff on the night responded well. It was just a shame that this once a year dinner to reward volunteers didn't pan out the way we had hoped.

Enjoy the Pub, avoid the restaurant. I have eaten at this pub twice this week after many years and I was disapointed by the food. Specifically the "Belgian Frites" resemble mcDonalds fries more than the belgian Frites I love. I have lived in Belgium so I am very familiar with and love belgian cuisine. The Frites tasted like frozen fries that were then left in the fryer for too long and became greasy.b I was also disappointed with the mussels and the waffles. The mussels were overcooked into shriveled balls of meat rather than being big and juicy still retaining the size of the shell. The waffles were ok however the fruit of the forest compote it was served with was cold and therefore did not complement the waffle. Overall the service was fantastic (Eva served us last night) and the range of beers wonderful but I will not be returning to enjoy a meal there again.

Went to Jamie's Italian last night but we had to wait 2 hours to get a table so we thought we will try Belgian beer cafe seeing our car was parked out front! Bad idea that was! the food was really bad. We got the sharing plate and chilli mussels. Where do I start? The sharing plate for 2... cost $29 for 3 slices of cold Turkish bread (not 4 but 3) 1 beetroot dip that didn't taste like beetroot at all, 2 small stuffed mushrooms, 1 warm slice of pizza (not 2 but 1) salad of roasted veg with rocket leaves that was drenched in dressing and the veg did not taste roasted at all it was disgusting and 1 small baget with chicken that looked like it went thru a blender, it was so foul I couldn't eat it! I don't know how they could say it was a platter for two when there was not two of everything! I had to cut up the pizza in half to share with my husband! The chilli mussels was ok... Tasted like it was a jar of tomatoes with chillies added to it! It was the worst dining out experience I've ever encounted! Please stay away from this place for food!
Heidi
Great food!!!!. I had the rabbit special the other night. It was simply divine!!!!!
Gem
Had a great meal here on Saturday night. There were 5 of us and every meal was perfect! Service was great and food and beer came to our table in a timely manner.. Great start to out Saturday night!
Timothy C Tulat
Services was bad, we never receive our meal. Ended up going to the moon and sixpence.
Tk
Beer. Ok for a pint poor for a meal , lucky its in the city , the only reason its busy
Scottie
Great pub. Beer is great and the food it also of a high quality. Service could be a bit better at times but over all a great place to eat and drink out
Craig Tighe
I could write a long review BUT simply group of 14 every meal was terrible. One even came with a free bug. If they were charging a quarter of the price it might be okay. Sadly it's overpriced go somewhere else to eat.
Jeff
I completely agree with the majority here. Waitresses were too busy gas bagging than serving clientele. After waiting 20mins for mains, we asked how long more we must wait, only to be told that it is not too far away because the chef if super busy. I looked around to see only 4 other couples dining. Hate to see how they'd cope on a busy night...tragic
MJarv
This the second time I have eaten at Belgian and the second time I have been disappointed. Ordered the Clam Pasta and it was tasteless!
Nesscritic
No!. Its a shame when you go somewhere with a good friend and the whole conversation is a mouth dropper to do with the service. Train your wait staff. If I have to go in twice to try put in the order myself after being missed and forgotten a for a good 35 minutes, to add it was on a lazy saturday day sitting ouside with only 4 other tables.... pppppp-lease! Lady sent me out yet again and said someone would come - thats just plain rude when you are at the till and could have taken our order!<br/>They forgot to charge us for the food we ordered with our drinks - I asked if they were positive they charged me for food (didn't want to wait longer and still not eat)... then an hour later after we had ate she comes down and tell me they hadn't charged me. Bunch of morons and thats putting it as nice as I can.<br/>Chips were luke warm and the mussels were nothing special.
Lyn Battersby
What the heck?. Absolutely the worst service from the staff and management I've ever had to endure. The level of rudeness I encountered during my lunch makes me think the managers really need to be sent on a customer service personal development course. For the amount you pay, you expect to be treated like your custom matters. Epic fail.
Kori Kissell
50-50. Good beer. Bad food. Oysters Kilpatrick weren't worth 2.50 each; very uninspired. Spent a long time looking at the menu trying to find something that appealed and was a reasonable price, which was difficult. Decided to order the garlic prawns with herb baguette and red cabbage salad, and calamari with mayo. The calamari was anemic looking and left a bad taste (like burger rings) in my mouth. The garlic prawns were presented well but they were overdone and the salad (I love salad and red cabbage is my favourite vegetable) was lacking in red cabbage; comprised mostly of white cabbage and absolutely DRENCHED in olive oil. It made my lips shiny! Certainly not worth $35.<br/>Bellvue kriek cherry beer is delicious though and the only beer I have ever enjoyed. Stick to the Belgian Beer Cafe for beer...the food is not worth your coin.
EricaLW
Great place to eat, always get the tasting plate, with cherry lambic. Yum!

Went there for a business dinner with some guests from the US .. After reading the reports on here my expectations were low and as per the reviews the service was a let down it took as a good 15 mins to get the beer menu only for the waitress to fall of the face of the earth she returned a good 20mins later to finally take our orders .. I ordered the rump steak .. I like my steak medium rare but I know from experience to order the rare as it is always slighty over cooked at most restaurants .. The food did take it's time but the beer service got much better after ordering.. Once the meal came I was quiet impressed by the size of the serving the steak was smelling great and looked fabulous ... Best part was it tasted great the steak had a red wine glaze sauce and that was fantastic especially when it coated the ample stack of chips .. It came with a small bowl of coleslaw that was creamy and crunchy ... Over all I really enjoyed my meal .. The wait staff need to be a bit more attentive and also watch the way they address the customers as they do come across as disinterested and rude from time to time .. The food top shelf the service Hrmmm in the end I'll go back again because let's be honest it's the food that is the deal breaker

Beer makes everything better. My first visit to Belgium Beer Café was pleasantly surprising, the second visit...mediocre to say the least! Upon entry the party of 2 was not greeted or acknowledge and had to be self seated, yes I know what your all thinking we should have just gone to KFC instead, especially when the calibre of waiters appeared to have transitioned from there and no working in BBC is not moving up the ladder. Upon seating there was no menu, it had to be pinched from a table that was reserved and fully setup. When the waiter finally notice our table a good 15 minutes later and mind you this was a business lunch so time was of the essence. Drinks and food was ordered at the same time, however drinks arrived 10 minutes later (much too long upon ordering) and food another 10 minutes later, which only left about 20 minutes for the food to be swiftly ingested and don’t forget the huge pint!<br/> <br/>The food is acceptably edible; we ordered fish and chips which is Thursday’s $15 special not much more can be said but if you must know how it tasted in detail then no it was not too oily or dry as I said just edible, quality of fish for freshness is questionable and the present from the chef in the form of a fishbone left in the fish was not a nice gift, especially when I have an abnormal fear of finding bones in my fish, which is why I never eat whole fish EVER! when informing the waiter of this he responded “Oh the fish is suppose to be boneless, we are going to look into this”, helpful wasn't he? Service is poor and staff members lack interest in their jobs. <br/> <br/>The only saving grace is the beer, served in a medium fishbowl!! I’d never go back for the food but gladly for a pint.
Amanda
If you'd like Luke-warm food, over priced menu items and mushy fries head down to Belgian Beer Cafe. Clearly the emphasis is on Beer, not Cafe in its name. While the many imported beers are quite delicious and unique, the menu items were disappointing and not worth the price. The mussels were grossly minuscule and the sauce diluted and salty. The only saving grace of what we ordered was the mashed sweet potato. <br/><br/>Another point would be that we waited for over an hour for our food even though we told that the food would come in 30minutes. The wait staff were polite and friendly but the wait was just too long.<br/><br/>Extremely disappointed for the price we are paying.

Poor. Me and my friend came here for an unplanned meal and was disappointing. Our waitress was rude, miserable and looked like she would rather be any where but working there. We ordered our food and drinks, my friends pint came but my drink didn`t come so had to remind the waitress. The food was overpriced and over cooked, the chips were little fries which were cold and soggy and the steak sandwich was over cooked. Wont be eating here again
ThePoust
Service was horrible. The food was over priced and was of poor quality and taste. My fiancé had the pasta and it tasted like it was burnt. Never eating here again!!!

Good Pub. The belgium is a good pub with great beers on tap, nice food and reasonable service. Prices are fairly consistent with the rest of the places on the same street. Had the Garlic Prawns and the spiced lamb fillet, both of which were very nice.
SneakyReviewer
Service was good, ambiance ok but the meals!!!! Pork belly was 90% fat, we had three kangaroo mains and all of them were a different size, the steaks were on their own with no veg!! C'mon guys, you've got a great location and amazing beer but the chef needs a boot in the backside!! For the price you pay, get the meals right!!! It's not hard!!

Fun times. Belgian Beer Cafe is great for all occasions - a sort of pub, restaurant and alfresco all rolled into one, it has tons of space and is never too noisy in the pub section or too quiet in the restaurant section. We are regulars for dinner on Sunday nights and the portions are always well sized, reasonable prices and good quality ingredients. There is just enough range to choose from off the menu, and staff are always professional and friendly. Try to sit near the windows to get a view of the street to look at people walking by, and order the 'plat belge' with a glass of beer - you won't be disappointed!

50/50. Went to the belgian to grab some food on our way between pubs. it was an odd mix.<br/><br/>we had an undercooked chorizo entre, but suprisingly good steak sandwiches.<br/><br/>and while most of the staff seemed grumpy and fairly unhospitable, our waitress was excellent.<br/><br/>i'm not in a hurry to go back, but i'll check it out again sometime.
Raphaela Harper
Great place. had chilli tiger prawns soo yummy. The second waitress with the tattoos was wondercul. however the asian woman who seated us was very unfriendly .. but thats the only bad thing. good vibe.
Kinder_Ivan
Belgian beer cafe is always too crowded on Friday nights for dinner but if you go on a weeknight its a decent place to eat. I generally order a steak which is always good value and you can't fault their gourmet hamburger or steak sandwich. even better if you can get a window seat in the dining room and relax with a drink and watch the world walk by. definitely one of our regular haunts.
GeoM
A bit noisy, but cheerfully so. Good food and generally good and friendly service.
Sprinklingofspice
An ideal catch up. Was there for a meal and have been there for drinks and to have their fries that comes in a cone - just a relaxed pub with great atmosphere! great for a catch up

Poor service, Bad food. Went on a Saturday night with a group for a birthday party. Mussels were terrible and my husband çouldn't eat his burger even though he was hungry. Manager or whoever she was was very rude. Left earlier than planned and will never return and don't recommend to anyone else. Drinks and food expensive. Worst dinner experience ever.

Went there for Sunday lunch. Food and service was excellent. I and the 2 other people who were with me would have no problems going back again.<br/> <br/><br/>EDIT:. Went back after quiet some time and my original review still stands. The staff and service were fantastic. food and drinks came out very quickly but one part of my meal left me wanting a bit more. Ordered Salt and pepper squid, chorizo, belgium waffles and a coffee. Well cooked and tasty and well priced for what I received with the exception of the waffles. Everything that came with the waffles was great but the waffles themselves were a disappointment. To be honest I really think they were not fresh. I think they were the frozen, supermarket variety. Very bland and none of the crispness you'd expect from something freshly cooked. SO long story short give the waffles a miss. Other than that have at it. You won't be disappointed.

Had diner here on a Saturday night , food was acceptable , service ok but as a Belgian nothing Belgian on the menu!!! This place needs to create an identity . Decide what u wanna be!!!!<br/><br/><br/>-----28 Jan, 2012-----<br/><br/>Came here on a busy saturdaynight for diner and I've got to say bravo. I am a Belgian living in Perth and I ve been to many Belgian beer cafes around oz and this one stands out by far!!! We were served by an extremely friendly, professional new Zealand girl who did everything right and was a real joy!!! We ordered a dozen nat oysters followed by mussels mariniere!!!! Food was awesome dito service!!! Can't wait to be back!!!! Keep up the good work!!!

Absolutely terrible. Went to have dinner at about 6pm on a Saturday night while it was still relatively quiet. There were 3 waiters for approx 6 tables which I would say is a lot. Our waiter refused to make eye contact for the entire night and after about 45mins after we finished our meals I had given up on waiting for her to return and got up to go and find someone who can serve us.<br/><br/>The food was average at best, and the creme brulee was burnt and quite sickening.<br/><br/>If this place was self serve (which it effectively was) and the meal prices more closely resembled what I got on my plate I may consider going back again one day.
Matty Bear
Great pub but sadly not so great when it comes to the food. Meals looks uninspiring and were all overcooked. Service was great tho. Would be an excellent place to go if the food wasn't such a let down.
SQUiD
No complaints. Sitting outside during the middle of the week, we could not complain about the food or the service. Our table was cleared regularly and orders taken promptly for food. <br/><br/>On previous visits, pomme frites were always the choice for a light nibble, however with a decidedly larger appetite this time round, only something more substantial would satisfy. So after thorough perusal of the menu we ordered the risotto - neither over nor undercooked, it was delightful and full of flavour - the perfect stomach liner for an afternoon of beers. Getting peckish again later on, the seafood chowder made for a warming and tasty soup to round off a fantastic day with many a glass of Leffe Blonde.

Complaint. Group of friends and I went to Belgian beer Cafe for drinks and dinner on Saturday night. The friends had been out earlier and had a few drinks, but I came later due to work. The group was not loud and obnoxious or causing any seen. One of the girls went up to ask for a menu (NOT DRINKS) and they told her she had to leave because she had drunk to much. I understand that they have rules and regulations regarding drinking and pubs, however the way in which the manager handled the situations was NOT acceptable. She was highly immature and to young for her position and was extremely arrogant. I was not drunk, as I was not drinking during the day, but the rudeness she showed me was discussing. I would not recommend this pub to anyone until they get new management. next time i would like to be treated with a bit more respect. Not that there will be a next time.
Rebecca
Hard to fault. Excellent beer, excellent food, bit too busy/noisy ideally for my liking, but otherwise I just wish I could afford the prices a bit more often.
Mathew Tinson
Awesome. This place is great!<br/>Went here for lunch and has mussels and oysters. They were delicious!<br/>Had a couple of my favourite belgium beers.<br/>And yes the beers might be more expensive that your average beer but you have to expect this. <br/>Highly recommended, will defiantly be back :)
Marie Labrosciano
Food was lovely.. I had the pork belly- cooked wonderfully and my bf had the veg salad- great flavors, very nice.. Definetly be back.. :-)
John
Expensive!. Food was good, wine list short (but it is a beer cafe, so no surprise), and it was all expensive. $50 for a tasting plate and 3 glasses of wine. Ouch.
Water Babe
Weird. I like my beer cold and served in a glass even colder.
Aaron Sean McCullough
Love it!. Love the selection of beers and service was good, bit pricey but id expect that with all the imported beers
Jacqui Edwards
Great drinks and food. We come here fairly often, as my bfs fave beer is hoegaarden and on mondays they have it cheaper. We went there on friday evening and shared a tasting place and a few drinks. The tasting plate changes regularly, this time we had smoked salmon with a minty salsa verde style sauce, 2 spicy battered prawns, sausages in a creamy mushroom sauce, lamb kofta with yoghurt, turkish bread and a red pepper dip.<br/><br/>I enjoyed all of it, though the salmon was very mild. The sausage in the creamy mushroom sauce ws ok, the sausage had been boiled rather than grilled and the sauce was quite thin, but tasty (it would have benefited from being reduced further). The lamb kofta was nice as was the yoghurt that went with it. Prawns were great, lucky my bf doesnt like them much! the turkish bread wasnt toasted which was a shame, but the dip was really tasty and we had plenty of it.<br/><br/>The beers are great but theres no surprise really. half a litre of stella for $9.50 is a total bargain in anyones book. The Staessen Pear cider is really nice and my drink of choice when I go there :)<br/><br/>The menu is pricey, but the tasting plate ($25) and a serve of chips ($8) fed us nicely. The service was good, and it was really busy but the staff all knew what they were doing and were happy to go out of their way for you.<br/><br/>Definately going back again!
Rochelle
Beer Heaven!. The Belgian Beer Cafe simply is a great place for food and a couple of beers.<br/><br/>Certainly isn't the cheapest place, but everytime I have dined here the quality of the food and service has been through the roof.<br/><br/>Love it!
Glen Bethel
This place might be in the right location, but when paying $17.50 for a beer I can buy for $7.00 in the Pink Poodle on the Gold Coast and the other over priced menu items make this a definite 'no return visit' hangout for me. It seems to be cashing in on a cashed up Perth.
Lisainperth
Fish and chips. Had a decent fish and chips meal, good service on a busy Friday evening. Looking forward to trying the mussels on a future visit.
EggsFlo
7 of us went for my birthday dinner. Arrived at 7pm on a Thursday night and it was quite busy. The girl on the front tried to turn us away immediately and I had to cut her off to tell her we have a booking. She was quite abrubt and looked hassled. The beer was great, as you would expect and I enjoyed the Belgium tasting plate, although there was not enough Turkish bread to go with the amazing carrot and Ginger dip. I had a prawn linguini which was nice but very garlicy, which I don't mind.
Mark Question
Pretty Good. The beer selection can't really be faulted, prices are fair and the barstaff are nice and know their product. Which is especially handy for me, as when I am confronted with too many choices, I tend to just ask staff what they would drink. So far this system hasn't let me down at the Belgian.<br/><br/>Food-wise, it's decent. I'd say it's among the best places to go in the state for mussels, simply because the turnover on the little black shellfish is so high, you're guaranteed a fresher mussel here than just about anywhere else around. The Moules Marinere is a definate winner, although the chilli mussels are probably a better choice for the less adventurous.<br/><br/>I haven't chanced going here on a bust night yet, so I can't confirm or deny horror-stories of long waits and ignorant employees, but whenever I have eaten here service has been perfectly reasonable. Prompt and efficient, if somewhat aloof. But then they aren't paid to be your best friend, as long as you get what you want when you want, can't really complain.
Austin's
Very poor service, seated ourselves, got our own water then ordered ourself at the bar. The fish and chips were very average. Chips would arrive better from the golden arches and the fish was far to oily. A disappointing meal
Eatlikeme
Great beers... Food here is so so... but its a great hangout place after work
Edward Pencil
Sun going down with a beer in one hand and a French fry in the other, heaven.
Nick Hayes
A varied menu that complements the excellent, if somewhat pricey, selection of beers. The chilli mussels are a must-try. Bustling and cheerful atmosphere, ideal for an after-work or pre-show catchup, however frequently let down by indifferent table service in the restaurant.
Hannah Rose Cameron
Beer = good Food = not so much. The (albeit overpriced) beers are consistently good, and there is generally a nice atmosphere. However, the service in the 'restaurant' section is very poor, and last time we tried to dine there we left after 20 minutes of being ignored (we weren't even given a menu).
Tony
Overpriced, slow service. Great beer tho
Spoonmaster
Pretty much what it says on the tin.... Yep it sells Belgium beer, and serves it pretty well, good venue, wait times to get served at the bar can be a pain at peak times.
Thomas The Tank Engine
The reason you go is for the beer, but the food is far from ancillary. Great atmosphere, good location and prompt and curteous service.
Pubreview.com.au
The mussels on the top were room temperature at best and as I worked my way down they did get slightly warmer but not enough to turn my opinion around. They were all cooked though and there was only one unopened mussel in the whole pot. To make it even worse the chips on the side were cold too. The sauce was still as tasty as ever but the whole dish was marred by the lack of heat.

At the Belgium Beer Cafe for a quick snack, frites and 'Belgian Waffles'. All sounded good on the menu but sorely disappointing. I mean those arent belgian waffles. They are regular thin not so yummy ones. Even the frites were abit tasteless and of the frozen-fried kind. Wont be heading back in a hurry! Because they dont come cheap either.
Sir And Mlady Dine Out
My main course was the chargrilled 300gm graziers beef rump served with pomme frittes (chips) and Belgian style slaw and red wine jus. The steak was nicely cooked and the chips were crunchy. The slaw was in a small bowl at the side and was tangy. This was a decent meal - but its hard to do steak and chips badly anyway. This main cost $29.50.
Foodie Cravings
Overall, I had a wonderful time at the Belgian Beer Café and would recommend it for group lunches in the city.
Shaun
There’s plenty to choose from on the menu with a range of price points. I enjoyed my steak sandwich but the bread was a little too toasted for my liking. The portion of gristle along one side of the steak was a little disappointing but the flavours were quite good and so too the chips. Not a bad meal for the price but one can have a tastier meal at other venues. The surrounds are pleasant if you are interested in heading down here.

Belgian Beer Cafe is a popular watering for many Perthians.. The interior is decked out in style of old - the 1800s pubs with wooden floors, high ceiling and in the centre of it all, the bar..I've been here several time to snack on their thin crispy chips with aioli sauce and of course beer. They have a large section of beers from around the world and I especially suggest you try the cherry.. The servings were definitely large..
